Accommodation

Chiller Replacement | MY Lady Duvera

MY Lady Duvera, originally built by Hakvoort Shipyard in 2000, is a stunning vessel accommodating up to 10 guests in five luxury staterooms. Lady Duvera has been constantly upgraded and maintained  to be kept to Lloyds and MCA class. In 2017, the experienced owner decided the yacht was in need of a chilled water unit replacement. The chiller replacement has been carried out by Heinen & Hopman at STP Yard in Mallorca, a shipyard that specializes in refit and repair activities.

Working on a time crunch

In general, time is scarce for refit projects and working on a time crunch was challenging, but Heinen & Hopman  has cooperated to provide good service. Mannie Avenia, captain of MY Lady Duvera, comments: “ In general the service has been very good, occasionally in the past it was hard to get assistance in Spain, but this past year has got much better. ”

Chiller replacement

After dismantling the existing chilled water unit – together with the seawater pump and chilled water pump – a custom-built Heinen & Hopman seawater cooled chilled water unit has been placed inside the engine room. The chilled water unit is equipped with a load bank, which allows for applying extra electrical load to the chilled water unit. This way, the electrical load on the generator can be optimized, resulting in a longer generator lifespan. Capt. Avenia: “ The removal of the old unit and the installation of the new one went well. The work done is very good .”

The 43.6m/143'1" motor yacht 'Lady Duvera III' (ex. Lady Duvera) was built by Hakvoort in the Netherlands at their Monnickendam shipyard. Her interior is styled by design house Felix Buytendijk Yacht Design and she was completed in 2000. This luxury vessel's exterior design is the work of Diana Yacht Design.

Guest Accommodation

Lady Duvera III has been designed to comfortably accommodate up to 12 guests in 5 suites. She is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht experience.

Range & Performance

Lady Duvera III is built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. Powered by twin diesel Caterpillar (3508 DITA) 917hp engines, she comfortably cruises at 12 knots, reaches a maximum speed of 15 knots with a range of up to 4,606 nautical miles from her 52,500 litre fuel tanks at 12 knots. Her water tanks store around 3,100 Litres of fresh water. She was built to Lloyds Register classification society rules, and is MCA Compliant.

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the macabre mystery of the axeship Bärbel the daily JydskeVestkysten published several pages about the murdercase in August 2018.

Reporter Mark Michael Hede succeded in having a telephone-interview with the Russian sailor Andrey Lapin, who left the court in Germany as a free man many years ago. During the interview (the newspaperpicture, right) he was posted at Arctic Rescue Center in Murmansk.

Now Lapin is 53 and lives in Kaliningrad with wife and two kids. He works as a rescuediver for the russian government and has more than 250 rescuemissions on his cv. In his freetime he paints pictures.

Among other things Lapin told the Danish newspaper: "It is not fun to need to kill, and I would rather prefer to have avoided that. You know, I feel sorry for the families to those I killed. But I do not regret it. If I had not killed those two, I would not have been alive today."

Satellite image shows Putin’s alleged super yacht out of reach of sanctions

Experts say Putin’s luxury vessel has become a symbol not only of his vast hidden wealth, but also of how challenging that money has been to find.

“He’s a KGB agent, so he’s crafty. He knows how to hide when he needs to,” said John Smith, former director of the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, which administers and enforces all foreign sanctions.

Data from MarineTraffic, a global intelligence group, shows Putin’s alleged yacht, the Graceful, left Germany two weeks before the invasion of Ukraine .

Putin’s government salary is said to be about $140,000, but that doesn’t begin to explain the mansions, million-dollar watch collection and over-the-top yacht.

“It would be fair to say he’s among the richest men in the world,” Smith said.

Though he sells himself as a man of the people, his wealth is estimated to be more than $100 billion.

Putin’s critics allege he also has a cliffside palace that includes an amphitheater and a personal tunnel to the beach that doubles as a security bunker.

“Of course, he doesn’t acknowledge it as being his own,” Smith said. “It doesn’t fit with the public persona that he’s trying to create to actually acknowledge it.”

Putin relies on his oligarch friends to shield his fortune from sanctions, Smith said.

“So if he asked them to do something, they do it in terms of hiding assets, squirreling them in different parts of the globe, they will do what he needs,” he said.

Those who have tried to expose Putin’s fortune have done so at great personal risk.

Putin critic Boris Nemtsov was assassinated on a bridge in the shadow of the Kremlin in 2015. Sergei Magnitsky died in 2009 under questionable circumstances in prison after he exposed $230 million in fraud by Putin’s friends. Putin publicly condemned Nemtsov’s murder and claimed Magnitsky died of a heart attack.

