There is only one Oyster Professional watch that can be purchased in two sizes: the Rolex Yacht-Master. An immediately recognizable bezel

The Yacht-Master is easily recognizable for its bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel made entirely from precious metal (Everose gold or platinum) or fitted with a black Cerachrom insert in high-technology ceramic. The raised polished graduations and numerals stand out clearly against a matt background. This characteristic and functional bezel – which enables the wearer to read time intervals, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – plays a full part in creating the unique visual identity of the watch.

Exclusive materials

Robust, accurate and perfectly waterproof, the Yacht-Master is one of the only Rolex Professional watches offered in several diameters (37, 40 and 42 mm).

The Yacht-Master 37 and Yacht-Master 40 are available in a Rolesium version (combining Oystersteel and platinum, exclusive to the Yacht-Master range) and in an Everose Rolesor version (combining Oystersteel and Everose gold) with a bezel in precious metal and fitted with an Oyster bracelet. Both models are also offered in 18 ct Everose gold featuring a Cerachrom bezel insert in black ceramic and an Oysterflex bracelet.

The Yacht-Master 42 is available in 18 ct yellow or white gold with an Oysterflex bracelet and in RLX titanium – a particularly lightweight alloy with excellent corrosion-resistance properties and high mechanical strength – with an Oyster bracelet. This version, unveiled in 2023, stands out for its technical satin finish, a finish with a visible grain.

Perpetual calibres 2236 and 3235

Yacht-Master models are equipped with calibre 2236 (Yacht-Master 37) or calibre 3235 (Yacht-Master 40 and Yacht-Master 42), self-winding mechanical movements entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. They offer outstanding performance, particularly in terms of precision, power reserve, convenience and reliability. Both movements’ power reserve extends to approximately 70 hours.

Superlative Chronometer certification

Like all Rolex timepieces, the Yacht-Master is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification. This designation testifies that every watch leaving the brand’s workshops has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories, according to its own criteria. The Superlative Chronometer status is symbolized by a green seal and is coupled with an international five-year guarantee.

Rolex Yacht-Master II Introduction

The Yacht-Master II was released in 2007 with its signature regatta timer complication. It is the younger, bolder sibling of Rolex’s Yacht-Master that debuted in 1992. While the original Yacht-Master displays similarities to the ever-popular Rolex Submariner , the Yacht-Master II is in a class of its own, both visually and mechanically.

Rolex Yacht-Master II History

The Yacht-Master II was purpose-built for competitive sailors. The tool watch’s boldly designed case houses a programmable countdown timer that is controlled by rotating the bezel. Large and attention-grabbing, the Yacht-Master II presents a design aesthetic that pushes the boundaries of what a Rolex can be.

First introduced in 2007, the Yacht-Master II was offered in yellow and white gold variations under references 116688 and 116689, respectively. An Everose gold/steel two-tone Rolesor version (ref. 116681) was added in 2011, followed by the stainless steel reference 116680 two years later. With a case size of 44mm that rises 13.9mm on the wrist, the Yacht-Master II commands attention on the wrist both from owners and observers. The bold bezel houses a platinum- or gold-filled blue Cerachrom ceramic insert with a 10-minute scale above the words “Yacht-Master II.” This was no ordinary bezel, however.

Deemed the “Ring Command” bezel by Rolex, it is directly connected to the watch’s mechanism to program the Yacht-Master II’s 10-minute countdown timer. During the 10-minute interval leading up to the start of a regatta, sailors jockey to position their crafts as close to the starting line as possible. Precision is key since crossing the line early results in a penalty and being too far out puts the boat at an immediate disadvantage. The exclusive Yacht-Master II complication allows a sailor to program the countdown, store it in the mechanism and synchronize to the official race countdown on-the-fly

The Yacht-Master II’s characteristics have been relatively stable since the watch debuted. Its case is free of sharp edges and perfectly cradles the Triplock crown and subtly detailed pushers. The matte white dial offers outstanding legibility for contrasting elements. Hours are marked by luminous rectangular shapes with a triangle marker at 12 o’clock on models produced after 2017. With that refresh, Rolex also updated the straight hour hand with the familiar Mercedes style that appears on other Rolex Professional watches. A small second register at 6 o’clock and the countdown timer indices that arc gracefully from approximately 8 o’clock to 4 o’clock complete the look.

