Ready & Set: Turquoise Launches Superyacht GO

By Ben Roberts

Turquoise Yachts has kept us in eager anticipation with their line-up of new and exciting new-builds. Launched on Tuesday 27th March, the 77-metre superyacht GO (previously known as NB63) is now their largest yacht to date, setting the tone for an increasingly successful future of beautifully styled giants.

With the striking profile and powerful lines owed to British studio H2 Yacht Design, GO is the predecessor to superyachts such as Vicky, and uses the expertise of the renowned studio for both first-impression outside and in. Having been sold in early 2017, the owner is expectant of a pure Turquoise pedigree, with the colour to match on its bold and bountiful hull.

With an aesthetic that calls for attention across an imposing 77-metres, this is an advancement of a winning formula, as explained by her builders when speaking with Superyachts.com during the early stages of her construction: “With Mr Barwani’s input on the exterior styling, we simplified it a little bit,” said Mehmet Karabeyoğlu, CEO of Turquoise Yachts. “ Developing Vicky to make it a little bit wider and longer [...] It’s not ultra modern and it’s not very classic. It’s a nice design which will age beautifully and will not go out of fashion quickly.”

This may be a project which builds on the basis and ideal of Vicky, but the GO evolved into a different superyacht entirely as the design language shifted to meet new client requirements and new technology. Her sleeker silhouette and clean design incorporate a stretched arch that runs to the aft of the vessel, providing an independent and distinctive character.

Notable design elements outlined at the release of her concept include a generous sundeck with 5m pool and a stunning beach club (162m2) aft with triple aspect and direct access to the sea. The central tender garage can accommodate 2 luxury tenders, a limo tender up to 10m and a multipurpose tender up to 8m with an elevator servicing all decks.

The tender garage that carries a 9,6m/ 31.2ft limo tender, as well as an 8m/26ft multipurpose tender amidship, leaving more space for a 162sqm/1,744sqft beach club with direct access to the sea.

She has a dedicated owner’s deck with a forward facing suite that vaunts uninterrupted panoramic views over the bow and access to a private outside lounge area with spa pool. Additional guest accommodations include 2 VIP suites, 6 guest staterooms, an expansive beach club, spa, gym, steam room and a vast sundeck with communal 5m/ 16.5ft pool.  A central elevator and staircase access to all decks.

We look forward to following her journey at sea, as well as the thriving portfolio of upcoming new-builds at the Turquoise Yard.

10 of the most impressive superyachts owned by billionaires

10 of the most impressive superyachts owned by billionaires

From a sailing yacht owned by a russian billionaire industrialist to the luxury launch of the patek philippe ceo, here are the best billionaire-owned boats on the water….

Words: Jonathan Wells

There’s something about billionaires and big boats . Whether they’re superyachts or megayachts, men with money love to splash out on these sizeable sea-going giants. And that all began in 1954 — with the big dreams of Greek shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis.

Onassis, keen to keep his luxury lifestyle afloat when at sea, bought Canadian anti-submarine frigate HMCS Stormont after World War II. He spent millions turning it into an opulent super yacht, named it after his daughter — and the Christina O kicked off a trend among tycoons. To this day, the world’s richest men remain locked in an arms race to build the biggest, fastest, most impressive superyacht of all. Here are 10 of our favourites…

Eclipse, owned by Roman Abramovich

7 of the largest yachts owned by American sports billionaires, ranked: From Dan Snyder’s Lady S, which has an IMAX theater, to the Dallas Cowboys owner’s $225 million superyacht. The most expensive vessel belongs to an immigrant who once washed dishes for $1.20 an hour.

7. Steve Bisciotti, Baltimore Ravens – Winning Drive, 130 feet-

Yachts are an extension of their owner’s personality, and the 130-footer Westport yacht is no different. As a young boy, the tycoon, who is worth $7.5 billion today according to Forbes, witnessed his father’s demise and the struggles of his middle-class Italian-American household. It was a winning drive that led 23-year-old Bisciotti to Aerotek, a staffing company in the aerospace and technology sectors, with his cousin Jim Davis.

