While the rise in popularity of vintage Rolex watches is of no surprise to aficionados, collectors and industry experts , when it comes to contemporary luxury wristwatches, Rolex is also often the first brand that springs to mind. Not only is the company revered for its precision timekeeping and impeccable craftsmanship, but its name was designed to be memorable.

Rolex's enviable worldwide recognition can be credited in part to the genius of company founder Hans Wilsdorf. When the German-born watch dealer and his brother-in-law, Alfred Davis, set up their London enterprise, in 1905, they called it Wilsdorf & Davis, according to the traditional formula.

But Wilsdorf was determined to come up with another name that was short, would look good on a watch dial and was easy to say and remember in several languages. In 1908, he trademarked the name Rolex, and by 1920, he had moved the company to Geneva and redubbed it as Montres Rolex S.A.

But the main reasons for the brand’s success are its aforementioned commitment to precision and unflagging pursuit of innovation. In 1926, the company introduced the aptly named Oyster model. With a screw-down crown and case back, both fitted with rubber gaskets, this was the first truly waterproof watch.

Five years later, Rolex upped the ante with the Oyster Perpetual . That model’s patented Perpetual movement contained a rotor mechanism enabling it to self-wind. In another trendsetting move, in 1945, the brand debuted the Datejust , with a date window prominently displayed on the dial.

The company’s two most iconic models are sports watches. Although the Submariner , which debuted in 1953, was developed as a dive watch, its waterproof case, solid construction and good looks made it a favorite of adventurers and urbanites alike, including James Bond , who wore it in classics like Dr. No and Goldfinger . The Daytona , the racing chronograph made famous by Paul Newman , is especially sought after by collectors. Newman’s personal Daytona, which hit the auction block in 2017, sold for $17.8 million.

Finding the Right wrist-watches for You

Antique, vintage and luxury wristwatches have captured the hearts and minds of all manner of watch collectors as well as the watchmakers themselves — it's time you found your own.

Certain vintage watches for men and iconic watch designs for women are sought after not only because of their graceful proportions or innovative materials but also because of the illustrious histories of the houses that created them , histories that they stylishly embody.

Bulgari ’s legendary Serpenti watch was on everyone’s list after the collection’s bold bracelet , which technically debuted after the timepiece, graced the wrist of actress Elizabeth Taylor. If anything, elaborately crafted timepieces — the unmistakably boxy silhouette of Cartier Tank watches , the elegant and minimal Calatrava designed by legendary Swiss house Patek Philippe — are even more effective than the shape we associate with traditional wristwatches.

Form watches — the all-encompassing moniker bestowed upon non-round watches — are making headlines and completing contemporary fashionable ensembles the world over. At the same time, both casual fans and careful collectors are drawn to the unbeatable charm of vintage styles , such as the icons designed by Omega that even James Bond can’t resist .

In the early days of watchmaking, watches were fragile enough that they necessitated protection from the elements. Now, wristwatches made of gold and steel can withstand the harshest climates — even 100 meters underwater, in the case of Rolex’s Submariner . Designer Gérald Genta , whose range of clients included Rolex , created for Audemars Piguet the first luxury sports timepiece to be made from stainless steel. First introduced in 1972, the Royal Oak was a perfect choice for blending the form and function that are now synonymous with sports watches.

Are you shopping for a wristwatch? It’s good to keep your needs as well as your specific personal style in mind: A smaller, subtle timepiece is a good fit for small wrists. When will you be wearing your new accessory? There’s a versatile model out there for everyday wear, while a rugged, feature-heavy watch is a safe bet if you’re prone to embarking on all-weather activities in the great outdoors.

Importance of Holidays for Working People

Holidays for working people are somewhat similar to what they mean for students. In fact, they carry more importance to them than students. Though they are adults, they also yearn for the holidays. Why so? They do not get as many holidays as students do.

Most importantly, the holiday no matter how little it gives them a great chance to relax. More so because they work tirelessly for so many hours a day without a break. Some even work when they get home. This makes their schedule very hectic and gives them little time to rest. A holiday fills the gap for this rest.

Read 500 Words Essay on Summer Vacation

Similarly, due to such a hectic schedule working people get less time to spend with their family. They get distanced from them. Holidays are the perfect chance to strengthen their bonds and make amends.

In other words, a working person needs holidays for the smooth functioning of life. Without holidays they will face pressure and won’t be able to be productive when they work non-stop. After all, when a person earns, they must spend it on something recreational from time to time so they also remain happy and work happily.

Thus, we see how holidays play an important role in maintaining a great balance between our work and play. We must try to make the most of the holidays and spend them wisely so we do not waste time. ‘Holiday’ is such a fascinating word that catches the fancy of each one, be it she or he, everybody finds it bliss to go for a holiday. We may be from any walk of life but we quite relate to this term ‘holiday’ equally. Professional people love holidays and children pray for the same. When it comes to holidays every grown-up and the working person acts like a child, desperate to relish the days of holidays. With the odds, if the holiday is cancelled, they will be sad and grumble as a child.

Holidays are rightly known as pressure busters for the people. The normal routine of life requires a few days to relax. The holidays are always welcomed and awaited by all. Holidays give us immense peace and we cherish the memories of these well-spent days for the rest of our lives. Holidays help us in the following ways:

Mental Peace:

We can derive mental harmony and mental calmness by staying at home and also by spending the holiday time with friends and family.

Social Activities:

The students in their holidays can also include the social activities that they do with their loved ones.

Family Trip:

We enjoy a family trip or a family excursion during these holidays.

It is to be understood that gaining money is significant for livelihood, but relaxing the mind to make it function better is also as important. Hence, for the smooth working of life, a break is certainly required.

Essay 1: Essay about Holiday with My Family

This time, in the winters, our small family planned for a holiday in the hills of Darjeeling. This was a much-needed break for the members of this family to remain quite busy in their daily scheduled life. They remain occupied in the strictly disciplined life of either work or study. My little sister and I study in grades 8 and 4, respectively, my father is a deputy manager in his reputed company, and my mother is a working lady and also a housewife. So, you can guess how our life will be in the strict realms of schedule. Thus, this time, my father and I decided on a short trip to the hills.

We started our journey on the 1st of December, 2019. On the way, we played a variety of games. The view over the hills was quite pleasant to watch. When we were on the top of the summits, we looked down at our town, which seemed like a toy town; how small that was from the top!

We clicked pretty snaps of the places, clicked pictures of us, of the local residents there, after which we went to a famous restaurant to eat our afternoon meal. We had the most delightful dumplings and noodles, which were cooked and served to us when still on steam.

As dusk dawned on us, the jungles over the hills seemed to tell us another story of spirits and supernaturals. My sister and I were quite fantasized about this view. We preferred to keep our eyes shut till we reached our destination. It was half-past 8 when we reached the hotel where we would spend the night. The hotel staff was kind people who welcomed us with great warmth. We freshened up and went downstairs to watch their cultural program. The tribes danced to the music of one of their traditional songs, which was quite amazing for us to watch. After this, dinner was served. The dinner was quite rich and they served us in a sophisticated manner. After the tiring day, we decided to call it off and went to sleep.

The next day, we went hiking in the mountains. When we reached the peak of the mountains, it was a very delightful view. We decided to camp for the rest of the day there in the hills. The scenario and being on the lap of nature were quite peaceful and serene.

After the trip, we came down to our town and normalized our lives.

This trip had ushered a sense of great peace and calmness in my mind, which was to be instilled. The memories of the trip were to remain fresh in my mind like the fresh droplets on the leaves.

Essay 2: Essay on Holiday

Holidays have joyous feelings related to them. My favorite holiday is Christmas. I love this holiday because it comes in December, which is also my birth month. There are a lot of exciting things we do during Christmas. We start making preparations for Christmas early before the month starts.

This year, my friends and I made snowmen with snow outside our houses. My dad put up all the lights in the interior and exterior of the house. It was looking really bright and pretty. My mom made a lot of food, cakes, and snacks, and ate with our family. My cousins from the US came over to spend time with us.

Our whole group of family and friends ate and talked and laughed with each other, sitting cozily near the fireplace, with the Christmas tree towering over us. I had a lot of fun. It is one of my best experiences and I hope to feel it again.

My Best Holiday Experience Essay

In writing about the ‘Best Holiday Experience’ Essay, I would say the best holiday I spent was on the sea beach; the sunny weather on the beach of goa was no less than a divine holiday. The best experience of this holiday came from sharing nature’s beauty and also staying at the best resort in Goa.

The holiday is a day off or a few days off from the monotonous routine of the everyday schedule. Holidays are equally loved by students as well as by the working people. Holidays prove to be beneficial to us in many ways when they are spent with memories and good activities.

Holidays are the time for them to do everything they usually can’t do during the rest of the year. Their holiday list is endless. From trips to learning new hobbies and visiting grandparents to playing sports, kids have so much to share. It will be a good writing exercise for kids as they write an essay on their holiday fun.

All kids love to talk about how they spent or will be spending their holidays. However, they may struggle with how to write an essay on their holiday. Here are some key points to make it easier to write an essay on holiday:

  • Give a brief introduction about holidays.
  • State the importance of holidays.
  • Write what all things or activities the kid will or can do in the holidays.
  • Write about all the fun they’ve had during the holidays.
  • Conclude briefly by expressing joy for the holidays.

