Fairly well protected moorings. Launch available and operators very responsive. Restaurant open on the weekends. A few small stores within walking distance.

Loved our stay. Staff is great. Moorings are nice as long as wind isn't out of the S or SW then gets Rolly. Cute town. Close to NYC by mass transit. Only problem is lack of internet in the mooring field. Will visit again!

Stayed for a brief overnight before a trip down the East River. Got a mooring right near the club dock so it was a very short launch ride. Mike, the launch driver, was very friendly. Took a quick walk around this unique part of NYC. Very interesting. Didn't use any of the shore facilities so can not comment on that.

We stayed with City Island Yacht Club on one of their transient mooring balls for a couple weeks. They provide a tender boat to pick you up from your boat. I believe their hours are 8AM to midnight. They also have a dock if you want to use your own dinghy. The bay here can get quite rough with extensive fetch to the S, SW, and W. There is a fair amount of wake from passing boats. There is a fair amount of noise from passing boats. Somehow you can hear their music long before you can see them. The view of the city is neat, but quite far off. There is mass transit at the street intersection that the yacht club is on, and I was able to get from the boat, to Central Park in less than 2 hours. There is a nice grocery store on the island - CTown Supermarkets. It's a fair walk or short bus ride. There is also a decent little marine supply store as well, though it's quite a walk or a nice bus ride. Bridge Marine Supply. There are MANY tourist seafood restaurants on the island. They're all kind of pricey. Getting off the main street and out into the neighborhood streets is a really pleasant walk. The north side of the island is a bit nicer, but it's all kind of neat to see. I don't believe this yacht club gets many long term (more than a couple days) guests. Everyone we talked to was surprised we were there for so long. I'm not sure I'd stay here again as there are so many other options around, but I'm glad I got to see it once :)

  • Caitlin S. September 20, 2022, 3:04 am This place is an absolute dream venue!!! We were there to do hair for a wedding and I can't wait to go back. The bridal suite is amazing and I've never seen something so gorgeous. If your looking to get married somewhere breathtaking by the water this place is it! 0 0 Reply

  • Kelsey &. June 25, 2022, 12:22 am Our wedding at Mallard Island Yacht Club was truly a DREAM come true. The entire Merri-Makers team is completely unmatched. The most BEAUTIFUL venue, the most DELICIOUS food, kindest staff. You truly cannot go wrong with any of the Merri-Makers venues. Gianna was our wedding consultant and is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. We actually had the privilege of working with Gianna 5 years before at my husband's sister's wedding. Gianna was working over at the Ashford and remembered us during our first virtual tour of Mallard. Made it that much more special to work with Gianna for our big day as well. She was amazing with any question, answering every email quickly and answering every call. Never made me feel like any of my questions were silly and always had me feeling reassured at the end. When it came to the actually wedding day, Gianna and Nancy made me feel totally at ease all day (and that was with weather alerts saying TORNADO warnings.. We were fine but the bride was STRESSED) Every member of the Merri-makers team is SO professional and SO kind! My bridal assistants for the day were able to keep me calm walking to aisle. The bartenders always remembered what I was drinking. I was treated like an actual princess all day. The FOOD.. I still have guests calling me a month later to tell me that the food was the most amazing food they've ever had. We sprung for the premium package and it was absolutely worth it. Cocktail hour was absolutely amazing.. but once dinner came out everyone was ready to eat again! We are so happy with our choice to stay with the Merri-Maker family and will never run out of good things to say. … – show 0 0 Reply

  • Neha S. October 16, 2021, 8:04 pm I had my (Indian) wedding at the Mallard in September and it was a dream come true. When it came to wedding planning, the venue was the most important factor for me. I wanted it to be somewhere truly magical with its own beauty, outdoors, and by the water. The Mallard hit all those marks and more! Not to mention, the bridal suite is a big plus:) But once you book, that's when the real magic happens. Gianna is a GOD SEND. She helped me coordinate everything and was there to answer every little q uestion or request I had. And then the day of the wedding, the staff blew me away with their execution, compassion and overall grace. They were there to help me every step of the way. The day could not have been what it was without them. All my wedding guests raved about the venue saying it was the best wedding they have been to! Even the full moon came out to play- it really was a dream. … – show 0 0 Reply

  • Cal P. July 12, 2021, 2:04 am Absolutely fantastic food, and large party service. It’s hard to cater for large events and parties, but their chef is meticulous, and really ensures high quality. They are very well staffed, and absolutely ready to serve their guests. More businesses can learn from their example. On top of that, the venue is beautiful, and well maintained. 0 0 Reply
  • Caroline T. June 28, 2021, 8:12 pm Absolutely gorgeous setting, and every detail was perfect. As a guest of a wedding I thought the food was served a tiny bit late but that may have been the bride and not the staff. Otherwise, beautiful event. 0 0 Reply
  • 72ocutter June 22, 2021, 4:08 am We attended a wedding here over Father's Day weekend. The architecture was beautiful as well as the grounds. Opulent barely scratches the surface when describing the beautiful decorations here. We were given a tour of the bridal suite and my jaw dropped. There were beautiful views in every direction you looked either inside or outside. 0 0 Reply

