I rented the boat for a birthday celebration. We had a wonderful time. We brought pizza, drinks, and music and cruised Lake Ontario. Our pizza delivery was running a bit late, and Peter was so relaxed about it. The only downside is that it was tight for the six of us. The birthday boy is big, and he found the seating uncomfortable. He enjoyed the trip, and this completely falls on me. I knew it would be close quarters going on the boat, but Peter was the only person who enthusiastically answered me out of approx. 25 requests. How could we not go on his boat? I can't say enough good things about Peter and his beautiful sailboat. The boat is clean and beautifully maintained. He involved us in the sailing, and we really enjoyed the process. You won't do better if you want to charter a sailboat for a few people. Peter is flexible and very reasonable. It is a memory we will all cherish. Thank you, Peter. I'm sure we will see you again.

I recently had the pleasure of sailing with Captain Peter; I can’t recommend him highly enough. From the moment we set sail to the end of our journey, Peter’s kindness and expertise were evident. His deep knowledge of sailing and the local waters made the trip both enjoyable and educational. His friendly demeanor and attentiveness ensured a fantastic experience for everyone on board. If you’re looking for a top-notch captain who combines skill with genuine care for his passengers, Peter is the perfect choice.

David was an awesome captain and made my best friend’s bachelorette so much fun! He was the best captain and I definitely recommend him! His boat is so big and perfect for floating around!

We booked the restless for our engagement photoshoot and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Peter was so kind and accommodating throughout the whole experience. The boat is beautiful and very clean. We would definitely book again with Peter as this was very enjoyable!!

Lee made it an interactive experience for us (family of 4 with two young kids). He was a wonderful host who truly enjoys what he does. My husband wanted to learn, and he shared lots of information making it a cool bday gift for hubby.

Recent trends in the industry have opened the door for many unqualified individuals to purchase boats and offer charter services to the unsuspecting public. It’s easy to create a website and even easier to just list a boat on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, Kijiji, Getmyboat, Boat Setter and many others.

Unfortunately, many of these operators are NOT licensed, insured or qualified to accept your trust on the water. In order to be licensed and insured a number of items MUST be in place. Listed are just a few.

• The operator must be licensed by Transport Canada with a commercial license known as either: – Limited Master under 60tonne. – Small Vessel Operators Permit (SVOP).
• The name of the vessel must be visible on the stern (back) or the registration number beginning with the letter “C” must be visible on the side of the vessel near the front. Boats with a registration number beginning with “ON” are not licensed for passengers.
• If the vessel is under 12m (40’) it should participate in the Transport Canada Small Vessel Compliance Program and display a “Blue Decal” and have corresponding certificate.
• If the vessel is over 12m (40’) or carries more than 12 passengers, it MUST BE INSPECTED by Transport Canada and have an inspection certificate on board.
• All vessels must have commercial liability insurance and coverage specifically for the number of passengers approved to be carried on board.
• The vessel must comply with commercial safety requirements beyond recreational standards. Many of these illegal operators do not have the proper training, carry proper safety equipment, nor do their recreational boats meet the design/construction requirements of a commercial, passenger carrying vessel. These illegal operators try to stay under the radar of Police/OPP/RCMP/Transport Canada by:
• hiding the name of their vessel by hanging items over the stern
• not letting you know where they will have you board until just before the start of your charter.
• pick you up at a public park (where docking is not permitted).
• suggest to you that you are friends of the owner/operator out for a ride and not a paying customer.
• allow you to drink alcohol while the boat is underway (illegal-same as a car) but tell you to hide your bottles etc.
• insist on a cash transaction or part of it as a way of defrauding the internet listing company.

Over the last few years there have been a number of deaths and even more accidents resulting from these types of operators. Be safe and know who you are getting on a boat with. All licensed operators should willingly display their credentials, and most are members of the Passenger & Commercial Vessel Association (PCVA).

Toronto Harbour Nautical Centre (formerly Harbourfront Centre Sailing & Powerboating) provides affordable and accessible boating for all – from beginners to offshore and much more! We offer a wide selection of sailing and powerboating courses, membership, boat rentals, corporate events and Junior Sail Camps.  

