Loch Lomond to Glencoe

Glencoe, Scotland

Loch Lomond to Glencoe Scenic Drive

Although the precise boundaries are not defined as such, the Scottish Highlands are culturally distinguishable from the Lowlands.

This area is also very important in Scottish history and the general history of the UK.

The scenic drive from Loch Lomond to Glencoe is a wonderful route to explore.

Especially if you happen to be in the Glasgow area or visiting other nearby towns and cities like Fort William, Edinburgh or Inverness.

If you are traveling from one end of Scotland to the other, consider a one way car rental and including this piece of road in your travel plans.

Sights to enjoy in Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond should not just be considered the starting point of your journey but a destination in itself.

Make sure that you spend at least a couple of days in this area before you make your way to Glencoe.

The Loch Lomond Bird of Prey Centre and the Loch Lomond Sea Life Aquarium are both great places to visit if you would like to get a good look at some wildlife and sea life.  It’s particularly entertaining and educational for children.

Main landmarks and important structures include Kilchurn Castle, Hill House and Clydebank Titan.

The Cobbler geological formations are very popular among tourists and other top nature escapes include Dochart Falls, the hike to Bracklinn Falls Bridge and Callander Crags, Loch Katrine and a visit to the Mugdock Country Park.

As you drive further along the route, you will reach the Argyll Forest Park.

Horse enthusiasts can enjoy a wonderful woodland ride with plenty of views of the surrounding mountains, glens and lochs.

Inveruglas is another scenic spot to stop and you can visit the Isle of Inveruglas as well.
