Constant warm tradewinds at 10-20 knots provide excellent sailing. BVI is popular all year round with temperatures staying a balmy 30 o C. but the best time to come is November to June. In summer winds tend to be lighter with greater humidity, but there’s still plenty of sunshine. There is a risk of tropical storms mainly during August and September.
There are very few marinas in the BVIs so most nights you are on anchor in a bay with a classic Caribbean white sand and palm tree beach. In many places there are laid buoys which cost US$30/night but give you a safe mooring within minutes of sailing into the bay.
We have rated this destination a 'Level 1' (levels info) .
Flights to tortola (beef island), bvi.
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic have direct flights from Gatwick to Antigua. Inter-Caribbean operates connecting direct flights from Antigua to Tortola (Beef Island).
Scrub Island is a 10-minute ferry ride away from Tortola's Trellis Bay Dock via the resort's private launch. Ferries run from 06:45-22:30 Trellis Bay to Scrub Island and 06:30-22:15 Scrub Island to Trellis Bay. Trellis Bay is just a 5-minute walk from the airport.
The British Virgin Islands are a fantastic place to experience a sail and stay holiday. With daily flights, you can really make the most of your time in the Caribbean and combine a yacht charter with a hotel stay in the BVI or even Antigua.

This was my second time sailing in the British Virgin Islands. The first was 5 years ago. This time I returned with a large group of friends (11 in total) and an even larger catamaran (Fountaine Pajot 47 “Island Nomad”) to a fully reopened BVI in the build up to just before Christmas for a special ‘Big BVI Birthday’ celebration with a capital ‘B’.
Half the crew arrived by ferry into Road Town from the USVIs as they were travelling from Florida. The European contingent flew into Antigua the day before and caught an early connection to Tortola with Inter-Caribbean. The flight is only an hour but the propellor plane will always be a novelty.
With a large crew we made quick work of loading the pre-ordered provisioning from Riteway, securing the watersports Equipment provided by BVI SUP Co, and acquiring a quick take-out lunch from Omar’s Café in the marina. After a full briefing we departed Nanny Cay Marina promptly at 15:00 and headed to our first night’s stop.
It was a rather wet and windy short stint heading into the wind to reach the soft sandy shores of Cooper Island Beach Club. It is the perfect combination of relaxed beach-side atmosphere and comfortable dining, the highlight being their rum bar with a collection of over 280 rums.
There is a combination of bookable and ‘first-come, first-serve’ available at Cooper Island but it is a popular first or last-nights stop you do need to be a little organised and pre-book a ball (USD$55) early if you know you will be arriving later in the day.
We set off early (upwind again!) to make the most of the day and get to Virgin Gorda early so we could explore the famous 'Baths' before the cruise ship crowds from Tortola arrived. A protected area of natural beauty with globally distinctive rock formations, only found elsewhere in the world in the Seychelles, this is a true highlight of the BVI. You can pick up a national park mooring buoy for free during the day (subject to availability) and it is possible to dinghy your crew ashore but you cannot leave vessels on the beach so some more adventurous crew do need to swim for it!
Finally on a relaxing point of sail, we enjoyed a relaxing lunch and afternoon sunbathing under the sails on a broad reach heading towards our pre-booked mooring ball for the night. After a long day exploring everyone was content to have a low-key BBQ dinner from B-Line Beach Grill, the only resident of Little Jost van Dyke. The food was fantastic and the homemade rum dangerously delicious.
Dodging some early morning showers with beach Jenga at Foxy’s Taboo restaurant, we took a window of sunshine to scramble over to ‘Bubbly Pool’; nature’s answer to a jacuzzi. It turns out big kids enjoy giant beach games and a wave pool just as much as children.
After a short sail back over to Tortola we spent the afternoon by the beach using our Kayak, SUPs and bobbing around the yacht in our Sunchill (the ultimate water hammock for your group to enjoy).
Almost mid-week and in need of water we decided to tuck into Soper’s Hole for a calm night of re- provisioning. Our pre-booked dock space at the wharf cost US $130 including power and water for the night. Stocking up on any provisions we were lacking (namely beer) was possible at the Riteway supermarket located conveniently opposite our yacht. We made the mandatory stop for sundowner cocktails at 'Pusser's landing' pub and were delighted to find another 'Omar's Fusion Cafe' for dinner which had great selection for everyone’s diverse tastes.
