First unveiled in autumn 2022, the 146.35m mega yacht OPERA was built in Germany by the renowned luxury yacht builder Lurssen and represents one of the largest yachts on the water today. Both the exterior lines and the interior of this impressive vessel were designed by well-known Terence Disdale Design studio while her naval architecture is by the yard’s professional in-house team of architects.

As yachts of this calibre are always extremely secretive, there have been very few details unveiled about OPERA. Judging by the photographs, we can tell that some of her main features include massive deck spaces, both in and out, two helipads, at least two swimming pools, numerous dining and lounging areas on various decks and a huge beach platform at transom. She is expected to have a large variety of water toys, including tenders, jet skis, inflatable toys and much, much more.

At this stage, it is unknown whether she will ever be available for charter, however, she would certainly satisfy even the most discerning of guests, with a great equipage of crew at service 24/7.

OPERA runs on a diesel-electric propulsion system and is characterised by contemporary exterior lines and an extravagant interior, both the work of Terence Disdale Design. OPERA has a 21.5-metre beam and offers palatial space for the owner and guests across all decks. Her launch was commemorated with a performance of Puccini´s "Chi il bel sogno", by the soprano Elizabeth Winn.

I tied myself in knots with Inception , so I’ll keep plot to the minimum and do my best to avoid spoilers. Director Christopher Nolan drip feeds information on a strictly need-to-know basis – even the protagonist ( John David Washington ) is only ever known as The Protagonist, so we have no idea for the reason behind the raid on a concert at ‘Kiev Opera House’ which opens the movie.

A lot of the film, including this sequence, was shot in Tallinn , a port on the Baltic Sea and the capital of Estonia .

The concert hall is Linnahall , Kalasadama 4 , a sprawling venue built for the 1980 Moscow Olympics on the coast of Tallinn Bay, back in the days when Estonia was part of the former Soviet Union.

The hall had stood derelict for about 10 years and was in a sorry state of disrepair, with damage to the seats, carpeting and even the structural concrete – not to mention the graffiti.

It was given a thorough renovation for the film, which even included getting the defunct lighting system to work again. It’ll be interesting to see if it gets a new lease of life as a live venue.

Following the raid, the Protagonist (how about we just call him Pro?) finds himself captured and being tortured in the middle of a freight rail yard. Remaining in Tallinn , the railyard is at Telliskivi Creative City , developed in a former industrial complex on the border of Tallinn ’s Old Town and the Kalamaja District .

All seems lost, but the suicide pill on which he bites down turns out to be fake and Pro wakes up aboard a ship in the middle of an offshore wind farm to discover that the ordeal has proved his mettle to be recruited for a sensitive and highly secret job.

The turbine is which he's temporarily housed is part of Nysted Wind Farm , close to the Rodsand Sand Bank , south of Lolland , fourth largest of the Danish Islands, in the Baltic Sea .

He's eventually picked up and put ashore in 'Denmark' – actually Muuga Harbour , east of Tallinn .

From here, Pro is whisked away by car to the 'Wermuth-Bygningen Building', where he's introduced to the brain-twisting concept of 'time reversed' bullets by scientist Barbara ( Clémence Poésy ). Although the wind farm was in Denmark , this is Tallinn . The institute was Liivalaia Courthouse, Liivalaia 24 , in the Veerenni district, south of the city centre. Although it only opened in 1987, the court moved out in 2018 and the building is currently disused.

Pro's mission is to discover the origin of these strange bullets, the very existence of which has terrifying ramifications.

The metallic composition of the bullets suggests India , which points to a notorious arms dealer in Mumbai . Arriving in the city, Pro calls up his local contact from outside Cafe Mondegar , Metro House, Shahid Bhagat Singh Road , on Colaba Causeway .

This fascinating Mumbai institution was opened as a cafe by Iranian Zoroastrians in 1932. In the Fifties, it became the first place Mumbai to get a jukebox and nowadays is famous for its retro vibe and its murals by cartoonist Mario Miranda . Obviously a place not to be missed if you’re visiting Mumbai .

He meets up with his rather louche contact, Neil ( Robert Pattinson ), in the Royal Bombay Yacht Club , a private club at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg , near the famous Gateway of India, Colaba . Opened in 1881, it’s a remnant of the British Raj and, astonishingly, it wasn't until 1958 that Indians were admitted. The club remains members-only.

