Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 cast: Meet Captain Glenn's new and returning crew members
Captain Glenn Shephard will be back on the small screen soon for Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5.
After a delay and a slew of fan speculation, Season 5 of Below Deck Sailing Yacht finally received a premiere date and a trailer.
As Monsters and Critics previously reported, the hit sailing show returns in less than a month with many newbies to bring the drama.
However, in true Below Deck fashion, a couple of alums make up Captain Glenn’s latest crew, but a fan favorite is missing.
Colin MacRae isn’t returning as Chief Engineer after a turbulent Season 4 that fractured his friendships with Gary King and Daisy Kellier.
The three helped revamp the sailing show after a lackluster Season 1, making it a hit along with Captain Glenn. Colin will undoubtedly be missed.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht stars Daisy Kelliher and Gary King are back
Two people needing no introduction are Gary and Daisy, who are each back for their fourth season on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
Last summer, photos of Gary and Daisy filming Season 5 were leaked; honestly, we weren’t surprised to see them in the mix. Despite their friction, which amps up for Season 5, Daisy and Gary make good television.
Gary was featured much less in the trailer than in previous seasons, and that likely has to do with the sexual misconduct allegations that came out after Season 5 was filmed. Recently, Gary shared an update about his accuser as he continues to proclaim his innocence.
Who are Captain Glenn Shephard’s new Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 crew members?
Chef Cloyce Martin takes over the galley, and at 22, his age will play a huge factor in the season. We already see him clash with Daisy in the trailer.
Davide Morosi takes over Colin’s chief engineer role, and he seems to be pretty private, with little to no activity on social media.
Stew Diana Cruz declares herself “an organized mess” who has caught the acting and yachting bug.
Danni Warren rounds out the interior crew. She has a connection with Below Deck Med’s Bri Muller and seems to want to be in the social media influencer game, too.
Deckhand Keith Allen catches Daisy’s eye on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5. Keith isn’t just a sailing yachtie but a photographer and diver who loves to travel.
Emma Crouch makes up the rest of Gary’s deck team. She’s all about being a yachtie, including helping others get into the business as a trainer with Paper Boat Yachting Academy.
That’s a brief preview of the Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 cast. Fans will have to turn in to find out more about Captain Glenn’s crew, especially to learn how Daisy and Gary work together after their Season 4 fallout.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 5 premieres on Monday, October 7 at 9/8c on Bravo. Seasons 1-4 are streaming on Peacock.

How To Book The 'Below Deck Mediterranean' Yacht, Because Everyone Needs A Luxury Vacation
If you aren't yet familiar with Below Deck Mediterranean or its predecessor, Below Deck , then you probably have close to no idea how glamorous yacht life is. But if you have been a fan of the Bravo series, and caught the Below Deck Mediterranean series premiere, then you're probably wondering, can you book a trip on Below Deck Mediterranean ? If you've got a couple hundred thousand dollars sitting around, then yes, you can absolutely book a trip on the Ionian Princess of Below Deck Mediterranean .
Much like the series before it, Below Deck Mediterranean will feature the sort of drama fans have come to love and expect from not only Bravo but Below Deck itself. Some of the only differences this time around are the location, which will find us enjoying the insane sights of Greece and since it's in European waters, we can also expect to have the sort of cast and crew made up of all sorts of cultures, ethnicities, and accents. A melting pot at the sea, if you will.
The trailer for the first season of the new series features all sorts of dramatics already, from the crew getting in fights (surprising) to passenger/steward relations (also super surprising. Only, you know, not). Naturally, though, the experience on Below Deck Mediterranean looks like a nonstop party and who doesn't want to be a part of that? So, how do you charter the yacht from Below Deck and what does it even entail? Should you find yourself wanting to be in thick of all of that drama, then here we go.
How Much Does It Cost?
As to be expected, in order to charter the Ionian Princess for a week at a time, it costs a pretty penny . If you are looking to have it for a week in the winter, it's going to run you around $140,087, and should you prefer to take a trip for a week in the summer, costs start at $163,501. For one week.
How Can You Book The Yacht?
Believe it or not, in order to rent a yacht, there is a lot more to it than calling the owner and giving them your credit card info. A vacation rental in Myrtle Beach this is not. Instead, you're looking at speaking to a yacht broker in order to have a middle man of sorts to speak to the owner and crew of the yacht you're looking to charter. Think of them as a travel agent , but kind of on a higher level.
