Azimut Atlantis 50 foot yacht interior design

A yacht is really just a luxury floating home . When you’re talking 70 feet and larger, they’re a lot nicer than my house. As you’ll see in the luxury yacht interiors below, the quality and aesthetics are simply gorgeous. And we merely feature a small handful of such boats. There are thousands and thousands of these worldwide.

Our epic yacht interiors article is split into 5 galleries:  staterooms, guest bedrooms , salons and dinettes, kitchens and bathrooms. The point of this article is to merely give you a glimpse inside these ultra expensive boats… expensive to buy, run and maintain. Be sure to also check out our yacht decks galleries .

Yacht Primary Bedrooms (Staterooms)

We kick off our yacht interiors gallery with the stateroom. When it comes to the primary bedroom on these boats, no expense is spared. They are large, comfortable and stunning in design. These bedrooms are bigger than our primary bedroom.

Yacht Guest Bedrooms (2 Beds)

Many guest bedrooms on a yacht have two beds so that it can accommodate more people. However, they are, as you’ll see below, still very, very luxurious. These are certainly cozy sleeping quarters.

Salon and Dinette Photos

My favorite room on the boat is the salon and/or dinette area. In many cases, the dinette doubles as the living room. Mega yachts have dedicated salons and dining areas. I love these superb lounge designs below in the cabin as well as the upper lounge areas.

I must admit that kitchens on these super yachts are fairly small. I guess the cooking is done by the staff and yacht owners prefer to have more space for bedrooms, deck space and lounge space. That makes sense given there really is limited space. Nevertheless, these kitchens are gorgeous and the yacht designers certainly didn’t skimp with respect to quality.

Most boats dedicate very little space to bathrooms. Not these. The primary bathrooms below are incredible. The smaller bathrooms are guest bathrooms. These luxury yachts are so large and spacious that even the bathrooms are both beautiful and comfortable to use.

Small Yacht Interior Design: Maximizing Space and Luxury on the Water

Designing a small yacht interior presents a unique challenge: how to create a luxurious and functional space within a compact footprint. Balancing aesthetics with practicality is key to maximizing both comfort and style on the water. This comprehensive guide delves into the art of small yacht interior design, exploring innovative solutions and inspiring ideas to transform your vessel into a floating oasis of luxury.

Small Yacht Interior Design: Making the Most of Your Floating Palace

Designing a small yacht interior is like a captivating puzzle. You’re driven by a desire for luxury and style, but working within the confines of limited space. But that’s where true creativity sets sail. Let’s chart a course to transform your small yacht into a spacious haven of style and comfort.

Turning Tiny Spaces into Big Style Statements

  • Declutter and Deep Clean:  Before you begin, clear the decks! Channel your inner minimalist and remove any unnecessary items. A clean slate allows you to assess the layout and identify areas for improvement.
  • Embrace the Wood:  Many older yachts have beautiful wood hidden beneath layers of varnish and paint. Consider stripping back some of these layers to feature the wood, highlighting its natural beauty while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic.
  • Ditch the Carpet:  Carpet in a yacht’s interior can trap moisture and odors. Opt for more practical and durable flooring materials like marine-grade vinyl, teak, or cork. These options are easier to clean and maintain, ensuring your yacht stays fresh and inviting.
  • Simplify with Upholstery:  Instead of heavy, built-in furniture, consider freestanding pieces with simple and functional upholstery covers. These covers can be easily changed to refresh the look and feel of your yacht’s interior or removed for cleaning.

Bringing the Outdoors In (and Vice Versa!)

When you’re surrounded by water, it’s natural to want to bring those calming vibes inside.

  • Wood:  Utilize light woods like oak or maple for a cozy, welcoming ambiance. Embrace the rustic charm of untreated wood for a more textured, nautical aesthetic.
  • Stone:  Incorporate sleek stone accents like marble or granite for a touch of timeless elegance. These materials are not only visually appealing but also incredibly durable, making them ideal for withstanding the rigors of a marine environment.
  • Sustainability Matters:  Opting for sustainable materials like reclaimed wood or recycled fabrics not only minimizes your environmental impact but also adds a unique, eco-conscious touch to your yacht’s design. Check out this  space-age interior design  to add some space-themed elements to your home.

Blurring the Lines Between Inside and Out

One of the most enchanting aspects of yacht living is the seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

  • Maximize Natural Light:  Install large windows, sliding doors, or even a balcony to invite the outdoors in. Natural light enhances the feeling of spaciousness while providing breathtaking views of your surroundings.
  • Seamless Transitions:  Create a cohesive flow between interior and exterior areas by using similar flooring or design elements. This visual continuity will make your yacht feel larger and more open.
  • Create an Outdoor Oasis:  Extend your living space to the outdoors with comfortable seating, a dining area, or even an outdoor galley. Retractable awnings or sunshades offer protection from the elements while still allowing you to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine.

Putting Your Personal Stamp on Things

Infuse your yacht’s interior with your unique style and personality.

  • Bold Accents:  Don’t be afraid to experiment with bold patterns, vibrant colors, or statement lighting fixtures. These eye-catching elements can add a touch of personality and create visual interest.
  • Personal Touches:  Display personal mementos, artwork, or photographs that reflect your passions and experiences. These personal touches will make your yacht feel like a true home away from home.  Space and interior design  can be a unique and creative way to explore new design possibilities.
  • Bespoke Design:  Consider working with a yacht interior designer to create custom furniture, built-in storage solutions, or unique design features that perfectly suit your needs and preferences.

How to Create a Multi-Functional and Stylish Small Yacht Interior

Creating a multi-functional and stylish small yacht interior is about maximizing every inch while injecting your personal style. Let’s explore how to achieve this:

1. Embrace Natural Materials:  Natural materials like rich wood and cool stone not only add a touch of luxury but also visually expand the space, blurring the lines between your yacht and the surrounding seascape.

2. Employ Space-Saving Solutions:

  • Multi-Purpose Furniture:  Select furniture that serves dual purposes. Think sofas that transform into beds, dining tables that lower to coffee table height, or ottomans with hidden storage compartments.
  • Vertical Space:  Utilize vertical space effectively with shelves, cabinets, and storage solutions that extend towards the ceiling.
  • Hidden Compartments:  Incorporate clever storage solutions like hidden compartments in walls, underfloor storage, or furniture with built-in drawers.

3. Prioritize Flexibility:  Don’t limit a space to a single purpose. A cozy seating area can easily transform into a sleeping space for guests with convertible furniture or pull-out beds. If you’re looking for something truly unique, take a look at this  steampunk interior design style  that’s sure to turn heads.

4. Maximize Natural Light:

  • Ample Windows: Opt for large windows and hatches to flood the interior with natural light, creating an airy and spacious ambiance.
  • Light Color Palette: Stick to a light and neutral color scheme for walls, ceilings, and furniture to enhance the feeling of openness.
  • Mirrors: Strategically placed mirrors can reflect light and create an illusion of greater space.

5. Infuse Your Personal Style:

  • Bespoke Details: Consider custom finishes, unique furniture pieces, artwork, and personalized décor elements that reflect your taste and make your yacht truly one-of-a-kind.

Choosing the Right Materials for Your Small Yacht Interior: Durability

Selecting durable, moisture-resistant materials is crucial for ensuring that your yacht’s interior withstands the demands of the marine environment.

Essential Qualities for Yacht Interior Materials:

1. Fabrics That Can Weather the Storm:

  • Moisture Resistance:  Choose fabrics like microfiber, acrylic, or outdoor-treated options that repel water and resist mildew.
  • Stain Resistance:  Opt for fabrics treated with stain-resistant finishes to protect against spills and mishaps.
  • Durability:  Look for upholstery fabrics with high rub counts, indicating their ability to withstand wear and tear.

2. Flooring That Stands the Test of Time:

  • Marine-Grade Vinyl:  Waterproof, easy to clean, budget-friendly, and available in various styles to suit your aesthetic.
  • Teak:  A classic yacht flooring option known for its natural beauty, durability, and moisture resistance. Regular oiling helps maintain its rich color and water-repellent properties.
  • Cork:  Provides a comfortable, sound-absorbing, and water-resistant flooring option. However, it’s less scratch-resistant than vinyl or teak.

3. Countertops Ready for Anything:

  • Quartz:  An engineered stone that’s incredibly durable, scratch-resistant, heat-resistant, and available in a wide array of colors and patterns.
  • Granite:  A natural stone known for its elegance, durability, and ability to handle heat and moisture. It requires sealing to prevent staining.
  • Solid Surface Materials (Corian):  Offer the look of natural stone with greater resistance to chips and scratches. They’re also less expensive than granite or quartz.

