ALIOTH Licensed 3D Printed IOM Kit

ALIOTH Licensed 3D Printed IOM Kit

is backordered. We will ship it separately in 10 to 15 days.

Dragon Sailing North America is the authorized USA Factory for the ALIOTH International One Metre. This is a cutting edge International One Metre hull  and print design by top sailor Juan Egea from Spain at RC Sailing Labs. The ALIOTH design incorporates the latest cutting edge features of many top end International one meter classes including, balanced hull, hard chine, great forward buoyancy, among many other features! Juan's print design ensures that the licensed ALIOTH 3D print will be the proper width, quality, and rules compliant boat that you can enjoy for years to come! Our print is also structurally reinforced in several key areas not found in lower quality 3DP designs. DSNA uses PLA Tough Pro Filament for our prints to strive for  maximum durability and resistance to high temperatures. Our experience printing the hulls sections and sharing quality control information directly with other "Factories" and the designer, ensures a quality product for our skippers! Please note ,we require 5 business days to print a kit (7 Color Choices)  and internals (7 Color choices) . Each ALIOTH Lisenced Boat Kit Includes:

Paid License for the ALIOTH IOM 2023 Version 3!
3D printed Boat Hull sections (printed at 1.2mm width) Currently 3 sections (Unfinished, Unsanded, Uncut)
Internal 3D Printed Parts printed at 100% infill to comply with IOM Class Rules to accomodate deck hardware and internal rigging nuts & screws
RC Sailing Labs Pot and screw on top
Discounted Packages for DSNA  IOM Electronics / Batteries!

Alioth Licensed owners have full access to the forum at https://aliothiom.com for resources, and guides on building, finishing and coating the hull sections, rigging the boat, and getting a competitive IOM on the water racing!

Please keep in mind however 3D printed boats will not hold up under long periods in high heat, especially darker colors!  When not on the water make sure to store under cover, and out of the sun! Our design can accomodate several different types of servos & winches, but we recommend our ALIOTH Electronics Package Which includes our multi-voltage/ digital/ coreless, SW22 Sail Winch (w/ 40mm Drum) & DFGMD1 Micro Servo, which help reduce overall weight.  These servos are both super high torque, high quality , and battle tested for the IOM class. We also offer complete deck and internal hardware kits as an add on option. Currently, complete keel fin, rudder fin  and Ballast must be sourced separately directly from RC Sailing Labs.   Other fins and bulbs can be fitted to the boat kit with printed adapters available on request. We also have lightweight, reliable LiPo & Life Batteries, chargers available .  Rigs and sails can be sourced worldwide from many different dealers, currently DSNA does not carry these item or build boats turnkey! In an era of radio sailing when high end competeitive boats can take years to get on the water, the ALIOTH IOM is a fantastic, low cost alternative to enter the international level  of high end radio sailing!

Started out RC sailing 6 years ago with 30 year old IOM now sailing a 3D printed Alioth IOM . IOM fleet regularly see 10 boats sailing every Tuesday. 3D printed boats are now doing very well.

So,  can anyone tell us a rough on the water price, that they have done this for? Ballast, fin rudder, electrics masts

And Two suits of sails A and B, + av radio kit.

would be nice to know, as this could become a game changer. For IOM participation to increase!

we have one at HRYC thus far and it is fast, but could also be the helm, we haven’t had a go with it yet.

Hi Stephen B, The hull kit is £330. The fin, rudder and ballast £358 - allow £150 per rig set, sail winch £250 (RMG), Rudder servo £35, TX/RX and battery £100. Add around £100 for hardware etc. Total around £1473. I rarely offer complete hulls as I'm so busy printing the Kits. Call me on 07966490048

Paul do you have a parts list for the hardware?

There is hardware parts list in the files section  https://www.facebook.com/groups/373682077022782/files/files

Sails etc also have a list - just ask for the Alioth parts list

Warm regards Paul

Where do you find the clip on Pot Lids? and also where is the file for the amended neck.

Thanks Steve

Hi Steve, I originally found them on Etsy but more recently got them from Aliexpress.  They are 100mm can lids. There are a few inserts that have been designed to use the clip on lid.

  • 4 weeks later...

Just wondering how many Alioth are out there sailing? I know of one that sails with us but heard of a couple more being built. They do offer a more cost effective option and reduced waiting times. Interested to hear of people's experience with them?

I have printed approx. 20 hulls for customers and there are close to another 20 self printed.

Hi, I am sailing a 27 year old IOM Bubbles GBR 620 (forever blowing) she takes all of my time

to keep her on the water. I am printing an Alioth V3 to replace her. Now, as all in the club

know me and my boat as 20 how do I do the same 620 for the new Alioth?  Thanks  Alan.

Officially you need to apply to the IOM registrar for a hull number probably in the 5000+ range. Then you could use the last 2 digits of the new number. Alternatively you could apply for a personal number for a small fee. If 20 is available all good.

If you don't sail outside your local club you could just put 620 on your sails.

Please post some pictures.

We are about to print an Alioth V3 with a Wanhao D5S printer which uses a 2.85 filament.

Looking at a red or light blue PLA+, not too easy to find, what would be your thoughts

on this as most of the PLA+ seems to be 1.75..  Thanks  Alan

The 2.85mm filament is rarely used in the sort of machines most people use. I only use polymax pla tough filament as it's performance is so much better than anything else.

Sorry can't be of more help

The printer looks a mean beast but the results are what matter.

It would be interesting to know how many are on the water? The fleet seems to be growing a game changer in both waiting time and cost.

Following in the foot steps of Boris Savinkov
Boris Savinkov died on 7th May, 1925. According to the government he committed suicide by jumping from a window in the Lubyanka Prison. However, other sources claim that he was killed in prison by agents of the All-Union State Political Administration (GPU). Sidney Reilly insisted that Savinkov was murdered in August 1924: "Savinkov was killed when attempting to cross the Russian frontier and a mock trial, with one of their own agents as chief actor, was staged by the Cheka in Moscow behind closed doors."

This is the new for 2022 Alioth, so it is good to see that improvements keep coming. One of the interesting details of this design is that there are no STL files available for the major hull sections. You are only given Gcode files for them. The other hull fittings are in both STL and .gcode format.

All-Round Performance. A higher forward deck and narrower mid and stern sections, are the easily recognizable modifications of the hull shape. While keeping a smooth hydrodynamic shape, and the genuine Alioth aesthetic, changes on the hull look for an increment in the performance of the boat making it a better all-round design.

I actually think it sails just fine with the slow winch as it keeps the boat (and skipper) from overreacting and sailing smooth. It sails more like a bigger boat. The IOM rule C.6.4 declares the weight of this full keel, excluding fasteners to the hull, must be under 2500 grams. The fin has a printed sleeve, but that is part of the hull. Weight of bulb, fin, and bulb hex nut 2386 gr + 107 gr + 2 gr = 2495 grams! 5 grams to spare is very tight, but just fine.

So next time I would need 3 cans of spray. They are running about $20/can - ouch. Just keep saying, "It's cheaper than a "real" boat!" Overall, It was a lot of work, but I am happy. The 2k finish (other than the toxicity) is great to work with. I would NEVER make a boat this way if I was doing production work.
