Sail Away to Fun: Nautical Party Ideas for a Maritime Adventure on the High Seas!

If you're looking to host a party that sets sail into a sea of fun and adventure, a nautical-themed gathering is the perfect choice. Whether you're celebrating a birthday, a graduation, or just want an excuse to bring friends and family together, a maritime-themed party is sure to make waves. In this blog post, we'll dive deep into nautical party ideas that will help you create an unforgettable maritime adventure on the high seas.

Setting the Scene

Nautical Party Ideas

The success of any party begins with the right atmosphere. When it comes to a nautical-themed party, creating the perfect maritime setting is essential. Here's how you can set the scene:

  • Invitations

Start by designing invitations that resemble old treasure maps or ship logs. Use parchment-style paper and add nautical symbols like anchors, steering wheels, and compass roses. Don't forget to include witty phrases like "Chart a course for adventure!" to get your guests excited about the journey ahead.

  • Decorations

Transform your party space into a maritime wonderland. Hang fishnets, lifebuoys, and seashells on the walls. Use navy blue, white, and red as your primary color scheme to evoke a classic nautical vibe. You can also scatter sand or crushed seashells on the floor to mimic the feel of a beach.

  • Table Settings

Set the tables with maritime flair. Choose navy blue and white striped tablecloths, and use rope or jute twine as napkin rings. Place miniature sailboats or lighthouses as centerpieces. For place cards, opt for seashell-shaped holders with each guest's name on them.

Dress the Part

To fully immerse your guests in the maritime adventure, encourage them to dress in nautical attire. Here are some ideas for dressing the part:

Captain and Crew: Some guests can come as the captain of the ship, complete with a captain's hat and a navy blazer, while others can dress as crew members with sailor hats and striped shirts.

Pirates: Invite some guests to embrace their inner pirates with eye patches, bandanas, and plenty of "Ahoy, matey!" greetings.

Mermaids and Mermen: For a touch of fantasy, some guests can dress as mermaids with seashell bras and flowing, shimmering skirts, while others can be mermen with tridents and scales.

Nautical Eats and Treats

Nautical Eats and Treats

No party is complete without delicious food and treats. Here's how you can infuse a nautical theme into your menu:

  • Seafood Extravaganza

Serve a seafood feast with options like shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, and fish tacos. Don't forget to offer a variety of dipping sauces and lemon wedges for that extra zing.

  • Nautical-Inspired Desserts

Get creative with your desserts. Craft anchor-shaped cookies, sea-themed cupcakes with edible seashells, and a cake resembling a treasure chest overflowing with edible jewels.

  • Ocean-Inspired Drinks

Serve up refreshing ocean-inspired beverages like blue raspberry lemonade or a signature cocktail like "The Captain's Grog." Don't forget to provide non-alcoholic options for guests of all ages.

Games and Activities

Nautical party Games and Activities

Keep your guests entertained with nautical-themed games and activities:

  • Treasure Hunt

Organize a treasure hunt where guests follow a series of clues to find hidden "buried treasure." Use pirate-themed props and maps for added authenticity.

Set up a small pool or basin for miniature boat races. Guests can decorate and race toy boats, competing for the title of the fastest sailor.

  • Nautical Trivia

Test your guests' maritime knowledge with nautical trivia questions and see who can earn the title of "Master of the High Seas."

Party Favors

Nautical Party Favors

Send your guests off with a little piece of the maritime adventure to remember the party by. Some great party favor ideas include:

Nautical Keychains: Customized keychains with the date of the party and a nautical charm.

Seashell Soaps: Handcrafted seashell-shaped soaps that smell like the ocean.

Message in a Bottle: Miniature bottles filled with a personalized thank-you message and some sand or seashells.

Nautical Playlist

To keep the maritime ambiance going, curate a playlist filled with sea shanties, classic nautical tunes, and ocean-inspired melodies. Songs like "Sailing" by Christopher Cross, "Beyond the Sea" by Bobby Darin, and "Rock the Boat" by Hues Corporation can add the perfect soundtrack to your maritime adventure.

Creative Photo Booth

Set up a photo booth area with nautical-themed props such as sailor hats, captain's wheel, and lifebuoys. Encourage your guests to take memorable photos that will serve as souvenirs from the high seas adventure. You can even provide a backdrop featuring an ocean or a pirate ship for that extra touch of authenticity.

Nautical Crafts

For a fun and interactive activity, set up a crafting station where guests can make their own nautical-themed keepsakes. Provide materials for creating friendship bracelets with marine-themed charms or decorating wooden picture frames with seashells and beach glass. This not only keeps your guests engaged but also gives them a unique memento to take home.

Maritime Movie Marathon

If you have the space, consider setting up an outdoor movie screening with classic maritime films such as "Pirates of the Caribbean," "Finding Nemo," or "Captain Phillips." Provide blankets and popcorn for an enjoyable cinematic experience under the stars.

Sunset Cruise (Virtual or Real)

If your budget allows, consider taking your guests on a real sunset cruise if you're near the coast. Alternatively, you can organize a virtual sunset cruise experience by streaming a prerecorded video of a serene sea journey on a big screen. Provide drinks and appetizers for a relaxing evening on the "high seas."

A nautical-themed party is an exciting way to celebrate any occasion and create lasting memories. By paying attention to the details like decorations, costumes, delicious treats, and engaging activities, you can ensure that your maritime adventure on the high seas is a resounding success. 32. Nautical Cupcake Toppers

If you are looking for a way to spice up your dessert presentation, boat-themed cupcake toppers are a perfect choice. Not only do they add a cute addition to your cupcakes, but they can be used to top any type of food you are serving, including fruit bowls, shrimp cocktails, or even a boat-themed cake.

33. Boat Cupcake Stand

If you decide to serve cupcakes at your party, a great way to showcase them would be with a boat theme cupcake stand!

34. Take the Helm

An inflatable boat wheel allows everyone to be a captain and pretend to steer the ship! It's an excellent addition to a nautical photoshoot or just a decoration on the side. It also works nicely as a prop for creative play during a children's party. You could also place one on your cake table to give detail to cake picture shots.