6. Terry Pegula, Buffalo Sabres – Top Five Yacht, 200 feet-

The son of a truck driver from Quebec relied on his science degree in petroleum and natural gas engineering and $7,500 from family and friends in 1983 to start his natural gas drilling company. The 73-year-old made a fortune in oil and gas before transforming it into a sports empire that includes the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. The father of famous professional tennis player Jessica Pegula saw many highs, but the one we like most is the $75 million Royal Hakvoort vessel named after the owner’s five kids. The tycoon, worth $10.8 billion according to Forbes, has shown the world how to have a fun time with family when you can splurge $500,000 per week.

5. Stanley Kroenke, Los Angeles Rams – Aquila yacht, 281 feet-

This 77-year-old sports mogul has been honing his business acumen since childhood. Raised in Mora, Missouri, he started sweeping floors at his father’s lumber yard and managing the company’s books by age ten. After earning his MBA in 1973, he met Wal-Mart heiress Ann Walton in Aspen and married her a year later. In 1985, he launched his own real estate development company, and by 1994, he ventured into sports team ownership. With a net worth of $16.9 billion, the billionaire now commands an impressive portfolio, including the Denver Nuggets, Colorado Avalanche, Colorado Rapids, and the U.K.’s Arsenal soccer club. A major landowner, with over 1.6 million acres of ranches across the U.S. and Canada also owns the majestic Aquilla superyacht with his wife, Walmart heiress Ann Walton.

4. Arthur Blank, Atlanta Falcons – Dreamboat, 295 feet

This 81-year-old New York-born businessman founded Home Depot after being fired from a hardware store. As it turned out, this setback led to a revolutionary success, transforming the home improvement industry and making the Babson Institute graduate a billionaire . Worth $9.1 billion today, the father of nine from three marriages retired as Home Depot’s co-chairman in 2001 and purchased the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons for $545 million in 2002. He also commissioned the massive ‘DreAMBoat,’ highlighting his initials (Arthur Morris Blank), built by Oceanco with interiors designed by Terence Disdale.

superyacht go owner

3. Daniel Snyder, Washington Commanders – Lady S, 305 feet

Snyder is an enterprising businessman worth $4.5 billion who, as a 20-year-old college dropout, made his first million leasing jets to fly college students to spring break in Fort Lauderdale and the Caribbean. The 59-year-old operated that business out of his parents’ apartment. With a successful business called Snyder Communications, he had enough wealth to buy the NFL’s Washington Commanders for $750 million in 1999. Ten years later, the boy who mopped the floors at the cafeteria inside the National Institutes of Health as a high school student splurged on a whopping $192 million yacht, Lady S.

2. Jerry Jones, Dallas Cowboys – Bravo Eugenia, 358 feet

From co-captaining Arkansas’ 1964 national championship football team to acquiring the Cowboys from H. R. “Bum” Bright for $140 million in 1989 (now valued at a staggering $9 billion), the 81-year-old billionaire worth $14.5 billion has showcased that sports run deep in his veins. His passion extends to art, with a collection that includes masterpieces by Picasso, Renoir, and Matisse. His $225 million Oceanco-built superyacht stands as a testament to luxury, adorned with art, bespoke furniture, and Swarovski details, all reflecting his wife Gene’s exquisite taste.

The $360 million superyacht Kismet , meaning ‘destiny,’ is a lavish Lürssen vessel that comes with exciting features like a Balinese spa, a gym, two movie theaters, and three swimming pools. The Reymond Langton-designed floating palace, dubbed a cathedral of design in his own words, is a huge leap from a teenage migrant boy grinding away in a YMCA kitchen.

Vessels like Mike Lynch's stricken superyacht are "unsinkable", according to the chief executive of the firm which makes and sells them.

Giovanni Costantino, CEO of The Italian Sea Group, told Sky News there are no flaws with the design and construction of the Bayesian superyacht which capsized in a storm off the coast of Porticello, Sicily, on Monday.

Five bodies were found by divers on Wednesday - taking the number of confirmed dead to six.

The Italian Sea Group also owns the firm that built British tech tycoon Mr Lynch's Bayesian, and Mr Costantino said the vessels "are the safest in the most absolute sense".

News of the sinking left CEO of The Italian Sea Group Giovanni Costantino in ‘sadness on the one hand and disbelief on the other’.

"Being the manufacturer of Perini [boats], I know very well how the boats have always been designed and built," he said.

"And as Perini is a sailing ship... sailing ships are renowned to be the safest ever."

He said their structure and keel made them "unsinkable bodies".

Mr Costantino said news of the sinking "put me in a state of sadness on one side and of disbelief on the other".