We are conveniently located on Queen’s Quay West, immediately south of the CN Tower and easily accessible from Downtown Toronto by foot, bicycle or car. Public parking is available and the TTC stops right outside our door.

Do you rent boats? 

• Yes, we rent sailboats and powerboats.  

What other services do you provide?

• Other than boat rentals, we also teach sailing and powerboating courses, navigation, boat licensing courses and International Yacht Training (IYT), Bareboat Skipper (BBS) and International Certificate of Competency (ICC) courses.  
• We are a Sail Membership club, offering boat access with no rental fees, race nights, social sails and learning clinics and seminars.  
• We also offer Corporate Events for team sailing sessions with no prior experience necessary for participants.  
• We have Sailing Camps programs for children 6 to 16 years.  

What boats are available for rent ?  

• Paradise F13s and Lunds are ideal for first time and beginner boaters. No experience is required to rent these boats.
• Larger powerboats, such as our pontoon boats and RIBs, can accommodate more people and go further and faster, but experience is required to rent these boats. 
• We have a number of smaller keelboats, such as our Harbour 20s and J24s, that can be rented provided you have sufficient experience.
• We also have a variety of dinghies, including our monohull RS Zests and Fevas, as well as our catamaran Hobie T2 and Getaway. Experience is also required for these boats.

How do I reserve a boat?  

• You can reserve a boat by calling us at (416) 203-3000 or emailing [email protected] or visiting us in our office at 275 Queens Quay West. To hold a reservation, we require a 25% deposit if you are making the reservation more than 30 days before your booking and 100% of the payment if within 30 days of your booking.  
• You can make a reservation during our hours of operation; however, we do recommend that you call a few days before your intended booking time to ensure that your desired time and boat is available. 
• If your intended boat requires experience, please submit a Boating Resume on our website first. Once our staff review your resume, you will receive an email with more information about making a booking.

What do you need to rent a boat ?  

• In order to rent our Paradise F13s and Lunds, you need to be 21 years old or over with a valid G class driver’s license OR 18 years old with a Pleasure Craft Operators Card (boating license).
• For the rest of our fleet, you will need to fill out a Boating Resume , so we know how much boating experience you have. Once your resume has been reviewed, you will be contacted with information about anything else that may be required for your rental.
• For all boats, we will provide all required temporary licensing. You will need to provide a credit card for a damage deposit, which is returned to you at the end of your rental. You are also required to have a cellphone on the boat with you so we can reach you while you are out on the water.

 What does “experience necessary” mean?  

• Having previously taken a course.
• Owning your own boat.
• Previous rental history with us or another provider.
• Prior practical experience on boats of an equivalent type and size.
• You must fill out the Boating Resume , which asks you to outline what kind of experience you have with boats and must be approved by our management before you are permitted to take out any of our sailboats or larger powerboats. This is for your safety and the protection of our boats and equipment. 

If I have no experience, which boats can I take out?  

• If you have no experience, you are eligible to rent two of our powerboats, the Paradise F13 two-seater powerboats and the Lund Fury four to five-seater powerboats. All you need to rent one of these powerboats is a valid G Driver’s License and be 21+ years old, or a Pleasure Craft Operators Card and be 18+ years old. These boats are allowed within the inner harbour only..
• For all keelboats and larger powerboats, you also can hire a skipper/instructor for an additional fee. We require that you make the reservation at least seven days before your desired booking. Please call us at (416) 203-3000 for any cost inquiries.

How do I get boating experience?  

• You can take a course recognized by Sail Canada, which we offer for both sailing and powerboating. 

What kinds of courses do you have?  

• We offer a variety of courses for both sailing and powerboating. We offer courses in dinghy sailing, keelboat sailing, powerboating, as well as ‘dry dock’ theory courses like the Toronto Harbour License, VHF Radio License, International Yacht Master Training, and Navigation courses.

Can children take your courses?  