4. Stylish and Low-Maintenance Upholstery:

  • Leather:  A classic, durable, and easy-to-clean option that develops a beautiful patina over time. However, it can be more expensive than other options.
  • Synthetic Leather:  Offers the look and feel of real leather at a more affordable price. It’s also generally more resistant to water and stains than genuine leather.
  • Outdoor-Grade Canvas:  A durable and fade-resistant option that’s often treated to resist water and mildew. It’s available in various colors and patterns to suit a more casual, nautical style.

Aesthetics: Elevating the Art of Small Yacht Interior Design

Aesthetics play a vital role in creating a luxurious and inviting atmosphere within the confines of a small yacht.

Key Principles for Small Yacht Interior Aesthetics:

1. Personalized Minimalism:

  • Clean Lines, Open Space:  Embrace clean lines, simple designs, and a clutter-free environment to maximize the feeling of spaciousness.
  • Personal Expression:  Infuse the space with your unique style through carefully curated artwork, personal mementos, and bespoke design elements.

2. Sustainable Sophistication:

  • Eco-Conscious Materials:  Opt for sustainable materials like reclaimed wood, bamboo, recycled fabrics, and low-VOC finishes.
  • Energy Efficiency:  Incorporate energy-efficient LED lighting, appliances, and climate control systems.

3. Multifunctional Magic:

  • Convertible Furniture:  Select furniture pieces that serve multiple purposes, such as sofa beds, extendable tables, or modular seating arrangements.
  • Hidden Storage:  Maximize storage space with clever solutions like built-in shelves, drawers under seating, and wall-mounted organizers.

4. Natural Elegance:

  • Organic Textures:  Incorporate natural materials like wood, stone, leather, and natural fiber fabrics to create a warm and inviting ambiance.
  • Neutral Color Palettes:  Use a calming and neutral color palette for walls, ceilings, and large furniture pieces. Add pops of color and personality through accents and accessories.

Remember:  The key to successful small yacht interior design lies in harmonizing aesthetics and practicality. By thoughtfully considering the principles outlined above, you can transform your small yacht into a stylish and functional haven that reflects your unique personality and enhances your enjoyment of life on the water.

The Allure of Small Yachts

Small yachts, typically ranging from 20 to 40 feet in length, captivate enthusiasts for various reasons. Their compact size enables easy handling, making them ideal for solo adventurers, couples, or small groups. Despite their smaller dimensions, these vessels often boast impressive features and luxurious amenities.

Price Range for Small Yachts

When it comes to purchasing a small yacht, the price can vary significantly depending on several factors, such as brand, model, age, condition, and included features. On average, small yachts can be found in the price range of $50,000 to $500,000. However, it’s important to note that there are exceptions on both ends of the spectrum.

Factors Influencing Small Yacht Prices

Several key factors influence the price of a small yacht:

1. Brand and Model:

Renowned brands and models often command higher prices due to their reputation for quality, craftsmanship, and design innovation. Well-established yacht builders such as Beneteau, Jeanneau, and Bavaria are known for producing exceptional small yachts.

2. Age and Condition:

Newer models generally come with a higher price tag compared to older ones. The condition of the yacht, including its engine, sails, and overall maintenance, also plays a significant role in determining its price.

3. Features and Customization:

Small yachts equipped with advanced navigation systems, state-of-the-art technology, and luxurious amenities tend to be more expensive. Customization options, such as upgraded interiors, premium materials, and personalized layouts, can also increase the price.

4. Market Demand:

The supply and demand dynamics of the yacht market can influence prices. Popular models in high demand may have higher price tags, while less sought-after yachts could be available at a more competitive price.

Exploring Small Yacht Interiors

Despite their smaller size, small yachts can offer remarkable interior spaces designed for comfort and luxury. Let’s take a closer look at some features you can expect:

1. Efficient Space Utilization:

Small yachts maximize space utilization by employing smart design concepts. Convertible furniture, foldable tables, and hidden storage compartments are commonly found on these vessels.

2. Well-Appointed Cabins:

Small yachts often feature cozy cabins designed to provide comfort during overnight stays. They may include a double bed or two single beds, storage cabinets, and sometimes even an ensuite bathroom.

3. Galley and Dining Area:

Small yachts typically have a compact galley equipped with essential amenities such as a stove, sink, and refrigerator. The dining area, often located adjacent to the galley, offers a cozy space to enjoy meals while enjoying panoramic views.

The saloon area serves as a central gathering space on small yachts. It usually features comfortable seating, a dining table, and large windows to enjoy the surrounding views. Some small yachts may even have a small entertainment system for onboard relaxation.

5. Outdoor Living Spaces:

Small yachts make the most of their outdoor areas to create inviting spaces for relaxation and socializing. Aft decks or cockpits provide seating and dining options, while foredecks may have sun loungers for soaking up the sun.

6. Innovative Design Elements:

Small yachts often incorporate innovative design elements to maximize functionality and create an appealing atmosphere. Clever use of lighting, high-quality finishes, and ergonomic layouts enhance the overall experience on board.

Luxury Small Yachts

If you’re seeking the pinnacle of luxury in a small yacht, you’ll be pleased to know that several manufacturers specialize in crafting high-end vessels that offer premium amenities and exceptional craftsmanship.

Luxury small yachts combine elegance, performance, and comfort. They feature top-of-the-line materials, cutting-edge technology, and bespoke design elements. Some renowned luxury small yacht brands include Riva, Princess, and Ferretti.

These yachts often come with luxurious cabins, opulent saloons, gourmet galleys, and spacious outdoor areas. Advanced entertainment systems, high-end appliances, and custom furnishings create a lavish and exclusive atmosphere.

Small Yachts for Rent

What’s on Trend in Yacht Interior Design for 2021?

NEWS | October 06, 2020

What’s on Trend in Yacht Interior Design for 2021?

Marble and quartz. Light woods. Off whites and soft Champagne color. Japandi. Glass and chrome. Minimalism... The design trends for 2021 borrow from the past while looking toward the future. The teams at Horizon’s two in-house Design Centers discuss the trends they are implementing in both smaller and larger yachts while lending their expertise to styles and looks that will inspire and turn heads in 2021.

1 | THE PALETTE A warm and neutral color palette is the background of the 2021 yacht interior. Unlike the Scandi style that favors pure white, a warm or neutral background complements muted colors and natural hues, like brown and beige. No longer boring and conservative, beige has seen a comeback for providing a serene neutral tone upon which textures and pops of color can add visual interest. Champagnes and other variations of beige add elegance while grey and black accents add drama without being overbearing.

Image 3840: 2132

The 2021 interior design finds common ground between bright and cold colors. Add cooler hues of muted pink, blue and green, warmed up with earthy details and wooden elements. Pops of color can also be introduced, but only when used sporadically so as to not interrupt the harmony of the design.

Image 3841: 3130

2 | NATURAL ELEMENTS Natural, tactile accents are on trend for 2021, so invite nature to join you onboard! Choose high quality furniture constructed of simple and natural materials, such as mid-toned wood with exposed grain. Match furniture with natural, textured fabrics like linen.

Image 3842: 4128

Light woods are a popular material for yacht interiors as they create a comfortable, homey atmosphere. This material can be used not only for flooring, but also for wall coverings and ceilings. Use light, untreated woods to highlight multipurpose spaces.

Image 3843: 5131

When working with a neutral space, texture is key. Add interest by combining different yet complementary materials and textures for a touch of natural simplicity. For warmth, soft, tactile fabrics make a space cozier. Add linen cushions, fuzzy rugs in a plain color, a statement wall art piece in neutral tones, or a living plant to serve as a focalpoint – what better way to achieve the natural look and blend the indoors with the outdoors than with plants and greenery!

Image 3844: 6127

3 | FINISHES Natural elements like wood, metal, glass and stone are the dominant materials in 2021. Coated metals in bronze, iron grey or black lend an unobtrusive, yet refined look, and are swiftly usurping polished stainless steel. Thanks to advances in technology, engineered stone is now a great alternative to natural stone. It is durable, non-porous, and offers a variety of unique patterns and high-contrast veining.

Image 3845: 7127

In the galley, eschew shiny surfaces for relaxing, matte finishes. Only metal accents should shine in this space. Stylish galley designs blend wood with concrete, metal with stone, or glass with artificial materials. It’s also a space where you can have fun, so be bold by combining various textures of one material or similar materials in different colors.

Image 3846: 838

Luxurious head design remains a focus for 2021. White marble or quartz are timeless and sophisticated materials that can be used for flooring and wall coverings as well as countertops, and beautifully complement woods and metal accents for an instantly luxurious look.

4 | HIDDEN FUNCTIONALITY Because space is critical within a yacht’s interior, multifunctional furniture provides flexibility and versatility. A foldable dining table can be transformed to a sofa table or breakfast bar to permit open space for gathering or wider circulation. The hi/lo table can be casual at coffee table height or formal at dining height, and an extendable function fulfills the needs for both intimate family dinners or a large feast. Keep in mind, however, that these pieces should not only be functional and fit the space, but must be visually interesting as well.

