Exceptional location. Well designed interior. Wonderful views of the skies and the estuary from all angles.

Top Deck is a great property and it has the best views in Walberswick. Comfortable beds and sofas, excellent kitchen and dining facilities. Situated next to the river and with a view of the sea, we watched the Southwold Sailing Club yachts and cruisers go out of the harbour entrance for their races on the sea. Top Deck has everything you will need for a lovely holiday. I can thoroughly recommend it.

'Top Deck' did not disappoint in any way. The most important feature was the wonderful view of the Blyth, the dunes and the sea. The weather was dry and sunny but if it had been dreary we could still have enjoyed the aspect. We love Cape Cod and couldn't help but make comparisons.....why go all the way to New England when Walberswick is so close?

A Guide to Walberswick in Suffolk, England

Walberswick England - Two Traveling Texans

Walberswick is an adorable little village on the Suffolk Coast in England.  It may not be as popular as nearby Southwold or Aldeburgh , but it might be the relaxing day out that you need.  Spend some time on Walberswick Beach, then see what else the historic village has to offer.  The main street has old shops and pretty cottages with picture perfect gardens.  Don’t miss St. Andrews where you can see ruins along with a working church.

In this Walberswick guide, I will tell you more about the things to do in Walberswick and how to get there.

Relax on Walberswick Beach

Give walberswick crabbing a try, visit walberswick church, take a break at walberswick tea room, have a pint or bite at one of the walberswick pubs, take the walberswick ferry to southwold, go on a blyth river trip, how to get to walberswick from london, where to stay in walberswick, is visiting walberswick worth it, expert tips for visiting walberswick, things to do in walberswick.

Most people probably think of the beach when they think of Walberswick because it is on the Suffolk Coast.  That’s the reason I first visited, but I’m glad I explore a bit more.  It has a special charm and interesting history.  Here are my suggestions for what to do when you visit Walberswick.

From the parking lot, you will walk across a bridge and over the dunes to get to the beach. Walberswick Beach is a mix of sand and stones.    There are no brightly colored beach huts, just some brown fisherman’s huts set back from the beach.  You can see the Southwold Lighthouse.

Walberswick Beach - Two Traveling Texans

Walberswick Beach is also a great place to build a sand castle or fly a kite.  It would also be a pretty place for a walk. Dogs are allowed on the beach and we saw several when we were there.

**If you want to be prepared for your day at the beach, be sure to grab our printable beach packing list .

Crabbing in Walberswick is a popular past-time and it is the home of “The British Open Crabbing Championship”. The annual contest is open to all ages and the person catching the largest crab within 90 minutes is the winner!  Hooks and nets are not allowed and the crabs are released back into the sea once the winner is announced.

Bridge filled with people crabbing in Walberswick - Two Traveling Texans

When we were in Walberswick, it was hard to cross the bridge to get to the beach because it was full of people crabbing.  I was impressed that most people had caught at least one.  Apparently, all you need is a bucket , a weighted piece of string , and some bacon for bait! ( Click here to see crabbing kits available on Amazon ).  I am going to have to try it next time.  Before you go crabbing, please watch this video which explains the dos and don’ts of crabbing.

Kids will love crabbing too.  For more child-friendly ideas, check out this list of fun things to do in Suffolk with kids .

The Walberswick Church, St. Andrew’s, is unusual because the church is built on top of the ruins of the previous church.  It’s fascinating to visit because you see the features from the medieval church in the current church. On select days, you are allowed to climb the tower.

The ruins have been recently restored.  You are encouraged to explore the ruins and get a sense of how grand the previous church was before it was taken down.  You can even picnic among the ruins if you like. They also have special events in the ruins and inside the Church.

History of the Churches in Walberswick

There actually have been three churches in Walberswick.  At the time of the Doomsday book (1086 AD), there were two: one on the site where St. Andrew’s currently sits and one about 400 yards away.

During medieval times, the port of Walberswick was thriving, like many other Suffolk villages. The merchant class poured their money into the church.  Money was also coming in from the nearby Blythburgh Monastery .

