While the speed boat is not specifically designed for overnight stays on the water, the minimalistic interior can accommodate 1 or 2 overnight guests.

When cruising around beautiful waters, there is space for 19 passengers on board the impressive vessel.

The 6ft cabin is spartan, with a basic galley featuring a small sink and microwave, drawers, and a few lockers.

September 23rd, 2020: Metal Shark Debuts 48-Meter Catamaran Expedition Vessel and Introduces “Metal Shark Yachts” Portfolio

Jeanerette, LA – September 23rd, 2020 : USA-based shipbuilder Metal Shark has introduced a 48-meter (158’) aluminum catamaran expedition yacht.

The new Metal Shark M48, named “Magnet,” is the first build in the company’s “Metal Shark Yachts” portfolio of high-speed, long range catamaran expedition yachts, which has just been announced. The new lineup also include the M30 (30 meters / 100’) and M70 (70 meters / 231’).

Magnet is the first-ever private recreational yacht built by Metal Shark, a diversified builder of aluminum and steel vessels for military and commercial operators worldwide. The vessel is also notable for being built in the United States, constructed from start to finish at Metal Shark’s Franklin, Louisiana shipyard.

The three-decked welded-aluminum craft features design work completed by Metal Shark’s in-house engineering team, utilizing an Incat Crowther catamaran hull form optimized for maximum speed and range. The vessel weighs in with a lightship displacement of 275 metric tons and can carry up to 29,000 US gallons (110,000 liters) of fuel. Powered by twin 2,600-BHP (1,939 Kw) MTU IMO Tier III diesel engines, Magnet boasts a globe-spanning 11,000 nautical mile range at a 10-knot cruise, with reserve. In sea trials the new craft has reached a top speed of 27 knots.

“This is not by any stretch a typical yacht,” explained the vessel’s owner, George Wallner. “I wanted a serious, rugged, purpose-built vessel capable of reaching the remote, unspoiled destinations that you can’t get to with an airplane. With Magnet, I can travel quickly to faraway places, and everyone onboard can enjoy the adventure. Upon arrival, we can stay for extended periods, independently and comfortably, without reliance on a large crew. I also wanted to be able to work on board, continue with my product development and testing activities at sea. The catamaran format offers ample room and a uniquely stable platform for that. I worked closely with Metal Shark over an extended period to execute my vision, to create this tool for recreational exploration, and it is very rewarding to finally experience Magnet underway. So far, I have been most impressed by this vessel’s stability, even at speed in heavy seas.”

“Like Magnet, each of our catamaran Metal Shark Yachts have been designed to liberate owners from the fuss of yachting and to eliminate adherence to rigid itineraries, opening up new opportunities for exploration,” said Metal Shark CEO Chris Allard. “With Magnet you can run from New York to Miami in under 48 hours, you can cross oceans at 17 knots, and you can comfortably enjoy long-range global travel without refueling concerns. Thanks to its catamaran footprint, M48 offers significantly more deck space than a monohull yacht of comparable length, creating vast spaces for entertaining along with ample storage space for tenders, toys, or other payloads. A 5,000 lb.-capacity submersible stern platform and a 3,500 lb. aft deck crane easily launch, retrieve, and stow tenders, toys, and cargo.

Machinery spaces, crew quarters, refrigerated storage, a wine cellar, and a complete work shop are all accommodated belowdecks within the twin catamaran hulls, opening up all three decks for owners and guests. On the main and mid decks, the elevated interior imparts the feel of a high-end city apartment as opposed to the far more enclosed spaces of a typical yacht. Large, panoramic windows and understated finishes put the emphasis on the journey, offering airy, uncluttered surroundings and sweeping views of the outside environment.

An expansive upper-level sun deck, generously appointed with wraparound seating and lounges, al fresco dining areas, and a bar with refrigerators and an ice maker, also features a forward flybridge which offers superb visibility from its elevated position. A large fixed shade provides comfort while also accommodating an integrated 12-panel, 4.2 kW solar power generation array, and a spacious aft lounge area beckons sun lovers.

OUR ADVANCED TOOLKIT

The high-performance patented Stepped ‘V’ Ventilated Tunnel (SVVT) was developed by Michael Peters and incorporates a classic deep ‘V’ hull with two transverse steps and a central tunnel aft. It is this latter feature that sets it apart from other current stepped deep ‘V’s, with its shallow aft central tunnel increasing the longitudinal stability of the boat in high speed turns and adverse situations. The use of the SVVT hull on the Verve 47 represents the merging of cutting-edge hull forms with advanced outboard engine power and avant-garde concept design and styling. The combination of technologies culminates in a boat that boasts unmatchable performance, manoeuvrability and speed in its class and represents the largest and grandest SVVT pleasure boat available on the market.

