KOGO Motor yacht for sale

KOGO is a 71.7m (235.2ft) yacht with an ice-classed steel hull and aluminium superstructure built to Lloyd’s classification and MCA compliance, and delivered by French shipyard Alstom Leroux Naval in 2006. Her exterior design is by Tim Heywood, Terence Disdale Design created her interiors and naval architecture is by Burness Corlett Three Quays. The result of an extraordinary collaboration, KOGO won the World Superyacht of the Year award in 2007.

KOGO is a 71.7m (235.2ft) yacht with an ice-classed steel hull and aluminium superstructure built to Lloyd’s classification and MCA compliance, and delivered by French shipyard Alstom Leroux Naval in 2006. Her exterior design is by Tim Heywood, Terence Disdale Design created her interiors and naval architecture is by Burness Corlett Three Quays. The result of an extraordinary collaboration, KOGO won the World Superyacht of the Year award in 2007.

Her sun deck has a large jacuzzi forward flanked by sun pads and sheltered by glass screens, and aft there is an al fresco dining area with bar, sheltered by sliding screens either side and more sun pads aft. Her bridge deck saloon offers a variety of social spaces with a bar, gaming table and lounge area, with sliding glass doors opening out onto a large sun lounge for relaxation or entertainment. This space also doubles as an outdoor cinema with world class Dolby surround sound.

Her main deck has a versatile formal dining room to port, seating two tables of eight or one table of 16, all enjoying excellent views out through large picture windows. To starboard is the main saloon, which doubles as a state-of-the-art entertainment centre with Dolby surround sound and a HD cinema screen. From the aft main deck steps lead down to a fold-down swim platform and a large beach club area well suited to parties.

Disdale describes KOGO’s interiors as ‘clean modern lines with a Zen influence’ and there is a calming aura of balance on board as one descends to the lower deck, where guests can work out in a well-equipped gym, sweat it out in a steam room, freshen up in a shower room before enjoying a soothing rub down in the massage room.

The spacious owner’s suite is forward on the main deck. The bedroom is to starboard and there is a lounge-study area to port with his and hers walk-in wardrobes and a bathroom forward with his and hers wash and shower facilities and a shared bath. She has two double cabins on the main deck and, on the lower deck, two further double cabins and two twin cabins complete versatile accommodation for 14, attended to by up to 21 crew.

Diesel electric propulsion is provided by twin Caterpillar 3512B engines driving two ABB Azipod drives, new in 2016, that together with the Brunvoll bowthruster enable dynamic positioning. She has a top speed of 17kn, a cruising speed of 15kn and a range of 5,000nm at 11kn. Four Quantum zero speed stabilisers ensure stability at anchor and there is a helideck for access in remote locations.

PRESENTING KOGO

The 235-foot superyacht, KOGO, features quality construction. She has a signature exterior design by Tim Heywood.  The yacht’s luxury interiors are by Terence Disdale. The 71-meter superyacht is a French shipyard, Alstom Marine, build.  She features accommodations for twelve guests, attended by a professional crew of approximately two dozen.  She has a crew-to-guest ratio of 2:1.

STABILIZERS

The yacht is a custom-built displacement model.  KOGO has modern stabilizers.  These reduce roll and motion. In specific, both at anchor and while underway.  Stabilizers on a large displacement yacht are critical. Specifically, for delivering the superyacht experience during the charter.  Comfort and safety are both important.  Overall, this vessel achieves the highest Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) large yacht standards.

She has notable amenities. For instance, an outdoor stage with concert-quality lighting. Additionally, a sound system and a stone-clad upper aft deck with a helipad.  In addition, a fully-equipped gym, steam room, and a large Jacuzzi-style dip pool.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Cabin accommodations include 7 staterooms. In specific, an Owner’s suite and four double cabins. Further, two twin cabins.

The Disdale interior is a fusion. As revealed by minimalism and Asian Zen.  Most yachts feature wall-to-wall carpeting for sound deadening. Alternately, this yacht boasts uncluttered salons. Plus, cabins with dark wood floors and crème-colored area rugs.  In addition, ceiling panels are rattan and bamboo. Credit Team Disdale for her not only calm but also peaceful ambiance.

PERFORMANCE

In contrast, the yacht’s performance is anything but peaceful. The massive superyacht cruises at an impressive 14 knots, owing to twin MTU/Caterpillar engines generating over 4000 horsepower.