In 1426 a beautiful 95-foot tall tower was added to the St. Andrew’s church. It became a landmark for sailors traveling along the coast. Then in 1493 the entire church, except for the tower, was rebuilt on a grand scale, to equal the imposing churches at nearby Blythburgh and Southwold. By the turn of the 16th century, St Andrew’s was one of the most impressive parish churches in England.

St. Andrews Church - Walberswick - Two Traveling Texans

Unfortunately for Walberswick, the prosperity of the port did not last. The river began to silt up and the harbor suffered.  When the church lost its income from tithes after the dissolution of the Monasteries the villagers were not able to maintain their grand church.  Church property was also damaged by Puritans.

In 1690 the villagers got permission to pull down the medieval church and build a smaller new church within its ruins. The villagers had to sell lead from the church roof and three of the four bells to raise the money they needed. Thankfully, the villagers were required to spare the striking 15th-century tower, which still stands at the west end of the new church.  The ruins of the medieval building are at the east end.

Inside St. Andrews

The “new” church is well worth exploring in its own right. It is tucked into what was once the south aisle and re-uses the medieval aisle wall. It also retains the large 15th-century porch and quire.  In one of the south windows, fragments of medieval glass have been gathered together to create a mosaic. It reminded me a bit of the window in Winchester Cathedral , but on a smaller scale.  You can also see the damage that the Puritans did on the Font.

Russell in the doorway of the ruins of the old Walberswick Church. - Two Traveling Texans

The Church Ruins

Standing in the ruins, you can imagine the grandeur of the previous church.  Look up at the tower and notice the line showing where the roof once lay. The two rows of windows show that the church was once two stories.  You can still see the checkerboard flushwork on the back on the wall of the current church. Some doorways are still intact too. The floor is all gone and has been replaced with grass.

The Tea Shed is located just a stone’s throw from the village green.  They have a great selection of teas and cakes. You can stop in for a cream tea or a light lunch.  Take advantage of the pretty garden if the weather is warm.

Every village in England needs to have a pub! Walberswick has two.  You can choose from the Anchor or the Bell .  Both pubs look charming.   Russell took me to the Bell because he prefers its atmosphere.  Next time, I will have to try the Anchor.

The Anchor is located close to St. Andrews.  They have a wide range of beers, including Adnams, cider, organic soft drinks and 100 delicious wines.  Their food is sourced locally as much as possible and they feature different specials daily. They have a front terrace perfect for those warm summer days.

The Bell Inn is located on the village green close to the sand dunes (and parking lots).  It’s 600 years old and part of the Adnam’s pub family. This is a traditional English pub with character.  There is plenty of space inside but if it’s a nice day, relax in their large garden. Their food menu also features local specialties

Russell's favorite pub in Walberswick is the Bell Inn. - Pubs in Walberswick - Two Traveling Texans

If you would like to go to Southwold from Walberswick, there is a ferry that can take you on certain days during the summer holiday season and other school holiday times.   I think “ferry” is a bit generous considering it is actually a rowboat that can only hold up to 12 people.  Still, for only £1, it’s not a bad deal. The ferry crosses the River Blyth so it’s not a long ride.

If you rather not go on the ferry, you can also walk to Southwold on the Bailey Footbridge.

The owners of the Walberswick Ferry also run boat trips (select days in the spring and summer) on the River Blyth through Walberswick Nature Reserve – an Area of Outstanding National Beauty.  You will see many different types of birds, and you may see other wildlife or even a seal. Your skipper will also tell you about the changing coastline and the fishing industry in Suffolk. Tickets for the boat tours cost £10 for adults and £5 for children.

The best way to get to Walberswick is to drive.  From London, it is 117 miles and will take around 2 ½ hours.  There are two “pay and display” parking lots at the end of town. Both are only a short walk to the beach.

Public transportation options are limited.  The best way would be to take a train from London Liverpool Street Station to Darsham and then take a taxi 7 miles to Walberswick.  Once you get to Walberswick, everything is within walking distance. You will need to arrange for a taxi to take you back to the train station.

Note that you will have to switch trains in Ipswich.  The train ride will take around 2 hours. If you do decide to go this route, book your train ticket in advance for the best price.   Click here to check schedules and pricing .

