The Untold Truth Of Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Daisy Kelliher

Daisy Kelliher smiling

On March 1, Bravo viewers will be introduced to an all-new Below Deck: Sailing Yacht crew, and on that crew is Daisy Kelliher.

Ahead of what looks to be a dramatic premiere episode of Season two, Bravo released a short bio about Kelliher, which revealed that she is not only a passionate yachtie herself, but also comes from a long line of yachties in her family. As the bio explained, Kelliher's grandfather was an Olympic sailor for Ireland in the 1960s, and her parents, as well as several of her aunts and uncles, also worked on boats.

Although Kelliher certainly has a lot to live up to when it comes to her family's deep roots in the industry, that doesn't stop her from engaging in her fellow crew mates' drama, or from showing – through her drinking habits – that she is a "true Irish woman."

"Daisy can always be counted on to give you a piece of her mind and let her hair down to have a good time," the bio teased.

And that's not all.

Daisy Kelliher comes from a long line of yachties

As fans can likely tell from the Below Deck: Sailing Yacht   trailer , which includes returning crewmate Captain Glen Shephard, Daisy Kelliher hails from Dublin, Ireland. According to a report shared on March 1 by the Irish Examiner , she's 33-years-old and will act as Chief Stew in the new season, which will feature "beautiful Croatian scenery, steamy crew hookups, and a whole lot of boat drama."

As for her grandfather, the outlet shared further details about Eddie Kelliher, revealing that he was born in Tralee, Co Kerry, Ireland. Eddie's wife, Doreen Kelliher, was born on Valentia Island.

Following a move from his hometown to Dublin, Eddie reportedly joined the Royal Irish Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire and ultimately went on to compete in the Summer Olympics in Tokyo Japan. During the games, the Irish Examiner confirmed, Eddie represented his home country in the Dragon class.

Daisy Kelliher claims there was 'a lot of sex' on Parsifal III

While teasing her fans and followers on Instagram Live (per Irish Examiner )about what is to come on the Parsifal III, Daisy Kelliher admitted that there "was definitely a lot of sex" during filming on the series' second season. "I don't know if it was [ COVID-19 ]. I don't know, she confessed. "So, like, people hadn't been around other people in a while or what was going on. But there was definitely something in the air. It was like, wow, this a lot. Even for yachties, it was a lot."

Kelliher also added, "There was a lot of partying, a lot of sex, a lot of drama, a lot of tears."

In the sneak peek at Below Deck: Sailing Yacht , a number of hookups are previewed, including a hookup between two women of the show and numerous encounters between other members of the cast.

Daisy Kelliher bonded well with most of the castmates

During her revealing Instagram Live, Daisy Kelliher said that when it came to her relationships with her castmates, she enjoyed her time in production and felt that their group worked well together, despite the many outrageous moments there were involved in. "To be honest, the whole crew was pretty strong," she said. "If you took a bit of the drama out, I thought we were a good team, just kind of crazy personalities."

While  filming , Kelliher seemingly butted heads with one of her castmates after catching them in a lie and also had a situation with Chef Natasha De Bourg, who made it clear she did not want any critiques, whether constructive or otherwise, from Kelliher. "I'm the f–king chef," De Bourg told Kelliher after she recommended she kept the portions small for their guests. "Don't give me no f–king constructive criticism."

Daisy Kelliher's dad encouraged her to get into yachting professionally

According to Daisy Kelliher, it wasn't her grandfather, but her dad, who encouraged her to pursue a career in yachting.

"My dad encouraged me to join the industry because he thought I would really enjoy it," Kelliher told Distractify during a March 1 interview. "Dads are always right [and] we come from a strong sailing background." Kelliher also noted as a child, she spent a lot of her time on boats. "I grew up sailing on dinghy boats, and we went for holidays on small sailboats," she recalled.

Although Kelliher isn't working on a boat as of March 2021, after wrapping production on Below Deck months ago, she is currently near the water as she continues to spend time on the island of Antigua while "trying to figure out life" before returning to her previous home in Europe later this year.

Daisy Kelliher compares herself to Below Deck star Hannah Ferrier

Daisy Kelliher wears light pink lipstick.

When asked which former Below Deck star she's most similar to, Daisy Kelliher said her style is closest to that of Hannah Ferrier, who has appeared on all five seasons of Below Deck: Mediterranean . Still, when it comes to her persona, she believes she brings something to the show that viewers haven't seen on any previous seasons. "I think I'm quite different from the other past chief stews," she told Distractify . "I'm possibly like Hannah, just because I'm running around, and I don't know what's going on sometimes."

Also during her interview with the outlet, Kelliher said the "environment [was] intense" on the Parsifal III before describing herself as someone who is a bit hands-off and "relaxed," which can lead some to believe that she shouldn't be taken too seriously and "lack[s] authority."

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 premieres March 1, Monday, March 1 at 9/8c on Bravo.

Daisy Kelliher stars in season two of Below Deck Sailing Yacht

What is Below Deck Sailing Yacht?

The reality series follows the lives of the crew members who work and reside aboard a sailing yacht during a charter season in Croatia. Bravo says we should “expect beautiful Croatian scenery, steamy crew hookups, and a whole lot of boat drama.”

Who is the Irish crew member?

When watching the trailer one accent may have caught your attention. Chief Stewardess Daisy Kelliher, 33, from Dublin is part of the season two crew and, according to the show’s makers, the sea is in her blood.

“New Chief Stew, Daisy Kelliher, is considered a yachting legacy. Her grandfather was an Olympic sailor for Ireland in 1964, and her parents - and many aunts and uncles - were yachties,” her profile on Bravo’s website reads.

Her grandfather, Eddie Kelliher, was born in Tralee, Co Kerry and his wife, Doreen, was from Valentia island. After moving to Dublin, he joined the Royal Irish Yacht Club in Dun Laoghaire and he went on to compete in the Tokyo Summer Olympics, representing Ireland in the Dragon class.

The Bravo description continues: “Though Daisy has a lot to live up to when she joins Parsifal III as the new Chief Stew, that doesn’t stop her from driving head-first into crew politics and drinking like a true Irish woman. Daisy can always be counted on to give you a piece of her mind and let her hair down to have a good time.”

What happens in the first episode?

The description for episode one reads quite dramatically, from drunk fighting to a ‘lost at sea’ fear over two guests. “The first charter gets rocky when the guests get in a drunken, personal fight; the next morning, the guests’ excitement to sail puts Daisy and Natasha at odds over serving breakfast on heel; Jean-Luc realises he may have lost two guests at sea.”

What did Daisy say happened during the series?

“There was definitely a lot of sex,” Kelliher said in an Instagram Live video about the series. “I don’t know if it was Covid. I don’t know. So, like, people hadn’t been around other people in a while or what was going on. But there was definitely something in the air. It was like, wow, this a lot. Even for yachties, it was a lot."

Daisy added: "There was a lot of partying, a lot of sex, a lot of drama, a lot of tears."

Despite the drama-filled scenes, Kelliher said the crew was “awesome”.

"To be honest, the whole crew was pretty strong," she said. "If you took a bit of the drama out, I thought we were a good team, just kind of crazy personalities."

Where can I watch the show?

The second season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs on the Bravo cable network in the US from today. The series is streamed on Hayu in Ireland.

Kelliher and King had previously made out during season 3 of the series.

The Ireland native spoke about the messy situation with E! News .

When speaking about MacRae, she said: "I think there was kind of always something a bit there, but he always had a girlfriend."

She noted that their chemistry "naturally happened" during season 4.

Kelliher added: "Obviously, Colin's a good-looking guy, but for me it was always a friendship and when you're friends with someone for that long and they have a partner, you kind of put them in the friend zone.

"So I wasn't exactly foreseeing it, but I do kind of make out with people I'm friends with. I find people's personalities attractive. So if I'm friends with you, I probably find you attractive in some sort of manner."

The TV star continued: "It definitely puts a bit of a spanner in the works and challenges all of our friendships: my friendships with the boys, the boys friendship with each other.

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht Finale Was ‘Really Hard’ for Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher to Watch

below deck sailing yacht irish girl

It’s no surprise that Below Deck: Sailing Yacht chief stew Daisy Kelliher is a big sister in real life. “I am a big sister! I am. Oh God … so transparent,” she accepts over Zoom. Kelliher often talks about her “Mom Daisy” persona, but her big-sister energy is what drips through the screen. She’s protective of her girls and doesn’t want them making the same mistakes she did in her early days. And after 10 years in the yachting industry, Kelliher knows a thing or two. “I’m a little bit older and I’ve been there, done that. If I’m not gonna look after them, who will?” she says.

There was a lot to look after this season: Gary’s womanizing ways, feuds erupting between Ashley and Gabriela, and new personalities coming aboard halfway through — not to mention being down a stew for a couple of charters. Kelliher had her hands full, but it paid off. By the season finale , she granted Ashley a promotion, made bank, and clarified her relationship with Gary, which she admits is still complicated.

