What To Expect At The British Virgin Islands Yacht Show

Updated: Oct 16, 2023

Every November, the blissful waters of the British Virgin Islands come alive with the vibrant, lively energy of the Charter Yacht Show, marking the official opening of the winter season in the Caribbean for the crewed yacht charter industry. This brilliant annual event is set to take place from November 7th - November 10th 2023, at the Nanny Cay Marina on Tortola. This event is much more than a gathering of luxury yachts; it's a celebration of maritime excellence, networking, and the local culture that defines this tropical paradise. Let's dive into what you can expect from the British Virgin Islands Yacht Show, highlighting its significance in the world of crewed yacht charters.

The Gathering of Crewed Yachts

One of the main attractions of the Charter Yacht Show is, of course, the gathering of crewed yachts. These are more than just boats; these magnificent vessels each have their own personality and charm as industry professionals and enthusiasts are able to attend this event to step aboard these luxurious floats. Attendees have the opportunity to explore the cabins, decks and amenities they all offer and engage with other knowledgeable professionals and enthusiasts, including the crews who make these charters exceptional.

Opportunity For Brokers & Industry Players

The British Virgin Island Yacht Show provides a unique opportunity for industry players and brokers to get up close and personal with multiple chartered yachts. These brokers will and do play a significant role in matching high-end clients with the perfect yacht charter experience, as attending this event allows them to explore and gather information on yachts firsthand to improve their businesses and their matching. Holding discussions with the crews, understanding the services that each of these yachts provides and the experience their clientele will have when on board ensures they make informed decisions and recommendations about Yacht Charters to the people they serve. It is a dynamic exchange of information that ultimately benefits the charters, charter enthusiasts and brokers alike.

Networking & Relationship Building

Networking is one of the main foundations at the Charter Yacht Show in November. It is the time when professionals from all areas within the yacht charter industry come together to build new relationships as well as strengthen ones they already have. Whether you are a seasoned broker, a yacht owner or a newcomer to this magnificent field, the connections you make during this annual event are invaluable and will only improve your experience. Conversations had on deck, over a glass of wine and local cuisine, or the informal chats had during leisurely strolls around the marina can lead to long-lasting collaborations and partnerships. These connections extend beyond the event and can foster a sense of community within the industry.

The Local Culture

Beyond the sumptuousness of the yachts, the British Virgin Island Yacht Show offers a unique but equally wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture of the islands. The welcoming BVI community takes pride in hosting this event and showcases its warm hospitality, rich traditions and vigorous arts scene with those who attend. The attendees of this event can take time to savour the local cuisines, revel and dance to the upbeat Caribbean music and appreciate the region's crafts and artistry. If you happen to take part in this event, you will be surrounded by local sponsors who generously present their products, adding to the event's festive atmosphere.

Enthusiasm For The Caribbean

Towards the end of the Charter Yacht Show, attendees will depart with a renowned enthusiasm for the Caribbean as well as the industry. This event serves as a reminder of the unparalleled allure and charm that the British Virgin Islands offer. The azure waters, relaxing beaches and lush landscapes are a testament to the natural grandeur of this destination, only making you want to book a BVI Yacht Charter more. Furthermore, the connections made and the knowledge gained during this event equip industry professionals with the tools to create unforgettable charter experiences for their clients.

The British Virgin Island Yacht Show is not just an event; it is an experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who attend. It's a showcase of the industry's crewed yacht excellence, a hub for networking and relationship building and, of course, a celebration of the local culture. As we anticipate the 2023 edition of this event, we imagine only the great opportunities it will bring for the crewed yacht charter industry. Mark your calendars for November 7th 2023, and get ready to set sail into the luxury experiences and entertainment in Tortola, BVI.

bvi yacht charter show

The land met the sea on Tuesday evening when vendors mingled with yacht brokers and crew during one of the first events of the Charter Yacht Society’s annual BVI Fall Charter Yacht Show.

“My family has been provisioning for yachts since the seventies, so we’ve been doing this for a long, long time,” said Aragorn Dick-Read, owner of Good Moon Farm. “My father would bring in all kinds of exotic and foreign stuff from all over the world to supply boats, and now I’m supplying everthing that’s local.”

Mr. Dick-Read’s farm was one of nearly three dozen businesses represented at Vendors’ Night.

