Even with his braids, he has not experimented too many times. However, there are a couple of braids styles that he has tried out.

Each one of these Lil Yachty hairstyles has been absolute bangers, just like his music. He brings some interesting twists on his braids that make them stand apart from the rest.

In this article, we will break down these amazing styles and talk about them in detail. So, read till the end to learn about the best braids styles of Lil Yachty.

Lil Yachty Red Braids

Red braids with beads, lil yachty black braids, braids with bandana, french braids, braided pigtails, tied beads on the sides, loose top knot, multi-colored beads, frequently asked questions, final words, 9 exciting lil yachty braids styles you should try.

We have picked and compiled 9 of the most stunning braids styles of Lil Yachty for you. Go through this list to find out which style you vibe with the most.

Lil Yachty Red Braids

Red braids have been the signature Lil Yachty hairstyle throughout his career. Even before he became a rapper or even had braids, he used to dye his hair red as a young man.

This red color has been a constant companion in his journey. Maybe that’s why for a long period of time we haven’t seen him with any other hair color. However, if I were you, I wouldn’t necessarily dye my hair red and would choose another color that’s more meaningful to me.

As for braiding your hair, you can go for simple box braids. I’d also recommend the two strand twist or three strand twist styles if your hair is still too short for braids.

Red Braids With Beads

This one is the Lil Yachty braids style. Without a doubt, this is his most widely recognized hairstyle. It’s probably the one Lil Yachty hairstyle you were aware of even before you started reading this article.

You should dye your hair before you start braiding if you want to keep it colored for a long time. If it’s a short-term commitment, then you can first braid your hair and then use a temporary hair color spray.

Lil Yachty also keeps his braids thin and has a good number of them. So, you have to divide your hair into many sections. When you are done braiding all the sections, you can attach the beads. Lil Yachty usually prefers transparent beads.

Lil Yachty Black Braids

The Lil Yachty black braids style surprised a lot of people when he first appeared with it. They were just shocked that he had finally ditched the red color and went with his natural hair color.

He again surprised his fans when he attached diamond beads to his black braids. I am very much aware that it’s not a viable option for most people. You can just attach white beads if you want as that would create a cool contrast.

Lil Yachty also went for thicker braids this time. They were lesser in number as well. So, you won’t have to create that many sections for this one.

Braids With Bandana

Lil Yachty seems to be a huge fan of bandanas. Back when he had red braids and even now, he seems to wear a bandana pretty frequently. It actually makes sense because wearing a bandana is one of the easiest ways of making your braids more striking.

There are two ways he styles his braids with a bandana. One is when he wears it just over his braids. Then, the braids come out from underneath the bandana.

The other style is when he wears it higher and lets a couple of his braids stick out from the top of the bandana. He has tried beads with both of these styles as well.

French Braids

If you are looking for Lil Yachty without braids, this style is the closest thing you will find. This is unlike any other Lil Yachty braids styles and he pulls it off really well.

To get this style, you only need to have two long braids. First, you have to create a partition straight down the middle. Then, you need two braids at the front. Both braids will start from the partition, go sideways, go halfway around your head and then fall at the back.

I would also keep my front hairline tidy and crisp for this style. The rest of that hair that’s not braided should be slick and close to the scalp.

Braided Pigtails

This is a unique Lil Yachty hairstyle that he has come up with just by tying up his braids in a certain way. I can’t be entirely sure if he intentionally wanted to create a pigtail-inspired style. But, the style certainly looks like that.

You have to create a middle partition for this style as well. Then, you have to take all the braids from one side and tie them up on that side of your head. Do the same for the other side as well.

There will be a couple of loose braids at the front and the back of your head. Also, this style works better with beads because then it has more texture and character.

Tied Beads On The Sides

You have to attach beads to your braids for this style. Beads are necessary to create this distinct look. Also, make sure that there are 4-5 beads for each braid.

You have to create a middle partition to begin. Then, you have to create scalp braids that go sideways. Just like French braids, these braids will go from the partition to the opposite side of your head.

Finally, you have to take all your braids from one side and tie them together, kind of like the pigtail style. But, you have to tie them in a way so that only the beads are dangling from both sides.

Loose Top Knot

This Lil Yachty braids style is really easy to get. Despite being a simple style, it actually is quite impactful and can give you an attractive look.

It is basically a top knot style where you take all of your hair and tie them right at the top of your head. But, you would not tie all your braids for this style.

