Superyacht Loon

With the ever-expanding portfolio of charter yachts vying for attention, the 221-foot Loon took to social media to showcase its offerings. Not just with a Facebook page of pretty destinations, but with an Instagram account that now has 140,000 followers and a YouTube channel with 122,000 folks who watch its journeys.

The yacht, previously christened  Icon,  splashed in 2010 when it left the Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts. Purchased in 2023 by owners who named the yacht after their lakehouse residents, the loon bird, it is now widely recognized on the charter scene, thanks partly to its social-media presence but mostly because of its eclectic crew.

Captain Paul Clarke, who has been with the owner since 2017 and created the social-media frenzy, made his way from the vessel’s smaller siblings to helm this third generation of yachts named Loon. An overflowing toy box and tenders that include a wake-surfing boat, as well as an inventory of all the top brands, have made this an exceptional charter vessel, with IYC being the primary brokers.

The yacht’s timeless lines and contemporary features are a testament to RWD Design’s forward-thinking philosophy. “ Loon has many features which are only now being incorporated into today’s yachts,” Clarke told Robb Report.

Here are 10 cool facts about this social superyacht.

An impressive catalog of toys is a given on any reputable charter yacht, but Loon ‘s toy trove is a cut above the rest. “Those who have the most toys win—this has always been our mantra,” says Capt. Paul Clarke. “For instance, most yachts have two Jet Skis, we have four. We apply that philosophy across the toy spectrum.” It is a thrill-a-minute onboard with Seabobs, wakeboards, scuba equipment, foils, and more towables and inflatables than one can get on in a week. Loon is regularly asked to test toys before they hit the market. “We always get pre-release toys to demo. We were also the first superyacht to carry Lift foils,” adds Clarke.

A Singing, Dancing Crew

yacht charter loon

The linchpin holding a great charter together is the crew. But Loon raises the bar with its onboard team, who are born entertainers. Besides their regular duties, crewmembers double as a scuba instructor, a masseuse, a pro kitesurfer, a personal trainer, a yoga instructor, and even a DJ. The chief engineer provides an added layer of charm with his guitar skills for evening soirees. “I always hire crew who have secondary skills,” says Clarke.

The Influencer

yacht charter loon

If it isn’t on social media, did it even happen? Clarke started Loon ‘s social accounts back in the day to share the wealth of content he gathered from shooting videos of guests. Today, Loon has a crew member whose sole job is to create content with “equipment in hand 24/7.” This person, using drones and an occasional helicopter, creates charter memories with videography, photography, and other content-creation skills. Clarke says Loon is the only superyacht to have this dedicated position. The strategy has paid off. The vessel has 143,000 Instagram followers and 121,000 YouTube subscribers tuning in to watch its every move.

Loon-Inspired Inflatables

yacht charter loon

Aside from the yacht’s signature beach club, Loon literally expands for on-the-water playtime. In fact, the yacht is more than a consumer of water toys. It’s an influencer. Inflatable manufacturer FunAir developed its Beach Club Sea Pool, the first-of-its-kind inflatable Yacht Slide (with a stylish carbon-fiber finish) specifically for this yacht. This section serves as a bumper point for toys and launchpad for Jet Skis. The netted surroundings also protect swimmers from currents and jellyfish.

Looney Activities

yacht charter loon

Loon’ s activities regularly catch the eyes of onlookers. The vessel’s G23 Nautique is ideal for wake surfing. However, when chartering, the professional poker player and influencer Dan Bilzerian decided to take water stunts up a notch or two and wake-surf behind the yacht itself. While Loon regularly has “tons of A-listers” on board doing epic things, stunts are also for the crew. For its Instagram feed, the crew have leaped over the bow dressed as Thanksgiving turkeys and pulled off impressive kitesurfing jumps. The next booked charter will include magicians, helicopters, fire breathers, and a renowned DJ. “We try to make it extraordinary no matter who the guest is,” says Clarke.