Writing an essay for classes 1 and 2 on the holidays may sometimes be a bit of a struggle. Here are 10 lines to help kids write:

  • Holidays are the happiest time for everybody, especially students.
  • Students get a break from their regular school hours.
  • Holidays are a time when they can pursue hobbies, learn new sports and relax.
  • They also spend more hours playing with their friends.
  • We visit our grandparent’s or relatives’ homes during holidays.
  • We have a lot of fun at our grandparent’s or relatives’ home, since we eat delicious food and have our cousins over.
  • Some families go for trips to hill stations or beaches.
  • Students also complete their school assignments during holidays.
  • Some students go for extra classes to do better in academics.
  • Holidays are the time to enjoy, relax, learn good things, and cherish good times with close family members.

Holidays are the most joyous time for every student. Let’s relive the joy through this short paragraph:

Everyone loves holidays, whether they are for one day or one month! Students especially look forward to their annual school vacation. They love that they don’t need to get up early for school and can get extra sleep hours. It’s a healthy break from a routine. Kids plan so many things for their holidays; some want to spend it with their cousins in their grandparent’s or relatives’ house. Some plan for a family holiday where they visit and explore new places. It is also a good time to learn new things or pursue new hobbies. Holidays are magical days full of fun and enjoyment.

Kids love to talk about their holidays. Therefore, writing a holiday essay for classes 1, 2 and 3 kids is a joy. Here is a short essay on holidays for children:

Routine life is boring, especially for kids. Holiday is the magic word that gives them a break from their school routine. Whether it’s a short break or the annual holidays, every student eagerly waits for them. Holidays are the time when they can sleep late, wake up late and spend hours playing. Parents won’t rush them to complete homework. Nor would their parents stop them from playing extra hours. Some kids even invite their friends for sleepovers or movie nights. Most kids don’t get enough time to learn new sports or hobbies during school days. So, the holidays are the perfect time to learn how to play the guitar or go swimming or even join that reading club. Most families plan a get-together during long holidays. It is the time to visit new places and enjoy yourself with family. Holidays give us a break from everyday life to relax and rejuvenate.

Here is a long holiday essay for class 3 students. Kids can read and learn from it to write a long essay on holidays for their school assignments.

One thing that never fails to make us smile is the word holiday. Whether we are young or old, we all look forward to holidays. They are the perfect time to relax and take a break from our daily routine. Our days of leisure, are the most important and memorable days of our lives. Let’s understand how important are holidays and ways to enjoy them the most.

Importance of Holiday For Students And Working People

Everyone loves holidays. However, they hold a different level of importance for different people. For students, holidays are the time when they can do extra things apart from their studies. In their daily school lives, students don’t get much time to pursue their hobbies or interests. During holidays, they can explore a new interest or get themselves enrolled to learn new sports. Trying new things is important for a kid’s overall development. Kids also get more time to spend with their families and friends. So, holidays give them the perfect opportunity to do things they cannot do during school days.

Working people equally love holidays as young kids. Their long working hours and hectic lifestyle don’t leave them much time to relax or enjoy their hobbies. So, during the holidays, they relax and rejuvenate. They sleep in late, wake up late and enjoy the whole day with the family. During holidays, they can go on trips with family or friends to rejuvenate.

How To Make The Most Of Your Holidays

To fully utilise the holidays, one should list what they want to do or don’t get to do on their normal days. It could be spending time with friends, learning a new hobby, or sleeping late. Then, as per the time and number of days, start ticking things off the list. A new hobby or sport can be learned if you have long holidays. For a short holiday of a few days, a family trip can be planned. Just remember your holidays are the time to enjoy, relax and have lots of fun.

An essay on ‘holiday’ is a great way to teach your child the importance of relaxing, unwinding and doing better in our lives. Through this essay, they will also learn about various things they can do during holidays. While writing an essay on holidays, kids will learn the value of playing sports and learning new hobbies to become active and smart.

Some noteworthy points about holidays:

1. Why Is A Holiday Important?

Holidays are important as they give us time to relax and rejuvenate. During holidays we get more time with our near ones and can pursue our hobbies.

2. How One Can Spend His/Her Holiday?

One can spend their holidays in numerous ways. They can pursue their hobbies, learn new interests like singing, dancing, sports or arts, spend time with friends or go on a trip. The list is endless.

Holidays are best enjoyed when they are spent doing things we like or with people we love. They are the ideal time to learn or do extra activities, spend time with family and relax. Writing an essay on holidays will allow kids to explore their thoughts and desires related to this beautiful topic.

English Essay Writing or Composition on How I Spent My Last Holiday

There are many topics that you may be required to write an essay on in your English language classes. But writing an essay about how you spent your last holiday is one of the most enjoyable. The reason is because it brings back lovely memories as you thoughtfully reflect on your holiday experience and put them in writing.

As you write, your goal is to capture your readers’ attention and sustain their interest from the beginning of the essay till the end.

You can achieve this goal by:

  • writing clear and simple sentences.
  • using so, but, and, because and other transition words to ensure that your ideas flow smoothly throughout your essay.
  • being as descriptive as possible by using adjectives that paint a vivid picture of what you are saying.
  • being honest and authentic as you share your feelings about your experience.

I will give you a basic outline that you can develop into the compelling essay you have in mind.

Basic Outline for Composing an Essay on “How I Spent My Last Holiday”

Here is a basic outline that will help you to write a good composition about how you spent your last holiday:

Introduction

You need to begin your essay with a catchy opening sentence that would grab your reader’s attention. Then quickly introduce the topic or purpose of your essay, and say where you went for the holiday and what you did.

Body Paragraphs

Just like you would do in the body of any other essay, divide your holiday experience into several key events or activities.

Then describe each event or activity in details in different paragraphs. Remember that, as much as possible, each paragraph should focus on a specific event or activity.

The number of paragraphs would depend on the number of words the essay is expected to cover.

Whatever the target word-count, ensure that your essay is vivid and engaging by using sensory details. It’s simple. Just describe what you saw, heard, smelled, tasted, and felt during each experience.

Then reflect on the significance or impact of each event or activity. How did it make you feel? What did you learn from it? Did it change your perspective on anything? And so on.

This is where you end your essay. A good conclusion would provide a brief summary of the key points of your essay, including the lessons you learned.

You can tell whether the holiday experience met your expectations, and how you feel about it even at the point of penning down your essay. Then state whether you plan to do anything in the future drawing inspiration from your holiday experience.

Sample How I Spent My Last Holiday Essays

The following are sample essays of different word counts on how I spent my last holiday. You can choose any composition that comes close to your own holiday experience and use it to craft yours.

My Relaxing Holiday 200 Words

My last holiday was amazing! I did not travel to any new or interesting location, but I had a lot of fun staying home. I took time to enjoy early morning sleep every day. This alone felt like a treat after waking up early for school the entire term.

In the afternoons, I went outside to play with my friends. We played the soccer ball around in the park, and would enjoy pretending to famous athletes.

Sometimes during the holiday, it would rain. And when that happened, I just stayed inside and got cozy. I got a good book and devoured it with a mug of hot chocolate by my side. I also liked watching funny movies with my family and munching on popcorn.

In some evenings, we had barbecues in the backyard. We grilled hamburgers and hotdogs, while Dad told us stories about when he was a kid. I don’t think that anything can feel more special than spending so much time together.

Although I did not travel anywhere, my holiday was full of fun and relaxation. I feel recharged and ready to go back to school now!

My Last Holiday Adventure 250 Words

Since I have been spending my holidays, none had been as enjoyable as the last one. When we vacated last term, I spent two weeks at home in order to assist my parents in farm work. After this, I left for Onitsha in order to visit some places of interest.

I visited the modern and popular Niger bridge which links Onitsha and Asaba, Mid-West. I also visited the famous Onitsha Main Market. It has no rival in comparison in West Africa just as Ibadan Liberty Stadium has no comparison in West Africa. When I was being taken round the great Onitsha Main Market by a friend, I observed that traders in their respective stalls felt at home. Some of them tuned in their radio sets. They were happy.

I spent one week at Onitsha and departed for Enugu. When I was at Enugu I visited the Eastern Nigeria Parliament, and I saw Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe’s Statue just close to the house of Assembly. I also visited Enugu Airport and several other places of interest. I spent five days in Enugu and departed for Lagos by a train. “Lagos Limited”, and that was my first time of entering train. When I reached Lagos, I hardly believed that it was a town in Nigeria. It was very beautiful indeed just like London.

When I was in Lagos, I went to the House of Representatives, the Senate, National Stadium, Air- port, Tinubu Square and other places of interest.

I spent 5 days in Lagos and returned home to resume School. I wrote a story on all my observations in the journey.

My Last Holiday Essay 300 Words

Last summer, I went on a trip that I will not easily forget. This is because it meant much more to me than just a vacation; rather, my perception was changed.

I had never been in Thailand before the holiday but only heard of its beauty. Finally visiting the country made my holiday worthwhile. The place was so different from home! Their market was busy with many colorful items for sale and their food was so delicious. I tried several new and amazing dishes, and they were all lovely. While in Thailand, I couldn’t fail to notice how beautiful their temples are with roofs gold plated and other carvings done wonderfully.

I am an outdoor kind of person. That is why spending time in nature during my holiday made me very happy. Some days I would hike through forests while others would find me relaxing at the beach. On one fine morning, I woke up early to witness sunrise over New Zealand’s mountains. It was simply breathtaking and that made me feel alive.

Lastly, to add some holiday fun into it; i did some daring activities too. For instance, skydiving and bungee jumping were included in my itinerary. Although at first scared, it turned out pretty awesome! I learned that it’s good to challenge yourself and try new things sometimes.

