Contrary to the Submariner’s adaption to adventures under the sea, the Rolex Yacht-Master (Ref. 116622), with its bright blue dial or mother-of-pearl watch face, is made for life on the water as well as on land. Its bi-directional rotatable bezel allows for exact timekeeping on the high seas. Only high-quality materials are used in the production of this elegant watch: 18 carat yellow gold or 950 platinum. Excellent quality is characteristic of the Yacht-Master: A scratch-proof sapphire crystal, a Cyclops lens, the uniquely innovative Oyster case, and the unrivalled Parachrom hairspring are just some of the outstanding features that make this Rolex watch a true masterpiece.

There is only one Oyster Professional watch that can be purchased in two sizes: the Rolex Yacht-Master. The 40mm model is equipped with the self-winding Rolex calibre 3135 while the smaller 35mm model offers the mechanical Rolex calibre 2235. The production and manufacturing of both calibres are conducted entirely by Rolex and the movements are certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC).

Another technological feature of the Rolex Yacht-Master I is the blue Parachrom hairspring. Following years of research, Rolex introduced the blue Parachrom hairspring, which is finer than a human hair. Manufactured from a highly stable paramagnetic alloy, the Parachrom hairspring resists magnetic fields and is ten times less sensitive to shocks as compared to conventional oscillator hairsprings. All these innovative features are protected by a waterproof Oyster case whose name stems from the mollusc that can clamp its shell shut, unlike any other living creature. The Oyster case is screwed shut and can thus offer different degrees of water-resistance. The Oyster bracelet is an exceptionally robust innovation that combines elegance and function with a sensationally comfortable fit. After the development of the Rolex Yacht-Master prototype in the 1960s, the world eagerly awaited an additional 30 years for the introduction of the first Rolex Yacht-Master (Ref. 16628) in 1992. Today, Rolex watches have become the ultimate symbol of power, prestige, and precision. That said, there can be no luxury watch company in need of an introduction than Rolex.

A brand whose name is known worldwide, beyond the boundaries of the watch industry, Rolex watches are synonymous with luxury, quality, and precision. Crafted from the finest raw materials, Rolex watches are designed, developed, and produced to the exacting standards. With meticulous attention to detail, each timepiece boasts small yet very precise movements.

More than just an ordinary wristwatch, Rolex watches are exquisitely high-end, easily recognizable, and made with in-house calibers. A symbol of power, prestige, and precision, many Rolex models have the potential to appreciate in value.

History of Rolex Watches

At the age of 24, Hans Wilsdorf founded a company in London specializing in the distribution of timepieces. In 1905, Wilsdorf and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis, established Wilsdorf & Davis Ltd. to assemble and market watches using works imported from Switzerland.

Wilsdorf already had a vision of creating timepieces that could be worn around the wrist. Unfortunately, wristwatches, during those times, were not very precise. However, Hans Wilsdorf believed otherwise. He believed wristwatches could be both elegant and reliable.

In 1908, he came up with the brand name Rolex and registered it as a trademark. He set out to create wristwatches that were both manly and fashionable. Plus, to convince the public of the timepieces’ reliability, he equipped his timepieces with small, very precise movements manufactured by a Swiss watchmaking company in Bienne.

In 1914, the British government certified a Rolex as the first wristwatch to pass a test of durability and accuracy. This certification was only typically given to marine chronometers.

In 1915, the company was renamed Rolex Watch Co. Ltd. and in 1919, the company moved to Geneva – a city renowned internationally for watchmaking. Montres Rolex S.A., a French-language corporate name, was registered in Geneva in 1920.

In 1926, Hans Wilsdorf invented the Oyster Perpetual, the world’s first waterproof self-winding wristwatch with a Perpetual rotor. The Oyster has since become the benchmark in quality and prestige.

This timepiece is the epitome of a waterproof timepiece – precise, robust, and will withstand different types of conditions.

But Hans Wilsdorf didn’t stop there. The company continued to push beyond boundaries and drive innovation.

How Much Does a Pre-Owned Rolex Watch Cost?

Pre-owned Rolex watches typically sell between S$2,391 and S$256,932. For example, the Rolex Submariner, one of the brand’s most popular models, costs between S$16,155 – S$75,816 in the private market.

The retail price of a water-resistant, stainless steel Rolex Submariner ref. 114060 costs around S$10,854 at an official Rolex retailer in Singapore. The same model could cost around S$19,146 at a private marketplace.
