And while this large center console has the look of a big dayboat—with its primary focus on the open top deck—below is very large cabin with multiple staterooms and accommodations for six. Perhaps the coolest rule-breaker is the spacious, air-conditioned salon beneath the cockpit. There is seating on three sides for movie nights, or aperitifs out of the sun. But after hours, the center ottoman slides back and transforms into a double bed to turn the social area into a comfortable ensuite guest cabin.

But the 50 is no surprise. Barcelona-based De Antonio Yachts has been breaking the rules since it was founded back in 2010 by Marc De Antonio and Stanislas Chmielewski. From the company’s first design, a playful 23-foot open runabout, it now turns out a lineup that includes 28-, 36-, 42-, and 46-foot models. Enter the D50 Open, along with the extended hardtop D50 Coupe, and these different takes on the flagship give the mid-range yacht class a totally fresh perspective.

On the water, the D50 Open continues its quirky style. Towering, near-vertical hull sides; upright, plumb bow; chopped-off stern. But the combination works.

The glass-sided bow pool is probably its quirkiest feature. When the boat is on the move, owners can throw in cushions to create a sun-lounging space. But as soon as the anchor drops, it gets filled with saltwater as a soaking pool, and with the optional heater, functions as a hot tub. Or the kids will love it as splash pool, too. The point is that De Antonio imagined the space in a new, highly creative way.

While there’s space for a small tender or Jet Ski on the hydraulically lowering rear swim platform, De Antonio prefers a clutter-free space. So they designed a space where the sunpad backrests tilt up and reveal one of the funkiest tender garages ever. The space itself is narrow and deep, allowing a lightweight RIB to be slotted in on its side. Since the tender was designed for an electric Torqeedo outboard, there’s also space here to stow one, and an electric socket for recharging.

At the push of a button, the oversized rear sunpad rises up to reveal the hidden engine bay. Standard power on the D50 Open are four Mercury Verado 300 V8s totaling 1,200 horsepower. There’s also the option of twin 600-hp Verado V12s. Both push the boat to a 52mph top speed.

Opting for the quad Verado 400 set-up delivers the strongest top end. The design team created a twin-stepped hull to channel air under the boat for added lift while softening the ride. Top speed is an impressive 58mph for a boat like this.

Arguably the biggest surprise and delight on the D50 Open are the below-decks accommodations. De Antonio sets itself apart by offering customizable layouts, with two or three cabins, one or two heads, and even a crew cabin. In the bow is the master with a walkaround double bed, hull windows to let in light, and an en-suite head. And for my holiday wish list, the modular cabin mentioned above, with its big, central ottoman that converts into a bed, is a must.

Pricing for the D50 Open starts at $985,000, with U.S. sales handled by Nautical Ventures in Fort Lauderdale—which just received its first D50 in time for the holidays.

De Antonio follows up. At the Royal Yacht Club in Barcelona, the Catalan boat builders have now presented their ninth new model: the De Antonio D32 Open. Marc de Antonio and Stan Chmielewski, the two founders of De Antonio Yachts, performed the unveiling with fireworks and a gala as elegant and stylish as the boat itself.

With a hull length of 9.50 meters, the De Antonio D32 Open is one of the shipyard’s smaller models. As a walkaround, it offers enough space for twelve passengers. The three different zones on board could also stand for three types of use – with three pilot seats at the helm, a dinner table, mini kitchen and sun studio in the cockpit and two cabins plus WC below.

The black T-top roof and the straight stem, together with the angular hull lines, give the boat a lot of character. And distinctiveness is important: the ten-meter class is one of the most densely “populated” segments for family boats and day cruisers.___STEADY_PAYWALL___

As an open-top with a generous width of 3.20 meters, the elegantly designed new model is finely positioned. And equally equipped for the Mediterranean, the natural habitat for this hybrid of day boat and weekender.

Invisible motors

The D32 is available with a choice of two 200 or 300 hp engines. The special trick: the outboard motors are not visible to passengers. because the motors are concealed under the sun lounger – just like the other De Antonio models.

