Facilities: Bar service daily 1130 – 2100. Food service Mon-Thu 11300-1430 & 1700- 2000; Fri 1130 – 2100; Sat-Sun 0830 – 2100. 385 member slips. Dry storage with 6000# hoist. Guest docks for reciprocal Yacht Club members with reservations, based on availability.

Membership: Total members: 780 (40% power, 60% sail). Memberships available. Two sponsors required. Flag & Regular initiation: $500 – $10,000; dues: $126/mo.

Junior program: year-around program plus summer sailing classes open to general public. Full time Junior Director

Spent the weekend in San Diego looking at houses and marinas. Checked out a few yacht clubs. Wondering about length of waiting lists for normal 45 slip. Also, is anyone a member of SWYC?

Might take a look at Sunroad (Safe Harbor now) on Harbor Island....Been there on and off with 4 different boats over the years and it's a good marina....Expensive but good people.....They do have openings frequently....I am in a 45' slip there now..... Southwestern has a good reputation here in SD but I have no personal knowledge of the club....I do know some people who belong and they speak highly of it......

We looked into Southwestern at the beginning of Covid and considered it strongly, they even were running discounted memberships. They have limited slips in our size (36') and said it would be 2-3 years, expect it to be longer now. No individual slips, all doubles and they are on the narrow side. It's a nice club with good folks. Strong sailing presence, especially for the PHRF fleet, spend plenty of time there in my racing days. People there aren't snooty like SDYC.

We were members awhile back, but no longer and are currently unaffiliated. Nice facilities, good club vibe, a lot of families, strong sailing program especially for the kids. You will have a looooong wait to get that size boat in to a slip.

About Southwestern Yacht Club

SWYC has an unmatched location in a beautiful Point Loma residential area within the Shelter Island Yacht Basin.  There are nearby walking trails, restaurants and boating services, plus quick access to San Diego Bay and the Pacific Ocean from our docks.  With incredible Point Loma and San Diego Bay vistas, SWYC also boasts a beautiful, state-of-the-art yachting clubhouse and facilities which were refurbished in 2010.

Southwestern Yacht Club believes in giving back to the community. The Benefit on the Bay Events (Gala, Race with post-race BBQ, and Anglers Tournament) are annual fundraising events with all proceeds benefiting a worthy San Diego foundation. SWYC is proud to support several community events including the Junior Foundation (providing scholarships for youth sailing programs), the White Sea Bass Release Project and other charitable programs.

While there are docks available for guests, the club itself is able to accommodate 145 boats. Vnukovo, formally Vnukovo Andrei Tupolev International Airport, is a dual-runway international airport located in Vnukovo District, 28 km southwest of the centre of Moscow, Russia. It is one of the four major airports that serve Moscow, along with Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky.

Of the three Moscow airports, Vnukovo is the highest (204 m above sea level), so in case of fog, it has frequently served as an alternative airport.

The airfield has two intersecting runways of 3,500 m and 3,060 m in length. Each runway is 60 m wide, with 10 m-wide safety shoulders on each side. The joint runway capacity is 60 aircraft movements per hour. Runway 24 is mostly used for departures, while Runway 01 is for landings.

The airport has two passenger terminals (Terminal A and Terminal B), one general aviation terminal (for charter and business flights), one cargo terminal, and 60 aircraft stands.

Vnukovo Airport is equipped with a VIP hall, which is used by many political leaders and important people visiting Russia. The Russian President also uses Vnukovo’s VIP facility. The Tupolev airliner rework facility is located at the edge of the airport, and major overhaul and modification programmes are carried out in several large aircraft hangars. On the northern perimeter of the airport, the government VIP transport wing is located, operating head-of-state flights for high-ranking government officials. Thus, the airport is occasionally closed for regular flights when VIP flights arrive or depart.

Southwestern Yacht Club is continuously welcoming new applicants for membership who share boating interests, want to socialize or enjoy themselves as part of our active community. We have a variety of memberships that allow for everyone, individuals, couples and families, to have fun at Southwestern Yacht Club. Take a virutal tour of the Club!

As you fill out the  application , some questions may arise. We hope this will help clarify matters for you.

• Flag membership is available to any person 21 years of age or over who owns a boat not less than 14 feet overall in length. A Flag member is eligible to vote at meetings of the membership, hold elective office, and enter his/her boat in Club races.
• Regular membership is available to any person 21 years of age or over who does not own a boat. Regular members are not eligible for elective office nor shall they be entitled to vote on proposals other than dues and assessments.
• If you do not fall into either of these categories, please contact our Membership D irector   at 619-222-0438 x 111.  We can help you determine your membership category.
• Date of birth, employer and Social Security number are needed for the person in whose name the membership will be held.  We would like you to know that every attempt is made to keep your personal information private. Before your application is submitted to the Membership Committee or posted on the Club bulletin board, your date of birth and Social Security number are removed. SWYC will obtain a credit report as part of your application. Only the Club Manager, Club Treasurer and Membership Chair will review this report.
• Personal reference should be someone who is not a member of Southwestern Yacht Club.
• Yacht Club Sponsors must be two members in good standing, at least one of whom must hold a separate Flag, Regular or Life membership. They are required to fill out a confidential Southwestern Yacht Club Sponsor Form for you.
• Finally, you will get to the fun part - on the last page, circle the activities that interest you. Please include a short letter describing your boating experience and your interest in SWYC. Upon approval of your application, you will be placed in a Conditional membership for 12 months. Initiation fees must be paid in full when you are approved for Conditional Membership. During this first year, you must meet certain requirements, including involvement in two Club activities. You can meet this volunteer requirement by contacting the activity chairs who will be happy to involve you in their functions.

Fee Schedule

Southwestern Yacht Club Bylaws require a 2/3 vote of the Flag members to raise its fees. Please see Article V, Section 15: A. Charges.  All initiation fees, dues, assessments, surcharges, dry storage fees, slip rental fees and locker rental fees shall be established by the Board of Directors, subject to approval by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Flag Membership, except that the Regular Membership may vote on dues and assessments only. Sea Trial Program

For a limited time only, you can take a “Sea Trial” at Southwestern Yacht Club to see if membership is for you.

That’s right! A NO RISK TRIAL as our guest for six months with virtually all the benefits and pleasures of membership. You’re invited to partake of all the wonderful activities outlined in the New Member Information Package and, in addition, you’ll have the run of the bar and galley, the small boat hoist, use of the guest dock for your boat and the opportunity to meet all of the wonderful people who call Southwestern their “boating family”.  When your Sea Trial ends, we are sure you’ll want to continue to enjoy all that Southwestern has to offer.
