It's very compact wich makes storing boats a bit hard and the are it is is annoying because the waves hit off the break walls and come back at you ruining your boat speed.

Sadly it is not what we thought. I enrolled my son to a beginners club, but must of the students were not, so they decided not to teach for beginners. My son was very afraid since he was out in the water the 2nd class when he had not clue of what to do. The very first class the instructor decided to finish the class an hours before without letting me know. My son was alone at the parking lot, freezing for 40 mins. Honestly I wanted this to be an amazing experience for him but it was the opposite. He did not want to go back to the club. Now that I am asking for a refund they are not responding my calls or my emails. This is very unfortunate. We are very very sad and upset. Because of this experience, I do not recommend this club,,, i don't think my son was save, first because he was left alone in his first class in the parking lot for 40 mins and then because he was out in the water the 2nd class without having an idea of what to do,,, this is not save!!!!

I was at the Yacht Club for an event sponsored by two vendors we purchase from. The food was great, they had different options for so everyone. My favorite part of the evening was the Jazz/Big Band Orchestra they had playing there that evening. "The Outcast Jazz Band" was fantastic.it took me back to the days when I would visit my grandmother and her stereo was always on playing her music. I guess you could say it was our music because I loved it as much as she did. Without a band leader thy never missed a beat. The sound was purely magical and just made you feel good. I am now following this band in social media. When I come back to Chicago I hope to hear them again. #ChicagoJazzBand

What!!?? Only 2 reviews?? The Chicago Yacht Club Belmont deserves much better than that. Team, I come here for the food. While doing that, I get fantastic service! The chef is AMAZING. She comes out and socializes a bit and asks if there is anything she can do. Challenge her. She'll surprise you and make your night. For a casual place, it is top notch food and service. If you have not had the Oysters Rockefeller, they are to die for. They're served, ready for this? Upside down! They are fantastic. Go there on "burger night". They're great. The pizza is, well, worth the price, but not as good as the oysters or the burgers. The view is beautiful. Enjoy!!

If you've never been on a boat before but want to try it, the Chicago Yacht Club is the way to go!! Not to mention how much all the seasoned sailors love the club! I've had the opportunity to check out CYC's Belmont Station today, through my volunteer group (Chicago Fun Volunteers: http://www.meetup.com/Chicago-Fun-Volunteers/) and met the amazing people at YCY's Race Committee!! Race season is officially upon us, and I was 'recruited' to join the RC as a volunteer! Walking along LSD, I've always marveled at the dinghy & sailboats parked out in the bay. Of course, without the $ and connections, I always thought that sailing is beyond reach. Alas!! The Racing committee is such a wonderful way to get involved, while meeting others who enjoy the sport of boat racing! The CYC has 2 properties at their Belmont Station, the RC orientation was hosted upstairs in the meeting room, which had a great 360 view of the pier and a gorgeous patio / balcony to watch the sunset. I missed the ride on the sailboat, but will definitely be signing up for many races this season!! Yay CYC!! I am so glad I found ya!

Very quite considering it is in the middle of the city. The dock is clean and the people are nice.

Grunion sports, grunion sports | on the water: 2025 congressional cup extends its first invite — to a familiar face.

belmont chicago yacht club

The first formal invitation to the 2025 Congressional Cup was presented by regatta chairman Steven Meyer at Bayview Yacht Club in Detroit last week.

The invite went to the winning skipper of the Grand Slam series — American Chris Poole.

Light air racing in Detroit saw Poole and his Riptide team finally claim the Detroit Cup. This win had eluded the team since its first appearance at this regatta back in 2012.

Following the win, Poole wrote a Facebook tribute to Long Beach yachtsman Dougie Pye, who died Aug. 21.