The turnout pleased CYS Executive Director Janet Oliver. “It’s probably the biggest that we’ve ever had,” Ms. Oliver said. “We have about 35 businesses represented tonight.”

However, the number of boats registered for the show — 27 — was lower than hoped, Ms. Oliver explained. In 2019, just before the pandemic, 50 boats participated in the fall event. Nevertheless, this year’s turnout was not exactly bad news, she said.

“We would’ve expected more, but actually the VI is in high demand since Covid-19, so the vast majority of our members are on charter,” she said. “We have 27 boats, which is more than last year, but it’s not really our standard.”

Ms. Oliver added that the season has started earlier than usual and that she expects a strong tourist season.

“Charters began as early as October,” she said.

“We have some members who have closed out their calendars for the year.”

On Tuesday, vendors were busy setting up stalls near Peg Leg’s during the day.

Mr. Dick-Read and others remained focused on what the brokers and their clients were looking for in land-based services.

“People come expecting to find local food,” he said. “When they come to the supermarkets and see all exported food, they get very disappointed.”

Ms. Oliver said the Vendors’ Night is geared toward connecting vendors like Mr. Dick-Read to the yacht industry.

“These are the businesses that look to the industry to be their clientele, and the reverse: These businesses help make the guests’ vacation of a lifetime a good experience,” she said.

Last year, the event was held in a nearby location on Nanny Cay due to Covid-19.

“We had everyone bring their own tents,” Ms. Oliver said. “Last year we had to have a certain amount of distance, and it created much more of a marketplace where people were able to customise their own booths better.”

However, this year’s venue worked out well too, she added.

Other events

The yacht show started on Sunday with an orientation where new crewmembers met at Peg Leg’s, according to organisers.

The next day, yacht crew were welcomed as they registered during the late afternoon hours. In the evening, they were invited to socialise at Omar’s in Nanny Cay.

Tuesday was the first day that brokers were invited to view the boats. Registration began early in the morning, and then brokers were invited to take a trip to Anegada aboard a Virgin Charter Yachts vessel.

There, brokers got a chance to visit the conch shell mound, tour the sister island, and eat lunch before returning to Tortola.

Those who opted out of the tour had the opportunity to view yachts and talk to crewmembers.

The show continues today with yacht viewings and the annual cocktail contest sponsored by Mount Gay Rum. During the evening, a crew and broker dinner and an awards ceremony will be held.

The final day of the show is tomorrow when all events will wrap up by noon.

About Us: Your Charter Yacht Brokers: Capt. Randy & Shelly Tucker!

bvi yacht charter show

If you want to experience a luxury yacht charter vacation first hand and up close, there is no better way than on your own privately crewed yacht with a full-time professional Captain and Chef/First Mate. We've been sailing and chartering for well over twenty-five years.

The U.S. Virgin Islands and British Virgin Islands were our "backyard" which we came to love and cherish. So much so, that we sold everything in 1997 and moved to Charlotte Amalie, USVI as owners & operators aboard the 72' sailing yacht Three Moons. We do know the ins and outs of this special place & the people who live there. That's what makes us an official "Yacht Charters Guru”! Never been on a chartered yacht vacation? We will help you personally design your charter yacht vacation. Imagine being able to sail into small bays with beautiful white sands & fantastic snorkeling. A yacht vacation is a great way to spend time with your friends or family.

Why use a CYBA Certified Yacht Charter Broker?

Key Takeaways:

As a member of CYBA, the Charter Yacht Broker’s Association, we adhere to strict yacht charter booking protocols. We have access to the CYBA industry escrow account to protect your money.

Charter yacht crews, yacht owners and travel agents do not have access to this account.

If it is a busy yacht with lots of charters, the crew are taking care of guests onboard and they honestly do not have time to answer a lot of travel questions.

This is what differentiates professionally licensed yacht brokers from anyone else trying to book charters.

Very Important! It is not safe to send your hard-earned money directly to a business or yacht that is not accredited by a professional charter industry association to handle yacht charter client funds. Always ask!

We have access to the The CYBA E-Contract Charter Agreement. It is made available by CYBA for electronic use only by established, industry recognized and reputable Yacht Brokers.

Choose from an extensive list of yachts, including our spacious and stable catamaran charters , power catamarans , traditional monohull sailboat vacations , or high-end luxury motor yacht charters in the U.S. Virgin Islands, British Virgin Islands, Bahamas, Belize, Croatia. Greece, and the Mediterranean.