Few braids need to be free. Lil Yachty styles it in a way that there are loose braids on the sides and the back. If you want, you can let a few of them fall from the front to your forehead.

Multi Colored Beads

This is the last Lil Yachty braids style on my list. This one includes beads as well. For this style, it’s better if you have thin braids and there are a lot of them.

The more braids you have, the better you will look. Also, the braids need to be longer. At the end of each braid, you will attach multiple beads and they will be of different colors.

You can just create a middle partition and let these colorful beads hang down from both sides. Feel free to choose any color you want.

We have already mentioned how popular Lil Yachty braids are. So, it’s not a surprise that there are tons of questions that are frequently asked about his braids. We’ll answer a few of them in this section.

How to get Lil Yachty Braids?

Well, you have seen from the list that there are a couple of Lil Yachty braids styles you can choose from. But, most of them include box braids and attaching beads to your braids. Check out this video to have a basic idea of how to braid your hair and attach beads.

Why did Lil Yachty ditch his red braids?

Lil Yachty has stopped dying his braids red, which he was doing for a long time. He said in an interview that dying his hair frequently was actually damaging his hair a lot. That’s why he stopped doing it before his hair got severely and irreparably damaged.

Through this article, I have shown you the best braided hairstyles of Lil Yachty. It is now up to you to decide which styles you want to adopt.

When you have braids, you have to be extra careful about maintenance. You can’t avoid providing the care that your braids need. I have a few suggestions that you can follow.

You must avoid making your braids too tight. If your braids are too tight, that can seriously damage your hair and might even cause permanent hair loss.

You also have to regularly hydrate and moisturize your scalp. Oiling your scalp is also a very positive practice. However, whatever moisturizer or oil you are using, make sure that those suit your hair and scalp.

Finally, sleep on a silk or satin surface. Also, wear a durag while sleeping to keep your braids fresh. Just follow these recommendations and rock your Lil Yachty inspired braids with confidence.

“Honestly, it was hard to maintain,” he said in an interview with Danny Schwartz.

“The bleach was literally killing my hair. My hair was just dying. It’s growing now. That’s all. It’s just hair. I just kept it red because I loved it. But it kept falling out. It never would grow.”

How to Maintain your Braids!

Having braids installed is a great feeling as it gives you a new look and confidence. To ensure you maximise your hairs lifeline it’s imperative the proper care and maintenance is applied to your braids. We have provided some tips below to ensure that they stay neat, tidy and clean.

Make sure Braids aren’t too tight

If you experience the pain of tight braids, this is your body informing you they need to be loosened or redone. Not only do tight braids damage your hair but you increase your chances of getting braid bumps and infected follicles which we want to avoid. This could lead to temporary or permanent hair loss, something we want to avoid of course!

Moisturize your scalp

We like to explain it like this, your scalp is an extension of your skin, and therefore it requires hydration and care. A good moisturizing routine helps it keep your hair bouncy, defined and healthy, but most important not dry. Find one best suited for your hair type.

Oil your Scalp

We mostly forget to apply oil on our scalp as were too busy focusing on the ends and length, yet it’s our scalp that hair grows from, therefore an oil routine is super important and non-negotiable.

Protect your hair while sleeping with a Durag

The main purpose of Du-rags and head wraps is to prevent stray hairs from becoming loose or tangled which creates the messy look. Protecting your hair at night keeps it in check.

Ensure you take your Hair out every 6 Weeks

As we mentioned before you’re going to have to ensure you let your hair breathe, then washed and it’s been advised for years that the 6 week mark is the sweet spot.

This is nothing short of good hygiene! Your hair has been exposed to multiple layers of dirt and environmental factors which requires up keep! Wash days are your best friend and it will repay you which shiny, clean hair.

FROM BRAIDS, TO STREETWEAR, TO DESIGNER BRANDS: THIS IS THE EVOLUTION OF LIL YACHTY’S STYLE

lil yachty two braids

Lil Yachty’s direction of fashion has widely improved over the course of his music career, and arguably he is now considered one of rap’s best dressed.

Perhaps what makes Yachty’s style so exclusive in comparison to his competitors is that he’s got steez. Since day one, the artist refused to use a stylist and has solely accumulated a mass collection of designer, vintage and streetwear attire to complete his effortless style. He finishes off his looks with an ensemble of unique accessories: jewellery, sneakers, beads & coloured braids.