Do we still need to point out today that the latest De Antonio could travel at 50 knots with the maximum equipment? The good ergonomics of the D32 are likely to be decisive for the “lovers of good taste and modern lines who are looking for a practical day boat” targeted by the shipyard. Investor on board

The shipyard is growing. A new investor has just come on board at De Antonio, Quarza Inversiones from Madrid. Together with the founders, who started from very small beginnings, an internationally strong brand is now to be created. De Antonio Yachts builds its boats at three shipyards in Spain and Poland. The company plans to produce more than 150 motor yachts in 2024, with a large proportion already in the order book, according to the company. In 2022, 70 boats were completed; this year, the target is 110.

Together with Quarza Inversiones, there are plans to build larger boats in the next two years. According to the shipyard, boats with hybrid engines and a fully electric model are also in the pipeline.

De Antonio Yachts will produce its new D36 Open model in Spain with Lema Boats

The Andalusian shipyard will be responsible for the manufacture of the new model in the 30-foot range, which will be launched next summer.

De Antonio Yachts thus reinforces its presence in Spain with the first national production centre.

The Barcelona-based brand is taking a step towards increasing its production capacity with a forward-looking agreement with the Andalusian manufacturer Lema Boats, which has more than 40 years' experience in the manufacture of sports boats in Spain. The new production centre has more than 15,000m2 of floor space in several warehouses and modern and complete facilities.

The company's new design, whose first unit will be launched next summer, offers an even more complete and versatile boat than its predecessor the D34, bringing together the best of the Open and Cruiser versions, and improving its sailing performance by implementing the innovations that the company has developed in the latest models in the range.

As part of its growth strategy, De Antonio Yachts has also reinforced the production capacity of its factory in Poland with the construction of a new 4,000m2 building, which will allow the shipyard to take on more units per model.

Marc De Antonio was born in Barcelona. He grew up surrounded with an atmosphere related to art, design and the ocean. In 2006 he started his Design Studio which is called Ubica-id, which designed all models.

Stan Chmielewski was born in Switzerland. Since his childhood he has been passionate for boats, especially motor yachts. In 2011 he left Switzerland and moved to Barcelona to study design, where met Marc.

La producci�n de sus ocho modelos se distribuye entre sus centros productivos Espa�a y Polonia, sumando m�s de 10.000 m2 y un equipo humano de m�s de 300 personas .

En Polonia han ampliado recientemente su capacidad de producci�n, con unas nuevas instalaciones destinadas a las fabricaci�n de su modelo m�s grande, el D50 Open y su nueva variante, el D50 Coup� , que ser� presentado en septiembre en el Cannes Yachting Festival .

Crecimiento constante durante una d�cada de �xitos

De Antonio Yachts ha ido creciendo y consolidando su presencia en el mercado nacional e internacional, con una exportaci�n del 60% de sus embarcaciones .

La compa��a cerr� 2021 con la entrega de 65 unidades , lo que representa un crecimiento del 45% en facturaci�n respecto al a�o anterior. Esta progresi�n se mantiene para este 2022, con 75 unidades vendidas, 85 unidades confirmadas para 2023 y el 50% de la producci�n ya reservada para 2024 .

Entre los objetivos a corto plazo est� seguir evolucionando hacia una gama de embarcaciones m�s sostenible , reduciendo el impacto medioambiental con la utilizaci�n de materiales reciclados y la implementaci�n a toda la gama de su nuevo sistema h�brido, adem�s de la presentaci�n de los primeros modelos totalmente el�ctricos en 2024 .

Marc de Antonio era regatista de élite y estudió diseño; combinó sus dos pasiones y en 2012 erigió De Antonio Yachts, la empresa de venta de embarcaciones de recreo de lujo más importante de España. Pau Venteo E. E.

Marc de Antonio, de patrón del Bribón a erigir un imperio de 45 millones: Felipe VI alquila sus yates

Presente en cinco continentes y con un astillero en almería y dos en polonia, la facturación de su empresa se ha duplicado en el último año. en 2023, el rey alquiló uno de sus barcos para veranear en mallorca..