Looking back on my last holiday, I feel very grateful for all the experiences I had. I discovered a lot of new things and also made new friends. Yes, the holiday is over, but the memories I made will stay with me forever.

From the samples above, you can see that the key to writing a good essay about your holiday is to engage your readers with descriptive details and thoughtful reflections.

school holiday essay

Part of the post-pandemic educational debate focused on summer holidays. Some politicians suggested reducing the summer break to help learner catch up on lost learning, but other educational experts argued that both learners and teachers need a long summer break to recharge their batteries.

This debate around school holidays is ongoing. Do long summer breaks make sense in the modern world? Are they serving the interests of learners? Would teachers be better served with a shorter summer break, and more regular holidays throughout the year?

Let’s take a look at how school holidays work around the world, and the benefits and drawbacks of a long summer holiday.

How long are summer holidays around the world?

A long summer holiday is standard in countries around the world. Most North American schools are off for around two months over summer. In Europe, the length of the summer break varies from around six weeks in Germany and the UK, to eight weeks in Spain, Italy and Finland. Some countries, like Ireland and Turkey, have a three month break over the summer months. In contrast, Japanese and South Korean students only have a month off during summer.

In many countries, the school year has looked the same since the 19th century. But things are starting to change. For example, some regions in Belgium and Spain have shortened their summer holiday and redistributed the days across the school year.

The benefits of shortening the summer holidays

So, what are the potential benefits of a shorter summer break for parents, teachers and students?

It prevents the summer learning gap

Summer learning loss has been extensively researched, and is well documented by teachers and students. Over the long summer break, students lose some of the academic skills and knowledge they’d built up during the school year. Proponents of a shorter summer holiday argue that it will prevent this loss, meaning that students will learn more consistently all year round.

It’s better for working parents

Long summer holidays weren’t as logistically challenging for families in the past. But now that many families have two working parents, summer childcare can be challenging to organise. A shorter summer break would mean that parents can cover this time with their own annual leave.

It gives teachers more time for reinforcing learning

With more time in school, teachers will be able to further support students with in-depth learning. Instead of feeling under pressure to get through the curriculum, teachers will have the flexibility to allow students to follow their interests and encourage independent learning and discovery.

It promotes equality

The summer learning loss is just one aspect of how summer holidays can negatively impact students. Some students enjoy enriching summer breaks of foreign travel, educational summer camps and stimulating cultural activities – but this isn’t true of all students. And the students who don’t have the same level of parental input or resources come back after the holidays at a disadvantage. A shorter summer break would reduce this disparity.

The drawbacks of shortening the school holidays

However, there are some drawbacks to a shorter summer break. Let’s take a look.

Less downtime and rest for students and teachers

A Yougov poll of British teachers in both primary and secondary schools in the UK found that the vast majority – 89% and 92% respectively – are opposed to a shorter summer break. By the time the school holidays come around, most teachers are burned out and in need of a long break to switch off and recharge their batteries. The same is true of students, especially older students who spend the spring studying hard for high pressure exams.

Less bonding time for siblings

One of the most important aspects of the long summer holidays is the time that children have to bond and connect with their families. Although many parents work during some of that time, the holidays are a time when children spend long periods with their siblings. In the absence of their school friends, the summer break is a chance for siblings to play more with one another, participate in joint activities, and reinforce the sibling bond.

Fewer opportunities for students to build independence

For younger students, the freedom from the routine of the school day gives them an opportunity to make their own decisions, be creative, and pursue their own interests. Older students often look for summer jobs or internships, giving them a chance to gain independence and experience the world of work during the summer break.

What does the research say?

Researchers at the University of Glasgow looked at the effect of summer holidays using data from the Millennial Cohort Study. They found that summer holidays exacerbated inequalities in mental health and verbal cognitive ability. Younger children’s verbal cognitive ability declined during the holidays across all backgrounds. However, the 2022 study concludes that the evidence is mixed, and that school holidays as they are do not lead to significant additional educational disadvantage.

The EEF’s review found that extending the school year could have a positive impact on attainment, particularly for disadvantaged pupils. They also suggested that summer programmes which focus on providing students with stimulating environments and activities have a bigger impact on attainment than those with a purely academic focus, perhaps because the students are more engaged and eager to participate.

The Welsh government is currently considering a plan to shorten the school summer holidays from six weeks to three weeks, and redistribute the days across the school year. Their intention is to “design a school year that better supports learner and staff wellbeing, tackles inequality and is more aligned to modern family and working lives.”

What do you think? Would you welcome a shorter summer break, or are the long summer holidays sacrosanct?

Essay on Holiday for Children and Students

iit-jee, neet, foundation

Holiday is a day when a person is given a day off from his/her everyday work and responsibility. Holiday in school means suspension of classes while holiday in an office means that there will be no usual activities carried out like other days and the employees are exempted from work and need not come. However, once the holiday is over, everyone gets to work as before. Holiday is like a day or longer break which provides much needed rest to the people or students over burdened with workload or assignments. It rejuvenates us, making us ready for the work days ahead, till the arrival of next holiday.

School days are said to be the best part of a person’s life. Though there is a lot of study pressure on the students, it offers a number of other aspects to cherish throughout lives. Among other things, the summer, winter and autumn breaks that students get during their academic session are the best part of their journey. Students are lucky to get several holidays during the year. They get ample time to relax, indulge in their hobbies and go on holiday trips.

With the five days week culture creeping in the corporate sector these days working people are also able to plan holiday trips every now and then. Saturday and Sunday coupled with one holiday makes for a good weekend outing. Working professionals these days are required to work for 9-10 hours a day. Holiday Essay 2 (300 words)

A student’s life revolves around homework, exam preparation and tests. So basically studies, studies and more studies. We go to school then go to the coaching centre and then study at home. There is hardly any time for other activities especially in the higher classes. Sundays come as a respite but mostly there is some or the other test scheduled for Monday so we cannot escape studies even for a single day in a week.

My Fond Memories of My Summer Holidays

Summer holidays are the best time of the year for every student. We plan a family trip during our summer vacations every year. Our family trip is the best part of these holidays and I always look forward to it. Most of the times the four of us that is my father, mother, brother and I go on these trips but many times my cousins also join us. These trips are always full of fun. Last year, we went to Ooty and Mysore for six days. Both the places were spectacular.

Ooty was particularly awesome. These places encompass many beautiful gardens and marvellous edifices. We went for sight-seeing, had scrumptious food and spent quality time with each other. It was a great experience. It was one of the best family trips we had every gone for. It was also the longest one. We often plan holidays only for 2-3 days but this one was for 6 days and was thus more fun. I cherish the days spent there. These are my fondest memories of my summer holidays.

Holidays are a good time to take a break from the routine. It is the time to indulge in our hobbies, meet our old friends and extended family members. However, we must not let our studies take a back seat during this time. We must devote some time to studies even during our holidays.

Holiday Essay 3 (400 words)

Holidays are a time to be with the family and friends. It is also the time to indulge in our favourite sport or pursue our hobbies. We make numerous plans for our holidays but most of them are not fulfilled. One of the main reasons for this is procrastination. We want to do a lot during our holidays but usually get lazy and vile away the time only to regret at the end of the holidays.

Ways to Make the Most of Your Holidays?

Here are a few ways to make the most of your holidays to get back to work with fresh mind.

  • Don’t Leave Your Work

Holiday is not a time to take a break from your studies or work in fact it is the time to improvise on these things. If you leave your work or study during your holidays (especially during long vacations) you will find it very difficult to get back with it as you resume your office/ school. This will create dissatisfaction and you will yearn for another holiday to set things right. So why not keep things managed during your break and get back to work with confidence and enthusiasm.

Now, don’t over indulge in your work. Just squeeze in an hour or two each day for the same so that you stay in touch.

  • Follow Your Hobby/ Interest

It is a good idea to join a hobby class. Indulge in anything of your choice such as dancing, swimming, yoga, painting, sketching or music. Take-up a short course for a week or 10 days depending on the number of holidays you have.

  • Meet Friends and Relatives

Socializing is very important. We don’t get enough time to visit our friends and relatives due to our hectic routine. But we can certainly do so during our holidays. So take out time to meet them.

  • Go on a Trip

Go for a trip with your family or friends to take a break from your routine life. Trips are refreshing. I always make it a point to go for one trip each during my summer and winter holidays.

  • Spend Time with Your Family

Most importantly, spend time with your family. Family always comes first! So, you must spend quality time with each of your family members. Spend time with your grandparents, parents and siblings to strengthen your bond.

Holidays are a great time to bond with family and friends. It is also a time to follow your interests and rejuvenate yourself. So, make the most of this time.

Holiday Essay 4 (500 words)

Holidays hold immense importance in a person’s life. Be it a student, a working professional or a businessman – everyone wants a break from their work. Holidays provide this much awaited break. They are also important for many other reasons.

Holidays are a time when we can finally take a break from our otherwise hectic routine and follow our hobbies and interests. I always make it a point to join a hobby course during holidays. I love art and craft and thus join different art and craft classes to hone my skills in the same. Last year, I joined glass painting classes, prior to that I joined pottery classes and this year I am planning to learn the art of candle making. My friends also join different classes as per their interest. Some of them join dance classes, others join vocal/ instrumental music while yet others join sports such as skating, swimming and basket ball.

