Junior sizing notes & guidance.

Many sailing brands make youth or junior specific gear, though each brand uses a slightly different sizing chart and scale for assigning junior sizing. Typically, Gill 'junior specific' gear is available in sizes Junior S, Junior M, and Junior L, which roughly correlates to a Kids 8, Kids 10, and Kids 12. The brands Ronstan, Stohlquist, and WinDesign follow a similar convention. Zhik sizing now includes a fourth size, so their range is Junior S to Junior XL, which correlates to Kids 8 - Kids 14. We understand this can be confusing, so our best advice is to please consult size charts on specific products for more information before making a sizing decision for your junior sailor.

Vi er et familie ejet firma med speciale i rejsearrangering og træskibs sejlads på Middelhavet. Marianne er fra Danmark og Ekrem fra Tyrkiet. Vi har omkring 30 års erfaring i rejsebranchen.

Hos Blue Coast Yachting tilbyder vi den mest afslappende sejlerferie man kan forestille sig. Som gæst om bord på et af de smukke luksus træskibe, kan du opleve en ferie, hvor sol, smuk natur, krystalklart lunt vand, skøn mad, spændende oplevelser og en udstrakt service er i højsædet.

At chartre sit eget skib til en uges eventyrlig ferie med sol og saltvand, er en fantastisk ferieform. Hvad enten I er en familie, venner med børn eller uden børn.

Det er måske lettere, end du tror? Og det er vores overbevisning: endnu skønnere end du havde forventet.

Vi hjælper med forslag til valg af rute, program, menu, arrangering af udflugter eller ferie med særligt tema.

Med udgangspunkt fra Marmaris, er der flere ruter at vælge imellem, herunder er de mest populære ruterner til h.h.v. Fethiye og til Hisarönü. Det er også muligt at sejle fra Marmaris til Bodrum eller omvendt.

Fethiye og Göcek

På den tyrkiske Middelhavs kyst finde nogle af verdens smukkeste indenskærs sejlruter, med udgangspunkt fra enten Fethiye eller Göcek. Fethiye byder i øvrigt på skønne oplevelser med shopping i den gamle bydel.

Livet om bord

Vil du gerne bade i tyrkisblåt vand, som er lunt og roligt, byder den indre skærgård på masser af muligheder. Dette uanset om du vælger området omkring Fethiye og Göcek, eller fra Marmaris og vestpå til Hisarönü bugten. Der er altid en ny betagende udsigt at fortabe sig i, tid til at koble af og komme ned i gear, og så serveres der hele ugen igennem dejlig veltilberedt mad.

De Smukke Træskibe og Skipper

Hos Blue Coast Yachting er der mange skibe at vælge imellem, men Topkapi 3 er vores dronning. Kvalitet og tryghed er vigtige parametre for os. Vi kan garantere, at alle skibe som sejler for os, har papirerne i orden, og alt internationalt lovpligtigt udstyr og faciliteter findes om bord.

Ekrem Dümen er vores chef-skipper, og han er den primære drivkraft bag vores firma. Ekrem har sejlet med gæster på det smukke Middelhav, siden 1986. Han begyndte sin karriere til søs allerede mens han gik i gymnasiet, hvor han i fritiden arbejdede på nogle af fiskeskibene på Sortehavet, tilbragte 2 år i den tyrkiske marine efter studentereksamen, og siden sejlede han med containerskibe fra Hamburg, ind over Biscayen og hele Middelhavet rundt.

Ekrems hjerte banker varmt for de smukke træskibe, og det er her passionen er. Ombygningen af Topkapi 3 har han selv været med inde over hvad design angår. Han kender hele sydvestkysten fra Antalya i syd til Ayvalik i den nordlige del af de Ægæiske hav. Han er gift med Marianne fra Danmark, og de mødtes selvfølgelig ombord på et af skibene, for snart mange år siden. 

Vi glæder os begge til at byde velkommen til skønne oplevelser.

Livet Om Bord

Om bord på et skib med fuld besætning, har du en erfaren skipper til at sejle skibet rundt mellem de smukkeste vige og bugte, en kok som laver den skønneste mad med de friskeste råvarer, en sømand som hjælper med det praktiske, og i nogle tilfælde en værtinde, som taler dansk.