A Summary of Motor Yacht KOGO

Coming from the Alstom Marine/Chantiers De Latlantique ship building company in France the KOGO is 72 metre 235 (foot) in length. Christened in 2005 this boat’s interior design reflects the talents emanating from the boards of Terence Disdale Design. Superyacht KOGO can accommodate up to 14 people with 26 professional crew. This large motor yacht has a helicopter platform. Her old, former or build project names are 829. She will attain a maximum speed of 16 knots.

Shipyard Work & Designing of Luxury Yacht KOGO

Tim Heywood was the naval architect firm involved in the professional vessel design work for KOGO. Also the company Tim Heywood and Chaurand expertly worked on this venture. Interior designer Terence Disdale Design was responsible for the internal internal ambience. In 2005 she was actually launched with triumph in Lorient and post sea trials and final completion was thereafter passed on to the owner who commissioned her. Alstom Marine/Chantiers De Latlantique completed their new build motor yacht in France. The main hull was constructed with steel. The motor yacht main superstructure is fabricated for the most part with aluminium. With a beam of 14.2 m / 46.6 feet KOGO has sizeable interior. She has a reasonably deep draught of 3.75m (12.3ft).

The Main Engines And The Speed The M/Y KOGO is Able To Achieve:

Connected to her MTU / Caterpillar engine(s) are twin screw propellers (pods). The engine of the ship gives 2038 horse power (or 1500 kilowatts). She is equiped with 2 engines. The total power for the yacht is accordingly 4076 HP / 4000 KW. With respect to stabalisers she uses Zero Speed.

Offering cabins for a limit of 14 visiting passengers staying on board, the KOGO accommodates them luxuriously. She also carries around 26 expert yacht crew to manage.

72m Alstom motor yacht Kogo sold

The 71.7-metre motor yacht Kogo has been sold with Burgess ' Dominic Millman representing both the buyer and seller.

Designed by Tim Heywood , Kogo was built with an ice-classed steel hull by French yard Alstom Marine to Lloyd's class and delivered in 2006. A Terence Disdale interior accommodates 14 guests in seven cabins comprising a master suite, two VIP suites, two doubles and two twins. All cabins have entertainment centres, flatscreen television sets and en suite bathroom facilities, while crew quarters are in 12 cabins for a team of 22.

A spacious main saloon with inviting U-shaped sofas is perfect for enjoying the yacht’s state-of-the-art entertainment systems, or for more formal gatherings. Guests may use the space to gather for pre-dinner drinks before proceeding to the dining room which can comfortably accommodate a party of up to 18.

The upper deck sky lounge provides guests with a touch of the exotic, where dark woods contrast with crackled lacquers and shagreen furniture.

On deck amenities are found in abundance aboard Kogo , with several opportunities for al fresco dining and entertaining, while the sundeck hosts a Jacuzzi pool flanked by built-in sun beds. On the other side of the mast is a helicopter landing pad. 

Kogo is powered by two 2,145hp diesel-electric engines driving two ABB Azipods for a top speed of 17 knots and a range of 5,000 nautical miles at 11 knots. Four Quantum zero speed stabilisers keep her steady at anchor and she is also MCA compliant.

Kogo was last asking $62,500,000.

