€3,675 / week in the high season and €2,450/ week in the low season for 10 people.

What is the best time of year for a yacht charter in Alicante?

The best time to embark on a sailing trip to Alicante is between April and October when you’ll have warm weather and little to no rainfall. Of course, the summer months are the most popular tourist period however, if you want to avoid crowds we’d recommend visiting in either May or September. The weather will still be warm but the city will be less crowded, and you’ll get better deals on boats!

What can I see and do with my boat charter in Alicante?

Explore the historic centre: This area is full of beautiful buildings, including the Santa Barbara Castle, which dates back to the 14th century. There are also plenty of shops, cafes and restaurants to explore, so you'll certainly be kept busy during your stay.

Get in touch with nature: If you're looking to escape the hustle and bustle of Alicante for a day, then there are plenty of great day trips to take from the city. One option is to head to the town of Elche, which is home to an incredible palm tree forest. Another option is to visit the village of Guadalest, which is situated high up in the mountains and offers stunning views of the surrounding area. For something a bit different, try the Playa de la Albufereta. This beach is located in a natural park and is perfect for those who love nature. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails nearby, as well as some lovely restaurants where you can enjoy fresh seafood.

Take a day trip: Consider heading up to Calpe, a stunning fishing village located on the coast. Here you can soak up some stunning views while tasting fresh seafood dishes or simply strolling through the picturesque streets.

Learn about history: No trip from Alicante is complete without visiting one of its most famous landmarks - La Muralla Arabe de Alcoy. This impressive Moorish fortress is over 800 years old and provides an insight into how this region looked during its long rule under Muslim rule.

Go to the beach: For an accessible beach, head to Playa de San Juan, one of the most popular beaches in Alicante. It is situated close to the city centre and is great for swimming, sunbathing and surfing, and there are plenty of restaurants and bars nearby for grabbing a bite or a drink. Another very popular beach is Playa de Levante located in the city of Benidorm. For snorkelling and scuba diving go to Playa de Cabo Roig and for windsurfing, Playa de El Campello.

Should I have a skipper on board my private boat charter in Alicante?

At Scansail we have a large fleet of yacht rentals in Alicante both with or without a skipper however, we always recommend choosing a vessel with a skipper. Skippered vessels are the best option for a worry-free holiday. Skippers are licenced professionals who will dock, anchor and navigate the vessel for you so you can sit back and relax, enjoying time with the ones you love. Having a skipper on board not only gives you peace of mind, but it’s also like having a private tour guide. Skippers are usually locals, so they can show you all of the most sought-after spots in Alicante, and make sure that you see everything on your travel itinerary.

For a personalised sailing holiday, choose a skippered vessel!

What type of boat should I choose for my yacht rental in Alicante?

The type of vessel that you choose for your private yacht charter in Alicante will depend on the duration of your holiday and your anticipated needs. For a shorter holiday of less than a week, we’d recommend a daily charter such as a RIB or a motorboat. If you’re planning a holiday of a week or more you’ll need a vessel that is spacious and fully equipped with all of the necessary amenities to accommodate you throughout your stay. Catamarans and yachts are great choices for a longer holiday with family or friends. If you’re an avid sailor and you like the challenge of navigating the wind and the waves, you might like a sailboat however, they can be unstable on the water so they aren’t suitable for people who are prone to seasickness or novice sailors.

Alicante marina

Alicante is a prominent city and a seaport situated on the Costa Blanca coast of Spain. Before you begin your catamaran tour in Alicante, you might like to visit several sights. Alicante’s Archaeological Museum is a place you can visit if you’re wondering about the city’s origins. Perhaps the most thrilling of all are the medieval displays that feature an ethereal mix of history, including Jewish, Islamic, and Christian cultures. Another wonderful landmark is the Santa Bárbara Castle, known for its curious rock formation on Mount Benacantil. Lastly, if you need a breather, you can always take the weight off at one of the many restaurants in Casco Antiguo of Alicante, a town in Altea known for its vibrant nightlife.

