Tailor-made boats

"If there's no solution, there's no problem." With the motto Shadok on the front page of his website, naval architect Luc Bouvet announces the colour. Specialized in custom boat projects, the designer works for private or professional boaters. "They come to me with precise specifications. My job is to go from five-legged sheep to four-legged sheep," explains Luc Bouvet. From a motor catamaran inspired by the famous Italian runabouts Riva, to a 101-foot yacht for charter in the southern seas and a sea skiff, the projects are varied.

From technical studies to complete boat plans

Luc Bouvet adapts his services to the client's expectations. Surrounded by qualified partners, such as designer Clifford Denn, he can carry out a complete study for the construction of a new boat, sail or motor. Commissioned by maritime experts, consultants or shipyards, it also carries out technical studies on the dimensioning, stability or survey of a vessel whose file is incomplete. Luc Bouvet also offers his services as project manager, ensuring communication between the client, the builder and the designer, as he did for the catamaran-workshop project of the marine painter Titouan Lamazou.

A solid experience

Trained in the cabinet of naval architect Martin Francis between 1981 and 1985, Luc Bouvet worked with Daniel Andrieu on the design of Yves Pajot's 12 mJI"Challenge France" for the America's Cup in 1986. He then joined Olivier Petit in 1987. Their fruitful collaboration lasted until 1998. His relations with sailors Jean-Louis Etienne and Titouan Lamazou led to famous yachts signed by Bouvet and Petit, such as the Ecureil d'Aquitaine series, including the winner of the first Vendée Globe, or the polar schooner Antactica, now Tara.

Independent since 1998, Luc Bouvet presents many references, from river boats to aluminium offshore sailing boats, from replicas of wooden boats to the refit of racing yachts.

Des bateaux sur-mesure

"S'il n'y a pas de solution, c'est qu'il n'y a pas de problème." Avec la devise Shadok à la une de son site internet, l' architecte naval Luc Bouvet annonce la couleur. Spécialisé dans les projet de bateaux sur-mesure, le concepteur travaille pour des plaisanciers particuliers ou des professionnels. "Ils viennent me voir avec un cahier des charges précis. Mon travail est de partir du mouton à 5 pattes pour arriver à 4 pattes !" explique Luc Bouvet. Du catamaran à moteur inspiré des célèbres runabout italiens Riva, au voilier de 101 pieds pour faire du charter dans les mers du sud en passant par une yole de mer, les projets sont variés.

De l'étude technique au plans de bateaux complets

Luc Bouvet adapte ses prestations aux attentes du client. Entouré par des partenaires qualifiés, comme le designer Clifford Denn, il peut effectuer une étude complète pour la construction d'un nouveau bateau, à voile ou à moteur. Missionné par des experts maritimes, des consultants ou des chantiers navals, il réalise également des études techniques sur le dimensionnement, la stabilité ou le relevé d'un bateau dont le dossier serait incomplet. Luc Bouvet offre aussi ses services comme project manager, assurant la communication entre le client, le constructeur et le concepteur, comme il l'a fait pour le projet de catamaran-atelier du peintre marin Titouan Lamazou.

Une expérience solide

Sleeping 12 passengers and 6 qualified crew, sailing yacht TARA was formerly named Uap-Antarctica; Antarctica; Antarctic Explorer; Seamaster. She is a traditional converted private yacht. The graceful superyacht has been brought about with naval architects Luc Bouvet and Olivier Petit.

The Building & Designing with respect to Luxury Yacht TARA

Luc Bouvet was the naval architect involved in the professional superyacht plans for TARA. Luc Bouvet and Olivier Petit is also associated with the yacht general design work for this boat. Created at Societe Francaise De nstruction Naval (Sfcn) this vessel was fabricated within France. She was officially launched in Villeneuve-La-Garenne in 1989 before being transferred to the owner. The main hull was crafted from aluminium. The sailing yacht superstructure component is fabricated mostly using aluminium. With a width of 9.85 metres / 32.3 feet TARA has spacious room. A deep draught of 3.5m (11.5ft) determines the list of certain harbours she can enter, depending on their specific depth. She had refit maintenance and modification carried out in 2000.

DESCRIPTION

Built in 1989 in Nice in the south of France by Pasqui shipyard, one of the too rare boats designed by Bouvet/ Petit, Argo is now for sale.

While Bouvet & Petit are more known for their success in designing winning racing boats, Argo is a perfect demonstration of these innovatively minded architects. The 43 foot hull, made from wood-epoxy, and 20mm of red cedar and mahogany combine rigidity and lightness.

The whole boat is extremely light; only about 5.5 tons including 2.5 tons of ballast embedded in the bilge for stability, since this boat has no keel but a centreboard.

The draft therefore is minimised (less than 1 metre) and the wet surface can be reduced significantly under running wind conditions.

The double rudder helps keep her well on track. It also reduces the draft and being fixed at a 10 degree angle on each side of the axis of the boat, works well when the boat is heeling.

With a fractional rig and 52 square metre main sail. A huge sail for this size boat! The small jib is self-tacking with a second overlaying jib for lighter air.

The many other Bouvet & Petit original features include –

An open cockpit which can be used as a diving platform and the size has been calculated to be a sleeping area when too hot inside.

Inside, the sitting area seats 8 and faces onto a large window on the cockpit with a view of the sea!

No partitions inside with lots of headroom, gives a real feeling of space when moving about in the boat.

Great attention has been paid to the weight balance of the boat. The engine is fixed close to the centre of gravity of the boat and the windlass and its chain stored more than 2 metres from the bow, in the bilge.

A beautifully crafted, elegant boat, easy to sail and fast, which was home to a Franco-Australian family sailing around the world.

Now lying in Pittwater.

Le moteur vient d’être entièrement reconstruit, il roule avec moins de 5 heures de fonctionnement.

En tant que charpentier de marine, j’ai construit plusieurs voiliers dans les années 1975, . Après avoir effectué plusieurs rénovations sur de belles unités de gréements anciens, j’ai entrepris la construction du « Steve II » fin 1998, plan Bouvet-Petit, dérivé des plans de forme de l’Ecureuil d’Aquitaine (premier Boc Challenge de Titouan Lamazou, version maison). Son aménagement est destiné à la navigation de plaisance, à la croisière en famille, aux voyages au long cours. En effet, j’ai navigué pendant dix ans en Méditerranée (Grèce, Italie, Espagne, Corse et Sardaigne). Mon voilier est très marin, très confortable, agréable tant à la voile qu’au mouillage, facile à naviguer (souvent en solo)