  • Jordan B. March 25, 2020, 3:52 am Mallard Island Yacht Club is honestly one of the best venues in all of New Jersey! Everything is onsite and it makes it super easy for you. The bridal suite is probably the most insanely elegant space you will ever see. I don't even know how high the ceilings are but you could fly a plane through it there's so much room. The ceremony space outside is incredible and rain or shine it is perfect. Also if its hot they can open the barn doors to give more air flow. The cocktail hour space is g orgeous and its all a tease until you get up to the main room with beautiful views of the bay! The food, staff, venue are all top notch and can't wait to be there again! … – show 0 0 Reply
  • Jennifer M. March 8, 2020, 4:52 pm I’ve been to two weddings here and the venue is always beautiful. Large wrap around deck for outside views of the bay as well as the cute waterside barn where the ceremonies are held. Nice fire pit for more intimate gatherings. Food is good too. This was my perceptions as a guest, not sure what it’s like to work with the venue to plan an event. 0 0 Reply
  • Bradley M. January 2, 2020, 10:24 am Having spent a lot of time with similar bayside venues across coastal NY and NJ, I have mixed feelings about this location. On one hand, there are great views of the bay. And the classic nautical feel, along with well appointed grounds, with a modern and well maintained atmosphere are a joy to the senses. Not to mention to the photographer's joy. Just look at the photos of the venue and you'll be able to get a sense of what you would enjoy on your upcoming event. And now this writing has a crit ical role too. As amidst the beautiful settings of land and sea, I can't help feel that the model of your satisfaction is based upon the above-mentioned beautiful settings while at the expense of providing an unexpected level of culinary arts boredom. The food was flair without substance. Yet many people will be extremely grateful for the opportunity to have their event at the venue and if you want to explore the possibility, then by all means please check it out. … – show 0 0 Reply

Decaying Charlottetown seawall getting major upgrades

Repairs are welcomed by charlottetown yacht club, business owner.

'It's about time': Charlottetown's aging seawall poised to get major fixes

Social sharing.

Work to repair the crumbling seawall around the Charlottetown Yacht Club is underway, thanks to $5.5 million in funding from three levels of government, the Charlottetown Area Development Corporation and the club itself.

The plan calls for deteriorating wood and metal to be replaced with concrete, with the wharf's height rising by roughly 0.9 to 1.2 metres.

Local businesses and boaters say the current seawall, designed to prevent sections of earth from eroding into the harbour, is falling apart.

Jenna Shinn, a co-owner of the Salt & Sol restaurant, said the seawall does a poor job of keeping water away from the building during extreme weather. The restaurant is located directly above the yacht club.

"There have been days where the tide comes up almost to the deck and obviously we don't want that to happen," she said.

Shinn said the changes could attract more boats and foot traffic to the area.

Jonathan Ross has been a member of the yacht club since the early 2000s.

A woman stands inside the Salt and Sol restaurant in Charlottetown.

"If we get a storm surge, it can put my boat right up on the wharf," he said.

"And now that it's going to be extended and a little higher, it's going to make it that much more secure and safe."

He said the increase in storms is causing more washouts on the wharf at the club, and repairs are long overdue.

Stephen Cudmore, a former yacht club commodore, said large winds and high tides can wipe out large portions of the seawall, and negatively affect the nine businesses that operate around the club.

A man stands on the wharf at the Charlottetown Yacht Club.

"The minute we have a major weather event where we need to rebuild, they all skid to a halt or potentially can," he said. "It can affect a lot of businesses and a lot of people when those events occur."

The yacht club is also home to the only fuel supply station in the Charlottetown harbour. Cudmore said organizations like the coast guard and RCMP rely on the station to fill up, in addition to many fishers and tourists.

"They all rely on that fuel supply," he said. "And if we lose that wharf we lose that fuel supply, and we lose a lot of economic activity on the downtown waterfront."

Cudmore said the project is short about $500,000 at the moment, but is confident they will secure the rest.

The club is closing a little early this season due to the repairs, so all boats must be out of the water by the end of the week. Cudmore said the project should be done by next spring.

History of the Adygea Republic

The territory of Adygea has been inhabited since ancient times. Abadzehskaya Paleolithic site is located in Maykop district. Also there are a lot of archaeological sites of Bronze and Iron Ages. Maykop archaeological culture is well known.

A lot of unique items were found during the excavation of the hills near the village of Ulyap in Krasnogvardeysky district. Most of the precious items excavated while Adygea was part of Krasnodar krai and known as “Scythian gold” or “Kuban gold” can be found in museums outside of Adygea.

The indigenous Adyg population’s ancestors are considered to be ancient Meots, Sinds, Aheys, Zikhs, Kasogs, and Kerkets residing in the region. As a result of the Caucasian wars (1763-1864), the majority of the Adygs (Circassians) were exiled to the Ottoman Empire. The rest of the Adygs were settled in the lowlands, on the left bank of the Kuban River.

More Historical Facts…

Adygea was formed on July 27, 1922 as Cherkesskaya (Adygeyskaya) Autonomous Oblast (province) with the center in Krasnodar. From August 24, 1922 till August 13, 1928, it was Adygeyskaya (Cherkesskaya) Autonomous Oblast, and then Adygeyskaya Autonomous Oblast.

From August 2, 1924 till December 28, 1934, it was part of the North Caucasian krai, then, till September 13, 1937, part of Azov-Chernomorsky krai and finally - part of Krasnodar krai.

April 10, 1936, Maykop became the capital of the region. April 28, 1962, Tulsky (now Maikopsky) district of Krasnodar krai was joined to the region. October 5, 1990, Adygeyskaya Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic was declared. Since 1992, it is the Republic of Adygea.

In December 1991 - January 1992, deputies of the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Adygea were elected. It was the first Parliament in the history of Adygea. In 1993, it was reformed into Legislative Assembly (Khase) and, in 1995, - into State Council - Khase. The Constitution of the Republic of Adygea was adopted by Legislative Assembly - Khase on March 10, 1995.
