Salona S380: First Croatian Electric Sailing Yacht
After months of intense preparations and testing Salona Group has launched the first Croatian sailing yacht with electric propulsion, S380. The yacht has immediately set sail for North America, where her owner awaits. Powered by a 10 kW engine and batteries accumulating up to 30,4 kWh, Salona S380 can muster up 6,26 knots and reach up to 25,5 miles of autonomy.
The deck is covered in solar panels collecting up to 986 W. The solar panels are inserted directly and covered in anti-skid layer that allows them to be walked, in addition to being very decorative. The panels allow the S380 to be charged while moving, when power is transferred by the propeller.
The new Salona boasts impressive performance, which is something her designers, Maurizio Cossutti of Cossutti Yacht Design, and Salona engineers are very proud of: ‘Salona S380 is an excellent showcase of our abilities as a builder, as well as an ambassador of Croatian solar and electric segment, still in its beginnings’, said Marin Donadini, CEO of Salona Group at the sendoff of the lovely Salona S380 on her maiden voyage across the Atlantic.

The Salona 46 - a game changer in the world of sailing
For its world premiere, this beautiful sailboat showcased at the Southampton Boat Show in September 2021. The reviews received were highly positive and we can see why.
The most distinguishing features of the Salona 46 is its unique electric propulsion system with two Oceanvolt electric motors enabling easy close quarter manoeuvring, and the hydro-generation system, putting power back into the battery banks whilst sailing.
Stylish attention to detail, with exquisite teak floors and fittings, is found throughout this magnificent vessel. Salona collaborated with the J&J design team and utilised feedback from their customers raising the standards of avante-garde luxury yacht design. They offer a high level of customisation to suit each owner's unique sailing experience and desires.
World leaders have manufactured the Salona 46's high quality equipment and the functionality and sleek allure of this dynamic model are integrated into a complete whole that matches the superb Salona style just perfectly. All in all this is a perfect yacht to charter providing easy sailing in comfort and style.
What sailors will love about the exterior of this sailboat
It possesses a vast cockpit space sporting twin helms and the latest B&G navigation equipment.
Simply press a switch and an electrically retractable bathing platform makes it easy to plunge into the sea. The ample width of side decks provides a generous walk around space. A foldable table sits in the middle of the cockpit area and powerful winches feed into the cockpit. Deep anchor and fender lockers are positioned in the bow.
Plush marine interiors to recline into
The cabin sports top quality fittings and designer finishes in leather and wood. The interior is airy with abundant light streaming through the rectangular portholes, and handrails run across the entire length of the space.
The galley has a 3-burner stove with a closing top flap, two fridge units and we loved the fold-out dining table seating up to 10 people. A foldaway chart table, control panel and battery monitors and instrumentation are streamlined into their surroundings. High tech sailing at its best!
The 4-cabin layout has two cabins fore and two cabins aft with shared bathrooms. Manual toilets can be used electrically. The 3-cabin layout's forward main cabin has a bathroom en-suite and two big berths aft. Super rectangular portholes on each side of the bed enable you to watch the waves slapping the sides of the boat as you relax.
Cabins are spacious and super comfy with great standing height, snug king-size beds and loads of cupboard space plus storage lockers under the beds. The whole setup has been well thought out with modular units, plenty of plug sockets and fitted with heating.
The future of sailing
Electric motors are absolutely quiet and are set up under each of the aft berths' beds. They need far less maintenance than standard engines. A well-insulated Yanmar engine is positioned under the companionway.
Ultra modern construction techniques using multi-axial glass and carbon fibres, with an internal steel frame supporting the keel and mast, create a strong yet light structure offering the ultimate in sailing performance. The Salona 46 is functional and at the same time attractively elegant.
Yachtsmen chartering the Salona 46 have found it an absolute pleasure to sail. Try it and ease into a new way of sailing.
Salona Yachts - "Supreme sailing satisfaction"
Located on the Eastern Adriatic Coast, 6 kms north of Split , Salona Yachts was founded in 2002. Upholding the Croatian shipbuilding tradition from Ancient times past when Salona (Solin) was the port and coastal stronghold of the Illyrian Delmats, Salona Yachts strive for perfection. The proof is found in the pride of builder and owners, their customer satisfaction, and the many regattas Salona models have won globally.
Salona provides after-sales service on five continents. All boats are built according to Ocean A Category and are certified by DNV-GL. We would urge you to rent this yacht and try it out. You won't be disappointed, in fact it will probably change your future chartering choices.
Review of the Salona 46 sailing yacht
Electric sailing pioneers and influencers, Dan and Kika, who have been sailing around the world on their all-electric sailboat , Uma, for seven years, and Graham Balch of Green Yachts, embarked upon a five-day cruising journey around the islands of Croatia to evaluate the Salona 46.
They sailed in various weather conditions and concluded with favourable reviews quoting the Salona 46 as being the "next generation electric boat" and, with its balanced rudders and twin motors, "it's so smooth and easy to sail and so easy to manoeuvre, it helps people enjoy sailing".
Graham stated that it's rare to find a cruising boat of its size with such remarkable sailing performance and speed. He commented further: "It unties you from the infrastructure that you feel dependant on with other boats. After three or four hours of sailing you've put energy back into the battery bank so it becomes sustainable for living off the grid."

