Malaysia Yacht Charter - Langkawi Yacht Charter View of tropical island Langkawi in Malaysia, covered with tropical forests. Aerial view on the bay, marina and archipelago of smaller islands in Andaman sea

The 99+ islands that make up the Langkawi archipelago of the northwest coast of Malaysia present the perfect opportunity to explore.

The colorful islands of Malaysia’s archipelago offer nothing less than serene beauty and the mystery of isolation. A luxury yacht charter is an ideal way to experience the stunning terrains of the hundreds of islands off the northeast coast of Malaysia. While these breathtaking chains offer many outdoor excursions like diving and hiking, Malaysia’s fresh, exotic gastronomy will have you yearning for a food tour to enjoy a taste of it all.

Lush landscapes and tropical waters

Best explored by yacht, these tropical waters are surrounded by white, sandy shores and swaying coconut trees, a truly picturesque site that you’ll have to see for yourself. The ultra-modern marina of Telaga Harbor in Langkawi is the perfect place to dock your yacht as you head ashore to immerse yourself in the lush landscapes.

The Langkawi archipelago

The Langkawi archipelago offers 99+ tropical islands, each boasting its own unique character with thick rainforests and mystifying caves to explore. Hike Gunung Mat Cincang and admire the spectacular 360-degree scenery at the summit. A roundtrip hike can take between two to four hours, depending on your speed, to reach the top; for those who have yet to experience it, the views are absolutely worth it. If you’re keener to lay back and relax, the white sand beach of Datai Bay is a secluded pocket of peace at the northwestern end of Langkawi and is also home to the five-star Datai Langkawi Resort.

The islands of Penang and Tioman

You can sail a little further south to Penang, where you will find a paradise of different cuisines and delicacies. You can visit the capital, Georgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, to get a sense of the different cultures, history, and religions that inhabit the island.

The youthful, more active island of Tioman is considered a geological wonder of Southeast Asia. The waters are abundant with coral reefs and marine life, while the island itself is a seamless mix of white-sand beaches and beautiful rainforests. Whether you choose to explore the turquoise waters or roam aimlessly along the shore, Tioman Island offers excitement for all ages, making it a popular site for younger travelers.

Finally, if time allows, you can plan your luxury yacht charter as a “dual-destination” holiday. With its close proximity to Thailand, tack on a detour to the island of Phuket for even more adventure. With your luxury yacht as your floating home base, the possibilities are endless. Whether you want to discover Malaysia with friends or family, a yacht charter in Malaysia is guaranteed to delight.

One of Malaysia’s most compelling attractions for sailors is its geographic diversity. Stretching from the bustling mainland to the secluded islands, each region offers its distinct charm and allure. The crystal-clear waters and the rich biodiversity make for memorable underwater adventures like snorkeling and diving.

Besides the natural charm, Malaysia offers a captivating blend of cultures, with a rich history reflected in its coastal towns and cities. Furthermore, the country’s marina facilities are modern and well-equipped, catering to the needs of all types of sailors. Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a novice, you’ll find the services and support you need to make your sailing experience smooth and enjoyable.

What Choose

Sailing boat or Catamaran, what to sail in Malaysia

When it comes to exploring Malaysia’s waterways, Yachting.Rent offers two fantastic options: the classic sailing boat and the modern catamaran. Each vessel type has its distinct characteristics and advantages, ensuring that we can provide the perfect seafaring adventure for every guest.

A traditional sailing boat is a great choice for those seeking an authentic, intimate sailing experience. Its sleek design and sophisticated rigging system make it a delight to navigate, offering a hands-on experience that truly connects you with the sea. The smaller size of a sailing boat also allows for closer exploration of Malaysia’s many secluded bays and inlets.

On the other hand, a catamaran is a more spacious and stable option, making it an excellent choice for families or larger groups. The twin-hulled design provides a smooth sailing experience and a higher degree of safety in different sea conditions. It also comes with a larger deck and indoor space, allowing for greater comfort and leisure during your trip.