Ashley was deeply moved when you promoted her at the final tip meeting. What are your thoughts on her growth throughout the season? She was somebody I’d never met before. It was a really strange thing to witness. Nowadays there’s a lot of female independence and empowerment. I’ve grown up in this generation, so it was weird for Ashley to come in with a really old-school mentality. It really threw me. So I was determined to show her that she was worth more. She was a great stew and super-fun to be around. And she has so many other qualities than the ones she saw herself. So I was quite determined for her to see herself through our eyes.

She was so proud of herself in the finale! We had several conversations, and she told me that people have never recognized her for anything but the way she looks. From what she told me, I was the only person who’d recognized her for something more than that. I believe it, too. I believe what she says because her nature definitely gave off that impression that she saw herself as nothing but a sex symbol. I don’t know what people have been in her life who have given her this guidance, but in my opinion, it wasn’t very good guidance.

One of my favorite moments from the season was when all the girls played “Fuck, Marry, Kill.” Of course, everyone wanted to marry Colin. He had a girlfriend, so it made sense that nobody went for him, but why didn’t anyone make a move for Marcos? Everyone asks this. It’s like Tinder: What the viewers are seeing is a profile and a face. There’s so much more to a person. Obviously he’s very handsome and highly skilled, but it’s more than that. He was also a good 20 years older than some of the girls. And I personally would’ve thought it was kind of weird, but I think I’m the only person who seems to think that. I don’t think a 40-year-old and a 60-year-old is that weird, but I think a 20-year-old and a 40-year-old …

I didn’t realize he was 40! He’s 43! Everyone was really pushing it, and I’m like, This is making me feel really uncomfortable . I would lose my shit if my 20-year-old came home with a 40-year-old. He obviously looks very young and he is super-handsome, but he didn’t have as much in common with the girls. I think he had some personal stuff with an on-and-off girlfriend, as we all do.

Speaking of off-screen romances, what is it like dating as a yachty? How do you even do that? You don’t. [ Laughs ] No, you do. It’s so hard. I haven’t managed it. I’ve had a few brief romances, but one guy I was dating — my boat was going to New Zealand, his boat was going to Palma, and that was the end of it, you know? I didn’t see him again for, like, four years.

Not to echo the final charter guests, but what are your thoughts on marriage? In the final episode, I get all like, “Maybe there’s true love!” I think I just got really emotional, because I’m really not like that. I’m not really fussed about getting married. I definitely believe in monogamy, mainly because I’m a really jealous and insecure person. But a marriage? I would love a commitment, and I think a marriage is a good way to show a commitment to somebody, but I definitely won’t be spending my money on a big wedding. I’d rather buy a house or put money toward holidays. So I don’t ever see myself personally getting married.

I know you talk about you and Gary ad nauseam, so I don’t want to spend too much time on him, but I need to get your thoughts on the hookup that almost happened in the finale. To be honest, that episode was really hard for me to watch, and I didn’t know anything. The kiss I was way more prepared for, because I knew I kissed Gary and the crew had told me I’d kissed Gary. I’d actually even spoken to some of the production staff and obviously did a load of green screens, so I was very prepared for that. We actually never spoke in my green screens about that last night, so I never knew that was coming. I had no idea about the comments that Gary was saying behind my back of being like, “I wanna hook up with Daisy.” I had no clue. I had no idea how flirty we were and how close we were to hooking up, so for me that was really difficult to watch and very, very embarrassing.

Thank God he was taking his time and I went to bed, because while watching it, I could see that I was seriously contemplating it. I don’t know; I wouldn’t have slept with him. There are a few times during the season that the audience doesn’t see where I do get into bed with Gary and we talk. I talk with the boys, and he is very affectionate. He is a very welcoming person. I think I was very, very close to getting into bed with him. I think he was just taking so long that my sober brain was going, “Okay, Daisy, time for bed.” And I just have so much relief in me that I went to bed.

Do you watch every episode in real time? I do. It’s obviously really hard to watch myself. I cringe. I’m like, “Ugh, your ass, go do a squat.” And my voice, I’m like, “How can anyone listen to me?” But overall, I think the show is funny. It’s weird … I know what I said, but I didn’t know what the other eight people said. So I found out quite a lot during this season that I had no idea was going on.

Like what? Gary very much was like, “Ashley’s obsessed with me.” I had a good feeling that he was leading her on, and I’d been told it a bit more …. But it was like, O h, you were fully just involved in it. He would very much throw her under the bus to me, being like, “She’s crazy.” Even the day on the bow, the very first night, he was like, “She kissed me,” and I’m like, “What? She may have kissed you, but you very much welcomed it with open arms. You happen to leave that very important part out.”

What are the plans right now for next season? Will we see the core group again? Like I tell everyone, there’s several circumstances. I need to be asked back. I also need to see what’s happening in my life. It’s a big commitment. Maybe I’ll get a boyfriend. [ Laughs. ] I wouldn’t hold your breath on that one, but, yeah, we’ll have to see what happens. If the circumstances are right on both ends, I had a great two seasons, so yeah, I would do it again.

Chief Stew Daisy Kelliher Unpacks ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Season 3 Ahead of Finale

Daisy Kelliher in Below Deck Sailing Yacht - Season 3

Daisy Kelliher started Season 3 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht with the mindset that she wasn’t going to take any “you know what” from anyone. That proved challenging for the chief stew as she ventured through turbulent waters aboard Parsifal III.

The luck of the Irish wasn’t always smiling on Kelliher as she managed professional and personal conflicts within her department, initially between second stew Gabriela Barragan and third stew Ashley Marti. That was until the environment was too much for Barragan, which led to Scarlett Bentley filling the position as a junior stew.

Adding to the drama was first mate Gary King , whose flirty ways didn’t make things any easier. With wedding bells ringing for guests on the final charter and the season finale on the horizon, we caught up with Daisy to unpack what we’ve seen so far and to get some burning questions answered.

Pretty crazy that the crew had to plan for a wedding with so little time.

Daisy Kelliher: It was definitely a lot. At the same time, I’ve been doing this for 10 years, so I was kind of like, “Whatever, we’re going to either do it or not.” I’ve reached a point in my career where stressing about it won’t help. I have confidence. We can only do what we can do within 24 hours, but it turned out to be pretty incredible.

Gary was at the center of a lot of the issues you faced in your department. Looking back, how difficult was that?

I think I came in pretty confident and went in with a way I wanted to handle everything. It did not work. People are going to do what they are going to do. The Gary part was very difficult for me because I feel like I really pushed his support away last season. I tried to take a different approach with him this time. I tried to be softer. It didn’t seem like either approach worked. It was a massive struggle within my team, but it was a great learning curve and growth for me. Me and Gary, I think had a better relationship this season. It’s not all Gary. It’s the girls too. Work-wise the girls were incredible, but it wasn’t about work all the time.

Do you feel like you could have done anything differently to prevent Gabriela from leaving mid-season?

I see the comments. I know a lot of people feel it was my problem or issue with Gabriela crumbling. I don’t agree with that. I stand by the fact I did my absolute best. Gabriela is the same age as me. I think it was a lot in her head. Someone may be a bit paranoid or feel that everyone is against them, but there is not much I can say or do. It was a personal inner growth she needed to work on.

Captain Glenn Shephard Talks Tense Situation in 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 3

Captain Glenn Shephard Talks Tense Situation in 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 3

You certainly had your share of difficult charter guests. Erica Rose came back. Then you had a very demanding charter with Dr. Kim Nichols. How was it reliving these experiences?

Nobody believes me, but it was actually worse in real life than on the edited, compressed [version]. People experienced that for an hour. We got a full three days of it. Rewatching it was funny. They are not awful people. Everyone has a good heart. Them screaming my name as I ran around, maybe they didn’t realize the impact. I’m a human as well. I don’t know how they felt watching. I look back and laugh because I can’t believe I lived through it and that happened. It was all a bit surreal.

Ashley felt she should have been higher up on the stew hierarchy. It came up again when Scarlett came on board and you decided to make both junior stews. Did it make you rethink having a second and third stew?

I think it was important for me to show the girls we are a team. I did try to explain to Ashley, which didn’t get aired, that in the yachting industry the only reason we have a second stew is to have a platform to move forward. It’s motivational, but it’s not there to boss people around or be above someone else. It was important to me that she understood that by the end of the season. It massively made me think about what I’m going to do next time. Maybe I’ll make everyone a junior stew.

When it comes to your relationship with Gary, everyone seems to chime in including Captain Glenn Shephard . What do you make of the infatuation between you two?

I knew at the time during the season that my big storyline was going to be me and Gary. I very much predicted what story was going to be told. The people behind the scenes explained that the chemistry between us was so intense. The whole boat could feel it. I was prepared for what was going to happen. I was surprised with how obsessed everyone is with us being a couple. I thought everyone would be against it. We are just friends. I hate to tell everyone that, but there is nothing more to it. Just very flirtatious.

For now. Never say never. Last year there was no way I would have said I was going to kiss him. So that was surprising.

Do you feel seeing him flirting with all the girls was the turnoff?

