Jeff Bezos’ New Yacht Is Finally Ready to Set Sail

Amazon’s founder has been spotted on Koru, a massive schooner with a design that evokes the golden age of sailing in the early 20th century.

Koru, a very large sailboat with three masts and a dark navy hull, sails on a calm blue sea.

By Kevin Koenig

Just in time for the high season of yachting in the Mediterranean, when multimillion-dollar megayachts descend on ports like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has been photographed with his partner Lauren Sánchez on his new boat, Koru, off the coast of Spain.

Mr. Bezos’ vessel is a sailing yacht, a departure from the diesel-powered, floating palaces popular with other billionaires. But it is still massive. At 417 feet, Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, according to Boat International , and it cost an estimated $500 million to build, Bloomberg reported . (Parsifal III, the boat featured on Bravo’s reality series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” is 177 feet long — less than half the length of Koru — and cost $18 million , according to the website SuperYachtFan.)

A spokesperson for Mr. Bezos did not comment for this article; neither did Oceanco, Koru’s builder. Here is what to know about the boat.

For traditionalists, Koru is refreshing. At a time when yacht design skews outrageous — see the lizardlike, 262-foot Artefact or the otherworldly 463-foot Yas — Koru stands out as a schooner, a sailing vessel with two or more masts. Photos reveal a large sailboat with three masts, an on-deck pool and a voluptuous mermaid on the bow, that bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez. But otherwise, the sleek, classic lines suggest the patrician age of yachting in the early 20th century, said Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars.”

“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts,” Mr. MacKay said, referring to Koru’s concave, pointy forward section, “it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV. It is almost like a reincarnation. It’s certainly at odds with the stuff the oligarchs are building — those look like bloated Clorox bottles.”

Compared with the world’s very largest motor yachts — built for sheer size and the accompanying bragging rights — Koru could almost be considered quaint. Azzam, one of the world’s largest motor yachts, is nearly 200 feet longer.

The Experience

Koru will be propelled primarily by the wind. “Sailboats are usually greener than most powerboats,” said Don Anderson, a former captain of M5 , the world’s largest single-masted sailboat, at 256 feet. “I’d like to think that Koru will be one of the most ecological yachts out there, with its sails and also with the technology that will be aboard.”

“When you’re on a sailboat, you’re more in touch with the wind and the waves than on a powerboat,” he continued. “You’re more susceptible to the elements, too. But you can leave California, and once you get past the Catalinas you can basically surf downwind all the way to Hawaii. All you need to do is run with the waves.”

Mr. Bezos has been a guest on similar boats, according to Bloomberg: In 2019, he was spotted on Eos , a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg.

Bill Tripp, a Connecticut-based naval architect, said the appeal of this type of boat is clear: “When you are on a powerboat, you ask, ‘Are we there yet?’ and on a sailboat, you’re enjoying the ride and the ocean so much that you don’t ask that question.”

Koru will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip. According to its builder, this model of boat can carry these gadgets along with dozens of crew members. (Ms. Sanchez flies helicopters, and the couple was recently photographed taking a helicopter to board Abeona and then Koru.)

Abeona, a motor yacht, will have enough range to follow Koru from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean — a common course for yachts — on a single tank of gas.

The Kerfuffle

Koru set off a controversy last year — before it was even completed — in a face-off with the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The boat was built at Oceanco’s facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and needed to pass the historic Koningshaven Bridge, known as “De Hef,” in Rotterdam, to undergo testing in the North Sea.

When the city announced it would dismantle the bridge to allow the boat and its mainmast — an estimated 230 feet tall — to pass through unscathed, locals were angry. They planned a protest to throw eggs at the yacht as it cruised by. In the end, the bridge was not taken apart, and the yacht was towed to a different location to have its masts attached.

Koru is Maori for “coil” or “loop” and refers to the unfurling of a fern frond. The koru design is common in traditional Maori art, where it symbolizes new life, growth and peace. Mr. Bezos included a photo of a koru frond in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2022.

Brad Stone, who was the first to report on Koru, in his 2021 book “Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,” said the name was “consistent with where we see him today.”

“He is no longer this single-minded tech guy,” Mr. Stone said. “He’s in media and Hollywood and has a new relationship.”