In addition, catamarans usually come equipped with modern amenities such as spacious lounges, fully-equipped kitchens, and private cabins, making them akin to floating luxury villas. The speed and stability of catamarans also make them ideal for covering longer distances, allowing you to explore further into the fascinating corners of Malaysia’s coasts and islands.

Whichever option you choose, Yachting.Rent is dedicated to making your Malaysian sailing journey an unforgettable one. With our exceptional service, experienced crew, and well-maintained fleet, we aim to provide the ultimate sailing experience tailored to your personal preferences and sailing skills. Contact us today to start planning your Malaysian yachting adventure.

Malaysia Yacht Charters

Malaysia yacht charters offer spectacular coastlines and beaches, tropical islands, and crystal clear waters. Malaysia is a beautiful country, and as a peninsula, it’s even more beautiful when explored by boat. Thought of as two countries in one, Malaysia is split down the middle by the South China Sea.

From its bustling larger cities and colonial architecture to exotic tea plantations relaxing islands, longhouse villages, and lush jungles topped with swinging orangutans, granite peaks, and remote tribes, Malaysia is as diverse as it is interesting. To really explore it, start your yacht charter adventure in Kuala Lumpur and wind through its impressive high rises. Go to Petaling Street to experience the Malaysian version of “Chinatown,” and see the limestone caves and Hindu temples of the Batu Caves. If you’re more active, visit Mulu. It’s filled with challenging jungle hikes, magnificent World Heritage caves like the Pinnacles, ‘Head Hunters’ hiking trail, countless adventure caves, interesting wildlife, and more.

Yacht Charter Langkawi

The Langkawi archipelago – which is comprised of dozens of dazzling islands – is one of Malaysia’s most revered charter destinations. Known for its aquamarine waters and postcard-worthy white-sand beaches, these beautiful islands offer a world of possibilities for charter guests.

Your adventure might include a stop at the Underwater World Langkawi, an awe-inspiring, family-friendly aquarium, or a ride on the Pantai Kok Cable Car. Of course, many charter guests in Langkawi go for the beaches: Powder-fine white sands, soaked in sun, Langkawi’s beaches offer the chance to work on your tan in one of the most tranquil environs on Earth.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Malaysia?

There are numerous yachts available for charter in Malaysia, including motor yachts, sailing yachts and catamarans, and you’ll find yachts to accommodate nearly any budget. If you prefer a luxury crewed motor yacht, weekly costs start at $50,000 for a motor yacht with a modest crew and accommodations for up to six guests.

Luxury superyachts in Malaysia – which can accommodate up to 10-12 guests – tend to range in price from $100,000 to $500,000 per week. Sailing yachts and catamarans have similar costs, but because fuel use is limited, sailing vessels tend to have lower weekly rates. Ultimately, estimating the cost of a yacht rental comes down to factors like: The size of the yacht, how new the yacht is, the yacht’s amenities, and your itinerary.

Malaysia Yacht Charters – What to See & Do

Sabah Malaysia

Try the local cuisine

Make sure you take the time to try the food. Malaysia is a mecca of delicious, local cuisine: such as Chinese-Malay ‘Nonya’ fare, Indian curries, Chinese buffets, Malay food stalls, Dayak, and event some Western-style food thrown in for good measure. For a real treat, eat along Jala Alor. It’s one of Kuala Lumpur’s most famous food streets.

Malaysia has beautiful beaches

Malaysia is known for its enchanting beaches – and you will see plenty of them on your crewed Malaysia yacht charter. One of the most popular is Redang, a secluded, small island paradise – just off the east coast of Malaysia – where sea turtles lay eggs and swim freely. Langkawi and the Perhentian Islands are equally calm but attract slightly more visitors; making them the perfect place to go for a drink at one of its low-key beach bars.

Malaysia is a cultural gem

Malaysia is a melting pot of Asian cultures, one strongly influenced by China, India, and plenty of other Southeast Asian countries. The capital, George Town, is a UNESCO World Heritage site known for its impressive colonial architecture, classic churches, Buddhist and Hindu temples, and glamorous grand mosques. For something truly different, brave yacht charter guests can visit Snake Temple – a temple that actually houses live, free-roaming snakes.

