The iconic Peninsula Hong Kong now has its own luxury yacht

peninsula hong kong yacht

The 60-foot-long cruiser, which can accommodate up to 15 hotel guests on deck, provides daily US$180 ‘sunset’ cruises and is also available for private use

First, it brought a fleet of 14 Peninsula Green Rolls-Royce Phantoms to the streets of Hong Kong.

Then it took to the skies with a customised helicopter.

Now The Peninsula Hong Kong has decided to conquer the seas by launching a brand new yacht, making it the first luxury hotel group in the city to offer three different forms of transport for its guests.

Its new vessel is a 19-metre (60-foot) Sunseeker Manhattan 60 cruiser, which contains a bedroom, large lounge area, outer lower deck and a cosy upper deck, which can accommodate up to 15 passengers.

Available to all hotel guests, The Peninsula Hong Kong is offering a two-hour “Harbour Sunset Cruise” on the cruiser with canapés and drinks from 6.30pm to 8.30pm each evening, priced at HK$1,400 (US$180) for adults and HK$600 for children.

The sunset cruise will take passengers around Victoria Harbour, and will specially feature the classic Hong Kong light show – the “Symphony of Lights” – along with music synchronised with the yacht’s sound system.

The cruiser can be also be privately chartered for HK$15,000 per hour, with a minimum booking for four hours – which would be ideal for special lunches, boat parties, or pre-wedding photo shoots.

You can even request an on-board massage therapy session from The Peninsula Spa.

The Peninsula Hong Kong’s New Sunseeker Yacht

The Peninsula Hotels brand takes transportation seriously: Its fleet of emerald green Rolls-Royces—some of which compete in Japan’s annual Rally Nippon —is a prime example. Its flagship Hong Kong property also features a dedicated helicopter, ready to whisk you to the airport and back should arrivals and departures via Rolls-Royce be too inconspicuous for you (a perk that helped the property snag a Robb Report Best of the Best nod in 1999 ). Now that very hotel is hitting the water, adding a slick Sunseeker Manhattan 60 yacht to its fleet.

If Hong Kong doesn’t immediately strike most Americans as an ideal yachting destination , the location’s new 62-foot-long yacht is actually one of the best ways to see the city—and the 200 islands that surround it. As a guest of the hotel, you can charter the Peninsula Yacht exclusively for a minimum of four hours, jetting out from Victoria Harbour to visit traditional fishing villages on Cheung Chau Island or heading over to Tung Lung Chau for a day of rock climbing. And, if you’ve got an insider connection, be sure to stop off at the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on tiny Middle Island. There, you’ll get a peek into the booming local yachting culture, along with spectacular views of the city and some of the best (and most private) beaches in the area.

While aboard, you’ll have free rein in the spacious interiors—done up in classic Peninsula style—including a split-level saloon and two spacious cabins with en suite bathrooms belowdecks, should you need a catnap or a shower after taking a dive off of the boat’s hydraulic swimming platform into the South China Sea. You can also arrange to have special amenities brought on board, including massage therapy by the Peninsula Spa. Should you wish to book a special event, catered dining from the property’s award-winning restaurants can also be organized.

If you don’t want to splash out on a private charter, you can experience the yacht in the evening aboard the Harbour Sunset cruise. During the two-hour cruise, just 15 guests will enjoy canapés and free-flowing glasses of bubbly as they watch the skyscrapers lining Victoria Harbour flicker to life (a spectacle the property “Symphony of Lights”). A lush way to kick off—or bring to a close—any Hong Kong trip.

The Peninsula Hong Kong has partnered with Simpson Yacht Charter, a division of Simpson Marine, so that the legendary hotel can offer guests and other VIPs with bespoke yacht charters in Hong Kong.

The Peninsula Hong Kong is one of the most famous hotels in the world. Opened on 11 December 1928, the luxury hotel has built its reputation on the finest traditions of service, hospitality and timeless elegance.

A new range of “land and sea” packages allow guests to select from Simpson Yacht Charter’s diverse collection of luxury yachts and super yachts and combine these with indulgent dining, wellness pampering and opulent guestrooms of The Peninsula Hong Kong.

For example, yacht day-charter guests can finish an unforgettable day at sea and end on a high note by continuing to the hotel for an overnight stay, complete with seamless Rolls-Royce transfer from the pier, pre-checked-in luggage and evening wear awaiting in guestroom, a choice of distinct cuisines and the comfort of a Peninsula guestroom with mesmerizing views.