Being both a seaside and port city with beautiful beaches, renting a yacht in Alicante will fill your holidays with entertainment. For a full-day tour you can pay a visit to Tabarca Island, situated only 8 kilometers from the coast of Alicante. On the way to the island, you can make stops to snorkel or stand-up paddle in crystal-clear waters. Let us not forget that you have the option to taste the food, including the traditional Tabarca cauldron, in one of the many restaurants on the beach or the town center. The most common boat routes to this paradisiacal island are from Santa Pola, the Port of Alicante, or the seaside city of Torrevieja.

La Grenadella Alicante

A catamaran charter in Alicante can also be spent exploring the beach resorts and coves of Costa Blanca. With about 180 kilometers of coast, you can plan the perfect weekend cruise. We can put together a package that is tailor-made for you. An example itinerary would be to head up the coast from Alicante to Villajoyosa, known for its colorful fisherman cottages and fabulous restaurants. You can spend the next day further north in Benidorm, a former fishing village that has now been transformed into a tourist hotspot. There, you will find two distinct beaches known as Levante and Poniente. North of Benidorm is the resort of Albir, consisting of a sandy beach ideal for families with young children. For longer trips, you can make a stop at Calpe, Javea, and the old town of Denia.

An alternative catamaran charter and itinerary from Alicante would be to head south along the Costa Blanca coast. This way visitors will be able to stop at Torrevieja and Mil Palmeras. This is one of the most untouched places along the coastline, with16 km of blue-flag beaches to pick from. Another option is to explore the region of Murcia. You will find an incredibly historic port by Cartagena. Though this is a rather lengthy voyage, you will have an exciting trip ahead of you with a skipper on board. Finally, you can hire a catamaran in Alicante and arrange a lovely trip to the Balearic Islands of Ibiza, Formentera, or Mallorca. By island-hopping the Balearics, you will find everything you could possibly hope for in a summer holiday.

10 Best Things To Do In Alicante, Spain

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain town Guadalest

Nestled on the Costa Blanca of southern Spain, the city of Alicante is perfect for a little city break or a day trip when flying into the area. Yes, there are heaps of the best things to do in Alicante dotted around the town, but there are also heaps to do all around Costa Blanca as part of a wider trip to Spain.

Over the years, we’ve explored Alicante and the Costa Blanca many times, and the city is so much more than just its convenient airport. There are heaps to do once you arrive. In fact, I’d even go as far as saying that it’s one of the best cities in Spain to visit if you’re heading focusing your trip to the south of Spain .

So, to help you get the best out of your trip to Alicante, I’m sharing some of our top spots you really cant miss. This way, you can focus on all the exploring without getting bogged down with the tedious planning.

1.) Castillo de Santa Bárbara

catamaran alicante spain

Once you’re in Alicante, one spot you can’t miss is Castillo de Santa Barbara. You see, Castillo de Santa Barbara is a historic castle that dates back to the 8th Century castle and a fortress that is situated on the mountain overlooking Alicante itself. It’s absolutely incredible to visit and you can still wander around the ground and explore over 1,00 years of history whilst you’re here.

Once here, make sure to explore the castle walls and see the views over the Mediterranean. It’s stunning.

Admission is only a few euros, and a visit to Castillo de Santa Barbara will take around 60-90 minutes. Oh, and be sure to wear some comfy shoes and take SPF. The cobbled walkways can be presky and the sun is strong at the height of midday.

Explanada de España is a lovely Alicante walkway perfect for an afternoon or evening stroll by the harbour.

You can also easily visit Explanada de España after visiting Castillo de Santa Barbara. They’re pretty close by (to each other) and perfect if you fancy walking around Alicante.

Once here, make sure to wander the waterfront, explore the shops and cafes along the promenade, and just chill. Oh, and be sure to book yourself in for dinner at Terre . Their tuna is delicious. Now, food and wine will likely set you back around 80-100 euros, making it a great dinner option.