How To Ensure A Spot On The Actual Show
What's that? You want to take a 3-4 day trip on a luxury yacht around the Mediterranean Sea and also appear on a hit Bravo reality show? Yeah, I know. But you don't need to be a millionaire to get to take a trip on the Ionian Princess in this instance. Bravo actually casts for guests specifically , so it has nothing to do with paying to charter the yacht yourself. For a chance to be on Below Deck Mediterranean and get a spot on the Ionian Princess, all you need to do is send your name, phone number, location, picture, and some reasons why you want to go on the yacht to [email protected]. So yeah, you have to somehow come up with why you want to take an awesome luxury yacht trip.

Below Deck Yachts
If you’ve never seen the show, it follows the crew of a luxury yacht during peak “charter season.” The original Below Deck, for example, showed off the glitz and glamour of the Caribbean, especially around St. Thomas, the British Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas. The Mediterranean spin-off, on the other hand, highlights European hotspots, including Italy, Spain and Croatia.
The show is undeniably a ton of fun. From the drama in the crew quarters, to the incredible beaches, the show provides an entertaining look behind the curtain.
Yet, the chartered superyachts are the real stars of the show. Each season, Below Deck features a truly stunning super yacht. All of them measure over 150 feet and are decked out in opulent features, staterooms and amenities. And here’s something you might not know: The majority of the Below Deck yachts are available for charter!
Below Deck Charter Yachts
Through five seasons, Below Deck has featured some of the most magnificent super yachts in the world. Some of the yachts have changed ownership since the show, been renamed, or have undergone a refitting. Yet, most look like they did from the show.
But beyond the name and maybe a few changes to the interior, there aren’t many differences. All of the water toys, Jacuzzis and stunning outdoor dining areas are what you’ll find on the yachts available for charter! So which charter yachts are available?
Season | Yacht | Real Name | Length | Charter Rate |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Honor | Lumiere | 163.8’ | From $175,000/week |
2 | Ohana | Rhino | 154’ | From $140,000/week |
3 | Eros | Mustang Sally | 161’ | Not Available |
4 | Valor | BG | 153.9’ | Not Available |
5 | Valor | BG | 153.9’ | Not Available |
Mediterranean 1 | Ionian Princess | Ionian Princess | 150’ | From €145,000/week |
Mediterranean 2 | Sirocco | Sirocco | 154.2′ | From €180,000/week |
Mediterranean 3 | Talisman Maiton | Talisman Maiton | 177.1′ | From €231,000/week |
Here’s a more detailed look at the yachts featured on the original Below Deck:
Honor – Season 1
Honor (which is now LUMIERE) kicked off the first season, and she put on a dazzling display. The yacht, originally built by Benetti in 1999, is one of the largest yachts ever featured on the show, and it was actually booked for a five-week charter for filming.
HONOR benefited from the new-found fame of the show. She sold after it aired for nearly $15 million, and the new owners completely refit her interiors and renamed the boat. Today, LUMIERE is a masterpiece of nautical engineering.
She features luxurious accommodations for up to 12 guests and an abundance of deck space, including a sprawling sun deck. The yacht also features a wide array of water toys (the slide was a struggle for the crew all season!).
Ohana – Season 2
Season 2 took the crew on a tour of the British Virgin Islands and featured some familiar faces. Captain Lee, Chef Ben, and Bosun Eddie were back, much to the pleasure of fans. Yet, the yacht was completely different.
OHANA (real name is RHINO) was featured on the second season, a stunning 154-footer, with beautiful decks, a horseshoe outdoor bar, and a stunning outdoor sun deck. After the show aired in 2014, Ohana underwent an extensive retrofit.
She now features an updated interior with a decidedly modern, airy vibe, as well as new hardware, including a state-of-the-art stabilization system.
Eros – Season 3
EROS took centerstage in Season 3, and the 161-foot yacht, originally built for the founder of Tim Hortons, was one of the most luxurious featured on the show. The beautiful tri-deck, featured a stately saloon, a sky lounge Jacuzzi, and sleek exterior styling.
EROS – which was sold prior to the third season – has since been renamed and was also remodeled. She’s now known as Mustang Sally, and unfortunately, this is one of the few Below Deck charter yachts that’s not available for charter.
Valor – Seasons 4 & 5
The stately VALOR was a fan favorite in Season 4 and 5. Built in 1990 by Dutch-based Feadship, the 154-foot VALOR featured a sprawling aft deck, perfect for sunset dinners and afternoon lounges. Plus, the ship – when featured on the show – had a range of water toys, including dual jet skis and a sleek, boutique hotel-inspired interior.
Like Mustang Sally, VALOR – which is now known as simply BG – isn’t available for charter. Yet, fans will always remember all the drama that took place on board.
Below Deck Mediterranean Yachts
Below Deck Mediterranean premiered in 2016, and through three seasons, the show has featured some of the Med’s best yachts. All of the yachts from the Mediterranean spin-off are available for charter, exactly how you see them on the show.