"This incident sounds like an unbelievable story, both technically and as a fact," he said.

It is understood Italian prosecutors investigating the incident are continuing to hold interviews with the survivors.

On Tuesday they questioned the captain for more than two hours to help reconstruct what happened and provide useful technical details.

Four British inspectors are also in Porticello and have begun a preliminary assessment of events.

It is understood they will look at all relevant aspects of the incident, including the design, stability, and operation of the vessel. They will also examine the effects of the weather conditions experienced.

Twenty-two people were on board the vessel, 15 of whom were rescued - including Briton Charlotte Golunski and her one-year-old daughter Sofia.

Divers will resume efforts on Thursday morning to bring ashore a body they found earlier. One more person remains missing.

Rogers to become majority owner of MLSE after buying Bell's stake for $4.7B

Companies jointly bought 75 per cent stake in 2012.

Rogers Communications has bought Bell out of its stake in Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, the company that owns the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Raptors, for $4.7 billion.

Bell Canada Enterprises (BCE Inc.), which owns 37.5 per cent of MLSE, said in a media release Wednesday that the deal is expected to close in mid-2025.

The company said that it is selling its ownership stake to reduce its debt and "support its ongoing transformation" from a telecommunications firm to a tech company.

Rogers and Bell currently share the rights for the Leafs and the Raptors. Bell Media says it has reached a long-term, 20-year agreement with Rogers to renew the rights deal once it expires.

Pending approval from each league, Rogers says Bell will have access to content rights for "50 per cent of Maple Leafs regional games and 50 per cent of Toronto Raptors games for which MLSE controls the rights."

Rogers acquires Bell's stake in MLSE for $4.7B

In addition to the Leafs and Raptors, MLSE owns soccer club Toronto FC, the AHL's Toronto Marlies and the CFL's Toronto Argonauts.

Rogers and Bell closed a deal to jointly acquire a 75 per cent stake in MLSE in August 2012.

Bell CEO says deal brings 'financial flexibility'

Cary Kaplan, president of Cosmo Sports Entertainment in Toronto, called the Rogers and Bell co-ownership of MLSE extremely unusual, likening it to "Coke and Pepsi owning a team together."

While the buyout might not make any immediate difference to fans, "what it should mean is that Rogers will spend like the Yankees and Dodgers and Lakers," said Kaplan.

"Will Rogers step up and spend [on those teams] based on the financial capacity that that company has?"

Under the new deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals, Rogers will have a 75 per cent majority ownership of the company.

A spokesperson for the Competition Bureau confirmed to CBC News that the regulator would be reviewing the proposed transaction between Rogers and Bell.

MLSE chair Larry Tanenbaum owns a 20 per cent stake. He sold a five per cent share in the company to Canadian pension fund Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) in the summer of 2023.

Two people in motion walk by a building with Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment written across the entranceway.

"MLSE is one of the most prestigious sports and entertainment organizations in the world and we're proud to expand our ownership of these coveted sports teams," said Rogers CEO and president Tony Staffieri in a statement.

"Together with our sports and media assets, we plan to surface more value for shareholders long-term," said Staffieri. "This agreement also ensures long-term Canadian ownership and investment of these iconic teams."

  • BCE-Rogers bid for MLSE won't be reviewed

Rogers said the purchase will not affect its debt leverage "and financing will include private investors."

Mirko Bibic, the CEO and president of BCE Inc., said the company was proud of its time co-owning the sports teams.

He added that "today's announcement demonstrates that we are focused on creating the financial flexibility to support our ongoing transformation and core growth drivers."

Thousands injured, several dead after pagers explode across Lebanon: Health officials

Hezbollah blamed Israel for the "criminal aggression."

At least nine civilians are dead and over 2,750 were injured after pager devices owned by a large number of members in various Hezbollah units and institutions exploded on Tuesday, according to Lebanese officials and the group.

Hezbollah blamed Israel for the attack and vowed it would respond. The apparent attack comes amid rising tensions between Israel and Hezbollah.

"We hold the Israeli enemy fully responsible for this criminal aggression, which also targeted civilians and led to the deaths of a number of martyrs and the injury of a large number with various wounds," Hezbollah said in a statement. "This treacherous and criminal enemy will certainly receive his just punishment for this sinful aggression, whether he expects it or not."