Holidays are also a time when we can socialize with friends and relatives and spend time with our family. I love family outings. We plan at least one family trip during summer vacations. I am also allowed to go over to my friends place to spend the day every once in a while. I also love the time when my cousins come over to stay at my place. Those days are particularly the best part of the summer vacations.

Most importantly, holidays are a time when we can relax and understand how to improve our skills to perform better in our exams as well as other activities. I make sure that I set aside at least 2-3 hours a day to study during the vacations. This helps me keep pace with my studies as I join back.

Working professionals and businessmen also yearn for holidays. But they do not get long vacations like the school and college going kids. However, whatever little break they get they must make the most of it by indulging in the activity of their choice.

Working professionals mostly have long working hours these days. Many people even require working after they get back home from their work place. This hectic professional life often takes a toll on their personal life. They are hardly able to spend any time with their family members and this result in conflicts and strained relationships. Holidays give them an opportunity to spend time with their family to strengthen the bond. It is a good idea to plan a family vacation. Socializing is also very important and this can also be done during holidays as the hectic work routine does not allow any room for it during the regular days. It is a good time to meet one’s friends and relatives. Holidays are also a time to relax and focus on one’s physical as well as mental health.

Holidays are important as they help in maintaining a balance between our personal and professional life. We must spend them wisely to make the most of them.

Holiday Essay 5 (600 words)

Holidays are the best time of the year. I always look forward to my summer holidays as these are the longest holidays we students get during the year. I mostly spend them with my family and extended family. My parents also allow me to go on a few outings with friends as a reward if I study and behave well during the holidays.

My First Holiday with School Friends

Until 5 th grade my parents did not allow me to go for school trips but as I entered my 6 th grade I got this chance. My school had organized a three day trip to Shimla during the summer vacations. Many of my friends filled the consent to go for the trip. I wanted to go to but feared that my parents would not agree. At first, I thought there was no point even asking because their answer would only be no but my friends insisted I should.

I still remember how I hesitantly handed over the consent form for the trip to my father and began telling him about the details of the trip. I also told him that many of my classmates are going for it and that I also wanted to go. Initially, he refused as he felt I was too young to go out without their supervision. It took me around 2 days to convince my mother to allow me to go for the trip and she in turn convinced my father for the same. I was finally glad and super excited about the trip. I promised them that I will not talk to strangers, always move with the group and be careful with everything during the trip.

We travelled from Delhi to Kalka in train and then took a bus to reach Shimla. We reached our hotel in the afternoon. The first day we went to the mall road. The weather was pleasant and the place was amazing. I had been to various hill stations earlier as well but this place had something very refreshing about it. The company of friends made it all the more amazing. We roam around on the mall road and had planned to have dinner in a restaurant on our way back to the hotel but could not resist the smell of freshly steamed momos. They were super delicious and we ate so many of them that there was no room for dinner.

The next day we went to the Jakhu temple. The road to the temple was quite steep and we encountered hundreds of langoors on our way. It was a bit scary but exciting at the same time. The temple is set at a very serene place and we loved sitting in peace for some time. On our way back we decided to trek down the road and the experience was amazing. In the evening we visited the church and spent time on the mall road again. On the third day of our trip our teachers allowed us to go for shopping. We went to the Tibetan market to buy some really cool stuff. I bought scarves, hair clips and a jacket for myself. I also bought souvenirs for my siblings and friends.

The time finally came when we had to bid goodbye to the beautiful mountains and valley view of Shimla. We took the night bus straight for Delhi and reached home safely.

I had been on many family trips before this and loved them but the joy and excitement of going on trips with friends is something different. Since then I have been on many trips with my friends but I can never forget the wonderful moments spent on my first trip with them.

Include an introduction and conclusion

A conclusion is essential for IELTS writing task 2. It is more important than most people realise. You will be penalised for missing a conclusion in your IELTS essay.

The easiest paragraph to write in an essay is the conclusion paragraph. This is because the paragraph mostly contains information that has already been presented in the essay – it is just the repetition of some information written in the introduction paragraph and supporting paragraphs.

The conclusion paragraph only has 3 sentences:

  • Restatement of thesis
  • Prediction or recommendation

To summarize, a robotic teacher does not have the necessary disciple to properly give instructions to students and actually works to retard the ability of a student to comprehend new lessons. Therefore, it is clear that the idea of running a classroom completely by a machine cannot be supported. After thorough analysis on this subject, it is predicted that the adverse effects of the debate over technology-driven teaching will always be greater than the positive effects, and because of this, classroom teachers will never be substituted for technology.

Start your conclusion with a linking phrase. Here are some examples:

  • In conclusion
  • To conclude
  • To summarize
  • In a nutshell

Essay on Holidays | Holidays Essay for Students and Children in English

February 13, 2024 by Prasanna

Essay on Holidays: Holidays are the most important part of not only children’s lives but also adult’s lives. As adults, we work from Monday to Friday with our monotonous 9 to 5 schedule in a hope that we shall be able to party in the weekend holidays. If we actually think about it, there is not much difference between robots and corporate employees. We spend half of our lives in the hope that we will enjoy the holidays. We spend 80 percent of our lives struggling so that we can relax in the remaining measly 20 percent? Sounds sad. In this particular essay on holidays, we shall be talking about the importance of holidays in our lives and how to change our lives so that we don’t depend on holidays to come in order to be happy in life.

If you are searching for well-written Essay on Holidays then we have provided a 600-word long essay on holidays with good content. We have also provided a short 200-word Essay on Holidays in English. Both these essays can be used by students of class 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10

Long Essay on Holidays 600 Words in English

Holidays Essay is usually given to classes 7, 8, 9, and 10.

Holidays are a part and parcel of life. Whether it’s a student, a small kid or a full-grown mature adult, everyone loves holidays. It is during holidays that we will get enough time to spend with our families and loved ones. It is during holidays that we can work on the things that we love and always dream of. We can work on our hobbies and dreams during holidays because during work or school time, we shall be completely preoccupied with the work that we might actually not like, but do it to earn our living.

Lucky are those whose holidays and work are not much different. Instead of waiting for 5 days a week so that we enjoy the 2 days in the weekend or wait for 3 months to wait for Diwali holidays or Christmas holidays, we have to build such a life where we need no vacation from. Perfect lives are those whose work and professional life itself feels like a vacation.

Students lives are more or less similar. Children are most excited to come out of school than go in. As children, we remember getting excited for the Christmas holidays or a 2 months summer holidays. This speaks volumes about our education system. If students are not interested to study in a school environment, it is high time education experts change the way teaching is imparted. Our entire education system needs immediate revamp so that children love to study and not forced to study. The education system should be designed in such a way that students don’t miss out on a single class. But it is easier said than done. Education systems in Finland and South Korea have nearly achieved that feat. It requires visionary leadership and policies in India to make that dream come true.

But not every time that the holidays are all hunky-dory. Each and every one of us have experienced this during the coronavirus holidays when India was under a complete Lockdown for more than 2 months due to the spread of COVID 19 pandemic. Most of us,  irrespective of what age and occupation we had, were sick of holidays and sitting at home. While holidays that come our way once in while gives us time to reflect upon ourselves and take a break from the monotony of life,  if the holidays are indefinite,  then it will start taking a toll on our mental health as well as our physical health. As the saying goes, an idle mind is a devil’s workshop, if people are locked up in a house for a long time, our cognitive abilities will start shrinking and our children are especially vulnerable to these negative effects.

I would like to conclude by saying that holidays are important for us to relax and spend some quality time with our selves and with our families and loved ones. But building a life where we are not prisoners to holidays is also important. Build a life where every day of your life feels like a vacation. That kind of life is a truly happy and content life. And at the same time, indefinite holidays will have an opposite impact which means instead of feeling relaxed, our anxiety and restlessness will increase.

Short Essay on Holidays 200 Words in English

Holidays Essay is usually given to classes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.

Holidays are the time that each and every one of us wait eagerly so that we can go on a trip to our dream destination or spend some quality time with our families and loved ones or just spend some time alone in solitude to introspect of life. Irrespective of what the reason is, holidays are undoubtedly the best thing about our lives.

India is a secular country with many religions celebrating their festivities, has plenty of holidays in a year. Governments declare there own holidays other than the corporate holidays that companies and education institutes declare. Some of the major religious holidays in India are Deepawali holidays, Christmas holidays,  Pongal holidays and Ganesha Chaturthi holidays. Other than religious festivals,  India celebrates holidays to commemorate the birth and death anniversaries of its leaders such as Gandhi Jayanti,  Children’s Day celebrated on Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s birthday and many more.

Without holidays, the efficiency and the interest to work and to learn will be reduced. In countries like Japan, to improve the work efficiency, companies ask employees to work only four days a week,  unlike India where working in offices and studying in schools has 6 days working routine.  Holidays are just get away from the daily work routine and holidays, it becomes forced and indefinite like the coronavirus holidays can have negative impacts on people and society at large.

Essay on School Children Should Not Have Long Holidays

Students are often asked to write an essay on School Children Should Not Have Long Holidays in their schools and colleges. And if you’re also looking for the same, we have created 100-word, 250-word, and 500-word essays on the topic.

Let’s take a look…

100 Words Essay on School Children Should Not Have Long Holidays

Introduction.

School holidays are a time for fun and relaxation. But, should they be long? The answer is no. Long holidays can disrupt learning and create an academic gap.

Breaking the Learning Cycle

Increased screen time.

With no school, children tend to spend more time on screens. This can affect their health and social skills.

While holidays are important, they should not be too long. A balance between rest and studies is crucial for a child’s overall development.