Massively. I was the first girl in the first season he hit on. It didn’t air, but I brushed him off straight away. Other people commented saying since I didn’t give him that attention, he looked for it elsewhere. I thought that was an interesting point. Fair enough, but as soon as he went off with Sydney [Zaruba] and Alli [Dore] and now Ashley and Gabriela — yeah, maybe things would have ended differently if he continued to pursue me, but he didn’t. We’ll never know.

How would you sum up the season?

I thought it was hard to top season 2 because so much happened. This season has been such a roller coaster of emotions. So much happened in season 3. For me, it was a lot of ups and downs. Like last season, the aim for me was to come out on a high with a strong team and loving friendship. It was a massive success. That’s the fun in the show, having the audience come with us. There were points where maybe they thought, “Are we going to make it? Is the boat going to make it?” We finish on a big high, which you will see in the finale.

What can we expect from the reunion?

I think people took accountability in the reunion. It’s good to talk about the incidents during the season, but it was all good. I think we’re all still talking to each other.

'I was at rock bottom before Below Deck', says Irish TV star Daisy Kelliher

below deck sailing yacht irish girl

As a skilled yachtswoman, Daisy Kelliher found global fame as the chief stewardess of a superyacht on Bravo's US reality show Below Deck: Sailing Yacht. The show chronicles the lives of the crew members who work and reside aboard a superyacht during charter season, and propelled Daisy onto a whole new career path - but not before she hit rock bottom first.

Daisy, from a yachting dynasty, had carved a successful career working in yachting and was working permanently for a family for about three years when lockdown hit. She had just arrived in Ireland while on holiday in March 2020 when her life changed in one fell swoop. 'I lost my job, my home, my lifestyle and my friends. I took it quite badly,’ the 35-year-old Dubliner says, while back in Cabinteely for a few days before returning to her base in London. ‘But I was fortunate enough to have parents who took me in so I stayed there throughout.’

Then came a fateful message from a friend alerting Daisy to the fact that Below Deck were casting. ‘I didn’t really feel like I had anything to lose,’ she says frankly. Daisy could never have predicted how appearing on the hit show for two seasons, running the interior of the sailing yacht Parsifal III - would change her life. She has now amassed over 260,000 followers on Instagram, is a bona fide influencer for a big number of brands and is a recognisable face in many countries. ‘It’s not scripted or prepared, but the pressure cooker we are put in on a busy yacht just makes for naturally compelling TV.' Viewers especially loved Daisy’s no-nonsense attitude as ‘chief stew’ — the person who essentially runs the show on the boat. Daisy says, you’re the ‘the equivalent of the person who runs the whole hotel’.

‘The super elite, it’s like this — anything they want, you make it happen,’ she says. ‘No is not an answer. When you’ve been doing it as long as I have you know that there’s going to be those kind of people who make ridiculous requests and maybe they are just determined to be difficult. But that doesn’t bother me.’ A life at sea — even on a super yacht — is not for everyone. You can forget about your double beds and buckets of toiletries for a start. ‘If you’re the kind of person who loves to travel and enjoys that nomadic lifestyle, it can be the dream job,’ says Daisy. ‘But you have to be flexible, not be homesick, be free-spirited and adventurous.' Her straight-talking ways have not only won her a legion of fans, the show has just been nominated for a People’s Choice award, so now she may be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Kardashians, who are in the same category.

‘I think as humans we generally stay in our comfort zone so there’s a bravery that comes to putting yourself out there and it is very rewarding in that way, to allow yourself to do that in front of millions of people,’ she says of her experience. That said, there were plenty of times Daisy wishes the cameras weren’t recording. ‘Oh yeah, every day,’ she laughs. ‘It’s hard. There are moments when you cry or you get too drunk and you’re embarrassed,’ she admits. ‘All these things that you don’t want anyone to see, let alone it be recorded for millions of people and there forever. So it’s a huge risk but I’ve come out at the end and learned all these new skills like interviews and podcasts and social media.’ Life on the boat-based reality show reveals plenty of nightmare guests, rows, tears and tantrums — and also plenty of romance, much to viewers’ delight. But the drama doesn’t faze Daisy one bit.

‘I think I’ve hooked up with like two people I’ve worked with in my whole career and one of them happens to be filmed,’ she laughs, speaking of her smooch with good friend and first officer Gary King. ‘It was just a kiss. But in general, if you put young, good-looking people plied with alcohol, locked up on a boat, what do you think is going to happen? I think it happens in every industry but yachting is definitely incestuous.' While there were some people who weren’t her cup of tea — no names mentioned — Daisy maintains that she’s made some friends for life on the hit show.

Daisy Kelliher Below Deck

‘It was an incredibly bonding experience, not everyone can relate to what we went through,’ she says, adding that she is very good friends with Gary, chief engineer Colin MacRae and Captain Glenn Shepard. ‘Of course there were some I didn’t gel with as well but personally I didn’t make any enemies. I remember arriving and thinking, this is insane.'

Who is Daisy Kelliher? Meet the 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' chief stew who drinks like a true Irishwoman

If you think yachting is all smooth sailing, think again. Between dealing with demanding guests and ensuring Covid-19 protocols are in place, it's up to the 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' cast to keep calm when the sea and drama get choppy. With Season 2 bringing in some new faces, get ready to see the castmates butt heads. With chef Natasha De Bourg and chief stew Daisy Kelliher going at each others' throats due to their strong nature, a whole lot of friction is guaranteed. So, who is chief stew Daisy Kelliher? Here's what we know about the Irish woman with a sailing legacy.

'Below Deck Sailing Yacht' Season 2: Release date, trailer, cast and all you need to know about Bravo reality show

Kelliher joined the crew as chief stew

Being a chief stew is no easy feat — there are a ton of responsibilities that comes with the role. Kelliher will have to look into a number of aspects as she takes on this role. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the interior team, setting stewardess schedules for cleaning and service, accounting and managing budgets, maintaining the upkeep of inventories, provisioning, uniform purchase and dealing with shipyard contractors.

But it's not all work and no play for Kelliher. According to her bio on the official Bravo TV website, "Though Daisy has a lot to live up to when she joins Parsifal III as the new Chief Stew, that doesn’t stop her from diving head-first into crew politics and drinking like a true Irish woman. Daisy can always be counted on to give you a piece of her mind and let her hair down to have a good time."

Sailing runs in her blood

Hailing from Glenageary in Dublin, Kelliher is an Irishwoman who is rather proud of her roots — her sailing roots, to be exact. While she herself has a ton of sailing experience, taking on the sea runs in a family. Not only was her grandfather, Eddie Kelliher, an Olympic sailor, but a number of her family members are also a part of the Dún Laoghaire yacht club. It's safe to say that Kelliher definitely knows her way around a vessel.

This is her first stint with reality TV

While sailing may be second nature to Kelliher, there is something she's rather unfamiliar with, and that's being on camera. Becoming a part of the show was rather unexpected for her.

According to a report by Independent.ie , she spoke about how a chain of events led her to become a part of the show. “I had been let go from my boat during Covid-19, the yachting world was looking unpredictable and I was stuck at home. Then a few friends texted saying, ‘they’re recruiting for the show, you should do it’." she said while talking about her experience.

"I did it, obviously not thinking I was going to get it. Then one thing led to another and next thing I knew I was flying to Croatia,” she added. While being a Chef Stew is a pretty hands-on job itself, Kelliher found out that all about being a reality star. "It was something that was fun and interesting and different and I didn’t know how these reality shows were filmed. I know nothing about TV so it was an awesome experience,” she recounted.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht: Daisy Kelliher recalls interviewing with Hannah Ferrier for yachting job

Daisy from Below Deck Sailing Yacht met Below Deck Med alum Hannah during her first interview in yachting world.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher recalled interviewing with Below Deck Mediterranean alum Hannah Ferrier for a stew job.

Daisy has been in the yachting world for years. The Irish beauty quickly became a fan favorite chief stew during Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 2. There’s even speculation that Daisy returned for Season 3 of the sailing show.

Now Daisy has shared that she had a connection to Hannah, which the latter didn’t remember.

Daisy Kelliher interviewed with Below Deck Med’s Hannah Ferrier

Hannah joined Daisy, and Dani Soares on their Pita Party podcast to dish all things Below Deck. Before discussing the hit-yachting franchise, Daisy spilled the tea on meeting Hannah for the first time.

When she first saw Hannah on Below Deck Mediterranean, Daisy shared that she had a crazy flashback of meeting her for an interview.

“So it’s my first season, and I was looking for my first job, so I hadn’t had a job,” Daisy explained. “And you were down by like the Capitainerie in Antibes. So, you were on a boat there, and this is how me and this girl Kate actually met. But we were both waiting to be interviewed. I mean, me and Kate are still friends to this day, nine years later.”

The Below Deck Sailing Yacht star spilled that she was so hungover during the interview she had to wear sunglasses.

Here’s why Daisy didn’t get the job with Hannah

Hannah didn’t remember the meeting and questioned if Daisy met with her. Daisy set the record straight for the Below Deck Mediterranean alum.