As the Tradewinds blow 24/7 in the Caribbean we were able to have a fantastic sail back over to Jost Van Dyke, even early in the morning, so that we could get a prime spot anchored off White Bay beach at breakfast. The wind was due to pick up a lot today so we decided to take it easy tucked away in this sheltered anchorage. This is one of our favourite spots and we spent the day swimming and snorkelling from the famous 'Soggy Dollar' beach bar with great cocktails and the best beach hut food.
There is a lot of space for a secure overnight buoy in the next bay, but to give ourselves maximum time at White Bay and still secure a shore-side location for minimal dinghy taxiing we pre-booked a mooring ball again. Dinner was a casual but tasty affair at Foxy's but we did skip Karaoke for a night’s well-earned rest after a full day of partying.
After a few hours of sailing upwind, the crew had all earned a relaxing lunch swinging on anchor in another beautiful bay. This island is privately owned by a resort but all beaches are public so as long as you stay at the shoreline you can enjoy this perfectly pristine and usually completely empty beach all to yourselves. There is a fantastic snorkelling spot at Monkey Point that you can reach by dinghy if you are feeling more adventurous.
The services on Marina Cay have just recently reopened for business in 2023 and it has reestablished itself as a lovely little stop. Well-connected to Tortola by a ferry service it is a great option for mid- charter crew changes if you have anyone needing the airport. There are more snorkelling buoys nearby for your dinghy and we took the opportunity to enjoy a group sunset snorkel before dinner. The coral here is really something to see, as well as the turtles. The restaurant food was also top quality, resulting in several crew members developing a new fondness for lobster rolls.
When looking for somewhere special to celebrate the ‘Big Birthday’, Bitter End Yacht Club was the strong choice, and they were so helpful planning a special evening for our group. Starting with a group rum tasting and exclusive use of their top deck Quarterdeck bar, with views over the North Sound. We followed up with dinner under our own private dining gazebo, and the staff really knew how to look after you.
The resort has several all-day dining & bar options, an extensive offering of water-sports equipment, regular activities like beach Olympics and SUP yoga. It also comes equipped with a local delicatessen grocery store and gift shop. The dockage here is around US $300 including power and water for a large catamaran but you can also take one of their mooring buoys for the standard rate.
To reinvigorate ourselves the following morning, the brave members of the crew set of on an early hike to take in the views of North Sound. The newly marked trail was only about an hour but included enough incline to earn the views, and our breakfast.
On our last full day, we enjoyed a long down-wind sail, cruising along the waves with the catamaran is just how Caribbean sailing is supposed to be. Before arriving at Norman Island, we come to ‘The Indians’ and pick up a National Park mooring buoy for some of the best snorkelling we have experienced anywhere.
Picking up a buoy in ‘The Bight’ bay on Norman Island, our original plan was to enjoy a few cocktails at the famous 'Willy T' boat bar before moving onto ‘Pirate’s Bight’ restaurant for dinner. However, the atmosphere was too much fun watching the live show of ‘jumpers’ from the top deck that we couldn’t help but join in and before we knew it, we were devouring our last Caribbean cuisine still in our swimwear onboard, not having left the Willy T!
Truly maximising our trip we did not need to return to the marina until the morning of our final day. A short racing reach back to Tortola had us in the harbour by 10.00 with plenty of time for re- fuelling, check-out and disembarkation by noon. We had time for one last quick lunch before the crew sadly had to disband, returning to the airport for an afternoon flight back to Antigua or onwards to other islands to continue the celebrations for Christmas.

Suggested sailing itinerary: the caribbean.
7 DAYS The Caribbean sailing route
The 7-day sailing route that includes Norman Island, Cooper Island, Trellis Bay, Virgin Gorda, Peter Island and much more.
Your Caribbean journey starts at a place called The Bight (Norman Island). To get to there, you will have to pass the Sir Francis Drake Channel and two islands, The Indians and the Pelican Island. The Bight offers you everything you could need to start the journey: a well protected area with good anchorage spots, a couple of restaurants (most popular being Pirates and Willy-T) and sport activities. From there, we suggest you visit The Caves, a national park nearby rich with sea life that you can explore by snorkeling. Head back to The Bight for an overnight stay.
The next stop is The Indians, a nearby island that you passed by the day before. You will be amazed by the beautiful natural rock formations and rich sea life (time to go snorkeling again!). On your way to the Cooper Island, visit The Wreck of The Rhone close to the Salt Island for more sea life exploration. Your anchorage spot for the night is in Manchioneel Bay close-by. There you can enjoy more water sport activities or just relax by the beach in a restaurant.
