The Head of Housekeeping on board a superyacht is responsible for the care and maintenance of the interior of the yacht, inventories and provisioning of interior supplies.

The Head of Housekeeping onboard a yacht is responsible for both the care and maintenance of the interior of the yacht, checking and maintaining inventories, and provisioning relevant interior supplies. 

Supported by a team of like-minded housekeepers, the Head of Housekeeping is required to manage and create daily schedules for their team to ensure the smooth running of the yacht's interior as well as, fundamentally, the cleanliness of the vessel. This role generally requires at least two years of experience in a housekeeping-specific role.

What does a Head of Housekeeping do? | Head of Housekeeping Job Description

As the Head of Housekeeping, daily tasks include management of the interior and housekeeping team, as well as cleaning duties and stock control. This role also requires keeping interior defects and maintenance list, and as reporting any safety hazards so that they can be resolved instantly. 

Other duties of the Head of Housekeeping include recruitment, sanitation procedure checks, purchasing any relevant stock when needed, and liaising with other departments.

The responsibilities of a Head of Housekeeping include:

Care and maintenance of the interior to the highest level

Managing the Interior Department team

Setting cleaning schedules

Stock control and purchasing 

Performing a variety of cleaning activities including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, dusting and polishing

Maintaining, and caring for valuable interior items and surfaces, such as artwork, silks, china, crystal, linens, fine woodwork, and marble

Preparing rooms for guests

Wardrobe management

Packing/unpacking for guests and owner

Maintaining cleanliness of all linens

Laundry and ironing

Care for plants

Notifying superiors on any damages, deficits and disturbances

Issuing and keeping track of all crew uniforms

Soft and hard skills required to be a Head of Housekeeping

A successful Head of Housekeeping will have extensive knowledge of cleaning and laundry products, in addition to understanding the rules of proper care of a variety of surfaces, fabrics and materials (i.e. silk, wool, leather, suede, wood, porcelain, marble). They will also be skilled in plant care and flower arrangements.

In regards to their soft skills, they must be responsible, hard-working, trustworthy, detail-oriented, flexible, honest, and reliable.

The skills of a successful yacht Head of Housekeeping include:

Cleaning skills

Excellent knowledge of cleaning appliances and cleaning products

A keen eye for detail

Ability to work diligently and independently 

Great organisational skills

Laundry skills

Good understanding of different fabrics and materials and how to care for them

Plant care knowledge

Great time management skills

Ability to work quickly without compromising quality

Physical flexibility and strength

Ability to work with little supervision and maintain a high level of performance 

Mandatory certificates needed to work on board a yacht 

All crew members regardless of position and seniority need to have a valid STCW Basic Safety Training certificate, along with a recognised Seafarers medical certificate, the most popular being the ENG1 which is issued by an MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) professional medic.

About the head of housekeeping.

The head of housekeeping on board a superyacht is responsible for the care and maintenance of the interior of the yacht, inventories and provisioning interior supplies. Extensive knowledge of cleaning and laundry products is essential in addition to proper care of a variety of surfaces and materials (i.e. leather, suede, porcelain, marble). Some experience with floral arranging is also beneficial. This role requires at least two years of experience in housekeeping-specific roles, possibly having experience in service or the galley and willingness to help in other departments as needed.

We are looking for a Sole Chef to join a 28m private yacht in Spain ideally as soon as possible. 

This is a seasonal position for the summer (most likely ending in October) with the potential to be permanent for the right candidate.  

-You will be required to cook onboard the yacht for the summer months as well as potentially in the owner's home as they live by and could be offered to cook at the owners residences during the winter months too, if desired. This said, it can be a seasonal position only. 

-Experienced yacht owner who uses the yacht for himself and his family over the summer months. 

-The yacht operates with 4 crew in total. Captain, Deckhand/Engineer, Chef & Stew. The Deckhand/Engineer is currently on the yacht and this will be his 3rd season with the program. You will be sharing a cabin with the Stew. 

-The owners enjoy fresh, healthy Med style cuisine. They enjoy simpler styles of food so are by no means expecting Michelin star meals! They tend to eat healthy salads, pastas, grains and proteins. The crew food should reflect this also. 

-The owner has been using the vessel fairly frequently as it has been moored near their home, with a least a little day trip down to the vessel most days.

-The salary on offer is €5,000 -/+ depending on experience.

-Ideally you will be able to start within the next week or so.

• The vessel is both Med and Caribbean Cruising with both seasons being busy with a mixture of private and charter usage.

• This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-known charter yacht with a big presence in the charter market and a fantastic reputation within the industry.

• The vessel has an excellent crew culture, led by a solid and experienced senior team alongside a lovely owner.

• The ideal candidate will have at least 1 years’ experience on a vessel over 50m+ and have shown longevity in their previous position.

• You must have your Yacht Rating and B1B2 visa in hand to be considered

• On offer is a salary of €3,000 and a 5:1 rotation. There is also a discretionary 13th month bonus, along with an equal split of tips.

Rotational Chief Engineer – 50m+ – Single season

We're working with a Northern European build 50m+ yacht who are looking for a chief engineer to join them.