Since we are based in Norwich, it’s easy for us to visit Walberswick as a day trip.  If you want to spend a weekend or longer, you will need a place to stay.  Since it’s a somewhat rural location, an AirBnb might be your best option.

Walberswick is a charming village.  It’s not easy to get to but it is worth a visit.  I went for a relaxing beach and found the village had much more to offer.  I will definitely be back!

Guide to Walberswick

Deriving its name from two Saxon words (Waldbert, the name of a Saxon, and wyc, meaning shelter or harbour), Walberswick has been a settlement on the Suffolk coast since the early Middle Ages.

Now a tourist hotspot for crabbing, birdwatchers and those who enjoy a serene seaside holiday, the village is one of Suffolk’s gems, scattered with pastel-coloured cottages, picture-postcard landscapes and welcoming pubs.

Keep scrolling to read our handy guide to the top things to do in Walberswick or tap the button below to find your holiday home-away-from-home.

About the village

Pubs and restaurants in walberswick, walberswick beach, southwold to walberswick ferry, walberswick crabbing, walberswick shops, walberswick walks.

Looking up at a metal emblem on a blue sky day. The sign has a boat on it and it says Walberswick

Walberswick is an English seaside dream, a beautiful spot on the unspoilt Suffolk coast full of traditional fun and excitement. Couples looking for a romantic break away, families with young children, and groups of friends will all find something pleasing in this coastal village that’s quieter than neighbouring Southwold.

Find some time to walk through the grassy dunes down to the sand and shingle beach and marvel at the marsh and heathland all around you. Much of this makes up a nature reserve comprising 1,000 acres that’s home to otters, deer and a whole host of birds.

Artists have historically fallen in love with the stunning landscape here with Philip Wilson Steer and Charles Rennie Mackintosh amongst the most notable visitors. Today, celebrities still take up residence in the village, including Libby Purves and Richard Curtis.

You’ll not have trouble getting a bite to eat or a decent drink when visiting. From delightful tea rooms and delis to dog-friendly pubs and some of the best fish and chips you’re likely to find, Walberswick’s restaurants and taverns have it all.

The Bell Inn

A pint of ale on a bar in a traditional pub and a photo of a fish pie with a scoop taken out

The good thing about Walberswick (well, one of them) is that due to its size, you’ll be close to everything you need. The Bell Inn sits on the village green yet it’s only moments from the rolling sand dunes too.

The inside of this 600-year-old pub is cosy and traditional, meaning you can find an alcove or a little nook to enjoy a quiet moment. However, if you’re feeling sociable and the weather’s fine, the beer garden is a lovely option at this Walberswick pub.

  • Open:  Monday to Sunday from 11am
  • Dog friendly:  Yes
  • Why not try:  The Bell’s classic fish pie, topped with cheesy mash and served with seasonal greens
  • Stay nearby:  Ferry Knoll | Sleeps 6 + 1 dog

A group of friends toast their pints of beer on an outside terrace

When a pub is taken over by owners who previously received the accolade of running the best pub in Britain for two years running, you know they're going to do things right. The Anchor in Walberswick, an Arts and Crafts building, is an award-winning pub sitting in an acre of garden that overlooks the dunes and beach huts.

Making sure that they invest in quality local produce (including West Mersea oysters, smoked fish from Lowestoft, Blythburgh pork, beef from Westleton, and vegetables from their own allotment), the proprietors of The Anchor pride themselves on running a village local that cares. In fact, they often offer up their 18 th -century barn (which has a 30-person cinema, no less) for charity fundraisers and art exhibitions.

  • Open:  Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm
  • Dog friendly:  Yes, there’s a hose to wash muddy paws, and dogs are welcome in the bar, family room and the outdoor terrace
  • Why not try:  West Mersea rock oysters, sherry and shallot vinegar
  • Stay nearby:  Lane End | Sleeps 4

There are a couple of caveats with this foodie entry that you need to be aware of. Firstly, it’s technically in Southwold across the river (more on that in a moment). Secondly and more importantly, Mrs T’s suffered a devastating fire recently rendering it inoperational for the time being. However, so good are the fish and chips here that we simply had to include it.