The British-flagged 184-foot-long yacht , which the experts estimated cost around $40 million, capsized and went down on Aug. 19 within minutes of being hit by a pre-dawn storm while anchored off northern Sicily. Prosecutors in the town of Termini Imerese, near Palermo,  are investigating the captain and two other crew members. An investigation does not imply guilt or mean formal charges will follow. Prosecutors have said the probe, which includes looking into crimes of manslaughter and shipwreck, would take time and require salvaging the wreck. The captain, James Cutfield, flew out of Palermo on a private jet on Thursday, an investigative source told Reuters . Cutfield's destination was unclear. Cutfield, a native of New Zealand, and his wife live in Palma, the capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca. The superyacht's hull was insured against physical damage by yacht insurance provider OMAC and a consortium of insurers including Travelers Companies Inc (TRV.N), Navium Marine and Convex, Reuters  reported  last week. Its protection and indemnity (P&I) insurance, which typically covers third-party liability claims including for environmental damage, injury and death, was provided by British Marine. The hull was likely insured for around $40 million, while the P&I cover would be larger, insurance sources said. "Our understanding is that the cost of the boat was between $40 and $50 million, so the limit of the hull and machinery policy was probably around those values," said Marcos Alvarez, managing director, global financial institution ratings at Morningstar DBRS. The P&I policy would likely be "several multiples" of the hull policy, or $200-300 million, Alvarez added, noting it would also likely cover liability payments even if the captain or crew are found to be negligent. What to know after Mike Lynch yacht disaster left 7 dead Oscar Seikaly, CEO of broker NSI Insurance Group, that provides yacht insurance, estimated the hull value at $40-70 million, but said P&I cover might not total more than $100 million. P&I insurance would also cover recovery of the Bayesian, said Francesco Dubbioso, country manager for Italy for insurer Alta Signa Europe, who estimated the superyacht's value at $30 million to $40 million. Reuters is the first to report the potential insurance costs. OMAC, Travelers and Navium Marine did not immediately respond to Reuters' for comment. Convex declined to comment. The Bayesian disaster, which has puzzled experts who said the boat would have been built to withstand a severe storm, adds to recent woes for yacht insurers, who have faced a raft of hurricane losses in the past few years. Premium rates have risen by four to five times in the past couple of years in parts of the U.S. and the Caribbean, and yacht insurers have cut the amount of cover they provide because of the risks, Seikaly said. As a result, insurers have increased rates and re-evaluated their guidelines and risk appetite, according to industry experts. As well as hurricanes, insured losses have mostly stemmed from severe storms, floods, and other weather events in North America, the Caribbean, and Europe, according to a report by broker Marsh. Seikaly said four clients had last week been ready to buy boats but changed their minds because of the high cost of insurance. Climate change was also likely to add to yacht insurers' worries, Seikaly added, as it throws up more unexpected events. Italian Coast Guards take part in searches of missing off Porticello near Palermo, on Aug. 21, 2024. Italian prosecutors will investigate James Cutfield, the captain of the Bayesian, for manslaughter after the ship sank in rough weather overnight on Aug. 18, multiple outlets reported Monday. The investigation will look into if the crew of the ship appropriately handled the storm that hit the yacht before it capsized, if passengers were warned of imminent danger and if hatches on the ship were left ajar, which would have contributed to its quick sinking. As part of the probe, the ship will be raised from the waters in which it sank later this year, CNN reported , at the cost of registered owner Angela Bacares, the wife and mother, respectively, of victims Michael and Hannah Lynch. The Bayesian, named for a mathematical theory, is currently about 50 meters (164 feet) below the surface near the port of Porticello in Sicily, Italy, and sank less than a minute after it capsized. It is legally owned by Bacares and her late husband "had a lot of pride" in his yacht, a staff member told The Times of London. The Lynch/Bacares family was on board with seven guests and the boat was anchored when a storm hit overnight on Sunday, Aug. 18. The harsh weather included a " waterspout ," a tornado-like swirling column of air and water, that caused the vessel to top over and it was then quickly dragged underwater. Of the 10 passengers, six died in the capsizing and their bodies were recovered last week. There were also 12 crew members on board and one, Recaldo Thomas, also died. Among those resued were Bacares; Charlotte Golunski, a partner at Lynch's Invoke Capital, along with her partner and her baby daughter; lawyer Ayla Ronald and her partner. Share full article By Alan Yuhas More than 180 feet long, with a mast towering about 240 feet and a keel that could be lowered for greater stability, the Bayesian luxury yacht did not, in the eyes of its maker, have the vulnerabilities of a ship that would easily sink. “It drives me insane,” Giovanni Costantino, the chief executive of the Italian Sea Group, which in 2022 bought the company that made the ship, said after its wreck last week. “Following all the proper procedures, that boat is unsinkable.” But the $40 million sailing yacht sank within minutes and with fatal results: seven dead, including the British technology billionaire Michael Lynch, his teenage daughter, four of Mr. Lynch’s friends and a member of the crew. Fifteen people, including the captain, escaped on a lifeboat. Mr. Lynch had invited family, friends and part of his legal team on a cruise in the Mediterranean to celebrate his acquittal in June of fraud charges tied to the sale of his company to the tech giant Hewlett-Packard. The Italian authorities have opened a manslaughter investigation, searching for