His most recent No. 1 critic, Alexei Navalny , who helped expose Putin’s lavish palace, emerged as a political rival and found himself repeatedly jailed. He nearly died after being poisoned two years ago, though Putin has denied responsibility for the poisoning.

“Putin’s wealth is one of the most dangerous topics,” said Russian journalist Roman Badanin, who spent two decades investigating Putin’s financial web.

Badanin said Russian authorities sought to intimidate and silence his reporting team. Six months ago, he reached his breaking point.

“I fled the country. My apartment was searched twice. I have like three criminal charges against me back in Russia,” he said.

In his State of the Union address, President Biden said the U.S. and its allies are waging economic war on Putin and Russian oligarchs.

“We are joining with our European allies to find and seize your yachts, your luxury apartments and your private jets,” Biden said.

On Wednesday, the Justice Department announced the formation of a new task force that would target Russian oligarchs.

“Russia is not a transparent economy,” Smith said. “The U.S. and our allies have decent information on some of [Putin’s] assets, I think a lot will remain a mystery for a long time in the future.”

The biggest financial hit for Putin would be sanctions on the energy sector, which Smith says the Russian president has used to build up his wealth for years. So far, Washington and the Europeans have been hesitant to do that.

Steve Jobs' former yacht Venus collided with another superyacht off the coast of Naples

• Venus, the yacht built for Steve Jobs , collided with another yacht off Italy's coast.
• It's unclear which yacht struck which or when exactly the crash occurred.
• With a minimalist design, Venus is one of the world's most iconic superyachts.

Venus, Steve Jobs' former superyacht — now owned by his wife, the philanthropist and investor Laurene Powell Jobs — has collided with another superyacht off of the Italian coast.

A spokesperson from Powell Jobs' Emerson Collective who spoke with a crewmember confirmed to Business Insider that Venus, the 78-meter yacht Steve Jobs commissioned, had collided with Lady Moura, a 105-meter yacht. The collision happened on July 22 off the coast of Naples, Italy.

The spokesperson said that only crew were onboard the yacht and that both boats were anchored when a sudden change of wind led to the collision.

Venus is cruising in the Ligurian Sea, while Lady Moura made its way to Mykonos on Wednesday, based on publicly available tracking data from Marine Traffic.

Videos posted on social media show the strikingly minimalist Venus and the Lady Moura coming into contact. It's not clear from the videos which superyacht struck which, though someone who said they were aboard the Lady Moura seemed to blame Venus' crew on social media, SuperYacht Times reported. The person said the damage was "only a scratch, albeit a significant one that will be costly to repair."

Others on social media said that the Venus appeared to be moored and that Lady Moura seemed to have swung into the boat. BI hasn't been able to independently verify either claim.

The Italian Marina Militare didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider. The owner of the Lady Moura couldn't be reached.

No matter how little damage may have been done, insurance will probably cover it. Yacht insurance , which can cost six figures each month, is one of the largest costs incurred by yacht owners.

Venus, built by the top yacht-builder Feadship, was delivered after Jobs died in 2011 and was worth $130 million upon completion. The Apple cofounder was heavily involved in the design process alongside the French architect and decorator Philippe Starck.

"Venus comes from the philosophy of minimum," Starck said of her design. "The elegance of the minimum, approaching dematerialization."

Jobs and Starck spent four years working on her design, the designer told Vanity Fair , holding monthly meetings to discuss her specifications. She has six identical cabins, was built to maximize absolute silence, and, upon delivery, included the most up-to-date technology.

"There will never again be a boat of that quality again. Because never again will two madmen come together to accomplish such a task," Starck told the magazine. "It was not a yacht that Steve and I were constructing, we were embarked on a philosophical action, implemented according to a quasi-religious process. We formed a single brain with four lobes." On July 12th, the Kruzenshtern  barque and tall ship moored at Svetly, in the vicinity of Kaliningrad  in order to be repaired for some minor damages that she sustained in a collision accident with two Iceland Coast Guard ships in the Reykjavik  port, as commented by the vessel’s owner, Kaliningrad State Technical University.

Ship Repair-Zapad LLC is going to carry out the necessary repairs regarding the STS Kruzenshtern’s damaged bowsprit. Given that the damages are not significant the barque has no need for an overhaul over at a yard.

On June 11th, the Kruzenshtern, the world’s 2nd biggest sailing ship, collided with two Iceland Coast Guard vessels at the Reykjavik port, while departing from the Reykjavik harbor. The collision resulted in the Thor Coast Guard vessel sustaining a hole in the deck which led to her being put out of commission. The other CG boat sustained minor damage to its signal mast.