• We encourage children aged 6-16 to attend our sailing summer camp to gain experience on the water. 
• Children of any age may attempt the PCOC exam, however they must be 14 to take the Toronto Harbour License course and 16 to take the VHF-DSC Radio License course. 
• Our introductory courses are available to any students 16 or older, and for children aged 14-15 if accompanied by an adult. 
•  All dinghy courses are available to students 16 or older, and 15-year-olds that have successfully completed the Harbourfront Centre Camps Sailing CIT program. 
• All other cruising, powerboating, and navigation courses can be taken by any person 18 and older, or those aged 16-17 if accompanied by an adult.  
• Note: if you are booking a course for yourself and a child that requires accompaniment, please ensure that you purchase two registrations.  

How fast do your boats go ?  

• Our Paradise F13s and Lunds are required to stay within the Inner Harbour which has a speed limit of 6mph, or approximately 11km/hr. The speed of these boats is limited in accordance with these speed limits.  
• Our powerboats that require more experience can reach faster speeds. The skipper of these boats will be required to judge their speed appropriately.   

Which boats am I responsible for refueling ?  

• You are not responsible for refueling any of our boats. Fuel is included in the price for our small powerboats (Paradise F13s, Lunds and RIBS) and all sailboats. A flat fee will be paid at the time of your booking for larger powerboats.  

Where are you allowed to go?  

• All dinghy sailboats, Paradise F13s, Lunds, and RIBs are restricted to the Inner Harbour.  
• All keel sailboats and larger powerboats are permitted to go in both the Inner and Outer Harbour. Please be aware that in the case of inclement weather, these boats may be restricted to the Inner Harbour. Any restrictions will be clearly communicated at the time of your rental.  
• Our powerboats are welcome to travel through the Toronto Islands, and you will be given a map to take with you on the boat that details where you can and cannot go.  
• No boats are permitted in the Toronto Island Airport zone and are subject to a $10,000 fine if caught in the area. 

What is the difference between a keelboat and a dinghy sailboat ?  

• Keelboats have a fixed keel at the bottom of the boat. This keeps the boat upright. They also have an engine on the back. Keelboats can vary in size from two people and up.  
• Dinghies do not have a fixed keel, and therefore can capsize. You need to be able to right the boat. Dinghies do not have an engine. They are usually for 1–3 people.  

How do I become a member?  

• You must fill out a Boating Resume to provide us with the details of your experience to ensure you are qualified to use our boats. Please select either J24 or Harbour 20 if you are interested in a keelboat membership; or Hobie Cat T2 or RS Zest if you are interested in a dinghy membership.
• Once your Boating Resume has been reviewed by our staff, please phone our office at (416) 203 3000, email [email protected] or visit us at 275 Queens Quay West to join as a member.
• Students who complete our Sail Canada Basic Cruising, Sail Canada Intermediate Cruising, Independent Dinghy Sailing, or CANSail 3 courses are eligible for discounts on Membership.  

Where are you located?  

• We are located at 275 Queens Quay West, at the corner of Queens Quay and Rees Street, south of the CN Tower and a block west of Harbourfront Centre at 235 Queens Quay West. 

Is there parking available?  

• The P3 Rees Street Lot is a street-level car park located on the north side of Queens Quay West, just west of Rees Street, right across from our location.

When does Boating Season begin and end?  

• We are open for operations on Victoria Day weekend in May and the season runs until Thanksgiving weekend in October.   

I took my Basic Cruising exam and have not yet received my seal. When can I expect it?

• It takes approximately 4–6 weeks for seals to be processed. If you have not received your seal and it has been longer the expected 4–6 weeks since you wrote your exam, please contact our office at (416) 203-3000 or email [email protected] .

Toronto Harbour Nautical Centre is an internationally recognized Sail Canada ‘Centre of Excellence in Training’ Facility, with courses that provide comprehensive theory, and practical on-water experience.

Boat Charters/Rentals

We have a fleet of sailboats, powerboats and yachts to suit your needs. We offer bareboat rental opportunities to the public with recognized credentials or equivalent boating experience. Our smaller powerboats are a great opportunity for new boaters to try out the world of boating with proper safety training provided by our knowledgeable staff.

Members receive a 25% discount on all charters and rentals of boats not included in their membership.

Sailboat Memberships

Boat ownership is no longer a barrier to boating; we have a fleet of boats waiting for you, allowing you to experience all of the benefits without the hassle or high cost. Build experience, knowledge and confidence at your own pace, with our welcoming community and skills building opportunities. With your full fleet to choose from, you don’t have to sail the same boat every time. Instead, choose your boat based on your boating plans and the size of your group.