Guests may also combine a multiple-night hotel stay with an overnight yacht charter in between or tailor their “land and sea” staycation adventure to their preference, or even create a “land, sea and air” experience with the hotel’s helicopter service right from its rooftop.

“It gives me and all the management team of Simpson Marine, great pleasure to see our collaboration with The Peninsula Hong Kong officially launched,” said Mike Simpson, Managing Director of Simpson Marine. “Simpson Marine, Asia’s leading yacht sales and charter company is delighted to offer Peninsula guests the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves on the sea around Hong Kong’s beautiful coastline on board yachts from the Simpson Yacht Charter fleet. We are also looking forward to seeing this flagship collaboration further expand regionally to The Peninsula Bangkok.”

As a special extension of this collaboration, The Peninsula Hong Kong’s culinary team will enhance each yacht voyage by creating and bringing their culinary delights aboard and served in true Peninsula style.

Mr Joseph Chong, Regional Vice-President, Asia, The Peninsula Hotels, said, “We are delighted to celebrate a pioneering partnership as The Peninsula Hong Kong joins hands with Simpson Yacht Charter. Our two brands share highly prized values and an acclaimed legacy of refined luxury service and a commitment to excellence. We believe this collaboration will provide exhilarating seaborne adventures that create truly memorable experiences for our guests.”

Alternatively, guests may combine a multi-night hotel stay with an overnight yacht charter in between, or tailor their land and sea staycation adventure to their preference. There’s even an option for land, sea and air experiences that include the hotel’s helicopter service right from its rooftop.

An extension of the partnership will see The Peninsula Hong Kong’s culinary team provide catering aboard their yacht charter, aimed at enhancing the guest experience, by creating and bringing exquisite gourmet dining on the vessel and served in true Peninsula style.

The duo also intends to expand the venture regionally to The Peninsula Bangkok.

Simpson Marine launched the first Fairline Squadron 50 in Hong Kong with a series of four afternoon cruises for media and KOIs, who were treated to champagne and high tea from The Peninsula while sampling the glamorous life in the ‘Riviera of the Orient’.

The series of events took guests from Victoria Harbour to Repulse Bay and celebrated Simpson Marine’s appointment as The Peninsula Hong Kong’s exclusive yachting partner with a collaboration that includes guest yacht charters, bespoke on-board catering and event collaborations.

Simpson Marine has been Fairline’s dealer in Hong Kong and the Philippines since 2018, and in Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar since the start of 2020.

Richard Allen, Simpson Marine’s Group General Manager, said: “Fairline is one of the most prestigious motor yacht brands in the world, with a strong British heritage, highly reputed craftsmanship and magnificent interiors.

“The yachts are renowned for their understated elegance, contemporary designs, power, performance and comfort, which is precisely what our customers want from their yachts today.”

The Squadron 50 was premiered at the 2019 Southampton International Boat Show. The unit in Hong Kong is a galley-down, two-cabin version finished in high walnut joinery, while other materials include Carrara white marble, Italian leather and satin-bronze accents.

The new exterior styling across Fairline’s 50ft range features anthracite vinyl-wrapped hardtops, with colour options of burnt orange, vivid red or electric-blue upholstery and complementing helm seats.

The Peninsula Hong Kong, China

peninsula hong kong yacht

The mothership of all The Peninsula Hotels worldwide, we expected The Peninsula Hong Kong to be the most indulgent, lavish and spectacular of all their luxury properties across the world – and we weren’t disappointed! Based on the most prime piece of real estate in Kowloon, facing Hong kong harbour, this is the very best in far eastern luxury hospitality, personified.

For close to a hundred years, The Peninsula Hong Kong has been trading off the reputation of being the Far East’s finest hotel. And it’s a reputation well earnt as the Peninsula Hong Kong is pretty flawless. It’s not for everybody, mind you, we understand that some luxury travellers, looking for more intimate and perhaps quirky vibes to this melting-pot of a city that is Hong Kong , may find this property too imposing… but despite its grand dame opulence and 300-room size, we felt that the flagship Peninsula still manages to provide a homely feel, with an ever-welcoming team of staff that is more like a family than hospitality providers.

