MarineMax Acquires Fraser Yachts
“The acquisition of Fraser is significant for MarineMax as it dramatically increases our presence and strength in the strategically important superyacht category. Second, it expands our international capabilities and footprint, unlocking other potential future opportunities,” W. Brett McGill, chief executive officer and president of MarineMax, Inc., said. “We are very excited about adding Fraser and its team to MarineMax. Fraser is clearly the leader in the services it offers and we intend that it will operate in the future as it has historically. We are happy that Paolo and Roberto will remain with Fraser as their years of experience are invaluable.”
Azimut was founded in 1969 and purchased Benetti in 1985. Azimut has been represented by MarineMax in the United States since 2006. In addition to the purchase of Fraser, MarineMax further strengthened their relationship with Benetti Yachts by signing a multi-year deal to become the exclusive dealer of Benetti’s yachts in North America. “We are also very excited to add the Benetti Class of yachts to our luxury motoryacht offering. The history and product of Benetti separates the brand from other yachts and will allow for a great migration for many of our customers who are seeking larger and more luxurious yachts,” McGill added.

Biography of Archibald E. Fraser
Archibald E. Fraser (d. 1976) was a yacht broker in Stonington, Connecticut from 1945-1975. He died in 1976.
It has been said that a yacht brokerage can be very much like the real estate business. Listings are acquired for yachts and kept in up to date files. The broker then tries to match up a particular boat with a buyer’s financial situation and other particular preferences. If a sale is made the broker receives approximately 10% commission, which is split when multiple listings are shared with other brokers.
In addition to selling yachts a broker will usually offer a charter service. This also requires up to date listings of boats available for charter, as well as accurate knowledge of the boat and owner (and the crew if they are included).
A third area in the brokerage business is marine insurance. Usually a broker will act as an agent for a larger company. In A.E. Fraser’s case he represented Chubb & Sons, and Federal Insurance Co., although there is little record of this activity in the Fraser Papers.
Arrangement
The first eleven boxes contain listings arranged primarily by yacht name, and by type (power or sail). Included are brochures, letters, listing forms, etc. Boxes 12 and 13 contain letters, charter agreements, advertisements, etc., relative to yacht charters. This material is arranged by boat type, and some material is broken down by charter companies. The next 2 boxes contain Mr. Fraser’s general correspondence, primarily to and from other brokers, arranged chronologically between 1945-1975. The last 5 boxes have miscellaneous items relative to yachts and the brokerage business.

Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce earns historic sprint double in Moscow
Jamaica’s medal tally at the 14 th IAAF World Games in Moscow has increased to five, 3 gold, one silver and one bronze.
This following the performances of Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and the men’s mile relay team on yesterday’s seventh day of action at the championships.
Fraser-Pryce became the third woman in history to win the sprint double after clocking 22.17 seconds to take gold in the women’s 200 meters ahead of Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast and blessing Okagbare of Nigeria.
Drawn in lane 4 with danger woman Allyson Felix behind, the women’s 200m final was expected to be very competition. Fraser-Pryce, who was well aware that only a fast start and good curve would get the job done, went about her business in similar fashion. Felix tried to follow the fast starter, but pulled just before she could straighten, which left Fraser-Pryce without any challenge.
“It was very hard, but for me, lots of hard work went into me taking the double here,” said Fraser-Pryce in describing the end results.
Murielle Ahoure of Ivory Coast took another silver in 22.32, the same time as Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare.
Fraser-Pryce, who joined East Germans Silke Gladisch (1987) and Katrin Krabbe (1991) to win the sprint double, had time to ease down across the line in jubilation.
“Last year was an experience for me doing the double in London and it really helped me to be successful here,” she continued while adding “and the fact I did so well in the 100m, I had a little confidence going in, because I want to blast that first 100m like it was nobody’s business.”
In the men’s 4×400 meters event, Javon Francis produced a stunning run, which took Jamaica from fifth on the anchor leg, to silver behind USA. Francis got the and immediately went after the leading pack, and by time he reached the backstretch, moved into second place.
The Jamaican team, which also included Rusheen McDonald, Edino Steele and Omar Johnson, stopped the clock in a season best 2:59.88 behind USA, anchored by LaShawn Merritt, 2:58.71, a world leading time.
Trinidad & Tobago with Jehue Gordon on anchor did 3:01.74 for 6th while Russia got the bronze medal with 2:59.90
Damar Forbes, the other Jamaican who contested a final on the day, finished 8th in the men’s long jump event with a jump of 8.02 meters.
Action in the semifinals of the men’s 200 meters saw defending champion Usain Bolt, Warren Weir and Nickel Ashmeade advancing to the final.