While in high school, Yachty felt inspired by the ’90s hip-hop duo Kris Kross to start colouring, braiding and adding beads to his hair. His new and eccentric hairstyle motivated the artist to simultaneously take risks and reach new limits by broadening his wardrobe.

After graduation, the Georgia native relocated to New York City to spend the summer observing and studying the city’s preexisting streetwear community. Yachty established close relationships with top-tier streetwear legends like Bloody Dior, Luka Sabbat & Bloody Osiris, who all encouraged him to develop a passion for streetwear and vintage thrift. Yachty knew that if his fashionable side stood out, so would his music.

In 2015, Lil’ Boat’s SoundCloud single ‘One Night’ generated mass attention for its melodic sounds, unique vocals and the help of streetwear legend and influencer, Ian Conner.

While at LAX, Yachty was randomly approached by Conner who asked if he could purchase the Supreme jacket Yachty was wearing. Yachty refused to sell an item of such value to him, although the two remained conversing and established a deep connection off their shared love for fashion and culture.

Conner had already established himself a large social media following and utilized it to promote his new friend’s music. He couldn’t keep his mouth shut about his new profound love for Yachty’s sound.

At the time Conner was the creative consultant for Yeezy, and asked Ye if Yachty could walk in the brand’s third season fashion show. Ye agreed, and this once in a lifetime opportunity allowed for Yachty’s name to further rise within the fashion and rap community.

This trend has continued to grow, and many rappers still consider braids to be an essential part of their style. With a variety of options in braid styles to choose from, one can always find a style that suits their personality.

Q2. Can I style my hair in braids like Snoop Dogg?

Styling hair in braids like Snoop Dogg’s can be achieved with the right tools, products, and a little bit of practice. Depending on the length of one’s hair, the style can be applied in different ways. However, it’s essential to take hair type into consideration when styling braids. Protective styling can be beneficial to hair growth, and braids offer an excellent option for achieving that.

Q3. What is the maximum duration for wearing braids?

The maximum duration for wearing braids varies from person to person. It depends on how fast the hair grows and scalp sensitivity . Some individuals wear braids for months, while others only keep them for a few weeks. Prolonged wearing of braids can lead to hair damage or breakage, especially if they’re not well-maintained. To prevent this, it is essential to remove braids periodically and allow the hair to rest before installing a new set.

Braids have been known to promote hair growth, as they are a form of protective styling. The hip-hop culture is an embodiment of several components and facets coming together to create a unique culture that represents a set of people. Of all these components and facets, fashion remains an integral part of it.

Also, unarguably, although hip-hop synthesises several artistic, musical and cultural intricacies and nuances, it is still a fact that hip-hop (by virtue of its history and current practises) was birthed by black culture and still remains black culture.

As complex, vast, and dynamic as black culture is, historically, we can trace back the origin of braids to Africa and the black race.

Black American history also reminds us of how braids were frequently used by black slaves on the plantation to relay messages between themselves, plan, signal, and map out escape routes, and even used to keep gold and seeds to help them survive the tough life after they would run away from their masters.

That being said, it is very unsurprising (even necessary) that braids have found their way not just into hip-hop/rap but also into pop culture. As a way of identifying with their ancestral roots and history as a people, a lot of black and even white rappers have decided to stick with braids.

This is not an article on African or African-American fashion or a historical article on slavery, rather, this is a simple article that seeks to bring to you the 20 most popular rappers with braids.

If you are a fan of this hairstyle, regardless of the colour of your skin, it just makes sense that you know these rappers who also love what you love.

Even if you are not a fan of braids, it still makes sense that you know these rappers, the same way you know rappers with nose rings, without tattoos, with tattoos, etc. It doesn’t exactly have to hold any significance—-just know these rappers.

The Manual: Can you give us the backstory on your signature red braids?

LY: In grade, I braided my hair because I wanted to look like Kris Kross , this old rap hip-hop group that had braids with colorful rubber bands. My hair was short, so I did two strand twists. And then it grew, and I just wore braids, just braids. And then they grew real long. They were black at the time. When I got a job offer at McDonald’s my mom wanted me to be so presentable, so she made me cut my hair. So that was real sad. I cut my hair. And then she saw I was so sad because my hair was the only thing keeping me different, so then she was like well why don’t you dye it red? So I dyed it red, and it’s been red ever since eleventh grade.

TM: How do you take care of it?