There are orangutans (and other animals) everywhere

Malaysian wildlife is as diverse as the people the country attracts. In Borneo, orangutans freely hang from trees, while the Tropical Butterfly Farm in Penang boasts 4000 Malaysian butterflies of 120 different species. Throughout the rainforests of Malaysia, visitors will find 200 species of mammals, 600 different bird varieties, 140 species of snakes, 80 types of lizard, 300 species of freshwater fishes, and thousands of insects.

Adventurous charter guests will find so much to do there

Malaysia has plenty of activities for those charter guests who crave an outdoor challenge. From snorkeling and scuba diving off Perhentian and Tioman Islands to caving at Turtle Cave, bungee jumping at Sunway Extreme Park, and white water rafting at Kuala Kubu Bharu, Malaysia promises a little something for every type of traveler.

Kek Lok Si is the largest Buddhist temple in all of Southeast Asia

Located on the beautiful island of Penang, this stunning temple features a 30-meter tall statue of Kuan Yin, an important figure in Buddhism. It is the site of some of the largest Chinese New Year celebrations in all of Malaysia, staying open late into the night to keep Penang shining all the way into the new year.

Rent a Luxury Yacht in Malaysia

Malaysia has quickly become one of Southeast Asia’s most popular charter destinations. Visitors have numerous yacht rental options in Malaysia, from luxurious and supremely spacious motor yachts to sporty catamarans.

Luxury motor yachts are popular in the region, offering a chance for spirited island-hopping in Langkawi, while top-of-line catamarans are ideal for snorkeling and diving adventures. All luxury yachts in Malaysia are crewed, meaning you have a chef, crew, and captain to pamper you and your guests, and itineraries are fully customizable. Whether you prefer a tranquil escape, or a lively adventure, a yacht charter in Malaysia offers the best in service, comfort, and privacy.

At The Yacht Engine we're on a mission to make boating more accessible and to make it easier for you to get on the water. We believe boating should be available to everyone, and we can help the boating industry, boat owners, marinas, and everyone who wants to go boating by providing a 21st-century boating marketplace. The Yacht Engine is the best place to find and rent boats of all sorts, from a canal and riverboat across Europe to a sailing boat, motor boat, catamaran across North America, the Mediterranean, Caribbean and further afield, along with some of the world's most impressive superyachts and luxury yacht charters.

Boats or Yachts Available For Rent Or Charter In Malaysia

Where it comes to chartering or renting boats in Malaysia below is a list of the typical types of boats that you can hire on The Yacht Engine with a description of the boat type. If you can't find the individual boat charter you are looking for when you do a search in [location name] it's worthwhile searching nearby locations as your chosen boat type might be available nearby.

When searching a geographical area on The Yacht Engine you can filter by the below boat types. There is also the option to further filter your searches by price, the number of guests, cabins or bathrooms, what year the boat or sailing yacht was launched, the boat length and the boat manufacturer.

Sailing Yacht (Sailboat): From €120/£100/$135 a day up to whatever you can afford, monohull sailing yachts are fun to sail at all points of the wind and an affordable way to get around if your island hopping or finding your own secluded coves or sandy beaches along with longer cruises. Sizes range from those for a couple or small family to a full sized luxury charter yacht.

Catamaran: Luxury catamarans are stable and spacious, with quick sailing performance, and and have been gaining in popularity in recent years. Better for larger groups, they have lots of room for water toys, and are big enough for a little privacy. A catamaran charter is easy and comfortable for novices not used to heeling and are loved by families due to their extra space when compared to a monohull. Typically far more luxurious than a sailboat the larger catamarans have en suite toilets and showers in the staterooms as well as ample entertaining space in the saloon and on deck.

Power Catamaran: These types of boats are relatively new but have also been gaining in popularity as the two hulls keep the boat more stable when compared to a monohull. The wider beam also means more deck space and as they don't have sails or a mast, they have a lot more space on deck than a sailing catamaran rental or monohull. For a luxury catamaran charter, consider taking a crewed catamaran charter sailing vacation with an experienced skipper.