We do not sell yachts like many other agencies so there is no conflict or distraction in our focus for your yacht charter. Our service is free to you. We travel extensively to boat shows and yacht charter shows year-round to personally view and inspect as many of the yachts as possible.

6 Reasons Why We are Qualified:

1. As Members of the Charter Yacht Brokers Association, The Virgin Islands Professional Charter Yacht League, and the BVI Charter Yacht Society, we maintain contact with the yachts to keep abreast of the very latest information on crew/yacht conditions and new yachts entering the arena.

2. We stay on top of local and Federal Governments to keep informed about changes in our industry, as well as involve ourselves with the changes in the environment in which we offer charters.

3. We engage in open dialogue with local publications to help keep the government and the public aware of this important industry in our islands.

4. We attend multiple charter yacht industry shows in the Caribbean and Mediterranean, go aboard each of the yachts, meet the crews, attend association meetings and seminars. We'll happily share our notes about changes to the boats and crews and confirm any newly added features and upgrades as well as re-fits to the boat’s decor like new carpets, interior and exterior soft goods & fun new water toys.

5. As a seasoned charter yacht Owner & Crew, we have access to the "inner circle" and know all the insider facts. 6. We've developed a longtime friendship with vendors of services such as local taxi drivers, ferry companies, good places to stay on land, great restaurants, and much more.

Types of Charters

There are two primary ways to break down our BVI yacht charters: Firstly, by how they are powered (this includes sails and motor) and secondly, by how many crew members are onboard (this can be none, captain only, or full crew).

Type of Yacht

bvi yacht charter show

☛ Sailing Yachts

Sailing yachts come in two primary types: monohulls and catamarans. Monohulls have a single hull, offering a traditional sailing experience with heeling and excellent upwind performance. Catamarans, with twin hulls, provide stability, speed, and spacious living areas. Monohulls excel upwind, while catamarans offer comfort, speed, and shallow draft advantages. Ultimately, the choice between them depends on individual preferences, sailing conditions, and intended use.

☛ Motor Yachts

Motor yachts and motor catamarans are power-driven vessels offering distinct advantages. Motor yachts provide luxury, speed, and long-range cruising, while motor catamarans offer stability, spaciousness, and fuel efficiency. If you are planning a busy itinerary with a focus on exploring the many great destinations, you should strongly consider a Motor Yacht.

☛ Luxury Yachts

While the British Virgin Islands have traditionally been known as sailing destinations, we have seen a growing demand for luxury motor yachts among high-end clients. As the marinas compete to accommodate more and larger vessels, their numbers increase.  There are now over 200 large   (100+ feet meters) motor yachts operating in the BVI  in the high season. The motor yachts offer more privacy and prestige, more water toys, and comfort as they can accommodate a larger number of guests and crew. (Note that jet skis are not allowed in the BVI).

Type of Crew

bvi yacht charter show

☛ Crewed Charters

Immerse yourself in luxury and choose a crewed charter where everything is taken care of, and you won’t need to think about a thing. A Crewed Charter usually includes at least a Captain and a Chef but can also cover a stewardess, masseuses, dive instructors, personal trainers, and yoga instructors. The boat is provisioned according to guest wishes and preferences. Since all the work is handled by the crew, the guests can really have a relaxed, laid-back time.

☛ Captain-Only Charters

Captain-only charters are a good middle ground between the crewed charters and the bareboat charters. It’s very much like car rental. You do the paperwork and rent the boat. The local experience of the crew should not be underestimated. A captain will know secret spots and is able to quickly analyze your preferences and types of vacation you wish (or need).

☛ Bareboat Charters

Bareboat charter is the budget-friendly option for qualified sailors. Originally intended for people who know the area, the price convenience caused that today, many of the bareboat captains would be better off with a captain-only charter. If you haven’t been to the BVI before or you haven’t that much experience sailing the boat you wish to charter (rent), consider a captain-only charter, you will thank us later:) At the moment, we don’t include bareboats in our search, please inquire directly and we can find a matching bareboat for you.

Common Issues On a BVI Yacht Charters

  • I got a boat from USVI – will I find out, after I sign the contract, that we’ll not go to the BVI at all?
  • All-Inclusive – what does it include?
  • Air Conditioning – does it run during the night?
  • APA- Advance Provisioning Allowance – are you going to have a daily overview?
  • Crew – what is the real crew feedback? How did they do on their last charters?
  • Crew Change – is your crew a part of the contract?