Our membership structure allows you to pay one fee and then boat for free. Memberships will last for a minimum contract of 12 months. You don’t have to volunteer time or effort because we do it all for you. Repairs, maintenance, insurance, dockage… all of it!

Depending on the membership you choose, you will have free access to a number of skills building activities, including Tuesday Learn to Race nights, Wednesday Night Racing, and a number of learning clinics and seminars.

Graduates of our Basic Cruising course have the opportunity to join the club as a member at a vastly discounted rate. This includes access to the entire sailboat fleet, Tuesday Skills Building, Wednesday Race Series, Friday Social Sails and various skills building clinics and seminars throughout the year.

Cruising Sail $180/month*

Members have access to the entire sailboat fleet, Friday Night Social Sails and various skills building clinics and seminars throughout the year. Note: Does not include access to Tuesday Skills Building or Wednesday Race Series.

Racing & Cruising Sail $190/month*

Members have access to the entire sailboat fleet, Tuesday Skills Building, Wednesday Race Series, Friday Social Sails and various skills building clinics and seminars throughout the year.

We have streamlined our Sailing Club Membership, which allows members access to our entire fleet of keelboats, with no rental or yacht charter fees. Skipper status is based on sailing experience, affording members the opportunity to sail all of the boats in our fleet, including the Niagara 35.

Basic (B) Skipper Status 

For those who have successfully completed Basic Cruising

• J24s, Harbour 20s  
• Can crew on Niagara 35, and Hunter 24 until levels are obtained  

Basic Intermediate (BI) Skipper Status

For those who have successfully completed the practical portion of Intermediate Cruising

• Hunter 24, J24s, Harbour 20s  
• Can crew on Niagara 35 until levels are obtained

Intermediate (I) Skipper Status

For those who have completed the full Intermediate Cruising Standard

This membership provides unlimited evening (5pm–8pm) and weekend (9am–6pm) usage. Members must have completed our Independant Dinghy Sailing Course or hold their CANSail 3, or equivalent to be eligible for Dinghy Membership.

Looking for an economical solution to boost company morale and team productivity? Or maybe you don’t have enough time to plan an event yourself and you’re looking for fresh ideas for a fun team building activity. You’ve come to the right place!  

Take your usual corporate event in a new direction with team sailing, an on-the-water adventure in the heart of the city. Your adventure can be customized to engage colleagues in fun and unique team-building activities.  Simply provide our professional staff with your event objective, and we will create a program to suit your requirements.  

No prior boating experience is necessary to participate. Participants are with an instructor at all times when on the water. We may be able to accommodate groups of over 30 participants. Please contact us to discuss your options.

Team Racing Regatta 6–24 participants   

This classic event features a three-race mini regatta in the beautiful realms of Toronto’s inner harbour. As with all events, each team is briefed on the dos and don’ts of sailing, and then goes on to harness the exhilarating power of nature. They soon learn that communication is everything on the water, just as it is in the office. All positions on a boat are important – each is integral to the team. 

Cruising the Islands 2–32 participants   

If you prefer to cruise, we can set your team sailing on your chosen vessel. Colleagues and clients will enjoy a relaxing sail along Toronto’s breathtaking skyline and islands, or participate in sailing the boat under the guidance of our trained instructors. You dictate the pace.

Swans Yacht Sales is located in Whitby and offers year round boat storage.

At our facility in Whitby, we offer year-round, heated indoor or outdoor storage. We offer the ability to store your sailboat outdoors with the mast up.  The indoor winter storage is usually sold out by late August [but we occasionally have cancellations, so call for availability].

We also offer full decommissioning services for sail and power.  Engines, water systems, AC units, generators as well as sail and canvas removal, mast de-steps, cleaning and waxing are all available at our Whitby location or offsite. Yes we are mobile!