35. Boat Food Party Trays

Boat shaped party food trays make it easy for your guests to serve themselves from the table. And boat-shaped models lend a fun twist to your nautical decor. Two distinct portions at the front and back allow diners to distinguish between a sweet or savory cuisine. And a convenient beverage holder in the center console will keep them hydrated as they socialize.

Boat Theme Party Invitations

Boats are an essential icon for these events, but there are other options as well. Try one of these fun boat theme party invitation ideas.

36. Passport

Create a passport for each of your guests out of cardstock. Write your party information on the inside left flap of the passport. If you have pictures of all of your guests put them on the right side. Add official-looking stamps and seals for greater effect. Alternatively, you can buy premade sets of blank passports if you prefer.

37. Nautical Theme Online Invitations

If you prefer sending your party invites online instead of through the mail, there are plenty of nautical theme online invitations to choose from. You can never go wrong with a blue and white theme!

38. Message in a Bottle

Fill several plastic or glass bottles partway with sand. Write your party information on a piece of paper then roll the paper up and slide it inside the bottle. Close the bottle with a cork and stick a mailing label onto the side. This creative idea is sure to delight your guests with its dramatic flair!

If you’re seeking a unique and unforgettable way to bring your loved ones together, hosting a boat party is the perfect answer.

Picture this: a gentle breeze, sparkling waters, and the camaraderie of your closest friends and family members, all aboard a stylish boat rental (thanks, Boatsetter !) To help you start planning your best boat party, we’ve compiled a list of nine themes for a boat party they’ll never forget.

  • Nautical extravaganza
  • Tropical paradise
  • Pirate adventure
  • Under the sea
  • Gatsby glamor
  • Hawaiian luau
  • Mardi Gras madness
  • All-white party

Got your party hat on? Let’s dive right in.

Boatsetter’s happy to help—Throw your party on a boat rental!

1. Nautical extravaganza

Nautical theme boat party.

Lean into the magic of being on the water with a Nautical Extravaganza boat party theme. Think navy and white decorations, ropes, and sailor hats. Your guests can dress the part in sailor and captain costumes, or keep it simple with white attire and navy accents.

Whether you’re catering or cooking yourself, fish and chips is a simple classic, as timeless as the nautical theme! And you can spice things up with a signature Captain’s Punch or Blue Lagoon Cocktails.

2. Tropical paradise

Tropical theme boat party.

Transform your boat into a slice of serenity with a Tropical Paradise boat party. Illuminate your decks with tiki torches, hang vibrant palm leaves, and drape colorful fabrics to recreate the lush allure of a tropical oasis.

Bring this boat party theme to life with Piña Coladas and Mai Tais, served alongside coconut shrimp, Hawaiian BBQ skewers, and a tropical fruit platter!

3. Pirate adventure

Pirate theme boat party.

Plan a boat party with an adventurous twist when you set sail on a Pirate Adventure. Decorate with treasure chests, rustic maps, and skull-and-crossbones. Your crew can look the part with pirate hats, bandanas, and eye patches. For a fun activity, organize a ship-wide treasure hunt.

We recommend a themed menu with dishes like Buccaneer’s BBQ ribs and “Shiver Me Timbers” Seafood Gumbo. As for drinks, offer Dark ‘n’ Stormy cocktails, made with rum and ginger beer, or mix your own Pirate’s Punch.

4. Under the sea

Under the sea theme boat party.

Dive into the depths with an Under the Sea Fantasy theme. Use shades of blue and green, with shimmering decorations to mimic the ocean’s allure. If your guests want to go all in, encourage them to wear mermaid costumes, pirate costumes, or fish-inspired looks.

Serve up “sea-themed sips”, like an Ocean Breeze, made with blue curaçao and vodka, or a Seashell Spritzer (add edible glitter for an unforgettable sparkle).

5. Gatsby glamor

Gatsby theme boat party.

Gatsby Glamor is a gateway boat party theme idea. You can step back into the roaring twenties with a Gatsby theme, or pick whatever era excites you the most (60s, 70s, 80s, and so on!)

Sticking with Gatsby: infuse your boat with the opulence of the era. We recommend gold accents, Art Deco glamor, feather centerpieces, and a champagne tower. A live jazz band can set the tone of your luxurious affair.

Taste the twenties with a menu of Oysters Rockefeller, cocktail shrimp, and Gatsby-style canapés, complimented with Champagne Cocktails and Sidecars.

6. Neon glow

Neon theme boat party.

If you’re hosting a boat party after dark, a Neon Glow theme is the perfect way to light up the night. Illuminate your boat with black lights and fluorescent decorations. Enhance the atmosphere with neon-colored cocktails, glow-in-the-dark games, and upbeat music .

We recommend taking your boat party to the next level with a professional DJ and laser light show!

7. Hawaiian luau

Hawaiian theme boat party.

A Hawaiian Luau is another classic boat party theme idea. Your guests can kick back in Hawaiian shirts, grass skirts, and flower leis. Colorful flowers, tiki torches, and bamboo décor will transform your boat into an island escape.

A Tropical Breeze Cooler is the perfect signature cocktail for your Luau. Mix coconut rum (or coconut water for a non-alcoholic option) with pineapple juice, orange juice, cranberry juice, and a splash of grenadine for a swirl of tropical flavors.

8. Mardi Gras madness

Mardi Gras theme boat party.

Capture the vivacious energy of New Orleans with the Mardi Gras Madness boat party theme. Bedeck your boat with traditional Mardi Gras colors (purple, green, and gold) and encourage your guests to wear masks, beads, and feathers to bring this theme alive. You can curate a festive ambiance by hiring a jazz band and serving traditional Cajun cuisine.

9. All-white party

All-white theme boat party.

For our last boat party theme idea, we recommend throwing a White Party. White parties are the perfect way to create casual elegance. Decorate your vessel with whites, creams, and soft ambient lighting. Guests should wear all white to fit the theme and create a fully immersive experience.

Top it off with a menu of white-themed drinks and dishes, like White Russians, Peach Bellinis, lobster rolls, and caprese skewers.

On hosting the best boat party

Yo ho, yo ho a pirate’s life for me…or at least a party planners who loves cutesy little sea creatures and baked goods life for me.  I’ve been a girl mom for over 8 years.  I’m comfortable in my girl mom status and I love my little princess-girly-girl-divas.