Ionian Princess – Season 1
Season 1 of Below Deck Mediterranean launched with a bang, featuring one of the strongest premieres for the franchise. Although there was plenty of drama throughout the season as the crew traveled around Greece, the beauty of IONIAN PRINCESS couldn’t be missed. The ship, which was originally built in the U.S. in 2005, featured a sleek, streamlined tri-deck design and gorgeous interiors.
The sun deck – where guests partied all season long – is one of the yacht’s star attractions, featuring a Jacuzzi with world-class views. Her interior, though, is one of the most stunning, featuring a chic design. The yacht also includes six cabins with accommodations for up to 12 guests.
Sirocco – Season 2
Season 2 took the crew to Croatia, aboard SIROCCO. The Dutch-built yacht originally launched in 2006, and thanks to its unique two-tone, third-deck exterior, she was remembered for her striking exterior. All of the yacht’s features made great TV. From her incredible sun deck, to the African chic interior, and all of the many water toys, SIROCCO’s impressive design and amenities stood out.
Today, she’s available for charter throughout the Mediterranean. A few unique features include a sun deck gym, an alfresco party deck, a theatre, and a wide array of water toys.
Talisman Maiton – Season 3
Named for an island in Thailand, TAILSMAN MAITON is a stunning tri-deck that cruises the pristine waters of Italy and all of the Mediterranean. The largest to ever be featured on the show, TAILSMAN is truly incredible.
The yacht accommodates 12 guests, in 6 beautifully appointed rooms. There’s a master suite, as well as 1 VIP stateroom, and four smaller cabins. The yacht was built in 2006, but most recently refit in 2016 with a timeless Art Deco aesthetic. The yacht also features a sundeck spa pool with a beautiful bar, a full-service gym, and an observation deck with panoramic views.
How Long Are the Below Deck Charters?
Here’s a little-known secret about Below Deck: The “charter season” on the show is just a few weeks. In fact, the yachts are actually booked for about six weeks, and their regular crews are sent home. In other words, the charters on Below Deck are actually a charter within a charter!
Each of the Below Deck charters last just a few days, and each episode features new charter guests.

Since 2013, Below Deck has been captivating TV audiences across the globe by offering a voyeuristic peek into life on board multi-million dollar luxury charter yachts . Taking readers behind the scenes, YachtCharterFleet identifies the yachts featured on the show, as well as those which have appeared on the celebrated spin-off series Below Deck: Mediterranean , Below Deck: Sailing , Below Deck: Down Under and the latest iteration, Below Deck: Adventure .
Bravo’s hit reality TV series Below Deck chronicles the lives of crew members who work and reside aboard a luxury yacht during the charter season.
Each season features a different crew configuration, and the episodes show how the crew members interact and deal with personal issues alongside their working lives. The seasons are filmed over six weeks, with every episode featuring a new group of charter guests.
Getting even closer to these Below Deck superstars, we take a look at each of the stand-out features of every yacht that has appeared on the show.

Throughout the course of the show, the yachts have played an important role.

Delivered in 2008 by Italian shipyard Benetti, the yacht has an impressive sleek, supercar-inspired profile that instantly turns heads.
Onboard highlights include her well-appointed sundeck with sunloungers and sunpads where guests can kick back and relax, a spa pool and her al fresco cinema screen set up for unforgettable movie nights.
One of the yacht's most distinctive features is her sophisticated spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. The yacht is very versatile for a variety of charter party configurations, with room for 12 guests across six elegantly appointed cabins.
STARSHIP (aka MY SEANNA)
Making an appearance on seasons 9, 8 and 6 of Below Deck , the majestic motor yacht STARSHIP (known on the show as MY SEANNA) is a yacht charter favorite.
The yacht has traveled far and wide for the show cruising to the jaw-droppingly beautiful St Kitts and Nevis in season 9, the sun-kissed Caribbean in season 8 and the South Pacific islands of Tahiti in season 6.
Known for being among one of the most opulent yachts on the charter market due to her ornate interiors and glossy fittings that have been brushed in 22-carat gold, it is safe to say that this yacht is one of the most opulently styled and extensively equipped yachts on the water. Refitted in 2021, the Delta Marine yacht can accommodate 12 guests across 6 cabins and is extremely versatile for a variety of yacht charter party configurations.
VALOR (aka BG)
Appearing three times on the hit show, the 47m (153ft) charter yacht BG (known on the show as VALOR) featured in seasons 7, 5 and 4 of Below Deck , taking charter guests to a variety of sun-kissed and beautiful locations. The yacht's real name is BG, and she was built in 1990 by the world's most revered shipbuilder Feadship . Since then, she has undergone many interiors refreshes to keep her in tip-top condition.