answers from the survivors, the manufacturer and the wreck itself. They face a range of questions and possible factors. An ‘earthquake’ in the sky? When the Bayesian sank around 4 a.m. on Aug. 19, the waters in its area, about half a mile off the Sicilian port of Porticello, were transformed by an extremely sudden and violent storm, according to fishermen, a captain in the area and meteorologists. But what kind of storm is still a mystery, compounded by the fact that a sailing schooner anchored nearby did not have its own disaster. Also unclear is whether the crew was aware that the Italian authorities had issued general warnings about bad weather the night before. Karsten Börner, the captain of the nearby passenger ship, said he’d had to steady his ship during “really violent” winds . During the storm, he said, the Bayesian seemed to disappear behind his ship. Severe lightning and strong gusts were registered by the Italian Air Force’s Center for Aerospace Meteorology and Climatology, according to Attilio Di Diodato, its director. “It was very intense and brief in duration,” he said. The yacht, he said, had most likely been hit by a fierce downburst — a blast of powerful wind surging down during a thunderstorm. His agency put out rough-sea warnings the previous evening, alerting sailors about possible storms. Locals have said the winds “felt like an earthquake.” A fisherman in Porticello said that he had seen a flare go off in the early-morning hours. His brother ventured to the site once the weather had calmed about 20 minutes later, he said, finding only floating cushions. The Italian authorities have so far declined to say whether investigators had seen any structural damage to the hull or other parts of the ship. Open hatches or doors? The boat executive, Mr. Costantino, has argued that the Bayesian was an extremely safe vessel that could list even to 75 degrees without capsizing. His company, the Italian Sea Group, in 2022 bought the yacht’s manufacturer, Perini Navi, which launched the ship in 2008. Mr. Costantino said that if some of the hatches on the side and in the stern, or some of the deck doors, had been open, the boat could have taken on water and sunk. Standard procedure in such storms, he said, would be to switch on the engine, lift the anchor and turn the boat into the wind, lowering the keel for extra stability, closing doors and gathering the guests in the main hall inside the deck. At a news conference on Saturday, almost a week after the sinking, investigators said the yacht had sunk at an angle , with its stern — where the heavy engine was — having gone down first. The wreck was found lying on its right side at the bottom of a bay, about 165 feet deep. 12 guests occupied the yacht’s six cabins. There were also 10 crew members. Asked about the hatches at the news conference, the authorities declined to comment on whether they had been found open at the wreck. The authorities have also not specified whether the boat had been anchored, whether it was under power at the time or whether its sails had been unfurled. A retracted keel? The Bayesian had a keel — the fin-like structure beneath a boat that can help stabilize it — that could be retracted or extended, according to its manufacturer. On some yachts, keels can be raised to let the large vessel dock in shallower water, and extended downward to help keep a boat level. But like the hatches, the status of the keel alone may not explain why a large ship sank with such precipitous speed. Investigators have not disclosed what divers may have seen at the wreck, aside from saying divers had faced obstacles like furnishings and electrical wiring in tight quarters. Officials want to raise the wreck to better examine it, a process that may take weeks. Human error? Ambrogio Cartosio, the prosecutor in charge of the case, said at the news conference that it was “plausible” crimes had been committed, but that investigators had not zeroed in on any potential suspects. “There could be responsibilities of the captain only,” he said. “There could be responsibilities of the whole crew. There could be responsibilities of the boat makers. Or there could be responsibilities of those who were in charge of surveilling the boat.” It remains unclear what kind of emergency training or preparation took place before the disaster, or what kind of coordination there was during it. So far, none of the surviving crew members have made a public statement about what happened the night the ship sank. Prosecutors said they want to ask more questions of the captain and crew, who have been in a Sicilian hotel with other survivors. They said that neither alcohol nor drug tests had been performed on crew members, and that they have been allowed to leave Italy. Prosecutors also said they were also investigating why the captain, an experienced sailor, left the sinking boat while some passengers were still on board. Besides possible manslaughter charges, the authorities are investigating the possibility of a negligently caused shipwreck. The bodies of five passengers were found in one cabin, on the left side of the yacht, the authorities said. The five were most likely trying to flee to the higher side of the boat and were probably sleeping when the boat started to sink, they said. A small waterspout – a type of tornado – spun over the Mediterranean island early Monday, likely capsizing the sailing boat amid lashings of rain and strong thunderstorms. The British-flagged yacht, called the “Bayesian,” was anchored about a half a mile from the port of Porticello, on Sicily’s northern coast. The vessel sank after its mast broke in half in the storm, Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily’s Civil Protection, told CNN on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses described furious gales and hurricane-like winds that left an avalanche of debris near the pier. More than a dozen survivors were spotted in the area hanging onto life rafts, according to the captain of a nearby boat, who steadied his ship to avoid colliding with the Bayesian. “We got this strong hurricane gust and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position,” Karsten Bower told reporters in Palermo on Monday. “After the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone.” Related