Når du booker et ophold ombord på et skib med full board, er menuen givet på forhånd. Vi kan garantere at maden er rigelig og veltillavet. Men vi er også indstillede på at tilrettelægge en skøn menu sammen med dig, så spørg os gerne om hvad der kan lade sig gøre - vi er vilde med at overraske og fornøje med madglæde.

Derudover er der blot tilbage at nyde sejladsen, det skønne vand, betagende natur, slappe af og hygge sig, vælge til eller fra på tilbudte oplevelser og udflugter, nyde det og lade sig forkæle.

Cruising the Moskva River: A short guide to boat trips in Russia’s capital

There’s hardly a better way to absorb Moscow’s atmosphere than on a ship sailing up and down the Moskva River. While complicated ticketing, loud music and chilling winds might dampen the anticipated fun, this checklist will help you to enjoy the scenic views and not fall into common tourist traps.

How to find the right boat?

There are plenty of boats and selecting the right one might be challenging. The size of the boat should be your main criteria.

Plenty of small boats cruise the Moskva River, and the most vivid one is this yellow Lay’s-branded boat. Everyone who has ever visited Moscow probably has seen it.

This option might leave a passenger disembarking partially deaf as the merciless Russian pop music blasts onboard. A free spirit, however, will find partying on such a vessel to be an unforgettable and authentic experience that’s almost a metaphor for life in modern Russia: too loud, and sometimes too welcoming. Bigger boats offer smoother sailing and tend to attract foreign visitors because of their distinct Soviet aura. Indeed, many of the older vessels must have seen better days. They are still afloat, however, and getting aboard is a unique ‘cultural’ experience. Sometimes the crew might offer lunch or dinner to passengers, but this option must be purchased with the ticket. Here is one such  option  offering dinner for $24 (1,490 rubles).

If you want to travel in style, consider Flotilla Radisson. These large, modern vessels are quite posh, with a cozy restaurant and an attentive crew at your service. Even though the selection of wines and food is modest, these vessels are still much better than other boats.

Surprisingly, the luxurious boats are priced rather modestly, and a single ticket goes for $17-$32 (1,100-2,000 rubles); also expect a reasonable restaurant bill on top.

How to buy tickets?

Women holding photos of ships promise huge discounts to “the young and beautiful,” and give personal invitations for river tours. They sound and look nice, but there’s a small catch: their ticket prices are usually more than those purchased online.

“We bought tickets from street hawkers for 900 rubles each, only to later discover that the other passengers bought their tickets twice as cheap!”  wrote  (in Russian) a disappointed Rostislav on a travel company website.

Nevertheless, buying from street hawkers has one considerable advantage: they personally escort you to the vessel so that you don’t waste time looking for the boat on your own.

Prices start at $13 (800 rubles) for one ride, and for an additional $6.5 (400 rubles) you can purchase an unlimited number of tours on the same boat on any given day.

Flotilla Radisson has official ticket offices at Gorky Park and Hotel Ukraine, but they’re often sold out.

Buying online is an option that might save some cash. Websites such as  this   offer considerable discounts for tickets sold online. On a busy Friday night an online purchase might be the only chance to get a ticket on a Flotilla Radisson boat.

This  website  (in Russian) offers multiple options for short river cruises in and around the city center, including offbeat options such as ‘disco cruises’ and ‘children cruises.’ This other  website  sells tickets online, but doesn’t have an English version. The interface is intuitive, however.

Buying tickets online has its bad points, however. The most common is confusing which pier you should go to and missing your river tour.

“I once bought tickets online to save with the discount that the website offered,” said Igor Shvarkin from Moscow. “The pier was initially marked as ‘Park Kultury,’ but when I arrived it wasn’t easy to find my boat because there were too many there. My guests had to walk a considerable distance before I finally found the vessel that accepted my tickets purchased online,” said the man.

There are two main boarding piers in the city center:  Hotel Ukraine  and  Park Kultury . Always take note of your particular berth when buying tickets online.

Where to sit onboard?

Even on a warm day, the headwind might be chilly for passengers on deck. Make sure you have warm clothes, or that the crew has blankets ready upon request.

The glass-encased hold makes the tour much more comfortable, but not at the expense of having an enjoyable experience.

Getting off the boat requires preparation as well. Ideally, you should be able to disembark on any pier along the way. In reality, passengers never know where the boat’s captain will make the next stop. Street hawkers often tell passengers in advance where they’ll be able to disembark. If you buy tickets online then you’ll have to research it yourself.