We loved staying on the Kowloon side of the city, primarily because we got to look back at Hong Kong (and for many, this is the ‘real’ Hong Kong). And up in the lofty heights in our Superior Harbour View, Corner Suite, we got just that. Wall to wall windows made the most of the unobstructed vista over Victoria Harbour and to the contemporary city of Hong Kong beyond it – spectacular by day and enthralling by night, when the light show comes out to play. Even in our luxurious bathroom, we enjoyed a soak while drinking in the view, and some gorgeous jasmine tea (and homemade chocolate) – fine amenities to suit a fine destination.

The suite imbued the essence of travel, harking back to Hong Kong’s trading-port past – with an art-deco, steamship vibe when it came to furniture, complete with lacquer-box details and a large, embroidered cherry-blossom mural for that oriental sense of place. The layout was minimalist, clean and timeless, but still felt rich without needing to step into opulence. There’s the rest of the hotel for that.

There are more sumptuous views from the hotel’s infamous pool and spa, reason enough not to ever leave the property. And at every turn, the hotel’s amazing team were there to ensure we were enjoying ourselves, always addressing us by name, proactively acknowledging throughout that we were a couple, and second-guessing our every move – from a fluffy towel and robe appearing out of nowhere when we swam, to knowing our choice of hot drink every morning at breakfast.

We were so spoilt for choice when it came to food, we struggled to get out to eat in one of the world’s foodie capitals. Dim sum and yum cha at Spring Moon is an art – we ate here twice in two nights, ignoring what we’re told is an equally amazing Chesa (a Swiss Chalet-style restaurant serving up Alpine treats) and Gaddi, the French haute cuisine restaurant. We did check out Felix, the Phillip Starck-designed eatery at the hotel’s pinnacle, just to have a look. And it looked amazing. Equally impressive is the hotel’s institution that is afternoon tea, we people-watched locals having it, but just didn’t have the room in our already bursting bellies after lunch at Spring Moon to eat any more.

There are also many other places to graze in the hotel, or drink, that we haven’t mentioned and didn’t try. The options at the Peninsula Hong Kong are endless. But hey, when in Rome – or Hong Kong, even – don’t blame us for opting for the very best in Cantonese cuisine. Frankly, we’d do it all over again, given the chance.

The SophisticateHKGGMT +8
For the ultimate experiential journey – perhaps you have someone to impress, or want to make a proposal – take a whirlwind trip from the hotel’s double helipad and climb aboard the Peninsula Hong Kong’s private chopper for a flight of fancy over the UNESCO Hong Kong Geopark’s 400-million-years-old rock formations, as well as the shale rock cliffs of Ping Chau Island, once the centre of the island’s opium smuggling industry. Then, you’ll return by yacht, champagne or cocktail in hand as the lights switch on in the harbour. Magic. Just ask the concierge. They’ll gladly arrange it all.

The peninsula hong kong.

3 star rating

6 restaurants, bar, 2 lounges, babysitting, concierge, health club and spa, gorgeous indoor pool and sun terrace overlooking harbor, room service, music-practice room w/grand piano, free Wi-Fi

Fromm rating star

This is Hong Kong's legendary grand dame, built in 1928 to accommodate overland train passengers traveling through China and disembarking at nearby Kowloon Station (long-since demolished). Hong Kong's oldest hotel, it's still a venerable relic of the past, with a gilded lobby famous for afternoon tea, white-gloved doormen, and one of the world's largest fleets of Rolls-Royces (Gatsby wannabes can arrive in style by ordering pickup service—complete with free Wi-Fi—from the airport). Yet the hotel is also stunningly up to date, with room renovations completed in 2013 that make it one of the most high-tech accommodations in the world, including Wi-Fi that's probably the fastest imaginable in a hotel. In-room smart tablets, which with the push of a button can be set to one of 11 languages that instantly changes all in-room communication to that language, control everything from light switches to TVs in the room and bathroom with their 90-plus channels and free HD movie selections, and also provide access to hotel menus, concierge service, flight information, free VOiP international calls, and a guide to the city. For the best views, spring for a room in the tower, added in 1994, facing the harbor. And if you can tear yourself away from your room, you might enjoy afternoon tea in its famous lobby, the luxurious spa with harbor views from its sauna and some treatment rooms, or the hotel's Academy programs offering cooking classes, feng shui consultations, expert-led tours of the local art scene, helicopter rides directly from the rooftop to the New Territories followed by lunch on a yacht, and more (all of which, of course, come with a price).