LY:  Shit, I don’t. My shit fell out. It grew back. But, nah, I’m on the road a lot. The bleaching and the heat takes a toll on my hair. So, I try to do what I can. But honestly, I don’t do what I should do. It’s sad but it’s true. When I get braided I get it washed, deep conditioned, I put oils in it and all that good stuff. I get it braided like once a week if I can get to a stylist.

TM: Who braids it? Do you have a go-to stylist?

LY:  I go to the same lady at home. I’ve been going to her since high school.

TM: There’s a rumor going around the internet that your braids are insured?

“You gotta stay fresh. When you smell good, you feel good. When you look good, you feel good.”

LY:  No, that’s not true, they fell out before and no one paid me for it.

TM: Do you shave? And how often?

LY:  My face, as soon as I see an inch of hair . I try to keep a baby face. My facial hair grows, I just try to keep it low.

TM: Do you have a favorite shaving product?

LY:  I don’t shave myself. I have a barber. He doesn’t actually shave it. He uses clippers .

TM: Do you use moisturizer on your face?

LY:  Yeah, I like to use moisturizer . I don’t travel with any, and I’ve been kind of iffy with hotel lotion. So, I don’t do it much because I’m never really home. But I like to make my skin look very smooth and chocolatey.

TM: What about your tattoos? How do you take care of them?

LY:  I’m gonna come clean. I probably put something on there one time. You’re making me feel bad.

TM: Sorry! Let’s make you feel good. How does AXE Gold give you dating confidence?

LY:  Smelling good is key important. Have you ever been on a date and someone just didn’t smell too good? It’s not the best, right? It’s like a deal breaker, especially on the first date. You gotta stay fresh. When you smell good, you feel good. When you look good, you feel good. All these key elements add up to making someone feel gold. When you feel gold, you feel good. Then you pretty much are good and can’t anybody say otherwise.

TM: Tell me about your personal style?

LY:  I have my own style. I like throwback looks a lot. I like the 90’s. I like colors and baggy jeans. I like what I like.

TM: What is your favorite city to shop

LY:  LA. But I haven’t been to Japan yet. I can’t wait to go.

In not-so-breaking news, physical activity can do the body good. There's seemingly endless research on how logging a good sweat session—or even a brisk walk—can improve numerous bodily functions, including the health of our organs like the lungs and heart. Yet, sweat, debris, bacteria, and even the sun exposure we get while breaking a sweat can have some not-so-great effects on our largest organ: the skin.

Does that mean you should throw in the towel and ditch your workout routine? No, but you may want to use a towel during a pre and post-workout skincare regimen. While you likely know all about the need to stretch before and after exercising to warm up and cool down muscles, what you do regarding skincare before or after workout sessions can make a big difference.

Collagen protein powder and whey protein might look the same from their packaging, but each of these workout supplements differs in their use and makeup. Whey protein powder has been used by fitness enthusiasts for decades, offering a convenient way to achieve protein macro goals. But powdered collagen supplements have only recently become a fitness trend -- but is it a fad? In this guide, we'll break down everything you need to know about choosing collagen protein vs whey and how to determine which is best for your fitness goals. What is collagen? Collagen is an essential protein that plays many critical roles in our bodies such as providing structure and support for our bones, muscles, ligaments, connective tissues, and more. This important protein makes up about 30% of your body's total protein but declines naturally with age. Collagen peptide products are made from animal tissues (cow) that are boiled and dehydrated to create a powdered supplement. Once collagen begins gelatin and is made into a powder, it is packaged as a flavorless supplement you can find in your local health food or vitamin store. kasarp studio / Shutterstock What is whey protein?

Whey protein is another product found in powdered supplement form. This protein supplement is made from whey, a byproduct liquid that separates milk when cheese is made. During the cheese-making process, milk fat coagulates and leaves behind whey, which is then turned into a powdered form. This is a complete protein that contains all nine essential amino acids. Our bodies cannot produce essential amino acids on their own; which means we must consume them in our diet. Collagen protein vs. whey protein

Hiking, camping, and exploring the great outdoors give you a much-needed perspective change on just about all of life's greatest mysteries. It's like pushing the reset button on our human operating systems. When you return to "the real world," you're often completely refreshed and performing optimally across all facets of your life. Among other things, it shows you just how few things you need to exist in blissful harmony with nature.

Out there in the woods, you don't need much aside from the best camping tent, a good sleeping bag, and cooking gear to prep your favorite camping meals. But just because you pack light doesn't mean you have to skimp on the toiletries. It's an essential step that many people forget, but you want a few items to clean yourself up after an all-day hike or fishing adventure.