Azimut’s pioneering use of carbon fiber lamination goes beyond pure performance. The Carbon Tech Generation offers expanded volumes on board, while maintaining excellent dynamic stability and perfect handling. Preserving the yacht’s low center of gravity, the carbon fiber was focused on the upper parts of the yacht, lightening the laminated components by up to 30% and reducing the natural roll momentum up to 15%.

The custom-installed Raymarine electronics have been integrated to control and monitor every onboard system: from engines and alarms, to bilge and water discharge pumps, tank levels and engine room ventilation, right through to the sound system and the air conditioning units. Superyacht atau kapal pesiar mewah itu dihantam tornado Senin (19/8/2024) di lepas pantai Sisilia sekitar pukul 5 pagi waktu setempat. Situs ABC News yang dikutip Selasa (20/8) menyebut bahwa enam orang hilang termasuk pemilik kapal, taipan teknologi miliarder Mike Lynch yang berusia 59 tahun, dan putrinya, Hannah, 18 tahun.

Kapal Bayesian senilai $27 juta itu tenggelam ketika tiang besarnya runtuh dan kapalnya terbalik.

Kapten kapal James Calfield, 51 tahun, berbicara dari rumah sakit kemarin dan mengatakan tidak tahu bahwa tornado itu akan datang ke arah kapal.

Miliarder pengusaha tersebut menjual perusahaan teknologinya Autonomy kepada raksasa komputer AS Hewlett-Packard seharga $US11 miliar pada tahun 2011, tetapi pertempuran hukum yang panjang terjadi setelahnya karena ia dituduh menggelembungkan nilai perusahaan.

Ia telah diekstradisi ke AS dari Inggris untuk diadili atas tuduhan pidana.

Juri pengadilan San Francisco membebaskan Lynch, yang dijuluki "Bill Gates-nya Inggris", pada bulan Juni.

Para tamu di kapal pesiar mewah yang hancur itu termasuk staf dari firma hukum Clifford Chance dan perusahaan Lynch, Invoke Capital, menurut surat kabar tersebut.

Ketua Morgan Stanley International Jonathan Bloomer, 70 tahun, juga termasuk di antara orang-orang yang hilang, menurut surat kabar Inggris The Times .

Kapal sepanjang 56 meter yang menelan biaya $320.000 per minggu itu dihantam badai tiba-tiba saat ditambatkan di lepas pantai Porticello, sebelah timur Palermo.

Istri milarder Mike Lynch, Angela Bacares, termasuk di antara 15 orang yang berhasil diselamatkan.

Tiga warga Inggris lainnya, dua warga Amerika, dan satu warga Kanada termasuk di antara enam orang yang masih hilang.

Tim penyelam ahli telah berhasil menemukan kapal itu 48 meter di bawah laut.

Hampir semua dari 22 penumpang dan awak kapal dikatakan berada di dalam kabin dan kamar mereka saat cuaca berubah.

Menurut kepala Badan Perlindungan Sipil, mengutip laporan AFP, k apal pesiar mewah sepanjang 56 meter, The Bayesian, tengah ditambatkan di lepas pantai Porticello, sebelah timur Palermo, ketika badai tiba-tiba menyapu pantai sebelum fajar, menghancurkan klub pantai dan pelabuhan nelayan kecil.

Pihak berwenang Italia telah membuka penyelidikan atas insiden tersebut, sementara tanggapan darurat terus berlanjut pada hari Senin (19/8).

SKY News melaporkan bahwa Taipan teknologi Inggris Mike Lynch dan putrinya yang berusia 18 tahun termasuk di antara enam wisatawan yang hilang setelah sebuah kapal pesiar mewah tenggelam akibat tornado di lepas pantai Italia.

Salvo Cocina dari badan perlindungan sipil Sisilia mengatakan: "Mereka berada di tempat yang salah pada waktu yang salah."

Jonathan Bloomer, ketua Morgan Stanley International, dan Chris Morvillo, seorang pengacara di firma besar Clifford Chance, dan kedua istri mereka juga termasuk di antara yang hilang.

48 Dolceriva: On Board the New 15 metre Riva Motor Yacht

We step on board the 48 Dolceriva, the new 15 metre motor yacht by Riva...