It’s said that you cannot visit Walberswick without having fish and chips from Mrs T’s. Founded in 1895, this is among the best fish and chips establishments in the country. Technically on the Southwold side of the River Blyth, you could walk over the bridge across the river to get there and then get the ferry back over when you’re too stuffed to walk.

  • Dog friendly:  Yes, all the tables are outdoors
  • Why not try:  Cod and chips

A montage of images showing the exterior of the Black Dog Deli and some of their homemade food, including pizza, pies, pain au chocolate and quiches

Photo credits: The Black Dog Deli

The Black Dog Deli is more than a deli; it’s four delis located in Walberswick, Halesworth, Wrentham and Yoxford, it’s a wholesaler, it’s an artisan bakery and it’s a pizza company. This award-winning Suffolk producer is another establishment that measures true success by providing its clientele with locally sourced and homemade food and drink. They even produce their own range of frozen meals if you want to pick something up for later on.

Pick up an organic Fairtrade coffee while you browse the fresh bakes in the Filo & Twine Sourdough Club. When you’ve selected your salads, tarts, soups and cakes, settle down in the garden to enjoy everything you’ve purchased … before heading back inside for seconds!

  • Open:  Tuesday to Friday 8.30am – 3pm; Saturday 8.30am – 4pm; Sunday 9am – 3pm
  • Dog friendly:  Yes, dogs are welcome in the shop and the garden
  • Why not try:  A smorgasbord of treats: sourdough bread with local pickles and chutneys, Greek olives, and homemade sausage rolls
  • Stay nearby:  The Dairy | Sleeps 4

The Parish Lantern Tea Room

Floral tea crockery, biscuits and croissants in a tea room

Set beside the village green, the Parish Lantern Tea Room is in a great spot if you have kids and dogs. Let them burn off some energy in the wide-open space, with the kids making the most of the play equipment too, before retiring to the tearoom for some homemade cakes, cream teas and pizzas. There’s even award-winning Suffolk ice cream available if you (or the kids) have room!

Operating as a shop before and after the Second World War, the retail side of things is still going strong and is now run by the McLean family. Browse the jewellery, crafts, books and toys before taking your purchases through to the pretty courtyard garden where the staff will serve you with a smile. The prices here are extremely reasonable too.

  • Open:  Friday to Wednesday 10am – 4pm
  • Dog friendly:  Yes, in the pretty courtyard garden
  • Why not try:  The stonebaked pizza (with vegan and gluten-free options available)
  • Stay nearby:  Vine Cottage | Sleeps 10 + 2 dogs

A special mention should go to Adnams Brewery in Southwold. If you want to create a delightful picnic for a day out, no doubt you’ll be able to find plenty of Adnams options in the shops in Walberswick, or you could hop over the river and take a tour of the brewery itself. In fact, for all things regarding the other side of the River Blyth, read our handy guide to the best things to do in Southwold .

A montage of images showing Walberswick Beach, the pier, the beach huts and the dunes

After crossing the harbour bridge and walking through the grassy dunes, you’ll realise that Walberswick Beach is a wilder affair than some other traditional seaside sands that you may have visited in Suffolk.

This stone and sand beach has the Walberswick Nature Reserve to the north and is a vast windswept stretch that proves popular with dog walkers, swimmers, surfers, kite surfers and canoeists. Please note, if you’re going to go swimming, be careful of very strong currents near the river mouth.

Despite this rugged outlook, there is plenty of parking a short distance away, either on the street or in car parks, one of which has an ice cream van.

  • Dog friendly:  Yes, there are no restrictions in place
  • Lifeguards : Unfortunately, there is no lifeguard cover
  • Facilities:  The nearest toilets are on the village green; ice cream van in Walberswick Common Car Park; cafes, pubs and shops nearby

A section of the River Blyth where the ferry crosses. There is a small blue boat moored up.

If you’re struggling to think of things to do in Walberswick, what better way is there to clear your mind and get focussed than getting out on the water? True, the crossing may be short and the ferry is, in fact, a row boat carrying a maximum of 12 passengers, but still, it’s nice to be out in the harbour by the lapping waves.