Going once again through the Sir Francis Drake Channel, you will approach Virgin Gorda, an island which you will explore in several locations. You will moor in The Baths, from where you can explore the “eighth wonder of the world” as some people like to call it: it is the sea area around the island, with many tunnels, caves and rock formations. After The Baths, continue sailing towards Trellis Bay, where your anchorage spot for the night will be. Once there, you can enjoy in gastronomic offer and the local nightlife. If you want to spend some quiet time, we suggest anchoring in the Marina Cay.
Moving to your next stop on Virgin Gorda, North Sound. On your way there, we suggest you stop by the Dogs islets, a national park with rich sea life and abundant nature. At North Sound you will find numerous gastronomic and nautical offers as there are many restaurants and marinas. Some of the iconic places are Bitter End Yacht Club, Leverick Bay, Saba Rock and Birds Creek. Besides that, you can spend some time enjoying the surroundings: you could go turtle spotting or just lay back and relax.
The next destination, Jost Van Dyke, is the farthest one to sail to, so we suggest you first stop at the national park Monkey Point (Guana Island) to enjoy the crystal sea, hot sun and local wildlife. Continue your journey towards Jost Van Dyke, where you will anchor for the night. It is a great family-friendly place where you can enjoy a nice dinner while watching the sunset. The most iconic places are Foxy and Soggy Dollar Bar.
On your last day of sailing, it is time to get some gifts and souvenirs! That you can do at Soper’s Hole. After that, continue to Deadman’s Bay (Peter Island) to enjoy the last glimpse of Caribbean wonders. Feel free to climb to the top in order to view the islands from above, but make sure you don’t stay there for the night as it can be unsafe. Great Harbor is a better anchorage spot and it will give you a quieter ambiance in a local atmosphere.
On the last day you can explore the rich sea life, as there are a lot of reefs and tropical fish. After that, disembark across the channel at Joma Marina in Road Town.

Known as the sailing vacation capital of the world –for good reason—the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a picturesque group of islands in the Caribbean that check off all the elements of what makes a perfect Caribbean sailing vacation – ideal tropical weather, consistent winds, stunning islands, line of sight navigation, abundant nature, and as much relaxation or beach party adventure spots as you desire.
A BVI yacht charter is probably the best first-timer charter destination in the world. The sailing is easy and the wind is consistent. The second would be the Ionians in Greece. But those that love it (everyone does) keep coming back over and over.

We’ve been there.
In fact, we’ve done a BVI yacht charter again and again (and again), there is a good reason – easy sailing – warm water – no big hazards to worry about – a great first-time location.
Go snorkeling at the Indians, explore at The Baths, dine at Cooper Island Beach Club, get your money wet swimming to the Soggy dollar, listen to reggae at Foxy’s, jump up and down at the Jumbie party in north bay Virgin Gorda, have a drink or ten at The Willie Tee’s, and so so much more. You can’t do it all in a week but if you keep coming back, maybe you can experience most of it.

The BVI is generally a year-round destination.
The BVI has a tropical climate with delightfully warm and easily swimmable water temperatures all year around. Air temperature rarely gets above 90 °F (30°C) and rarely below 75 °F (24°C). The wettest months are August through November although mostly from thunderstorms rolling quickly through and so the sunshine hours remain high.
The months of July and August can be a bit balmy and so an air conditioning unit on your boat is recommended. Hurricane season is September and October but it is rare for the BVI. In the last 20 years, only 4 have hit. These days with weather technology, you have at least 5 days notice to vacate the area or not travel there. Charter companies usually give you credit for any time lost due to a hurricane.
High tourist season for the BVI is Christmas and New Year. Book at least 9 months in advance if you are looking for this time and expect prices to be high. January, February, and March have delightful weather and are also considered high season.
Cooper Island Beach Club is possibly one of the best dining experiences in the Caribbean – it’s on Cooper Island (duh). There are some other fun and delicious restaurants around and it is doubtful you’ll have a poor experience anywhere in the BVI. Consequently, you’ll find that you’ll be eating out many evenings.
Provisioning: Here is a great article and resource for provisioning in the BVI . We highly recommend using the online resources given to take care of sundry items. This saves a lot of time and lugging around. Usually, we top off with a quick visit to select our own veggies and fruits etc.
There are also other places on your itinerary to top up if you’re getting low. In particular Cane Garden Bay has a decent grocery store on the back street as well as Spanish Town on Virgin Gorda.