The yacht traveled around Thailand in Season 7 where the crew and viewers were treated to a truly memorable South East Asian experience. From the iconic Phi Phi Islands to the beautiful beaches of Ko Yao Yai, there were plenty of fascinating landmarks to see on the way. Season 5 took viewers to the tranquil cruising grounds of Saint Martin whilst season 4 saw M/Y BG in the glistening waters of the Virgin Islands .
Accomodating 12 guests across 6 cabins, she is also capable of carrying up to 10 crew onboard to ensure a relaxed luxury yacht charter experience.
EROS (aka STAY SALTY)
Season 3 of Below Deck was announced after a hugely successful second-season finale, which was the highest-rated episode of the series. The new season saw the crew head to the Bahamas onboard superyacht STAY SALTY known on the show as EROS.
She is equipped with an array of luxurious amenities including an eight-person sundeck Jacuzzi, barbecue and yacht-wide sound system. She also boasts timeless interior styling with intricate wood panelling and a neutral colour palette which helps create an inviting atmosphere for those on board.
The yacht was sold in November 2013 - just before filming for season 3 began - for an asking price of $17.9 million.
OHANA (aka STAR DIAMOND)
Premiering in August 2014, season 2 of Below Deck returned with 13 episodes documenting life on board the slightly smaller superyacht STAR DIAMOND in the British Virgin Islands . Among many other features, the yacht is equipped with a large sundeck, outdoor bar and luxury accommodation for 10 guests.
After filming the series, M/Y STAR DIAMOND was sold for an asking price of $10.9 million and is now on the charter market with a charter rate of $160,000/week. Extensively refit in 2022, the work on the superyacht has included a complete interior refresh, the yacht now features light, modern styling - an engine rebuild and a cabin conversion.
HONOR (aka BARENTS )
The first season of Below Deck premiered on 1 July 2013 after being announced in April 2012. Chartering around the Caribbean , the starring superyacht was named HONOR for the show but chartered under the name CUOR DI LEONE which translates to ‘Lion Heart’ in Italian. She now goes by the name BARENTS .
Built by Italian shipyard Benetti in 1999 and refit in 2021, the famous vessel has undergone a complete makeover, bringing her up to modern standards. She can accommodate up to 12 charter guests and features luxury amenities for guests to enjoy including state-of-the-art TVs and a sundeck Jacuzzi.
Following the show, superyacht BARENTS was sold for around $15 million and her new owner commissioned a major refit. A great deal of money was spent on updating her interior with a classic-modern style of design as well as on brand-new exterior furniture and entertainment systems.
Below Deck: Mediterranean
Following on from the success of Below Deck , the spin-off Below Deck: Mediterranean premiered in May 2016. While the original series takes place during the winter charter season when the Caribbean is at its peak, Below Deck: Mediterranean is filmed during the summer charter season.
Season one of Below Deck: Mediterranean saw Captain Mark Howard at the helm, but the baton was passed to Captain Sandy Yawn from two onwards. Chief Stewardess Hannah Ferrier was another permanent fixture on the show from season one to five, before leaving the show in season six.
As its name suggests, the show is based in the Mediterranean , the world’s most popular yachting hub from May to October. Despite the change in location, the same format and accompanying on-water antics from the crew and guests alike can be expected. Below, all the names of the superyachts which have appeared on the show, and the cost to rent them.

Season 7 of Below Deck: Mediterranean returned to the screens in July 2022 and brought back more drama and wealthy clientele, creating endless entertainment for viewers at home. Set in Malta , a destination never seen before on the show, the series followed the crew over an eight-week charter season onboard the 49m (160ft) superyacht HOME .
Accommodating up to 12 guests across 6 beautifully decorated staterooms, this yacht is described as a home away from home, the perfect platform for guests to soak up the sunshine, kick back and relax. From her convivial sundeck setup replete with a Jacuzzi and glowing cocktail bar to her panoramic sky lounge and state-of-the-art water toys, this yacht certainly had the wow factor that was required for Below Deck: Mediterranean .
LADY MICHELLE (renamed NEXT CHAPTER)
Season 6 of Below Deck: Mediterranean premiered in June 2021 and saw a new vessel, motor yacht LADY MICHELLE , since re-named NEXT CHAPTER, take center stage. It also saw the return of Captain Sandy and Bosun Malia, plus a brand new crew.
A floating paradise that turns heads on the water, this heavenly Benetti vessel comfortably accommodates 12 guests across 6 sumptuous staterooms, with additional capacity for up to 12 crew members. She also boasts an open-air cinema, a split-level owner's suite and an impressive array of water toys.
This season takes the crew to one of the most idyllic cruising grounds in the East Mediterranean : Croatia . Abounding with serene golden beaches, crystalline waters and gorgeous coves to explore, it's one of the most popular yacht charter destinations.