Six months ago, however, I added a little man to my mommy stats and he is a welcome and completely new experience for our girl house.  So because of this little dude and his, well boyishness…I have had trucks and monsters and sailboats on the brain.

A nautical party is a great theme for a sweet little boy.  I envision a cute little chubby cheeked 2 year old in a sailor suit munching on crab shaped cookies.  Are you with me?

Craft and Sparkle

Chic & Inexpensive Nautical Dinner Party

This post may contain affiliate links. This means we get a small commission for all our recommendations at no extra cost to you.

When my husband wanted to invite his networking group friends over during the summer, we jumped at a chance to create a beautiful nautical themed dinner party.

Why You Should Consider a Nautical Dinner Party

nautical centerpiece

1- It’s inexpensive.

Believe it or not, we purchased a lot of the decor at Dollar Tree! Here are all the coastal themed elements you can find at your local dollar store:

  • Mini glass bottles
  • Starfish and shell decor
  • Wooden boats
  • Flat wooden nautical ornaments
  • White plates
  • Lifesaver candies
  • Dessert cups
  • Silver charges

rope candles

More Summer Tablescapes:

  • Vibrant Lemon Tablescape for Your Patio
  • Orange Themed Tablescape
  • Indoor Tropical Dinner Party

2 – DIY Nautical Decor

This adult dinner party really came together with some of the DIY projects. We make a gorgeous candle holder centerpiece from old wine bottles. We also spray-painted wine bottles blue and used them as flower vases. Finally, we used brown craft paper to create a gorgeous custom runner design.

blue and white centerpieces

3 – Great for any setting.

What’s great about this classic theme is that you can use it anywhere. On a boat, in a beach house on vacation, in your backyard, or even in your dining room. This indoor nautical tablescape will still impress your family and friends.

To begin this beautiful nautical tablescape, all you need is a white runner and a decorative fishnet. Tie the ends of the runner with rope.

ALSO GREAT FOR SUMMER: DIY Tutorial: Simple Wine-Themed Centerpiece

Wine Bottle Coastal Centerpiece

Wine bottle candle holders.

This gorgeous wine bottle centerpiece is one of our favorite elements on the table. The base is actually two galvanized trays stacked on top of each other. First a flat dessert tray and then a deep tray. This will hold the 3 wine bottles and let us add seashells and starfish in the between to fill in the holes.

DIY coastal centerpiece

Simply wrap the wine bottles in craft rope you can get online or at the dollar store. Insert candlesticks into the top of the wine bottles. You might have to shave the bottom of the candlesticks a bit to get them to fit into the bottle opening. This is a simple and easy way to upcycle used bottles.

DIY coastal centerpiece

Nautical Wine Bottle Flower Vases

On each side of the galvanized tray, we added these beautiful blue wine bottle vases. We simply spray-painted two wine bottles navy blue. Then we added a little bit of cotton twine and finished it off with wood anchors also from the Dollar Tree. You can find these in the craft aisle. Finish it off with fresh flowers from the garden.

DIY wine bottle craft

Around the centerpiece, we added decorative candles and really cute sailboats from the toy section at Dollar Tree.

ALSO GREAT FOR SUMMER: Elegant Indoor Tropical Dinner Party

Coastal Table Setting Ideas

Diy rope placemat, napkin rings, and drink coasters.

We ordered a large batch of rope and made our own rope themed items for the place setting.

First, the placemat. In order to put this round placemat together, we used a vinyl placemat from Dollar Tree. Use a small plate to trace a 9” circle on the placemat. This will serve as the base to the rope.

DIY rope placemat

Starting in the middle, hot glue the craft rope around until it covers the circle and continues past the vinyl until you can no longer see it.

DIY rope placemat

Do the same process for the coasters but a much smaller circle – about 4-5 inches.

Finally, to make the napkin rings, wrap the rope around itself 2-3 times. Use a napkin to measure the diameter and make sure the napkin fits.

blue and white place setting

Once you have made these elements, layer on white and blue plates onto the placemat. Thread the napkin and the utensils through the napkin ring and finalize with a nautical wooden ornament.

blue and white place setting

If you decide not to go with the rope themed placemats, you can also use silver chargers as a base.

blue and white place setting

Message in a Bottle Straws

We found these mini glass bottles at Dollar Tree and knew we had to incorporate them into the theme somehow. We ended up hot gluing one onto each straw.

seashell coaster

Nautical Themed Drink Station

By the wine bar, we created this mini drink station. Simply add mason jars onto the tray. Decorate the mason jar with a cute candy lifesaver that you tie around with twine. A double drink dispenser held water and lemonade with fresh blueberries.

dinner party drinks

Nautical Brown Paper Scroll

Our favorite DIY nautical decor element was this brown paper scroll we used as a countertop runner. We have seen these amazing paper scroll projects all over Pinterest and this was the perfect occasion to incorporate it into the decor since it matched the color of the rope.

life is better on a boat sign

Here we decided to use it as a runner. We let it roll off the side of the counter. Since Danny is an artist, she hand drew this “Life is Better on the Boat” sign.

Nautical Party Food You can Put Together in Minutes

Diy coastal dessert table.

I have a lot of space in my dining room but not a lot of furniture. We thought it would be fun to create a separate area to display the desserts ahead of time since we had so many cute desserts to match the nautical theme.

dessert table

We took two stools and layered on wooden crates. On top of that we added a long white shelf that we actually use as serving boards. And instantly we had a little make-shift table!

Sail away sign

We added more netting to the top, more of the DIY nautical wine bottles, and a pretty wooden sign that said “Sail Away”. Finally, we added pretty lanterns to the floor.

Boat Themed Food Ideas

You can’t have a nautical-themed party with super cute boat-shaped food! It’s so easy. All you need to make is a bunch of these paper sails on toothpicks. Then add it to ANY dessert.

Berry Parfait

Dollar Tree has an amazing array of partyware that you can use to create beautiful mini desserts. We grabbed these square cups and made a sweet berry parfait. Simply layer on yogurt and granola. The top layer is fresh blueberries to match the blue and white theme. Add a paper sail to the top.