The ferry across the River Blyth is run by a fifth-generation rower who will take you over to Southwold or Walberswick whenever you turn up – no need to book! The service generally runs from April to the end of October 10am – 5pm (depending on weather conditions and tides) and will save you a walk around the river and over the bridge.

  • Price: Adults £2, children £1, under 5s free – prices are for a single crossing and only cash is accepted
  • Dog friendly: Yes, dogs are welcome
  • Other useful info: Buggies and pushchairs are welcome

A crab dangles as it clutches onto some bait. Some reeds and water are in the background.

Crabbing in Walberswick is such a big deal that up until a few years ago, the British Crabbing Championships were held in the village. This hugely popular event ran from 1981 to 2010 and even though the official competition stays submerged, the activity itself remains as common as it ever was and is still one of the best things to do in Suffolk .

Watch as scores of people, both young and old, line the harbour wall to take part in this perfect summer pursuit. If the harbour is a little busy, there are plenty of bridges and creeks to find in Walberswick where you can dangle your line. You could even take the ferry over to Southwold and try your luck there. Be warned though, the locals of the two towns can become very competitive crustacean chasers, so make sure you don’t get caught in the middle of a crab cold war!

Crabbing is a fairly inexpensive activity that the kids will love, just be aware of the following titbits of advice:

  • Use a plastic bucket as metal ones can become too hot for the crabs
  • Fill the bucket with seawater, seaweed and some pebbles to imitate the crab’s habitat
  • Don’t keep any marine life in your bucket for too long, and return them to the sea where you found them

A woman paints some pottery. There's another image of pottery and one of some jewellery.

The offering of shops in Walberswick isn’t likely to be the kind of place that would please Rachel in the early seasons of Friends or Carrie Bradshaw and her chums, but the quaint offering of shops that are scattered along the idyllic high street is enough to while away an afternoon.

We say high street, but in reality, it’s little more than a pleasant track that includes a gift shop, a deli, an ice cream shop and a gallery.

Head to Seaview Gallery Walberswick to browse and buy pieces by local artists. This summer pop-up shop showcases paintings, prints, sculptures and pottery. The Parish Lantern shop has been mentioned further up and you can stop by here to pick up all kinds of quality crafts and gifts. The East of England Co-op Foodstore is perfect for picking up those last-minute essentials before heading back to your holiday home (larger supermarkets can be found in Southwold, Beccles and Lowestoft).

For traditional gifts and seaside trinkets, visit The Little Wooden Hut , a seasonal gift shop by the beach, selling everything you’ll need for a day of sandcastle building and crabbing.

There are a number of walks to try in and around Walberswick, taking in views over to Southwold to the north, or the Suffolk Coast and Heaths AONB to the south. Due to the popularity of Southwold and the beauty of the AONB, we have chosen to focus on just two walks that make the most of these two hotspots.

Walberswick wander

In one picture, someone walks over a small bridge in Walberswick. The other image shows the derelict windmill.

This 3-mile-long, relatively easy walk will take you along flat paths and tracks, but it also involves a little bit of public highway walking so we’d advise wearing some high-vis clothing if possible. You’ll start on the village green and walk across the common, heading down towards the river and Southwold.

Follow the route of the former Southwold Light Railway and you’ll see the abandoned windmill across the reedbed – look out for otters around here too. Cross the Bailey Bridge over the river and walk back along the banks of the Blyth passing the boat yards and fisherman’s sheds on the way.

Approach the harbour and use the ferry to get back over the river and make your way back to the village centre of Walberswick.

Marshes, coast and forest

Bluebells in Dunwich Forest, a boat moored on Dunwich Beach, and a bittern clutching a reed.

If you’re in need of a longer, more exciting stroll, choose this 7-mile ramble which follows paths and tracks that can get muddy and waterlogged. Again, start on the village green and make your way south towards the Suffolk Coast Path. Follow the path alongside the River Dunwich which will be on your left and traverse the marshes, spotting the neglected windpump as you go.

The AONB covers roughly 155 square miles of wetlands, heathland and beach, and it’s at these marshes that you might spot a bittern creeping through the water. Continue to the edge of Dunwich Forest and follow the track with the forest on your right and Dingle Marshes on your left.

From Dunwich, you can cross onto the beach and walk back along to Walberswick.

