The Royal Forth Yacht Club

We are based in Granton Harbour, just ten minutes from Edinburgh's city centre. For our boat owning members we maintain swinging moorings in the harbour and our yard provides winter storage for them. The waters of the Firth of Forth, just outside the harbour entrance, are comparable with any for holding major regattas as well as running a packed club racing programme each season for yachts and dinghies.

The east coast of Scotland is not recognised as highly as it should be as a cruising ground but our members sail the coast north and south and of course northern Europe and the Baltic are only a short hop across the North Sea. The Club is an RYA Recognised Training Establishment and conducts a number of courses throughout the year as well as regular training evenings throughout the season. We also own a number of modern dinghies that are available for our members use.

Bareboat Charter in the Bahamas

Superyacht charter in the bahamas, travel tips:.

  • The Bahamas is relatively hassle-free, with minimal red tape. All travelers, including U.S. citizens, require a passport. Nassau’s Lynden Pindling International Airport implements TSA PreCheck, and Paradise Island facilitates pre-clearance for U.S. Customs and Immigration Services.
  • Private flight options are available through several fixed-base operators (FBO), like Jet Nassau and Odyssey Aviation. For a fee, the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism offers expedited services at the airport when flying commercial or transferring to the FBO from Nassau. You can also fly into George Town, Staniel Cay, Norman’s Cay, or Eleuthera.
  • A daily ferry runs from Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island, approximately three hours, but make sure it makes sense for your charter base location.
  • The Moorings can help organize travel, and brokers can recommend travel arrangements.
  • D’Offay recommends your broker organize transportation to the boat to ensure you get a reliable vehicle and driver. Minimize carrying valuables, check travel advisories, and be aware of your surroundings.

If you plan to moor your yacht on navigable waters in NSW, you must acquire an annual private mooring license. The rules concerning these licenses can be tasking in several ways, but they must be adhered to. Noncompliance with the requirements may result in the termination of your license, which will not be pleasant.

Marina Berths or Mooring Site: What is it?

What exactly is a marina berth.

Marina Berths allow leisure or recreational craft owners to get on and off their vessels. They are frequently designed with modular features to adjust the berth size for different shapes and sizes of recreational vessels.

What exactly is mooring?

Any permanent structure to which a vessel may be fastened is called mooring. Some examples are quays, wharfs, jetties, piers, anchor buoys, and mooring buoys. A ship is moored to prevent it from moving freely on the water.

Find top-quality mooring and marina berth at Corleone Marina.

The Types of Moorings available at NSW

Private moorings.

This type of mooring allows you to anchor your boat in navigable waters as an individual or as a family. Permission to moor privately must be acquired from the landowner or harbor authorities. It is renewed every year. It cannot be transferred. There is no assurance of tenure, and the permit does not constitute a lease of the seabed. The buoy is frequently yellow in color.

Commercial and club moorings

Commercial and club mooring licenses are only provided to businesses that conduct business or provide marine-related services. Commercial moorings are used by businesses such as charter firms for their ships. Boating services can be provided to members of the general public or to a recognized organization, such as a boating club. It is renewed yearly, the same as the private mooring license. Commercial vessels frequently use orange buoys, whereas club vessels use red buoys.

Emergency moorings

It is used in emergencies to retain, store, or keep vessels. To be qualified to moor your boat in an emergency, you must first obtain permission from the appropriate authorities. Blue buoys are used for emergency moorings.

Public or courtesy moorings

This is a temporary mooring, and it is open to the public. The NSW government or the Sydney Harbor Authority is in charge of it. NSW Transport provides free courtesy moorings. This kind enables anybody to temporarily dock boats in popular boating areas. This kind of moorings can be used or occupied without permission; however, an establishment charge may apply. It may also be used by domestic and commercial watercraft; however, it must not be left unattended. Even though it is free, just one vessel may be moored at a courtesy mooring. Pink buoys are used for courtesy or public moorings.