Image 3847: 9122

Solid cabinet doors hiding shelves and organizers are also on trend for 2021. Floor-to-ceiling galley cabinets are both functional and stylish, or a modern galley can incorporate low cabinets only for a spacious and luxurious look.

Image 3849: 11114

5 | LIGHTING Never underestimate the importance of lighting in yacht design! Highlight natural lighting wherever possible, taking care to not block windows or incorporate heavy furniture or cabinetry. Incorporate smart technology fiber optic lighting, which offers many advantages, such as being heat free, simple to install, safe, precise, durable and easily maintained. Fiber optic lighting also allows for a variety of colors and programmed settings that can shift from starry night to party mode at the touch of a button.

Image 3850: 1228

Less clutter and cleaner lines define 2021’s look, and simple lighting designs blend perfectly into modern decors. Low-profile fixtures with soft colors and simple geometric designs that follow the Minimalism trend are becoming even more popular. Linear fixtures and track lights also bring harmony and the perfect amount of intentional light to a space.

Image 3851: 1351

6 | MATERIALS Complementing the neutral palette and natural finishes, a textured fabric or wallpaper with contoured lines, vivid patterns or colors remains popular.

Image 3852: 14109

Leather is another preferred and durable material, as it brings a sense of quality and luxury to an interior, holds up against sun exposure and wears well when cared for. Incorporate leather into your interior as an accent piece, a wall covering, or a piece of furniture for that casually elegant look.

Image 3853: 15105

While design preferences differ by market, Modern and Contemporary will be the preferred styles in 2021. Favored in the U.S. market, Modern styling displays bold lines, warm woods and the use of symmetry of space to create a balanced aesthetic. Popular in Europe and Australia, Contemporary styling embraces curved shapes, organic accents and rounded edges. This style welcomes variations and is always evolving, and works well with cooler hues and the latest interior gadgets. Both of these styles successfully execute the simplicity, neutral and natural color palettes, artistic touches and openness described above – perfect for creating a relaxing and luxurious atmosphere on board.

Superyacht Interiors: The Top Luxury Designs

Office Ideas

Everyone knows that a yacht or superyacht is nothing without a luxury interior. Indeed, there’s now a whole range of interior designers who either specialize in or regularly create yacht interiors. So, how do you find the best projects? Here at Insplosion, we want to help. That’s why we’ve gathered a list of our top luxury superyacht interiors !

Yacht fans may also like: Sabrina Monte-Carlo: Famous Interior Designers of Monaco

Brigadoon | studio indigo.

Including the Brigadoon in this list is pretty mandatory. After all, this luxury yacht by Studio Indigo is an actual winner of the World Superyacht Awards 2019! Thus, this project is all about the grand but understated mid-century luxury decor. The flowers, the wood, and navy-colored details combine to make this into a pretty classic luxury boat interior. Indeed, it’s the beautiful and neutral harmony that truly takes this project to the next level.

Studio Indigo Yacht Brigadoon

Besides, it’s quite a practical design. As you can see, the bedrooms and closets are amazingly organized. It’s all about luxury, yes, but also about comfort and practicality. The high seas are no place for clutter, which can cause accidents in bad weather.

But, in contrast with the brown color palette, you have this lovely deck area. With its slightly japandi style influences, this is the perfect place to relax in at the end of a long day.

Aurora Borealis | Winch Design

The Aurora Borealis does justice to its namesake. Indeed, it is as white and bright of an interior as the aurora itself. However, there are all sorts of little decor elements which are reminiscent of the sea. Just notice the shell-shaped ashtray and sea-horse patterns on some of the pillows! Finally, the mid-century lighting really adds a nice touch to the ambiance.

Aurora Borealis Yacht by Wich Design

But there’s much more to admire. How do you like the lovely art deco bar? The lines themselves almost remind you of corals and shells. And the airy, light decor is just as present in the dining and living areas. While just as luxurious, this interior is much different from the Brigadoon’s.

Finally, we’ll leave you with this gorgeous view of the yacht’s deck at night. Once again, the seatings and patterns are chosen to be evocative of the ocean. It’s as gorgeous of a yacht design as you could ask for.

Superyacht Forever | St. Corona Interiors

If you’re looking for something equally light, but much more sober, look no further than Superyacht Forever . This creation by St. Corona Interiors also follows a white color scheme, but the decor elements aren’t quite as feminine. There’s not as much art deco influence here. The lines are much cleaner and simpler, almost minimalist compared to the glamour of the previous project.

RICKY WONG: BEST INTERIOR DESIGN PROJECTS

The bar and living room area follow more or less the same route. Indeed, they favor light color schemes and clean, shapely lines. It’s all about practical luxury, functional without being quite minimalist.

Finally, we have the bedroom. While not opulent in the slightest, this room has the same sort of stylish beauty as the rest of the interior. Once again: you don’t want clutter on the high seas!

Logica | Martin Kemp Design

At last, we reach the Logica .  This project for a luxury yacht by Marin Kemp Design is everything our interior decor dreams are made of. Like the Aurora, it takes a much more art deco approach to superyacht interiors. The little metal details are just what we like to call luxury hardware!

Logica Yacht by Martin Kemp

The bedroom and living space designs follow very similar color schemes and strategies. Since you can’t have any clutter, it’s all about denoting luxury through the tiniest details.

Finally, you have the bathroom project, which is as light and gorgeous as the rest of the design. It’s a luxury bathroom through and through.

So, which of these superyacht interiors did you prefer?

8 Interior Design Firms Making a Splash in the Yacht World

From patricia urquiola to ken fulk, these high-profile designers are nixing traditional yacht interiors for free flowing designs with luxe furnishings., by andrew sessa.

Celebrated architects and decorators known for shore-side projects are increasingly taking to the water, where they’re proving they’re anything but “at sea.” Armed with high-profile yacht commissions, these designers are throwing the cookie-cutter layouts and tired aesthetic tropes of typical marine interiors overboard. Instead, they’re employing floorplans that flow more gracefully, luxe furnishings and blue-chip art that would feel at home in the most sophisticated urban pied-à-terre.

The force of this shift could be felt at September’s Monaco Boat Show, where new designers brought an outsider’s eye to the industry. One especially envelope-pushing case in point: Oceanco recently began an initiative to reimagine the super yacht from top to bottom, tapping forward-thinking Dutch interiors studio Tank as well as former Rolls-Royce design lead Giles Taylor to make it happen. While we wait to see, and sail on, what they’ll create, we’ve gathered an elite crew of star decorators, many brand-new to the life aquatic, whose genre-changing work is on the water right now.

This studio launched its superyacht arm, Njord , in 2020 to meet the needs of residential clients spending more time on the water during the pandemic. “They loved their yachts for a week or two, but the boats didn’t feel like home when you lived on them for months,” says cofounder and creative director Marie Soliman-Berglund, whose team set out to give the vessels that special ambience. Apart from adding decadent details such as decks from French flooring purveyor Oscar Ono and cutting-edge air-filtration technology, Njord created taller rooms, or the illusion thereof. The main saloon on the 249-foot Eden features a metallic fabric overhead and an opening to the floor above. Combined, the interventions give the space a “sense of height and elegance” that’s tricky to achieve in a ship’s tight quarters.

Patricia Urquiola

Italian yard Sanlorenzo recently built upon its award-winning aesthetic credentials by enlisting Spanish-born Urquiola for an ongoing collaboration. Featuring a travertine-encased central staircase of bronzed steel and oak and pieces from Urquiola’s own furniture collections, SD96 puts a refreshing focus on flowing spaces and open views. “I like working on projects where the client asks you to do something you’ve never done before,” says Urquiola, who notes that being “a beginner in the industry helped me propose my personal way of experiencing the boat, making sure that the usual comfort of a home is replicated in a smaller space.”

Bryan O’Sullivan Studio

Lauded for his recent work with Maybourne Hotels —including London’s Connaught , Berkeley and Claridge’s —the Irish-born O’Sullivan crafts superyacht interiors that incorporate his signature mix of custom pieces, midcentury furniture, curated artworks, rich textures and colorful accents. His 164-foot Mosaique and 221-foot Icon impress with such atypical nautical furnishings as a one-ton serpeggiante -marble soaking tub, a Vladimir Kagan glass-topped coffee table and curving sofa, Pierre Chareau lighting and custom pieces from Apparatus. Currently he’s at work on the full refit of a 230-foot yacht and annual updates to Icon .

Peter Mikic

Mikic , a former fashion designer, actually made his interiors debut at sea, crafting elements for London property developers the Candy brothers’ yacht in 2006, which led Elisabeth Murdoch to commission Mikic to decorate her entire 159-foot Elisabeth F. two years later. “I designed it in a way that was like an apartment,” he recalls of the vessel, which won awards at both the Monaco and Antigua boat shows. “I had almost no built-in furniture, which is crazy.” Today he continues to buck marine norms. Combining classic elegance with playful colors, patterns and textures, he gave a 109.5-foot yacht a bachelor-pad feel, and he’s now putting sheepskin-clad Fritz Hansen chairs and tufted boucle sofas on a 195-foot sailing yacht alongside contemporary British artworks by the likes of Bridget Riley.