“Yeah, you interviewed me. You had a French captain, and you really wanted me, but you’d just fired a girl, and he really wanted this French girl. And because you had this disaster season with these older girls, he got his way, and he’s like, ‘No, I’m hiring this French girl’ and me, and you were emailing back and forth, and that was the end of it. And I never saw you again,” Daisy dished.

After Hannah, Daisy and Dani talked about yachting being such a small world, Hannah admitted she wished she hired the Irish beauty. Hannah did remember the French girl that got hired, and she was not a fan.

Daisy Kelliher from Below Deck Sailing Yacht has shared the story of Hannah Ferrier interviewing her for one of her first jobs.

What a great team they would have made. Perhaps the Below Deck franchise can make their wishes of working together come true.

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9/8c on Bravo.

‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’s’ Daisy Kelliher Is the Best Chief Stew

By Marlow Stern

Marlow Stern

“You’ll have to bear with me,” offers Daisy Kelliher in her canorous Irish accent. “I’m in Antigua on a very small sailboat.”

I’m on a Zoom call with Daisy, indefatigable chief stewardess of Parsifal III on Below Deck Sailing Yacht , who’s on a sailboat sitting on a small bed in a tiny cabin — not unlike the ones she rooms in on the hit series. But Daisy’s not on the job. She’s in the midst of a two-and-a-half-week vacation with her parents that will take them to Antigua and then to Saint Martin.

Daisy hails from a yachting family — both her parents were yachties — and has not only emerged as the star of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , whose fourth season is now airing on Bravo and Peacock, but is also, in this writer’s opinion, the finest chief stew in Below Deck history (with apologies to Hannah Ferrier, whose Below Deck Med tenure was cruelly cut short by Captain Sandy the Narc).

Editor’s picks

“I’m proud to have come out alive,” Daisy says. (Still, she’d be happy to do it again.)

Rolling Stone caught up with Daisy to discuss Season Four of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and what makes the show so damn addictive.

Bravo Is in the Midst of an Unresolvable Conflict Crisis

Tom sandoval sues ex-girlfriend ariana madix over nsfw raquel leviss video found on his phone, how to watch 'the real housewives' franchise online (even if you've broken up with cable).

I’ve always wondered if you all actually get any good sleep in those tiny bunks. You’re so crammed together, and the beds look so small. I love the tiny bunks! I have slept in tiny bunks now for so long that I don’t sleep that well in my big bunk. I like the company. It took a little while to get used to when I first joined boats, but it’s been so long now — even to the point of liking the comfort of having someone else breathe. I now have an apartment in London, but when I used to go on holiday, rent a hotel room, and stay in the bed by myself, I really, really would struggle to sleep. It’s all about habits. I went to boarding school as well, and shared a room at times with my sister, so it was really nothing unusual for me.

Are you stew-ing year-round, or what do you do the other 46 weeks of the year for work? The first two seasons of Below Deck I did chief stew-ing, so I would freelance. This year, I’m taking more of a break, settling into my apartment in London, and spending more time with family and friends. I’m always open to the work if people need help. It’s super easy for me to hop on a boat for a couple of weeks and chief stew, but I’m trying to do less of it as I get older.

That guy Marcus last season, the obnoxious one who compared Marcos’s food to “ballpark” food, was maybe the worst guest I’ve ever seen on Below Deck . Yeah. It’s never nice to experience something like that, but a part of me kind of enjoys it as well. I’m like, “ Ugh , why do I have to deal with this shit?” Then you think, “You know what? This is actually kind of entertaining..” But in the moment, it was intimidating. I was shaking, and I’m not easily intimidated at all. It was one of those situations, though, where it’s like, “This is a you problem, not a me problem.”

Are Trumpers from Florida usually the worst guests, or was it just that guy? [ Laughs ] No, most of the guests are really nice. Even the bad ones are really not that bad. The majority of the time, they’re at each other if there’s something negative. It’s very rare that it’s directed at me personally. This season was more smooth sailing, but there are definitely some interesting guests.

I’m personally very impressed by your ability to party so hard and then maintain such a high degree of professionalism on very little sleep. Everyone has their skills and their qualities. Some people are really mathematical. Some people are good at languages. Some people are good at time management. I’m just really good at partying and being professional. [ Laughs ] I’m Irish so I can tolerate my alcohol, and I’m a really good drunk — I’m not a negative drunk, and it has quite a positive effect on me. I handle my hangovers well. But I definitely do still stuffer. It’s not like I’m chirpy and all that. But it’s work. I’m a millennial and we don’t know anything else. We’re like, it’s work time!

During the Season Three reunion the game of “fuck, marry, kill” you all played was brought up, and Colin had this funny response where he said, “Nobody wants to bang Colin.” But this is the first time we’ve seen single Colin on the loose. What was single Colin like? He’s still very reserved. He’s not quite like Gary, who will hit on anything and plays a different kind of game. Colin is just a little bit more geeky and has a bit less game. He’s still pretty respectful. But you do see more of his personality this season. He faces more challenges than he’s had to in past seasons. I think Colin does OK on his own. There’s only enough room on the boat for one Gary.

During the season preview, they tease that there’s a love triangle of sorts between you, Gary, and Colin. Are they misleading us or what transpired there? Definitely something does transpire. It’s not so much of a tease. There’s definitely a lot in there to unpack, and you’re going to see it from the middle of the season through to the end. It’s complicated because we’re all single people, we’ve all been friends for a long time, we’re all a similar age and have similar interests. It’s kind of inevitable that there’s going to be complicated situations. I don’t want to give too much away. I’m dreading it, but it will be fun for people at home to watch.

It seems Gary gets quite jealous and in his feelings over it? Yeah. I think it’s a shock to everyone, to be honest. Including myself. I’m like, uh, you’ve had two years to hit on me and you haven’t. I don’t know why he’s jealous. But you’ll see when you watch the season.

How would you characterize your and Gary’s relationship? A flirty, platonic relationship. I think, at times, that flirtiness crosses over into something more complicated. Gary’s a flirty person, I’m a flirty person, and there are moments where we kiss because it gets confusing when you’re flirting with someone you’re very close to. Whether there’s something more there? I don’t think so. We’re living separate lives, and also for me it’s just a flirty, platonic relationship. I’ve seen too much and learned too much. If I hadn’t learned that, maybe we would have hooked up and something else would have transpired.

Are you conflicted about the chaos Gary sows in your department? Because he’s always hooking up with all the stews and pitting them against each other, and then you have to pick up the pieces. And what do you warn your stews about Gary? Last season, I kind of warned Scarlett and I feel like that got thrown back in my face. This season, I’ve taken the approach of just staying out of it. A part of me does lose a lot of respect for Gary for doing that. I don’t respect people who make other people’s jobs harder. I really struggled all three seasons, and there have been times where it hasn’t been aired. The first season was the worst, the second season was a little bit better, and the third season was a little bit better, but certainly it does make me lose respect for him a bit. I’m at the point where it’s like, I voice my opinion, and I don’t think it’s OK to treat colleagues like that, women like that, and especially me like that. But I’ve voiced it and he chooses not to listen, so I’ve chosen to not really let it affect me.

He’s not as bad as Jean-Luc at least. [ Laughs ] I at least enjoy Gary’s company.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Daisy Kelliher Debuts Drastic Change To Her Appearance

  • Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Daisy debuted a new haircut, signaling a "hot girl summer" ahead.
  • Fans anticipate season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and are hoping for premiere details unknown.
  • Relationship drama with Gary impacted Daisy on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, setting the stage for potential changes.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht star Daisy Kelliher debuted a drastic new change to her appearance , and many are wondering if it’s a sign of things to come. Daisy, who has been a part of Below Deck Sailing Yacht for seasons, has had a whirlwind year after the show took Bravo viewers by storm. After a tumultuous time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4 , Daisy’s relationships shifted and her time aboard Parsifal III was uncertain. Choosing to continue working aboard the superyacht with both Gary King, especially after her relationship with Colin Macrae imploded, was a tough decision for Daisy.

"Hot girl summer coming in quick"

Showing off a short new haircut on her Instagram , Daisy posted a video of herself before and after the big chop. “Hot girl summer coming in quick,” Daisy shared, alongside a video of her shocking new ‘do.

The cut comes just before many fans believe the announcement for the premiere of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, which is hopefully coming soon. Daisy, who works as the Parsifal III’s Chief Stewardess, reporting to Captain Glenn Shephard, will likely be facing even more major changes on the Below Deck spin-off when it returns in the ensuing summer months.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

When Will Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Be Announced?

While it’s not certain when the highly anticipated Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 will be announced, judging by previous seasons, it’s likely the premiere date will be released soon. The past seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht have aired far earlier in the year, some as early as February, and some as late as April. Though the premiere dates have varied, the last season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht was finished by mid-June, making the current season somewhat unprecedented. Though Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5’s premiere date hasn’t been announced yet, the season was filmed during summer 2023 .

