Our sailing is made possible with the support of our wonderful hosts,  queensland cruising yacht club   (qcyc) at 69 sinbad st, shorncliffe qld 4017..

We sail from QCYC in the picturesque  sheltered waters adjacent to the mouth of Cabbage Tree Creek.

We sail every Monday morning from 9am during the school term. To learn more about sailing with us click here .

We are fortunate to offer the choice of sailing or cruising. When you board one of our specially designed Access 303 sail boats or our wheelchair friendly pontoon boat you can leave all your cares behind and enjoy the experience.

Sailability is run by volunteers who wish to support and care for our community and its members. Volunteers coordinate the day, skipper the sail and pontoon boats, and man the safety boat. Marina berth and hardstand rental on the Brisbane Northside is easily accessible to Club Members. With passage in and out of a well-marked channel, the QCYC is a perfect place to begin your explorations of Moreton Bay.

The Marina consists of 62 berths accommodating vessels up to 15m in length overall. Berths are available for overnight, weekly or long term rental through the QCYC Office. Insurance for your vessel, including public liability cover of at least $10million, is required. Some berths are held by individuals on long term leases and are occasionally resold by the holders.  All prices offered are subject to change without notice.

• Berths from 10m to 15m
• Toilets & Showers
• Laundry Facilities
• Power & water to each marina berth
• Photocopy & Fax service (during designated office hours)

Skippers wishing to rent a berth for longer than one month must be Full or Family Members. For more information on membership, visit our Membership Page.

Full, Family and Country Members who do not own or rent a berth are entitled to moor in the visitors mooring area near the boat ramp free of charge for one night prior to and one night after a race or cruise.

All other members are entitled to discounts on occasional mooring.

A large hardstand area provides for Members requiring storage of their vessel either short or long term basis, with easy access to the Club boat ramp. The boat ramp is capable of handling boats of a gross weight up to eight tonnes.

Rates – Members

Full or Family membership is compulsory when storing your vessel in the marina or in the hard stand.  The Club Management Committee will consider requests for live aboard availability.  Refundable key Deposit $50.

Rates – Non Members

Prices include temporary membership for the length of your stay.  Refundable key Deposit $50

Prices include temporary membership for the length of stay for a period of up to 3 months.  Beyond 3 months requires occupant to become a full financial member.

SAILING. Our sailing is made possible with the support of our wonderful hosts, Queensland Cruising Yacht Club (QCYC) at 69 Sinbad St, Shorncliffe QLD 4017. Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race bounces back from the brink of cancellation for second year running

Early this morning, the 2021 Brisbane to Gladstone yacht race was looking down the barrel of its first back-to-back cancellation in 73-years – its fate hinging on Queensland's coronavirus outbreak.

But the end of the Greater Brisbane lockdown means not only that will this year's race charge ahead, but also that race history could be made.

For race director Karen Sommerville, this week had been a "challenging" one.

She had watched competitors drop out of the race due to the Brisbane COVID lockdown.

"We've lost quite a lot of our fleet, we started with 48, but quite a lot of them have had to withdraw," Ms Somerville said.

"We're down to 37 competitors now."

Commentator Grant Cooper said the lockdown ending earlier than expected is giving crews the time they needed to get provisions for the race and complete last-minute boat audits. 

"You cannot believe the amount of turmoil that's been behind the scenes and the organisation of such a huge offshore yachting race," he said.

Despite some competitors pulling out, Mr Cooper said it's looking like a "very, very healthy fleet".

John Ibell, Gladstone local and skipper of competitor, Restless, said he was "excited and relieved".

"We put a lot of preparation into this race, as every yacht does," he said.

"I've had the crews basically sitting on stand-by in Gladstone, it's great news that they can finally leave town and drive down and we can head north with a beautiful south-easter pushing us home all the way."

The Queensland Cruising Yacht Club made the "difficult decision" to cancel the 2020 Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht race due to the pandemic; another this year would have been the first back-to-back cancellation in the event's 73-year history.

Historically the race website ranks among the top 4 per cent in the world for visitor numbers over the Easter weekend.

Records could fall

A weather cocktail brewing off the Capricorn coast forecast for the Easter weekend has sparked predictions that the 2018 race record could fall again.

Peter Harburg's supermaxi, Black Jack, shattered the 14-year-old race record in 2018 – and Ms Somerville predicts that record may fall again this weekend.

"Black Jack is still in the race and they'll certainly be looking to do a record … the winds are very favourable for a record for them," she said.

Weather bureau forecaster Livio Regano said south-easterlies between 20 and 30 knots were likely for the weekend – which could be intensified by a potential low.

"Maybe Easter Sunday we even get a low forming off the coast – even earlier for places around Capricornia," he said.

"The devil's in the details with these east-coast low things, because its exact position when it forms … will determine … it's impact.

"For example, if it forms a little bit further offshore it will have much less impact on the coastal wins than if it forms over land or close to land."

Black Jack's current race record stands at 16 hours, 53 minutes and 57 seconds.

A win would bring it into Gladstone in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The members room & lawn.

The Members Room is a historic space offering not just a function room, but a room filled with the Clubs historical records. It is located downstairs and opens onto The Waterfront Marquee area with additional seating and cover overlooking the Marina & unique waterfront views. You will be cosy in the colder months with our indoor wood heater to add to the ambiance of any event.

Seats up to 70 for a sit down service or 100 for a cocktail service

The Bar & Deck

The Bar & Deck is a modern area featuring sliding glass walls opening to a shaded outdoor area with magnificent bay views. This area is perfect for smaller cocktail functions of up to 80 guests and in the summer months you can enjoy the refreshing bay breezes.

The City of Brisbane or (Commodore’s) Room

Located upstairs, overlooking the Marina, the City of Brisbane Room (being the Administrative Start line for the famous Brisbane to Gladstone Yacht Race) converts to your function needs. It boasts stunning views of the Marina and out to Moreton Bay. A private balcony and personal wait staff will ensure the most intimate event where you can take in the spectacular view.
