About Our Journey

National Liquidators was founded with the ambitious goal to serve the maritime community as the largest boat and yacht recovery and remarketing firm in the world. After 35 years serving buyers, lenders, and sellers, we’re proud to say we’ve done just that.

Since 1988, National Liquidators has facilitated more than 40,000 transactions, including small recreational vessels, superyachts and cruise ships; and we maintain one of the largest inventories in the industry.

National Liquidators has led the industry with its commitment to excellence in customer service throughout the brokerage and repossession process. We partner closely with lenders, attorneys, and insurance companies to ensure our clients capture the greatest possible value for their assets, and our full-service model covers all aspects of the process from repossession and transportation through marketing and facilitation of title transfer to a new buyer.

In 1988, three partners started National Marine Liquidators (NML) as a small boat auction company in Fort Lauderdale FL.  Their partnership combined talent of an automobile sales professional, a seasoned yachtsman, and an experienced/retired IT executive.  Their vision was to create a sales environment designed to protect financial institutions in commercially reasonable sale.  They began selling boats and yachts in a weekly sealed bid auction system.  All bids were recorded through their newly developed bid tracking software which provided cutting edge and very timely reports to the selling banks.

In 1990, during the Savings and Loan crisis, NML, become the only RTC (FDIC) approved marine remarketing contractor. Bob Toney, as a contractor for the RTC himself found the NML model to be just what the industry needed and believed it should grow into a national player, not just the southeast. As the RTC project came to a close, Bob joined the National team and began taking it coast-to-coast with four sales locations. As the late 90’s came to a close, the company became National Liquidators and expanded into the remarketing of other large ticket assets. The company also moved into government contracting handling the storage, maintenance, and auction sales of seized assets. The company experienced incredible growth through the early 2000’s as the leader and most professional in this space. The recession of 2008-2011 hit all records for National. With increased regulation and scrutiny on national lending practices, the industry focus became compliance and regulation driven. Born from Bankers, Bob and the National Team quickly became the cornerstone of regulatory compliance in the industry. National remains the leader in this space and continues to offer the most professional level of service and the most aware of the banking and government regulations required to meet the needs of the industry.

In 2021, Bob made the decision to form a partnership with 2 of his long-term employees, Frank Kups and Annie Amata. The partnership will allow National Liquidators to continue to thrive within the industry it operates. The level of commitment, professionalism and knowledge will not only insure that our clients are serviced with the highest of standards but also allow the company to grow within the industry. Our number one focus is Marine. Our number one concern is you, our client.

Job duties include: field and phone networking to procure brokerage listings, answering inbound phone sales calls, emails and walk in customers, assist in creating listing reports, sales photos and various other general office and sales related duties. Previous marine experience and current listings helpful but not required; related and/or other sales experience is preferred. Salary and commission commensurate with experience. OFFER PROCEDURES

Offers are accumulated weekly through each Monday at 4:00 PM ET. In the event a particular Monday is a Federal Holiday, the deadline is extended an additional 24 hours. The high offer on a particular vessel is submitted to the Seller for consideration the following business day. The Seller, at its sole option, may accept or reject with or without a counter offer. Responses typically occur within 48 hours, no response constitutes a rejection of theoffer.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 1 business day to deposit into National Liquidators escrow account, the greater of 10% of Gross Offer or $1,000.

Upon notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic), successful Bidder has 5 business days to complete any and all conditions listed above in the “Conditions Of Offer”. In any case, any remaining amounts due must be deposited into National Liquidators escrow account, within 5 business days after notification of acceptance of an offer (either verbal or electronic). Successful Bidder’s failure to fund the total offer price within 5 business days after notice of acceptance will result in forfeiture of any deposits. In these instances, the vessel will be placed back into the auction cycle.