Oceanco Yacht

Synonymous with entrepreneurial success, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has channeled his passion for ocean exploration through an impressive fleet of luxury marine vessels, including superyachts and megayachts. These magnificent marine builds represent Bezos’ deep-seated fascination with the mysteries of the ocean. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, his yachts serve as a gateway to maritime adventures, allowing him to traverse the globe’s waters in remarkable comfort and style. Jeff Bezos is making headlines in the luxury yacht world as his vessel, Koru by Oceanco, finished its long-awaited journey around the world and made its appearance in Fort Lauderdale at a South Florida seaport.

Measuring an astonishing 410 feet in length, the modern sailing yacht stands out as the largest in the world. Its sheer size is so enormous that the original plans to dock Koru at the Port of Everglades were redirected to Fort Lauderdale where it would stay parked next to gigantic oil tankers. The exterior showcases an exterior design in collaboration between Oceanco and Dykstra Naval Architects, perfectly blending mondern and traditional yacht building.

Inside, the interior highlights a contemporary style with natural wood tones complemented by a palette of warm neutrals, courtesy of Mlinaric, Henry and Zervudachi Interior Design and Decoration. The three-masted sailing yacht offers ample deck space to provide a variety of breathtaking views, three jacuzzis, and a swimming pool. Now that Oceanco’s Koru sailing yacht is in South Florida with Jeff Bezos, we expect to see its marine presence all over social media. Amazon founder Jeff Bezos' massive yacht has officially dropped anchor in Port Everglades.

Video captured by NBC6 shows the enormous 417-foot yacht docked in Port Everglades Tuesday weeks after the billionaire announced he was moving back to the Sunshine State, after spending nearly three decades in Seattle.

According to Boat International , the Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, and reportedly cost an estimated $500 million to build.

Bezos stepped down as the CEO of Amazon almost three years ago and said in a social media post that operations for his rocket company, Blue Origin, are “increasingly shifting” to Cape Canaveral, which is about 200 miles north of Miami.

Coincidentally, on Tuesday, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed to NBC6 that the company is searching for 50,000 square feet of leased office space in the Miami area as part of its organic growth over the past few years in the region.

Amazon currently has more than 400 corporate and tech employees assigned to our existing serviced office locations in the Miami area, but this office space would first base location in the city.

In October, Bloomberg News reported that Bezos had purchased a mansion in the area known as “Billionaire Bunker” for $79 million, after buying a neighboring estate for $68 million.

Jeff Bezos and the secretive world of superyachts

can you rent jeff bezos yacht

News that Jeff Bezos has bought a "superyacht" has revived interest in the secretive world of the uber-rich globetrotters who enjoy these ultimate status symbols. Experts say the superyacht industry has been booming for years, even during the global economic slowdown caused by the pandemic.

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon and the world's richest man, has seen his personal wealth roughly double since 2017, helped by his wallet ballooning last year as more people than ever turned to online shopping.

It's not just Bezos. Many of the world's wealthiest have seen their fortunes accumulate in recent years.

And through it all, shipyards have continued turning out mega yachts that experts say are growing larger as they gain in popularity. According to experts and brokers, 2020 saw more yachts sold than ever before, with 2021 set to again break sales records.

What do we know about Bezos' yacht?

The 417ft (127m) vessel is being built in the Netherlands by Oceanco, according to a new biography of Bezos by Bloomberg News.

It is estimated to cost about $500m (£350m), a drop in the ocean for the world's richest man, whose wealth at one point jumped $13bn in a single day in 2020. His estimated net worth now stands at nearly $200bn.

That price tag does not include a smaller motorised "support yacht" that Bezos also plans to buy. The smaller yacht features a helicopter landing pad - Bezos' girlfriend, TV host Lauren Sanchez, is a trained helicopter pilot.

The main yacht is unable to support its own helipad due to the three sailing masts on its deck.

The smaller yacht is also expected to be loaded with other goodies, such as cars, luxury speedboats , and probably even a submarine, experts say.

The highly secretive superyacht project, known as Y721, is due to be completed sometime next month, according to Bloomberg. It's likely that Bezos' order was placed several years ago, since custom-made ships like this can take around five years to build.