THE WELLINGTON (aka THE WELLESLEY)
Season 5 of Below Deck: Mediterranean premiered in the summer of 2020. The show was shot on board the motor yacht THE WELLESLEY , and the superyacht was given the alias THE WELLINGTON over the course of filming.
The yacht has an elegant 1920's theme, with a chic club lounge complete with a bespoke humidor. She features plenty of marble accents and ample alfresco deck areas, as well as a jacuzzi with innovative spill pool features.
The yachties set course for Spain for this season, cruising around the azure waters of the Balearic Islands . The homeport was Port Adriano on the island of Mallorca .
Featuring in both Season 4 and Season 2 of Below Deck: Mediterranean , superyacht SIROCCO is a yacht charter sensation. An elegant and sophisticated Heesen -built motor yacht, she features plenty of alfresco sunning areas and an 8-person jacuzzi pool; the perfect spot for the charter guests to unwind after a long day exploring.
Season 4 took the crew to one of the most iconic destinations in the Mediterranean ; the South of France . Between the luxury yachting hub of Monaco to the beautiful beaches in St Tropez , this season promises lashings of glitz and glamour. During Season 2 of Below Deck: Mediterranean , M/Y SIROCCO cruised the picturesque waters of Croatia .
TALISMAN MAITON
Premiering in 2018, season 3 of Below Deck: Mediterranean saw familiar and new faces head to the sublime cruising grounds of Italy. This time, the crew treated their discerning guests to a world of luxury on board the 54m/178ft motor yacht TALISMAN MAITON .
Built in 2006 and refit to an exacting standard in 2016, the yacht boasts a range of exciting features that make her particularly appropriate for the waters of the Amalfi Coast . Indeed, her entertainment options range from a stunning selection of water toys to a sundeck Jacuzzi and a refreshingly modern interior.
IONIAN PRINCESS
Premiering on 3 May 2016, the very first season of Below Deck: Mediterranean , a spin-off of the increasingly popular franchise, took to viewers' screens. This time the ‘yachties’ took care of their guests onboard the motor yacht IONIAN PRINCESS in the Mediterranean destination of Greece .
The starring yacht IONIAN PRINCESS was delivered from Christensen in 2005 and was later refit in 2016 and again in 2021. Truly opulent, she bears interiors that are sleekly finished with a range of warmly toned woods and plenty of comfortable furnishings. She also boasts one of the largest sundecks for a yacht of her size.
Below Deck: Mediterranean Season 1 yacht IONIAN PRINCESS is not currently available for private yacht charter vacations.
Below Deck: Sailing Yacht
This is the first time the Below Deck franchise branched away from gleaming motor yachts, with the various weather issues that sailing yachts have to contend with adding even more drama and excitement.
The design of luxury sailing yachts also creates far more confined crew areas than we are used to seeing on the original Below Deck . In general, sailing yachts tend to feature smaller galleys, compact stew stations and cramped crew quarters which are in closer proximity to the guests’ living areas, putting crew under increased pressure to deliver their signature silver service.
In addition, deck crew are placed in a far more demanding role, with sailing yachts requiring increased accuracy and precision to safely maneuver and plenty of deck duties taking place in the midst of guest areas.

Home: Inside the star yacht of Below Deck Mediterranean season seven
Television network Bravo has confirmed the return of Below Deck spin-off Below Deck Mediterranean as the seventh season wraps up filming in Malta. The hit reality series, which follows a yacht crew over an eight-week charter season, will premiere its new season on July 11 with Captain Sandy Yawn at the helm of an all-new yacht named Home . Take a look inside...
The 50 metre Home was built by Dutch shipyard Heesen in 2017 as a 'home away from home' for her owner. It was one of the first superyachts of its size to feature a hybrid propulsion package, which makes her 48 per cent more efficient than other 50 metre yachts, and is the first diesel-electric motor yacht to appear on Below Deck .
The yacht was started on speculation and construction was already underway when her owner joined the project. Home 's lines were designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects and inspired by another Heesen build, the 50 metre Sibelle . A vertical bow serves a dual purpose, helping the yacht to carve through waves, but also creating more room on the interior to place the crew accommodation. In order to stay under 500GT, Omega created walkaround decks with cut-out bulwarks that offer uninterrupted sea views from each of her two lounges.
The interior was started on spec but wasn't to the tastes of the owner, who brought in designer Cristiano Gatto to rework the design. The new brief was for a modern, comfortable interior; the keyword was simplicity, not minimalism.
Home can sleep up to 12 guests in six cabins: a full-beam master suite can be found on the main deck, while a full-beam VIP cabin, two double cabins and two twins are found on the deck below. The decor takes inspiration from the owner's on-shore properties with a contemporary, "Ibiza-style" feel. Low-slung sofas are featured throughout with a palette comprised of white, black, grey and a deep red.