After funding the total offer price, Successful Bidder must remove the purchased vessel from National’s storage facility within two business days or make storage arrangements with National. Storage charges will accrue on ALL purchased vessels until each is removed from National’s storage facility. Standard storage rates apply; refer to http://www.yachtauctions.com/services for currentrates.

All vessels are sold AS IS, WHERE IS, with no warranties or representations, express or implied, as to condition or fitness for a particular purpose.

NOTICE REGARDING TITLING OR US COAST GUARD DOCUMENTATION

National Liquidators makes no guarantees, representations or warranties as to title or the ability to document or register the vessel. National Liquidators are acting as a broker only and issues as to title, documentation and registration are between the Buyer and the Seller, owner or lien holder. The required $399.00 administrative fee covers National’s efforts to obtain titling and documentation information from the Seller; it does not include transfer of title or documentation to Buyer. National Liquidators can process transfer of title or documentation to Buyer an additional fee. Buyers that are interested in this service can contact National’s title department for details, including charges. Ohio Law requires National to transfer title (not USCG documentation) directly to Ohio residents only, a $150 fee is charged for this service.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING SALES TAX

Purchasers must pay sales tax at the applicable rate in their respective states. Dealers that wish to be treated as tax-exempt are required to provide a state sale tax number, valid marine dealer’s certificate, sign a Resale Certificate or Statement for Exemption of Purchase, and any other required documentation.

All payments required herein must be in certified funds or bank check drawn on a US bank, wire transfer or cash. Personal checks or credit cards are not acceptable.

Chet Pawlowicz

Chet’s boating experience began more than thirty years ago on the Great Lakes. His profession as a school teacher allowed him plenty of time in the summer to race and cruise sailboats. In the fall of 1980, rather than returning to the classroom, he just kept on sailing, eventually ending up in Annapolis where he chose to stay. He immediately started a yacht refurbishing business which gave him an excellent knowledge base in yacht construction and repair. In 1982 he became a broker with Martin Bird & Associates and was immediately successful. He and a partner bought the business in 1988 and in 2004 Chet became the sole owner. Chet enjoys sailing and power boating on the Chesapeake Bay. Over the years he has assisted hundreds of people in the purchase or sale of their boats. “Buying or selling a boat is a major transaction,” notes Chet. “Our expertise and hard-working approach will make that transaction an easy and pleasant experience for you.”

Dyson Naeny

Dyson did his first overnight on an Alberg 23 sailboat when he was just two-weeks old, and has been hooked ever since. Raised on Kent Island he has spent his entire life surrounded by water.  He got his boating license at the age of 10, allowing him to start enjoying a wide range of power and sailboats at an early age. Racing on his high school varsity sailing team was a four-year passion for Dyson. He then went on to become a first mate on an off-shore, charter fishing boat out of Ocean City, Maryland as well as gaining sport fishing experience in the Caribbean and Pacific.  After graduating college, he started his own Yacht Management Company which afforded him an excellent knowledge-base and professional network in the marine industry. Now as a broker, “A fluid experience for my clients is always my goal”!

Ellie Abramowitz

Ellie grew up in Bethesda, MD and relocated to beautiful Annapolis during the pandemic. Her background is accounting, and she worked as a CPA for a big eight accounting firm. After staying home for eighteen years to raise her children, she returned to the working world as an executive assistant and customer support specialist at a medical device company. She is intrigued by the boating aura of Annapolis and “jumped ship” to begin a new career in the boating industry managing the Annapolis office and providing support to all the brokers in the company.

Glenna Shirts

In the marine industry for over 16 years, beginning with Lindblad Expeditions aboard their wilderness cruise-ships,Glenna has a background in both Wildlife and Finance. She worked her way "up the hause pipe" from ship's deckhand to ship's Purser/Office Manager and part-time Naturalist. Following almost 11 years at sea in Alaska and Baja California Glenna landed ashore and began a career as a Federal Government Contractor/Financial Analyst for Accounts Receivable with Office of Personnel Management. Lots of finances and forms prepared her for YSI@Martin Bird as their Closing Coordinator since 2014.