Toronto Boat Cruise on the Kajama

Step aboard and experience the finest restored Tall Ship on the Great Lakes.  Launched as the Wilfred in Rendsburg, Germany in 1930, the KAJAMA traded under sail for nearly 70 years. She was a familiar ship in ports from Northwest Spain, through western Europe, and as far north as Norway and Russia. In 1999, KAJAMA was delivered transatlantic to Toronto’s Waterfront and restored to her original profile. Sail aboard the Tall Ship that was seen on the Amazing Race.  We are proud to offer this 165-foot, three-masted gaff-rigged schooner, which can comfortably accommodate parties of up to 225 people.

Canada’s largest freshwater marina, MacDonald Turkey Point Marina serves cross-border boaters with 750 seasonal boat slips and 20 boathouses located on 80 acres on the shores of Lake Erie.

Welcome to the Toronto Sailing & Canoe Club. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run club located right on Lake Ontario in Toronto's Humber Bay. Founded in 1880, the club offers racing, cruising, sailing instruction, recreational paddling and children's sailing camps. Moor your boat, drysail it, or sail one of our fleet boats. A Belgian couple were attacked by an 11-strong pod of killer whales while sailing near Spain in their yacht.

Wim Vandenhende, 43, and Dana Huens, 36, were travelling past Spain on their way home from Greece when a pod of orcas “came out of nowhere” to attack the boat.

Iberian orcas are gaining notoriety along the Atlantic coasts of Spain and Portugal, as they begin to attack boats while they follow shoals of bluefin tuna from Gibraltar.

In May, two sailors had to be rescued by an oil tanker after a pod of orcas sank their sailing yacht. That month, researchers revealed that nearly 700 incidents of killer whales ramming into boats near the Iberian Peninsula had been documented.

Mr Vandenhende and Ms Huens were in their yacht, the Amidala, sailing near the Galician coast near A Coruña on Sunday afternoon.

The couple were resting before their three-day Bay of Biscay crossing when the surprise attack came.

“It happened very unexpectedly — the orcas came out of nowhere,” Vandenhende said, reports the Times.

“Suddenly we felt a heavy thud, as if we had hit something,” Vandenhende added. “When I looked over the side, I suddenly saw an orca surface next to our boat, close by. If I had stuck out my hand, I could have just touched it.”

The couple tried to sail away but the yacht’s rudder was repeatedly rammed by the aggressive orca pod - forcing them to call a Spanish rescue boat for help.

“We saw an orca who followed us the whole time and seemed to be keeping watch about 30 metres from our sailboat,” Vandenhende said.

“That was quite scary. We then tried to stay calm and focus on the things we could still do on board while waiting for the rescue services to arrive.”

The rescue tugboat arrived to pull them in but it was just half an hour before the orcas returned.

Mr Vandenhende said the attack itself was “actually not too bad”, saying you “get such an adrenaline rush and you are so focussed that you don’t have time to be afraid”.

He added: “When the orcas came back later, it was less fun. But I think the real fear will only come when we have to leave here again with the boat.”

The yacht was badly damaged and will be in a dry dock for repairs over the coming weeks.

Questions have been raised regarding the increase in orca attacks near the Spanish coast.

Marine biologist Alex Zerbini , chair of the scientific committee at the International Whaling Commission (IWC), told the Washington Post that there is “nothing in the behaviour of the animals that suggests that they’re being aggressive”.

“As they play with the rudder, they don’t understand that they can damage the rudder and that damaging the rudder will affect human beings. It’s more playful than intentional,” he added.

Small boats were warned to stick to the coastline around Spain and the Strait of Gibraltar to avoid the frightening interactions with killer whales.

YACHT HORROR: How did billionaire's 'unsinkable' boat end up on sea bottom? Back to video

Billionaire tech entrepreneur Mike Lynch’s cage was gilded to be sure but a cage nonetheless.

And when he was cleared, Lynch took pals for a Mediterranean cruise on his super yacht, the Bayesian, which he was mulling selling. That will never happen.

On Monday morning, the Bayesian sank off the coast of Sicily killing Lynch, his daughter Hannah, 18, two couples and the yacht’s Canadian chef.

Now, investigators are trying to determine how — and why — the “unsinkable” 184-foot yacht sank 160 feet to the bottom of the sea. The yacht’s captain may be the only person who has the answers.

— His wife revealed she was awoken by a “tilt” as the yacht went down;

For two hours following the disaster, police questioned Kiwi captain James Cutfield, 51.