Cantaloupe Boats

These cantaloupe boats are super easy to make. Simply cut out 1-2 inch thick slices and add a paper sail.

Bite-Sized Brownies

We make these brownie bites for so many parties because they are so easy to display. Top with confectioner’s sugar and yes, you guessed it, a paper sail!

DIY Nautical Party Banner

Since we were welcoming friends from a networking group, we made this pretty nautical banner. We took a few red and blue patterned pieces of paper and cut them into large 8” tall triangles. The letters were all red. We used a few separator panels with a boat, a lifesaver, and an anchor.

Nautical Birthday Party – AHOY MATE!

By: Jessica · Posted: Feb 15, 2019 · Updated: Jun 19, 2024 · This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy .

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas: An outdoor summer party for a water-loving kiddo, and all of his friends for a party play date!

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas, Boy or Girl! Navy Blue and White Dessert table! https://fantabulosity.com

Last year, we hosted a Crawfish Boil party for his 3rd birthday, and this year… we finally decided on a theme about 3 weeks before the big day. My little guy went back and forth:

A “Dino-Thomas,” birthday party! A “Superhero,” birthday! I know! A Lego birthday party!

…there were a few more ideas in there, like a fireman birthday party, but he just couldn’t make up his mind.

(So I took matters in to my own hands.)

I knew he loved water, and with his birthday being in Summer, I knew “water,” was going to the theme. So a nautical birthday party it was! Update: 3 years later, this is STILL his favorite birthday party theme!

It started out with designing a nautical invitation. (See how to create your own birthday party invites in Canva !) I created it, based on the “ vision ,” I had in my head of what I wanted the party to look like. (P.S. I blurred the bottom in this photo for privacy. )

Nautical Birthday Party Invitation! https://fantabulosity.com

Nautical Birthday Party Invitations

I printed the invites, rolled them up tight, taped them with nautical-anchor washi tape , and stuffed them in to little plastic bottles, for a message in a bottle invitation! I cut out little anchors with my silhouette machine , and tied them around the bottles with twine .

Nautical Birthday Party Invitation, Message in a bottle! So cute! https://fantabulosity.com

Delivering the Invites

Here’s the fun part! ( Note: I’ll say that about 10 times I’m sure.)   Since we kept it a small play date, we didn’t have to send out a TON of invitations. So to add to the fun, and anticipation of the party, we hand delivered the message in a bottle invitations to his little friends!

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas, Boy or Girl! fantabulosity.com-2

I promise I didn’t purposely put this anchor shirt on him to deliver the invites. But that worked out nice… 😉

So we didn’t bother the families on a Sunday afternoon, we just quietly placed the bottles on their porch steps, and I texted their mommies that they had a surprise waiting for them.

Party Time!

“Welcome to my Play Date”

If I’m able, I always like to make some sort of welcome sign, to let our guests know what door to come in. I tied the design of the invitations in our little welcome sign, to keep the theme rollin’. 😉

AHOY MATE! Welcome to my play date! https://fantabulosity.com

Nautical Party Favors

On the other side of the door, I put out little nautical beach bag favors, for the little guys and gals to grab on their way in. The bags were full of bubbles, sunglasses, water balloons, tattoos, a little wooden fish the kids could paint, and more!

DIY Tutorial: I purchased mine, but I don’t believe they’re available any more. You could easily get plain small canvas bags, and iron on an anchor with a cutout of heat transfer material from your Silhouette machine, or just cut out an anchor, and stencil paint it on each bag. 🙂

Pre & Post Play, Station

The last thing that you want your guests to do is worry about sunburns and bugs, at your outdoor party. To help the situation out a bit, I always try to provide the sunscreen and bug spray right at their fingertips to avoid any unnecessary troubles. I also wanted to have some towels handy, for the little guys playing in the water. Running in and out of the house, wet from the water games outside, can get cold in that air conditioning! 😉

Love this Pre-play & Post-play station! Sunblock, bug spray for when you're headed out to play in the water at the birthday party, and towels for when you're done! Brilliant! https://fantabulosity.com

Nautical Dessert Table – Sweets & Treats

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas, Boy or Girl! Navy Blue and White Dessert table! https://fantabulosity.com-35

Navy and White Party Decor

I know I say it every time, but this is seriously my favorite party theme yet. I’ve always had a crush on a navy and white color scheme, so it was a no-brainer when the party planning went in to works.

Food and Treats Tip:

After upteen parties that I have hosted, I’ve learned a valuable lesson . DON’T over do it on the treats. No… not for the reason that you think . It’s not the sugar highs, or the parents hating me because I’ve provided endless amounts of sugar for their kids… but rather:

THE KIDS DON’T EAT ALL OF IT! Dead serious. Don’t get me wrong… they’ll eat a cupcake, a cookie, maybe some ice cream… but they are way too busy playing with friends, the new toys laying around etc., that most of them barely even make it to the dessert table more than once.

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas! Or a baby shower! https://fantabulosity.com

Anchor Cookies

These cookies. OMG, can you BELIEVE how adorable these are!? Guess what… I found them on Etsy! Yes! Wooden It Be Sweet  has these in her shop, and she was MORE than accommodating with my needs! She shipped them to me, wrapped in the most precious little plastic bags, tied with twine. I was able to send some of them home with guests since they were wrapped {as an addition to the party favors}, and I unwrapped a few for the dessert table.

Look how cute these are wrapped:

Cupcakes + Cupcake Toppers

I can’t shout it from the rooftops loud enough, how PERFECT these nautical cupcakes were from MAB Cupcakes.   Like a crazy person, I waited until the last minute to order cupcakes. (I don’t recommend it.)  But when I put a call in to order the cupcakes, I simply just asked for some white cupcakes. I didn’t expect what I received…

Anchor cupcake toppers!!! I did mention that it was for the nautical birthday party that I was hosting, and if they had anything navy blue in the shop they could throw on… I’d be forever grateful. You guys… THIS WAS THE RESULT…

Nautical Birthday Party cupcakes! OMG so adorable! https://fantabulosity.com

NAILED it, right?! Holy moly. Thank you MAB Cupcakes!

P.S. I found the wooden board at a local antique shop, and it worked perfect to line the cupcakes on.