Luxury Yacht: Luxury yacht charters are available for either a sailing yacht (sailboat), catamaran or motorboat and will have a crew and host/hostess on hand to cater for whatever your needs are along with a skipper who will have a detailed knowledge of your cruising area. On a crewed yacht charter of this kind you get to create your own personal itinerary and will have far greater range than on other boats which allows for lots of variety in how you travel and what you do.

Superyacht: A superyacht or sometimes called mega yacht are boats which are least 24 metres (79 feet) in length up to 180 metres (590 feet) and can either be sailing yachts (sailboats) or motorboats. These types of boats are most frequently found in the Med of Caribbean and due to their size they will have a large chartering area and can typically pick you up from whatever location you require rather than you being required to get to a set marina to start your charter. They are fully crewed with professional staff who will cater for your every need along with a skipper who will have extensive knowledge of your chosen cruising areas.

Motorboat: This covers a wide variety of boats from a motor yacht with cabins to a private boat trip for a fishing trip but all of the these are comfortable seagoing boats with a kick of speed should you want to cover a bigger distance on the day.

RIB: Very much day boats for fishing and day cruising, RIBs are a lot of fun for a day afloat. They can be very quick and are great should you be in a town on holiday and fancy seeing the coast or finding secluded sandy beaches to get away from it all.

Skippered Yacht Charter or Bareboat

When it comes to boat hire or yacht charter in Malaysia you typically have two choices - bareboat yacht hire or skippered yacht charter.

When using The Yacht Engine you can filter all boat searches to be with or without skipper depending on what you are looking for and below we cover some of the main points to consider for your boat hire.

Skippered Charter: A skippered yacht charter gives you the advantage of being able to get afloat without having to invest in getting sailing qualifications before hand. For a monohull sailing yacht you will pay €120/£100/$135 plus a day extra for the skipper, as well as their food and a tip at the end.

When you get to a luxury yacht or superyacht charter with crew these prices will increase and costs also depend on where you plan to sail to along with the size and type of boat rental on your sailing holiday.

In some cases skippers will also be the yacht or boat owners (typically day trips) which means they will know all the best secluded beaches to show you the best that the area has to offer with their local knowledge.

For day trips you will often be able to use a skipper as well and prices will vary depending on the type of boat.

Bareboat Yacht Charter: For skilled sailors, a bareboat charter is cheaper and gives more privacy for you and your charter guests. Many sailors prefer to be helming the boat while choosing their own course, and provided you have the knowledge and relevant qualifications you can skipper these boats (typically up to 54 feet/16.5 metres in length) yourself.

Do You Need A Licence To Charter A Yacht In Malaysia

If you are on a gulet or skippered yacht charter you do not need a license to sail a yacht out of Malaysia. This is also the case where you are renting a small motorboat without a cabin for a day trip around the local islands or beaches.

You do need a license if you are on a bareboat yacht charter, here are some examples of sailing qualifications:

International Certificate of Competence: This is issued on request by your European sailing authority and you should automatically qualify with certain national sailing qualifications.

RYA Qualifications: If you have the following qualifications you will be able to take a bareboat charter out of Malaysia, these include Day Skipper (sail or motor endorsement), Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster.

American Sailing Association (ASA): The ASA 104 Bareboat certificate is commonly accepted.

US Sailing: The International Proficiency Certificate is widely accepted and The Bareboat Cruising Certificate is also accepted in many cases.

Frequently asked questions

The main points to consider are what is your budget, have you got the necessary sailing experience and qualifications to manage the boat if it's not going to have a skipper, whom you are taking sailing, where exactly you wish to go and what will the weather be like on the proposed dates of your trip.

You will typically pay 50% up front on booking the yacht hire and the balance on arrival. You will either pay a security deposit with your credit card on departure or can get insurance covering damage in advance. In some cases (such as the recent Covid situation) charter companies may be more flexible but this depends on the individual charter companies themselves.

If you are at sea and in danger, call MAYDAY on VHF Ch16 or ring the coast guard on your phone if you have reception. If you have a mechanical fault and can make it to or are on a mooring you will be able to phone a help line number given by the boat charter company.

