Broker's Comments

I'm often asked to advise people on their first boat; this Islander 23 ticks most of the boxes. From its budget price to its forgiving handling and ability to take the ground unaided this boat really does fit the bill for a budget cruiser/weekender. As with many boats at this time of year her decks look a bit green, varnish-work tired and topsides faded, however a weekend spent tidying her up before the next season is all that's required. On the upside, this boat has many extras that aren't usually found on boats of this length, including a remote wheel steering position. These boat details are subject to contract. Note: Offers on the asking price may be considered.

Let's Get to Know Each Other

Let's connect, why it's important to partner with a designer on your islander 23 sail.

The design is the most critical part of your new sail. Ensuring the sail fits and performs its best is a must for our crew. The Precision Sails Design team are experts at their craft. Unlike other sail lofts all of our sailors work one-on-one with a designer to perfect their Islander 23 sail.

Taking measurements is easy. All sailors work alongside our measurement team to measure and confirm their rig specs. This helps ensure your design is flawless and allows us to extend our Perfect Fit Guarantee to all of our sailors.

“ I just received my asymmetrical spinnaker, with sock and turtle bag, along with a new 135 Genoa. The entire process was simple and both sales and the design team were in regular contact if there were any questions. The customer portal was easy to use and lets you keep track of where in the process your sails are. Great sails, great service -Graham Edwards (Facebook)
“ The whole team at Precision Sails was fantastic from start to finish. We’ve had a laminate main and genoa made so far and have a spinnaker on the way. They listened carefully to our needs and recommended a great sail cloth. We couldn’t have gotten more bang for our buck! -Noah Regelous (Google)
“ We received our spinnaker and launched it yesterday and I just wanted to let you know how pleased we are with it. The service we received from your company was exceptional and the quality of your product is second to none. We will certainly be return customers in the next few months to replace our main and jib sails and will recommend your company to all our sailing buddies. Once again-thank you.” -Daniel Jackson (Google)
“ we had good communication during the planning stages and the knowledgeable people at precision sails really got me fixed up good! The sails look and work fabulous! my boat sails better than it ever had! couldn’t be more pleased with the product AND the service!” -Fred Jelich (Facebook)
“ Our new furling jib for a Corsair 27 Had to be specially designed due to the height of the furler, but this was accomplished quickly and in short order we had our sail which fits beautifully and has a great shape. It’s everything we could have wanted, high tech design, thoughtfully executed and affordable.” -Nancy Y. (Yelp)

. A lovely tohatsu 6 sail pro .
I presumed it was just going to drop straight into the ob well ( after using another larger ob on a stern mounted plate. ) but although the will fit , I'm missing something to clamp the engine to .
I'm limited for photos and please ignore conditions on two photos as its now restored and looks like this
Has anyone got any pictures diagrams on how it should sit in the well . produced very little . Not forgetting it's a 23 .
Thanks Woody

26MK II that came with a 10 hp in a well. After the initial year sailing with the , fumes, and aggravation of the outboard down below the seats, I purchased a Suzuki 9.9 with tilt, controls, and a transom mount. I closed off the well to get rid of the other annoyance....sloshing. Granted this was a 3K investment, but the result was a thoroughly enjoyable , trouble free, excellent performing with out the fifth annoyance .....drag. I recommend doing it now if it's in the ballpark of affordability .

onto. Ineed better pictures of the locker in its entirety. Another option would be to install a small inboard like a hatz 7 HP marketed under BMW and Renault an inboard was an option in that vessel.
As a side note a quick Google search turned up this entry that may be helpful for you.

off for sure. Inside the well the engine /prop comes out of the less when in some swell, outside it's available to tilt and not sitting in that damp all the time. A good pic of the inside of your well would help. You saying there is nothing to mount it on? - Elmore Leonard

well. I ended up with a few degrees of steerage in the well by , but blimey what a difference - better thrust since it never came out of the water any more in the roughest , brilliant access for starting and/or , and the super bonus - I found that I could now turn the boat almost in its own length by the motor and together - very handy in a tight marina. With the high thrust prop changed for a high speed (standard) prop we could also go slowly to windward in 50 knots, which has been useful.

, and it is a fairly tight fit. The outboard I have is a Yamaha 8, and I this with a block and tackle. When raised there is a blanking plate that blocks off the hole, I have had to make a new cover for this as the original cover is lower. This was designed to take an 9.9, which had a low measurement from the mounting bracket to the top of the engine. The lifting mechanism I made myself, as I have never seen the original mechanism in a boat which was raised by winding a handle. Although the inboard is lower it is the better engine to use, the lower in the water, the o/b prop lifting out the water in choppy conditions. Hope this helps.

it all the way out water when not in use ( I half think I've mounted it upside down or got where the part fixes and the stern fixing side mixed up . But I presumed the spring was to help me lift the out board up ) .