Ingenuity is required to get into the impregnable penthouse of the dealer, Priya ( Dimple Kapadia ), which is atop Neelam Shree Vardhan Tower on Bhulabhai Desai Road (formerly the old Warden Road ) in Oomer Park , in an area called Breach Candy – a newly-developed up-market residential and commercial locality in South Mumbai .

It turns out the bullets were 'reversed' only after they had ended up in the hands of a powerful Russian oligarch called Sator, who can somehow connect with the future.

Needing to get to Sator, Pro turns to British Intelligence, meeting agent Crosby ( Michael Caine ) in a posh gentleman’s club in London . This is our old friend, the Reform Club , 104 Pall Mall , Westminster , London SW1 – and for once we even get a brief glimpse of the exterior.

The Reform , another private club, not open to the public, has featured in two Bond movies – Die Another Day (as ‘Blades’ club) and Quantum of Solace (as a government office). It’s also seen in 2014’s Paddington , Guy Ritchie ’s 2009 revamp of Sherlock Holmes , as the lobby of the 'Dolphin Hotel, New York' in the 2007 film of Stephen King 's 1408 , the 2001 remake of The Four Feathers with Heath Ledger , the 1998 big screen version of TV's The Avengers , Lindsay Anderson ’s anarchic O Lucky Man! and Roger Donaldson ’s The Bounty .

Here, Crosby reveals that Sator ( Kenneth Branagh ) can be approached through his partner Kat ( Elizabeth Debicki ) over some business regarding a forged Goya at ‘Shipley’s Auction House’ – which turns out to be another regular London location.

The ‘auction house’ is yet another members' club, the National Liberal Club, 1 Whitehall Court , previously seen in David Lynch ’s The Elephant Man , Russell Mulcahy ’s Highlander , Terry Gilliam ’s Brazil and Danny Boyle ’s Trance among other productions. It also supplied the exterior of the London entrance to the 'Sanctum Sanctorum' in 2016’s Doctor Strange .

'Cannon Hall School', where Pro scopes out Kat as she meets her son Max, has its own fascinating history. It's not a school – but it is Cannon Hall, 14 Cannon Place at Squire’s Mount , tucked away off East Heath Road, in leafy Hampstead NW3 .

The mansion was once the home of actor-manager Gerald du Maurier – father of Daphne du Maurier , author of Rebecca , Jamaica Inn , The Birds and Don’t Look Now . It previously appeared on-screen as the home of Keir Dullea in Otto Preminger ’s 1965 underrated dark comedy-thriller Bunny Lake Is Missing .

The smart restaurant in which Pro gets to meet Sator, and ends up making good use of a cheese grater as he fends off his goons in the kitchen, is Locanda Locatelli ,  8 Seymour Street, W1 , just a block north of Marble Arch in London 's West End .

Kat is driven away from the kitchen's entrance on Berkeley Mews as the Protagonist emerges victorious.

The upscale Italian eatery was previously featured in Woody Allen 's 2005 London based drama Match Point .

Pro believes he can break Sator's hold over Kat by getting rid of the disputed Goya, which is stored in a preposterously well-protected storage facility in Oslo , Norway .

When Neil bullshits his way into being given a tour of the ‘Oslo Freeport’ facility, its lobby turns out to be the Kumu Art Museum , A. Weizenbergi 34 at Valge, in Kadriorg Park back in Tallinn .

Surprisingly, since the production seems to be based in Europe, ‘Oslo Airport’, where Neil passes his info to Pro turns out to be the Connector between the International Terminal and Terminal 4 of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) , 1 World Way , Los Angeles . Perhaps there's more of California to come?

We're soon, though, onto the real Oslo . The vast, white expanse of marble and granite where Pro explains to Neil the enormity of their undertaking is the roof of Oslo Opera House , Kirsten Flagstads Plass 1 , in the Bjørvika neighbourhood of central Oslo . Yes, the roof is accessible – it slopes gently up from ground level, creating a large plaza from which you too can enjoy panoramic views of the city.

Staying in Norway , Pro and Neil float the extreme notion of crashing a 747 into the Freeport with Mahir ( Himesh Patel ) as the meet up at Tjuvholmen allé , in Tjuvholmen , an artsy neighborhood of Oslo recently developed from dry docks housed on a peninsula jutting out from Aker Brygge into the Oslofjord .

Once a haven for smugglers and thieves, Tjuvholmen roughly translates as ‘thief islet’ and the waterfront hotel where the three formulate their ambitious plan is The Thief Hotel , Salmakersvenn Marius Jantzens plass 3 , a smart boutique hotel opened in 2015.