The upcoming season of Below Deck Sailing Yacht may be difficult for Bravo to figure out how to advertise , as issues with the show’s First Officer, Gary, have been increasingly difficult throughout the last year. After being accused of sexual misconduct by a makeup artist who was working on the series, many Below Deck viewers called for Gary’s removal from the series, as well as from Bravo events. Though he was originally announced as a guest at BravoCon 2023, Gary was removed from the list of attendees after fans spoke up about their displeasure with Gary’s attendance at the event.

Daisy Had A Difficult Time On Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 4

Below Deck Sailing Yacht has typically been a more low-key series, with the drama on the show surrounding charter guests and crew romances rather that more serious issues. During Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, however, there was some major drama surrounding Daisy, Collin, and Gary 's confusing relationship. While the trio had been friends for years after working aboard the same vessels and developing a close-knit relationship, Daisy and Colin took their close friendship to another level . After skirting around the idea of a relationship, the pair chose to dive in headfirst, despite concerns about the way others would react.

Below Deck's Gary King Reveals If He's Still 'Jealous' Of Daisy & Colin

Gary King is walking back his jealous comments towards long-standing BDSY crush, Daisy Kelliher, following her emerging connection with Colin Macrae.

Gary, who had always been a sideline supporter of Daisy and Colin separately, seemed to take issue with his two close friends getting into a romantic relationship. Trying to drive a wedge between them, Gary worked his most manipulative magic in order to move Daisy and Colin away from one another. Gary, who hadn't previously felt he had feelings for Daisy in a romantic sense, didn't seem to be able to handle the idea that she was with someone else. He appeared jealous, despite swearing he wasn't jealous at all, and worked against their relationship instead of supporting his friends.

Do Gary King's Actions His Removal From Below Deck?

While Gary was able to manipulate his way between Colin and Daisy, as the pair ended their relationship after Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, the other actions he took while aboard Parsifal III last charter season were even more unacceptable. Throughout his time as First Officer, G ary has shown a lack of respect for women , especially those that he works with aboard Parsifal III. Not only was he disrespectful to Daisy during his time aboard the yacht, but his relationship with the rest of the interior team, including Mads Herrera and Lucy Edmunds, wasn't in the realm of appropriate.

Gary's behavior has been difficult to watch after learning about the sexual misconduct allegations that former Below Deck makeup artist Samantha Suarez lodged against him in 2023. Watching back Gary's actions and realizing that his understanding of consent is somewhat different than the rest of the crew's , it's clear that he was operating under a very different system of beliefs than his colleagues. While it's a positive that Gary didn't cause any trouble to the rest of his crew during their time on Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, his behavior was too risky for him to return without consequence.

While Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 is hopefully shaping up to be one of the more interesting seasons of the spin-off series, some are wondering if it will ever actually be released. As Daisy debuts her new haircut, some are taking it as a sign that times are changing and the season will be announced, while others are simply enjoying the Chief Stew’s newest look. For many, the arrival of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 will be a welcome excitement, as viewers have been waiting for the next installment of the series for nearly a calendar year.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is available to stream on Peacock.

Gary and Daisy's Relationship Has Endured Rough Waters on 'Below Deck Sailing Yacht'

Haylee Thorson - Author

Updated June 6 2023, 12:12 p.m. ET

The relationship between Gary King and Daisy Kelliher from Below Deck Sailing Yacht hasn't been easy for either of them. Or, for Colin MacRae, Daisy's Season 4 love interest.

After Daisy and Gary entered the Below Deck universe in 2021, fans of the Bravo series have continuously speculated that the reality stars are more than friends. And they aren’t the only ones who see their dynamic that way.

Gary has spoken out about his and Daisy's connection and their past is a big part of their storyline in Season 4. Especially since Daisy is ready to move on. Let’s dive into Gary and Daisy’s relationship timeline and how they ended up where they are today.

Gary and Daisy’s relationship timeline started out rocky during Season 2 of ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht.’

The chief stew and first officer first graced fans' screens in 2021 when the second season of the Below Deck spin-off series debuted on Bravo. However, the duo did not hit it off right away.

Despite holding separate job responsibilities, Gary and Daisy’s personalities frequently clashed during their time in Season 2. So much so, the Irish reality star revealed during her first Below Deck Sailing Yacht reunion that she didn’t know if she would want to be co-workers with Gary again.

“You clearly hated me and thought I was a giant b--ch,” the chief stew told the New Zealand native. However, Gary denied the allegation and explained that he only said that she was “ acting b--chy.”

Gary and Daisy’s relationship turned passionate during Season 3 of ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht.’

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Gary King (@king_gk)

While it’s no secret Gary and Daisy’s relationship started rocky during Season 2 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , their dynamic shifted significantly during Season 3.

When the Bravo stars reunited for their second stint on the reality series, they engaged in a steamy makeout session in the hot tub during a night out.

The kiss was so passionate that Gary and Daisy almost slept together that night. But despite the palpable sexual tension between the two, the co-stars continued insisting that there was nothing romantic happening between them.

In fact, Daisy revealed on her Instagram story in January 2022 that she didn’t remember the kiss at all. “No one’s mind was more blown than mine the next day,” Daisy admitted, per Us Weekly . “I have no recollection of that kiss.”

Gary revealed that he and Daisy hooked up in the ‘Below Deck Sailing Yacht’ Season 4 mid-season trailer.

After being caught in a love triangle with Gary and Colin MacRae during Season 4 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht , the first officer revealed shocking information during the mid-season trailer that altered his relationship with Daisy.

When Gary got jealous about the chief stew’s hook-up with the chief engineer, Daisy immediately put him in his place. “You f---ing could have had me a million times over, and you didn’t want me,” she said in the trailer. “Now you can’t have me, and now you f---ing want me?”

Then, Gary dropped the ultimate bombshell. “Having sex with you was f---ing amazing,” he told her.

When Daisy realized that cameras picked up on the first officer’s comment, she tried silencing Gary so he wouldn’t spill any more secrets about their relationship.

And when Colin learned that his new flame hooked up with the Below Deck Sailing Yacht star, he couldn’t help but comment. “The chemistry they have and the way they look at each other — I thought it was all friends,” the chief engineer admitted. “It all makes sense now.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on Bravo.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht 's Daisy and Colin Slam Each Other & Reveal OMG Details From Messy Breakup

Below deck sailing yacht 's daisy kelliher and colin macrae revealed the shocking reasons they are no longer on good terms following their season four boatmance during the season four reunion..

Daisy Kelliher and Colin MacRae 's budding boatmance has officially capsized—for good.

During the final episode of Below Deck Sailing Yacht ' s season four reunion on July 18, the Bravo stars revealed that their romantic relationship crashed and burned weeks after disembarking the Parsifal III last year.

"We explored something together," Colin admitted to host Andy Cohen , adding that he and Daisy met up during multiple trips to New York, Mexico and the Newport Boat Show in Rhode Island. "Then it kind of turned a little toxic I'd say and I ended things around December last year."

As for why things went south, Daisy—whose flirtation with costar Gary King caused drama during her budding romance with the chief engineer—claimed Colin had another woman on the side.

"We return to the boat and I find out he's sleeping with someone he's working with," she explained. "So, I immediately retreat, I put up all of my walls. This is nothing that gets shown, nothing that's aired. And I become very defensive. Colin made me feel incredibly guilty about the Gary thing. That didn't just happen on season, that happened throughout the year."

According to Daisy, she was devastated to find out about Colin's other relationship from their BDSY costars. "It was very shocking for me to hear, very hurtful," she continued, "and the toxicity was always there because the trust was never there."

But the bombshells didn't stop there. As Colin then revealed, their romance actually started earlier than they initially claimed, noting, "Before filming season four, Daisy and I hooked up."

While the admission shocked Andy and the rest of the cast, it infuriated Daisy, who proceeded to drop a F-bomb-filled rant exposing even more secrets.

"Why don't we go back to season two when we finished filming when you were in a serious relationship with your girlfriend and you pulled me aside in the bar and you were like, 'If I was single you are definitely the person I'd want to hook up with,'" the chief stew retorted. "Then, end of season three, you pulled me aside at the pontoon when we were having a party and you were like, 'I really want to kiss you.' And i was like, 'This is awkward because you're in a serious relationship.'"

Colin's response? "I think only Daisy can sit there with zero remorse and turn this around on me," he fired back. "It's a unique skill."

His comment caused Daisy to burst into tears and walk off camera. Upon her return, the Ireland native explained why she was so emotional.

"I'm f--ked either way," Daisy stated. "I'm always gonna be the bitter, angry, crazy woman. I'm never gonna win. It's never gonna matter what I say. I defend myself, I'm defensive. I sleep with someone, I'm a slut. I speak up, I'm angry or toxic. I stay silent, I'm weak."

The explosive confrontation ended with Andy asking the one question everyone wanted to know: Did Colin and Daisy actually love each other before their romance imploded?

Colin answered he "1,000 percent" had true feelings for her, with Daisy replying, "I think we were definitely very strong feelings to the point of we were possibly falling in love, but, no, I wasn't. I was more betrayed by the fact that he didn't tell me he was with this girl."