Blue Food??

I knew for the dessert table, I wanted to keep all of the food, white or navy blue. When I started to think of, “Blue food,” I’ll be honest… there wasn’t much out there. So I knew if I went to “white,” food, and just use Blue decor on the table, it should work out pretty well.

Mini Cheesecakes for navy blue and white party or baby shower. You'll faint when you find out how easy these are. This can't be. https://fantabulosity.com

I went to one of my trusty desserts for parties (that’s simple and delish), the ready-to-eat cheesecake filling.

At my All White Christmas party a while back, I took this filling, and filled mini shooters with graham cracker layers. This time, I just grabbed some fillo shells and filled them with the cheesecake filling, and topped them with a couple of blueberries. These would be soooo cute for a nautical baby shower too I must say!

Mini Cheesecakes for navy blue and white party or baby shower. You'll faint when you find out how easy these are. This can't be serious. https://fantabulosity.com

If you follow me on Facebook , you may have seen my little snapshot of my DIY process of making these. I was smitten with how cute they were looking. I found the idea on Pinterest, and cannot remember for the life of me who came up with this brilliant idea. If you know, please let me know! I’d love to link to them and give credit where credit is due!

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas, milk bottles with lifesaver candy wrapped around them! So cute! https://fantabulosity.com

I just grabbed lifesavers, and tied them on to the twine, (kind of like when I made the DIY nautical candles ) and wrapped it around the bottles. This DIY project went by in a flash.

White powdered donuts seem to always make an appearance on my dessert tables too. Mainly because I adore them. (Ahem… I mean my guests adore them.)

Nautical Birthday Party Ideas! White powdered donuts, so easy and cute! https://fantabulosity.com

I found cute little navy and white suckers before the party, and although I didn’t really have the “space,” for them, I did put a couple out on the table just to add a “sweet,” touch. 😉

Make Your Own Ice Cream Bar

In another corner of the backyard, I created an ice cream bar. With the hot month of June, an ice cream on a hot summer day is a treat! Literally!

Ice Cream Bar for an outdoor summer birthday party https://fantabulosity.com

Ice Cream Toppings

I put out blueberries, strawberries, chocolate chips, gummy bears, and crushed up Oreos, for the little ones to get creative. TIP… set this table up in the yard or somewhere that you don’t mind getting dirty! It had potential to get messy. 😉

Ice Cream Bar for an outdoor summer birthday party https://fantabulosity.com

There was a variety of flavored syrups too, and they were able to choose between a waffle cone or bowl! The kids had a BLAST choosing which toppings they wanted. Ok ok… I did too.

Ice Cream Bar for an outdoor summer birthday party https://fantabulosity.com

Snack + Toy Cart – Finger Foods

I put up a little snack cart with chips, in case anyone got hungry and was missing a sweet tooth. Putting them in to canisters makes it look a little fancier than just a few chip bags laying around. This is where I also stored overflow of bubbles, sailor hats, and other little goodies.

Snack cart for a birthday party! Love how the chips are in canisters! https://fantabulosity.com

Since it was a kiddo party, I wanted to make sure we had plenty of kid-friendly drinks. Lemonade and water took up the main stage in my drink dispensers.

Drink Dispensers for a party, on a stand. So cute! https://fantabulosity.com

Not pictured: The adults may or may not have had an “adult beverage,” section too. 😉

My boys and their little guests had a blast in the water. Water sprinklers, water balloons, and just tubs of water! Fun for hours.

I had such a good time designing this party. I already can’t wait for my other kiddos birthday this Fall. Let the ideas and designing begin!

So step this way to be inspired!

Table of Contents

Boat Party Themes

Boat themed accessories, boat themed food and drink, boat party games, ready for your boat theme party.

Vintage

The first thing to consider is exactly what you want you r boat-related theme to be. It’s fine to just choose a general boaty vibe! But you could also add a more specific twist.

One way to do that is by adding some vintage charm to your boat theme. Those vintage touches could be as striking or as subtle as you like.

How about decorating with nautical bunting, and adding some sweet vintage toppers to your cupcakes? Or ask your guests to dress up in clothes from the era of your choice.

2. Sailboat

Sailboat

Sailboats are surely one of the most romantic ways to travel the seas. So why not add a dash of sailboat style to your boat themed party?

A sailboat party cake will make a great centerpiece. But you could also turn your venue into a sailboat by suspending fabric “sails” from the ceiling. Sheets cleverly draped can create an instant nautical atmosphere. Adding some fairy lights will bring some magic too.

3. Love Boat

Love Boat

The Love Boat was an iconic 70s TV show that told stories of love and romance aboard cruise ships. And what better excuse to get dressed up as a 70s glamorpuss than a Love Boat themed party?!

Test your guests’ knowledge with a 70s trivia quiz while you blast out some 70s tunes. And serve up classic dishes from the era, like prawn cocktail and cheese and pineapple on sticks.

Cruise

For a fun and sophisticated event, a cruise-themed party is a great option. Decorate with marine colors like blue and white, and hang bunting from the ceiling. Add some porthole cut-outs to the walls, and you’re away!

You could even have a “captain’s table” for VIP guests.

5. Anchors Away

Anchors Away

Dotting some boat themed accessories around your venue is a great way to enhance your theme.

Oversized inflatables and other fun objects are amazingly effective at getting everyone into the party spirit. Mark our words, it won’t be long before your guests are using them to pose for pics.

This large plastic anchor is a perfect example, and would work brilliantly at any boat-themed party.

6. Nautical Cut-Outs

Nautical Cut-Outs

Nautical cut-outs are a quick, easy and inexpensive way to create your party theme . If you’re arty, you could get some cardboard and paints and make them yourself. But there are also lots of ready-made options to inject color and humor into your party.

Stick them to walls, or place them near entry points for instant nautical appeal.

7. Marine Table Covers

Marine Table Covers

If you want minimal party clear-up, wipe-clean table covers are a must. And for a boat-themed party, you want them to have a nautical look.

There are lots of great options out there that can help bring your theme to life. Look for classic motifs like boats, anchors , fish or seashells.

8. Life Preserver Centerpieces

Life Preserver Centerpieces

Centrepieces are a great way to add interest to your party tables. Simple cardboard versions are inexpensive, but can look great.