250 Words Essay on School Children Should Not Have Long Holidays

The detrimental effects of extended breaks.

One of the main arguments against long holidays is the ‘summer learning loss’ phenomenon. Studies show that students tend to forget a significant portion of what they’ve learned during extended breaks, necessitating a review period once school resumes. This not only slows down the academic progress but also puts additional pressure on both students and teachers.

Impact on Social Development

Long holidays can also hinder the social development of children. Schools provide a structured environment where children learn to interact, collaborate, and resolve conflicts. Extended breaks can disrupt this continuity, potentially leading to social skills regression.

Economic Considerations

From an economic perspective, long holidays can strain families where both parents work. Arranging childcare or activities to keep children engaged can be costly and stressful. Shorter, more frequent breaks could alleviate these issues.

While the idea of long holidays may seem appealing, the potential academic, social, and economic drawbacks suggest that a reevaluation of this tradition is necessary. A balanced approach, incorporating shorter but more frequent breaks, could provide students with the necessary rest, while ensuring continuous learning and social development. This would not only enhance their academic performance but also contribute to their overall well-being.

500 Words Essay on School Children Should Not Have Long Holidays

The need to reconsider long holidays.

The traditional school calendar, with its long summer break, is a relic of a bygone era. When society was agrarian, children needed to be free during the summer to help their families with the harvest. Today, however, this is no longer the case. It’s time to consider whether long holidays for school children are still relevant and beneficial.

The Learning Loss Phenomenon

Uneven access to enrichment activities.

Long holidays often exacerbate socio-economic disparities among students. Affluent families can afford to send their children to summer camps, travel, or provide other enrichment activities that can stimulate learning and personal growth. Conversely, less privileged students may spend their holidays in unproductive or even unsafe environments, further widening the achievement gap.

The Role of Structure and Routine

School provides a structured environment that helps children develop essential skills such as time management, discipline, and social interaction. Long holidays disrupt this structure, potentially leading to behavioral issues and difficulties readjusting when school resumes.

Working Parents’ Dilemma

Reimagining school holidays.

While the idea of long holidays may seem attractive, it’s important to consider their potential drawbacks. As we strive to provide an equitable and effective educational system, we must reevaluate long-standing traditions that may no longer serve our students’ best interests. The goal should be to create a system that supports continuous learning, promotes equity, and accommodates the realities of modern life. The traditional long holidays may not fit into this model and should be reconsidered.

Why We Should Give Students a Homework Break Over the Holidays

I have so many fond memories from holiday seasons growing up: the smell of delicious food being made by my Mexican and Filipino families, warm light on the faces of my relatives, and lots of laughter. As I got older, though, things changed—mostly because I had so much homework to do.

Instead of joking with our relatives at the holidays, my brother and I would often sequester ourselves at the edge of the room, thick textbooks open and pens in our hands. Sometimes, we’d miss events altogether. When we did attend, the ramifications could be intense. During one spring break, I chose to go to an Easter party with my family. But by midnight, I was stress-weeping because I had so much work to do by the next day.

As a teacher, I now understand the temptation to give work over school breaks. There never seems to be enough time to do the projects or read the texts I’d like to with my kids, and asking students to work or read during breaks eases that crunch. I also worry that my students will lose some of their learning in the weeks they are gone.

Recently, though, my school created a new homework policy that, among other things, encourages us to avoid giving students work over extended school breaks. Our administration cited studies that raise questions about the benefits of hefty doses of homework.

I worried about how this new plan would affect my curriculum pacing, and about what my students might “lose.” But I realized that my concerns were really about my desires, not what was best for my students.

The new policy led me to re-evaluate my assignments and timing, and I ended up being able to make adjustments so my kids could complete necessary projects without working when they should be recharging. I’d worried about my students’ learning, but recent research challenges our long-held belief that students’ learning “slides” significantly over long breaks.

Taking the stress of homework out of my students’ holiday breaks is important. They deserve an opportunity to relax and rejuvenate as much as I do—particularly if they are overscheduled to begin with. Young or old, we all need rejuvenation time. In addition, more studies are demonstrating the benefits of down time for students. Having unstructured time recharges them, but also allows their brains to build connections that strengthen and improve their executive functioning.

We need to be mindful of other factors that complicate homework assignments over holiday breaks. We don’t always know what our students’ lives are like outside our classrooms. Do they struggle with access to the resources necessary to complete assignments? Do they have stressful home situations?

Here are a few ways we can send our students off on a positive note when they leave us for holiday breaks. I’m trying them myself this winter!

Provide activities that support students reconnecting with themselves, their loved ones, or their community.

While we want to avoid giving mandatory work to students, we can offer opportunities and ideas for learning-friendly activities they can do during their break. Maybe that’s an optional/extra credit project that asks students to interview a family or community member (though we should also provide time after break for those who couldn’t work over break). Or maybe we can offer students some ideas about how they could use their time to take care of themselves or their communities. We could provide reflection questions once they’re back from break, to help them find meaning in the experience. Encouraging students to use their time to volunteer or take care of themselves allows us to help our kids grow not just as students, but as people.

Offer opportunities to find a new passion, set goals, or reflect.

While some students may travel or connect with family, some of our kids may have a lot of free time over their break. We can encourage them to use the time to set goals for the year, dream big and draw or write their five-year plan (remind them this is for fun and plans will change!), or reflect on their year or life so far. We can also encourage students to discover something they’re passionate about, or use the time to pursue something they love.

Deepen your relationships with students and allow them to open up to you.

Sometimes, our kids are simply not given the space to dive deeply into something that lets them tell us who they are. Give students a project that allows them to explore their identity or have them write a story about their lives. This will not only provide some critical thinking, reading, or writing enrichment, but more importantly will provide valuable insight into our students’ lives and help us build deeper connections with our students. We can return the favor by completing the project ourselves or writing a story and sharing it with them.

After the break, see what stuck with students.

Instead of returning from break with the mindset of what was “lost,” give students a chance to share everything they remember from the last unit. Instead of assuming they all had a great time they want to share, welcome kids back with an opportunity to celebrate the experiences that stuck with them from their breaks. Help students generate a class-created study guide so they can review what they learned before the break. This gives them space to support one another and remind each other what they learned, as well as gives us an opportunity to praise students for what they’ve retained. It also provides important feedback for us on what stuck over the break and what we need to reteach.

Ultimately, our students look to us not just for academic growth, but to support their growth as human beings as well. Taking away homework stress over break may cause us to change our short-term plans, but providing them with opportunities and resources instead can have some long-term benefits that can change their self-perception and their lives more than a packet of homework ever could.

Essay about school holidays

During the last school holidays, my family and I went for a trip to Kuala Lumpur . It spent 2 days 1 night.

We left at 7o’clock after packing up our belongings. While going to our destination, I took out my favorite book which I bring along the way to read.

After 4 hours, we reached our destination, Kuala Lumpur safely. Even though the weather was extremely hot and humid, my beloved family and I felt cozy as the car was fully air-conditioned. Then, we checked in at the hotel and put our luggage in the room. The room was big and beautiful.

Later, we visited National Zoo. There were many people in the zoo. When we were entering the zoo, we saw a few lions and tigers were in big cages. Next, we saw monkeys and birds. The monkeys were swinging from tree to tree happily and the birds were flying freely. I did not miss the opportunity to take some snapshots as remembrance.

Later, we went to a seafood restaurant near the zoo to have lunch. Then, we went to Petronas Twin Tower. The tower was magnificent. In fact, the scenery was breathtaking and amazing. We enjoyed the scenery very much.

After that, we went back to the hotel tiredly.

On the next day, the weather was fine. After having breakfast, my family and I went to KLCC. We bought a lot of souvenirs. Then, we went to Cineplex to watch a comedy movie. My sister and I were deliriously happy as it was our first experience to watch movie at the Cineplex.

Then, we went to the aquarium. There were many types of fish and aquatic animals, like butterfly fish, manta, balloon fish, acaleph, mussel, starfish and more.

At 5o’clock, we went to the hotel to take a rest and checked out from the hotel. Then, we went back to Baling reluctantly.

It was a memorable holidays for my entire family. I hope we could go there in the immediate future.

My school holiday

Favorite Quote: Infinty Rose

Last school holiday, my family and I went back to our hometown, the eagerly-awaited holidays bring a respite from homework, lessons, extracurricular activities and exams. For me, spending a holiday at home is equally unbearable.                   On the last day of school, I eagerly waited for the bell to ring at 1:30 p.m..Then, I felt like a caged bird hat has just been set free. I slang my bag over my shoulder and make my way to my dorm to pick up some bags to bring home. I waited for my mother for a couple of minutes. Finally, she came. I put my bags in the car and hoped in. In the car, my mother told me that the whole family is going to our hometown. I felt very excited because I missed my hometown very much. When we got home, I quickly packed my clothes so that I won't be rushing the next day.

We started our journey early in the morning. When we arrived, we had a quick lunch. I make a short exchange and headed for my favourite spot at my hometown. A secluded corner of my grandfather durian orchards. There under a shady spot, I sat down and enjoyed the peaceful surrounding.

Here is one of the places that made me feel relaxed, I enjoyed the solitude of nature. As I took my seat on a wooden bench, and took a glance around, I can see a flurry of activities. Birds flew and sang sweetly above me while two squirrel ran from a tree to another, colourful butterflies flapped their colourful wings and ants scurry in a single file carrying bits of food on their backs.