Oceanco, the Dutch yacht maker, has not commented on the project. They previously built the 350ft Black Pearl, the second largest sailing yacht in the world.

What is a superyacht?

There's no official definition of a superyacht (versus a regular yacht), but in the industry the term generally refers to a yacht that is over 74ft long.

Some dispute that definition, saying the term superyachts applies to ships over 200ft long. Some brokers have even taken to the term "gigayacht" to refer to ships longer than 300ft.

"It's all a little bit of marketing," says Bill Springer, who writes about the yachting industry for Forbes magazine.

Bezos' yacht, coming in at over 400ft, is almost as big as the Great Pyramid of Giza (if the vessel was laid out vertically). It's just under half as long as the Eiffel Tower.

Only a few jumbo superyachts like the Bezos vessel are completed each year, but high-profile projects are often done with such secrecy that builders are required to sign non-disclosure agreements.

Therefore it's unlikely that we'll ever know if Bezos copied the decorative flairs of Russian oligarch and fellow yachtsman Andrey Melnichenko, who lined a spiral staircase on one of his yachts with scalloped, silver-leaf walls .

How is the yacht industry doing?

The industry has been growing rapidly over the past 20 years.

According to the US National Marine Manufacturers Association, boat sales reached a 13-year high in 2020, reflecting how people were turning to the water for safe, socially distanced activities during lockdowns.

"The market's been absolutely roaring," says Sam Tucker, head of superyacht research at market intelligence firm VesselsValue. "There's been a record number of transactions done, and that trend is being sustained even until now."

The market for used yachts has also "just been nuts", he says. "The market is just red hot."

Getty Images "Motor Yacht A," pictured on the Thames in London in 2017

According to Tucker, there are 9,357 yachts over 65ft long that are currently on the seas - meaning those that have not sunk or that are being maintained on land.

About 85% of those are motorised and 15% are sailing yachts like the one Bezos has ordered.

Fewer yachts were chartered in 2020, Tucker says, which he attributes to pandemic travel restrictions preventing normal tourism activities.

Sales dropped for a few weeks as lockdown orders hit the US last year, but then immediately skyrocketed.

In June "it was like someone flipped a switch" as orders started rapidly coming in, says Bob Denison, who's been a yacht broker in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, since 2001.

"There's been nothing like it before," he says. "The amount of demand is two or threefold more than I've ever seen."

Denison's company sold 1,008 vessels in 2020 - a 35% uptake from the previous year. He is currently on track to see another 30% increase in 2021.

About 65 of those he sold in 2020 were superyachts. So far this year about 40 superyachts have been sold, meaning about 2.2 superyachts have been sold by his company per week since January.

Demand has totally outstripped supply, says his colleague Ben Farnborough, who adds that it's getting much harder now to find used boats for them to sell.

Farnborough hopes that the easing of coronavirus travel restrictions will soon make it possible to travel to Europe to source more second-hand yachts to sell in the US.

Who buys a superyacht?

The vessels are often bought by corporations and are then rented out by the company's owner, making it difficult to say for certain which yachts are owned by whom.

At famous ship-building ports, such as the one in the Netherlands where Oceanco is located, hobbyists will try to spot private airplane tail numbers in an effort to determine which billionaires have come to visit their future yacht.

Privacy is the whole point of owning a yacht, says Tucker, who calls it an "opaque industry". Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates, fellow tech billionaires, are rumoured to have yachts.

"These are very private assets and one of the reasons they're bought is for privacy," says Tucker. The privacy also offers security protections, not an insignificant consideration for the richest people in the world.

Getty Images Bezos speaks in 2017 from on board a spaceship built by his company Blue Origin

But despite the booming popularity, the ultra-rich may want to keep their newest toys extra private these days.

After Hollywood billionaire David Geffen posted online about being "isolated" on his yacht in a tropical paradise and hoping everyone else was "staying safe" during the pandemic, he was swiftly trolled by land-dwellers.

"Did David Geffen just give everyone the middle finger?" one Instagram user posted in reaction to Geffen's not-so-humble brag.

Why are they so expensive?

Yachts offer "true exclusivity," says Springer, who likens them to owning a private island or building a personalised city from scratch.