The spectacular 747 crash itself was filmed in California . As we all now know, rather than use CGI or models, the sequence was staged for real with a decommissioned 747. The location is Southern California Logistics Airport , 18374 Phantom Way , in Victorville , in the High Desert about 85 miles northeast of LA .

It happens that SCLA is home to a 240-acre 'boneyard' storage facility, with enough space to store more than 500 disused planes. It currently has about 275 in storage, so it's a good place to rent a spare. The dry desert environment is perfect for the long-term preservation of aircraft, but slightly more problematic to pass off as Oslo in the long shots.

Like the Tallinn concert house, the 747 had to be restored before it could be destroyed. The plane couldn’t move under its own power and had to be towed, but the brakes and steering still needed to be in full working order. The sheer weight and physical presence of the jumbo jet more than justifies the gamble.

The airport has previously been seen in Face/Off , Jarhead and The Sum of All Fears among other productions. There are no organised tours but, if you're fascinated by planes, you can drive through some of the streets and roads at SCLA , though most business and industry areas are restricted.

The debriefing for Pro and Neil following the fight at the Freeport is Estonia again, in the Hilton Tallinn Park , Fr R. Kreutzwaldi 23 , on the eastern side of the quiet, and recently renovated, Politseiaed Park .

And then it's briefly back to Mumbai , where Priya breaks to Pro the unwelcome news that Sator must not be killed, as they stroll by the Gateway of India , south of the city toward Colaba .

Another throwback to the days of Empire, now a major tourist attraction, the ceremonial gate was built to commemorate the 1911 visit of King George V , the first British monarch to set foot in India .

By now, we're happy to accept that the breathtaking terrace atop a vertiginous cliff where The Protagonist meets with Kat is real – and it is.

This is the Infinity Terrace at the Villa Cimbrone , Via Santa Chiara, 26 in Ravello on the Amalfi Coast , south of Naples in Italy .

You might have seen the same terrace appearing as the 'Themyscira' in Patty Jenkins ' 2017 Wonder Woman , but fans of older movies will recognise it as Humphrey Bogart 's villa in John Huston 's 1953 Beat The Devil .

We stay in Ravello as Pro gets to meet the terrifying Sator over a terribly civilised dinner at the terrace of the five-star Belmond Hotel Caruso , Piazza San Givanni del Toro .

Sator’s luxury yacht, aboard which he spends most of his time, is the Planet Nine , and it is a for-real super-yacht, measuring over 240 feet long with six decks. It does have its own helicopter pad, though not one which could have accommodated the ‘copter seen in the film (an expert pilot was needed to hover very slightly above the pad to give the illusion of having touched down).

The race between F50 foiling catamarans, when Pro unexpectedly saves the life of Sator, is another sequence which could have been faked with digital effects but was staged for real.

The coastal town seen is Amalfi itself, but notice how the picturesque seafront and mountains suddenly disappear once the race gets underway. The boats were handled by the UK SailGP team, who happened to be just off the coast of Southampton , Hampshire in southern England .

Having made a deal with Sator, Pro walks with Neil along Pärnu maantee (Parnu Highway) by Argentiina Restaurant at Haridue, in Tallinn , as they plan a spectacular robbery to lift plutonium from an armoured truck in the centre of the city .

And Pärnu maantee is where the spectacular set-piece heist begins, with Pro and Neil following in a car south as the targetted truck is gradually boxed in. The eye-popping fireworks really start as the chase continues along Laagna Tee , the main highway running east from Tallinn city centre to the Lasnamäe district, and time reversal comes into play.

The bridge across Laagna Tee with the two stairways, where the car flips over, is Saarepiiga sild ( Island Bridge ).

After all the chaos, Pro and Kat are bundled off to the 'Tallinn Freeport', where Sator has another of his storage facilities and another of his 'time reversing' turnstiles. The 'Freeport' is Port Paljassaare , northwest of Tallinn , but the interior is the industrial building at Suur-Paala 13 , in Ülemiste , to the east of the city.

As Sator races off to find his missing 'plutonium', Pro has another chat with Priya. Supposedly in 'Oslo', the park where they walk is Maarjamäe World War Two Memorial , Pirita Tee 74 , a couple of miles northeast of central Tallinn . It's a memorial to the victims of the Soviet regime.