“We know Coach Dougie would have been proud of this one,” Poole wrote. “I am absolutely gutted to have lost my good friend Doug Pye.  We met in Long Beach during the Congressional Cup a few years back when he took me and the Riptide team under his wing and became our coach. He was instrumental in my development and growth over the past five years, helping me become the best match racer in the world by sharing his wisdom without hesitation. I’m so glad you got to be part of our history making wins the last few years and you will always be with us for all of our future victories. You will be missed immensely and immeasurably, Dougie, but legends never die. We will stay the course and think of you always Coach.”

Poole and his team from Riptide Racing won the Congressional Cup in 2023 and 2024.

The Grand Slam is a series of four Grade 2 match racing events in the U.S. in which the overall winner receives an invitation to the Congressional Cup. The winner of the series also receives an invitation to the 2024 Bermuda Gold Cup. Traditionally. the regattas are held at various yacht clubs, including the Chicago Yacht Club, Bayview Yacht Club, Seawanhaka Corinthian Yacht Club, and Oakcliff Sailing.

Steven Meyer confirmed the official 2025 dates for the Congressional Cup. The first day of racing will be April 30 and the regatta will continue May 1-4, with viewing off the Belmont Pier.

ABYC Labor Day weekend regatta

There were 95 entries in eight classes that raced from Friday to Sunday, Aug. 30-Sept. 1, in Long Beach.

Among the big names was Anna Tunnicliffe, who made waves in a 2012 photo for ESPN’s Body Issue — in which she was shown sailing her radial using every single muscle in her body while surfing rough waves. In 2008, she won an Olympic gold medal in the Laser Radial single-handed sailing class. In 2009 and 2011, she won the ISAF Sailing World Cup in Laser Radial.

Tunnicliffe was on the water in Long Beach for the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club’s regatta — fully clothed in a coach boat and teaching young local sailors the ropes.

Notable wins over the weekend included: F18, Pete Melvin and Luke Melvin; and Melges 15, Hayden Rietdyk and Sophia Corzine. Sailors Mike Corzine and Scott Munch took home the Richard Lounsbery Perpetual Trophy for the Cal 20 series, and brothers Jack Brodsky and Blake Brodsky took first and third, respectfully, in the RS Tera Sport Class. Nicholas Mueller placed first in the ILCA 7 class.

Martine Grael will be the first female skipper in Brazil’s coming entry in SailGP, and she is no stranger to Long Beach. She sailed at age 16 as part of a 2007 Mayor’s Cup Brazilian team that raced on a Catalina 37.

The Enel Rio Sail Grand Prix will take place May 3-4 in Guanabara Bay, in front of the backdrop of Sugarloaf Mountain and the Rio skyline.

SailGP requires female crews as of a few years ago. As a double gold medalist in the 49erFX and a veteran round-the-world racer and third-generation top sailor, the only thing separating Grael from male drivers at the front of the SailGP pack is time in the boat.

I’m sure she’s working on that.

California Yacht Club

Cal Yacht Club has been part of the Marina del Rey sailing scene since the marina was formed in 1965. Their lease expires in less than a year. In December 2023, the club burned to the ground.

Without a long-term lease renewal from the county, they can’t rebuild their clubhouse. They are asking folks to sign a petition to encourage the lease renewal. The petition can be found at change.org/p/support-california-yacht-club .

Despite the loss of the clubhouse, the club’s new ownership recently purchased a new coach boat and four new C420 sailboats for the club’s doublehanded race team, said Waterfront Director Chase Young.

The club’s investment in new maritime assets appears to have paid off.

During the C420 Women’s North Americans, held July 17-20, Katlia Sherman and Leila Landay placed third and led for most of the event. In the C420 Open North Americans, the CYC team of Cooper Keeves and Matthew Commons won in Redwood City with gusts of more than 25 knots and lots of chop.

In addition to Cooper and Matthew’s win at NA’s, they also won the C420 Triple Crown, with second place finishes in the C420 Midwinter Championships and the C420 South Shore Championships.

Twenty boats and crews have already claimed their spot on the starting line for the 2025 Transpacific Yacht Race.

The send off party is June 28 — with the three starts on July 1, 3 and 5.