Did you know?

Dunwich, the lost city of England, used to be the capital of the Kingdom of the Eastern Angles.

We will expect payment of the balance owing by BACS on the following day, any payment not met within five working days will result in the forfeiture of the deposit paid.

16.          AT FAULT (A.F.) LOTS

Certain lots are catalogued at fault (A.F.), damaged, restored etc., however the absence of any such notice does not imply that the piece is free from defects, nor does it indicate that other defects are not also present. Mention is not made of breakage, cracks, chips or any damage which can be noted by careful inspection, therefore those wishing to bid MUST, in all cases, be responsible for determining the condition of the lots themselves, either in person or by request of condition reports or additional detailed photographs.

17.          ESTIMATES

Presale estimates are intended only as a guide for those wishing to bid, are given in good faith and subject to revision.

18.          CONDITION REPORTS

Clarke and Simpson are unable to guarantee that requests for Condition Reports/images received will be responded to. Clarke and Simpson are happy to give a Condition Report where possible on the physical condition of goods, this will be provided on behalf of the vendor on the understanding that Clarke and Simpson are not entering into a contract with you in respect of the Condition Report and accordingly does not assume responsibility to you in respect of it. All lots are available for your own inspection or for inspection by an expert instructed by you, therefore these Condition Reports are for guidance only and all lots are sold “as found”. Condition Reports do not form part of a contract.

19.          COMMISSION BIDS

The auctioneers will be pleased to execute bids for those unable to attend the sale. Lots will be purchased at the lowest bid the room bidding, internet bidding or any reserves will allow. In the event of identical bids, the earliest bid received will take precedence.  There must always be a maximum limit indicated. Buy or unlimited bids will not be accepted. Commission bids placed by telephone are accepted at the client’s risk.  We urge our clients to place such bids before the start of the sale. All such commissions are left entirely at the client’s risk.

20.          VALUE ADDED TAX

The symbol * or V after any lot number or description indicates that Value Added Tax is payable by the buyer on the hammer price.

21.          AUCTIONEERS MARGIN SCHEME

The Auctioneers Margin Scheme allows auctioneers to sell items without VAT on the hammer price. Under the margin scheme an amount equivalent to VAT at the current rate is added to the buyer’s premium. This amount cannot be refunded. The VAT element will not be shown separately on the buyer’s invoice. This VAT is not recoverable as Input Tax. We do not allow buyers to opt out of the margin scheme.

22.          ATTRIBUTION OF PICTURES AND DRAWINGS

Every effort is made to ensure the accuracy of any statements as to authorship, attribution, origin, date, age, provenance and condition of any lot whether or not such statement forms part of the description of any such lot. Whether any such statement is made orally or in the catalogue it is an expression of opinion and not to be taken as being or implying any warranties or representations of facts by the auctioneers. Each buyer by making a bid for a lot acknowledges that he has satisfied himself fully as to the attribution and condition of the lot.  The following is for guidance only and does not form part of a contract.

A.   The forename (s) (or full stops where not known) and surname of an artist indicates in our opinion a work by the artist.

B.    The initials of the forename (s) and the surname of the artist indicates in our opinion a work of the period of the artist which may be wholly or in part his work.

C.   The surname of the artist indicates in our opinion a work of the school or by one of the followers of the artist or in his style and of uncertain date.

D.   Signed, Dated, Inscribed indicated in our opinion work signed/dated/inscribed by the artist.

E.    Bears signature indicates in our opinion that this is not the signature of the artist.

F.    Attributed to may be used to denote a traditional attribution based on style.

G.    Manner of indicates in our opinion a work executed in the artist/craftman’s style but of a later date.

H.   After indicates in our opinion a copy (of any date) of work of an artist or craftsman.

The addition of a question mark after any of the cataloguing terms above indicates an element of doubt.

23.          DROIT DE SUITE ROYALTY CHARGES

All United Kingdom Art Market professionals (which includes auctioneers) are required to collect a royalty payment for all qualifying Works of Art. This applies to living artists and those who have died in the last 70 years.  This payment is calculated on qualifying Works of Art which are sold for a hammer price more than the UK sterling equivalent of €1,000 (the UK sterling equivalent will fluctuate in line with prevailing interest rates calculated by the Artist’s Resale Right Service Hub, based on the European Central Bank reference rate published at 2.15pm on the day of the sale, and can be found on www.dacs.org.uk).

