Review of Bandit 15
Basic specs..
The hull is made of fibreglass. Generally, a hull made of fibreglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. And outside the sailing season, just bottom cleaning and perhaps anti-fouling painting once a year - a few hours of work, that's all.
The boat equipped with a fractional rig. A fractional rig has smaller headsails which make tacking easier, which is an advantage for cruisers and racers, of course. The downside is that having the wind from behind often requires a genaker or a spinnaker for optimal speed.
CentreBoard
The Bandit 15 is equipped with a centreboard keel. A centreboard keel is a pivoting lifting keel, allowing to sail both coastal and inland waters.
The boat can sail close to the beach as the draft is just 0.18 - 0.28 meter (0.59 - 0.89 ft) dependent of the load. See immersion rate below.
Sailing characteristics
This section covers widely used rules of thumb to describe the sailing characteristics. Please note that even though the calculations are correct, the interpretation of the results might not be valid for extreme boats.
The immersion rate is defined as the weight required to sink the boat a certain level. The immersion rate for Bandit 15 is about 55 kg/cm, alternatively 308 lbs/inch. Meaning: if you load 55 kg cargo on the boat then it will sink 1 cm. Alternatively, if you load 308 lbs cargo on the boat it will sink 1 inch.

I have recently been offered a 15"Bandit( #385)in pretty poor condition for reconstruction. The boat owner had been deceased for about six years, and I am having trouble finding anything out about the boat. Is there anyone out there that could aid me in finding 1. Information on 2. Made in Ashtabula Ohio Hi Gary, I moved up to a H23 and still have my MFG 19. I did find some really basic stuff on the web by a guy who tried to start an owners group - but it was really nothing more than a copy of an old brochure.

MFG Boat Company
A division of MFG (Molded Fiberglass Corporation), the original contractor for the fiberglass body of the Chevrolet Corvette, based in Ohio, USA. The founder, Robert S. Morrison, apparently never wished to build, or certain SELL boats. But when a proposal to build fiberglass hulls for the Lyman (power) Boat company fell through, a Boat division (located at Union City, PA), was formed. The lineup consisted primarily of small powerboats. (MFG made power boats for Sears and Roebuck for many years.) The origins of the sail boat division are unclear. Some (early) boats are listed as being built by Anchor Reinforced Plastics. The address listing for Anchor Reinforced Plastics was Hazel Park, MI. In 1965 The company was offering the WHISTLER, PINTAIL, and TEAL under the ‘Anchor Sailboat Division’. Later the name seems to have changed to ‘SailMFG’ when the company bought the Gibbs Boat company in the early 1970’s.(At this time located in Lasalle, Michigan, USA.)