"Back in the Renaissance, rich patrons would pay - in current money - millions of dollars to build cathedrals," he says.

"And they were the most beautiful and they had the finest artisans, and they were the most spectacular projects of their day. And it was a lot of 'Hey I'm really rich and I'm gonna do this really amazing stuff with my money'."

"So superyachts are very similar in that regard."

They're getting more comfortable too, and are going to places beyond the "classic glamour ports" like Monaco, Springer says. People are now taking them to more exotic and far-flung locations, such as Antarctica and Papua New Guinea, as owners find that they are more than just status symbols.

Getty Images A cathedral in Spain

The finest superyachts are custom-made, with the global craftsmen addressing every single detail for the tastes of the world's most rich and elite.

They can take years to build. A yacht as big as Bezos' probably involved about 400 workers and designers, estimates Farnborough. When completed, it will probably need about 60 people to crew it.

Annual operating costs amount to about 10% of the purchase price, says Tucker from VesselsValue. High oil prices and the potential for further lockdowns could lead to more used yachts hitting the market over the coming years, he estimates.

What else costs as much as a superyacht?

Bezos bought the Washington Post newspaper in 2013 for just $250m - so about half the cost of his new superyacht.

A painting by artist Jean-Michel Basquiat is currently on auction in New York for a low estimate of $145m. There's also a Claude Monet painting going for about $350m.

Virgin Galactic has been pre-selling tickets into space for between $200,000 to $250,000 in recent years as they prepare for their first commercial launch.

But if you're Jeff Bezos, there's no need to book a ticket. Bezos, who is behind the space venture Blue Origin, could fly on his own rocket ship.

If you’ve noticed Beyoncé and Jay-Z haven’t been to a few major events recently (like the MTV VMAs and last night's Met Gala ), it’s because they’re busy vacationing on a massive yacht. But it’s not just any big yacht—it’s the world’s largest yacht available for charter. It's called the Flying Fox and costs nearly $4 million a week to rent.

On Instagram , Beyoncé has been sharing photos from her family vacation on the impressive ship—which measures 417 feet long and likely cost more than $500 million to build, Bloomberg reports . It’s rumored that Jeff Bezos bought the yacht, but other sources say he’s not the owner.

Onboard, the ship can accommodate 25 guests in suites with clean-lined, contemporary decor, Boat International reports . There are 55 crew members, many of whom are dual-trained to be chefs, housekeepers, medics, dive instructors, hairdressers, and more. The ship has several decks—including a helipad on the roof—and the amenities feature a vast spa pool, cryosauna, gym, submarine, and water sports equipment (to name a few!). Oh, and the yacht is so big that it even has its own support yacht.

It’s unclear how long Beyoncé and Jay-Z plan on vacationing on the boat, but they’re out there living their best lives. Why attend a few crowded events when you can have a whole megayacht to yourself?

Love knowing what your favorite stars are up to? Same. Let’s keep up with them together .

Flying Fox – The mega-yacht owned by Jeff Bezos

The Italian summer of Flying Fox, the imposing mega-yacht owned by Amazon’s number one, Jeff Bezos

Throughout the summer there were rumors that Jeff Bezos, creator of Amazon and one of the richest men in the world, was on vacation in Italy . What is certain is that the megayacht Flying Fox, owned by him, has been spotted several times in the Mediterranean Sea , more precisely off the Sardinia and Sicily Italian coasts.

Who is Jeff Bezos?

For the few who don’t know him yet, it is right to make a premise and explain who we are talking about: born in 1964, Jeff Bezos is considered a pioneer of technology, a great American entrepreneur who was able to build a real empire based on Amazon.

Driven from an early age by a passion for technology, he studied computer science and electronic engineering, then landed on Wall Street, where he worked as the vice president of an investment company. When he has already reached what seems to be a well-started career, he decides to quit his job and launch himself into the Amazon project around 1995. From that moment on, growth has been exponential, as in 1997, when Bezos and his associates decided to launch into the world of e-commerce presenting itself as an online alternative for shopping.

In 2013 he completed his affirmation in the world of economics with the purchase of the Washington Post, paid for an incredible 250 million euros.

What kind of yacht is the Flying Fox?

Defining it as a luxury yacht, even if true, is an understatement for this boat.