About below deck sailing yacht.

Capt. Glenn and his comeback team Daisy Kelliher, Gary King and Colin MacRae resume their responsibilities aboard Parsifal III, along with new, dynamic crew members, as they set sail in Sardinia, Italy.

Capt. Glenn realizes that his laid-back leadership style has allowed his crew to become too comfortable and starts taking charge of quality control in the interior department, much to Daisy's dismay. In the galley, Chef Ilesha's cooking impresses the guests, but her indecisiveness and co-dependency lead to time-management issues between courses, which causes her to self-destruct. On deck, strong personalities collide, and a power struggle results in a near mutiny, as Gary clashes with his new overconfident deckhand, Chase.

Two overlapping love triangles further complicate the dynamics on-board, and a shocking hookup puts Colin, Daisy and Gary’s friendship in jeopardy.

With a near collision, fire, crew rebellion, gruesome guest injury and two different potentially season-ending engine failures, this is the most captivating and unpredictable season yet of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.

Here’s What the Cast of Below Deck Sailing Yacht Is Currently Up to Now

Are Jenna and Adam still together?

below deck sailing yacht season 1

From a spontaneous proposal failing spectacularly to a joke about being breastfed as an adult, Sailing Yacht was as much a dramatic success as the other franchises. It also left fans wondering about what's happening to the crew since the show wrapped. Did chief stew Jenna and chef Adam stay together? What's going on with Georgia's music? And most important—is Captain Glenn really as cool as we think he is?

Here's what the cast of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht is up to now:

Jenna MacGillivray

When the Canadian stepped onto the Parsifal III, fans got exactly what they hoped for in a chief stew—a no-nonsense leader who also had a romantic spot in her heart for the chef in the galley. Though her relationship with Adam Glick proved to be tumultuous, the two dated for some time after the season wrapped, even taking some time to road-trip together.

These days, Jenna is enjoying some time off from yachting, but given her recent IG pics, she's excited to come back to another charter season.

Madison Stalker

Wherever Madison went, drama always seemed to follow the second stew during season one of Below Deck: Sailing Yacht . In between epic meltdowns (including a major one between her and Jenna over her lack of enthusiasm for her job), she left the boat a better person and leaving fans ready to see more from their new favorite cast member.

Judging by her Instagram account, she's taken a break from yachting (perhaps until next season of the show).

Georgia Grobler

As good of a third stew Georgia was on deck, fans were more invested in her budding music career and growing feelings for a very taken Paget. She proved she was great at her job and could make a career out of yachting.

While it's unclear whether she stayed in the yachting industry post- Sailing Yacht , Georgia's working on music, premiering new music videos on IGTV during the quarantine.

Below Deck Med fans were so excited when Adam joined the crew as the chef for Sailing Yacht . While he abided by the preference sheets this time around, he also began a rocky romance with chief stew Jenna, making most of the crew members wonder if he was there for his job or the girl.

Since the show wrapped, Adam's busy onshore, cooking, and traveling with his adorable puppy. Oh, and Adam has a web series, Stoked , where he travels across the country to meet with local chefs and learn about their regions... all while over a campfire.

Paget Berry and Ciara Duggan

If there was any couple to root for from the entire Below Deck franchise, it's Paget and Ciara. The duo made a great team on deck, and mostly kept their relationship to a minimum on cameras—a first for Bravo! As they were the most familiar with the Parsifal III, the couple was the most reliable, and fans loved seeing their relationship continue blossoming post-filming.

These days, the couple has a lot to be excited about—they're now engaged. While they're soaking up their romantic bliss, they're also still working in yachting, although it's sadly on separate boats.

Byron Hissey

As the chief engineer of Parsifal III, Byron was clearly there to just do his job. But, given how he was the only cast member to have a wife and child back home, he also became the dad of the group, taking care of the other crew members.

Since filming wrapped, it looks like Byron is back on a boat doing exactly what he does best—fixing and making sure the engines run smoothly.

Parker McCown

Relatively new to the yachting industry, fans are more likely to remember the deckhand for his enraged rant about being breastfed by his mother. While he didn't necessarily have all the skills to make it as a deckhand, he definitely had a soft spot for his ex-girlfriend Kaiti, whom he eventually left Parsifal III to go back to at home.

It looks like the decision to leave the show worked out for Parker, as he's now engaged to Kaiti and writing some tunes while onshore.

Chris Miller

As Parker's replacement for the latter half of the season, Chris proved a great deckhand and an asset to the team, all while battling an injury.

These days, Chris seems to be taking some time off from yachting to travel across Europe.

Captain Glenn Sheppard

Captain Glenn was tough, fair, and not afraid to have a good time, which both crew and guests very much appreciated.

Thankfully, his reality TV experience hasn't turned him off yachting forever. Glenn is still the captain for Parsifal III and traveling through the Mediterranean.

I lived ‘below deck’ on a luxury yacht — here’s what you need to know.

Tahiti, St. Thomas and the French Riviera — I’ve yachted in all of these exotic locales, albeit from the comfort of my couch. And, millions of Americans are in the same boat.

In 2013, “Below Deck,” introduced the masses to the most glamorous mode of traveling: yachting. Since then, it’s become a Bravo mainstay with Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean’’ premiering in June.

But how real is the reality show? I spent five nights on a yacht in Croatia to find out.

A woman in a bikini standing on the deck of the 'Adriatic Escape' boat, ready to experience reality TV drama on the high seas in Maldives.

A tip on tipping

My suitcase wasn’t bursting with Benjamins. An agency at your final destination provides cash for the crew’s tip money. While you’re expected to tip $30,000 for a two-night cruise on “Below Deck,” in real life you only have to tip 10% to 15% of your charter fee. That’s about $10,000 for a two-night cruise on a 180-foot charter yacht like Mustique (from $250,000 a week), which stars in the new season.

According to Zvonimir Androić, president of the yacht charter company Via Croatia, more often than not, the tip comes from what’s left over after provisioning.

So, shun the Dom Pérignon and skip the beluga caviar, and you’ll have money to spare.

What’s up, dock?

A luxury yacht, named Adriatic Escape, docked at Split Marina with a weekly rental price of US$52,800

In real life, “Below Deck’s” favorite commercial-break cliff-hanger isn’t nearly as dramatic. Docking in our yacht, Via Croatia’s five-cabin, 100-foot Adriatic Escape (from $52,800 a week), was breezy.

I asked the crew if they hated setting up the slide — a tortuous, Herculean task if you believe what you see on TV.

“It’s not that bad,” a twentysomething Croatian deckhand, as cute as his on-screen counterparts, told me. “That said, we’re definitely not sad if you don’t ask for it.”

Play it cool

Barbie Pascual arranging a table on the set of Below Deck Season 11.

Despite being served meat on more than one occasion, my vegetarian co-guests on board weren’t divas when it came to cuisine — a major source of chef-related stress on the show.

Tantrums aren’t the norm Barbie Pascual, the “Below Deck” stewardess famous for putting up with former “RHONY” star Jill Zarin’s demands for the perfect Diet Coke in the “Real Housewives of Grenada” episode, tells me. “Guests know they are being filmed so their reactions are more extreme than they’d be if the cameras weren’t around,” she says.

Pascual’s biggest tip for first-time yachters? Don’t go skinny dipping, like they do on the show, after dark.

“People forget about currents, sharks, etc.,” she says. “Jumping in the water should always be with the captain’s consent!”

Our humorless Croatian yacht captain was a far cry from “Below Deck Mediterranean’s” affable Captain Sandy Yawn. I think we only saw him twice over the course of four days, and he definitely didn’t join us for dinner.

That was fine by us because the stews and deckhands were always handy with anything we needed — including at chat.

Asking for it

A group of people on the Adriatic Escape boat, available for weekly rent at $52,800

“No” is a word you’ll never hear on a yacht, unless there is a safety issue, Pascual says.

While we didn’t ask our crew to do a striptease or decorate for ‘70s night (two recurring requests on the show), out-there demands aren’t out of the question, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

For example, Via Croatia is currently retrofitting one of its multimillion-dollar superyachts for an upcoming charter booked by a multigenerational Jewish family from Florida.

“In addition to paying the charter fee, the client is literally buying everything new: pots, pans, silverware, et cetera,” said Androić. “They’re even spending $30,000 on a new tender for the elderly mother-in-law.”

Now, I’m no reality show producer, but a picky primary trying to keep his wife, her elderly mom and their kosher kids happy at sea has the makings of an Emmy Award-winning episode.

Yachting on a budget

Agape Rose, an ultra luxury mini cruiser yacht with various amenities, sailing on Croatia's Adriatic coast.

Charters are cheapest at the beginning and end of a destination’s season. Via Croatia’s yuppiest yacht, the 160-foot, 12-cabin Agape Rose , fetches $200,000 a week in July and August. But it’s just $164,000 a week in April and October. Divide that by 24 of your closest friends and family and it’s just $6,800 a person.

If that’s still too much, consider booking a yacht club suite on one of MSC Cruises ’ Mediterranean voyages.