All items in this catalogue that are marked “ü” are potentially qualifying items, and the royalty charge will apply if the hammer price is more than UK sterling equivalent of €1,000.  The royalty charge will be added to purchase invoices and must be paid before items can be cleared. All royalty charges are paid to the design and Artists Copyright Society (DACS) by the auctioneers and no handling costs or additional fees with respect to these charges will be retained by the auctioneer.  This charge may also be applicable to lots not marked “ü” and buyers must satisfy themselves.

The royalty charge for qualifying items which achieve a hammer price of more than the UK sterling equivalent of €1,000, but less than the UK sterling equivalent of €50,000 is 4%. For qualifying items that sell for more than the UK equivalent of €50,000 a sliding scale of royalty charges will apply.  For a complete list of the royalty charges and threshold levels please refer to www.dacs.org.uk.  There is no VAT payable on this royalty charge.

24.          ENDANGERED SPECIES

Lots sold at auction may include endangered or other species of wildlife and plant life, for example, tortoiseshell, crocodile skin, whale bone, ebony or rosewood.  Some countries restrict or prohibit import or export of objects containing these materials or require a licence/permit for their movement (e.g. a CITES Licence).  Prior to bidding on a lot which may include these or similar materials, buyers must familiarise themselves with the relevant laws and regulations regarding their movement.

25.          JEWELLERY

Gemstones are often treated to enhance colour and improve appearance.  They may be heated or treated by oil or resin to intensify the colour and transparency.  Other techniques like dying, irradiation, coating and impregnation can also be used.  Buyers must be aware that unless the catalogue specifically states otherwise then the stone is natural, buyers must assume that any treatment may not be permanent, and that special care may be needed in the future.

26.          EXPORT

Any lot purchased at auction may be subject to export restrictions and may require a licence for export out of the United Kingdom.  The buyer is responsible for obtaining any licences that may be required (including any licence that may be required for import into the destination country) – any denial of such a licence will not be grounds for the buyer to cancel the purchase.

27.          THIRD PARTY LIABILITY

All members of the public on Clarke and Simpson Auctions Ltd. premises are there at their own risk and must note the layout of the buildings and site and the appropriate security arrangements.  Accordingly, neither the Auctioneer nor its employees or agents shall incur liability for death or personal injury (except as required by law) or similarly for the safety or persons visiting the premises.

28.          CONSIGNMENT

All vendors will have received a copy of Clarke & Simpson Auctions Terms regarding consignment of lots for sale and these Terms and Conditions should be read in accordance with this consignment documentation.

Leapher Yachts NAVIX50

“The NAVIX50 embodies our philosophy of creating vessels that excel in any environment,” Leapher CEO Yiannis Andriotis said in a statement. “From the Drake Passage to the coast of St. Tropez, this yacht redefines what’s possible in the sub-500GT category.”

The spacious interior includes six generous cabins, with the option for a seventh cabin or expanded skylounge. The guest cabin on the main deck can also be turned into a gym, wellness area, or an expanded owner’s suite. All guest cabins are equipped with king-size beds, while the owner’s suite is fitted with a plush super king-size bed. The yacht is also home to six crew cabins that can sleep up to 11.

The exterior decks are replete with alfresco dining areas, lounges, and sunbeds. The aft deck is arguably the standout, with two folding terraces, a large, 18-foot pool, a sprawling sunbathing area, a swim platform, and not one but two wet bars. At the opposite end, the foredeck doubles as a garage for two tenders.

Leapher Yachts NAVIX50

“It [the NAVIX50] offers unparalleled versatility and luxury while maintaining an attractive value proposition for seasoned owners,” added Andriotis.

Leapher operates on a site formerly owned by cruise ship producer De Hoop that closed at the height of the pandemic. The yard is set to deliver the first NAVIX60 later this month. Christened Horizon, the 198-foot explorer will be on display at the Monaco Yacht Show from September 25 to 28.