According to the world’s largest yachts ranking, Flying Fox is positioned at number 20 while instead, it is the tenth-largest yacht built by the German house Lürssen , based in Bremen.

Flying Fox is a 136-meter-long motor yacht delivered in 2019. If it is true that size sometimes doesn’t matter, with a width of 22.5 meters, a draft of 5.1 meters, and a volume of over 9,000 tons, designers did not want to run the risk of going unnoticed.

About the project, the exterior design was entrusted to Espen Øino International, while the interiors were signed by Mark Berryman Design Ltd.

Flying Fox means huge spaces for guests

Up to 25 guests can be accommodated aboard the Flying Fox superyacht, which also can accommodate up to 54 crew members. The service onboard is therefore guaranteed.

Guests are split between 11 cabins, although calling them such doesn’t do them justice. These are luxurious mini-apartments studied in every detail. The master suite incorporates its own study and benefits from his and her bathroom. The remaining 10 are all top-notch VIP suites.

Fairytale quality and equipment the Jeff Bezos’ yacht

It is useless to list the countless comforts that can be found onboard.

Interiors, made of bamboo, teak, and oak wood, have space for a spa complete with a wellness center, sauna and steam room, a diving center with underwater lights, a real cinema, and even a lounge with a fireplace to relax after a “busy” day. All bridges are naturally connected with a comfortable and large internal lift.

The most sensational features, however, are found on the outside. On the main bow deck and on the upper aft deck there are not one but two helipads, while just above the aft beach club there is a beautiful swimming pool that covers almost the entire ship width.

Where was Jeff Bezos’ yacht Flying Fox in the summer of 2021?

Bezos’ megayacht was spotted several times off the Italian coast this summer, attracting great curiosity from local and international media.

It is not certain who was on board, if the owner of Amazon himself or some other wealthy guest, as the stages and the route followed by the Flying Fox are not clear.

According to the various sightings that followed, it started from Nice , in France, would have sailed southwards, first touching the Aeolian Islands , then continuing towards Sardinia and Sicily where it was sighted in Balestrate, off the Palermo coast. Finally, head towards the Gulf of Naples and the Sorrento and Amalfi Coast .

What if we want to rent Flying Fox?

We can safely say it: it is not a yacht for anyone. Flying Fox seems to have been bought by Jeff Bezos for a figure close to half a billion dollars!

Although it is a private yacht, it is nevertheless possible to rent it but at a monstrous figure: The company that manages the Flying Fox rents this sea jewel for short periods at a cost that is around three million euros per week!

Jeff Bezos' fanciest toys, from a superyacht to the newest Gulfstream jet

  • Amazon founder Jeff Bezos owns expensive properties, planes, and a megayacht.
  • His most recent acquisitions include mansions on an island in Florida and the latest Gulfstream jet.
  • Here's a rundown of Bezos' most expensive toys.

Insider Today

Jeff Bezos has become one of the world's richest people , so it's no surprise that he's purchased lots of expensive toys, from a megayacht to houses on a private island in Florida.

Bezos has a net worth of $192.3 billion and is currently the second-richest person in the world, according to Forbes .

Bezos has invested some of the money that he's made since founding Amazon in 1994 into other businesses. He founded rocket and aerospace company Blue Origin in 2000, for instance. And in 2013, he acquired The Washington Post. This year, he also sold some of his Amazon shares to fund Day 1 Academies , a chain of nonprofit preschools that he founded.

But Bezos has also spent hundreds of millions on planes, a yacht, houses, and other property. A representative for Bezos didn't respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

Here's a look at the Bezos-owned planes, yachts, and houses that we know about:

One of Bezos' newest acquisitions seems to be a Gulfstream G700.

Bezos's newest private jet appears to be a Gulfstream G700, according to data from JetSpy. The Amazon founder likely took possession of the plane in July, flight data shows.

The G700 just got approval to fly from the FAA in March and is worth around $80 million, BI previously reported.

The Gulfstream would be Bezos' fourth jet.

The G700 is the latest private jet purchased by Bezo, who has collected multiple private planes over the years.

He previously purchased two Gulfstream G650ERs as well as a Pilatus PC-24, BI reported. With the addition of the G700, Bezo's aircraft are now collectively worth more than $200 million.