Get the BVI Chart Briefing Course here. This speeds up your check-in time at the base.
Fly into either:
The STT airport can be a mess when trying to leave to go back home so arrive at least 2.5 hours prior to flight.
The Yacht Charters companies are all over Tortola but any taxi will easily take you from the airport or ferry terminal.

Sailing skill levels.
Local Knowledge + Education: as Sailing Vacation Experts, NauticEd’s team has chartered and sailed in almost all these locations – providing you with the “local knowledge” you need when planning a sailing vacation. And, as the leader in sailing education, NauticEd assigns different skill levels based on the knowledge-theory and practical/experience needed for chartering in different sailing locations.
Recommended Knowledge-Theory Courses for chartering: Bareboat Charter Master Bundle (six bareboat and near coastal courses), Catamaran Sailing Confidence (if chartering a Cat), Yacht Charter Crew Course (for your crew).
Skill Levels notably emphasize the overall practical experience and competency that is required to sail in certain areas. Of course, the “devil’s in the details” on specifics, and we recommend you contact us when planning a sailing vacation. We’ll save you money on your vacation – which is great – but being prepared to have safe fun experiences that will last a lifetime is priceless!
• Intermediate = Near Coastal navigation hazards (always be aware), and generally mild weather conditions. Good seapersonship (i.e., “seamanship”) skills, knowledge, and experience apply.
• Intermediate +Plus = Near Coastal clear atmospheric conditions, moderate navigation hazards , and/or challenging weather . Good seapersonship skills, knowledge, and experience apply.
• Advanced = Near Coastal clear atmospheric conditions, many navigation hazards , and/or potentially difficult weather . Expert seapersonship skills, knowledge, and experience apply.
*Atmospheric conditions: from the deck of a sailboat, your “visible horizon” is about 12nm on a clear day (considering typical freeboard + your height). Visibility is decreased by haze, fog, rain, smoke, and similar atmospheric considerations. Navigating by line of sight is obviously greater if your destination has features such as mountains, lighthouses, tall buildings, etc…
*Navigational hazards may include features such as rocks, shoals, rough inlets or anchorages, challenging tides and currents, lee shores, commercial traffic, etc…
*Weather: examples of challenging or difficult weather include thunder/lightning storms, areas prone to high winds, or even seasonal risks such as excessive heat.

Maverick is our 2017 Bavaria 34 charter yacht designed by Farr Yacht design to be a capable family cruiser.
Built to a high German standard in Germany itself, Maverick has a roller furling main and genoa, with all control lines easy to hand in the cockpit. The genoa winches have been moved aft to ensure easy trimming by the helm or crew, meaning you can be under full sail in just a few minutes. As the 34 carries her beam well aft, she benefits from twin wheels – great for helming visibility, with the added bonus of direct access to the transom swim platform, without any clambering around a single wheel. A full Garmin electronics suite, including a cockpit chart plotter, makes navigation a breeze.
Below decks, Maverick has beautiful Sipo Mahogany joinery and finishings, light oak-colored cabin sole, and cream real leather upholstery. The galley, with stove, hob, and fridge is to starboard and with three surprisingly generous double cabins, there is more than enough room for family and friends. The 34 is responsive on the helm, easily sailed short-handed, and is the perfect yacht for a fabulous week (or more) of cruising around the islands.

The Jeanneau Cruiser 490 ‘After Physics’ is a sleek modern cruising yacht available for charter in the British Virgin Islands with Horizon Yacht Charters.
This state-of-the-art Jeanneau 490 has a sleek metallic blue-grey hull with white cove and double boot stripes, white decks, and a light bright oak interior. Ample hatches, ports, and deadlights for a clean airy modern interior. The Jeanneau 490 sleeps 6 in three cabins with two heads and has 2 additional berths if the dinette is converted. The forward master has a centerline walk-around queen berth with a separate ensuite vanity/head and shower. All heads onboard are electric and there is excellent hanging and drawer storage. There are two double cabins aft and the nav station is located port aft with a second dinette/seating area. The galley is forward to port, the second head is starboard aft accessible from the salon and starboard cabin.
She carries her beam well aft, so not only do you benefit from a huge cockpit, (with a full coverage bimini) but the twin rudders necessitated by the wide beam also give ‘4×4’ steering under sail. The shoal draft 5’5” keel allows access to virtually any mooring ball in the BVIs. The 490 is equipped with roller furling mainsail and genoa, with all control lines led aft to inboard-mounted primary electric winches, in addition to the electric coach roof winch, so you can be under full sail, shorthanded, in under 2 minutes. There is a full array of Raymarine electronics, including autopilot, chart plotter, radar, wind speed, depth, and boat speed of course.