Islander / Tradewind Yachts

Islander Yachts was an early offshoot of Columbia Yachts. It began (in the mid 1950’s) with boat builder Joseph McGlasson, who designed, built and successfully marketed a 24 foot wooden sailboat, the Islander (Catalina Islander??), in Costa Mesa, California. By 1961, McGlasson had been building a fiberglass version that was so popular that he couldn’t build them fast enough and approached a company called Glas Laminates for help. (By some accounts, Glas Laminates built the first fiberglass version.) Previously, Glas Laminates had been a manufacturer of shower stalls and portable toilets. The ISLANDER 24, the first model from Glas Laminates, also sold faster that it could be manufactured. (It has been said that the mold carried the seams between the planks on the wooden boat that remained visible on the fiberglass hull that became a signature feature of Islanders during this period.) Glas Laminates changed its name to Columbia Sailboats and introduced the Sparkman & Stephens-designed COLUMBIA 29. McGlasson Boat Co. added the McGlasson designed Islander 32 to it’s line. It is thought that some of the earlier Columbias such as the 24, Challenger 24, CONTENDER 24 had origins very close to McGlasson’s own ISLANDER 24, and some later models have equally suspicious similarities. By 1963, the McGlasson Boat Co. became part of Wayfarer Yacht Corporation, with McGlasson still the principal owner and designer. But in the same year, Wayfarer went bankrupt and was purchased by Ralph Brown and Ben Kanter. By 1965 the company started to use the name Islander Yachts, with a new logo. Joe McGlasson went on to build his own boats elsewhere.(See designer record for Joseph McGlasson and builder record for Cape Foulweather Boat Co.) In 1968 Wayfarer sold Islander Yachts to Cosmodyne Inc., and Islander Yachts Inc. became a subsidiary. In 1971, Cosmodyne sold Islander Yachts to yet another conglomerate, Radlon Inc.. A new subsidiary was created called Yachtcraft which sold kit versions of what were often discontinued Islander models. A few years later, Tradewinds Marine, also of Costa Mesa, bought the molds for the ISLANDER 55 although only a small number were actually produced. Nordic Yachts and the Mariner Yacht Company are two more companies that fit into the picture either as producers of Islanders or of boats using Islander molds. (The ISLANDER 34 molds were used to build the NORDIC 34, while the ISLANDER 48 became the East Coast-built MARINER 47.) A company called Iona bought the molds for the ISLANDER 32 MkII, the ISLANDER 24, and the EXCALIBUR 26. The result of this shuffling of assets between companies, there are many different Islander versions of any particular model that could have come from any number of listed builders. In 1984 the production of boats was moved to Costa Rica, but the company went bankrupt in 1986. During the process of liquidation, Newport Offshore Yachts bought some of the original molds, including those for the ISLANDER 36, one of the most popular models. It is said the the files and drawings went to Fuqua Industries, Inc., which became Actava Group, Inc., which was merged into Metromedia International Group, Inc….etc. HID for Islander Yachts: XLYE or XLY

Water quality issues reported.

by Lisa Neff | Be the first to comment

The nonprofit Suncoast Waterkeeper, in its latest water quality testing, found “do not swim” levels of Enterococci bacteria at all but one testing site.

The testing conducted Aug. 21 found high levels of fecal contamination in water at Robinson Preserve and the Palma Sola Causeway North in northwest Bradenton, as well as on Longboat Key at the LBK Boat Ramp and Bayfront Park but not at the Historic Bridge Street Pier in Bradenton Beach.

Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Health said Aug. 23 that tests completed Aug. 19 and Aug. 21 indicated water quality at the Palma Sola South Causeway did not meet recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria.

DOH-Manatee advised water-related activities at the location due to an increased risk of illness.

Test results are available at floridahealth.gov/healthybeaches.

Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough Spend Time Together Out on Boat in New Photos: ‘Cruising’

Bobby Cannavale Gushes About Working With Partner Rose Byrne

Morning Joe ’s Mika Brzezinski and her husband, Joe Scarborough , spent some time together on the water ahead of the weekend.

“Cruising thru the week #usa #freedom #we❤️america,” Mika, 57, captioned a post on her Instagram page on Thursday, August 22.

In the first photo, she and Joe, 61, posed for a selfie. The talk show cohosts wore hooded sweatshirts for the outing on the water. Mika had a pair of sunglasses perched on top of her head for the boat day, while Joe wore a baseball cap.

Facts About Mika Brzezinski You Might Not Know: Inside Private Life

In a second picture shared in the post, Mika and Joe sailed together on a boat. He took the reigns navigating while she stood alongside him in a yellow raincoat and blue rain boots.

“I don’t like when you go on vaca! Selfish me. I enjoy your perspectives every morning!” one person playfully commented, while another wrote, “Love the pics!! Looks like you are having a great time!!!!”

Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough Spend Time Together on Boat

Mika and Joe love spending time by the water, as she inherited her Maine vacation home in Northeast Harbor from her parents.

“We started coming up when we [children] were very young, and the house became a North Star for my entire family,” her brother Mark Brzezinski told the Mount Desert Islander during an interview in December 2020. “When summer would roll around, we would think of Northeast Harbor and getting out to the islands and doing all the hikes and going on the carriage paths.”

And while the pair appeared to be united in their recent photos, sources told Closer that tensions are running high on Morning Joe between Joe and Mika.

“Spending every waking moment together is just too much,” the insider said on August 9. “Their on-air bickering has escalated into full-blown fighting , and the cracks in their relationship are becoming more apparent.”

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski's Love Story: Quotes About Each Other

In the past, Joe admitted that the pair had their fair share of disagreements but always were able to move on from them.

“For me, the mistake always was I’m very driven at work, but I go home and I don’t want to fight. I’m passive aggressive. I’m sort of like, ‘Whatever you want to do,’” the former politician said during a SiriusXM appearance in August 2017. “That’s really what I think hurt me in one relationship after another. And differences grow over a decade and things ultimately blow up. With Mika and me, we both learn you have to. If there’s a problem, put it on the table immediately. If it gets ugly, it gets ugly. You go there and you fight through it.”

He went on to explain that their duties as cohost of Morning Joe have pushed them to settle disagreements before they go on air each morning. The two wed in a private ceremony at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., in November 2018.

“I’ll tell you, the blessing for us is, we always knew we had to take care of things by 6 a.m. the next morning,” he shared. “So we couldn’t go to sleep mad at each other, because Mika has the worst poker face in the history of television. She wears everything on her sleeve. I know if she goes on the air angry with me that everybody’s going to know.”