The sun deck will be a popular spot with guests during the series. There's a sit-up bar shaded by a hard top as well as a Jacuzzi and a dancing pole. A quartet of sun loungers can be found aft with yoga mats tucked underneath, while a projector and a screen set-up can transform the deck into an outdoor cinema.
Another spot for riotous evenings is the sky lounge, which in effect is an extension of the outside deck with beanbags, day beds and teak flooring. The space is serviced by a bar and is a popular spot for lounging in the cool air and taking in the view. Alternatively, the doors to the aft deck can be shut, the furniture removed, a mirror ball and a smoke machine can be added and the area becomes a dedicated party room.
More fun can be found on Home ’s foredeck, in a telescopic seat that rises from the bow, allowing uninterrupted 360-degree views. It can even be used underway if the conditions are right.
Captain Sandy will be joined by returning Below Deck cast member and deckhand Mzi “Zee” Dempers, as well as a trio of new department heads.
Home is currently available for charter with Burgess starting from $245,000 a week. She is also jointly listed for sale with Burgess and Christie Yachts asking €29,500,000.

How Real Is Bravo's 'Below Deck'?
A charter broker makes waves with the truth behind the reality show.
Reality TV isn't exactly known for its measured and reasoned depictions. Think: the hot-headed cooks on Top Chef and Hell’s Kitchen or the over-the-top romance on The Bachelor . But while we may be familiar with what going to a restaurant or on a date is like, not many people can afford the luxury of chartering a fully staffed yacht. Below Deck , the Bravo reality show now in its seventh season that goes “behind the scenes” of life on the high seas, gives viewers a glimpse into a world they might otherwise only see through celebrities’ Instagram posts.
A post shared by John Legend (@johnlegend) A photo posted by on
The featured yacht changes nearly every season and is often available for charter (even by us regular folk...well, rich regular folk), starting in the low six figures (plus expenses), for groups of up to 12 and a crew of nine or more. To get onboard one of these multimillion-dollar vessels, would-be guests turn to a charter broker, a person whose job it is to pair each guest with the right yacht. Lauren Littlejohn, now a charter broker for Ocean Independence, grew up in a yachting family (her father was a captain of a 102-foot yacht that cruised the Great Lakes and Bahamas) and spoke with us about what actually happens below deck.
So kick off your shoes (you can’t wear them onboard anyway), and find out what yacht life is really like.
The 147-foot M3, available for charter, has a sundeck Jacuzzi.
The guests onscreen are paying to be there, but don’t get let off the hook on behavior.
Forget the pirate’s life and any notion of international waters. Behavior onboard a yacht is regulated both by the laws of the country you’re in and the country where the yacht is registered, as well as a code of conduct agreed to before setting sail. Rules can range from a typical zero-tolerance drug policy to yacht-specific rules like no red wine (it stains). It all comes down to the contract.
“If any of these written rules or laws are violated, the charter contract is considered in breach and the charter may be terminated immediately,” Littlejohn says. “If one person’s behavior is jeopardizing the charter (whether a guest or crewmember) remedies can sometimes be made with removal/replacement of the person in question.”
Charter brokers talk, so bad behavior on one yacht could keep a guest off another.

An inflatable three-story slide on the 147-foot Avalon can launch guests into the ocean.
Crew storming off or quitting unexpectedly is really, really frowned upon.
Crewmembers are working nearly 24 hours a day during a charter, then sleeping just feet apart, so it’s no surprise that tensions can run high. Despite the dramatic footage of the show's chief stewardess storming off down the dock in season seven, professionals know they’re agreeing to long hours and sometimes-demanding guests. The show's captain, Capt. Lee Rosbach, prefers a deckhand or stewardess to work through the end of a charter. If something goes very wrong mid-trip, guests are unlikely to spot the now-unemployed crewmember again, thanks to staff-only hallways, stairwells, and accommodations.
The most successful charter vessels employ a long-term crew, although some people do prefer the variety of yacht-hopping. “Longstanding crew create repeat clients and consistency. You’ll find some crew members will leave a boat after a season, enjoying more flexibility personally this way,” Littlejohn says. “Crew often miss out on big life events such as friends’ weddings, birthdays, or the birth of children.”
While Below Deck hasn't led to an increase in the number of charters, it may have increased the number of crew applications. “There seem to be fewer numbers of experienced crew, and most seem to be making a shorter career out of yachting,” says Littlejohn. “I believe that the poor behavior being so emphasized on TV has possibly tightened up some of the behaviors nowadays; that may also come from captains tightening up their onboard rules.”
Explore untouched beaches on a charter vacation.