We love this one decorated with life preservers. And the foil adds some extra sparkle – perfect for when the lights go down!

9. Take The Helm

Take The Helm

Everyone can play at being captain with this inflatable boat wheel! It’s a great accessory for a nautical photo booth (more on that later). And it works just as well as a prop for imaginative play at a kids’ party.

You could even prop one on your cake table to add an extra detail to cake-cutting photos.

10. Boating Bunting

Boating Bunting

Bunting adds instant fun to any party atmosphere. And if you’re planning a boat-themed party, it’s a cheap and effective way to customize your surroundings.

Standard bunting often features on cruise ships, so pretty much any kind will work with a boat theme. But you can also find novelty versions like this colorful chain of anchors for extra pizzazz.

11. Boat Food Party Trays

Boat Food Party Trays

Party food trays are a fun and convenient way for your guests to help themselves from the buffet. And these boat-shaped versions offer a humorous addition to your nautical theme .

Two separate sections at front and back – or should that be bow and stern?! – allow guests to separate sweet from savory food. And a handy drinks holder in the center console will keep them refreshed while they mingle.

12. Nautical Balloons

Nautical Balloons

No party is complete without balloons! Go to town with a striking feature like this enormous anchor made of balloons. Or stick to simple blue and white color combinations to create a nautical atmosphere.

You can also find balloons printed with marine motifs like crabs and anchors. And when it comes to balloons, the more the merrier. Just make sure you invest in a pump to get them all inflated!

13. Anchor Floral Centerpieces

Anchor Floral Centerpieces

Floral centerprieces are a great way to add sophistication to any gathering. And with a little creativity, you can craft something that adds to your boat theme.

We love the way this mason jar has been accessorized with nautical colors and an anchor. The anchor here is embellished with initials, but you could also add a date or message.

Choose flowers in blue and white to complement the marine color scheme.

14. Boat Themed Favors

Boat Themed Favors

Party favors are an easy way to reinforce your chosen theme. And you can spend as much or as little on them as you like.

We love these sailor hats and captain’s hats. You could even have them adorned with your guests’ names or nicknames.

Or if your party is strictly for grown-ups, how about a miniature rum bottle? You could even get the date or text added to the label to commemorate your special occasion.

15. Sailboat Serving Station

Sailboat Serving Station

Turn your serving table into a dramatic focal point by transforming it into a boat! It’s surprisingly easy to do, and will work pretty much anywhere.

Here, a standard kitchen island has been turned into a sailboat with the addition of a painted cardboard panel, a sheet and some bunting. It takes a little preparation, but it’s not expensive or difficult. And it will be a real talking point for your guests.

16. Nautical Popcorn

Nautical Popcorn

Popcorn is great party food, because it can be prepared ahead of time and served at any temperature. Serve it in jaunty popcorn boxes to fit in with your party theme .

This is another case where you could make the boxes yourself if you’re feeling crafty. But if you prefer to minimize preparation time, there are lots of great ready-made options out there.

We love these smart navy and white boxes, complete with a striking red anchor on each side.

17. Sailboat Jello

Sailboat Jello

No kids’ party is complete without jello! And when it looks as good as these jello sailboats, adults will be queuing up to enjoy it too.

Here blue jello doubles as a placid lake on which an orange segment acts as a boat. Add a cocktail stick with a paper sail, and you have a very attractive dessert. It couldn’t be easier to make, yet looks impressive too.

18. Anchor Salad

Anchor Salad

The different colors of salad vegetables make them a great way to depict a scene. Here, slices of cucumber form an anchor . Contrasting carrot, celery, broccoli and peppers add color.

You could use the same approach to create pretty much any marine motif you like. How about a life preserver? A sailboat? Or even a pirate?

Just keep it simple so the picture stands out from the background.

19. Crab Croissants

Crab Croissants

Had you ever noticed how much croissants look like crabs?! Neither had we, until we saw this clever creation!

The eyes here are edible sugar eyeballs from cake decorating firm Wilton. Just secure them in place with frosting, and hey presto! Your croissants are instantly transformed into crustaceans.

And when it comes to fillings, the world is your – ahem – oyster! Choose classics like ham, cheese and salad as a savory option. Or add jam or chocolate paste for those with a sweet tooth.

20. Pepper Crab and Nachos

Pepper Crab and Nachos

Here’s another clever way to create a crab! Choose an orange pepper and slice off the bottom. Turn it upside down, so that the flat section sits on the plate. Then cut the remaining piece of pepper into slices to use as the legs.

Edible eyeballs add instant character. You could use your pepper crab as a topping for chips or nachos. Or surround it in a sea of hummus for a sea life themed vegetable chip and dip.

21. Healthy Sailboat Desserts

Healthy Sailboat Desserts

We’ve already seen that adding sailboat toppers can add nautical charm to your cupcakes. But you can perform a similar trick with healthier dessert options too. And they taste every bit as good!

These sophisticated individual desserts combine creamy Greek yogurt with blueberries and granola. You could add a drizzle of honey on top for extra sweetness. Using glass pots, as here, will allow you to see the beauty of the different layers.

Then just pop your sail on top, and you have a smart and healthy sailboat dessert.

These boat party games will make your event the best it can be, creating some fun and great memories. Fun games make people excited and want to win. And the beautiful and exquisite game prizes can make people actively participate in the process. As a boat party, you can customize enamel pins, commemorative coins or beautiful keychains as a reward. They can both fit the theme of the boat and can be kept for a long time and carried around. GS-JJ can offer you a wide range of prizes to purchase, so check them out! Order Now

Game-pins

22. Diving Competition

Diving Competition

All the best parties involve games. And if you’re lucky enough to own a boat, why not make the most of it with a diving competition? Just make sure you moor somewhere the water is safe and deep.

Offer prizes for the best dives. And if you have guests who prefer to spectate, get them to give the competitors marks out of 10. You could even make score cards for them to hold up.

23. Swimming Race

Swimming Race

Boats and swimming are natural companions – so why not add a swimming race to your party? Of course, this only works if you’re actually on a boat, or at a pool. But if that’s the case, this is another easy way to raise energy levels and have a laugh.