You should consider do you have the experience to handle the yacht charter or boat hire before you book and where do you want to go along with what the weather will be like. Bring warm weather and cool weather clothing if it looks like the weather can be cool as well as warm and remember at sea it can be cool on most evenings.

If you want to sail without a skipper then you will need relevant qualifications like RYA Day Skipper/International Certificate of Competence (ICC)/ASA 104 Bareboat certificate or the US Sailing Certificate. For small 'day boats' or if you choose to have a skippered on board your yacht charter you typically don't require licences.

Pulau Langkawi

Pulau langkawi.

yacht charter malaysia

Pulau Langkawi  is a cluster of 99 islands offering the best of many worlds; beautiful beaches, world class infrastructure, mangroves rich in flora and fauna and fascinating legends. Ask anyone on the island about the tragic story of a beautiful young lady named Mahsuri, and you’ll hear a tale of love, jealousy and a curse that was placed upon the island by her for seven generations.

Experience the beautiful countryside and peaceful landscape of paddy fields by taking a leisurely drive around the island. You’ll pass small villages with wooden houses framed by palm trees, and children pedalling their old bicycles on errands. There is no shortage of things to do in Langkawi. Head up the thrilling new cable car to the summit of Mount Mat Cincang, Langkawi’s second highest mountain for an unrivalled view of the entire main island and beyond.

The sprinkling of jade green islands that make up Pulau Payar Marine Park lie just 30km south-east of Langkawi. When you charter a yacht through  Platinum Charters , Pulau Payar would be a must place to visit as this island offers excellent marine life experience. If you’re into scuba diving, the best diving is along the reef system that skirts the south, east and west of Pulau Payar. Boat charters can be organised through Platinum Charters to Tasik Dayang Bunting (Lake of the Pregnant Maiden), Gua Cerita and Gua Langsir and not forgetting the mangroves.

Platinum Charters operates either from Royal Langkawi Yacht Club or Telaga Harbour Marina. We can pick guests from both Marina’s as both of them have great facilities. The Royal Langkawi Yacht Club, the award-winning 200-berth marina is situated on the south-east corner of Langkawi Island. It is located in Kuah, the island’s main town, providing excellent access to duty-free shops and business facilities.

A Monarchy Steeped in History

Malaysian cuisine.

yacht charter malaysia

One of Southeast Asia’s most alluring charter destinations, bountiful Malaysia is well-worth exploring during a luxury charter vacation among family or friends. Part of this genuine mingle of cultures is located on a peninsula in mainland Asia, with the other part on the island of Borneo. The country is blessed with a generous number of islands, islets and sheltered coves that are a splendid charter ground for a high-performance catamaran , elegant mega yacht , swift power boat or classic sailing yacht .

Malaysia is a culturally wealthy nation offering treasures galore for charter guests to explore during their lavish cruise. Gear up for a relaxing holiday in this exotic slice of paradise whose unsurpassed beauty will enchant you on every step of the way. Malaysia is great to visit year-round, although to make the most out of your holiday, it is best to sail around Langkawi from October to March and the island of Borneo from April to October.

Malaysia will be a joy to discover for all history buffs. Before the Age of Discovery and the rise of European colonial powers, the Malaysian peninsula and archipelago were home to a number of powerful empires and sultanates. At one point settled even by Indians, the Malay population continues to transmit glorious Hindu legends from this flourishing period of history.

The first Europeans to have established a colony on these lands were the British who came to power at the end of the 18th century and later shared the region with the Dutch. Malaysia lived a turbulent past, the most recent being World War II leaving the British States weakened by their Japanese opponent and resulting in the monarchy’s independence in the 1950s.

The northernmost mainland state of Malaysia is Kedah situated on the country’s West Coast. Also encompassing the Langkawi archipelago, Kedah boasts fabulous beaches and landmarks to explore during a luxury charter holiday. The village of Kuala Kedah is not located far from Alor Setar, the state’s capital, but it is a pristine alternative to the city’s hustle and bustle. The historical fishing port with a dominant red brick fortress is located at the mouth of the Kedah River and is home to some of the best seafood restaurants in the state.