If a guest has expensive taste, that’s going to factor into “plus expenses.”
There’s a reason why the chef is one of the highest-paid crewmembers onboard: Everyone remembers the food, so it better be amazing. While noting dietary restrictions happens long before a guest steps on board, it’s difficult to predict guests’ mood and cravings once there. Plus, there’s only one person preparing up to three three-course meals a day. (Yes, breakfast can be three courses.) Below Deck crew said they spent between $10,000 and $15,000 to provision the yacht for six weeks of filming season seven, but that’s just the initial setup. What the guests on each individual charter want to eat could impact the bottom line.
“Because each charter is unique, one might have a group of pescatarians that sip on margaritas all day, while the next may have a group that only requests red meat and wine. This is where the provisioning allowance comes into play,” Littlejohn explains. The yacht budgets a certain amount for basic necessities for every charter—think eggs, bread, basic wine—but an additional percentage of the charter rate is added to accommodate requests and preferences.
It's not uncommon for a chef to leave a Michelin-starred restaurant for a yacht because, as one said, “the view is so much better.” But creating a week's worth of interesting and tasty menus for a dozen people takes skill.
“Chefs have become much more seasonal; some prefer the variety of settings between private estates, restaurants, and yachts,” Littlejohn says. “It is also one of the few positions where the individual isn’t looked down upon for short-term positions.”
Charters are ideal for those who like watersports like standup paddleboarding and riding Jetskis, like on Samara.
That envelope full of cash tips? That’s real.
“That is surprising, but crew is actually often tipped from an envelope full of cash!” Littlejohn says. “It might not come directly from a client [at the end of a charter]—often they may wire the gratuity later—but then it is doled out to the crew in cash.”

Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest reflects on Season 3 experience
One Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest has reflected on her Season 3 experience now that her groups’ two-episode stint has aired.
Real estate broker Leisel L. Taylor was part of the group that primary guest McCordia Young brought aboard Parsifal III. The group appeared pretty tame other than an incident with McCordia and stew Gabriela Barragan, which Below Deck Sailing Yacht fans were not happy about.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Leisel L. Taylor reflects on Season 3 experience
In an interview with Travel Noire, Leisel opened up about her groups’ stint on the hit Bravo sailing show. It was a trip of a lifetime for Leisel, McCordia, Aliya, and their friends.
“That was a Beyonce and Jay Z type of vacation. We had our own sailing crew. We had our own private chef, and they just literally catered to us,” Leisel spilled.
The trip was Leisel’s first time on a luxury yacht, and she was not disappointed. Leisel made it clear that the Parsifal III took excellent care of the group.
“It was truly an experience, and the food was amazing. We ate three times a day, and it was basically a four to a six-course meal. Breakfast was like a Four Seasons brunch experience,” she expressed.
Leisel didn’t share too much of her Below Deck Sailing Yacht stint on social media. However, she did share a video of one of her favorite moments from the charter.

How did Leisel end up on Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season?
Along with gushing over her luxury once-in-a-lifetime experience, Leisel revealed she initially had no plans to be on Below Deck Sailing Yacht.
Leisel’s best friend was set to be on the trip, though. When one of the guests had to pull out, Leisel’s friend contacted her to see if she was up for the experience.
“One of the guys who was on the trip, he knew I already had my COVID vaccination, so he asked me if I was interested, and I was like why not? My best girlfriend is going to be there, and I get to hang out with some cool people and go to another country? Absolutely!” Leisel explained.
The rest, as they say, is history, and Below Deck Sailing Yacht charter guest Leisel L. Taylor remains grateful she was part of such a fantastic trip.
Below Deck Sailing Yacht airs Mondays at 8/7c on Bravo.

Below Deck Recap: Leigh-Ann’s Making Waves
Cut the cameras. I want to create a comprehensive family tree of our guests in this style . Yes, we’re getting a low-stakes love triangle with Ben, Leigh-Ann, and Camille, but I am far more interested in why our primary, Jake, is on vacation with his colleagues and his not-quite-sister-in-law while his wife is home with their three kids. And, lucky for me, so is Fraser.