Not So Obvious Issues

  • are your cruising taxes included?
  • how long is your immigration procedure going to take? Minutes or hours?
  • will I lose a day in order to catch a Ferry to get an STT morning flight?

Most people would start with 50 islands and cays, right? Let’s start with the relaxed and chilled atmosphere where liming was invented (drinking/eating and chilling for hours without a defined schedule). It’s the freedom that you can have when sail to bars like Willy T, the optimism and positive energy that you recuperate over the course of your vacation, that’s what makes the BVI special.

You can immediately tell the people who arrived yesterday. Full of stress, solving small things… a bundle of nerves that we turn into after prolonged experience with the “real world.” After a few painkillers (the BVI signature drink) or Frozen Margaritas (Willy T is the place), every pain diminishes and the problems fade away. These same people leave after a week smiling, optimistic and full of energy.

Snorkeling at the Indians, diving the Wreck of Rhone, surfing at Bomba Shack (Capoons Bay) or  a visit to The Baths (Virgin Gorda) are the part of charter that provide those memorable moments people have been coming back for.

Top 6 BVI Yacht Charter Locations

The secret one are the best. The license plates of the BVI cars say “Nature’s Little Secrets.” That’s spot on. If you want to know some secret spots, talk to our brokers. Get on the chat or inquire about the yachts. Kerry has been the crew of a charter boat in the BVI for over 15 years. Well, let us give you some of the best-known places:)

The Baths on Virgin Gorda

A place where you must charter is The Baths. This spectacular place will enchant you and you will fall in love with the Baths. What is so special about this place that you have to charter there? The answer is simple: there are few places on earth that are quite so stunningly beautiful and this part of Virgin Gorda is among them. Big rocks settled in the silky soft sand are breathtaking and once you climb through them you will finish in Devils Bay.

Tortola is the largest island in the BVI and home to the capital where your charter most likely will start. The locals are welcoming and the island is home to numerous stunning white sand beaches like Smuggler’s Cove, Trunk Bay, and Cane Garden Bay, perfect for relaxing with a cold drink.

Nanny Cay is located on the south side of Tortola and is home to the modern Nanny Cay Resort & Marina, known for its great drinks and breathtaking sunsets. The area also hosts the renowned Spring BVI Regatta, attracting sailors from around the world.

Soper’s Hole Wharf & Marina , located on the West End of Tortola, is a charming spot for dining, refueling, and shopping, offering a peaceful atmosphere. This part of the British Virgin Islands truly feels like paradise, brimming with the sunny island’s vibrant energy and natural wonders.

bvi yacht charter show

One of the main islands is very well known for yacht anchorages. On Jost Van Dyke will find amazing bars, restaurants with the pure Caribbean vibe. Once you come on your yacht charter to White Bay you will not want to leave ever. In the White Bay, the time stopped and you will have so much fun on your charter. Cold famous painkillers with delicious local food, you have to try this little nature secret in this paradise. Make sure to visit the famous Soggy Dollar Bar!!

Norman Island is known as Treasure Island and was the inspiration for the pirate novel of Robert Louis Stevenson. This island is the perfect place where to sail on your yacht charter if you are looking for adventure which may end with found treasure. After snorkeling and exploring the many caves that Norman Island offers, you can sail to Bight for outstanding food in Pirates Bight Restaurant and The Club Restaurant.

bvi yacht charter show

Sandy Cay & Spit Island

Sandy Cay and Spit Island, both tiny uninhabited islands near Jost Van Dyke, offers palm-lined shores and shallow reefs ideal for beachcombing and exploring marine life. Both destinations provide secluded beauty and relaxation, making them must-visit spots during a yacht charter in the British Virgin Islands.

The Indians

The Indians is a natural wonder and a must-visit destination for anyone on a yacht charter, offering a blend of natural beauty and  snorkeling opportunities . This cluster of rugged islets features  striking rock formations  shaped by the elements. The main attraction is the submerged boulders, known as  “The Caves,”  providing a captivating underwater landscape.

Accessible by yacht , anchoring in the vicinity opens the door to an immersive experience. Snorkelers can explore  vibrant coral reefs  and encounter  diverse marine life  thriving in the crystal-clear waters.

bvi yacht charter show

North Sound

If the BVI is the mecca of yachting, the North Sound should be its capital.