A sea trial with a group of marine journalists can take the romance out of a boat ride. As we talk revs, consumption and knots, one can almost forget what this is – a brand-new Riva built in the brand’s historic lakefront hometown of Sarnico, Italy, with an attention to design detail that borders on obsessive: 20 coats of varnish on mahogany; air intakes in carbon outlined in stainless steel; a one-piece wraparound glass windshield; a spacious indoor saloon; a luxurious cabin; and even an optional crew cabin.

There is nothing more fun for boat writers than to get their hands on the (leather-covered) wheel of a new boat, and there is no shortage of volunteers to submit the new Riva 48 Dolceriva to a rise and decrease in RPMs and extreme moves that it will rarely – if ever – have to do under normal circumstances. But hey, when a boat is built like a sports car, you want to make sure it handles like one. I am happy to report that the Dolceriva goes from zero to 37 knots in about 30 seconds and is able to satisfy all skill levels, from speed enthusiasts to more leisurely boaters.

The newest Riva dayboat (as opposed to the superyachts the brand is now building), the Dolceriva is the heir apparent of the Rivarama and shares some of the strategies behind the 11.8-metre Rivamare that the Ferretti Group introduced in 2016. “The main driver of the project was a timeless, long- lasting design – a Riva that can be iconic, though renewed, and at the same time up to date in terms of technology, propulsion and steering platform,” explains Michelangelo Casadei, the Ferretti Group’s director of engineering.

It was a tall order for designers Officina Italiana Design to come up with a successor to the 13-metre Rivarama, which has enjoyed great success for years. The hardest thing may be to edit your own work and Officina Italiana Design did just that, cutting out details from an already sober design to produce a modern boat that remains respectful of the Riva heritage. From my point of view, it looks to be a winner – the lines are pure and simple (but far from simplistic). In fact, the new Dolceriva is so good-looking, I lose myself in contemplation and miss out on some of the technical chatter.

However, a boat is much more than a sculpture and it needs to be safe. One might even argue it is primarily about the naval architecture (the hull shape is a deep V with 15.9-degree deadrise), the engines (two high-performance Volvo Penta D13s), the drives and the steering (which is velvety and awesome to my hands). The steering package includes rudders and V-drives, but this boat also comes with a joystick, which is a really useful tool in tight corners.

Once at the wheel, I appreciate how the navigation information is integrated in a couple of easy-to-read screens placed at just the right height. Everything is at hand: horn, wipers, radio, even a bottle of water, thanks to judiciously placed cupholders. The windscreen, a feat of engineering by Italian maker Isoclima, offers good wraparound protection from wind and spray with primo views. Automated interceptors remove any guessing game in terms of optimal trim and efficiency. All that’s left to do is rev up the engines and let the Dolceriva run while keeping a lookout for other craft on the water.

Riva built the boat according to CE regulations and it is certified for up to 10 passengers. On the day of the sea trial, I am one of eight on board and the boat is loaded with about 75 per cent of the fuel and water it can carry. Our test boat, which displaces 21 tonnes, is fresh out of the factory and reaches a top speed of 38.9 knots (just shy of its 40-knot maximum capability). Cruising speed is a comfortable and fairly quiet 35 knots.

But what’s the hurry? There is plenty to enjoy here. The beautifully angled transom transforms into a swim platform for easy water access. Two removable sunpads unfold from a storage compartment to fit the swim platform exactly, while two more permanent ones just above allow adults to stretch out fully, which is great, particularly after a meal. The varnished deck table unfolds for mealtimes and a smart system allows an automated bimini to rise from hidden compartments and shelter the entire cockpit. Need more shade? Retreat down below to an elegant saloon, decorated with perfectly stitched leather panels, dark wood, venetian blinds and light fabrics. As always, Riva branding is everywhere, but it is discreet.

“All materials recall the Riva heritage, such as mahogany and steel combined with mirrored surfaces and leather elements,” says Stefano de Vivo, the Ferretti Group’s chief commercial officer. Steel and glass are used on the hatch that accesses the luxurious interior and on the master cabin’s sliding door. This metallic mesh allows light in but guarantees privacy, “a strategic choice both in terms of functionality and style”, adds de Vivo. The cabin is certainly comfortable enough for an overnight stay, complete with dayhead and shower with good head height.

Riva offers a couple of layouts, including one without a crew cabin. Most clients so far are opting for the crew cabin, I’m told, because when you own a Riva like this, you deserve a captain. A luxury dayboat you’ll love to take for a ride, with room for a crew – that’s the best of both worlds.