Marc de Antonio no tiene los manierismos de los millonarios. No mira por el rabillo del ojo ni muestra esa distancia propia del esnob. Tampoco destila la frialdad cáustica y esquiva en la que a veces se escudan los desconfiados hijos de la jet set . Él es, al contrario, un hombre de mundo, un hijo del mar, un trabajador hecho a sí mismo , una de esas almas dispuestas a desvelar ' secretos inconfesables ' si se siente en confianza para arrojar luz sobre el misterio de su propia vida. De Antonio, es legítimo decirlo, se ha convertido en una celebrity de los bajeles por derecho propio: fue futbolista en las categorías inferiores del F. C. Barcelona hasta que se recicló en regatista de élite , ostentó el cargo de  patrón del equipo de vela Bribón Movistar del rey Juan Carlos y en 2012 se convirtió en un gran empresario gracias  De Antonio Yachts , el exitoso negocio de diseño, producción y venta de yates que hoy ostenta con su socio, Stan Chmielewski , junto al que ha puesto a España  a la vanguardia europea del sector de las embaraciones de recreo.

El joven empresario recibe a EL ESPAÑOL  frente al muelle de su Barcelona natal con motivo de la celebración del Salón Náutico 2023. Viste unos sobrios pantalones pitillo negros con una camisa blanca y unas zapatillas deportivas en las que destacan, bordadas en negro, las letras que forman el logo de su empresa. Frente a él, amarrados en el puerto, reposan varias de las lujosas embarcarciones que diseña, construye y distribuye su fábrica de yates: a la derecha está el mastodóntico  D50 Coupé  de 15 metros de eslora que este verano alquiló Felipe VI para veranear junto a su familia en Mallorca ; a la izquierda, un grupo de hombres en camisa blanca remangada y gafas de sol que parecen sacados de un episodio de  Succession  ojean otro barco más pequeño, el D42 , de 12 metros .

Marc de Antonio estrecha la mano con determinación y cordialidad mientras zarpa el tercer bajel atracado en el puerto, el modelo D36 , su nuevo yate compacto, presentado al mundo unos días atrás. "El número  hace referencia a los pies  y la D es la abreviación de la empresa", explica el patrono. "Del 36, por ejemplo, hemos vendido las cuarenta y cinco unidades antes de mostrarlo. Del D32  [señala el cuarto y último barco del muelle], que fue la novedad del año pasado, tuvimos que dividir la producción: las entregas para Europa se fabricaron en nuestro astillero en Almería  y, las que iban para el resto del mundo, en los astilleros que tenemos en Polonia . Estamos en un rango de producción de 110 unidades al año , y el que viene llegaremos a las 160 . Eso es mucho", asegura, orgulloso.

De Antonio Yachts es una de las empresas de venta de yates más punteras de España. Su sede está en Barcelona , tienen su propio astillero en Almería , el Lema Boats , y otros dos en Polonia, el Atlantic Marine-Sealife y el Model Art , situados en las ciudades de  Augustów y Ostróda . Además, detentan una amplia red organizada de centros de distribución en todo el mundo. Están presentes en prácticamente toda Europa , en Arabia Saudí , en Emiratos Árabes Unidos , en Australia , en Turquía , en Bahréin y en México . Además, tienen una base en Miami , donde atienden a potenciales distribuidores.

"Por un concepto de cómo queremos estructurar la empresa, la producción es subcontratada a astilleros con los que tenemos acuerdos a largo plazo, y que incluso trabajan en exclusiva para nosotros. Tradicionalmente, cualquier empresa náutica , especialmente en España, ha tenido siempre su propio astillero, pero concebimos el negocio de forma diferente: tenemos la marca, la empresa, el I+D, estructuramos y desarrollamos toda la línea de negocio y, además, la producción es subcontratada , lo que nos permite diversificar y agilizar el crecimiento".

El secreto del éxito de De Antonio Yachts, asegura su fundador, es que su equipo de casi 30 personas en plantilla está muy especializado en ofrecer una línea de productos centrada exclusivamente en los barcos de motor de náutica de recreo . "Queremos un equilibrio, un producto en el que luzca la arquitectura y que tenga unas líneas puras, algo así como Apple". Por eso, él y sus socios idearon un sistema perfecto para que los motores de sus barcos pudieran estar fuera de la sala de máquinas pero sin necesidad de perjudicar la estética. 