Priya gives up one more piece of vital info which leads Pro, Neil and others to the climactic ‘temporal pincer’ attack on the abandoned city of 'Stalask 12' in ’Siberia'.

This was filmed on three separate locations. The exterior is Eagle Mountain in California , a modern-day ghost town in the desert on the southeastern corner of Joshua Tree National Park , about 180 miles east of LA .

Founded in 1948 by industrialist Henry J Kaiser around the now-defunct Eagle Mountain iron mine, the town's population dwindled in the Eighties after the mine closed.

The avenue of huge square concrete 'arches' is real, but a number of full-size buildings were constructed along with large-scale models built in forced perspective to make the already immense set seem even larger.

Interiors were filmed on Stage 16 at Warner Bros , famous for its enormous tank, which allows extra height to sets which can be built up from 20 feet below floor level.

The third location was the abandoned mall in the city of Hawthorne , in the South Bay area of Los Angeles , where the largest of those ‘turnstiles’ was built, blending in with the mall’s brutalist concrete architecture.

Hawthorne Plaza Mall , on Hawthorne Boulevard at 120th Street, closed in 1999 but was briefly brought back to life for Steven Spielberg ’s Minority Report in 2002. It was returned to its decrepit state for David Fincher 's Gone Girl . Its shell became the 'Tokyo' garage where the kids hang out in The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift , and more recently its rear was used for the road chase for DC’s Birds of Prey .

Sator and Kat's brief but crucial idyll aboard the yacht off the coast of 'Vietnam' was filmed off Bella Baia Beach at Maiori , east of Amalfi.

China’s coast guard accused the Philippines of deliberately crashing one of its ships into a Chinese vessel early Monday near Sabina Shoal, a new flashpoint in the increasingly alarming territorial disputes between the countries in the South China Sea.

Two Philippine coast guard ships entered waters near the shoal, ignored the Chinese coast guard’s warning and “deliberately collided” with one of China’s boats at 3:24 a.m., a spokesperson said in a statement on the Chinese coast guard’s website.

Philippine authorities did not immediately comment on the encounter near the disputed atoll in the Spratly Islands, where overlapping claims are also made by Vietnam and Taiwan.

“The Philippine side is entirely responsible for the collision,” spokesman Gan Yu said. “We warn the Philippine side to immediately stop its infringement and provocation, otherwise it will bear all the consequences arising from that.”

Gan added China claimed “indisputable sovereignty” over the Spratly Islands, known in Chinese as Nansha Islands, including Sabina Shoal and its adjacent waters. The Chinese name for Sabina Shoal is Xianbin Reef.

In a separate statement, he said the Philippine ship that was turned away from Sabina Shoal entered waters near the disputed Second Thomas Shoal, ignoring the Chinese coast guard’s warnings. “The Chinese coast guard took control measures against the Philippine ship in accordance with law and regulation,” he added.

Sabina Shoal, which lies about 140 kilometers (87 miles) west of the Philippines’ western island province of Palawan, has become a new flashpoint in the territorial disputes between China and the Philippines.

The Philippine coast guard deployed one of its key patrol ships, the BRP Teresa Magbanua, to Sabina in April after Filipino scientists discovered submerged piles of crushed corals in its shallows which sparked suspicions that China may be bracing to build a structure in the atoll. The Chinese coast guard later deployed a ship to Sabina.

Sabina lies near the Philippine-occupied Second Thomas Shoal, which has been the scene of increasingly alarming confrontations between Chinese and Philippine coast guard ships and accompanying vessels since last year.

China and the Philippines reached an agreement last month to prevent further confrontations when the Philippines transports new batches of sentry forces, along with food and other supplies, to Manila’s territorial outpost in the Second Thomas Shoal, which has been closely guarded by Chinese coast guard, navy and suspected militia ships.

The Philippine navy transported food and personnel to the Second Thomas Shoal a week after the deal was reached and no incident was reported, sparking hope that tensions in the shoal would eventually ease.

Chinese and Philippine ships collide again in disputed waters, and the countries are trading blame

TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) — Chinese and Philippine coast guard ships collided at sea, damaging at least two boats, in an encounter early Monday near a new flashpoint in their increasingly alarming confrontations in the disputed South China Sea.

Both blamed the other for the collision near Sabina Shoal, a disputed atoll in the Spratly Islands, where overlapping claims are also made by Vietnam and Taiwan. There were no reports of injuries.