Ludovic Hunter-Tilney

Roula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.

Lil Yachty — the Atlanta rapper who came to fame with what he called “bubblegum trap”, a brightly hued version of the southern rap genre — used to double as an inadvertent investment aid. Whenever he released an album or mixtape, the S&P 500 would plummet. The wilder fringes of financial analysis took note. “Market is doomed, new Lil Yachty album just dropped,” a Reddit thread warned last year when Let’s Start Here came out.

But Yachty’s latest bucked the trend. The S&P 500 has thrived since its arrival. And Yachty’s reputation has climbed too. Where once he was viewed as something of a novelty act, all red braided hair and hyper-jaunty tunes, now terms such as “ambitious left-turn” and “spectacular” have been turning up in notices. An unexpected stylistic swerve was the reason why — for Let’s Start Here is Lil Yachty’s psychedelic rock album.

The rapper, real name Miles Parks McCollum, opened his Wembley show lining up alongside an all-women backing band. Hallucinatory visuals with magic mushrooms and LSD imagery unfolded on a screen behind them. Such trippiness isn’t unusual in hip-hop: there have been a number of lysergically influenced acid-rap records over the years, including mainstream hits such as Travis Scott’s Astroworld . But Yachty’s plunge into psych-rock is singular. Among the inspirations is Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon , a “whoa” moment for the rapper when he first heard it. Another is Tame Impala.

Fairly smooth and laid-back on record, his brand of psychedelia acquired a more frantic character live. Forceful drumming and guitar action turned songs into battering rams at the doors of perception. Two backing singers did wordless vocal runs like gale-force versions of Floyd’s “The Great Gig in the Sky”. Meanwhile Yachty sang with a gruff holler, which was given a fluting quality by audio processing.

A half-empty venue suggested that not all his fans have signed up for the ride. However, those present made up for the shortfall with a boisterous display of energy. They were rewarded with a long section of straight-up rap tracks featuring his Concrete Boys crew, a quartet of MCs. Booming snare drums and skittering hi-hats rang out. The catchy sound of his early “bubblegum trap” style was absent: Yachty has disavowed the label (and also ditched his red braids).

Made gruffer by what he called “a battle with a spring allergy”, his voice suited the no-nonsense beats. Moshpits opened up in the audience. Then it was back to rock songs with his band, brashly loud affairs in which Yachty cried “Can you feel it?” amid crashing drums and riffs and fusillades of flashing lights. It was messy and unsubtle, but also entertaining and fully committed. The gimmicky rapper of old is now a buy.

Lil Yachty Has All-Time Crash Out Session Over Karrahbooo & ‘A Safe Place’ Co-Host Mitch

In case you were living under a rock or just woke up from coma, last night Lil Yachty had a public meltdown on Instagram Live over his former artist Karrahbooo and his podcast co-host and friend Mitch.

First, a clip of his podcast A Safe Place went around of him, Mitch, and Key Glock having a discussion about trying to understand why some want what others have when things got awkward. “Some people gotta eat, gotta feed they family, however the case may be,” Yachty said. “That’s when the militant part comes into play because sometimes, unfortunately, don’t wanna put in work and just want what you have. And that’s a whole different conversation because I ain’t been rich forever.” Adding, “I done been broke before, so who am I to tell this n—a not to go do what you gotta do.

Mitch disagreed and said you can give them different advice.” However, Yachty then replied, “Like what? You ain’t never had a job. What you gonna tell a n—a to get a job?” The Atlanta rapper then brought up what Mitch would be doing with his life if Yachty wasn’t around and all Key Glock could do was sit there in silence.

Naturally, Rap Twitter had a field day with said clip and criticized Yachty for being a bad friend. Boat addressed the viral clip during his IG Live session and stated he started the podcast to help his friend and said he was going to end it because Mitch wouldn’t defend him on social media. “I aint want to do no motherf—king podcast, n—a, I’m a f—king rapper.”

Lil Yachty goes off on his bestfriend and producer Mitch and cancels their podcast together 'A Safe Place' on IG live, for not clearing up a viral clip "I aint want to do no motherf*cking podcast n*gga, Im a f*cking rapper

Mitch then took to X to clear the air, suggesting him and Yachty joke around and are often brutally honest with each other.