A cool breeze blowed. I can hear the soft rustle of leaves. The air is heavy with the scent of grasses coupled with the scent of ripe durians. I can't wait to eat durians if there's some at home. I hope so.

I lied on my back with my hand behind my head and watched streaks of sunlight filtering through the canopy of leaves. Soon I fall into short but deep slumber. When I woke up, I can see the sun slowly descending behind a row of far hills. Although I would love to linger for a little longer, I moved away reluctantly and leaved knowing that my grandparents and family would be waiting for me.

My December Holiday Essay For Students

The winter holidays are an exciting time of year filled with fun traditions, tasty foods, and quality time with family and friends. Last December, my family and I took a holiday trip that I will never forget. In this essay, I will share some of the highlights from my December holiday. I will discuss our travels, the special celebrations we enjoyed, and what I learned from the experience.

Short Essay On My December Holiday

Travel plans.

As part of our holiday preparations, my family researched different destinations to visit over our school break. After much debate, we settled on a one-week road trip along the coast of California (Topic Sentence). For the first part of our journey, we packed up our suitcases and snacks and embarked on an eight-hour drive from our home in Northern California down to Los Angeles (Transition). Hitting the road for long periods of time can be tiring, so we listened to Christmas music and audiobooks to pass the time and keep our energy up. Taking breaks to stretch our legs at scenic overlooks also helped the drive feel shorter.

Arrival (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); in Los Angeles

Upon arriving in LA, our first stop was checking into our hotel for a few nights of exploring the city (Topic Sentence). We spent one afternoon at Disneyland, enjoying the festive decorations and riding our favorite attractions like the teacups (Example). On another day, we toured Hollywood Boulevard and snapped photos beside the handprints of famous movie stars at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre. Our hotel was located near the Santa Monica Pier, so one evening we strolled along the beachfront shops and played amusement park games for prizes (Example). Los Angeles was bustling with holiday cheer and offered the perfect mix of activities to start our winter getaway.

Christmas Eve in San Diego

After a few enjoyable days in Los Angeles, we packed up and continued on to San Diego for Christmas Eve (Transition). We checked into a cozy hotel downtown and walked nearby to see the iconic San Diego Zoo all lit up for the night (Topic Sentence). What really stood out was attending midnight mass at a historic Spanish church near our hotel. It was a beautiful service with traditional carols and readings about the nativity story that put me in the Christmas spirit (Example). For dinner, my family cooked up a feast of tamales, potatoes, and fruit salad in our mini kitchen before exchanging gifts by the fireplace (Example). Spending quality time together made it feel just like Christmas, even though we were on vacation in a new city.

Our December holiday trip up and down the California coast was full of wonderful new experiences and memories. I learned that holidays are about more than presents or fancy meals—they are a chance to appreciate your family through shared moments of laughter and bonding (Topic Sentence). The natural scenery, festive celebrations in cities, and time unplugged from technology refreshed my mind and spirit. Looking back, that one special week created lasting memories that I will cherish for many years to come. I am grateful that my parents planned such a meaningful getaway for our family during my winter school break.

Short Essay on Holiday (200 – 250 Words)

Holiday is a day or few days off from routine everyday schedule. It is equally loved by students as well as working people. Holidays could be beneficial to us in several ways when they are spent in good activities.

Why are Holidays Good for Us?

Holidays are natural stress relievers. If you are stressed out due to routine school schedule or office assignments, a holiday comes as a big relief. It relaxes your mind and body, giving much needed rest.

It also gives you time to spend with your family and friends, something which isn’t possible on normal working days. Spending quality time with your loved ones and close friends, revive your bonding and improves mutual understanding.

A holiday also helps you to regain energy for working days ahead. You are reenergized to rejoin school or office, in a more positive and happy mood.

How to Spend Holidays?

There are lots of things that could be done on a holiday, depending on its duration. If the holiday is short, that is, suppose for a day, you can plan a trip with your family nearby or watch a movie. If the holiday is longer, you can plan to visit your distant cousins or could go to your paternal or maternal grandparents.

It is undoubtedly clear that we all love holidays, irrespective of our age or profession. Everyone should agree that the best day of the week is Sunday. There is no one who could deny that. The point of concern is that whether Sunday or any other holiday, you should spend it in such a way so that it makes you and your family and friends happier and reenergized.

Essay 2 (400 Words)

The word ‘Holiday’ fills our heart with joy and pleasure. We all want a holiday to arrive as soon as possible so that we get time to relax and play. In the essay, we will discuss about why we love holidays and how can we spend it?

Why do we Love Holidays?

We love holidays because we get time free from homework and deadlines and do whatever we want to do. Everyone, whether young or old, likes to have time to relax and enjoy it. This makes holidays the most loved and rather celebrated days on the calendar.

Everyone loves holidays for his/her own reasons. Students love holidays because they get time to play with friends or go on a picnic with the family. Father, in the house loves holidays as he gets free time from a boring routine office job. Housewives love holidays because they get to see their family together and spend time with them. Grandparents also love holidays as they get time to play with and tell; stories to their beloved grandchildren. Everyone has one reason or the other to love holidays.

How to Spend Holidays at Home

Well you can plan a lot of outdoor activities on a holiday, like playing an outdoor game or a picnic or a visit to the market. But, for some reason you can’t leave home, don’t get disheartened. There are several things that you can still do inside the house to spend your holiday. There are several indoor games like ludo, chess, and carom that you can play with your family members. It will give you time to enjoy and also sharp your brain, making you wiser.

You can simply sit down and relax with other family members. Listen to the stories told by your grandparents. You are lucky if they stay with you and you must respect them and give time to them. Moreover, you can also help your mother in the kitchen or water the plants. Though, they are small acts, they will make you content and happy in the end. It is not necessary that one spends the holiday celebrating big; even small things done within the confines of your house will make you happy.

Holidays are the most loves and important events in a person’s life. It is a very important and refreshing in its own way for everyone. Whatever you do on a holiday, you should do it with happiness and joy not to mention respect for your elders.

Essay 3 (600 Words)

We all love holidays irrespective of whether it is a long vacation or a short holiday. It gives us some time at our leisure and away from the boring everyday schedule of work and deadlines. Whether students or working professionals, holidays are welcomed by everyone and are equally important for all.

We all know that students have to cope with a lot of competition these days. They barely get any time to play and have a lot of homework and assignments to complete every day. Routine tests and exams don’t leave enough time for other extracurricular activities.

It is true that studies are important; nevertheless, play and social interaction is as much important for the students. Sadly, students don’t get to spend enough time with their family and friends, forget the play. A holiday is a time when students can relax and spend time with their family. They can also go on a picnic, watch a movie or do whatever they want. If anyone doesn’t want to move out, they can at least stay home with their parents and siblings and discuss about their studies and other issues.

It is also time to round up your friends and play with them for longer hours than usual. During a holiday you get to play more than other days as you don’t have to go to school or do homework.

Importance of Holidays for Working Professionals

Working professionals also love holidays as much as the students do. Life at the office is stressful and demands a dedicated work for at least eight to nine hours or sometimes even more than that. This is common with most of the offices. After office hours, people get so much tired that they barely manage to take dinner and go to sleep. Worse, the same cycle of events continues for weeks over weeks with just one exception – Sunday.

It’s not hard to guess how much important a Sunday or any other holiday, for that matter, is for someone who has to follow strict office routine and meet deadlines, six days a week. Sunday is the most awaited day of the week by every office goer. They get the time to spend with their family, with their children, go on a picnic with them or just take them to a local market. There are hundreds of things that professionals dream of doing in one single day. Like a Sunday any other holiday is also most welcomed and awaited.

Benefits of Holidays

Following are the benefits of holidays on a person be it student or working professional or businessman alike.

  • Holidays act as natural stress busters.
  • Provide a free time to spend with your family and friends.
  • Children get a free time to play and celebrate.
  • Give you time to read the book you have wanted to read.
  • If you like you can also complete any pending work either of school or office.
  • Gives time to chat with old friends over phone.
  • You play and stay happy which is good for health.
  • A time to make future plans and start implementing them.
  • Socialize by visiting friends and relatives.
  • Watch your favorite movie with family and friends.
  • Holidays recharge you for oncoming working days.