There is a U-shaped galley forward of the navigation station on the port side which features deep double sinks, a 3 burner LPG stove with oven, a large refrigerator with double access from the counter and front door, a large freezer drawer, a microwave, a clever flush dish & glass storage cabinets, and trash receptacle. Sleek and clean.

The lagoon 42 catamaran features:.
Performance package - downwind sails.
The Nautitech 44 Open is the latest design in the Nautitech lineup to get really excited about!
This new design builds on the successful Nautitech ‘Open’ concept and so delivers a ‘wide grin’ sailing performance. The 44 Open is probably the fastest cruising catamaran available for a bareboat charter. She can point higher than any other cruising cat (that does not have daggerboards -which consume interior space), thanks to her high aspect sail plan, tight sheeting angles, high aspect rudders, a draft of 4ft 9“and an excellent sail area to displacement ratio. The Open 44 remains stable, comfortable, and downright fun to sail on and off the wind.
Optimized cruising speeds are a result of the low wetted surface area enabled by narrow, hydrodynamic hulls below the waterline. While the hard-chined stepped hulls above the waterline give more interior living space.
You have an unobstructed view of the sails and the sea thanks to the double aft helm station positions; you can communicate and enjoy the sailing with all the crew members in the cockpit.
In a change from the design of the Open 40, the lower mainsheet track positioning is easy to adjust and see for perfect sail trim from the helm station. A low boom above the coach roof allows for extra efficiency from the mainsail, more sail area and easy access to the sail bag. The high aspect furling, and self-tacking jib, with all control lines led aft to electric winches for both sails, means the 44 Open is a breeze to sail short-handed.
There is rich joinery in the interior of the 44 Open which gives a warm and modern ambience aboard. The cockpit flows seamlessly into the saloon (the ethos of the Open concept) giving you the ideal indoor/outdoor living space for a yacht in the tropics. The galley conjoins the saloon and cockpit, so matter where the crew are, the chef is part of the socialising. The interior saloon area is cosy and offers a modular seating arrangement with cushioned cubes that can be moved around into a day bed, a footrest, or stools.
With the almost 360-degree view from the entrance of the saloon, you can happily escape (rare!) inclement weather or socialize at the cockpit table whilst still keeping an eye on your surroundings.
Thanks to a double-drawer fridge, cockpit fridge and freezer unit, there is excellent fridge capacity aboard.
Both hulls feature 2 cabins. The aft cabin has a queen-sized island bed and the forward cabin has a forward-facing double bed.
The seamlessly integrated companionway benefits from extra storage lockers. Both hulls have separate shower units and toilets allowing for easy living between guests. The toilet unit also has its own hand basin.
There is an integrated solar array on the coach roof as well as solar panels mounted on the dinghy davits. This removes the requirement to run your engine or generator to charge the lithium batteries on board on sunny days.

Residents of Novosibirsk love trains and are proud of the fact that their city played a significant role in the history of the grand Trans-Siberian railway, which spans the breadth of Russia. The railway is such a part of Novosibirsk identity that it is even depicted on the city’s emblem, along with the bridge that crosses the Ob river and two Siberian sables standing on their hind legs.
In the city, there are as many as five monuments to trains, and an open-air locomotive museum is located in the vicinity of the train station Seyatel’. The museum has more than 100 steam locomotives, diesel locomotives and carriages, reflecting the history of rail transportation in Russia from pre-revolutionary times to the present day. Wondering around the stationary trains and comparing your height with the diameter of the gigantic iron wheels of the first steam locomotives is all very well, but why not climb inside the carriages and see how the nobility once traveled across Russia in pre-revolutionary times? These tours will however need to be booked in advance. The museum opens from 11:00 until 17:00 every day except Mondays.
Novosibirsk spans both sides of the river Ob. In the early twentieth century, the border of two different timezones passed right through the city which led to a strange situation- morning on the east bank started one hour earlier than on the west bank! The two-kilometer covered metro bridge that crosses the river is considered the longest in the world. Due to the fluctuations in temperature across the year (on average +30 °C to -30 °C), during the summer the metro bridge expands, and in the winter it contracts by half a meter. To counter these effects, the bridge’s supports are equipped with special rollers that allow it to move.