Sure, you’ll be on a cruise liner, but for $1,659 a person you’ll be treated to seven nights of private butler service with a private pool and restaurant that the pleb passengers don’t even know exists.

Here's what we know about why a luxury sailing boat sank off the coast of Sicily

CNNWire logo

Emergency workers in southern Italy are still hunting for six people missing after a tornado sank a luxury yacht early Monday - prompting an air and naval operation off the coast of Sicily.

Fifteen people were rescued from the wreckage, according to Italy's Coast Guard. One body was recovered on Monday and four more on Wednesday, after divers struggled to reach deep inside the yacht around 50 meters underwater (approximately 150 feet).

Two Americans and four Britons were among the six initially reported missing - including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, a prominent lawyer.

Here's what we know.

What happened?

A small waterspout - a type of tornado - spun over the Mediterranean island early Monday, likely capsizing the sailing boat amid lashings of rain and strong thunderstorms.

The British-flagged yacht, called the "Bayesian," was anchored about a half a mile from the port of Porticello, on Sicily's northern coast. The vessel sank after its mast broke in half in the storm, Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily's Civil Protection, told CNN on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses described furious gales and hurricane-like winds that left an avalanche of debris near the pier.

More than a dozen survivors were spotted in the area hanging onto life rafts, according to the captain of a nearby boat, who steadied his ship to avoid colliding with the Bayesian.

"We got this strong hurricane gust and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position," Karsten Bower told reporters in Palermo on Monday. "After the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone."

Bower and his crew rescued four injured people, he said, before calling Italy's Coast Guard - who later rescued the remaining survivors.

One of those rescued - a child - was airlifted to the children's hospital in Palermo. Eight people were hospitalized in total, according to the mayor's office.

The girl's mother, Charlotte, described how she battled to hold onto Sofia, her 1-year-old daughter, as reported by Italian news agency ANSA.

"In two seconds I lost the baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amidst the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy," she told journalists. "Many were screaming."

The mother and daughter were later reunited with the father, James, according to a doctor at the local children's hospital in Palermo.

"The survivors are very tired and are constantly asking about the missing people," the doctor, Domenico Cipolla, said Monday. "They are talking and crying all the time because they have realized that there is little hope of finding their friends alive."

Italy's fire brigade dispatched helicopters to aid in the search, officials said Monday. After an unsuccessful attempt on Monday, the brigade sent divers to try and enter the sunken ship Tuesday, recommencing the operation on Wednesday.

The depth of the wreck means divers can only work there for limited periods of time, according to Marco Tilotta, an inspector for the diving unit of Palermo's local fire brigade. The Italian fire brigade said Monday its divers had reached the yacht's hull 49 meters (160 feet) below sea level.

The United Kingdom's Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said it has deployed a team of four inspectors to Palermo which is conducting a preliminary assessment of the scene.

Who was on board?

Twenty-two people were on board the Bayesian, which was flying under a British flag and had mostly British passengers and crew, in addition to two Anglo-French, one Irish and one Sri Lankan person, a spokesperson for Italy's Coast Guard told CNN.

A troupe of high-profile guests are among those missing, including Lynch, the 59-year-old British tech investor who fought a fraud case earlier this year in the United States - which spiraled from the disastrous $11 billion sale of his company to tech firm Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011.

His 18-year-old daughter was also named missing. Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, survived the accident. Bacares told Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica that she woke up at 4 a.m. local time, as the boat tilted. She and her husband were not initially concerned, she said, but became worried when the windows of the yacht shattered and chaos erupted.

RELATED: Divers find 4 bodies during search of superyacht wreckage after it sank off Sicily, 2 still missing

Bacares spoke to the newspaper while sitting in a wheelchair, at a hospital in the Sicilian town of Termini Imerese. She had abrasions on her feet and bandages on other parts of her body, it reported.

Bloomer, the finance tycoon, and Morvillo, a prominent lawyer - and both their wives - are also among the missing, according to Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily's Civil Protection.

Morvillo, an American partner at Clifford Chance, was involved in successfully defeating the US fraud case against Lynch in June. Another employee of the firm, Ayla Ronald, and her partner, survived the incident, according to a spokesperson for Clifford Chance.

The body that was recovered from the vessel on Monday was identified as the onboard chef Ricardo Thomas, an Antiguan citizen, Reuters reported.

What do we know about the boat?

Built in 2008, the 56-meter (184-foot) yacht was manufactured by Italian company Perini Navi, Reuters reported. According to the Associated Press, the boat has been available for charter for $215,000 (195,000) per week.

Lynch's wife is linked to the yacht. The Bayesian is held by the company Revtom Limited, according to records from the maritime information service Equasis. The company's latest annual return from April lists Bacares as the proprietor.

"Bayesian," the name given to the vessel, is linked to the statistical theory on which Lynch built his fortune, according to Reuters.

The yacht's mast stood 72.27 meters (237 feet) high above the designated water line, just short of the world's tallest mast which is 75.2 meters, according to Guinness World Records. It was the tallest aluminium mast in the world, the Perini Navi website said.

Perini Navi is known for making "good quality boats," according to Caroline White, deputy editor of BOAT International, a media group serving the superyacht industry.

White told CNN that if the Bayesian dismasted, "it should theoretically become more stable." "But it might be a different story if you are in the middle of a violent storm with incredibly strong winds pinning you to the water," she added.

Dangerous weather conditions

Strong storms across Sicily brought torrential rainfall late Sunday. Initial reports suggest a small waterspout, which developed over the area Monday morning, could have been behind the yacht's sinking.

Waterspouts - one of several types of tornadoes - are spinning columns of air that form over water, or move from land out to water. They are often accompanied by high winds, high seas, hail and dangerous lightning. While they are most common over tropical oceans, they can form almost anywhere.

Matthew Schanck, chair of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, told CNN that while waterspouts in Sicily are rare, "there is a risk" they can happen - just not every day.

Waterspouts rely on warm waters to gain energy and the Mediterranean Sea has been very hot, reaching a record daily median of 28.9 degrees Celsius (84 Fahrenheit) last week, according to preliminary data from researchers at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Spain.

Local temperatures have been even higher, with waters around Sicily reaching almost 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), almost 3 degrees more than normal, Italian climatologist Luca Mercalli told CNN.

"Warmer oceans have more energy and more humidity to transfer to the atmosphere, the most important fuels for storms," he said.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

Below deck sailing yacht should be on damage control (did gary king ruin the show's reputation), the fate of below deck sailing yacht after season 5 isn't promising (the show's reputation is damaged).

  • Gary King's sexual misconduct allegations have cast a shadow over the future of Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
  • Despite his problematic behavior, Gary has continued to film for the upcoming season of the show.
  • The handling of Gary's actions has raised questions about the show's direction and the potential for a cast shakeup.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht 's future is uncertain after First Officer Gary King 's sexual misconduct allegations. Gary premiered in the franchise in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2 under Captain Glenn Shephard. Gary came into the franchise with more than 10 years of experience in the yachting industry when he joined Parsifal III in 2021. Gary showcased his abilities as a leader and demonstrated his prowess on deck and familiarity with sailboats. He quickly made friends with Captain Glenn, and the two have become close friends over the years.

Outside of his abilities on deck, Gary proved to provide highly entertaining reality TV. The playboy did not shy away from developing boatmances, and his player attitude has drama for him every season. Gary hails from South Africa and is currently 35 years old. On the show, Gary most notably made waves for his friendship turned situationship with Below Deck Sailing Yacht Chief Stew, Daisy Kelliher . The pair have had a contentious working relationship and an even more complicated friendship. However, there are bigger problems than his relationship with Daisy that are affecting the franchise as a whole.

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Gary's Sexual Misconduct Allegations Explained

The incident happened in summer 2022.

Allegations from Below Deck makeup artist Samantha Suarez against Gary came out in August 2023. She detailed an incident that took place during the filming of Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, which filmed in the Summer of 2022. She alleged that while Gary had COVID-19 and was isolating in a hotel prior to the season's filming, he trapped her in his hotel room and attempted to block her exit while grabbing her from behind. She got away from his attempts at physically retraining her and left the room. She then reported it to the network.

Gary and the Below Deck franchise have seemingly taken no responsibility for the incident. The network claims the allegations were investigated and that " action was taken based on the findings." The only reprimand Gary has appeared to have was Bravo pulling him from BravoCon 2023. On Gary's side of things, he doesn't believe he is getting a fair shake and is denying that the incident happened. In a quickly-deleted Instagram comment from Gary, he showcased his lack of awareness and culpability.

"It’s so weird, it’s also so far from the truth. She always wanted a platform and unfortunately I’m the unlucky target." Gary continued, "I’m not going to let some lying girl get to me… read that article fully, multiple times, and this happened to her on multiple seasons … seems odd."

Since the allegations have surfaced, Gary has continued to post on social media, although he has steered clear of the misconduct topic after his off-handed Instagram comment. Gary's already-negative reputation has gone further down the drain since the claims surfaced and its fallout. Not only has Gary damaged his own standing among viewers and within the franchise, but his behavior has affected the future of Below Deck Sailing Yacht due to the handling of the situation.