"Dentro de este tipo de barcos, puede haber dos tipos: motores intraborda y fueraborda . El primero implica tener una sala de máquinas con los motores dentro del barco. Fueraborda significa que llevas el motor fuera, en la parte trasera, como en las barcas semirrígidas. Estos últimos tienen una ventaja: requieren de menos mantenimiento y son adecuados para recreo. ¿Su problema? Que son antiestéticos. Es como si llevaras el motor de tu coche colgando. Lo que hicimos fue apostar por el smart design : escondimos el motor para producir  yates con motores fueraboda y estética intraborda. Están fuera pero no se ven".

Por decisión de empresa, confiesa, aunque producen barcos para decenas de países del mundo, España siempre tiene un trato preferencial . "El 33% de nuestra producción va destinado a nuestro país, el otro 33, a Europa, donde incluimos algunos países fuera de la zona geográfica europea, como Reino Unido o Turquía. El 33% que queda va destinado al resto del mundo".

"No paran de decirnos que somos la punta de lanza de la náutica española", continúa Marc de Antonio, tratando de restarse importancia para no parecer arrogante. "Hace un rato ha venido al presidente de la Asociación Nacional Española de Náutica y nos dice: 'Qué orgullo, cómo estáis creciendo, ojalá hubiese otro como vosotros'. Y es cierto que no hay nadie que exporte a todo el mundo, que haga 16 salones náuticos al año en 14 países diferentes, que esté en un volumen de producción como el nuestro. Hemos sido la primera marca española en recibir  el reconocimiento de mejor barco europeo del año. Y dos años más tarde lo hemos ganado de nuevo con otro modelo, el D36. De momento, ninguna otra marca en nuestro país ha logrado algo así".

Su competitividad en el mercado se traslada a los precios. De Antonio Yachts es lo que se conoce como una empresa  price per value , es decir, existen opciones más económicas en el mercado, pero su target no son los milmillonarios . "Evidentemente, la náutica va dirigida a un poder adquisitivo alto, pero dentro del mercado no somos los más caros. Nos gusta decir que somos el lujo accesible . Nuestra barco más barato, ya equipado, ronda los 170.000 € . Luego, el D50, la joya de la corona que alquiló Felipe VI para sus vacaciones, sube a los 800.000 € . Sin impuestos ". Nada que ver con los 50 millones de euros a los que Francis Lapp vende sus yates de lujo a Rafa Nadal y Fernando Alonso .

"Hay mucha confusión con esto del rey ", advierte Marc de Antonio, parapetándose para la ametralladora de preguntas sobre la Casa Real. "Yo fui regatista del Bribón, pero la relación con Felipe VI no viene por ahí. La gente mezcla las cosas fácilmente. Si el actual rey se interesó por De Antonio Yachts fue porque somos la principal marca española y él es un gran aficionado a la náutica . Él mismo vino a inaugurar el salón náutico de Barcelona por su 60 aniversario y se pasó por nuestro estand".

"Como somos la marca de náutica que más exporta fuera de España, se interesó por nuestros barcos, que son barcos de día ,  day boats o  walkaround boats . Le explicamos todo y, meses después, cuando su equipo estaba buscando una embarcación para sus vacaciones con su familia, se acordó de nosotros. Eligieron el D50 que teníamos en Mallorca . Lo reservó durante unos días. Las condiciones de nuestro distribuidor las desconozco, y no le he preguntado, pero un barco en Ibiza , que es donde está la casa de alquiler, con esas mismas características, debe estar en torno a los 2.500 € o  3.000 € al día ". 

La receta de los 46 millones

A De Antonio Yachts le ha costado llegar al punto en el que se encuentra, pero este año va camino de facturar  35 millones de euros  y, el que viene, tiene previsión de superar los 45 . La empresa, no obstante, nació en 2012 como un proyecto juvenil de dos enamorados del mar con ambición de crear algo propio pero sin demasiadas pretensiones de convertirse en empresarios de éxito. "Miramos atrás y esto nos parece una locura".  Marc de Antonio aún tenía 26 años y su socio, el miamense  Stan Chmielewski , 22. El catalán se había licenciado en Diseño en una universidad de  Italia y había vuelto a Barcelona para montar su estudio.

Por aquel entonces, De Antonio ya se había labrado un nombre como deportista: "A mí se me daba bien el fútbol. Llegué a jugar en las categorías inferiores del Barça . Como tenía problemas de rodilla, llegó un momento en el que dejaron de contar conmigo. Tenía 16 años. Fue un  shock . Entonces, acostumbrado a ese chip competitivo y a la filosofía del esfuerzo , mi padre me sugirió que entrase en un centro municipal de vela. Fue el comienzo de todo".