article Former co-defendant of British tycoon missing in luxury yacht sinking dies after being struck by car Bower and his crew rescued four injured people, he said, before calling Italy’s Coast Guard – who later rescued the remaining survivors. One of those rescued – a child – was airlifted to the children’s hospital in Palermo. Eight people were hospitalized in total, according to the mayor’s office. The girl’s mother, Charlotte, described how she battled to hold onto Sofia, her 1-year-old daughter, as reported by Italian news agency ANSA. “In two seconds I lost the baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amidst the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy,” she told journalists. “Many were screaming.” The mother and daughter were later reunited with the father, James, according to a doctor at the local children’s hospital in Palermo. “The survivors are very tired and are constantly asking about the missing people,” the doctor, Domenico Cipolla, said Monday. “They are talking and crying all the time because they have realized that there is little hope of finding their friends alive.” Italy’s fire brigade dispatched helicopters to aid in the search, officials said Monday. After an unsuccessful attempt on Monday, the brigade sent divers to try and enter the sunken ship Tuesday, recommencing the operation on Wednesday. The depth of the wreck means divers can only work there for limited periods of time, according to Marco Tilotta, an inspector for the diving unit of Palermo’s local fire brigade. The Italian fire brigade said Monday its divers had reached the yacht’s hull 49 meters (160 feet) below sea level. The United Kingdom’s Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said it has deployed a team of four inspectors to Palermo which is conducting a preliminary assessment of the scene. Who was on board? Twenty-two people were on board the Bayesian, which was flying under a British flag and had mostly British passengers and crew, in addition to two Anglo-French, one Irish and one Sri Lankan person, a spokesperson for Italy’s Coast Guard told CNN. A troupe of high-profile guests are among those missing, including Lynch, the 59-year-old British tech investor who fought a fraud case earlier this year in the United States – which spiraled from the disastrous $11 billion sale of his company to tech firm Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011. His 18-year-old daughter was also named missing. Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, survived the accident. Bacares told Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica that she woke up at 4 a.m. local time, as the boat tilted. She and her husband were not initially concerned, she said, but became worried when the windows of the yacht shattered and chaos erupted. Bacares spoke to the newspaper while sitting in a wheelchair, at a hospital in the Sicilian town of Termini Imerese. She had abrasions on her feet and bandages on other parts of her body, it reported. Bloomer, the finance tycoon, and Morvillo, a prominent lawyer – and both their wives – are also among the missing, according to Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily’s Civil Protection. Morvillo, an American partner at Clifford Chance, was involved in successfully defeating the US fraud case against Lynch in June. Another employee of the firm, Ayla Ronald, and her partner, survived the incident, according to a spokesperson for Clifford Chance. The body that was recovered from the vessel on Monday was identified as the onboard chef Ricardo Thomas, an Antiguan citizen, Reuters reported. What do we know about the boat? Built in 2008, the 56-meter (184-foot) yacht was manufactured by Italian company Perini Navi, Reuters reported. According to the Associated Press, the boat has been available for charter for $215,000 (€195,000) per week. Lynch’s wife is linked to the yacht. The Bayesian is held by the company Revtom Limited, according to records from the maritime information service Equasis. The company’s latest annual return from April lists Bacares as the proprietor. “Bayesian,” the name given to the vessel, is linked to the statistical theory on which Lynch built his fortune, according to Reuters. The yacht’s mast stood 72.27 meters (237 feet) high above the designated water line, just short of the world’s tallest mast which is 75.2 meters, according to Guinness World Records. It was the tallest aluminium mast in the world, the Perini Navi website said. Perini Navi is known for making “good quality boats,” according to Caroline White, deputy editor of BOAT International, a media group serving the superyacht industry. White told CNN that if the Bayesian dismasted, “it should theoretically become more stable.” “But it might be a different story if you are in the middle of a violent storm with incredibly strong winds pinning you to the water,” she added. Dangerous weather conditions Strong storms across Sicily brought torrential rainfall late Sunday. Initial reports suggest a small  waterspout , which developed over the area Monday morning, could have been behind the yacht’s sinking. Waterspouts – one of several types of tornadoes – are spinning columns of air that form over water, or move from land out to water. They are often accompanied by  high winds, high seas, hail and dangerous lightning . While they are most common over tropical oceans, they can form almost anywhere. Matthew Schanck, chair of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, told CNN that while waterspouts in Sicily are rare, “there is a risk” they can happen – just not every day. Waterspouts rely on warm waters to gain energy and the Mediterranean Sea has been very hot, reaching a record  daily median of 28.9 degrees Celsius  (84 Fahrenheit) last week, according to preliminary data from researchers at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Spain. Local temperatures have been even higher, with waters around Sicily reaching almost 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), almost 3 degrees more than normal, Italian climatologist Luca Mercalli told CNN. “Warmer oceans have more energy and more humidity to transfer to the atmosphere, the most important fuels for storms,” he said.