Sitting on the Andaman Sea northwest of the land border between Malaysia and Thailand is the divine archipelago of Langkawi. Comprised of a hundred islands and islets to discover during your luxury charter vacation, Langkawi is a wonderful gateway to both neighboring Thailand and Malaysia’s West Coast. Sporting impeccably turquoise waters and a lush tropical vegetation, Langkawi is dotted not only with immaculate beaches but also those rimmed with animated waterfront bars and restaurants. There are also a number of luxury resorts serving up the finest local specialties and offering rejuvenating body treatments and massages.

Thanks to yet undiscovered coves, your luxury charter yacht will anchor off many secluded bays and you will explore perfectly azure and crystalline waters where aquatic sports will be a sheer pleasure to indulge in. Arrive in Pentai Cenang, a coastal town home to a few top-notch resorts and a stretching powdery beach rimmed with bustling bars, or choose Tanjung Rhu located on Langkawi island’s northern coast, considered by some as the archipelago’s most awe-inspiring shoreline. With translucent waters, fine white sands, swaying protecting palm trees and an undisturbed land and seascape stretching as far as the eye can see, a stop at Tanjung Rhu beach is quite inevitable.

Guests longing for a bit of urban taste will be pleased to stop by Kuah, Langkawi’s port of entry carpeted with beaches, waterfront promenades, restaurants, cafes, bars, luxury resorts and a number of duty-free boutiques.

Dubbed Malaysia’s historic state, Malacca is the third smallest region of the country. Although of minor importance considering its size, Malacca is of a great cultural and historic significance. Malacca may not sport as many exquisite beaches as the neighboring Kedah, but charter guests will not be disappointed with their time spent in this utopian slice of heaven.

Just a few miles off the coasts of Malacca City sits a quaint island of Pulau Besar, an imperative port of call for a luxury charter catamaran . The island is quite mysterious with many fables and legends lying behind its origin. According to many local storytellers, the island was formed after a heart-broken pregnant widowed princess jumped into the water and floated until her body took the shape of the island. Visit a storied cave believed to have been used as a training spot by ancient warriors, or the giant Split Rock. There are a couple of high-end resorts, a yacht club and plenty of options for water sports fun while activities include beachcombing, picnicking, swimming, snorkeling and hiking, to name but a few.

yacht charter malaysia

Do not be discouraged by the fact that Johor is one of the most developed regions of Malaysia because this state boasts more pristine areas than one could believe. Johor is the direct border state with Singapore so guests are welcome to choose either a more animated charter vacation close to the city or an immaculate holiday sailing around the state’s untouched islets and coves. Johor’s East Coast is lined with a plethora of sandy stretches of land, including Desaru, a 26 kilometer-long beach and resort strip where kayaking, canoeing, water skiing, swimming, snorkeling or diving will be a true delight.

Sailing up North along the mainland’s East Coast, guest will reach Tioman Island, a quaint and rather small retreat lined with eight humble villages, a dense verdant rainforest and vibrant coral reefs, making it a perfect snorkeling and diving spot. The island serves as a government-protected bird sanctuary and nature reserve with species such as frigatebird, macaque, black giant squirrel or slow loris. From hiking through the dense forest, to discovering the island’s breathtaking, immaculate waterfalls, to lounging around on the beach or treating yourself to a rejuvenating massage in an elegant resort, Tioman Island will simply mesmerize you.

Offshore Malaysia has just as many beautiful surprises as does the mainland. One of the two offshore states on the mind-blowing island of Borneo that comprise East Malaysia is Sabah. Borneo is divided between three countries and Sabah is Malaysia’s easternmost state. It is home to a few delightful towns exuding an authentic ambiance mixed with much cosmopolitan flare, as well as remote islets, beaches and coves for a romantic getaway aboard a luxury charter catamaran or mega yacht . Anchor along Mantanani islands off Sabah’s West Coast, an archipelago populated with dugongs, also known as “sea cows”, or Pulau Tiga, the original Survivor island whose geothermal activity created therapeutic and relaxing bubbling mud baths that could easily compete with a rejuvenating spa treatment. Natural hiking trails inland are home to Pulau Tiga’s residents, including macaques, giant monitor lizards, wild boar and hornbill. And if this is not enough, the turquoise waters around Mengalum Island further north abound in dogtooth and yellow fin tuna.