North Sound is located on the north of Virgin Gorda, the primary method of transport there is by boat. It’s a rather secluded location, no doubt by design.

This  Billionaire Playground first became popular in the 50s and 60s, thanks to the Washburn family, and gained even more attention in the 70s and 80s. Notably, Sir Richard Branson bought his second island, Moskito Island, here.

North Sound is a hub for sailing, hosting the annual Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta and Rendezvous. You can also see people windsurfing and kitesurfing here. Plus, some of the best BVI diving locations , like Mountain Point, Cow’s Mouth, and Paul’s Grotto near Mountain Bay, are found in this area. It’s a playground for the wealthy but also a paradise for anyone who loves the sea and adventure.

Of course you’ll need to decide if you want to join in the action or stay away from the crowds.

SAMPLE ITINERARY FOR THE BVI:

The Bight at Norman Island makes the perfect anchorage to head for on your first night. After crossing Sir Francis Drake Channel you will sail past The Indians and Pelican Island. Dead ahead is a  protected anchorage to grab your first overnight mooring.

The Bight makes such a great first night stop as it is well protected, has loads of moorings, and offers good snorkeling. You’ll also find a lovely restaurant in the left corner called Pirates Bight and the historic Willy T, which is on anchor. Once you are secure on your overnight mooring, jump in the dinghy and make your way over to The Caves. You’ll find a splendid National Park site with natural caves to explore and teeming with sea life, therefore a great first snorkel.

As the sun is dropping in the sky, you’ll want to return to the boat, scrub up and dinghy ashore for dinner. Pirates Bight is a lively, family-oriented beach bar and restaurant. On the other hand, you could opt for the Willy T. This famous floating bar and restaurant made a name for itself many years ago. They offered a free T-Shirt to anyone who jumped off the top deck naked! Health and Safety stepped in to prevent this ritual but it still has a reputation for being fun and noisy. It’s not for everybody but if you are looking to party and have a good time, this a must do.

At first light, motor straight over to the Indians, as it is close enough to leave the sails at rest. Once you’ve picked up a National Park mooring buoy you can leisurely take in the spectacular rock formations before snorkeling. Take in the lavish corals, an array of sealife and colorful sponges which contrast with the rocky ledges and steep walls that rise to the surface.

Next, sail to Great Harbor, Peter Island. Here you will pick up a mooring for the night and either dine at Ocean’s 7 or fire up the BBQ. Peter Island has 5 gorgeous white sand beaches and offers great snorkeling and swimming with turtles popping up throughout. Just off of Key Point you will find one of the newest dive sites, established in 2019, the sunken original Willy T. This an underwater pirate-themed shipwreck playground for divers, complete with skeletal pirates going about their daily business. Don’t miss this one!

Following breakfast, sail to the wreck of The Rhone, sunk in 1867, just off of Salt Island for a stunning morning dive/snorkel. Next, tack up to Cooper Island in the early afternoon and grab your overnight mooring in Manchioneel Bay. Then swim over to Cistern Point for more snorkeling, relaxing on the beach or chillin’ by the bar at the Cooper Island Beach Club. For the evening, you can either dine ashore at the restaurant (be certain to call for reservations) or barbeque on your boat.

*Due to the plentiful turtle grass on the sea bottom, there is a strict ‘no anchoring’ policy in effect at Cooper Island. So be sure to get there early for a mooring or reserve one first thing in the morning.

Get an early start and tack up the Sir Francis Drake Channel to The Baths on the southern end of Virgin Gorda. Once there, pick up a National Parks mooring, dinghy part of way in and tie off at the dinghy line provided. From there you and your crew will need to swim to the beach. Do pay attention to the flag system on the beach  there is a north swell.

You can spend the whole day exploring the tunnels, caves and crystal-clear pools through the maze of massive boulders. By the way, they have been resting here for literally millions of years! Enjoy a little lunch on board before heading back across the channel towards Marina Cay. Although Pusser’s no longer have a presence at Marina Cay, there is still amazing snorkeling and swimming to be had. Another option is to stay at Scrub Island in the resort’s marina and enjoy their fantastic 2 story pool and restaurants.

Today you’ll be heading to North Sound, Virgin Gorda where you will find a little something for everyone. Why not break up your sail with a stop at The Dogs? An excellent snorkeling and diving site as with all National Parks, it is a cluster of three small islets.