There’s a chance that the captain won’t make any stops at all and will take you back to where the tour began, which is the case with Flotilla Radisson. The safest option is to automatically expect that you’ll return to the pier where you started.

Russia-Ukraine war: Moscow rushes to send troops as attack on Kursk tests Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has convened a meeting of his Security Council and his military commanders rushed to send reinforcements as a Ukrainian incursion into Russia’s western Kursk region presented the biggest challenge to the Russian leader since an uprising by Wagner mercenaries in June 2023.

With Russia’s military eager to quash the surprise attack that is now in its fourth day, questions mounted over failures in intelligence and strategy that allowed Ukrainian troops to cross the border and seize what some Russian analysts estimated to be about 260sq km of territory in Kursk – the biggest counterattack on Russian soil since Putin invaded Ukraine.

The attack on Kursk, which is adjacent to Ukraine’s Sumy region, caught Russian defences thinly staffed and seemingly unaware.

“This is a very big blow to the reputation of the Russian authorities, of the military and Putin,” one Russian business executive said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to avoid retribution or prosecution. “Because for two-and-a-half years, there has been minimal damage to Russian territory, apart from the occupied territories [in Ukraine]. It was only drones.

“Now it’s not clear how many victims there have been. There has been some destruction, and it’s clear they are not able to stop it quickly.”

Meanwhile, a Russian strike on a supermarket in Kostiantynivka in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region today killed at least 14 people and injured 37, according to Ukrainian officials. Footage from the site showed billowing plumes of smoke and blood spattered on the ground, as well as substantial damage to surrounding shops, vehicles and buildings.

“Russia will answer for this terror,” Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned on Telegram, as a rescue operation continued.

Russian military bloggers reported fighting under way across Kursk, and some Russian analysts said they feared it could take a long time to take back the territory seized by Ukrainian troops if a full-scale counterattack by Russian reinforcements was delayed for several more days. Ukrainian brigades would have time to dig in at fortified positions, potentially handing Kyiv a powerful bargaining chip in case of future ceasefire or peace negotiations.

A leading member of the Russian Parliament, Andrey Gurulyov, who is a former deputy commander for Russia’s southern military district, condemned the botched response to the incursion. Posting on the Telegram messaging platform, Gurulyov called for the military prosecutor to investigate decisions by commanders to transfer defence forces from the Kursk region ahead of the attack.

Questions were also being raised about the failure to act on what Gurulyov said were intelligence reports of Ukrainian armed forces preparing to attack the region 48 hours before the assault began.

Sergei Markov, a Kremlin-connected political analyst, said there were obvious failures.

“This is a blow because it is clear that the signal came from intelligence to the leadership, but … measures were not taken,” Markov said. “This is a failure of the entire system of intelligence, and since Putin is responsible for this, then it’s clear this is a blow to Putin.”

However, Markov said the situation for Putin could be resolved if Ukraine’s attack is defeated. “People are still hoping this will end in the destruction of the Ukrainian forces,” he said.

Unverified video of the fighting in Kursk and its aftermath showed Ukrainian forces had used donated Western assault vehicles and weapons in the attack, which officials in Washington, Berlin and elsewhere said was appropriate because Kyiv was defending itself.

US weapons on Russian soil ‘crossed another red line’ - Russian academic

A Russian academic close to senior Moscow diplomats warned the use of US weaponry on Russian soil crossed “another red line” that was likely to have serious consequences even as the ultimate gain for Kyiv was unclear.

“This is a step towards further escalation, and of course there are additional risks since we don’t know how Russia is going to react,” the academic said, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters. “But it seems to me, it isn’t something which principally changes the military situation since this is a relatively small operation. It is a PR operation rather than an attempt to really change the situation on the battlefield.”

The academic added the audacious seizure of territory by Ukrainian troops was unlikely to encourage Putin to make compromises.

On Friday, police in Sumy said 270 of the region’s residents had died since the start of Russia’s invasion in February 2022. As they braced for Russian reprisals, the Sumy authorities said they had ordered the evacuation of 20,000 residents and were co-ordinating transport for them.

Ukraine’s bold cross-border incursion followed weeks of an intense summer of fighting in which Russia has made steady gains in Ukraine’s east, putting pressure on Kyiv’s depleted and fatigued forces.