The Honey Bees

yacht charter loon

Teaming up with the biodynamic honey producers at Hikian in southern Finland, Loon has adopted its own beehive and features the honey in its cuisine. The buzz around this premium honey is that the bees thrive in the unspoiled air of the Finnish forest. As well as the flavor, the honey also accompanies the chef’s creations.

Crypto Charters

yacht charter loon

Two years ago, the former Loon was the first superyacht to accept charter fees in cryptocurrency. Fast forward to now, the current Loon continues to accept Bitcoin for bookings. Embracing crypto transactions is not just another form of payment but also a nod to a younger yachting clientele.

Involved in Rescue Missions

yacht charter loon

This Caribbean charter season has already seen Loon involved in two successful search-and-rescue missions. The first was retrieving an overturned fishing boat at the request of the U.S. Coast Guard. Just before Christmas, Loon also responded to another search and rescue that came from a couple scuba diving in the Dog Islands. Clarke sent the tender ahead to locate the missing woman who had been swept out. “It could have ended much worse if the rescue hadn’t come together so quickly,” he says.

The Main Suite Built Around the Bathtub

yacht charter loon

The interior styling by Studio Linse is inviting across all seven cabins, but the one that really catches the eye is the full-beam primary suite. With neutral and contemporary aesthetics, it is located on the main deck, where large windows flood the space with natural light. But the spotlight really shines on the impressive three-ton stone bathtub in the ensuite. It had to be installed before the deck was put on—a true commitment to a relaxing soak.

Well Connected

yacht charter loon

Loon keeps everyone connected wherever it is anchored by remaining fully hooked up to the onboard Starlink system. Besides fast Wi-Fi for work or socializing, entertainment demands are also met, thanks to the fully integrated Apple TV system, delivering every kind of movie on the yacht’s big screens. The electronic bells and whistles continue in the bridge, which recently saw upgrades to the 26-inch touchscreen panels that control all elements of the yacht.

Paul Clarke

Growing up in Australia and Bermuda Paul spent most of his youth on the water sailing competitively taking part in some of the biggest sailing regattas in the world. In 2002 Paul joined the yachting industry as a Bosun on a 50m Perini Navi sailing yacht and decided yachting is where he wanted to be. When Paul isn’t at work he is still out on the water Spearfishing.

Charter in Croatia

Top Reasons to Charter in Croatia on Your Motor Yacht Itinerary

One of Motor Yacht Loon’s favourite Mediterranean yacht charter destinations is Croatia. Think turquoise waters perfect for any watersport, empty anchorages for days across thousands of islands, and rich cultural heritage wherever you turn. Spanning the Adriatic and hosting the Dalmatian archipelago from Dubrovnik to Split, a charter in Croatia offers stunning cruising grounds and incredible yachting experiences. Whether looking for shallow waters to splash into and under, exploring UNESCO sites ashore, or simply soaking up the Croatian rays onboard, a yacht charter with Yacht Loon in Croatia is a must.

Here are some top reasons why you should opt for a yacht charter in Croatia:

Endless Anchorages

Motor Yacht Loon anchored in blue sea in Croatia

Croatia’s coastline boasts over 1,000 islands, providing an array of anchorage options that surpass many popular Mediterranean destinations. Unlike the iconic French Riviera or the ever-popular Amalfi Coast, Croatia’s waters provide superyachts with utmost privacy and isolation. Captain Paul will take you to the best spots in Croatia, from secluded coves to sheltered bays, allowing you to enjoy these stunning waters in solitude. Solta is one of the many islands with a vast array of pristine bays in which to anchor. Meanwhile, the Palenki Islands off the coast of Hvar offer deserted beaches and blue lagoons. Between Hvar and Korcula is Loviste Bay, another of Loon’s favourites. This small bay hosts plenty of calm spots with mirror-still waters, with Runci Bay being the most popular. Thanks to the plentiful and quieter anchorage spots throughout Croatia, cruising plans can also be more flexible when on a yacht charter here to suit spontaneity.