Ralph Baird

Sales associate.

Native of Arlington, Virginia with a love of the water, in his youth, Ralph spent many weekends guiding his father’s flat bottom boat along the South Branch of the Potomac in West Virginia making sure his casts of hellgrammites found the trophy bass. In high school, Ralph was a member of the crew team rowing the Potomac River along the banks of Georgetown. After graduating college, Ralph spent over 25 years in the management of large aquatic centers and their programs, teaching water safety, sailing, rowing, and canoeing, along with Lifeguarding and CPR. Reaching the end of his successful government career, Ralph leads an Environmental Health Division of the Virginia Department of Health in Prince William County inspecting the safety and regulatory compliance of restaurants, public swimming pools. lodging, and marinas. He enjoys time on his jet ski on Lake Anna, VA. He has also lived the marina life aboard a houseboat full-time at the District of Columbia’s Wharf district for several years. His grown twins, Will and Joe, enjoy water adventures with him including jet skiing, tubing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, and snowboarding in the winter.

Scott Dodge

Scott has been involved with boats since he was a small boy in Southern California and later the Eastern Shore of Maryland. During the past 37 years he has been a yacht broker in Annapolis. He has represented several major new boat lines including Catalina, Morgan, Tartan, C&C, Farr Design Pilothouse and Deck Salon boats, Boston Whaler, and Larson to name a few. When Scott isn't selling boats, he can be found racing or delivering them, logging over 37,000+ miles offshore. He is more than happy to share his expertise and industry contacts that he has made over the years when his clients want to make upgrades. New main sail, standing and running rigging new in 2021.  Upgrades to electrical system in 2022 included: new 180 Balmar alternator, new inverter/charger, 800 amp LiFePO batteries, and new generator electronic controls.  Very low engine hours (766).

GM delays Indiana electric vehicle battery factory but finalizes joint venture deal with Samsung

DETROIT (AP) — Production at an electric vehicle battery cell plant jointly run by General Motors and Samsung SDI has been delayed as EV sales have slowed in the U.S.

The companies finalized their agreement Tuesday to jointly run the new factory in New Carlisle, Indiana, near South Bend, but said production would not start until 2027. Previously the plant was expected to start making cells in 2026.

The delay will be less than a year, due to market conditions and working out contract details, GM said. Construction of the factory is already under way.

Electric vehicle sales in the U.S. are still growing but have slowed as more practical consumers worry about range and the ability to recharge while traveling. Market leader Tesla Inc. has cut prices, forcing others to follow.

U.S. electric vehicle sales overall rose about 7% during the first half of the year to 599,134, Motorintelligence.com reported. EVs accounted for 7.6% of the U.S. new vehicle market, about the same as it was for all of last year. Lease deals, which include federal tax credits, helped to boost sales.

GM and Samsung announced the joint venture in June of last year. The $3.5 billion plant is being built on a 680-acre site and is expected to employ 1,600 workers. It will make nickel-rich prismatic batteries that store more energy than other chemistries, lowering costs and improving driving range, the companies said.

The plant also will help Samsung get into the North American EV market, selling cells to other companies.

The project is GM’s fourth joint venture battery cell factory. It has announced three others with South Korea’s LG Energy Solution. A 900-worker factory near Warren, Ohio, already is making cells, as is a plant in Spring Hill, Tennessee. Another in Lansing, Michigan, is being built.

GM switched to Samsung after several recalls of Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles equipped with LG batteries due to manufacturing defects that could cause fires.

Automakers mainly in the U.S. and Europe have delayed battery and electric vehicle production as sales have slowed. Last week, Ford announced it would postpone a new big electric pickup truck by 18 months and scrub a new large electric SUV with three rows of seats. Instead it will focus on electric midsize pickups and a commercial van, as well as gas-electric hybrids.