Borneo’s northern tip is idyllic, remote and features untouched beaches and the luxury Kudat Marina for your charter catamaran , mega yacht or power yacht. The town of Kudat is somewhat hypnotic and therefore the more suitable for a perfect charter getaway . Kudat lies on the territory of the Rungus people who carry on their ancient traditions and live in isolation from the modern world. Sail along the northern tip and head southward to the state’s eastern coast to reach a genuine wildlife sanctuary lined with marine and land national parks a plethora of untouched beaches.

With Malaysia’s population made up of three main ethnic groups being the Malays, Chinese and Indians, the nation’s culinary style is well diverse and composed of many different flavors. This rich cuisine is largely based on rice, noodles, poultry, beef, pork, seafood as well as fresh vegetables and fruit, including durian, rambutan, lychee, mango or guava. Coconut milk is a staple ingredient not only for main dishes but also desserts, along with gula melaka (coconut palm sugar) and tropical fruit.

Ready to explore Malaysia with Sunreef Yachts Charter ? This thriving Southeast Asian nation will have you under its spell the moment you set foot ashore while enchanting warm waters will be an ideal playground for your luxury charter catamaran , chic mega yacht , high-performance power boat or classic sailing yacht .

Bareboat sailing vacations

Bareboat sailing vacations

Malaysia is an exotic and interesting country with fantastic  sailing destinations. Travelers are attracted by its mix of culture,  tradition, architecture and natural beauty. While on a yacht charter in  Malaysia you can discover modern cities, pristine beaches and  picturesque nature reserves, colorful traditional markets and ancient  temples.

Due to its geographical location, Malaysia represents a mix of  different cultures including Malay, Chinese, Indian, Eurasian and  insular tribes. Located in the southeastern part of Asia, this country  is divided in two by the South China Sea: the Malay Peninsula and nearby  islands, and the northern part of Borneo.

While the official language of the country is Malay, English is quite  commonly spoken, so you will find communication easy while renting a  boat in Malaysia. Malaysia also has its own English-based creole  language known as Manglish.

Sailing conditions

The climate in Malaysia is mainly equatorial, with noticeable  differences between the eastern and western parts of the country. The  eastern part of the country feels the impact of the marine air masses,  while the western part feels the influence of the continent. Most of the  year the weather is hot with high humidity, with average annual  temperatures around 80 F (27 C). Malaysia has two monsoon seasons, in  the northeast from November to March, and in the southwest from May to  September. The best time for a sailing vacation in eastern Malaysia is  from May to September, and in the western part of the country, from  November to April.

Langkawi boat rentals

Langkawi boat rentals

The main Malaysia yacht charter base is located in Langkawi,  with excellent sailing close to the border of Thailand and waters of the  surrounding islands. Located in the northwest part of Malaysia,  Langkawi boat rentals offer sailors an ideal starting point from which  they can explore local treasures and natural wonders.

The most enjoyable sailing in Langkawi is during the dry season  (November to April). We recommend avoiding other times of the year due  to strong winds and high humidity.

Rent a Yacht Charter in Malaysia with Sailo!

There’s magic everywhere you look when sailing in Malaysia ! This stunning nation has enough breathtaking beauty, thrilling adventures, and hidden gems for every traveler, whether you’re taking your first trip to Southeast Asia or your fiftieth. This yachting paradise has a rich culture, stunning scenery, gorgeous waters, and memorable experiences everywhere you look - and a trip to this amazing place isn’t complete without a day spent sailing.

Finding a yacht rental in Malaysia on Sailo

Sailo makes it easy and convenient to find a boat charter for your trip to Southeast Asia. We offer a variety of daily yacht rentals, captain included, so you can easily charter a yacht for two, four, six, or eight hours at a time, depending on the activities you plan to do while sailing. You can search by boat type ( catamarans and motor boats ), price, party size, travel dates, and more in order to narrow your results and find the perfect rental for your upcoming vacation.