Water-based Fun

Charter superyacht Loon with her water toys collection in Croatia

Motor Yacht Loon has an overflowing toy box ready for fun-filled charters packed with an impressive inventory of watersports equipment. From FunAir inflatables to Lift E-foils and Scuba Pro diving equipment, there is something for everyone to enjoy on a charter in Croatia. The clarity of the Adriatic makes it a perfect spot for snorkelling and diving. With so many underwater spots to explore, Captain Paul can guide you to the best spots full of ancient shipwrecks and vibrant marine life. For those who enjoy fun above the water, the crew onboard Yacht Loon can create a great inflatable setup when the yacht is tied to the rocks in a private and idyllic anchorage, giving you the ultimate privacy and platform for fun. Just south of the Kornati archipelago is Mjlet, one of Croatia’s hidden gems; the unique tidal lakes here are perfect for paddleboarding or kayaking. Meanwhile, the island of Brac is one of the best places to get tips and lessons from Loon’s professional and experienced kitesurfing crew. Take one of the Cabrinha kites out for a spin while enjoying the picturesque scenery.

Preserved History

Superyacht Loon passing the ancient walls of Dubrovnik during a charter vacation in Croatia

Steeped in history, with influences from Roman, Venetian and Austrian civilisations evident in architecture and culture, Croatia has a rich past to explore. Each island and town has a unique blend of history and culture, from winding cobblestone streets and terracotta roofs to medieval churches, ancient ruins and walled towns. Such history is well preserved here, with over ten UNESCO World Heritage sites, many of which are accessible by Yacht Loon and its tenders. Often hailed as the ‘pearl of the Adriatic’, Dubrovnik is one of the most famous preserved cities. The medieval walled UNESCO-labelled city has plenty of historical sites, such as its city walls and Rectors Palace. Back in the present day, it was also the location of the filming of the popular Games of Thrones series. Another of the best-preserved towns in the Adriatic is just west of Split, the UNESCO site of Trogir. Explore the old town, wandering between the large concentration of old churches. When cruising the islands, Korcula – rumoured to be Marco Polo’s birthplace – is full of history, especially in Vela Luka, one of Europe’s most prehistoric archaeological locations.

Charming Culture

Dubrovnik Cathedral visited by charter guests from Motor Yacht Loon

The country’s history is intertwined with its rich cultural heritage. A Croatian yacht charter itinerary onboard Yacht Loon can include various activities and spots that immerse you in Croatian culture. Plenty of concerts, festivals and cultural events spanning the mainland and islands. Split, Dubrovnik and Hvar all host summer festivals with traditional performances with local and international artists performing. The Mediterranean Film Festival is also held in the country’s second-largest city, Split. Aside from events, delve into the traditional and regional cuisine specialities such as black risotto (crni rižot), the fish stew of Hvar (gregada), air-dried ham (pršut), or anything that has come from cooking traditionally under a dome-shaped lid. While cruising the various areas, the Loon crew can arrange visits to artisanal producers where you can experience the cultural traditions that have shaped the country.

Natural Beauty

The outstanding natural beauty of Croatia during a superyacht charter on Yacht Loon

The scenes stretching Croatia’s coastline are undeniably breathtaking. Jagged coastlines, rocky outcrops, and lush green islands create the most stunning backdrop for your charter onboard Motor Yacht Loon. It is hard to pick Loon’s favourite spots when cruising Croatia, as everywhere you cruise and anchor, you will be treated with picture-postcard views. The national parks are a particular highlight of a charter experience. The remote island of Lastavo is one of the best; here, you can enjoy untouched spots with incredible diving sites. Further north, the Kornati archipelago, which comprises over 140 mostly uninhabited islands, forms one of the national parks to explore, with some of the best diving spots here. National Park Krka is another spectacular area to cruise, with the charming coastal town of Skradin, the gateway to a park packed with impressive waterfalls. On the theme of waterfalls, Plitvice Lakes National Park is home to terraced lakes with waterfalls as tall as 78 metres. The beauty here isn’t just in the form of national parks but also beaches; Zlatni Rat on the island of Brac is one the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean. Further south is the island of Vis, another Loon hotspot. Its lush landscape is peppered with vineyards, hidden beaches, caves, and wildlands.