Holiday is your own time that you can spend the way you want. Whether you want to spend it on partying and playing or by reading a book; the choice is yours. One thing is for sure, is that, everyone whether students or professionals, love holidays for more than one good reason.

were satisfied with their child’s school experiences (Shields 9). For over 100 years, most schools have adhered to a traditional summer vacation schedule which stemmed from our primitive technological resources and advancements. However, as technological growth was made schooling throughout the year became more practical and thus the concept of a year-round schedule was introduced. With year-round schedules now becoming ever more prevalent and traditional schedules becoming slowly obsolete, a debate has sparked between the merits of the two. This debate has involved comparing the different advantages and disadvantages of the two schedules. While a traditional summer vacation may…

Should Schools Go Year Round School

Many parents use summer activities as childcare while they are working. Such as summer camps. But when the students are out on break when these camps are not in session, parents would be forced to find other child care at a costly price (“Year Round Schools Pros and Cons”). Year round schooling could also interfere with these camps. So students would not be able to attend camps such as boy scouts, girl scouts, and enrichment camps that they may use in their future lives because they would be in school. Another problem is that parents and families reject the year-round schooling and the schools lose the cooperation of the families. Year round schooling also makes it difficult to plan summer vacations or even to find family time. The students must constantly be worrying about homework after school and also want to hang out with friends. This causes them to spend less and less time with their parents and siblings. This family time is very important for the student and the families health. Students need the support and guidance of their family to stay on the right track and do the right things. Lots of family time comes during summer break. When the students don’t have to worry about homework and can hang out with their friends during the day and then spend time with their families at night ("Year-Round School Pros and Cons."). Schoolies week is becoming a major issue in Australia, with tens of thousands of kids going on holiday every year and enjoying the so-called ‘booze and drug fest’. In recent years however, students seem to be taking more care and responsibility during schoolies week, and their behaviour has generally improved. In the opinion piece “Parents who just won’t say ‘no’ to blame for schoolies scourge”, published in the Herald Sun on the 25th of September 2010, Rebecca Wilson contends in an alarming and critical tone, that parents must accept responsibility for the growing schoolies epidemic, and must learn to stand up to their kids if we are to purge this harmful event out of our Australian culture. This is a major contrast to the viewpoint of Wes…

Should Kids Go To Year Round School Essay

It is also true that kids do need some time to build themselves back up from the stress of school. Also that they need time to spend with family and not on their homework. But, it is also true that if kids don’t go to year round school, they will forget the information they have learned before.…

Year Round Schools Essay

One of the biggest issues that comes with year round school programs is the possibility of decreased quality family time, as many people use the long summer break to take extended vacations. However, most of the breaks provided by the yearlong calendar allow for at least two weeks of down time. In fact, parents with year round students find that they “appreciate the flexibility provided by year-round schooling, as it can be easier (and cheaper) to plan vacations during off-peak times.”…

What Are The Benefits Of Year Round School

On a average students enrolled in conventional school programs lose about one month of learning every summer, especially in the areas of math and spelling . Students that had no academic growth over summer breaks and at worst, students were losing up to three months of learning. Time away from school during summer clearly causes a gap in a child education. Some children learn more when they spend less time away from school. There are different type of layouts for year-round school. A common misconception is that year- round schools are in session more days than a regular school, depending on the school district. People sometimes have a misconception that year-round school are in sessions more days than a regular school. Students that attend both type of schools usually attend around one hundred eighty days in a school year. Students usually have short breaks allotted within a school year. A favorable advantage to any year-round school attendees, there is no long three month summer break, filled with little learning. Instead students only get a brief break from school and they roll right for one grade to the next…

Why We Should Start Later In School

In the United States, 60% of high school teachers feel that school should go year round with intermediate breaks. When school starts again in mid August, students have just gotten back from summer vacation, and have forgotten the material learned the year before. This a problem for teachers when they begin to teach new things that students need last year's information for. Some teachers have suggested that summer break should be shortened and other breaks should be longer so that students have less time to forget content. Parents and students argue that students need time in the summer more than other times because that is more convenient to them. Parents have certain dates they can be off, so having a longer time in somer…

Persuasive Essay On Year-Round School

Students love their summers, but their brains don’t. Children tend to forget significant information over the three month break. Year-round schools offer a decent break, so students are refreshed and ready to go back to school. Three months might not sound so long, but it's all about perspective. Three months for a ten-year old is nine months for a thirty-year old. Could you take nine months off and work as well as before? (Screenflex Portable Partitions 7) Year-round schools don’t only benefit to students but teachers as…

Essay On Year Round School

Have you ever considered switching to year round schooling? Here are some reasons not to switch, the summer time is packed and expensive, it’s harder for students and teachers, and finally there is a greater possibility for brain drain. In the article “Top 10 Reasons Why Year Round School is a Good Idea,” it states that by having one big vacation block, travel is more expensive. No matter the amount of time you get for summer you will still wind up spending more because both of the summer breaks, for year round and regular schooling, are during the summer months which are when airlines raise their prices. Also, by having less time off there is less time to play sports and hangout with family which is what most kids, like myself, look forward too. Another statement from the article said that breaks that are frequent are good for both students and teachers. With more frequent breaks the teachers will have to cram in all the information before each break. Students look forward to days off of school, but if breaks are more frequent, then they won’t get as excited because the breaks happen so…

School Year Round School Essay

Most importantly, year-round school would cause students to be exhausted. Even with the several shorter breaks, students would probably feel that they would be constantly working and stressed. Continuing to give students a longer break would allow them to rest and come back to school strong and ready for the upcoming year. A two or three month break is important to kids because they can be rewarded for a demanding school year. Summer allows children to balance work and play, which is important. Admittedly, some may argue that summer vacation causes children to forget everything, and this causes them to have to relearn and review forgotten concepts at the start of each new year. However, in my personal experience I have noticed that myself and others forget concepts just a few weeks into break, as opposed to a couple months into break. I have also noticed that after shorter vacations such as winter/spring break, kids come back needing a refresher of what they learned. Having to review concepts once a year is exhausting enough for both teachers and students. Imagine if this had to be done several times a year! It would defeat the purposes of having year-round school…

Comparison And Contrast Essay: Australian And Vietnamese Education

For example, in Australia, the school-year is done in four terms each consisting of anywhere from nine to eleven weeks. School holidays are one week in April, two weeks in June or July, two weeks in September and seven or eight weeks over summer in December or January (the number of weeks off over the summer will depend on your school, your level and state you live in). In Vietnam, one school-year usually includes two terms, first term last for five months (from September to about January) and second one will finish by the next four months (from February to early June). We have two main holidays which are Tet (or Lunar New Year) and summer holiday. On the Lunar New Year’s Days we often have about one week off school (it may be longer or shorter). After finishing nine-month school-year we, in theory, have three months of summer holiday. However, in fact extra-studying shortens the time down to one months or less (especially to students grade 9 or…

No Homework During Holiday Breaks

What is the point of a holiday break when students have to do homework during it? Why is it called a holiday break if students aren’t really getting a break from school work? Honestly a holiday break is not really a break if students have homework. But, if students have no homework during a holiday break then it will truly be a break, which is why some people think that students should have no homework during holiday breaks. Also, there are many reasons why students should have no homework during holiday breaks. Sometimes, too much homework can be too much pressure on students. Not only that, but holiday breaks are for holidays and fun, not homework. Furthermore, homework is not really the best thing to help students with. Without homework, a holiday break can actually be enjoyable and fun for students.…

Wooden sculpture dated to 11,500 years ago may have stood more than 5 m high Bol'shoi shigirskii idol.jpg

The territory of the region has been inhabited since ancient times. Numerous sites of ancient people were discovered, dating from the Paleolithic to the Iron Age. The Upper Paleolithic includes the Garinsky site on the right bank of the Sosva river near the village of Gari , the site in the Shaitansky grotto, and the site in the Bezymyanny cave (X millennium BC). [10] [11] In 1890, the 11 thousand years old (Mesolithic) Shigir idol was discovered. [12]

A settlement and a burial ground in the Kalmatsky Brod tract are located on the right bank of the Iset river and date back to the Sarmatian time (from the 3rd century BC to the 2nd century AD). They belong to the Kalmak archaeological culture. In the Kalmatsky Brod burial ground, the skeletal skulls were strongly deformed by tight bandaging in early childhood, which indicates the penetration of steppe ethnic elements to the north. [13]

Pictograms on the Neyva River AKUR 1.jpg

There are numerous pictograms on the Koptelovsky stone, on the Oblique stone, on the Two-eyed stone, Starichnaya, Serginskaya, the rock paintings of the Bronze Age on the Neyva River, Tagil River (villages Brekhovaya, Gaevaya, Komelskaya), rock carvings on Shaitan-Kamen on the right bank of the Rezh river tied to indigenous Ural population, possibly speakers of a Ugric language . [14] [15] The Gostkovskaya Pisanitsa refers to the Middle Ages. [12]

Before the first Russian colonists arrived to the region, it was populated by various Turkic and Ugrian tribes. By the 16th century, when the Middle Urals were under influence of various Tatar khanates, the strongest local state was the Vogul Pelym principality with its center in Pelym .

The Russian conquest of the Khanate of Kazan in the 1550s paved the way further east, which was now free from Tatar depredations (see Yermak Timofeyevich ). The first surviving Russian settlements in the area date back to the late 16th   – early 17th centuries ( Verkhoturye , 1598; Turinsk , 1600; Irbit , 1633; Alapayevsk , 1639). At that time, those small trading posts were governed under Siberian administration in Tobolsk . After the 1708 administrative reform, Verkhoturye, Pelym and Turinsk became a part of the new Siberian Governorate , in 1737 their territories were assigned to the Kazan Governorate .

During the 18th century, rich resources of iron and coal made Ural an industrial heartland of Russia. After getting control over Ural mines, the Demidov family put the region in the forefront of Russian industrialization. Yekaterinburg , Nevyansk and Tagil ironworks, founded in the 1700s to 1720s, soon joined the ranks of the major producers in Europe. Throughout the 18th and 19th century those newly founded factory towns enjoyed a status of special mining-metallurgical districts allowed to have a certain rate of financial and proprietary autonomy. During the 1781 reform middle Ural finally got its own regional administration in the form of the Perm Governorate .

When in 1812 the Russian government legalized gold digging for its citizens, Middle Ural became a center of gold mining. Entrepreneurs of the Perm Governorate also started the gold rush in West Siberia, soon Yekaterinburgers began to dominate the Russian market of precious metals and gemstones.

After the emancipation reform of 1861 , major Middle Uralian industries that were heavily dependent on serf labor entered decline, although it also allowed light industry to thrive. In 1878, Perm and Yekaterinburg were connected with a railroad, in 1888, railroads reached Tyumen , and ultimately, in 1897, Yekaterinburg joined the Trans-Siberian network . Emergence of railroad transportation helped to revitalize economy of Ural.