Hybrid environmentally-friendly moorings

This is relatively new and still in the beta phase. It is a type of mooring that is designed to be more environmentally friendly. Currently, four Hybrid-Environmentally Friendly Moorings have been constructed at strategic sites around Shoal Bay. Hopefully, in the future, they’ll be available everywhere.

Facts You Should Know About Mooring Fees:

The cost of mooring varies from location to location, and boat mooring rates are determined by the facility, amongst other factors. The prices of these moorings are determined by various charges. Such charges include license fees, mandatory insurance payments, mooring fees, and additional costs. Maintenance and service expenses are also crucial aspects.

Major factors that influence mooring fees

In general, there are several packages to pick from, each of them differing in price. In addition, the length of the boat and the amount of protection demanded by the boat’s owner are factors. A marina with fewer amenities may be less expensive than one with full-service amenities. Insurance costs are included in the fixed cost of moorings. This is necessary to defend against any unforeseeable occurrences.

Mooring fees are also majorly affected by the cost of engine fuel, the facility’s location, size, and ownership status. A high cost of engine fuel implies a rise in cost and vice versa.

Everything you need to know about private mooring license

A yearly private mooring license permits you to anchor your vessel in navigable waterways. A charge is associated with the application, and your request may be placed on a priority waiting list based on availability.

You must meet the following criteria to qualify for a private mooring license.

  • You must have a boat.
  • Your boat’s registration must be valid
  • You must be the registered owner of the boat to be attached to the mooring

Information and documents you must have for a flawless private mooring license registration.

  • Valid full proof of identity
  • Your bio, including personal and contact details
  • The mooring location
  • A recent photo of the vessel
  • The specifics of your vessel
  • Credit card details for payment

Occupation of the pontoons at any one time is limited to a maximum of two weeks. Specific permission from Edinburgh Marina Ltd is required in advance for periods of occupation which exceed this.

Water is available on the pontoons but craft should use their own connection hose. Pontoon hoses may be used at the discretion of the owner.

There is 24hr CCTV recording on the pontoons.

Visitor Information

Granton is well placed for yachtsmen visiting the Forth as a destination or in passage North or South.  It is one of the few places to stop-over between Blyth and Peterhead. Although it is some 20 miles from the mouth of the Forth it is a good stop-over location to visit Edinburgh.

The Edinburgh Marina Ltd is jointly owned and managed by the Forth Corinthian Yacht Club (FCYC) and the Royal Forth Yacht Club (RFYC).

Unfortunately there are no fuel facilities at Granton for visitors or members due to legal restrictions.

Granton Harbour - (Google Maps) - Click to view full-size image.

There are frequent buses into Edinburgh City Centre (Service 16) and direct to/from Edinburgh International Airport. (Service 200).

The pontoon has water points and hoses but craft should ideally provide their own hose and use of the pontoon hoses is at the owner’s discretion. There is no shore power.

The pontoon benefits from 24hr CCTV monitoring.

Toilet and shower facilities are available at the FCYC club quarters at all hours and also at the RFYC clubhouse while the clubhouse is manned. During the season the RFYC clubhouse is usually open every day during daytime hours.

TO PAY BERTHING FEES :  Visitors should preferably register and pay online at:-

https://theedinburghmarina.co.uk/register-and-pay-online

The security gate code will be given when payment is received.

Alternatively, come into the RFYC club office (09:00 hrs to 13:00 hrs Tuesday to Friday) to register/pay and be given the access number for key-pad access to the clubhouse, which will normally allow entrance during daytime hours.  These hours may vary due to operational reasons.

For those unable to pay by the above methods, there is an Honesty Box situated just inside the EML security gate. Please fill out the boat details on the envelope and deposit, with enclosed payment, in the metal box.

Berthing charge for visitors is £3.00/m LOA (rounded to nearest 0.5m) per night. Access to the pontoon from land is by keypad, with the number available on payment of berthing charge. No stay can be for more than 14 days except by prior arrangement.