Vibrant Yachting Lifestyle

Motor Yacht Loon in a harbour in Croatia

While you can easily get off the beaten track in Croatia, it also hosts a vibrant yachting scene full of high-end restaurants, beach clubs, and bars. The iconic Carpe Diem Beach Club in Hvar epitomises the island’s partying side, perfectly balancing days spent in tranquil anchorages. Many coastal towns are home to some excellent restaurants, allowing you to sample the best local cuisine and wines. Dubrovnik is home to some of the best, such as Proto Restaurant, which serves traditional fare with a modern twist. Konoba Kod Joze, located in Split’s old town, is another place to enjoy the freshest seafood dishes. The southern coast of Korcula has a great Michelin-starred spot, LD Restaurant, featuring a wine list of Croatian wines. If you want to spend a night in a marina, Croatia isn’t without its top-rated superyacht facilities, with a selection of IGY and D-Marin marinas in various locations.

Chartering Motor Yacht Loon in Croatia offers an unparalleled opportunity to explore one of the Mediterranean’s most beautiful and diverse coastline and islands. The 68m superyacht LOON (ex LOON 221, ICON, ICON 62) is a custom-built charter yacht, originally launched by the prominent Dutch shipyard Icon Yachts in 2009. She undertook a five-meter transom extension to an overall length of 68 meters in 2014, performed by her home yard, in partnership with Evan K. Marshall. Accommodation is provided for a total of 12 charter guests in 7 staterooms. Her latest refit was in 2020.

NOTABLE FEATURES OF LOON 221: ~ Massive volume ~ Modern on-the-ocean living ~ Exquisite interior decor ~ Glass-bottomed infinity pool ~ Hammam ~ Sauna ~ Gym ~ Beach Club ~ Jacuzzi ~ Massage & beauty therapists ~ Amazing water toys

LOON 221 yacht's interior styling is done by Redman Whiteley Dixon, with the interior design being a work of the renowned Studio Linse. The decor is timeless, elegant and neutral. A sumptuous salon lounge on the main deck offers plush seating, set in a social atmosphere surrounding a large coffee table and the latest in entertainment; further aft is the formal dining easily accompanying up to 10 guests. She boasts panoramic windows which provide great natural light and stunning views from the salon and dining area. Soft lighting and bespoke finishes create a sophisticated feel, perfect for every occasion. On the main deck forward is the master stateroom, boasting a full beam layout, king-size bed, easy access to the upper observation lounge and study and a large ensuite with a luxurious custom tub. The master cabin benefits from spectacular views, excellent storage and exterior access on both port and starboard, leading to the upper foredeck, featuring seating and sun pads.

Her upper deck comprises a sky lounge, complete with sofas, a beautiful leather ottoman and full entertainment systems. The VIP guest cabin is located on the upper deck forward of the sky lounge to starboard and features a generous shower room. On the lower deck are two double cabins, as well as two twin cabins, all ensuite. ICON has a fabulous beach club thanks to the extension she received; it includes a gym, hammam, sauna, wet bar, lounge, bathroom with shower, dive centre, exterior sunloungers on the teak beach and direct access to the four lower deck cabins.

On deck guests will find there are plenty of areas to relax, entertain and be social, no matter the occasion. Her expansive teak beach and beach club, based on the lower deck, features an extended swim area, sun loungers, lounge, hammam, sauna, wet bar, and shower, it is the ideal area for incredible fun during the day, enjoying the multitude of water toys. On the main deck, aft of the salon is large exterior aft deck, which features an alfresco dining area, sun pads, and large swimming pool. The upper deck has ample outside seating and a further alfresco dining table. Her top deck boasts additional sun pads, seating, and deluxe Jacuzzi tub.