As for Karrahbooo, a waitress at Red Lobster set fire to this whole night. X user @C_Staxxz claimed the former Concrete Boy member walked into the restaurant chain to buy some Cheddar Bay Biscuits said she was kicked out of the group after being asked why she left. The user also claimed Karrahbooo told her that “they were really mean to her and bullying her a lot.”

A fan who met KARRAHBOOO claims she said she was "kicked out" of Concrete Boys and bullied within the group pic.twitter.com/NDmuYN467Q — Kurrco (@Kurrco) August 22, 2024

Those two now-deleted tweets bothered Yachty so much, he decided to hop on Live and finally address the situation. He responded by saying, “Tell people how you verbally abuse people. Don’t get on here to make it seem like niggas kicked you out
bullying you? Bro, go ‘head and tell people how you talk to people
You talk to people like they’re small, like they’re beneath you.”

He then claimed that he wrote all of her verses and styled her and the other members of the Concrete Boys. “I wrote every f—king verse you’ve done,” he said. “I dressed you. I dressed all five of y’all n—as, bro. I dressed five n—as every time we stepped out the house. I put an outfit on everybody. I put eight carat earrings in everybody ear. I put three chains on all y’all neck.”

Adding, “We bought a Cartier watch. I gave you that chrome Rolex, bro. You was waiting tables
What are we talking about, n—a? I changed your motherf—king life and you are here lying, talking about some, ‘We bully you’
That sh—t got me f—ked up, bro. You got me f—ked up, bro. You disrespectful, bro. You talk to people crazy. You tell people that they are nothing. You tell people you’re going to spit on them. You tell people they poor and you talk to my f—king label crazy. You claim I was stealing money from you. Stealing money from you how? You ain’t made no money.”

He continued, “This the problem with you new artists. Y’all get poppin’ online and then you become more popular than your actual music. You $900,000 in the whole and I got every f—king receipt.” Boat then brought up her viral On the Radar freestyle and said he was trying to make her pop off and it worked. “I slowed the beat down, I put 808s specifically on your verse so when it got to your part and the beat dropped, everyone would be like, ‘This girl is the craziest one.’”

For whatever reason, Boat finds himself in these situations and even went as far as to claim he was going to stop talking on the Internet . “I’m not doing no more talkin’,” Yachty said on Instagram Live last month. “I don’t got s—t else to say. I’m gone off this internet s—t. I think I’m gone for the rest of the year. I swear to God. I ain’t got s—t else to say.

Karrahbooo has yet to respond.

All Eyez On Memes: Lil Yachty's Fruit Punch Blowout Gets Compared To Chucky, Blanka & More

Lil Yachty can’t catch a break. Even though the QC artist had a strong 2016 between his breakout  Lil Boat mixtape and being featured on D.R.A.M.’s platinum-selling/Grammy-nominated hit single “ Broccoli ,” it’s been open season on the “1 Night” rapper all year, with recent spats flaring up between him and Soulja Boy and then  Funk Master Flex .

The Atlanta native did redeem himself in the eyes of one of his biggest critics though, the  once-stern Ebro , who began to show some respect after  Yachty spoke with him on his Beats1 show  and dropped a freestyle to Craig Mack’s “Flava In Ya Ear” instrumental.

Just when we thought Yachty might stay out of the headlines for the last two weeks of 2016, he pops up again by trading in his crimson-beaded braids for short locks. And yes, social media showed no mercy.

Check out some of the best memes inspired by The Sailing Team captain’s new look.

Still though, the ridicule over his hair isn’t really anything new.

We Hung Out and Talked Nail Polish With Lil Yachty

Lil Yachty

When it comes to grooming, Lil Yachty is probably best known for his signature beaded braids, but on a recent Friday afternoon, it was tough to look away from his nails: tiger stripes on his fingers and royal blue swirls on his toes. The 23-year-old rapper has been getting clear-polish manicures for years, but with the recent launch of his own brand, Crete, he’s in the nail polish business—and looked like it.

We met at his new five-bedroom house on a lake outside Atlanta, and he sauntered past a crystal acrylic piano, a life-size statue of Yoda, and a very cute but not completely house-trained dog named Carti to situate himself on a custom green, yellow, and purple Togo sofa. It was 3 p.m., and he had been awake for only about an hour—but that’s not to say he didn’t have a packed day planned. He had a Zoom in an hour. At 5 p.m., he was supposed to be an hour away, at Icebox, the jewelry store that’s a favorite of the city’s top music industry talent—Migos, Lil Baby—to get his sister a watch as a high school graduation gift. That ceremony was to begin at 7. At some point among all of this, he was meant to have a design meeting about the two neighboring lake houses he bought last year on impulse. “I don’t know what I want sometimes. I just kind of live,” he said, noting that he wasn’t halfway through his last lease before he decided to move into the current spot. “When I got [this house], I was like, Well, my neighbors are too close—I want that house too . So that’s where my friends live.”