Yale School of Architecture grads Eric Clough and Eun Sun Chun—whose projects include a 6,000-square-foot Houston penthouse and more than 150 Christian Louboutin boutiques— recently completed their first marine commission, a refit of Monte Carlo Yachts’ 105-foot MCY 105 for a client in Hong Kong. Chun and Clough selected surprisingly seaworthy fabrics from Loro Piana and Hermès , furniture by Blackman Cruz and Carl Hansen and lighting from the Urban Electric Co. One particularly homelike vignette finds classic Hans Wegner Wishbone chairs surrounding a French-walnut dining table under an abstract painting by Laurent Hours.

Foley & Cox

Founding principal Michael Cox and design director Zunilda Madera bring an acute appreciation of luxe details to yacht interiors (thanks in no small part to the decade Cox spent with Ralph Lauren ’s home brands). For the 152.5-foot vessel of a client whose homes in Monaco and Austria they decorated, the duo combined custom furniture from DeAngelis —including plush upholstered sofas with a depth and a softness that defy at-sea expectations—with finds from the Paris Flea Market . These idiosyncratic pieces, they say, bring a collected, eclectic patina to the yacht, reflecting the client’s personality.

Ken Fulk Halekai Deck

A consummate showman, Fulk just completed his first yacht interior, a wooden sailing vessel for longtime clients. It combines historic inspiration with whimsical contemporary twists. The ship’s name, Halekai, means “home on the sea” in Hawaiian, which points to the state of mind of both clients and design team. With Honolulu’s Iolani Palace as a jumping-off point, Fulk combined the European and the indigenous, creating such evocative details as carved teak doors and custom marquetry in teak and koa wood and embroidered headboards based on a royal Hawaiian wedding quilt.

Tara Bernerd

Known for designing hotels and restaurants from Chicago to Osaka, Bernerd first brought her signature industrial élan and masculine edge to the sea nearly a decade ago. “Yacht interiors so often veer towards the traditional,” she says. “We’ve sought to bring a fresh, contemporary, sporty feel with pale washed woods and beautiful linens mixed with textured fabrics.” On a just-completed 102-foot Sanlorenzo yacht, marble insets adorn built-in cupboards while panels of green onyx clad a bathroom’s walls and the front of the glam below-deck bar.

5 Yacht Interior Designers To Consider For Your Next Refit Or New Build

The best yacht interior specialists..

The world of superyacht interior design deserves its own Netflix series. Seriously. It’s a high-class, ultra-luxury, competitive business that turns a small idea into a masterpiece. A superyacht interior should have equal parts wow-factor and functionality to elevate the boat. It takes a particular eye for art, detail, layout, and innovation to be a top name in (any type of) design industry.

For most firms, designing a superyacht is a personal experience. They’re masters at balancing a thousand different elements to create a single, elegant outcome. Elite design studios have the skills, talent, and intuition to create a layout, design, and decoration that wins awards. We already highlighted impressive yacht interiors , but who are the teams behind scenes? Here are 5 yacht interior designers to consider for your next refit or new build.

Interior design by Hot Lab onboard Hull #4 of the Numarine 32XP

Italians have an eye for art and design, and award-winning design firm Hot Lab seamlessly integrates sophisticated detail into their work. Their interior designs are sharp, stylish, and modern. Over the years, Hot Lab has received several international awards, including World Superyacht Awards and Showboats Design , World Yachts Trophies, and Finest Interior Awards . The studio has solid relationships with both Italian and foreign shipyards and works together on both custom and series-produced yachts.

A great example of interior design by Hot Lab is on Hull #5 of the Numarine 32XP (available for a Summer 2022 delivery). The studio incorporates clever lighting throughout the yacht to give it a bright atmosphere that highlights materials from Armani Casa and custom marbles in greens and blues.

Contact Denison yacht broker Alex G. Clarke to inquire about the Numarine 32XP.

2. Giorgio Cassetta

Interior design by Giorgio Cassetta onboard the Spritz 102

Italian superyacht designer Giorgio Cassetta is the dark night of yacht design. He flys under the radar yet he’s worked on some of the biggest and most stunning yachts in the world. His designs have personality, with a flare of timelessness and functionality that instantly makes you appreciate the setting. Past clients include Bennetti and Cigarette Racing, but he’s currently working with Alpha Yachts to design custom new build yachts.

Boutique shipyard Alpha Custom Yachts worked with Giorgio Cassetta to create an elegant interior for the Spritz 102 . According to Cassetta, the yacht has the feel of a Miami villa combined with great functionality. When inside the yacht, guests are never disconnected from the environment. The installation of the windows ensures constant visibility of the water and sky, even from the bed. The effect is particularly stunning in the full-beam owner’s cabin where the windows are oversized and less than half a meter above the water.

Contact Denison yacht broker David Johnson to inquire about the Spritz 102.

3. Gregory C. Marshall

How to Design an Amazing Superyacht Interior

Before you take your new yacht on the high seas, the first task is designing its interiors.

By Elite Traveler

small luxury yacht interior

So you’ve had your taste of sailing the high seas – you’ve done the cruises , the private charters and even walked the rounds at the yacht shows – and decided that your love of the ocean requires something more; a yacht of your own. However, if you have purchased a vessel that has not been pre-designed or furnished, the next task will be designing superyacht interiors to fit your requirements.

Much like the design of private jets, the size and usage of a yacht will be the main factors in how the vessel is designed. How many cabins will it have? How many leisure spaces? Will you need space to carry out work or entertain guests?

One of the easiest ways to get around these questions is to work with a yacht interior designer , who can help you work through all the decisions and will also have knowledge of the health and safety requirements of any vessel before it is certified as sea-worthy. Although we would highly recommend seeking expert opinion, it doesn’t hurt to start thinking about what interiors you would like to see in your yacht.

Elite Traveler has put together a collection of interior options including everything from lighting to dinnerware, to spark your imagination and help you start creating the perfect superyacht interiors.

One of the most important considerations for both the style of your superyacht interiors and the safety aspect will be the furniture you choose. Depending on the size of your yacht, you may also have several rooms to furnish – giving you the opportunity to create your ideal lounge, dining space, office, cabin and even a gym or onboard cinema.

No matter the type of room, you are sure to find something that suits your style with Visionnaire. The luxury furniture company has been making world-class pieces since launching in 2005, with a strong focus on high-quality, natural materials. We particularly love the stunning Pavone Armchair , a statement piece that comes in a range of colors and metal finishes.

For beautiful and sustainable woodwork, opt for British furniture manufacturer RAFT. The brand is best known for using sustainable teak that is tried and crafted in Indonesia; the wood is naturally pest-resistant and durable, growing without heavy irrigation or fertilizers. RAFT’s Teak Root Glass Dining Table is a great option for any dining space, coming in a variety of sizes with a contemporary look that will work well with a variety of styles.

If you’re looking for something more bespoke and selective for your furniture pieces, look no further than Glyn Peter Machin . The designer and his team have been crafting bespoke furniture and accessories for over 20 years, with a portfolio of works that covers private residences and superyachts across the world. One of the brand’s latest pieces is a vibrant wireless Audio Cabinet that acts both as a work of art and a functional addition to any cinema room.

Accessories

One part of interior design that is often overlooked is the accessories within a room – but these can often be the final touches that finalize a space and harmonize it. For example, a well-chosen dining table will need dinnerware that has also been thoughtfully chosen. We prefer luxurious homeware brand L’OBJET’s Aegean Filet collection in gold; its finish is subtle and won’t detract from the food being served, but also has a slightly nautical touch with the scale-like gold trim.

If you’re planning on entertaining onboard your yacht, it’s impossible to go wrong with Baccarat – the global luxury icon that has been handcrafting beautiful crystal objects for over 250 years, ranging from stand-out decorative pieces to exquisite table and barware. To really make an impression when the celebrations get started, cool your champagne in Baccarat’s Harcourt Champagne Cooler .

When thinking about other types of accessories or final touches to pull a space together cohesively, don’t forget about artwork and how this can play a part in your superyacht interiors. For a stylish, lifelike sculpture to act as a statement piece within any room onboard, opt for a work by Hamish Mackie . The British sculptor is particularly interested in wildlife and capturing the spirit of the animals, with pieces being cast in bronze and silver.

When it comes to superyacht interiors, another important aspect of the design is the materials that are used throughout the vessel – these should be both stylish and seaworthy, adding to the style of a room while still complying with safety checks. A yacht interior designer will know how to approach this, but there are several brands that specialize in yacht materials worth knowing, in case you are planning a specific look onboard your yacht.

small luxury yacht interior

Studioart , for example, is a manufacturer of high-quality upholstery leathers and wall coverings, which mixes innovative technologies with the heritage and craftwork of leather making. This careful balance has meant that the brand can now be found in private yachts, homes and jets across the globe. For other types of surfaces, we love Nature Squared – an innovative company transforming sustainable, natural materials into high-quality surfaces and finishes for a range of products, private homes, yachts and more.