After lunch, onward up into the North Sound, being sure to use the well-marked north entrance and not the shortcut next to Mosquito Island. Your destination, Leverick Bay, has everything that a sailor or landlubber could want. The amenities include: a full service spa that can even accommodate you aboard, a complete marina, pool, restaurant, beach bar, live entertainment most nights, water sports, shopping, and a market for provisions plus a deli. In fact, there’s too much to list, definitely worth a stop over!

If weather permits, sail to Anegada early in the morning (leave by 9 AM!), which is an easy 2-3 hour trip from the North Sound due North. Be sure you called the office first to get the OK!

There is only one anchorage and make sure you go in between the red and green entry markers. By the time you’ve picked up one of the 30 mooring buoys, you and your crew will be ready to explore. Choose either a taxi or rented car for the day to visit Loblolly Bay, Cow Wreck and Anegada Beach Club. In addition to the beautiful white beaches, you will fall in love with the Roseate Flamingos, rare rock iguanas, manmade conch islands and splendid plant species like sea lavender. The fantastic outer reef, Horseshoe Reef, is rich in marine life and perfect for snorkeling or diving and dotted with shipwrecks. Anegada is the most scenic watersports playground in the region, especially for kiteboarders and paddle boarders alike.  And for Dinner….? Lobster of course!

As the sun rises get set to sail west, downwind, towards Jost Van Dyke. It’s important to realize that this will be your longest sail, therefore it would be a good idea to stop for a morning snorkel at Monkey Point, Guana Island.

Given that Monkey Point is another national park, you’ll find an abundance of marine life. As a matter of fact, yellowtail snappers, bluestriped grunts and yellow jacks, along with turtles and tarpon call this home. Next, continue to Great Harbor on Jost Van Dyke, home to Foxy’s where they are well known for live music and barbeques on the weekends. With this in mind, it makes for a great stop for the whole family. In fact, you can pick up your overnight mooring, then jump in the dinghy and head around the point into White Bay. Enjoy a ‘Painkiller’ at the Soggy Dollar Bar or a Delirious Donkey at Hendo’s Hideout before heading back around to Great Harbor for dinner.

Last but not least, you’ll have a long upwind sail ahead, so leave early (ish). You will be sailing around the West End of Tortola and up the channel to BVI Yacht Charters at Ritter Marina, Road Town by noon. Remember to give us a call before you arrive in order to check your docking details. Subsequently, we’ll have a taxi waiting once we have refueled you at our fuel dock and checked the boat back in with our team.

ADVANCE YOUR KNOWLEDGE…

For those interested in additional studying, NauticEd offers an online chart briefing you can do in advance of your trip. The cost is $13 and it can be done by as many of your crew as you wish. The online chart briefing is NOT a substitute for the full chart briefing on arrival.

bvi yacht charter show

St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. The professionalism of the U.S. Virgin Islands crewed charter yacht industry, which directly contributes over $88 million annually to the territory’s economy, will be fully displayed at the USVI Charter Yacht Show. Organizer, the Virgin Islands Professional Charter Association (VIPCA), is pleased to announce that multi-year sponsor, Maho Crew, is the official clothing company of the 2024 Show, scheduled for November 8th-11th, at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande. The latest crew wear products, a fleet of impeccable boutique-style yachts, including those new to the Show, and a return of the popular Yacht Hop make the 2024 USVI Charter Yacht Show an event not to miss.

“Attending shows, like the USVI Yacht Charter Show, is a crucial part of a charter broker’s function. There is no greater testimony than to say: ‘I have been on the yacht, I have met the crew, and I can guarantee you will have a great experience!” says Audrey Harper, yacht charter specialist for Harper Yachting, in Naples, FL. Also, “the crew’s overall presentation, with good-quality uniforms with proper fit and vibrant colors, speaks volumes about their professionalism and attitude towards their job.”

VIPCA broker members can register (usviyachtshow.org/register/) for FREE. Exclusive Show accommodations with 20% discounts are available at the following by calling and using promo “VIPCA Yacht Show: Bluebeards (bluebeards.com), (1-340-774-1600) -Bolongo Bay Beach Resort (bolongobay.com), (1-800-524-4746) – The Pink Palm Hotel (pinkpalmhotel.com).