Rolex Yacht-Master II Features

The Yacht-Master II’s power is produced by Rolex’s in-house designed and manufactured calibre 4161 COSC-certified automatic movement. Comprised of roughly 360 individual components, the Cal. 4161 features a 70-hour power reserve, flyback and fly-forward chronograph functionality, anti-magnetism and shock-resistance and, of course, Rolex’s patented 10-minute countdown timer.

The watch is unapologetically large with a 44mm case that measures a massive 57.4mm end-link to end-link. Details include a screw-down case back and protected Triplock crown flanked by delicately etched pushers. The Oyster case is water resistant to 100 meters. The Yacht-Master II’s Oyster bracelet is a classic Rolex three-piece design with polished center links, satin sides and Oysterlock safety clasp. An Easylink extension allows a rapid 5mm adjustment to the bracelet length without the need for tools.

The Yacht-Master II’s color palate and design evoke nautical themes that are inspired by the presence of red and blue accents. In the dark, luminescent Chromalight hands and markers glow with a vibrant blue that lasts up to eight hours. The timer markings, however, do not have lume.

The Yacht-Master II is available in four materials: yellow gold, white gold + platinum, two-tone Rolesor (Everose gold + steel) and steel. All are topped by a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that is surrounded by the Yacht-Master II’s Ring Command bezel in solid platinum or with a blue ceramic insert.

Rolex Yacht-Master II Value and Collectability

The Yacht-Master II is a bit of an outlier in the Rolex family. It is visually imposing and technologically advanced, but Rolex purists opine that it does not deliver the classic Rolex experience of more traditional sports models like the Submariner, Sea-Dweller or Explorer. For collectors and enthusiasts seeking a rare timepiece that stands out from all other Rolex designs, the Yacht-Master II is an excellent choice. Retail prices for new Yacht-Master II models range from approximately $19,000 for steel to nearly $50,000 for the luxe white gold/platinum edition.

Pre-owned Rolex Yacht-Master IIs in gold or platinum with original papers and boxes typically sell well below retail, though prices on used steel versions trend just slightly below new. Many Rolex aficionados consider the Yacht-Master II to be undervalued in the used Rolex marketplace and firmly expect that it will emerge as a highly prized collectors watch.

Watchmaker’s Perspective

The regatta countdown timer function on the Rolex Yacht-Master II is a fascinating feature that gets a lot of attention. And the Caliber 4161 movement used to power the Yacht-Master II is extremely complex, with over 360 parts. But how are those parts made? From the watchmaker's perspective, the manufacturing technology used to create such a complicated movement is especially intriguing.

For the Caliber 4161, Rolex made extensive use of LIGA technology. LIGA is a German acronym meaning Lithographie, Galvanoformung, Abformung (Lithography, Electroplating and Molding). The LIGA process allows parts to be manufactured that would have been nearly impossible with traditional methods, due to their shapes.

The LIGA process is closely related to semiconductor manufacturing and uses similar tools. A patterned mask is used to project UV light onto photosensitive resin at a very high resolution. This creates a micro-mold, which is then used to grow parts inside of. When the metal parts are completely grown, an acid strips away the photosensitive resin, leaving the finished part. This technology is opening up new avenues to watchmakers—one example is the fantastically complex Caliber 4161 in the Rolex Yacht-Master II.

The Yacht-Master’s new Oysterflex bracelet, developed by Rolex and patented, offers a sporty alternative to metal bracelets. The bracelet attaches to the watch case and the Oysterlock safety clasp by a flexible titanium and nickel alloy metal blade.