The repertoire of the theatre can be viewed on its official website . The theatre season runs from September to July, and comprises mainly classical performances, like the ballet “The Nutcracker” by Tchaikovsky, Borodin’s opera “Prince Igor” and Verdi’s “La Traviata”.
Weekends are best spent at the Novosibirsk zoo . The zoo is known for breeding big cats, although surrounded by controversy, hosts a successful crossing of a tiger and lion, which of course would not otherwise breed in wildlife. Ligers, or exotic cubs of an African lion and Bengal tigress, feel quite comfortable in the Siberian climate and even produce offspring. The zoo is open to visitors year-round, seven days a week, and even has its own free mobile app, Zoo Nsk .
Every year at the beginning of January, the festival of snow culture takes place bringing together artists from across Russia and around the world to participate in a snow sculpting competition. The tradition started in 2000 inspired by the snow festival in Sapporo, Novosibirsk’s twin-city.
Despite the fact that Akademgorodok was built half a century ago in the middle of the uninhabited Siberian taiga, architecturally it was ahead of its time. No trees were destroyed for its construction, and houses were built right in the middle of the forest. A man walking through the woods would seemingly stumble upon these structures. At that time, no one had built anything similar in the world and ecovillages only became fashionable much later.
For residents of the Novosibirsk Akademgorodok is a different world. When you step out the bus or car, you are immediately on one of the hiking paths through the forest, between the scientific buildings and clubs. On a walk through Akademgorodok, it is possible to unexpectedly encounter art-like objects handmade by residents of the city which have been erected as monuments and some monuments fixed up by city authorities. For example, the monument to the laboratory mice, which knits a strand of DNA on to some needles, can be found in the square alongside the Institute of Cytology and Genetics. In Akademgorodok there are many cafes and restaurants, in which it is possible to rest after a long walk. Grab a coffee and go to eat at Traveler’s Coffee , or eat lunch at the grille and bar People’s or Clover .
Winters in the Akademgorodok are slightly colder than in the city, so wrap up. Spring and summer are usually wetter, so waterproof boots are recommended. In the summer the Ob sea provides respite from the heat, so do not forget your swimsuit to go for a dip.
Among the exhibits of the museum is one dedicated to world funeral culture — hearses, memorial jewellery from the hair of the deceased, samples from a specific photo-genre of "post mortem", a collection of funeral wear from the Victorian era, deathmasks, statues and monuments. There’s also an impressive collection of coffins. One of them, resembling a fish, was manufactured on a special visit to Novosibirsk by a designer coffin-maker from Africa, Eric Adjetey Anang, who specializes in the production of unusual coffins.
Surprisingly, the crematorium itself does not look at all gloomy in appearance and definitely does not look like infernal scenes from movies, or like crematoriums of other cities that gravitate towards gloomy temple aesthetics. The Novosibirsk crematorium is decorated in “cheerful” orange tones and is surrounded by a park with a children’s playground nearby. A visit to the museum then leaves you with mixed feelings.
Tourists from all over the world go down into the Moscow metro to take a ride and a few selfies in the most famous underground museum. The Novosibirsk metro is also quite a museum in itself — it has 13 stations, the most beautiful of which is Gagarinskaya, Sibirskaya and Rechnoy Vokzal.
The ultramodern Gagarinskaya station is like a real cosmos underground. Its technologically themed design includes marble walls with metallic elements, dark blue backlighting and portraits of Yuri Gagarin. The Sibirskaya station looks like an underground treasure trove, decorated by Altai masters craftsmen with mosaics of precious Siberian stones. The Rechnoy Vokzal station is framed with ten glowing stained glass windows depicting the largest cities of Siberia, including Novosibirsk itself, Omsk, Barnaul and others. The platform resembles a big ship sailing on the Ob, from which ancient Siberian cities are visible through its windows.
The easiest way to get to Novosibirsk is by plane with Aeroflot or Novosibirsk airline S7 with one-way tickets from Moscow costing from 200-250 USD. If you decide to take from the train from Moscow, you’ll have to travel approximately a third of the Trans-Siberian Railway. That’s 3,300 kilometers over almost a three-day journey.
There are many great hotels in Novosibirsk. Amongst the best include a four-star Doubletree hotel by Hilton , which is located near Lenin Square (per room from $200). After renovations and repairs, the congress-hotel Novosibirsk has improved (per room from $100) and is located across from the train station. Less expensive but of a similar standard is the four-star River Park hotel near Rechnoy Vokzal metro station, which costs $80 per night.