Marc de Antonio comenzó a navegar y, al cabo de dos meses, ya era monitor de vela . Con el dinero que ganó aquel año, sumado a una pequeña ayuda que le dieron sus padres, compró " un pequeño barquito para regatas ". Hizo podio a la primera competición e, indefectiblemente, su pasión por el mar acabó disparándose. Fue un flechazo, amor a primera vista. Los sueños del esférico quedaron atrás y se abrió ante él el vasto y salvaje horizonte azul. "Todo fue muy rápido".

Su éxito fortuito le llevó a conocer a su esposa, Sofía Bertrand , asimismo regatista, y al padrastro de ésta,  Josep Cusí , entonces armador del equipo náutico Bribón e íntimo amigo de su patrón, Juan Carlos I . Cusí, sabedor del talento de su yerno, lo fichó para su escuadrón de navegantes. Con el paso del tiempo,  Marc de Antonio acabó convirtiéndose en patrón del  Bribón , al frente del cual ganó campeonatos de España , copas del rey y varios mundiales.

"Yo quise unir mis dos pasiones, el diseño y el mar . De forma bastante inconsciente, inocente quizás, Stan [Chmielewski, su socio], que era un aficionado de los barcos a motor , y yo, que tenía mi pequeño estudio de diseño , y que aún sigo conservando, empezamos nuestra propia marca . Creíamos en lo que íbamos a hacer, pero no éramos conscientes de dónde nos estábamos embarcando ni qué encontraríamos en ruta". El entrevistado mira, solemne, quizás nostálgico, hacia el muelle donde reposan algunas de sus creaciones. " Hace doce años hicimos nuestro primer salón náutico en Barcelona en una pequeña carpita, con nuestro primer barco,  un D23 de 7 metros . Míranos ahora". 

Parece el momento oportuno para preguntarle qué es lo que tiene el mar que le remueve las entrañas . Marc de Antonio no puede evitar emocionarse cuando evoca su infancia . "Por la posición de mi familia, nosotros nunca tuvimos un barco en casa. Lo máximo era una pequeñita zodiac que mi padre ponía encima del coche cuando cruzábamos en ferry a Menorca . Recuerdo aquellos veranos de quince días en los que sentía una conexión especial con el mar, o en los que alquilábamos un apartamento frente a la playa. También, una vez al año, en Barcelona , iba con mi padre al salón náutico. Mirábamos los barcos y bromeábamos diciéndonos cuál nos gustaría tener . Ahora pienso que he creado una marca de barcos que están en todo el mundo... y se me hace muy extraño".

Marc de Antonio ya está dispuesto a dar rienda suelta a las confesiones. Su negocio le va tan bien, explica, que acaba de comprarse un D36 , su nuevo modelo. "Todos los socios tenemos un acuerdo dentro en la empresa: si alguno quiere un barco lo compra con el descuento de distribuidor". También revela que su dedicación a la empresa y su perfeccionismo extremo lo han separado un poco de aquel idealismo del que gozaba cuando era más joven.

"Llevo varios años sin competir. Lo echo de menos. Soy una persona con mucha sensibilidad , pero los negocios te acaban convirtiendo en alguien más competitivo y frío . El mar pasa a ser tu día a día y, al final, para desconectar, te vas a la montaña. Es la extraña evolución de la vida. Pero yo aún recuerdo aquellos días, con 16 años, en los que empecé a navegar. Cuando estaba delante de Barcelona, completamente solo, me sentía un aventurero". Sonríe. El recuerdo late en su memoria.

"El viento en la cara cuando aceleras, el ruido del agua chocando contra el barco, las luces y los colores que varían, la superficie plana con el cielo encima, salir a las seis de la madrugada para llegar a Cannes en un barco de motor, ver salir el sol, mirar el parte meteorológico y adaptar tu ruta al clima: todas esas sensaciones son puras y evocan a la aventura. He estado en muchos lugares hermosos por trabajo, compitiendo, pero no los he disfrutado. Y hay veces, te confieso, que lo echo de menos".