Not only that, you can easily visit Contemporary Art Museum of Alicante ( MACA ) whilst around the Santa Cruz  area. They have heaps of permanent exhibits but also seasonal ones from world-renowend artists. We loved it for a 45-minute trip.

The Archaeological Museum of Alicante exhibits focus on the last 100,000 years of history. Its galleries exhibit different geological and cultural periods, from prehistoric to medieval. It’s amazing.

Afterwards, book this roundtrip boat tour to Tabarca Island. It’s a great way to explore one of the south of Spain’s most iconic islands. It’s quaint and gorgeous to walk around, and you can even stop by the local village while you’re here. We loved it.

5.) Mercado Central de Alicante

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain Market hall of Alicante

Not too far from the streets of Santa Cruz, Mercat Central d’Alacant ( Alicante Market ) is one of the top places in Alicante for foodie lovers. You see, inside this historic market are heaps of different vendors and shops where you can buy anything from tapas and fresh produce to wines.  Just make sure to give yourself around 30-45 minutes to properly look around.

If you’ve got time, book this incredible food tour around the city of Alicante itself. You’ll get to eat around Alicante and get a great overview of the region’s delicious cuisine. Just be sure to book this food tour in advance; tickets sell out fast at peak times.

6.) Guadalest Valley

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain Guadalest Lake

Fancy spending some time outside of the city limits of Alicante? Then, the Guadalest Valley is the perfect place to go for a long day trip or overnight stay.

From hiking trails to hilltop castles, this place has heaps to offer. Guadalest is a valley town in the mountainous area popular for its turquoise blue lake and surrounding mountains. There are many restaurants to stop by, and this place offers some amazing views from the top.

Also, for a bite to eat in the area, head to Venta La Montaña . It’s a perfect spot for lunch when exploring the wider Guadalest Valley region, and their baked olleta de blat is so yummy.

7.) Playa del Postiguet

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain Playa del Postiguet

Fancy a beach day when visiting Alicante? Then get yourself over to Playa del Postiguet . Truth be told, you can’t really miss Playa del Postiguet in Alicante. After all, it’s right at the foot of Alicante Castle and within walking distance of Santa Cruz.

Now, a heads up: Playa del Postiguet can get busy in the peak of summer, so if you like a more chilled and relaxed beach – head outside Alicante.

Afterwards, you can book these tickets for this catamaran cruise that takes you around the shoreline here. Typically, these take place in the late afternoon, with stunning views. Plus, you’ll be able to stop off for some snorkelling.

8.) Basilica of St Mary (Basilica de Santa María)

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain-3

Built by the Catholic ruling class, way back when, visiting the Basilica of St Mary is easily one of the best things to do in Alicante when exploring the city’s long history.

There is a charge to enter, but it’s well worth it to explore one of the oldest religious sites in Alicante.

The church was built on the site where a mosque was previously erected. There is honestly so much history on this site. You can go there and see its lovely architecture, which is Valencian Gothic.

Just make sure to give yourself around 30 minutes to stroll around.

9.) Cabo de las Huertas

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain Cabo de las Huertas

Nestled on the northwest coast of Alicante city, Cabo de la Huerta is well worth visiting for a few hours when in the city.

It is an amazing place with beaches and secluded coves like La Calita Playa and Cala de la Palmera . These are tiny little coves, and totally beautiful. Alternatively, if you’re looking for a more accessbile beach, then head to Playa de las Huertas .

During a day at the beach, check out Alohers Coffee Surf for a yummy lunch.

10.) Tabarca

Best Things To Do In Alicante Spain Tabarca Island

As I mentioned, you can easily book this tour of Tabarca Island (roundtrip boat), which departs from Alicante. This is the smallest inhabited island in the region, and it’s so quaint to explore.

Once here, you’ll find a historic church, a port, a lighthouse, and so much more as you stroll Tabarca Island.

You can go there by boat ( with these tickets ) and have an amazing experience visiting this beautiful place. Just be sure to give yourself at least half a day in total. You’ll be surprised how quicky time flies here.