The Bolsheviks established their power in Yekaterinburg and Perm during the first days of the October Revolution of 1917. In early 1918 the dethroned Czar Nicholas II and his family were transferred under custody to Yekaterinburg. Local Bolsheviks decided autonomously to execute the royal family on July 17, 1918, to prevent its rescue of by the approaching White Army forces. Ten days later Yekaterinburg was captured by the Czechoslovak troops of Sergei Wojciechowski . For the next year the Anti-bolshevik forces took control over the region. On 19 August 1918, Provisional Government of Ural was formed in Yekaterinburg by a coalition of liberal and democratic socialist parties, it was supposed to serve as a buffer between the Komuch and Provisional Siberian governments. After the Kolchak coup d'état in Omsk in November 1918, the Government of Ural was disbanded.

In July 1919, in the course of the Yekaterinburg offense, Yekaterinburg and the surrounding areas were recaptured by the Red Army forces under command of Vasily Shorin . On the July 15th, the Perm Governorate was split by the Soviets and the east, for the first time in history, became a separate region, the Yekaterinburg Governorate. It was soon abolished and replaced by the Ural Oblast (1923-1934).

In the 1930s many industrial enterprises were established and built with the help of forced labour. [16] Local industry received another impetus during World War II, when important producing facilities were relocated here from the European part of Russia to safeguard them from the advancing Germans (for example, IMZ-Ural , Kamensk-Uralsky Metallurgical Works ). In the postwar period much of the region was off-limits to foreigners. It was over Sverdlovsk that the American U-2 spy plane pilot Gary Powers was shot down on May 1, 1960, while on a reconnaissance mission.

In 1979, there was an anthrax outbreak caused by an accident in a facility to develop biological weapons.

In 1993, Governor Eduard Rossel responded to perceived economic inequality by attempting to create a " Ural Republic ." Sverdlovsk led the "Urals Five" ( Kurgan Oblast , Orenburg Oblast , Perm Krai , Chelyabinsk Oblast and Sverdlovsk) in a call for greater regional power. They argued that the oblasts deserved as much power as the ethnic homeland republics . The Urals Republic Constitution went into effect on October 27, 1993. Then Russian President Boris Yeltsin dissolved the Urals Republic and the Sverdlovsk Parliament 10 days later (on November 9).

Legislative Assembly of Sverdlovsk Oblast Zak Sobranie SverdlOblasti.jpg

The oblast's Charter, adopted on 17 December 1994, with subsequent amendments, establishes the oblast government. The Governor is the chief executive, who appoints the Government, consisting of ministries and departments. The Chairman of the Government, commonly referred to as the Prime Minister, is appointed with the consent of the lower house of the legislature , a process similar to the appointment of the federal Prime Minister . But the Governor cannot nominate the same candidate more than twice, yet he/she can dismiss the house after three failed attempts to appoint the Premier. [ needs update ]

The Legislative Assembly is the regional parliament of Sverdlovsk Oblast. Until 2011, it was a bicameral legislature consisting of the Oblast Duma, the lower house , and the House of Representatives, the upper house . [27] Before the reform, members of the legislature served four-year terms with half of the Duma re-elected every two years. The Duma (28   members) was elected in party lists. The 21   members of the House of Representatives were elected in single-seat districts in a first-past-the-post system. The Legislative Assembly was the first bicameral legislature outside an autonomous republic, and the first regional legislature in Russia to elect members based on both party lists and single-seat districts . As of 2021, the Legislative Assembly is a unicameral legislature with a total of 50 seats, with half of the members elected by single-mandate constituencies and the other half elected in party lists for five-year terms. [28] [29]

Compliance with the Charter is enforced by the Charter Court. The existence of such regional courts in Russia, formed and functioning outside the federal judiciary, although challenged, has been upheld and persisted successfully in most constituent members of the Federation where they were established.

Until President Putin 's reforms of 2004, the Governor was elected by direct vote for terms of four years. Eduard Rossel has been the only elected governor (first elected governor for an oblast in Russia) since 1995 (appointed in 1991 and dismissed in 1993 by President Yeltsin ), re-elected in 1999 and 2003.

Since 2012, the oblast's Governor is Yevgeny Kuyvashev .

In the 1990s, the Oblast's population was distinguished by relatively high support for parties and candidates of the right and democratic persuasion. In the 1996 presidential election, Boris Yeltsin , a native of the region who lived in Sverdlovsk until the 1980s, won over 70% of the vote. In the regional elections in 2010 in the Sverdlovsk Oblast, United Russia received minimal support relative to other regions - only 39.79% of votes. [30]

Even though it could do with modernizing, the region's industries are quite diverse. 12% of Russia's iron and steel industry is still concentrated in Sverdlovsk oblast. Iron and copper are mined and processed here, the logging industry and wood-processing are important, too.

The largest companies in the region include Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company , UralVagonZavod , Enel Russia , Nizhniy Tagil Iron and Steel Works , Federal Freight . [31]

Yekaterinburg is a prominent road, rail and air hub in the Ural region. As the economic slump subsided, several European airlines started or resumed flights to the city. These include Lufthansa , British Airways , CSA , Turkish Airlines , Austrian Airlines and Finnair . Malév Hungarian Airlines used to be among those carriers but they had to drop their flights to SVX ( IATA airport code for Sverdlovsk) after a few months.

The Alapaevsk narrow-gauge railway serves the communities around Alapayevsk .

Staying on course

The Oyster Perpetual Yacht-Master 40 in Oystersteel and platinum with an Oyster bracelet.

Bidirectional rotatable bezel, timing the distance.

The Yacht-Master’s bidirectional rotatable 60-minute graduated bezel is made entirely from precious metals or fitted with a Cerachrom insert in high-tech ceramic. The raised polished numerals and graduations stand out clearly against a matt, sand-blasted background.

This functional bezel – which allows the wearer to calculate, for example, the sailing time between two buoys – is also a key component in the model’s distinctive visual identity.

Exceptional legibility

Like all Rolex Professional watches, the Yacht-Master 40 offers exceptional legibility in all circumstances, and especially in the dark, thanks to its Chromalight display.

The broad hands and hour markers in simple shapes – triangles, circles, rectangles – are filled with a luminescent material emitting a long-lasting glow.

A legendary combination

Many Rolex watches are available with the now-legendary combination of yellow, white or Everose gold and steel known as Rolesor, but Rolesium is a creation specific to the Yacht-Master.

While the case and bracelet are in rugged Oystersteel, the bezel of the Rolesium versions is made of platinum, imparting a silvery whiteness and vibrant luminosity for an unmistakable sense of luxury.

The Oyster bracelet

Alchemy of form and function.

The Oyster bracelet is a perfect alchemy of form and function, aesthetics and technology, designed to be both robust and comfortable. It is equipped with an Oysterlock folding clasp, which prevents accidental opening and the Easylink comfort extension link, also exclusive to Rolex.

This ingenious system allows the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort in any circumstance.

History of Sverdlovsk Oblast

The first people settled here in the Stone Age. At the end of the 16th century, the Russian kingdom gained control of the region. In the 17th century, the most significant stage of the initial development of this area happened, when Russian settlers began a massive advance to the east. In 1598, the first settlers founded the town of Verkhoturye on the territory of the present Sverdlovsk region.

Verkhoturye became the first capital of the Urals because of its strategic location on the Babinov road - an important crossroads of trade routes. Sverdlovsk oblast acted as a transshipment base between the central part of the country and the actively developed regions of Siberia and Central Asia.

The presence of strategic reserves of iron and copper ore, as well as large forest areas, predetermined the specialization of the region (ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, wood processing, mining, etc.). Exploration of minerals in the Sverdlovsk region began at the end of the 17th century.

In the 18th century, the Demidov dynasty founded several plants in the region that turned into large production and economic complexes. The local industry was characterized by a high level of technological development. The blast furnaces of the Ekaterinburg, Nevyansk, Tagil iron-making plants were superior in performance to the best European models of that time, and their products were the leading item of Russian exports.

More historical facts…

The launch of the Trans-Siberian Railway became a landmark event in the life of the Middle Urals, allowing large-scale export of plant products. Between 1920 and 1930, the Urals was able to once again take its place as the leading industrial region of Russia by strengthening its mining industry, creating new production facilities, developing energy and mass urban construction.

In the years of the first five-year plans, along with the reconstruction of old enterprises, several new large industrial facilities were opened: Uralmashzavod, Uralelektrotyazhmash, tool and ball bearing plants in Sverdlovsk, Uralvagonzavod and Nizhny Tagil metallurgical plant in Nizhny Tagil, pipe plants in Pervouralsk and Kamensk-Uralsky, copper smelters in Krasnouralsk and Sredneuralsk, the Ural aluminum smelter in Kamensk-Uralsky and others.

On October 3, 1938, the territory of Sverdlovsk Oblast was finally formed. During the Second World War, from July 1941 to December 1942, more than 2 million people came to the Urals region, of which more than 700 thousand stayed in Sverdlovsk Oblast.

In the postwar period, Sverdlovsk Oblast continued to develop as a major industrial center of the Urals. The industry of the region was a supplier of the most important types of machinery, products of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy, chemical, electric power, light, and food industries. Mechanical engineering and metalworking retained their leading place in the structure of the local industry.

Being one of the most important industrial and defense centers of the Soviet Union, the Sverdlovsk region remained closed to foreigners until 1991.