He says it was a similar sort of whim, at around the same time, that made him think about getting into the world of beauty and grooming, with Crete. And so far, his instincts seem to be accurate: The brand launched the last week of May, and the line sold out before the end of the day. There’s nothing Greek about it—it’s a play on the word concrete , which Yachty often uses to refer to his team. (“The whole concrete thing is basically being solid,” he says.) Crete launched online with three shades—black, white, and gray (or, rather, to extend the construction theme, “asphalt,” “concrete,” and “sheetrock”). It’s aimed at everyone, including guys new to wearing nail polish, and rather than packaged in standard bottles with brushes, it comes as an easy-to-use pen that dispenses small doses of quick-drying polish with a simple click.

Lil Yachty says his own experience with nail polish began when A$AP Rocky inspired him to start getting professional buffs and clear polish. “I started doing it about three or four years ago,” he said. “I got compliments instantly. I felt clean. My nails weren’t dirty and nasty. I felt more mature.” During the pandemic, he expanded his horizons, after a nail tech named Rosa Yee DM’d him a manicure offer. Their first collaboration featured clear polish with black designs: the words LIVE FAST on Yachty’s thumbs, an 8 ball, a cross, the year Yachty was born (’97), and the word TOES spread across four of his toenails. It got 1.6 million likes on TikTok.

This content can also be viewed on the site it originates from.

Since then, their designs have gotten more ambitious and colorful. For Christmas, the rapper’s fingernails had a holiday theme: Santa Claus, a reindeer, the Grinch. These days, Yee sends him ideas ahead of time, and pays him a visit every other Sunday. (Crete is also selling nail stickers based on the viral TikTok designs.)

Yachty says if it were up to him, he would’ve launched Crete with bolder colors, but the initial release was meant to be as welcoming as possible for people who are new to the nail polish program. “Let’s just say, I felt as if a lot of men may have wanted to do it—but it felt too feminine,” he said. But it seems those worries were short-lived: A rapper with a nail polish line feels perfectly natural in 2021, and in about a month, he will release a trio of colors called “Heatwave”: bright red, orange, and yellow.

Lil Yachty & KARRAHBOOO Won't Stop Trading Shots On Social Media

Lil Yachty KARRAHBOOO Beef Instagram Response Hip Hop News

The Concrete Boys collective is going through a pretty nasty crash-out right now thanks to group members Lil Yachty and KARRAHBOOO. What started as the latter's sudden exit from the group under seemingly neutral circumstances devolved into both rappers accusing each other of toxic behavior . While this impacts the group as a whole, it really seems to be a battle between these two players alone at press time. Hopefully it resolves and things don't spiral out even further. But it seems like they won't reconcile anytime soon, as they're still going back and forth at each other after the Let's Start Here. artist wrote the following on his Instagram Story recently: "don't throw rocks and hide your hand."

"i'll never forget this feeling," KARRAHBOOO responded to Lil Yachty via an IG Story rant. "This chapter of my life, i'll never be the same , i'll never forget who wasn't there for me. I done chomped people out/spent my last/slapped folks 4 n***as, i ride every time naturally but that's just how i am. Nobody owe me s**t tbh im just taking a mental note.

KARRAHBOOO Once Again Claps Back At Lil Yachty

"i can't even look at most people da same way, to know the truth and watch a grown man with 12 million followers overly lie on my name and publicly bully me for literally no reason at all while i silently been conquering all da s**t n***as been throwing at me this whole time behind close doors," KARRAHBOOO's rant continued. "ill never ignore the signs again and i will never stop no matter how much they hate me.

"i never threw rocks and u have my number u big grown b^itch leave me alone literally @lilyachty," she concluded. "i never said nothing about s**t and i still ain't said nothing bout what's really going on. i don't want no beef wit you industry people. just move on wit ur life stop tryna bring me down when i stay out the way. im done talking u got it yo character gone speak for itself." Hopefully Lil Yachty and KARRAHBOOO settle this in private and move on with their careers without this headache.