The blade is overmoulded with high-performance black elastomer which is particularly resistant to environmental effects, very durable and perfectly inert for the wearer of the watch. For enhanced comfort, the inside of the Oysterflex bracelet is equipped with a patented longitudinal cushion system that stabilizes the watch on the wrist and fitted with an 18 ct Everose gold Oysterlock safety clasp. It also features the Rolex Glidelock extension system, designed by the brand and patented. A Sports Agent Went Viral. He Isn’t Ready to Fade Away.

Sean Stellato rocketed to fame through a mix of outlandish clothes, an outsize personality and an embrace of the N.F.L.’s underdogs. He is sticking with what worked.

On a Friday morning in late July, the New York Giants were deep into training camp for the upcoming season, with dozens of athletes hoping to secure one of 53 spots on the team. Across the street, at MetLife Stadium, Sean Stellato swaggered through the largely empty corridors, totally at ease.

Mr. Stellato, a sports agent who represents Tommy DeVito, one of the Giants’ quarterbacks, wore an immaculately tailored light blue, double-breasted pinstripe suit, which he paired with snakeskin Gucci loafers, a gold Rolex Yacht Master II watch, and a smorgasbord of diamond jewelry, including an enormous gold ring, studded with diamonds, commemorating his induction into the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame.

Naturally, Mr. Stellato also wore a fedora — his signature accessory. It was big and crimson, made by Bellissimo. He almost exclusively wears fedoras made by Bellissimo and the Italian company Borsalino, which, he said, manufactures “the Rolex of fedoras.”

He walked up to the stands: Section 109, Row 36, Seat 20. The exact place he had been sitting on Dec. 11, 2023. The day his life changed.

That evening, he had gone to watch his client, an undrafted rookie quarterback, start a nationally televised Monday Night Football game. Mr. DeVito surprised N.F.L. fans everywhere with a late game drive that gave the Giants a victory over the Green Bay Packers, who were favored to win. After a Giants touchdown, television cameras cut to Mr. Stellato, clad in a black suit, gold chain and, of course, a fedora. He was pinching his fingers in a stereotypically Italian American manner, as Mr. DeVito’s father, Tom, planted a kiss on his cheek.

“The agent may break the internet,” one of the ESPN broadcasters said . He was correct.

Mr. Stellato’s client had played the best game of his young career, but social media could not get enough of the hitherto unknown agent. His Italian American-ness was of particular interest. Steven van Zandt, an actor and a member of Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, who portrayed the consigliere Silvio Dante on “The Sopranos,” wrote on X that Mr. Stellato was “the Silvio of the Family.” On “The Tonight Show,” the host Jimmy Fallon dressed up as Mr. Stellato and sang a rendition of Dean Martin’s “That’s Amore” about Mr. DeVito while holding an Italian sub.

Hearing Mr. Stellato speak, one might assume that he is from the New York metropolitan area. One would be wrong. He is from Salem, Mass., and to this day lives in the Boston area. His vibes, nevertheless, are pure New Jersey.

It is the type of story that often flames out quickly, with an internet sensation’s 15 minutes of fame slipping away as quickly as they arrived. But life has yet to slow down for Mr. Stellato. He has continued to be inundated with media requests. He went to the ESPY Awards and the Kentucky Derby. In June, he was invited to Italy to meet the pope. He’s still relentlessly hustling for the 26 current and former N.F.L. players and coaches that his agency, Stellato Sports, represents. Four of those clients signed with him after he came into public view, with Mr. Stellato saying he is unsure of the effect his sudden fame had on landing them. “The Rolodex got enhanced,” he admitted, “on and off the field.”

It has yet to feel normal.

“Just being at the stadium, kind of absorbing the last seven and a half months, it’s almost like a dream that continues to happen,” he said. “It was like a Nor’easter, a hurricane, a tornado, my birthday and Christmas all tied in one.”

He then opened his suit jacket to show its interior lining, a photo collage featuring important moments from his life. The biggest image of all is a screengrab from that Monday Night Football broadcast: Mr. Stellato, in all his fedora glory, standing on the field, talking on the phone; Mr. DeVito standing next to him wearing a Giants hoodie, looking off into the distance.