The owner’s suite has a private flight of stairs with direct access to an owner’s salon, which can be kept private or opened up to guests. The architecture of the outside areas of the yacht helps give the exterior its “definitive proportions.” Dramatically staged overhangs with raked superstructure were carefully balanced in profile against the interior volumes, giving the yacht huge amounts of living area for its size. The interior styling features modern furnishing in soft tones for the relaxed and inviting atmosphere.

Thanks to the advanced technology used in the construction of the yacht, she can provide smooth cruising experience in any conditions, while stabilizers reduce roll motion and for ultimate comfort.

Superyacht LOON 221 is the first Icon Yachts vessel ever launched by the shipyard. She boasts a very graceful steel hull built with an aluminium superstructure. Her beam measures 11.40 meters and her draft is of 3.50 meters. She reaches a maximum speed of 16 knots, thanks to her twin MTU engines. A cruising speed is 12 knots with an impressive range of 6,000 nautical miles. The capacity of her fuel tanks is of 160,000 litres.

"One of the most important elements for us at RWD is the personal relationships that we forge with our clients. It is also critical to us to ensure that designing and creating with that RWD partnership is a very, very enjoyable journey. So when visiting our unique studio, this might mean helicoptering in to stay in one of England's very best Country house spa hotels, the nearby Lime Wood, and perhaps enjoying riding in the New Forest, fly-fishing on one of the best chalk streams in the South, all things frankly which have nothing to do with yacht design, but add to the memories of the creation of that yacht. The more pleasurable we can make the whole design experience, the more valuable the journey is." - British superyacht designers Redman Whiteley Dixon.

SKYFALL is currently for sale for an asking price of $29.5m

Superyacht SKYFALL is as iconic as the James Bond movie it shares its name with. Owned by an American real estate developer, the 190-foot motor yacht features a distinctive silhouette and a boatload of stand-out amenities including a panoramic sky lounge, a split-level owner’s cabin and a helipad that converts into a basketball court. As well as being highly appealing to owners, she’s a successful charter yacht that’s renowned for her ability to entertain.

SKYFALL was built by American luxury motor yacht builder Trinity Yachts in 2010 for the shipyard’s owner. “SKYFALL is the most exquisite superyacht ever delivered by Trinity Yachts and is a shining example of American craftsmanship and pride,” says Frank Grzeszczak Sr of FGI Yacht Group. “In a market where yachts of her size are rarely this versatile, SKYFALL stands out as a unique offering. With a Bahamas-friendly draft, aluminum construction, speeds exceeding 20 knots, a flexible seven-cabin layout—including a bi-level primary suite—and expansive lounges, SKYFALL sets herself apart from others in her class.”

The current owner bought her in 2018 from an American automobile tycoon and completed a full refit in 2020, including elegant, timeless interiors by designers Patrick Knowles and Even Marshall. Now, as the owner builds a new, larger, 270-foot yacht with an Italian shipyard, they’ve reluctantly put SKYFALL up for sale.

As SKYFALL enters the market with FGI , the owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, gives Forbes an exclusive look at life onboard the yacht and reveals his favorite experiences and spaces, as well as his top tips for superyacht ownership.

Trump Vs. Harris 2024 Polls: Harris Leads By 6 Points In Latest Likely Voter Survey

Viral ‘chase bank glitch’ isn’t the hack people thought it was, ‘strap in’—fed suddenly braced for a u.s. dollar ‘crisis’ that’s predicted to spark ‘total collapse’ and a ‘critical’ bitcoin price ‘tipping point’.

What initially captivated you about SKYFALL?

Owner: SKYFALL is an iconic yacht. She really has the best of all worlds. She has semi displacement which means she is fast and efficient. She also has a shallow draft that allows her to get into anchorages or ports that other similar sized boats can’t even try to get into. In the Bahamas, for example, it is typical for SKYFALL to be anchored close to shore while other 60-meter (190-foot) boats are a mile or more offshore.