• The yacht has a busy single season in the Med, used privately. During winter, the yacht will be based in Barcelona for maintenance periods. Due a 5 year survey next winter in initial build shipyard. 
• The yacht is maintained to a very high standard and is in good shape, build chief still on board. 
• The position requires a minimum Y2 or SV Chief 9000kW ticket. 
• You will ideally have prior chief engineer experience, however, they will consider a candidate looking for their first chief role if you have considerable experience running an engine room, plus longevity in previous roles. 
• Salary is €8,500 + discretionary bonus. 
• Rotational – 2:2. 
• Start date is 20th September. 
• Single cabin. 
• NO visible tattoos – this is a non-negotiable. 

Temporary 3rd Engineer – 60m+ – Maintenance & Atlantic crossing

We're working with a 60m+ yacht who are looking for a temporary 3rd engineer. 

• You will join the yacht for a yard period to complete warranty works, followed by an Atlantic crossing to the Caribbean along with the chief and 2nd engineer. 
• Lovely team and great captains. 
• You  must  have a minimum Engine Room Watch Rating certificate, if you hold your EOOW Unlimited ticket this will be seen as an advantage. AEC2 qualifications will not be considered. 
• The position requires prior yacht experience as you will be expected to be hands on and hit the ground running. 
• The contract will run for roughly 6-8 weeks. 
• Starting early September. 
• Salary is a day rate of €175.

This is a newly finished 6-bedroom villa; the primary residence for the Principal, wife, and young child. They like to entertain and you will be equally comfortable servicing the family requirements, as you will ensuring that Prime Ministers, Heads of State & Royalty feel equally well looked after.

The ideal scenario would be a couple; A Chief Stew with experience of Superyacht Interior management, and a First/Chief Superyacht Officer with a good mechanical and practical 'brain'.

Both need to be super organised, and able at short notice to handle the additional demands of welcoming guests at very short notice.

Flights, accommodation, vehicle etc all offered – as is a tax free salary and the opportunity to live and work in one of the most exciting places on the planet!

2nd Officer – World cruising – Rotational

• 70m Private World cruising yacht are looking for an experienced 2 nd officer holding CM unlimited to join them around the end of September
• This is a fantastic opportunity to join an exciting program with extensive crew longevity and with the potential to progress and move within the program over time
• The role itself will include both 2 nd officer and Chief officer duties, stepping up and stepping down during rotations
• The ideal candidate will have a solid yachting background but also hold their CM unlimited to allow them to step up and grow within the program
• The itinerary is very exciting with extensive cruising and off the beaten track destinations – full details TBD during initial calls
• Previous experience with ISM, ISPS, GMDSS essential along with good navigational and watch keeping experience
• Additional experience with Ice Navigation and large crane ops and operation of large tenders would be advantageous
• As mentioned, the role will include stepping up to Chief officer and stepping back down during rotations. There is also a strong potential to step up to Chief full time down the line allowing someone the opportunity to grow
• Interest and or Diving qualifications would be advantageous but not essential
• The yacht runs a very family orientated dynamic with lots of social events, character and personality is key!
• On offer is a salary of 8000-9000 USD DOE, time for time rotation (8 weeks on 8 weeks off) along with a very solid training budget and yearly salary increases and rewards based on performance – full details to be discussed during initial call with agent

Venus, Steve Jobs' former superyacht — now owned by his wife, the philanthropist and investor Laurene Powell Jobs — has collided with another superyacht off of the Italian coast.

A spokesperson from Powell Jobs' Emerson Collective who spoke with a crewmember confirmed to Business Insider that Venus, the 78-meter yacht Steve Jobs commissioned, had collided with Lady Moura, a 105-meter yacht. The collision happened on July 22 off the coast of Naples, Italy.

The spokesperson said that only crew were onboard the yacht and that both boats were anchored when a sudden change of wind led to the collision.

Venus is cruising in the Ligurian Sea, while Lady Moura made its way to Mykonos on Wednesday, based on publicly available tracking data from Marine Traffic.

Videos posted on social media show the strikingly minimalist Venus and the Lady Moura coming into contact. It's not clear from the videos which superyacht struck which, though someone who said they were aboard the Lady Moura seemed to blame Venus' crew on social media, SuperYacht Times reported. The person said the damage was "only a scratch, albeit a significant one that will be costly to repair."

Others on social media said that the Venus appeared to be moored and that Lady Moura seemed to have swung into the boat. BI hasn't been able to independently verify either claim.

The Italian Marina Militare didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. The owner of the Lady Moura couldn't be reached.

No matter how little damage may have been done, insurance will probably cover it. Yacht insurance , which can cost six figures each month, is one of the largest costs incurred by yacht owners.

Venus, built by the top yacht-builder Feadship, was delivered after Jobs died in 2011 and was worth $130 million upon completion. The Apple cofounder was heavily involved in the design process alongside the French architect and decorator Philippe Starck.

"Venus comes from the philosophy of minimum," Starck said of her design. "The elegance of the minimum, approaching dematerialization."

Jobs and Starck spent four years working on her design, the designer told Vanity Fair , holding monthly meetings to discuss her specifications. She has six identical cabins, was built to maximize absolute silence, and, upon delivery, included the most up-to-date technology.

"There will never again be a boat of that quality again. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task," Starck told the magazine. "It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing, we were embarked on a philosophical action, implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes."