Mr. Stellato hopped in his Lexus to go across the street to watch Mr. DeVito and another client, the tight end Chris Manhertz, at Giants training camp. Before entering the facility, he traded his fedora for a leather Gucci Yankees cap at the request of Mr. DeVito’s parents, Tom and Alexandra, who, according to Mr. Stellato, asked him not to wear a fedora, in order to keep things “low-key.” When the DeVitos saw Mr. Stellato, fedora-less, at training camp, they greeted him with hugs and warm hellos, and proceeded to take several selfies. (The DeVitos declined to be interviewed for this article.)

For the most part, Mr. Stellato is basking in his newfound notoriety. He seems to enjoy being recognized by strangers, and he always carries around football trading cards to give to children. His fame helped him land a partnership with Hyatt hotels. He said, several times, that he hoped to use his moment in the spotlight to find new opportunities for his clients.

Mr. Stellato originally dreamed of playing professional football himself, spending two years as a wide receiver in the Arena Football League after graduating from Marist College. He eventually went into finance and then became an agent in 2013.

“There’s a lot of great football players that go undrafted, that are underdogs, that never get the exposure,” he said. “My goal has been to service my clients, to build it brick by brick. Over the last 10 years, at Stellato Sports, we’ve been able to do that, and you never know when that moment is going to come. In martial arts, my instructor always used to tell me, ‘Expect the unexpected.’”

His clients seem to, at the very least, get a kick out of the whole thing. “I mean shoot, we used that to monetize on and off the field,” Tommy DeVito said. “And do a lot of good. Like recently, we went to a middle school to some Italian classes, and hung out with some kids.”

Meanwhile Mr. Stellato used his newfound influencer powers to get Mr. Manhertz a free fedora. “He hooked me up with one,” the tight end said. “My wife likes it.”

“Happy wife, happy life,” Mr. Stellato interjected.

A relentlessly positive guy, Mr. Stellato didn’t have much to say about the drawbacks of fame. But he did admit that he found the discourse about his Italian American-ness both funny and kind of offensive. “Reading a book by its cover? Shame on you, man,” he said. “You know Italians, a lot of people stereotype. ‘The Sopranos,’ ‘Goodfellas,’ ‘Donnie Brasco,’ all great movies. But you know, at the end of the day, they don’t know why I wear a fedora or pinstripe suits. It isn’t to play a character.”

(His biggest style influence, he said, is his grandmother, who worked in the men's wear section of the department store Filene’s.)

He has, nevertheless, used the discourse around his Italian-ness to his advantage. While attending the N.F.L. Honors awards show, an interviewer asked Mr. Stellato whom he would trade closets with for a day, if given the chance.

“I said, ‘The pope.’ I think someone got wind of it over in Italy,” he said, which is how he got an invite to travel to the Vatican to meet Pope Francis. “I’ve always admired Vatican City, my heritage, St. Peter’s Square, and the fact that, how the pope anoints a lot of people with a lot of blessings, he always looks prestige.” Mr. Stellato gifted the pope a customized football.

“I got to sit in the presence of Your Holiness and have a conversation with him in basic Italian,” Mr. Stellato said. “I told him, ‘Sono un agente sportivo’ — I am a sports agent, and this is a regalo, a gift for you.”

“And he passed a little wisdom on,” Mr. Stellato added. “He said, ‘You’re glorifying God with your work.’ When we locked eyes, it was almost like a sense of blessings ran through my DNA.”

As the 2024 football season approaches, Mr. Stellato is still working hard for his clients, and even though his fame has helped him and his players sign branding deals, in the National Football League, nothing is guaranteed. (During the interview, Mr. Stellato received a call from someone in the New York Jets front office informing him that one of his clients didn’t make the team.) Through it all, Mr. Stellato still views himself as an underdog. And he likes it that way.

“I’ve always tried to be a source of inspiration for the underdog,” Mr. Stellato said. “I’m very fortunate, very blessed, very grateful to represent really high character, talented, underdog young men that appreciate what I bring to the table.”

That includes hustle, encouragement, positive thinking, and the occasional free fedora.