Finally, no list of yacht-worthy materials would be complete without mention of the world-renowned House of Tai Ping : the brand creates some of the most exquisite handmade and woven carpets in the world, which can be found everywhere from five-star hotels to private jet and yacht interiors. In fact, the brand has its own Yacht Division, which was founded in 2002, making it even easier to translate its beautiful designs into pieces that can work on your yacht.

Small Yacht: Essential Buying Guide for New Owners

The world of yachting has seen a steady rise in popularity. With that has come a growing interest in small yachts.

small luxury yacht interior

These vessels, often referred to as mini yachts or small luxury yachts, provide an accessible and versatile option for those looking to venture into the nautical lifestyle. Small yachts range from about 30 to 65 feet in length. They cater to a variety of needs, blending luxury aesthetics with the functionality and maneuverability of compact marine vessels.

Understanding the unique characteristics of small yachts is essential for potential buyers and enthusiasts. Their design and construction prioritize space efficiency and creativity. This enables a comfortable living experience aboard, without sacrificing performance and handling capabilities.

small luxury yacht interior

Therefore, it's crucial to examine factors such as yacht size, layout, amenities, fuel efficiency, and sailing range when exploring the market for small luxury yachts.

Key Takeaways

  • Small yachts provide a versatile and accessible option for exploring the nautical lifestyle.
  • Design and construction balance luxury aesthetics with functionality and maneuverability.
  • Essential factors to consider include size, layout, amenities, fuel efficiency, and sailing range.

Understanding Small Yachts

Defining Small Yachts

Small yachts, also known as mini yachts, are vessels designed to offer the luxury and amenities of a superyacht in a more compact and manageable size. These yachts typically range from 20 to 60 feet in length, which is much more modest when compared to the vast size of superyachts 1 .

Although smaller in size, these yachts still boast a variety of features and can include a range of models, from motor yachts to sailing yachts.

Small Yachts vs. Superyachts

The differences between small yachts and superyachts are not just about size. Superyachts tend to offer more extravagant amenities, such as onboard cinemas, helipads, and multiple swimming pools. On the other hand, small yachts focus on providing a comfortable and luxurious experience while being more budget-friendly and easier to handle 2 .

Here are some key differences between small yachts and superyachts:

FeaturesSmall YachtsSuperyachts
Size20-60 feet 100+ feet
AmenitiesBasic to moderate luxury Ultra-luxurious
HandlingEasier to maneuver Requires crew
Price$20,000 to $500,000 $10 million+

Types of Small Yachts

There are two primary types of small yachts: motor yachts and sailing yachts. Each type offers unique features and advantages depending on the owner's preferences and intended use.

  • Motor Yachts : These mini yachts are powered by engines, making them ideal for those who prioritize speed and convenience. Motor yachts often come with more creature comforts and can reach destinations quickly 9 .
  • Sailing Yachts : Sailing yachts rely on wind power, offering a more traditional and eco-friendly sailing experience. They provide a sense of adventure and connection with the sea while still offering a range of comfort features 10 .

Both motor and sailing yachts can be further classified into various subcategories, such as powerboats and sailing catamarans, each with its own unique characteristics.

Design & Construction

Hull Design and Material

When it comes to the design and construction of small yachts, hull design and material selection are of utmost importance. Most small yacht builders, such as Small Trimaran Design , focus on creating efficient and stable hull designs. These can be found in various forms, such as monohulls and multihulls.

Various materials can be used in the construction of yacht hulls. Common options include wood, steel, aluminum, and composites like fiberglass, GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic), and carbon fiber . The choice of material can have a significant impact on the yacht's performance, durability, and maintenance requirements.

Deck Layout and Features

A well-designed deck layout contributes greatly to the comfort and functionality of a small yacht.

Luxury yacht builders, such as Burgess and Fraser , pay special attention to optimizing deck space for both practical and aesthetic purposes.

Key features often found on small yachts include:

  • Cabins : Depending on the size of the yacht, there may be one or more cabins for sleeping, typically offering a comfortable and cozy environment.
  • Outdoor living : Designers strive to maximize outdoor living spaces, such as lounge areas and sun decks, allowing passengers to enjoy the surroundings and fresh air.
  • Coachroof : A raised section of the deck, the coachroof often houses the entrance to the yacht's interior and provides additional headroom below deck.
  • Interiors : Small yacht interiors can be designed with efficient use of space, incorporating luxury finishes and furniture to create a comfortable and stylish atmosphere.

Some yachts even make use of advanced materials like foam in their construction, which can offer benefits in terms of weight reduction and insulation.

Performance and Handling

Sailing Performance

Small yachts are known for their agility and responsiveness in a variety of sailing conditions.

The lifting keel plays a crucial role in enhancing their performance, allowing them to access shallow waters and engage in creek crawling .

The versatility of these compact vessels allows sailors to enjoy the thrill of sailing on open water, as well as navigating through narrow channels and shallow creeks.

Some popular small yachts with remarkable sailing performance include the Sadler 26 and the Rustler 37 .

The maneuverability and ease of handling make these yachts perfect for both inexperienced and seasoned sailors.

Motor Yachting Efficiency

While small yachts are primarily designed for sailing, many of them can also function as motor yachts when needed. This allows for greater versatility, especially in situations where wind conditions are unfavorable.

In comparison to larger powerboats and cruisers, small motor yachts are generally more fuel-efficient, easier to maneuver, and require less maintenance.

Motor yachting efficiency can be affected by factors such as:

  • Engine type and size
  • Weight distribution

A well-designed small yacht strikes a balance between sailing performance and motor yachting efficiency, making it an excellent choice for those who enjoy the best of both worlds.

The Hobie Cat , for example, is a popular small sailboat that can be easily powered by a small outboard motor when needed.

Living Aboard a Small Yacht

Comfort and Accommodations

Living aboard a small yacht offers a unique and enjoyable lifestyle .

One of the key aspects of a comfortable liveaboard experience is having well-designed interiors and cabins. Most small yachts are designed with efficient use of space in mind, providing comfortable sleeping quarters, ample storage, and functional galleys for meal preparation. Some yachts even feature crew quarters for those who choose to sail with a crew.

It's important that the cabins offer a cozy and pleasant atmosphere, an essential factor when living aboard for extended periods.

When it comes to outdoor living spaces , many small yachts have cleverly designed decks and seating areas for lounging, enjoying the surroundings, or simply watching the sunset.

The yacht's galley should be well-equipped, featuring appliances such as a stove, refrigerator, and sink, making it possible to prepare meals just like at home.

Many small yachts also come with well-appointed saloons that provide additional space for dining, relaxing, and socializing with friends and family.

Entertainment and Social Spaces

Small yachts designers often prioritize creating social spaces, both indoors and outdoors, that cater to various needs.

The saloon is typically the heart of the yacht's interior, offering a comfortable space where everyone can gather for meals, play games, or watch movies.

Outdoor living is another essential aspect of the liveaboard lifestyle. Many small yachts are designed with spacious deck areas for sunbathing, enjoying the fresh air, and taking in the surroundings. These spaces can also be great for hosting outdoor events or simply relaxing with a good book.

The Buying Process

Choosing the Right Model

When purchasing a small yacht, it's essential to focus on choosing the right model that suits your needs.

Major yacht brands like Azimut and Ferretti offer various models with different features and specifications.

Consider factors such as the yacht's size, intended use (coastal cruising, blue-water passage-making, or competitive racing), and your budget.

On average, a small brand-new sailing yacht can cost anywhere from $50,000 to $200,000 or more .

Inspecting a Small Yacht

Before making a purchase, it's crucial to inspect the condition of the small yacht. Factors to consider include:

  • Age: Older yachts may require more maintenance and have outdated features.
  • Model: Different models come with various features and layouts, so choose one that fits your needs.
  • Condition: Check for signs of wear and tear, as well as any repairs or replacements needed.

When searching for small yachts for sale , it's highly recommended to hire a marine surveyor to carry out a thorough inspection of the yacht. They will provide a detailed report on the vessel's condition and recommend any necessary repairs or improvements.

Securing a Purchase

Once you have chosen the right model and inspected the yacht, it's time to negotiate the yacht price and secure the purchase.

It's advisable to involve an experienced yacht broker who can simplify the process, handle negotiations, and aid with post-sale support.

When determining the final purchase price, bear in mind factors like the yacht's age, model, condition, and any additional features.

Maintenance and Upkeep

When owning a small yacht, it's crucial to ensure proper maintenance and upkeep to keep the vessel in great condition.