Ukraine reportedly strikes ferry crossing in occupied Crimea, boat in Krasnodar Krai, official says
Editor's note: This is a developing story and is being updated.
Preliminary reports indicate that Ukraine struck a ferry crossing in the city of Kerch in occupied Crimea overnight on Aug. 16, as well as a boat near the community of Chernomorsk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai, Serhii Bratchuk, spokesperson for the Odesa Oblast Military Administration said.
No information was immediately available as to the extent of the damage. It was not immediately clear what boat was struck or whether it was a military target.
Explosions rang out across multiple cities in occupied Crimea overnight on Aug. 16, the Crimean Wind Telegram channel claimed, citing resident reports. A fire was reported near the city of Kerch, in the area of the Kerch ferry crossing.
Residents in Sevastopol, Simferopol, and Kerch heard explosions around 3:30 a.m. local time, according to local media reports.
Multiple explosions were also reported in the community of Chernomorsk in Russia's neighbouring region Krasnodar Krai around 4:30 a.m. local time.
The Kerch bridge , connecting occupied Crimea with mainland Russia, was reportedly closed to traffic around 2 a.m., local residents reported. The bridge reopened around 7 a.m. local time.
Russia's Defense Ministry claimed that five Ukrainian unmanned aerial drones and two unmanned naval drones were destroyed overnight in the Black Sea.
The Kyiv Independent cannot independently verify any of the claims.
Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion, Ukraine has regularly launched attacks on occupied Crimea as well as neighbouring Krasnodar Krai.
Kyiv's Military Intelligence Chief Kyrylo Budanov warned on Aug. 2 that Ukraine is working on a "complex solution" that could destroy the Kerch Bridge in the coming months. Russia reportedly began fortifying the bridge last month.
Ukraine has regularly struck ferry crossings between occupied Crimea and Russia's Krasnodar Krai, prioritizing the crossing over the bridge in recent months as a more important military target.
Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said in an interview with RBC-Ukraine published on June 17 that destroying the Kerch Bridge now would not have the same effect now because Russia barely uses it for military purposes anymore.
The bridge accounts for less than a quarter of the total transiting cargo, and for the rest, Russia uses a ferry crossing in Kerch , Pletenchuk said.

Sailing on the new SALONA 46
Oh, what a joy it was to sail hull #1 of the new Salona S460 in Croatia. Written by Graham Balch from Green Yachts
As a yacht broker, I get to sail a lot of different boats. In general, I find that 30-foot sailboats are easy to handle, but slow. Performance sailboats above 40 feet and most production sailboats above 50 feet go faster, but can be a handful to sail because their sail area is so big and steering can be unwieldy.
Why can’t a sailboat be powerful and easy to handle?
Well, sailing world, I would like you to meet the new Salona S460 – the fast, yet easy to sail 44-foot sailboat.
In recent test sails, the Salona S460 achieved 5 knots of boat speed in 4.5 knots of wind on a beam reach and over 10 knots of boat speed in a 130-degree broad reach with 15-20 knots of wind. That performance is rare in a sub 45-foot cruising boat. Very rare.
At the same time, it’s smooth and easy to sail. Take your hand off the steering wheel and the balanced rudder helps the S460 stay on course for a few seconds as if it knew what it was supposed to be doing all along. The fractional rig and the oversized winches mean trimming the jib is relatively easy. The main is easy to hoist with an electric winch and just drops neatly into the stack pack when you’re done sailing for the day.
I’ve sailed fast boats and I’ve sailed comfortable boats, but the Salona S460 might be the best combination of fast and comfy I have ever sailed. It was fun to get somewhere fast and relax while sailing.
And, if you didn’t catch our Green Yachts blog about twin electric motors, Oh My! It is a game changer and something that you will never get from a diesel engine on a sailboat. The benefits of twin electric motors is on top of all the other benefits of going electric like reduced maintenance, quieter, no fumes, etc.
Down below, the S460 cabin is spacious, well-built, luxurious and practical. The refrigerator/freezer has so much insulation around it that when we tested the amp draw, it was only between 1-2 amps. The big dinette table folks out to be even bigger and include folks sitting on the settee for dinner. The cabin cushions were actually comfortable enough to sleep on unlike other boats I’ve been on.
There are some boat manufacturers that have taken interior trim to an extreme and put things like a basin bowl in the heads. This looks great at the dock, but is completely impractical on the water. Salona doesn’t do this. They create a balance between functional and attractive. For the sailor who appreciates luxury and style that works away from the dock, the Salona S460 nails it.
If a fast and comfortable 44-foot cruiser sounds interesting to you, contact Green Yachts to learn more, meet up with us at a boat show or take a demo sail – we look forward to chatting with you!
