Considering a last minute Yacht club cabin

We had to cancel our Celebrity cruise this week due to illness and would like to do a last minute cruise, beginning of december.  The the best option both in price and cabin type keeps popping up on Maravigila and Virtosa.  Yacht Club duplex and Maravigila and Yachtclub Deluxe suite on Virtosa.  

BUT, we were on MSA last year, non yacht club, and i have to say, one of the worst cruises we have ever been on.  I wrote a review on here if you search on my user name.  But what i have read, is yacht club is night and day from general pop and you really dont have to leave that are other than for the Casino or theater. Basically a ship within the ship.  We did do NCL haven a couple years ago which is suppose to be similar, but i didnt feel like i could stay in that area the whole time.  

Thought on a second change for MSC base on this info?  We are both very hesitant based on our last MSC cruise, but the price is really good. Almost too good...

Other optios HAL Nieuw Ansterdam Vista suite, NCL Getaway haven.

We really like the YC on MSC.  There is a restaurant, pool deck with bar and food buffet.  They even cooked fish and meat to order.  They have a great set sail lounge that also has a bar, snacks and even live entertainment in the evenings.  I also liked the concierge area that can answer any questions and seemed to be open 24 hours!!!  I could board the ship and never leave the YC.  I have done the Suites areas on many ships and MSC is just as good as the Haven, Retreat and RCL suites areas.  

I had my first Yacht Club experience on the Seashore this year. My husband and I looked at each other at the end of the cruise and said that we preferred it to the NCL Haven.

Everything you need is in the YC , we left, as you said, only for the casino and the theater. Variety in the restaurant, very attentive butlers, evening entertainment, beautiful pool deck with outdoor grill and outdoor bar, plenty of seating and good size (if a little cool) hot tubs.

Give it a chance, it is very different from main deck experience.

Two Wheels Only

With your options, keep in mind the location of the stateroom. For some people, being outside of the enclave is a major negative. For others, the extra space and extra restroom of the Duplex is worth it.

As for gen-pop vs. Yacht Club, there are good and bad reviews for both. It's just the nature of Cruise Critic. You might need to experience Yacht Club (multiple times  🙂 ) to know if it is worth the added cost.

After my first MSC cruise in a regular balcony I said never again! But I couldn't say no to my daughter when she wanted to try Yacht Club. It was simply amazing. A totally different and wonderful experience. We booked Yacht Club again before we left the ship! Now I am trying to talk my best friend into another cruise with it being Yacht Club. Give it a try.

We love MSC but it doesn’t mean everyone else will share that opinion. All you can do is follow your gut.

Glad you asked. Don't think things have changed much since we stopped sailing HAL or NCL. We were on NCL Breakaway in aft penthouse #9316 and we had to pay for bottled water $144 having paid $9071 for the week. Not enough staff to man the restaurants (4 with Waterfront dining 2 waterfront always closed). Don't tip in advance as heads are moved around the ship.Soiled plates and glasses in corridors, in elevators. No priority boarding at ports of call and only one gangway. Concierge could not promise a date nor time for reservation at Specialty Restaurants.

  HAL Nieuw Amsterdam #7031 Pinnacle suite, booked one of 14 available cabanas which was nice. Alright for a normal steerage cruise line. Has a Neptune lounge which had us sign out how many bottles of water we took each day. Got a bill for $65 after the cruise, but was able to contest the charge with an email stating the Pinnacle Suite bottled water was included at NO charge prior to cruise using a travel agent. Show lounges not large enough to accommodate all that wish to attend.

   Would NEVER cruise MSC outside the Yacht Clubs. Outside the YC in steerage MSC has one of the lowest cruise satisfaction rating in the industry. Inside the YC MSC has the highest rating in cruise satisfaction in the Industry. Butler service is better than that of Regent Seven Sea and it's own sister, cruise line Explora Journeys.

We just got off a B2B on the World Europa in the Yacht Club. It was amazing. The staff and amenities were absolutely top notch and we felt pretty spoiled the entire time. We tried an aft penthouse on the NCL Escape earlier this year and we would pick Yacht Club over the Haven in a heartbeat (and did - booked World America for Nov 2025 while onboard). I loved the food and didn’t feel the need to try out any specialty dining and I almost always do on other lines.   

We also never felt crowded, rushed or had to wait at all for drinks or to be seated. This was pretty amazing considering how full the YC was our second week on board - we somehow stumbled into a term break in Europe and I think that sailing had 390 in YC. The service was still attentive, friendly and fast.

Thank you! This is exactly what I was hoping to hear, and it aligns with what I've been hearing about MSC elsewhere. Funny enough, we have a bit of shared history – I was actually on the same Seascape cruise as you last year, reading your daily updates! Seeing your Yacht Club experience while I was in the non-Yacht Club section definitely left an impression.

After sharing your feedback (and others’ too, even on the Celebrity board!), I think I’ve convinced my wife to give MSC another try. We originally booked on Celebrity’s Summit for this Saturday but had to cancel due to illness. Now, we’re considering the Seascape on November 30 in a Yacht Club deluxe suite. The cabin’s a decent size, and the price is surprisingly affordable—about $5k less than what we had booked with Celebrity. So, why not give it a go?

Sorry to hear about your illness, perhaps this is the silver lining in the cloud! I have sailed in the top suites on the Summit and the experience in the YC is superior in almost every way. Well, the room on Celebrity was bigger but the ship experience - YC vs Retreat - does not compare.