The age and condition of your yacht will greatly influence the maintenance schedule and tasks required. This section will cover the basics of routine maintenance and necessary repairs and refits.

Routine Maintenance

Regular inspection and maintenance of your yacht's essential systems can help prevent major problems in the long run.

It is important to follow a maintenance schedule and to use a calendar or reminder app to stay on track with your maintenance tasks. Yacht maintenance schedules often include the following key areas:

  • Hull and Engine Inspection: Perform regular checks for any signs of leaks, corrosion, or damage. Clean and repaint the hull periodically to prevent fouling.
  • Electronics, Sails, and Rigging: Inspect all electronics, sails, and rigging for wear and tear or any signs of damage. Replace or repair them as needed.
  • Interior and Exterior Lights: Ensure all lights are functional, and replace any damaged or burned-out bulbs.
  • Cleaning: Regularly clean the yacht's interior and exterior surfaces using gentle cleaning agents and fresh water to prevent dirt and salt buildup.
  • Fuel and Water Tanks: Check and refill fuel and water tanks as needed, and inspect for leaks or contamination.

Repair and Refit

As your small yacht ages, it is essential to address any issues through repair and refit. Here are some common repair and refit tasks to help keep your yacht in the best possible condition:

  • Engine Maintenance: Change oil, internal engine anodes, and check for any issues with engine mounts or fuel tanks. Maintain a proper 55-point skipper's checklist to ensure smooth engine operation.
  • Electrical System: Replace or repair any malfunctioning electrical components. Ensure the wiring is in good condition and perform upgrades as necessary.
  • Sail and Rigging Repair: Check for wear and tear or damaged parts, and replace any components that are no longer in good condition.
  • Upholstery and Interior: Regularly clean, repair, or replace cushions, curtains, carpets, and other fabric materials on board.

Yachting Lifestyle

Destinations and Marinas

The yachting lifestyle offers numerous opportunities for exploring breathtaking destinations and marinas around the world.

Most yacht owners prefer to dock their vessels in well-equipped marinas. These marinas provide high-quality facilities, services, and security.

Some of the top destinations for small yachts include the Mediterranean, the Caribbean, and picturesque coastal towns in Europe and the United States.

The Mediterranean is home to famous yachting hotspots such as the French Riviera, the Greek Islands, and the Amalfi Coast . Meanwhile, the Caribbean offers a tropical paradise with its clear turquoise waters, white sand beaches, and hidden coves .

The Mediterranean

  • French Riviera: Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco
  • Greek Islands: Santorini, Mykonos, Corfu
  • Amalfi Coast: Positano, Capri, Sorrento

The Caribbean

  • Virgin Islands: St. Thomas, British Virgin Islands
  • Bahamas: Nassau, Exumas
  • British West Indies: Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia

Yachtsmen can also explore vibrant coastal towns in the United States, such as Newport, Rhode Island , or Annapolis, Maryland. These towns have a rich maritime history and provide access to world-class marinas.

When deciding on a marina, yacht owners should consider factors such as the amenities offered, proximity to popular destinations, and the depth of the harbor. Additionally, safety and environmental standards should not be overlooked.

Community and Events

Yachting is not only about the exploration of beautiful destinations but also about the experience of socializing with fellow yacht enthusiasts.

The yachting lifestyle fosters a strong sense of community, as yacht owners frequently mingle at marinas, yacht clubs, and exclusive events.

Yacht clubs and organizations often host events and regattas, where like-minded individuals can share their passion for sailing and create lasting bonds.

Participating in these events is a fantastic opportunity to expand one's social and professional network within the yachting world.

Notable yachting events include:

  • The Monaco Yacht Show
  • The Antigua Charter Yacht Show
  • The Cannes Yachting Festival
  • The Newport International Boat Show

These events showcase the latest trends and innovations in the yachting industry, providing attendees with both networking and learning experiences.

Charter and Rental Options

Comparing Ownership and Charter

Owning a small yacht can come with many advantages, such as having the freedom to sail whenever and wherever desired. However, ownership also involves significant costs, including maintenance, docking fees, and insurance.

On the other hand, chartering a yacht can offer a more cost-effective, low-commitment option. Yachts for rent are available in various sizes and price ranges, accommodating anything from a luxurious vacation to a simple day trip.

Chartering allows the enjoyment of the yachting experience without the burden of upkeep, while still providing access to luxury and customizable vacations.

There are different types of charters to consider:

  • Bareboat Charter : The individual or group rents the yacht and operates it without a hired skipper or crew. This type is suitable for experienced sailors with the necessary certifications.
  • Skippered Charter : Provides a professional skipper to help navigate the yacht, while the customers handle all other aspects, like provisioning and potentially crewing.
  • Crewed Charter : More common in luxury and mega yachts, this all-inclusive option provides a complete crew, from a skipper and deckhands to a chef and hospitality staff.

Finding Yachts for Rent

In order to find the ideal yacht for a trip, it is crucial to research the available options.

One popular website for browsing yachts is YachtCharterFleet , offering a comprehensive list of luxury superyacht rentals. Their inventory includes everything from small yachts to mega yachts, catering to a wide range of budgets and group sizes.

Another option for discovering yacht charters is the Moorings platform, specializing in private yacht charters and vacations catering to a variety of boating preferences.

For those looking for more personalized sailing vacations, Moorings Crewed Yacht Charters provides customized, all-inclusive travel experiences, allowing guests to enjoy luxury and adventure at their desired destination.

When choosing the right yacht charter, some key factors to consider are the size and type of the yacht, the desired destination, length of the trip, budget, and any specific services or amenities included.

In any case, the options are virtually endless, ensuring that there is a perfect yacht rental available for any occasion.

The Best Mini Yacht Brands for Cruising and Luxury

6th sep 2024 by lenny rudow.

Rightboat logo

There are many different types of yachts , and there’s no commonly agreed definition of what makes one a mini yacht, but you’ll know one the moment you step aboard. Luxury and comfort are prerequisites, and to be any sort of yacht a boat needs to have all the comforts of home. Most mariners would consider 40 feet of LOA (length overall) to be the minimum for a “regular” yacht, yet there are plenty of luxurious vessels in the 30- to low-40-foot range that, setting aside size, check all the boxes to qualify for yacht status. These, we can safely dub mini yachts. But, which are the best mini yacht brands? How much do mini yachts cost? Is there one out there that might prove ideal for you and your family?

Best Mini Yachts Under $250,000

Best mini yachts $250,000 to $500,000, best luxury mini yachts, best sport mini yachts, best family mini yachts, choosing the best mini yacht for you.

While $250,000 is a lot of money to most of us, it’s an impossibly low figure to purchase a new, full-sized yacht. It’s even tough to find a mini yacht in this category, too. You have to expect minimal size, tight quarters, and a limited number of berths. That said, there are some boats out there that hit this price-point yet still offer reaspmab;e sleeping quarters, full galleys, comfortable saloons, and yacht prerequisites like air conditioning and entertainment centers.

When searching the market for a mini yacht you’ll find that while your options may be limited at this price ceiling, it’s possible to find a wider range of models if you consider looking at used boats for sale . True, we’d all like to buy our boats new. But a wide variety of mini yachts that cost above this budgetary bar when new can be found within this range when they’re just a few years old, including some of the very best yacht brands around.

Top Mini Yacht Brand Picks Under $250,000

As one of the largest boat builders in the world, Beneteau benefits from economies of scale, and they have boats with all the goods of a mini yacht that fall into this budget range. The Antares 11, a 36-footer with all the comforts of home and a swing-down gunwale that transforms into a huge swim platform, is one example. Or if sailing is more your style, check out the Oceanis 34.1, with two private cabins and a full galley, head, and dinette. Beneteau boats for sale

Ranger Tugs

Ranger Tugs offers the R-27, which despite its model designation is 31’7” long. Starting cost is just under our mark, rigged and ready for cruising with a Yamaha F300 outboard that provides sporty performance with a 30-mph cruising speed and a top-end over 40 mph. There’s a forward private stateroom, a dinette that converts into a berth, a full galley, air conditioning, and plenty of little perks like USB charging ports, an electric grill, a multi-zone stereo system, and EVA foam padding on the deck.  Ranger Tugs boats for sale

Doubling the budget opens up a lot more possibilities, particularly among options from the best cabin cruiser boat brands. You can get a bit larger, a bit more opulent, and you’ll have many more options with diesel inboard power versus outboards and stern drives. Of course, not all cabin cruisers can make the grade as a mini yacht, and not all mini yachts are cabin cruisers. As your choices expand, you’ll have a lot more decisions to make.