One major question is why the Bayesian sank so quickly.

“Every time a vessel sinks, there is never just one reason,” shipwreck researcher Bertrand Scibo told The UK Sun . “It could be that the keel was also inside or outside, because they can remove the keel [sic].”

He added: [There would be] no reason to remove the keel because they do that only when they go into harbour. Only the captain will be able to answer this special question.”

So far, five bodies — including Lynch’s — have been recovered with six being confirmed dead. There were 15 survivors.

Scibo was also concerned regarding the slow trickle of information and answers being released by officials. He said “all the information seems to be a bit secret.”

The CEO of the company that manufactured the yacht, Giovanni Costantino, claimed his boats are “unsinkable” and the “safest ever.” Instead, he told Italian TV that “human error” was to blame.

As the horror unfolded in Porticello Harbour on Monday morning, witnesses in a smaller boat claimed the mast was hammered by a waterspout causing the boat to capsize — and then vanish beneath the waves.

A British lawyer specializing in maritime law told the Daily Mail that officials will likely target the crew for answers.

“They will want to find out if the captain was at fault over anything,” lawyer Stephen Askins said. “If I was looking at this I’d be very interested in the weather report, what the captain was briefing the crew and what the captain was briefing the owner.”

He added: “It’s a case of looking at what happened and then asking yourself whether in all the circumstances what he did was reasonable.”

Shipwreck researcher Scibo said open windows and portholes could also be a recipe for disaster with the water flooding in “very quickly,” expediting the yacht’s demise.

“If you’ve got a combination of all these reasons, the keel, the mast, the portal, the windows and this very big tornado,” he said. “You find the reason of the sinking.”

The child of Irish immigrants, Lynch won a scholarship to a posh private school and then attended Cambridge.

Only two months ago he won a shocking landmark victory in the U.S. courts. Tech giant Hewlett Packard claimed Lynch artificially inflated the value of his software firm, Autonomy.

He had sold Autonomy to HP for a whopping $11.7 billion in 2011.

Prosecutors had accused Lynch, along with Autonomy’s finance executive Stephen Chamberlain — who died in a tragic car crash Saturday — padded Autonomy’s bottom line.

After being cleared, Lynch told The Times of London that he had feared dying in prison.

″If this had gone the wrong way, it would have been the end of my life as I have known it in any sense,” Lynch told the newspaper. “It’s bizarre, but now you have a second life — the question is, what do you want to do with it?”

While Daisy came to his defense, his love triangle with Daisy and Colin was also problematic, with Gary becoming distracted by the Below Deck drama. By casting Gary in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, Bravo indicated that sexual misconduct wasn't taken seriously by the network .

Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 Needs To Bring It For Bravo To Order Another Season

The series is in trouble.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 has allegedly already been filmed, with rumors swirling that Gary's scandal has halted its release. Given his prominence in the series, it would be difficult to edit Gary out of the show or even reduce his role. Therefore, it would be better for Bravo to scrap the current season entirely and film a new charter season for Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5 .

It's the responsibility of Bravo producers to ensure the safety of the cast and crew during filming, and Samantha wasn't adequately protected from Gary's advances.

The cast and crew would need to bring it to revitalize the spin-off, or it's going to get canceled. Below Deck , Below Deck Mediterranean , and Below Deck Down Under are successful enough to continue without Below Deck Sailing Yacht . The popular cast members could go to another Below Deck series.

What Can Below Deck Sailing Yacht Producers Do To Fix The Show's Reputation?

They need to get rid of gary.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is a sinking ship , but not all hope is lost. Bravo producers have already shown their understanding of the seriousness of Gary's sexual misconduct by disinviting him to BravoCon in 2023. However, they need to further distance themselves from Gary and fire him from future seasons. If it's impossible to decrease his presence in Below Deck Sailing Yacht season 5, the season needs to be scrapped. Only then can Below Deck Sailing Yacht return in good faith and conscience for another installment.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht is a spin-off of the Below Deck reality television series. Premiering on Bravo, the show follows the life of a Yacht crew as they attempt to navigate a busy Charter season in which many customers make use of a 177-foot sailing yacht. Over the first three seasons, the yacht has been to Greece, Croatia, and Spain.