Hmm … how to describe this group? As they roll up to the boat, Katie says she feels as if she were back in South Florida. What a read! I didn’t know Katie had it in her. Jake and Crystal, his “sister-in-law,” take the primary cabin. Right away, I have questions. How are they in-laws? Where are their spouses? Fraser has these same questions and takes it upon himself to go on a fact-finding mission. While bartending, he asks Crystal innocuous questions about the group. Mark and Angel, who are Jake’s colleagues, are sharing a room. Claire and Albron are a couple. I believe Albron is one of Jake’s colleagues. Olivia and Josh, who is allegedly Jake’s brother-in-law, are a couple and sharing a cabin. (We, unfortunately, don’t discover the details of Josh and Jake’s relationship. Is Olivia his sister? That seems to be the only logical explanation, but anything goes). And then there’s Jake and Crystal. Crystal clarifies that Jake’s wife is her best friend, like a sister, she says. They’re not even really in-laws! Fraser so innocently asks so where is she then? Crystal responds that she’s back in Chicago, at home with their three kids. I’m sorry, but I need to know more. Why is Crystal on this charter? Why isn’t Jake’s wife aboard? How is Josh related to Jake? Does Crystal have a partner? Crystal is allegedly sleeping on the couch in Jake’s room, but that’s not even the point. I’m not puritanical, just deeply curious about how this dynamic came to be and what’s going on behind the scenes. Maybe I’m nosier than usual, but those who keep up with Vanderpump Rules will understand.
We have a little more intel to work with: At dinner, we learn that Jake and his wife, within their first year of dating, moved in together, got engaged, and got pregnant. Fraser feels weird about this information and decides to dig with discretion.
What else is noteworthy about our guests? Angel, a.k.a. Satan, is a douche with a drinking problem. He barks at Hayley to take his plate away and doesn’t even look Fraser in the eye when ordering a double shot of tequila. He also requests a “bloody mary inside of a bloody mary,” which is just his way of saying “two bloody marys.” This type of phrasing seems to be permanently etched into his vocabulary. Earlier, he says he wants a “tequila inside of a tequila inside of a tequila.” I bet he thinks this is clever. To make matters worse, he calls himself a Luddite and claims he hates sand and salt water while on the beach. Sure. Karma comes for us all, however, and he slips and slams his ass and back against the deck on the first night. The next morning, he says he’s bruised but can’t remember why.
I know letting loose is part of the charter experience, but this group’s drinking is concerning. Their first lunch is a cocktail pairing, and they get hammered so fast. I don’t want them getting too close to the edge! This feels like an accident waiting to happen. I’m curious about Bravo’s insurance policy regarding drinking across all their shows …
Meanwhile, our love triangle is pretty low stakes. Camille is physically out of the picture, and there’s only a week left of the charter season. What’s the worst that could happen? Realistically, Camille won’t find out about Leigh-Ann until after the fact (not that I’m condoning that). Leigh-Ann is not leaving without hooking up with Ben, that’s for sure, but it’s not like Ben is pushing her away. Hayley recaps what went down with Camille for Leigh-Ann, who doesn’t care because they’re not officially together. “The plot thickens … This is going to be horrific, isn’t it?” asks Hayley. Honestly, only moderately horrific, I think! Ben is still planning on seeing Camille in the Dominican Republic once the season wraps and realizes he will have to tell both women about each other. Leigh-Ann isn’t totally in the dark; she probes Ben about Camille, and he doesn’t exactly ride for her. Ben and Leigh-Ann text throughout the charter, work late shifts together, and flirt pretty heavily. They also reread their DMs to each other. They’re both so horny I bet they’ll hook up multiple times in the next episode. Tony is convinced more drama is on the horizon, reminding us that the ghost of Camille is right over there .
Katie projects her past onto Leigh-Ann and Ben and decides she’s not okay with Ben hiding the truth. He’s obsessed with Camille and needs to come clean about her, she says. Maybe I love mess, but it’s not as if he and Camille are engaged or even officially dating? And Leigh-Ann is aware of her existence? Perhaps Katie should focus her efforts on Ross, who seems to be on a completely different page than her regarding their “relationship.” I have to hand it to the Bravo producers: This editing of their talking-head interviews is excellent. They couldn’t be more unaligned.
Ross: I just want to have physical fun. Katie: It’s evident our connection is getting stronger. Ross: I’m definitely happier when I’m having sex for sure. Kaite: It’s more serious than just playing around at work. Ross: Sex hasn’t been regular enough recently.
The rest of the crew is in great spirits, though, with Captain Lee even saying so much to Rachel. He’s impressed with the cohesiveness and gives Captain Sandy credit where it’s due: “Obviously, she did something right.” These two! Are you feuding? Or are you on good terms? I am choosing to believe, for my own sanity, that it’s all water under the bridge.
From the Galley
• The potato-sack race on the beach is objectively funny, as is Leigh-Ann spelling “Moscow Mules” as “Moscule Mules.”
• Leigh-Ann and Fraser’s power struggle is starting, and I hope Fraser’s able to stop it before it gets unwieldy. It’s time to put those learnings from Captain Sandy into action!
• What prompted Camille’s text to Ben? Is a producer acting as a double agent, or was it just simply perfect timing?
• I never knew that bringing bananas on a fishing boat was bad luck, so thank you for that, Captain Lee!