Charter yachts that register (usviyachtshow.org/register/) and pay in full by August 31st, 2024, receive a discounted berthing rate of $1.85 per foot per day at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas from November 3rd to 16th.

Maho Crew Returns as Official Clothing Supplier

Name-brand Helly Hansen, sustainable UPF maker FreeFly Apparel, and crew-favorite Anetik are some of Maho Crew’s new brand partnerships. These brands join an already excellent apparel lineup, including Maho Crew Private, Gill Marine, and Marinepool.

“We are excited to provide yacht crews with the latest styles and favorite brands for the upcoming season. As we all know, a sharp uniform is key in the presentation of yacht crew,” says Ted Norris, owner of Niantic, CT-headquartered Maho Crew, which offers in-house capabilities such as custom shirt printing, embroidery, sublimation, and laser engraving to provide a complete uniform solution.

Maho Crew will supply the Show’s shirts from its private line of T’s, and outfit the Show’s staff in polos from the Maho Crew collection embroidered with the Show logo. The company will also host the Show’s Crew Happy Hour on Thursday, November 7th, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Crew interested in Maho Crew’s uniform services can visit www.mahocrew.com or email [email protected]

First-Time Yachts on Show

A total capacity of yachts, power, and sail, multihulls and monohulls, 40- to 130-plus feet, are anticipated to show at IGY’s Yacht Haven Grande, St. Thomas. One showing for the first time is Abide, a 138-foot LOA Jongert sailing ketch designed by Tony Castro with a retractable keel to access anchorages more easily. The yacht has recently completed a two-year refit.

“We believe there’s a niche market in the Caribbean for the monohull demographic. The Mediterranean has options for monohulls and multihulls at different price points; we believe this is not necessarily true in the Caribbean. We hope to offer the Caribbean experience to the discerning monohull sailor, where the sailing aspect is highlighted more, and we also subtly offer laid-back activities,” says Capt. Roland Schaeffer, who, with Abide’s four crew, are attired in vessel-branded cotton Ts for morning duties, light color polo’s for daytime, and dark color for evening service. “The uniform is an extension of the personality of Abide and the message we are trying to exhibit – humble but proud.”

Features aboard Abide include a hydraulic swim platform aft with a swim ladder, an 18’ guest tender with 115Hp engine and freshwater shower, scuba diving with a certified instructor onboard, and shade onboard in four segments from bow to stern.

What’s New? Yacht Hop!

Returning this year is the highly anticipated yacht hop, with ‘World Music’ as its theme on Saturday, November 9th, from 5-8 p.m. Show vessels are encouraged to host a theme party on board, complete with food, drinks, decor, costumes, and music from around the globe.

“The yacht hop serves as a unique platform for networking opportunities,” says Staci Smith, VIPCA’s Executive Director. “Crew and brokers connect to enrich their professional relationships and celebrate their diversity through these cultural experiences and a good old-fashioned party!”

Brokers can vote for their favorite vessel based on interpretation of theme, effort, and music for the coveted ‘Best in Show – Yacht Hop’ Award. The winner will be presented at the Awards Ceremony. VIPCA members are invited to attend but must register at www.usviyachtshow.org by November 8th.

Strong Sponsor Support

Sponsors of the 2024 USVI Charter Yacht Show include the USVI Department of Tourism; Yacht Haven Grande St. Thomas; IGY Marinas; Mango Media LLC, the Gowrie Group representing Trawick and Cigna; Grey Goose, distributed by West Indies Company; Veuve Clicquot and Captain Morgan, distributed by Bellows International; Brava by VIYA; Cardow Jewelers; Yachtly; Rockvision; Moe’s Fresh Market; The Market; Maho Crew; Offshore Marine; Parts & Power Ltd., distributor of Northern Lights; Island Life Watersports; the Charter Yacht Broker Association (CYBA), Smart Life Farms, and KLR.

About VIPCA

Its initiatives include offering membership benefits, promoting marine tourism, liaising with USVI, BVI, and PR to assist in cooperative efforts; seeking relevant official rulings from Customs and Border Protection (CBP); developing USVI marine infrastructure, including installation of vessel moorings now available at BoatyBall.com; and providing marine vocational training for USVI youth. VIPCA hosts two annual yacht shows, the USVI Charter Yacht Show at www.usviyachtshow.org and the Virgin Islands Boating Expo at www.vibe.vi. www.VIPCA.org
