At  our next meeting, we will vote on the following Bylaw Change.

Summary:  The most senior member can choose whatever slip he or she wishes to rent from the available slip.

Bylaws ARTICLE XVIII (Current)

Section IV — The Pier Chairperson may arrange the temporary assignment of slips to members who are unable to obtain a permanent slip due to seniority. A member whose dockage has been paid in full by March 31st may notify the Pier Chairperson to offer his/her permanently assigned slip for temporary assignment to another member for that season. Such slips will be utilized strictly according to seniority. First, according to the members who are offering their slips for temporary assignment; second, according to members without a permanent slip; and then, if there are any slips still available for temporary assignment, they will be made available to members who desire a second slip, by seniority.

Any member whose slip is temporarily assigned to another member for that season shall be reimbursed one half of the dockage fee by the Club for that season and will retain claim to that slip. The member accepting temporary assignment of a slip shall pay the full dockage fee and will have neither claim on that slip nor any special consideration in the regular slip assignment process.

Bylaws ARTICLE XVIII (Proposed)

Section IV — After the May Membership meeting the Pier Chairperson will lease available slips to members who were unable to obtain a permanent slip assignment due to lack of seniority.

A member whose slip has been paid in full by March 31st may notify the Pier Chairperson to offer his/her permanently assigned slip for temporary assignment to another club member for that season. The leased slips will be assigned as follows:

First members without a permanent slip my select a leased slip for the season, by seniority. If there are any slips available for temporary assignment, they will be made available to members who desire a leased slip, by seniority of the member's selecting a slip. All members seeking a second slip may select any of the slips that remain available for lease.

Early days in townsend's inlet.

• It had a wide beach with 20-foot sand dunes, one of which was once the highest point in New Jersey. The beach and the ocean, the dunes, and the town itself combined to form a kind of primitive play land, especially for the kids.
• It had a natural harbor in the inlet which was once deeper and wider than it is today.

• In the beginning, T.I. was essentially a hard-working fishing village. Fresh fish, oysters and other shellfish were always a staple for local tables.
• Fishing, both commercial and recreational, continued its dominance into the 20 th century. The Killcullen pier and later The Townsend’s Inlet Yacht Club pier provided fishing platforms, along with docks for excursion and deep sea fishing boats such as Captain Kramer’s motorized sailboat the Allard. Fishing trips were a dollar a day.

• Next to the trolley barn (the present T.I. Civic Center) was Cupid’s Garden where bands from Sea Isle would come to play for dances several times a week.

• The Terminal Hotel and Restaurant across the tracks provided a pleasant porch to wait for the trolley. Two of the early hotels were the Atlantic at Landis Ave. and 87 th Street (which later became Busch’s) and the Inlet Hotel (c1900) near the fishing docks.

• For a change of scene, ten-cent trolley trips were available to downtown Sea Isle, as were all-day train excursions along the coast for a dollar.

Townsends Inlet Beach Information

Sea Isle’s beaches at Townsends Inlet are a great place to be on a hot summer afternoon, a cool autumn morning or a balmy spring night. Whether you are a beachcomber, sunbather, surfer or sandcastle builder, you are sure to enjoy your time on these white sand beaches. To maximize your enjoyment, here is information you will want to know.

Lifeguarded Beaches

Lifeguards are on duty at the following beaches: 75th, 77th, 81st, 84th, 86th, 89th & 92nd streets. Beaches south of 93rd Street do not have lifeguards present and use is at one’s own risk.

Permitted Activities

Rafts – Permitted at  75th, 81st, 86th & 92nd streets. Flotation devices with a fin may not be used on a raft beach. Flotation devices with a fin, such as belly and body boards, may be used on the surfing beaches provided a leash is used and flippers are worn by the operator. Surfing – Permitted on 74th & 82nd streets. Volleyball – Permitted at 88th street. Two volleyball nets are the maximum permitted per volleyball beach. Nets are not provided on volleyball beaches. Surf Fishing – Permitted on beaches south of 93rd St. Any beach area adjacent to rock jetties not specified as a surfing or kayaking beach. Kayaks – Permitted at 79th street.

Beach Tag Information

Beach tags are required for all individuals 12 years or older from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the exception of all Wednesdays. Wednesdays are free beach days in Sea Isle. Beach tags can be purchased at the Beach Tag Office at the Welcome Center on JFK Boulevard, at City Hall (lobby vending machines or in the Tax Office,) at any beach entrance, or from on-duty beach tag inspectors. Beachgoers can also download and purchase Sea Isle City seasonal tags through Viply, which can then be picked up at the Beach Tag Booth.

The 2021 Summer Season rates for beach tags are: $5 for daily, $10 for weekly $25 for seasonal tags. Discounts are offered on seasonal tags purchased prior to May 15. Beach tags are free for all veterans of the United States Armed Forces, as well as active duty military members and their immediately families.

Street and metered parking is available and there is a parking lot is at 94th Street & Landis Avenue. Parking permits are available at the City Clerk’s Office at City Hall, 233 John F. Kennedy Blvd., 2nd Floor, Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (no holidays), or by mail, at a seasonal rate of $200 or weekly rate of $30.

Surf Chairs

Beach wheelchairs are available through the Sea Isle City Recreation Department 4501 Park Road, or by calling 609-263-1013. The recreation department also distributes daily non-reserved wheelchairs on a first come first served basis.

Rules and Regs

• Swiming is only permitted on guarded beaches.
• A beach curfew is in effect from 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. during the months of May through September.
• Consumption of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in all public areas.
• Dogs are not allowed on the beaches, beach approaches or Promenade from May 1 to September 30. Dogs must be licensed, leashed (not longer than 6 feet), curbed at all times and feces must be removed.
• Fires, glass bottles and picnics are prohibited on all Sea Isle City beaches.
• From October through March, you may drive a permitted vehicle on the beach. Beach vehicle permits are available from the records department at the Police station.