Also keep in mind that some of the most affordable boat rentals can be found right here on Sailo. So if you’re new to sailing and you’re planning a trip to this amazing country, why not add on a yacht rental in Malaysia without going over your vacation budget? What a great way to try out sailing in Southeast Asia !

Sailing the Malay Peninsula and Borneo Island

Given the climate and protected waters, it’s very common for travelers and locals alike to sail year-round in this part of the world. The areas around the country are safe for sailing, so even beginners or those who haven’t spent much time in the water would feel comfortable on a boat.

Also remember that because this gorgeous boating destination is so close to the Equator, the country’s climate is typically divided into a wet season and a dry season. You are still more than welcome to visit no matter the time of year, but you’ll want to monitor the forecast and keep the weather in mind when planning to book a yacht rental for your trip, as you’d likely not want to be sailing in the rain. Monsoons would have the biggest effect on your vacation, if one were to unexpectedly occur during your trip, so look up the average weather for your sailing dates and be sure to take this into account when planning.

What to do in Malaysia

There are so many sites to discover while sailing the beautiful Malay Peninsula, so whether you’re looking for adventure or wanting a relaxing sailing getaway, there’s plenty to do at sea here. The luxuriant islands are best explored by boat, so rent your yacht in Malaysia and sail around the beautiful Perhentian Islands, where you can snorkel and swim, or just take in the gorgeous scenery by relaxing on shore. We also suggest just taking a few hours to sail around sunrise or sunset to truly see the beauty of this stunning country - a sail to Penang Island would be a great way to relax and unwind away from the hustle and bustle of the capital.

Do not forget that you can also explore the unforgettable gem of Borneo on a yacht rental from Malaysia - it’s definitely worth a visit if you love seeing wildlife, since it’s famous for the Orangutans!

There’s even more to do on land that you’ll want to keep returning to this country again and again. Of course you have to spend some time exploring Penang (also known as Georgetown), with its amazing culinary offerings and rich history. We also suggest the island of Langkawi, where you can enjoy some fantastic hiking through the jungle and catch a glimpse of unique animal and plant life that you can’t see anywhere else.

Nearby locations to explore

If you’re visiting Malaysia and you’re looking for other ways to extend your trip so you can tour more of Southeast Asia, we suggest looking into boat charters for sailing in Singapore , Thailand sailing , Indonesia sailing , or the sailing in Philippines . You can’t go wrong no matter where you visit, and Sailo has the perfect yacht rentals for you in each of these destinations.

Your yacht rental in Malaysia is waiting for you! Search for your perfect charter on Sailo and head to paradise!

YACHT CHARTERS AND RENTALS IN MALAYSIA

Well known for it's natural beauty, mountains and rainforests - Malaysia is also a great sailing destination .

For access to the wealth of beautiful beaches and Islands that Malaysia has to offer why not rent a sailing boat, catamaran or motorboat to explore the regions that would otherwise be left undiscovered. The main Yachtcharter Malaysia areas are Langkawi, Tioman and their surrounding islands. The Langkawi Archipelago is located in northwest Malaysia near the Thai border and the scenic and geologically interesting sailing area is north of the Strait of Malacca in the southern Andaman Sea. Tioman is located in the Gulf of Thailand, about 30 nautical miles east of the mainland of the Malay Peninsula. The sailing area covers the entire archipelago between Tioman and Aur, and the islands off the coast of Mersing.

The Malaysian waters are not too demanding however with the abundance of coral and reef over the coast night sailing is prohibited by many yacht charter companies. It is best to sail the waters near Langkawi during the dry season (November to April) and avoid the stronger winds and wet weather at other times of year, whereas Tioman waters are recommended for sailing between April and October, where the weather is warm, the waters calm and sunny skies prevail. Do keep into consideration though that the wind is up to 5 Bft from the southeast and it is often necessary to sail close to the wind when it blows parallel to the coastline.