Just as with the diving competition, adding prizes will make things more interesting. They don’t have to be big or expensive. For kids, a chocolate medal will go down a treat.

24. Deck Quoits

Deck Quoits

If you’re looking for a less energetic option, how about a game of quoits? Traditionally played on the decks of boats, quoits work just as well whether your party is on water or dry land.

If you want to splash some cash (pardon the pun) you can buy a set. But it’s easy to make your own DIY version too.

Just fill some plastic bottles with sand to weigh them down. Then mark a number on the front with a sharpie. That’s the number of points you’ll get if your quoit lands over the bottle. For the quoits themselves, just tie some rope or heavy cord in a loop. You’re all set!

25. Nautical Photo Booth

Nautical Photo Booth

A nautical photo booth is a great addition to any boat themed party. And it’s surprisingly easy to set one up.

All you’ll need is a stripey piece of fabric and a tall frame to support if from. Choose colors like red and white, or navy and white, to fit the maritime theme. Then accessorize – life preservers, inflatable anchors, even toy boats will work brilliantly.

If you don’t mind a bit of mess, you could create a beach area in front. Just lay some plastic on the floor and cover it with sand.

Then let your guests loose, and enjoy the photos later!

That brings us to the end of our 25 boat theme party ideas! We hope it’s given you plenty of inspiration for your own event.

Start by deciding on exactly what your theme will be. Will it be boats in general? Or do you want to give it a twist – like a glamorous cruise themed party, or a pirate party for the kids?

Whatever you choose, there are loads of ways to bring your theme to life. Think about décor, food choices and games, and you’re sure to create a party to remember. Then just sit back, relax and enjoy it!

8 amazing DIY nautical party decorations you can make in a weekend

Ahoy matey! Setting sail for a nautical birthday party? Then you’d better make sure the decorations are ship shape. Sure, you can head online and order some splashy nautical- themed decorations or you can have a little fun with the kiddos and create DIY nautical party decorations. There are quite a few easy do-it-yourself nautical crafts you can make that’ll give party-goers that pleasant ocean breeze feel. Here are eight cool DIY nautical decorations that catch the wave.

Nautical birthday party

1. sand jars, 2. shell jars, 3. starfish garland, 4. shell garland, 5. starfish wreath, 6. shell wreath, 7. hanging fishnet, 8. painted oars, other nautical diy party decorations, concluding thoughts.

Before pulling up the anchor and diving into a nautical birthday party, take a look around the house and see what you already have. Anything related to the ocean, such as paintings of the beach, lighthouses, shells, flip-flops, and buckets or pails, can help add a nautical theme to the party. Once you’ve seen what you have to turn the backyard or designated party area into a coastal scene, it’s time to get crafty.

This is a very simple craft and one that’s ideal for younger children. To make these nautical decorations, all you need are empty glass jars and craft sand. Mason jars are a perfect pick, but you can also clean and use jars from the recycling bin. Just make sure the inside is dry before spooning in the sand.

Since it’s a nautical theme, pick colors that remind you of the seaside like blue, green, and white. You can find craft sand online or at arts and craft stores. To create, spoon in the different colored sand. Make a pattern to mimic waves or be eclectic. When finished, the jars make for pretty accents on the table or mantle. If the party is outside, add a votive candle .

For a seashore-inspired table topper or accent, take empty glass jars or vases and fill them with small shells or broken shell pieces. Small shells are available online and at craft stores, as are shell pieces . If you live near the shore, collecting your own is a wonderful activity for the whole family.

Add a festive touch to a nautical-themed birthday party by making a starfish garland. All you need to create this decoration, which you can hang on the window, railing, or above the door, is twine and starfish. You can find starfish online or at most craft shops.

To make this garland, cut a piece of twine to the desired length. Make a loop on each side to hang. Then cut shorter pieces of twine about 4 to 5 inches in length. Tie one end around the leg of a starfish and the other end to the longer piece of twine. The starfish hangs down from the twine. Tie the next starfish about 4 inches away. Keep adding starfish until you come almost to the end of the twine.

To make a shell garland, cut a piece of twine to the needed length, making a loop on either side to hang. Then cut pieces 4 to 5 inches in length to tie to the garland. Using a hot glue gun, glue the string to the back of small shells.

For a cute starfish wreath to hang on the door to greet guests or around the room where the birthday party is taking place, take a natural grapevine wreath and hot glue starfish all around it. Allow it to dry before hanging.

Instead of starfish, a shell wreath makes for an inviting decoration for a nautical party. Take different sizes of shells and use a glue gun to attach them to the natural grapevine wreath.

Hang a decorative fishnet on the wall. Have the kiddos use paint markers to decorate scallop shells . Attach the shells to the netting using a glue gun.

You can’t have a nautical-themed party without oars. Take unfinished oars and have the kids decorate them using paint markers or acrylic paint. When the oars are completely dried, take a black paint marker to print the birthday child’s name. Hang the painted oars to add a decorative nautical touch.

  • Anchor garland – Have the kids paint unfinished wooden anchors. When dried, string them on twine for a fun garland or hang them from ribbons around the room or along a railing.
  • Life preservers – Using paint markers, turn unfinished wooden napkin rings into life preserver rings. When dried, put the guest of honor’s name or “Happy Birthday” on each ring.
  • Fish garland – Use different colored construction paper or felt to cut out fish. Use the fish cutouts to make a garland or hang from ribbons.

Going nautical for a birthday party is a fun and festive theme. Take a good look around the house to see what nautical-inspired things you can use to decorate before getting crafty with these easy DIY nautical party decorations. Whether you’re hosting the birthday party at home or at a venue, you and the kids can put together some sea-worthy nautical decorations with these eight DIY craft projects that’ll make you want to sail away.

Remember, planning birthday parties when your kids were little? Those were always super fun and relatively simple. Times change though when your once little ones become tweens. When kids get older, planning birthday parties becomes a bit more challenging. For tweens, party planning can be difficult because they are in the transitional phase between tween and teen. Tweens have outgrown the typical kid birthday parties, but they also aren't ready for celebrations more geared toward teens.