Top Mini Yacht Brand Picks Under $500,000

The Axopar line includes several models that MSRP in this price range, but the big surprise here is just how large you can get and stay under the $500,000 mark. The 45 Cross Top, for example, pushes the boundary of putting the “mini” in mini yacht, yet still lists for substantially less than half a mil. We should note that these boats are by design more like weekenders than cruisers, with relatively small cabins for their size and lots of open outdoor space, but those who are more concerned with feeling the salty breezes and warm sunshine than they are with sleeping space will love them.  Axopar boats for sale

Cutwater is known for building boats that pack a lot of utility into a very small package, and models like the C-30 CB (35’8” LOA) and C-32 CB (37’8” LOA) are great examples of why. They have everything aboard you need to live the yachting lifestyle, a flybridge atop the cabin, and are available with luxury packages but still don’t come close to breaking this price-point. Plus, with the C-30 you get the reliability and long range abilities of cruising with a diesel inboard in the engine room.  Cutwater boats for sale

Jeanneau, part of the Beneteau Group, has several models that hit the mark. One nifty perk is that some, like the NC 1095 Fly, meet all the parameters for a mini-yacht and fall into this price range but also have a flying bridge. There’s no doubt you’ll feel on top of the world when you’re running your mini yacht from up top. Jeanneau also has several Sun Odyssey sailing yachts that make the grade for those who want to run with the wind.  Jeanneau boats for sale

To some degree luxury, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder, but it’s hard to argue with goodies like high-tech entertainment systems, electrically-actuated loungers, solid teak interiors, or all of the above—and then some. In any case you’ll expect perks like high-end fabrics covering uber-comfortable cushions, complete climate control, and heads that have separate showers. It’s tough to fit all that into a mini yacht’s footprint, but these builders make the grade.

Top Luxury Mini Yacht Brand Picks

Back Cove Yachts was among our choices for the 10 Best Downeast Lobster Boat Brands, and this builder pulls a repeat appearance in the mini yacht division. With classic looks, a spectacular fit and finish, straight diesel inboard powerplants, and interiors that literally gleam with varnish, Back Cove’s boats are classics in every sense. Yet they also pamper the occupants with perks like hot and cold cockpit showers, electric-opening engine room hatches, and charging stations throughout. Back Cove boats for sale

Cruisers Yachts

While much of the Cruisers lineup extends beyond the size of a mini, their 39 EC is a boat that can’t be overlooked, and there’s also an argument to be made for including their GLS series in the realm of mini yachts. What all of the boats built by this brand share is an enormous amount of comfortable seating and open cockpits with huge settees and lounges. What’s unusual about the GLS series is that they sacrifice some cabin space to gain a bow cockpit. Yes, this does cut down on sleeping quarters, but it gains a tremendous amount of outdoor seating, and Cruisers expands your luxury level by including goodies like hydraulic lowering swim platforms, swing-down gunwale platforms, and shape-shifting seats that convert into sunpads.  Cruisers boats for sale

Another boat with classic looks and downeast lines is Sabre. Only one of their models, the 38 Salon Express, counts as a mini (they have five larger models up to 58’), but it scores so high in the luxury department there’s no doubt it belongs in this roundup. This is a pod-drive boat powered by inboard diesel Volvo D4 or D6 IPS drives, riding on a high-tech resin-infused hull. Of course, what’s inside that hull is what provides the luxury, and from one item to the next you’ll spot cut-above quality. The horn is a chrome Kahlenberg; helm seats are Stidds; the steering wheel is crafted from real teak; and soles are real teak and holly.  Sabre boats for sale

Can mini yachts really be sporty? Most aren’t, and they pay far more attention to interior design, comfort features, and accommodations than they do to performance. But there are a few brands out there that employ the latest in hull design and construction then match it up with beefy powerplants. The net result? You can enjoy thrill rides and high-speed chases between the bouts of lounging.

Top Sport Mini Yacht Brand Picks

Boston whaler.

Many people would think of Boston Whaler’s boats as fishing machines rather than mini yachts, but models in their Conquest line have everything it takes to be both. And, on top of that, their performance makes them far sportier than most of the competition. The 365 Conquest, for example, can carry a pair of Mercury’s V12 600-hp outboards—the most powerful outboard engines in production today—and it can hit speeds in excess of 50 mph. You want even more speed? Fine. Move up to the 405 Conquest and you can get three of those 600-hp powerhouses, pushing speeds into the 60s.  Boston Whaler boats for sale

Formula has always been known for building performance boats, and their Sun Sport models combine that performance with comfort-laden cabins, wet bars, loungers, and entertainment centers. There’s a wide range of power options but if you rig a 310 SS with twin Mercury 8.2 MAG ECT engines and Bravo III drives, you can look for top-end speeds in the upper-50s.  Formula boats for sale

What makes a mini yacht great for the family? Well, truth be told any boat is apt to provide lots of family fun. But some are better for the job than others. If you want to cruise with the entire family aboard, in addition to the usual luxury touches, you’ll probably want to have separate sleeping accommodations for kids and adults, a swim platform with easy access to the water, and a good entertainment system aboard.

Top Family Mini Yacht Brand Picks

Pursuit has a well-deserved reputation for building rather luxurious boats and their Offshore models could have landed in a different category in this roundup, but they get the nod as a great family mini yacht for two reasons: first, because the mid-cabin berth means you get multiple sleeping spaces belowdecks, and second, because of this brand’s fishy attitude. Many kids love to fish and many parents love the bonding time, so angling households will find these boats ideal.  Pursuit boats for sale

Pursuit OS 385

Regal’s express cruiser lineup has a couple of models that count as mini yachts, and these are eminently family-friendly. Highlights include a folding “UltraLounge” in the cockpit that converts from forward-facing lounger to aft-facing lounger to sunpad, an optional “PowerPlatform” swim step that lowers from the swim platform at the press of a button, and surprisingly spacious cabins with separate mid-cabin and forward berths.  Regal boats for sale

Regal 33 Express

Regal 33 Express. Regal photo

Sea Ray boats have always been known for being ideal family fun machines, and while most of their lineup is smaller than we’d designate as a mini yacht, the Sundancer line makes the grade. (The SLX line hits the sizing right, too, but cabin space is much more limited). From a family angle, we love the triple-wide bow seating integrated into a cockpit shallow enough for cabin space underneath but deep enough for kids to safely ride up front; the superior snackability of the wet bar with outdoor grill and refrigerator; and the mid-cabin berths in addition to forward berths so both the kids and the adults have their own space.  Sea Ray boats for sale

Sea Ray Sundancer 320

Sea Ray Sundancer 320. Sea Ray photo

Choosing among the best mini yacht brands is no small task, and choosing a specific model is even tougher. On top of that, you need to decide which type of mini yacht will make you and your family happiest. Then, there’s the question of cost: how much is a yacht , and is your budget appropriate for the smallest, least expensive options, or for larger ones? There’s only one way to answer these questions (and all the other ones bouncing around in your head right now), and that’s to take your time and check out all your options. Carefully. When you’re ready to make a decision, you’ll know it—from the first moment you step aboard.

Popular interior styles for yacht furnishing

When it comes to interior styles for yacht furnishing, there are a few popular options that exude luxury and sophistication. One classic style is the nautical theme, featuring navy blues, whites, and touches of gold or brass accents to create a timeless maritime ambiance.

For those seeking a more modern look, contemporary design with clean lines and neutral colors like grey or beige can provide a sleek and elegant aesthetic onboard. Incorporating state-of-the-art technology seamlessly into the design can elevate the overall experience.

Alternatively, an eclectic style mixing different textures, patterns, and colors can add personality and vibrancy to the space. Think bold artwork pieces paired with plush velvet furnishings for a stylish yet cozy atmosphere that feels like home away from home on the open seas.

No matter which style you choose for your yacht furnishing, creating a harmonious blend of comfort, functionality, and aesthetics is key to achieving a truly luxurious onboard experience.

How to design the perfect layout for your yacht

Designing the perfect layout for your luxury yacht is a crucial step in creating a comfortable and functional space that reflects your personal style. Start by considering the flow of the space – ensure there is enough room to move around freely without feeling cramped.

Think about the purpose of each area on the yacht – from dining and lounging to sleeping quarters and entertainment spaces. Each area should serve its own unique function while seamlessly connecting with the rest of the layout.

Utilize natural light to create an open and airy feel onboard. Large windows, skylights, or even glass floors can bring in plenty of sunlight and offer stunning views of the surrounding waters.

Consider incorporating versatile furniture pieces that can easily transform to suit different needs throughout the day. Opt for sleek designs that maximize space without compromising on style.

Lastly, don’t forget about outdoor areas! Designing a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces will enhance your overall yachting experience as you enjoy breathtaking sunsets or dine al fresco under the stars.

Clever storage solutions for yachts

When it comes to designing the interior of a luxury yacht, clever storage solutions are key. With limited space on board, maximizing every inch is essential for both functionality and aesthetics.

One smart storage solution often seen in yachts is utilizing hidden compartments beneath seating areas or within walls. This not only saves space but also maintains a clean and uncluttered look throughout the yacht.