Gary Has Been A Below Deck Franchise Villain

Gary has had outrageous behavior.

The sexual misconduct allegation is another mark against Gary's already terrible image. Gary has conducted himself in his boatmances with little to no regard for the other person's feelings. Gary comes off as selfish, impulsive, and irresponsible. In Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 2, Gary originally hooked up with his deckhand, Sydney Zoruba, who quickly developed feelings for Gary. Gary threw her to the side and made the charter season more awkward and uncomfortable by getting into boatmance with stewardess Ali Dore.

Gary has a habit of going after multiple women each season and shooting his shot in rude and disrespectful ways.

Gary also stirred the pot in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 4, when he divulged that he and Daisy had secretly hooked up. Daisy was in a relationship with Gary's BFF, and Parsifal III's engineer, Colin MacRae. Gary seems to always top his bad behavior with no regard for the consequences or people's feelings. Gary is also a heavy drinker on the show during crew nights out or in, which only contributes to his negative image.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Is Returning

It's slated for fall 2024.

Bravo 's Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 should have returned in the Spring of 2024. However, Below Deck Med season 9 took its place, even though Below Deck Med season 8 had ended in January 2024. The skipping of BDSY season 5 was likely due to Gary's sexual misconduct allegations and the strategy of Bravo as to how they were going to handle it. The network could have tried to edit Gary out of the season, as they had done with publically marred crew member Peter "Pete" Hunziker in Below Deck Med season 5.

The other route Bravo might have taken, was to scrap already-filmed season 5 completely, in favor of filming an entirely new season without Gary. While that would be the more costly of the two options, it could get the BDSY franchise back in fans' good standings. In any case, Gary has affected the Below Deck Sailing Yacht schedule , and fans have been upset that he even returned to film season 5 given his bad history.

Will Gary Be A Part Of Season 5?

Are there any returning cast.

Gary did film Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, and Daisy was also rumored to have returned for the season. Recently, Daisy shared a carousel of pictures hanging out with Gary, solidifying to fans that they are still in each other's lives. Besides that, in a recent preview of what Bravo has in store for the Fall of 2024, a logo for Below Deck Sailing Yacht was present. That means that Below Deck Sailing Yacht will remain a spinoff in the franchise , but it remains to be seen if Gary will continue to be a part of it.

Gary's actions and behavior over the years has damaged fans perceptions of Below Deck Sailing Yacht .

If they ditch their connection with Gary, there is hope for a brighter future with more quality cast members. For now, Daisy is well-liked and the Chief Stew of the spinoff, but that could change as she's aligned herself with Gary. It is likely there will be a lot of fresh faces in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, and that can only help the show's image.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht will return in the Fall of 2024.

‘Below Deck’s 8 Worst Guests Of All-Time: From Jill Zarin To Delores The Midnight Swimmer

Where to stream:.

  • Captain Lee

‘Below Deck’ Alum Captain Lee Rosbach Doesn’t Hold Back About Why His Relationship With ‘Summer House’ Star Carl Radke Disintegrated: “It Didn’t Sit Well With Me”

Captain lee rosbach enters his true-crime era with oxygen’s ‘deadly waters’, ‘below deck’ alum captain lee rosbach teams up with oxygen for new true-crime series ‘deadly waters with captain lee’: watch the trailer , ‘below deck’ chief stew fraser olender has a “love interest” of his own this season: “i’ve always been a third wheel”.

Demanding charter guests are a given while working on a mega-yacht — and the various Below Deck crews over the years have certainly experienced their fair share of them. Whether it’s Jill Zarin requesting special ice for her Diet Cokes or Timothy Sykes retracting a portion of the crew’s tip right in front of Captain Lee Rosbach , the yachties are always in for some kind of treat — or headache.

In the 11 seasons of Below Deck, nine seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean , four seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and two seasons of Below Deck Down Under , Captain Lee, Captain Sandy Yawn , Captain Kerry Titheradge , Captain Glenn Shephard , Captain Jason Chambers and their staffs have encountered plenty of high-maintenance guests aboard their respective vessels.

We somehow managed to pick a handful of guests who have infamously given the crew members a run for their money — but let it be known that it was no easy task to narrow down the abundant slate of finicky charters.

Aside from the ones we previously mentioned, we can’t forget the time lawyer Erica Rose and her husband caused quite the splash on Below Deck Sailing Yacht with their obnoxious and combative criticism of the chef’s food. Or when Below Deck chef Rachel Hargrove was forced to concoct blended versions of each meal (lobster included) to appease a recently injured woman who had her jaw wired shut.

In case you need more of a refresher, we gathered a roundup of eight of the most difficult charter guests in Below Deck history. Check them out below!

Jill Zarin ( Below Deck Season 11, Episode 9)

The Below Deck crew was just about ready to make Jill Zarin walk the plank when she appeared as a guest of the primary in a Season 11 episode. The Real Housewives of New York City alum had the interior team frazzled as she complained about everything from the food to the lack of toiletry baskets in each cabin. She even suggested that chief stew Fraser Olender purchase a button so she could call on him any time she had a request. And it bears repeating that she wasn’t even the primary guest!

Barbie Pascual described Zarin as a “freeloading guest who’s extremely demanding,” while Olender said, “Jill is crawling into my brain and eating away at my soul.”

Delores ( Below Deck Season 8, Episode 11)

Captain Lee was heated when guest Delores defied his commands and drunkenly jumped into the water in the middle of the night. The Below Deck icon told the primary guests that their “charter [was] over,” before forcing his crew to stand guard outside Delores’ room to make sure she didn’t come out again. “First thing in the morning, I’ll drag everybody’s ass back to the dock and kick their ass to the curb,” he said in his confessional. “We’re not taking those risks. Not on my boat.”

The next morning, Lee allowed the primaries to remain on the yacht as long as they sent Delores packing.

Erica Rose and Charles Sanders ( Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3, Episode 4)

American lawyer Erica Rose and her obnoxious husband Charles Sanders were one of the worst primaries the Below Deck franchise has encountered to date. During their stay on the sailing yacht, Sanders aggressively complained about his food, claiming McDonald’s could’ve served a better omelet than the high-end chef on board. He also bickered with their fellow guests, nearly causing a physical fight when he referred to his friend’s wife as a “bitch.” Plus, someone stained the $50,000 white couch with tan body makeup. And just when everyone thought things couldn’t get any worse, they left an insultingly low tip ($6,500, to be exact) for the entire crew to split.

Timothy Sykes ( Below Deck Season 2, Episode 10)

Even Captain Lee remembers Timothy Sykes as the worst charter guest he’s ever dealt with. Sykes, a 32-year-old entrepreneur who wears shirts with his own name on them, flew to the dock via helicopter with his 19-year-old girlfriend. After spending most of his trip complaining about the yacht’s internet issues and chef Ben Robinson’s food, he infamously deducted $5,000 off the tip, which was initially a whopping $22,000.

Chelsea ( Below Deck Season 9, Episode 9)

Chef Rachel Hargrove had her work cut out for her when one of the primary guests in Below Deck Season 9, Episode 9 came onboard with her jaw wired shut. Chelsea, who had recently suffered a bicycle accident, had multiple “meltdowns” when her liquified food did not come out at the same time as everyone else’s meals.

Mahisha Dellinger ( Below Deck Med Season 9, Episode 11)

Aesha Scott couldn’t have been happier that television host Mahisha Dellinger booked a short charter. Upon entering the mega-yacht, Dellinger forced the interior team to move the sky deck’s couches, which she called an “eye sore,” so she and her friends could take photos. Nothing was quite right for Dellinger, who later complained that the caviar tasted like a “washcloth.” Her friend Neysla Paltsev even attempted to jump on the bandwagon by criticizing the utensils they were provided at dinner. When Scott proved her wrong, Paltsev fired back that their “caviar service sucked.”

Athena Lucene ( Below Deck Med Season 6, Episode 7)

Athena Lucene certainly wasn’t an awful guest, but she sure did keep the crew on their toes. Hosting an entrepreneur retreat for her clients, Lucene expected immediate gratification at all times. When chef Matthew Shea held off a few extra minutes on dinner to wait for all the guests to sit down at the table, an impatient Lucene took it upon herself to go into the galley and ask what the holdup was. She then forced chief stew Katie Flood to move her seat to the head of the table as she felt “awkward” sitting on the side, before requesting that the already-behind chef whip up a last-minute salad for everyone. Lucene was also “disappointed” with the cakes Shea decorated, though, to be fair, they were underwhelming.

Brandy ( Below Deck Season 7, Episodes 3 & 4)

The Below Deck crew has dealt with tons of drunk charter guests. But Brandy, who appeared in the show’s seventh season, might have been the most terrifying. Having clearly gone a tad overboard on the champagne (no pun intended), an unconscious Brandy was swiftly hauled away from the beach picnic to see a medic on the yacht. However, her friends seemed unfazed as they didn’t let her episode ruin their time on the island.