China’s coast guard accused the Philippines of deliberately crashing one of its ships into a Chinese vessel. Two Philippine coast guard ships entered waters near the shoal, ignored the Chinese coast guard's warning and intentionally collided with one of China’s boats at 3:24 a.m., a spokesperson said in a statement on the Chinese coast guard's website.

“The Philippine side is entirely responsible for the collision,” spokesman Gan Yu said. “We warn the Philippine side to immediately stop its infringement and provocation, otherwise it will bear all the consequences arising from that.”

Jonathan Malaya, assistant director-general of the Philippine government’s National Security Council, accused the Chinese coast guard of disinformation for saying that the Philippine coast guard ships rammed its vessels.

Video and photographs, including those taken by journalists from a U.S. TV network who were on board one of the Philippine coast guard ships, showed that the Chinese ships caused the latest collisions in the high seas, Malaya told a news forum in Manila.

The Philippines’ National Task Force on the West Philippine Sea said two of the coast guard's ships, BRP Bagacay and BRP Cape Engaño, “encountered unlawful and aggressive maneuvers” from Chinese coast guard vessels while en route to Patag and Lawak islands, which are occupied by Filipino forces, in the contested region.

“These dangerous maneuvers resulted in collisions, causing structural damage to both Philippine Coast Guard vessels,” the statement read.

The task force said the collision between BRP Cape Engaño and one of the Chinese ships created a hole on the deck of the Philippine ship with a diameter of about 5 inches (12.7 centimeters).

About 16 minutes later, the other Philippine ship, BRP Bagacay, was rammed twice on its port and starboard sides by a different Chinese vessel, leading to structural damage, according to the task force.

“This is the biggest structural damage we have incurred as a result of the dangerous maneuvers carried out by the Chinese coast guard,” Commodore Jay Tarriela of the Philippine coast guard told the news forum in Manila.

“The (Philippine Coast Guard) stands firm in its responsibility to ensure the safety and security of our maritime domain while addressing any threats to our national interests,” the Philippine task force said.

“We are of course disappointed again," Malaya said. “Despite this preliminary understanding, which we hoped was the first page in a new chapter between the Philippines and PRC relations, we have … another incident."

“PRC” refers to China's formal name, the People's Republic of China.

China has been at odds with many other countries in the Asia-Pacific for years over its sweeping maritime claims, including almost all of the South China Sea, a strategic and resource-rich waterway around which Beijing has drawn a 10-dash line on official maps to delineate what it says is its territory .

Beijing is in the midst of a massive military expansion and has become increasingly assertive in pursuing its claims , giving rise to more frequent direct confrontations, primarily with the Philippines, though it is also involved in longtime territorial disputes with Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia and Brunei.

A 2016 arbitration ruling by a United Nations tribunal invalidated Beijing’s claims in the South China Sea, but China did not participate in the proceedings and rejected the ruling.

EXCLUSIVE: Lürssen's 146m superyacht Project Opera breaks cover

The technical launch of Lürssen's latest superyacht Project Opera  has taken place at the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg this morning. Due for delivery next year, she is believed to be a replacement for the 146m motor yacht SASSI, which was unfortunately destroyed in a fire at Lürssen's German shipyard in 2018. She's been moved to a floating dock before departing to Bremen shortly where she will begin outfitting and prepare for sea trials.

Project OPERA believed to be a direct replacement of destroyed vessel

As typical of Lürssen projects (such as motor yacht NORD ), superyacht Project Opera's build was shrouded in secrecy and completed in record time too: given that she is reportedly the exact same staggering length as luxury yacht SASSI. 

According to our exclusive images of Project Opera at the Hamburg shipyard, she appears to be a direct replacement of the destroyed vessel, with similar porthole window designs. We can see she has generous outdoor spaces, including a Jacuzzi on the sundeck and a large swimming pool on the main deck aft. The photos also reveal she has an ample beach club, swimming platform and tender garages.

As one would expect of a superyacht of this size and calibre, Project Opera will almost certainly have the finest facilities for her owner and guests to enjoy. In terms of convenience and the least intrusion possible, this will likely include an elevator, a separate crew passageway and an owner's study. For the ultimate indulgence, a variety of pampering facilities such as a sauna, spa, massage room and hammam are also anticipated to be featured, providing guests with their own reinvigorating private paradise. Other probable amenities include a cinema and a gym.

As for her expected exterior features, she will likely have 2 helipads, including one on the bow — which has become the new standard for superyachts over 100m. 