The dead and injured included people who are not members of Hezbollah, such as a 10-year-old girl killed in the eastern village of Saraain, according to Hezbollah-owned Al-Ahed News. Hezbollah said 11 of its members were killed Tuesday, though, as is typical in its statements, did not specify how they died.

"These explosions, the causes of which are still unknown, led to the martyrdom of a girl and two brothers, and the injury of a large number of people with various injuries," Hezbollah said in a statement.

About 200 of the injuries are critical, meaning they needed surgery, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. Most of the injuries were to the face, hand or abdomen, officials said.

The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon, Mojtaba Amani, was among those who had one of the pagers and was injured due to an explosion Tuesday, according to Iranian state TV.

Amani said in a phone call after the incident that he was "feeling well and fully conscious," according to Iranian state TV.

At least 14 people were also injured in targeted attacks on Hezbollah members in Syria, according to the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates said it condemned the alleged Israeli attack and has begun preparing a complaint to the Security Council.

The Lebanese Council of Ministers collectively condemned "this criminal Israeli aggression, which constitutes a serious violation of Lebanese sovereignty and a crime by all standards," adding that "the government immediately began making all necessary contacts with the countries concerned and the United Nations to place it before its responsibilities regarding this continuing crime."

The United Nations special coordinator for Lebanon condemned the attack on Lebanon, calling it an "extremely concerning escalation in what is an already unacceptably volatile context," in a statement released by the U.N. Office of the Spokesperson for the Secretary General.

Hezbollah said it is conducting a "security and scientific investigation to determine the causes that led to these simultaneous explosions."

There have also been high-level contacts between the U.S. and Israel prompted by Tuesday's incidents in Lebanon, according to a U.S. official.

The U.S. said it had no role in the apparent attack on Hezbollah and no warning that it would happen, according to State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller. He also declined to offer an assessment on who could be behind it, saying only that the administration was "gathering information" on the incident.

Miller wouldn't say whether the administration had any information to doubt Hezbollah's claim that Israel was behind the explosions and only said that he didn't want to offer an assessment "one way or the other." The Israeli government has declined to comment on the matter.

The White House also said it was not aware the attack was going to happen ahead of time and would not speculate on who was behind it, according to press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.

This attack comes as U.S. diplomats have been working intensely to avoid escalation at Israel's northern border and amid fears that a full-blown war between the country and Hezbollah, which sits on a vast trove of missiles, could engulf the entire region. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is, coincidentally, on his way to the region and scheduled to land in Egypt on Tuesday night.

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant spoke again on Tuesday after speaking on Monday.

The latest conversation was intended "to touch base regarding ongoing tensions in the Middle East and the threats facing Israel, to include the Houthi missile attack over the weekend," according to Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder.

Ryder said America's focus was to ensure tensions in the region do not escalate.

"We strongly believe that the way to reduce tension along the Israel-Lebanon border is diplomacy," he said.

Iran and Hezbollah are likely to retaliate for the attack, but it could take them time to do so while they assess what happened, according to a U.S. official.

The Lebanese Ministry of Public Health has issued a statement Tuesday instructing all hospitals in various regions of Lebanon to be on maximum alert and raise their level of readiness to meet the rapid need for emergency health services.

The ministry noted that preliminary information indicates "the injuries were related to the explosion of wireless devices that were in the possession of the injured."

The ministry also asked all citizens who own pagers to throw them away immediately.

PHOTO: An ambulance arrives to American University of Beirut Medical Center as more than 1,000 people, including Hezbollah fighters and medics, were wounded when the pagers they use to communicate exploded across Lebanon, in Beirut, Sept. 17, 2024.

The Lebanese Red Cross said it has deployed "more than 30 ambulances" to help treat and evacuate "the wounded as a result of multiple explosions in the South, the Bekaa and the southern suburbs of Beirut," according to a post on its official X account.

The group also added "50 more ambulances and 300 Emergency Medical Technicians [are] on standby to assist in the evacuation of victims."

About 100 hospitals took in the wounded, the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health said. The agency said hospitals in Beirut and its southern suburb are full and began directing patients to ones outside the region.

Schools across Lebanon will be closed on Wednesday, Lebanese state media reported, citing the country's Minister of Education. Schools and offices closed include public and private schools, high schools, technical institutes, the Lebanese University and private higher education institutions, Lebanese state media reported.

Back in February, Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah had urged members to stop using mobile phones, saying, "I call for dispensing with cellphone devices at this stage, which are considered a deadly agent."