The tween age is the years from 9 to 12. So, your soon-to-be 12-year-old is almost a teenager and there are many sensational teen birthday party ideas. The problem is your tween isn't quite there yet. That's okay though. There isn't any need to rush the teen angst. It will arrive soon enough, and there are plenty of exciting tween birthday party ideas to make the guest of honor and the invitees happy.

All birthdays are special when it comes to your kiddos, but three is a truly monumental birthday. You are ending the toddler phase with the third birthday, and that is certainly something to celebrate. Those terrible two are going bye-bye, and your toddler is about to become a preschooler. A three-year-old birthday party is probably the first one your little guy or gal will be inviting some friends of their own.

Kiddos love birthday parties, especially when all the gifts have their names on them. Of course, you want to throw a party your child and his or her friends will totally enjoy without making you crazy. Don't start stressing already. There are lots of birthday party ideas to make your little one's special day amazing while keeping your stress level to a minimum.

Once the Thanksgiving turkey is tucked away, you can't ignore the holiday spirit jiggling around. Sure, August is way too early for jingle bells, but not once Santa makes his annual appearance in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Of course, with the holidays comes the rush of decorating, shopping, wrapping, baking, and cooking. Don't get too busy, though, because there’s something truly magical about making memories around Christmas time, especially for families.

Capturing the festivities in a special and exciting way are fantastic opportunities for moms, dads, and kids to use kid-centered crafts to spark new traditions that can become time-honored ones ... perhaps even carrying on through the years into the next set of branches on the family tree. Handmade ornaments kids paint, color, and create before being carefully placed on the family Christmas tree are true keepsakes. Their homemade Christmas ornaments continue to bring light and joy each holiday season.

Sailboat and Nautical themed party supplies

Invitation Ideas Invitations with pictures of sailboats - cut out pictures of the birthday child and glue them on the cards so it looks like they are on the boat.

On note cards with a boat scene embellish them by cutting out sails from white fabric that match the sails on the card and then pasting the fabric sails on the card.  Only paste down one side of the sail so it looks like it is moving in the wind. Print out the party information on colorful paper and then fold into paper boats.

Decoration Ideas Decorate the nautical party area with large pieces of fabric attached to the walls to look like sails.   Cut out waves from blue construction paper and attach to tables, mantles, countertops and staircases.  Decorate the party table in blue, white, red and yellow.  Place sand in the center of the table with a few seashells.  Serve snacks in large seashells and/or colorful plastic kids pails and use shovels for serving.

Sailor Hats Write guests names in blue or red (or a combination) permanent marker on white sailor hats.  Let the kids decorate with markers, paint or stickers. Sailboat Capes Make party guests into boats by giving them their own "sail".  Make or buy capes in bright colors and let the guests wear them.

Nautical Party Ideas

With a sophisticated nautical party, you’ll be able to draw them in. For a summer party that’s a snap to pull off, try these drink, decoration, and party food suggestions.

Choose a theme, set up your party table, decorate with panache, and prepare a cuisine that is in keeping with the theme. These ideas are the first stop on your way to the summer’s most flamboyant nautical bash.

Nautical Party Decorations

A nautical theme has grown to represent a wide range of features and design sensibilities, from the strict regimen of a naval ship to the natural surroundings of the seaside.

Consider the worn wood of a fishing pier, the shiny chrome of an ocean liner, the vibrant colors of a sailing regatta, and the coastal characteristics of a seaside community as sources of inspiration.

Room decorations

Make a giant anchor out of blue and white balloons by hanging them all around. Make a photo booth out of an ordinary sheet by painting it navy and adding seaside-themed decorations.

Sailboats, anchors, and wheels are all fantastic sources of inspiration, and you can turn them into entertaining garlands by cutting out some cardboard.

Anchors, rope, and nautical patterned tablecloths and table runners can all be used as decorations. Create a variety of patterns for your nautical paper lanterns.

Table setting

At every gathering, the party table serves as a focal point for interaction. Using themed plates, napkins, cups, and flatware is an easy way to create an ocean-inspired aesthetic.

A well-dressed table contributes significantly to the ideal beach party mood. The tone is set when your party table and buffet look the part.

Perfect colors

Throughout the party space, use your chosen colors as accents. To make your colors pop, make the background white, beige, or black.

Remove any colors or things that compete with the palette you’ve chosen. To get the best effect, use each color at least 5 times. Use water-themed hues, such as light blue and/or aqua, as a background instead.

Food stations

Food stations, appetizer spreads, self-serve buffets, raw bars, dessert tables, and hors d’oeuvre trays are all great places to add distinctive embellishments to your food service.

In the center of the table, place a mast with sails. To transform a table, counter, or kitchen island into a sailboat, hang a sail and flags from the ceiling.

Using a white or solid-colored table skirt, cut out portholes. Cake stands, beverage tubs, and utensil holders should all be made of enamel or galvanized metal.

Nautical centerpiece & local points

Adjust heights with risers below a burlap runner with seashells, starfish, and marine glass.

Flickering tea lights or the delightful whimsy of fairy lights may provide another dimension.

Sailboats, ships & anchors, lobster & glass buoys, and other sailing, ocean, and nautical items can be used as centerpieces and focal points.

Painted oars

Oars are a must-have for any nautical party. Paint markers or acrylic paint on unfinished oars and let the youngsters decorate them.

After the oars have dried fully, write the birthday child’s name on them using a black paint marker. Add a beautiful nautical accent by hanging the painted oars.

Starfish garland

A starfish garland may be made to add a festive touch to a nautical-themed birthday celebration.

Only rope and starfish are required to make this decoration, which may be hung from a window, fence, or over the entrance. Starfish may be found at most craft stores or on the internet.

Shell garland

To build a shell garland, cut a piece of string to the desired length and make a hanging loop on both sides. To tie the garland together, cut sections 4 to 5 inches long. Apply hot glue to the backs of little shells to secure the string.

Nautical Party Cakes

The baking cups are in a light blue and white color scheme. Make fondant anchors and life buoys by tinting white fondant with blue and red icing color.

Refrigerate the toppers before standing them in the “foam” of frosting. Small anchor cutouts may be used to construct a chalk sign that reads “Cruisin’ Cupcakes” if you purchase the nautical centerpiece kit. Remove the anchors!