Will motor yacht OPERA be available for yacht charter?

It is believed that Project Opera will be a private yacht and will not become available for  superyacht charters once delivered.

Philippine vessel ‘deliberately collided’ with Chinese vessel in South China Sea: China

In one of the statements, China's maritime security said the same Philippine vessel then entered waters near Second Thomas Shoal after being prevented from entering Sabina Shoal waters.

China's Coast Guard said a Philippine vessel that had ignored its repeated warnings "deliberately collided" with a Chinese vessel in an "unprofessional and dangerous" manner, according to statements on Monday.

Two Philippine Coast Guard vessels "illegally intruded" into waters adjacent to Sabina Shoal without permission in the early hours on Monday, according to the China Coast Guard spokesperson Gan Yu.

"The Philippines has repeatedly provoked and caused trouble, violated the temporary arrangements between China and the Philippines," Gan said, referring to Philippines' supplies missions to a vessel grounded on Second Thomas Shoal.

China's Coast Guard said it took control measures against the Philippine ships in accordance with the law in the incidents early Monday, and warned the Philippines to "immediately stop infringement and provocation" or "bear all consequences".

A Philippines Coast Guard spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

China and the Philippines reached a "provisional agreement" in July after repeated altercations near the Second Thomas Shoal. China has been sharply criticised by western nations for aggression in blocking Philippine efforts to resupply troops aboard a navy ship it intentionally grounded 25 years ago.

Beijing claims almost all of the South China Sea, including both shoals, rejecting a 2016 ruling by the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague that Beijing's expansive claims had no basis under international law.

Next week, when the 37 th Louis Vuitton America’s Cup kicks off in Barcelona with its opening ceremony, the contest that began in 1851 with a race around the Isle of Wight between the fastest British and American sloops (the yacht America won handily) will come back to Europe for the first time in 14 years.

The move to the Catalan capital from the 2021 event in New Zealand will make it more accessible to sailing fans in Europe, and even North Americans who want to view the fast, technical AC75 foiling boats in person. Barcelona has been preparing itself for a surge of spectators for the “return” of the Cup, which was held twice in Valencia, Spain, in the aughts.

The America’s Cup may be billed as “the race with no second place,” but it takes three months of racing and four events for one of five Challenger teams to win the Louis Vuitton Cup, and that winner will race Defender Emirates Team New Zealand in the America’s Cup final. The racing runs from August through October, and this year includes a first-time all-women’s America’s Cup as well as an event for the world’s best youth sailors.

Having Barcelona as a venue was a smart move, partly for the gorgeous beaches fronting the race course on the Med. But there is also the city’s magnificent architecture and sense of history as well as vibrant arts, culture and, of course, no shortage of Michelin-starred restaurants.

There are many five-star hotels in the area, but the smartest and most thrilling way to see racing is by water. The vessel options are wide-ranging—from weeklong superyacht charters to luxury suites on a cruise ships to day trips on sailboats with Michelin-starred cuisine. Many can be combined with on-land stays and even cruises to other parts of Spain as part of the itineraries.

One important note: Four zones adjoining the race course allow spectator boats. Before chartering a vessel, be sure to find out which zone the boat will operate in, because that impacts how close you are to the racing.

Here are 9 options to suit the most avid Cup aficionados or those visiting Barcelona who want to sip champagne and watch the AC75 foiling boats battle it out.

Superyacht ‘Resilience’

Edmiston is offering charters aboard the 212-foot Resilience during the America’s Cup. The ISA-built superyacht, designed by Enrico Gobbi, features a mosaic-tiled pool, circular fire pit and a BBQ for a ringside lunch. Post-race pampering comes via the steam room, sundeck jacuzzi and gym, and there’s even a self-playing Edelweiss piano and projector for evening entertainment. The vessel sleeps 12 across seven cabins. From September 16, weekly charters start at about $645,000 (€600,000).

Explora Journeys

The soon-to-be-launched Explora II looks very much like its sistership, the Explora I : onyx finishes, self-playing Steinways, on-deck Technogym bikes, a spa with a Himalayan salt room, Dunhill cigar den and a wine cellar boasting decades-old Chateau Latour. With 461 luxury suites, how was the Explora II chosen to become an America’s Cup viewing platform? The idea came from the top down. 