Another popular option is incorporating multi-functional furniture pieces that serve dual purposes, such as a coffee table with built-in storage or a bed frame with drawers underneath. These innovative designs help minimize clutter while adding practicality to the living spaces.

Vertical storage solutions like tall cabinets or shelving units can also make use of otherwise wasted space, providing ample room for storing belongings without sacrificing floor space.

Overall, integrating these clever storage solutions into the design of a yacht ensures that everything has its place, creating a harmonious and organized environment for passengers to enjoy their time at sea.

Luxury yacht interior design is truly an art form that combines creativity, functionality, and elegance. From incorporating the latest trends to selecting the perfect materials and styles, designing the interior of a yacht requires careful planning and attention to detail.

By following top trends in luxury yacht interior design, creating a layout that maximizes space, choosing high-quality materials and stylish designs, as well as implementing clever storage solutions, you can transform your yacht into a luxurious floating oasis.

Whether you prefer a modern minimalist look or a classic nautical style, there are endless possibilities when it comes to designing your yacht’s interior. So let your imagination run wild and create a space that reflects your personal taste and lifestyle while enjoying the ultimate luxury on the open seas.

Monaco Yacht Show: 7 Yacht Interiors That Will Steal the Show

Room on yacht with intricate blue stone flooring and walls

Running from September 28 through October 1, the Monaco Yacht Show is the highlight of the global boat show circuit. This year’s edition promises to deliver plenty of buzzy debuts, headline-making yacht news, and high-design highlights. There are several new additions to this year’s event in Port Hercules including a sustainability hub and a gadget- and gizmo-filled adventure area , packed with new water toys and flashy supercars —it is Monaco , after all.

For denizens of design, the Yacht Design & Innovation Hub is returning for a second year, with presentations, galleries, and exhibits by yacht architects and designers. But, of course, the big boats steal the show. With yacht interiors that range from the classically nautical to the budget-blowing bonkers, these are the superyachts to have on your radar at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show.

Sitting area inside a yacht

An oversized chandelier defines the space in the informal dining room aboard Ahpo .

Lürssen, Ahpo

All eyes will be on the whopping 377-feet Ahpo , by Lürssen, when it debuts this year at the Monaco Yacht Show as the largest yacht in the port. Venice-based exterior and interior designer Nuvolari Lenard added plenty of personality and luxury to the vessel with oversized crystal light features, a hammam made of mosaics in the massive wellness area, and a grand staircase at the center of the yacht, crafted to resemble an olive tree.

Interiors of main deck lounge on a yacht

Blue accents channel the traditional nautical aesthetic.

Feadship, Rock.It

The 198-foot Rock.It is not short on style: Gleaming wood panels with creamy white leather inlays feature throughout; glowing white onyx contrasts with rich black Portoro marble; and the well-dressed owner’s cabin rivals the top suite of an old-world European hotel with a warm wood study and bathroom with a claw-footed tub. The refined design can be attributed to the Netherlands with Dutch shipyard Feadship behind the build and Dutch design studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design taking on the interiors.

Bar and seating area on a yacht

Modern and laid-back, Come Together is effortlessly cool.

Amels, Come Together

Built in the Netherlands by Amels with interiors by London-based Winch Design, the 197-foot Come Together has soft and laid-back beach-y vibes with a dose of Southern California cool. Elements like bleached oaks, woven linen fabrics, cabinetry with natural coconut shell, and hair-on-hide leathers all unite to bring the natural world aboard this chic ship.

Stairs leading down to a seating area on a yacht

Crisp and clean, the interiors of Be Cool are to-the-point in a refreshing way.

Swan 98, Be Cool

There’s a fleet of around a dozen large sailing yachts on display at this year’s yacht show in the dedicated Sailing Yacht Area. One of the most notable new launches of the bunch is Swan 98 Be Cool  by Finnish shipyard Nautor’s Swan. The clean and crisp interior hull design by Genovese architect Misa Poggi embraces graceful nautical style and Scandinavian practicality with navy linen and cotton fabrics, dark oak, and handsome tobacco-hued leather.

Kokomo ’s interiors will speak to the minimalist.

Sunreef, Kokomo

Packed with cutting-edge green tech and ultralight solar panels, Sunreef’s newest catamaran  Eco 80 will be making waves at this year’s show. However, it’s the interiors of the 80-foot Kokomo (done in-house by Sunreef) that will impress the design lovers. Outfitted in cool and calm shades of white with rattan finishes and eucalyptus veneers, Kokomo is both on-trend and a complete classic.

Seating room with glassbottomed pool above it.

The glass-bottom pool is a highlight of the yacht.

Abeking & Rasmussen, B2

One of the largest vessels currently on the market, the 281-foot B2 by German yard Abeking & Rasmussen, will be showing off an ultra-chic over-$4-million interior refit just completed in July at this year’s show. Sprawling out over five decks, Winch Design has curated a serene floating sanctuary of indoor-outdoor living, the highlight of which is the main deck’s glass-bottom pool, stationed above the light-filled beach club lounge with fold-down balconies that extend the living space right to the water’s edge.

Seating area on a yacht

With dark wood, tubular steel accents, and black furnishings, the interiors of State of Grace could be described as a nautical take on the Bauhaus aesthetic.

Perini Navi, State of Grace

State of Grace by Italy’s Perini Navi is a gorgeous high-performance sailing sloop. It’s picture-perfect with polished teak decks, an ocean-blue hull, and billowing white sails. Inside is a study in midcentury-modern elegance with a split-level saloon and a spacious and full-beam owner’s suite with a hammam shower.

Coral Ocean superyacht interiors, designed by Sabrina Monte-Carlo

What drives and inspires superyacht interior specialists and what trends are coming?

Three superyacht interiors specialists tell Belle Rice where they find their creativity, and the trends they're predicting...

Interior design trends can come and go faster than a Williams Turbojet, and what can seem innovative and chic one moment can quickly become de rigueur. Luckily for the superyacht industry, the very best in marine architects and interiors specialists lead the pack in cleverly incorporating design trends in ways that ensure rooms stay stylish and timeless for years, not for just the next fleeting summer on the Med.

So, what drives and inspires the designers who create the chicest, most innovative spaces? It’s all about the clients, says Cana Gökhan, co-founder at Red Yacht Design . “Understanding [their] personalities, tastes, lifestyles and cultural backgrounds is crucial. Our main inspiration comes from nature and the sea, and we always use colours and textures, in particular, to create a harmonious atmosphere on board.”

For Vripack ’s Marnix Hoekstra in the Netherlands, inspiration is found as far from his desk as possible, exploring cities to discover new art. “I really like to step out of the little bubble which is our superyacht and interiors world, and what I’ve found is the best way to do that is to hit the streets. We call it the ‘trend walk’,” he says, “and what we do is go out and discover – London and Amsterdam have great areas where upcoming artists are creating their ideas and art. Typically they don’t have a lot of money to make expensive stuff, but they do have passion and a clear mind and vision as to why they’re making something.”

This gives him and the Vripack team a means to anticipate future trends, he explains. “It allows you to look at the zeitgeist, and then you find that in a couple of years that will extrapolate to the real world and all of a sudden, you see other companies picking [those trends] up in the mainstream.”

Coming from different walks of life and dotted about the globe, designers who specialise in the smartest of interiors all have at least one thing in common: a motivation to create fascinating design. “It’s all about making interiors interesting again, and fighting against bland, predictable looks,” says Manola Ballerio of Sabrina Monte-Carlo , noting with excitement that “rich, saturated, dopamine-inducing colours are back.”

Ultimately, though, you can always go back to basics to make sure you get it right. “It is challenging to consider practicality, function and aesthetics simultaneously in design,” says Gökhan, “and even in the age of all this ostentation, I am always looking for ways to simplify interior design. The concept of simplicity is my most significant source of inspiration.”

Trend alert

Auxiliary rooms.

“While the walk-in wardrobe was the dream room in every residence, we’re seeing a trend of new ‘auxiliary’ rooms, such as a china pantry next to the dining room or kitchen to showcase collectable tableware. Post-Covid-19, games rooms are also making a comeback, and we love a good entertainment room with a bar, pool table or foosball with landscaped wallpapers or great lights.” – Manola Ballerio, Sabrina Monte-Carlo

Sustainability

“A lot of new materials, art and finishes are emerging from the world of sustainability, durability, upcycling and recycling. We use recycled textiles for wallpapers, and on Project Zero we used a leather-like material invented in Germany that is made from beeswax and pine, which has the advantage (over faux leathers that are made from fruit) of smelling like a fresh forest.” – Marnix Hoekstra, Vripack

Deck layouts

“Recently, the front deck has come to the fore; we often see closed or semi-closed uses in this area, but it’s not been very popular until now. Sustainability will always be a critical issue across the industry, and we anticipate seeing more asymmetrical, exciting and beautiful private and open-plan deck layouts in the coming months.” – Cana Gökhan, Red Yacht Design