Analysts say the attack may be intended to divert Russian troops from other locations along the front as well as to provide leverage in future negotiations. Some military experts questioned the wisdom of Ukraine’s attack, given its weakness at other key points on the front, and they predicted Russia’s far larger and better-equipped military was likely to oust the Ukrainians sooner than later.

Still, the successful operation on Russian soil – after more than two years of fighting almost exclusively in Ukraine – had psychological value for Kyiv, boosting the morale of Ukrainian troops and civilians by showing Putin and his military as hobbling and ineffective.

Mykhailo Podolyak, a Ukrainian presidential adviser, suggested on Friday that any military actions on the Russian territory could improve Ukraine’s position in future negotiations with Russia to end the war. Podolyak did not comment on the Kursk incursion specifically.

Ukraine tight-lipped about Kursk operation

Ukrainian officials have remained tight-lipped about the operation and Zelenskyy has made only oblique references to it during his nightly speeches, saying Russia “should feel” the ramifications of the war it has inflicted on Ukraine.

Markov said it was likely the Ukrainian government plans to use the seized territory as a bargaining chip in future talks and it was now a race against time for Russian troops to counterattack before the Ukrainian brigades dig in.

The conduct of the war so far has shown “the advantage goes to those defending”, he said. “I think their plan is to take as much territory as possible, and while Russia is collecting its reserves they will build fortifications.”

Even though Russia has greater aviation forces than Ukraine, Moscow’s recent military operations in Kharkiv and Donbas have shown it is difficult to take territory where defences are entrenched. “If they act at the same speed as Russia is attacking elsewhere, it could take a year to take back the Kursk region,” Markov said.

Reports by Russian military bloggers and pro-war Telegram channels suggested Ukrainian troops have occupied more than 20 Russian border villages and part of at least one small city, Sudzha. The head of the city administration in Kurchatov, where Russia’s Kursk nuclear power station is based, said on Friday that Ukrainian troops were nearing the nuclear plant.

Previously, anti-Kremlin armed groups backed by Ukraine have launched several cross-border attacks into Russian territory, but the Kursk operation marked the deepest and most effective incursion yet.

“Ukrainian forces have clearly advanced quite far into Kursk, but how much territory they control or actually intend to control remains unknown,” said Michael Kofman, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.

Footage released Friday by Russia’s Defence Ministry showed a military column transporting artillery and armoured vehicles entering the Kursk region, some 530km south of Moscow. The Defence Ministry reported BM-21 Grad multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) and artillery pieces had been sent to support forces fighting in the Sudzhansky district of the Kursk region.

Russia’s Emergency Situations Ministry declared a state of emergency in Kursk on Friday, as thousands were evacuated. Videos circulating on social media appeared to show lines of cars leaving, while Russian authorities released photos of emergency workers supporting residents. Russia’s Health Ministry said at least 66 people were injured.

Ukrainian forces initially stormed the Kursk region’s Sudzhansky district Tuesday, before advancing deeper into Russian territory as Russian authorities claimed, falsely, they had repelled the attack. On Friday, Russia’s Defence Ministry claimed to have killed 280 Ukrainian troops and destroyed 27 armoured vehicles over the previous 24 hours.

“Units of the North group of forces, along with incoming reserve troops, army aviation strikes and artillery fire, foiled the enemy’s attempts to advance deeper into Russian territory in the Kursk area,” the ministry said.

Footage online appeared to show the aftermath of an attack on an ambushed Russian military column in the Rylsk region, about 32km from the Ukrainian border. Footage showed the bodies of dozens of Russian soldiers in destroyed vehicles. Russian military analysts speculated the column was hit with US-provided HIMARS rockets.

The Washington Post could not independently verify the claims. A man who reportedly filmed the video of the convoy was detained and questioned by Russian authorities, according to Rybar, a Russian military blog with links to the defence ministry.

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, asked by reporters about videos indicating Ukraine using HIMARS in Kursk and whether such use would align with US policy, said there’s “no change in our policies”. He said the administration was in contact with Ukraine about the Kursk operation and would “reserve comment until those conversations are complete”.

Ukraine on Friday said it also had hit Russia’s Lipetsk military airfield, about 350km from the border. Lipetsk’s regional authorities declared a state of emergency, evacuated residents from nearby villages and confirmed there were detonations at an “energy infrastructure facility”. Satellite imagery published by Planet Labs on Friday appeared to show the total obliteration of the airfield.