“I love sailing and believe the Med is the most beautiful sea on earth,” Pierfrancesco Vago, executive chairman of the cruise division of MSC Group, told Robb Report during a visit aboard Explora I in Barcelona. “We thought if only our customers could also experience [the America’s Cup], we can call it the ocean state of mind.” 

Explora II launches in mid-September, with itineraries planned to coincide with the different Cup events. On October 6, the vessel will be in port for the Louis Vuitton Cup Final and Puig Women’s Races. Guests can take a walk to the official race village and experience its excitement before watching the races from their suites. A 10-night journey starts from $5,210 per guest.

The Almanac Sailing Experience

Barcelona’s Almanac hotel has a romantic-gastronomic experience that offers guests front-row seats on a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45 sailboat with a capacity for 10 guests. Besides the racing, the package includes two nights at the hotel. The boat comes with the hotel’s branded slippers and Jimmy Boyd bespoke amenities. Enjoy a selection of customized Cava Bellinis from the pop-up bar. Chefs from the hotels’ restaurant will also serve up shrimp salad and fennel ceviche paired with organic Spanish wines. The boat can be chartered every Saturday from August 31 to October 26. The Louis Vuitton Cup round-robin starts on August 29 and lasts through Sept. 8. There’s also the Puig Women’s Race (first all-female America’s Cup in its 171-year history) and, of course, the America’s Cup finals in October. Prices start at $2,940 per couple. 

Superyacht ‘C’

For a majestic week-long cruise that incorporates America’s Cup summer races and possible side itineraries in Costa Dorada, Sitges and Formentera, Camper & Nicholsons’ expansive 177-ft C is the flashy option, defined by Minotti furniture, lacquered panels and a hamman. It also sleeps 12 in six cabins that feature a master and two VIP suites. Its chase boat also offers a great opportunity for side trips. Weekly charters from Sept. 18-October 31 run from about $513,000 or €400,000.

Sailing Yacht ‘Imagine’

UK adventure specialists Pelorus offer a private seat on an elegant sailing boat seeped in America’s Cup history. Built in New Zealand by Alloy Yachts, Imagine is a 110-footer that served as an official viewing platform for the America’s Cup in Auckland, but it has also completed three global circumnavigations. Beyond its sailing chops, it’s a beautiful vessel, with a blonde, teak-lined deck, large salon and dining area, and three cabins for sleeping seven guests. It will be available from October 12 for the America’s Cup final. Pelorus is also offering to bookend the week with trips to Majorca and Ibiza. About $101,000 (£79,121)

Superyacht ‘Diane’

Also available from Edmiston, the 141-ft Diane can accommodate 10 guests in five staterooms for the week. The interior is all about soft hues, featuring cream leather and white marble, boasting a bar and plenty of outdoor seating for watching the races. For the non-race legs, guests can take to the water via the large beach club, complete with seabobs and wakeboards. It has a Balearics license, making a hop to Ibiza or Majorca a possibility. Weekly charter rates from September 23 run about $150,000 per week (€140,000)

Black Tomato Cup Package

Incorporating a city-stay, Black Tomato’s America’s Cup getaway includes a day’s private day charter to view the race, plus five nights at the Mandarin Oriental as well as visiting the regatta course and different bases of the America’s Cup teams for an insider’s look at the operations and technology. As a dayboat, its Bali Yacht Saxador 400 GTO can accommodate 11 guests. It sets sail from Port Olympic, giving guests a sweeping view of the city on one side and the regatta course on the other. The boat has access to the blue area (for preferred charter boats) on the front line. From $12,750 per person, based on two people.

Superyacht ‘Quasar’

Camper & Nicholsons recently introduced the 153-foot Quasar to the charter market and what a great way to end the Med season than by viewing the America’s Cup. It has six cabins (including two master suites) that can accommodate 12 guests, along excellent outdoor seating, an upper salon that joins the aft deck area for viewing the races or dining al-fresco. The beach club has a large selection of water toys. Visits to scenic Med ports around Barcelona are also possible on the week’s charter, which start at about $232,000 (€210,000).  

Superyacht ‘Kiawah’

For front row seats on day charters in the blue zone (the third-closest area to the races), official charter partner ac37 Sailcharters offers different types of vessels and packages. The 110-foot Kiawah features a cocktail lunch on board, a specialized lecture from an expert sailor, and an AV system to follow the race in real time. From August 22 through October 11, daily rates are about $34,000 (€30,800) and during the America’s Cup finals October 12-27, rates move to about $41,000 (€37,400).