What are your favourite memories onboard SKYFALL?

We have had a lot of fun with family and friends on SKYFALL. The list of great memories onboard is quite long. The bridge deck outdoor dining table is where we always try to have meals unless the weather is very bad. We have had a lot of great discussions with family and friends around that table that will last a lifetime. We also like that the sundeck that has two hot tubs with plenty of space, which is where we have pre-dinner canapes every night while we watch the sun set wherever we might be.

One thing that often grabs people’s attention is the basketball goal that also is a helideck on the sundeck. We have had a lot of competitive games of basketball on sundeck, sometimes with a number of spectators watching from afar.

The top deck of SKYFALL features a basketball court, helipad, pool, hot tub and dining area

What is your favourite space onboard?

The sky lounge is group favorite. It has twin 80-inch TVs, so there isn’t a bad place in the sky lounge to view a game.

Please talk us through the owner’s cabin and how you designed it to suit your lifestyle.

The owner’s cabin on SKYFALL is exactly what we wanted on a boat. The master bed faces the bow with large windows which means we get to wake up every morning to an amazing view. The sitting area is perfect for getting a break from guests when we just need some time to ourselves. The suite also has ‘His and Hers’ separate baths and closets, which is a requirement for us. My wife and I always say that the key to a long and happy marriage is separate bathrooms and closets.

The office in the master suite is a welcome retreat for me so I can get work done privately without being disturbed, and more importantly, without waking up my wife.

A cabin onboard SKYFALL superyacht

Where are your favourite places to visit around the world?

It has always been non-negotiable for our family that we spend New Year’s together in Saint Bart’s on the boat. In early spring, she spends a few weeks in the Bahamas, and then typically we send her over to the Med for the summer season. She then comes back for a quick yard period in the fall, does the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, and then makes her way back to the Caribbean.

What makes SKYFALL such a successful charter yacht?

The feedback from charter guests has been that this is a great multi-generational boat. We have all the fun toys for kids, and lots of relaxing spaces for adults. Three generations in a family can travel together and have a great trip for different reasons. With the multitude of large beds, it is also a great boat for several couples to travel together.

Interiors are elegant and timeless

What first inspired you to become a yacht owner?

Our family had been chartering yachts for about 12 years. More and more we found ourselves wanting to spend time on the water. We had been loosely talking about buying a yacht when we started attending the annual Fort Lauderdale Boat Show. I’m not an impulse buyer, but when we found a boat that we thought would work for our lifestyle, we knew (or rather, my wife knew) that was the boat for us.

What does yacht ownership give you that villa or a hotel ownership couldn’t?

We often talk about how owning a yacht allows you to basically have a home nearly anywhere in the world. We like new places, and we like to explore, but we like to have a familiar home base to come back to at the end of a long day. A yacht gives you the advantage of being in the Med in the summer and the Caribbean in the winter sleeping in the same bed every night.

Guests can enjoy indoor and outdoor dining areas

Why have you decided to put SKYFALL on the sales market – and why now?

We are building a new boat, and it is time to let this one go. We are sad to part with her, but we hope she will find a new family that will create many new memories on her as we have.

What would be your biggest piece of advice to the next owner of SKYFALL?

Have fun with her. That’s what she is for. This boat loves to be used so if you have a destination in mind, she’s ready to go.

The decks have plenty of space for entertainment and relaxation

Want to be the new owner of SKYFALL? Here’s how

SKYFALL is currently for sale for an asking price of $29,500,000. Interested parties should contact the broker, Frank Grzeszczak Sr, Founder & President at FGI Yacht Group , who says: “Simply put, SKYFALL is the finest American superyacht available today. The price has recently been adjusted to $29,500,000, reflecting the seller's commitment to securing a fair price for this extraordinary vessel.”