Through the same LLC that his two G650ERs are registered to, Bezos has also owned a hangar in Seattle since 2015.

Bezos also has a megayacht called Koru.

Koru , a 127-meter yacht, made her debut in 2023 with a trek around the Mediterranean. The vessel cost about $500 million and includes the Abeona, a support vessel, BI previously reported.

The yacht has hosted celebrities from Bill Gates to Leonardo DiCaprio . Bezos and fianc ée Lauren Sánchez also had their engagement party aboard Koru last year.

Bezos recently bought three mansions on an exclusive island off of Miami.

Over the past year, Bezos has acquired three homes in Indian Creek Village , an island off of Miami known for its lux residences. Other notable property owners there include Tom Brady and Carl Icahn.

Bezos has spent $237 million between the three properties.

He also owns property in the nation's capital.

In 2016, two years before Amazon announced that it was building its HQ2 in Arlington, Virginia, then-Amazon CEO Bezos paid $23 million for a compound across the river in Washington, D.C.

Bezos then spent another $12 million renovating the two-structure property, which previously hosted a textile museum. The property features a ballroom, 11 bedrooms, and 25 bathrooms, BI reported in 2018.

The mansions are just a few properties amongst Bezos' extensive real estate holdings.

The Amazon co-founder owns properties in his company's hometown, including a lakeside compound with a private shoreline, boathouse, and a waterslide.

But his real estate holdings extend far beyond the Pacific Northwest.

In West Texas, Bezos acquired the Figure 2 Ranch, a 30,000-acre property, in 2004, Architectural Digest reported in May. The ranch plays host to Blue Origin.

Bezos' other holdings include homes in Beverly Hills and luxury apartments in Manhattan, according to Architectural Digest.

What Jeff Bezos's Super Yacht, Historic Architecture, and Rotten Eggs Have in Common

man in a suit tie

Jeff Bezos’s new super yacht is back in the headlines for a potentially smelly reason that has more to do with rotten eggs than it does naval design. Most people interpret the phrase, “the only way out is always through,” figuratively, but Jeff Bezos isn’t a regular person. After all, while some people took a drive to a nearby lake or boarded a plane to one of the coasts for their first pandemic trip, Bezos strapped himself into his rocket ship and journeyed to outer space. So it should come as no surprise that the billionaire behind Amazon is planning on doing something else equally absurd: He wants the Rotterdam government to temporarily dismantle a historic bridge so that he can pass through in his $500 million, three-mast, 417-foot yacht . It’s unclear whether or not the government will comply, but if it does, the locals plan on welcoming him to their city with eggs. That’s right: Rotterdam residents will egg the world’s second-wealthiest individual for all to see.

architecture in city

The Koningshavenbrug De Hef in Rotterdam may be temporarily dismantled to make way for Jeff Bezos’s new yacht.

The bridge in question is Koningshaven Bridge, known locally as “De Hef,” and it’s been standing—at 130 feet—since 1927. Bezos wants to take it apart so that he can bring his new sailboat, with towering masts, home. Jeff Bezos’s new yacht, which he is having custom-made at the Oceanco shipyard in the Netherlands, will be the world’s largest sailing yacht. It’s supposed to be ready for him to pick up and sail away in June of 2022, but he’s making plans to get it out onto the sea now because it’s not a typical boat that can traverse European rivers. Though Bezos surely has no issue inconveniencing locals or dismantling history, he is in a bit of a pickle because the only way to get the yacht from the shipyard to the open water is through De Hef.

Luckily for anyone with a sense of humor who wouldn’t mind watching the billionaire take an egg to the face, Bezos will probably win this fight. Plus, municipal project leader Marcel Walravens announced that the complicated construction project would move forward for logistical and economic reasons. What the economic reasons he’s referring to are unknown, but with Jeff Bezos footing the bill, they will likely be quite compelling.

yacht in sea

Another one of Bezos’s yachts is called “Flying Fox,” and it measures 446-feet-long.

None of that has been confirmed yet, though, which makes deciding whether or not to take the bridge apart a bit tricky—especially because dismantling it may cause permanent damage to the structure.

Whether or not the bridge suffers long-term damage, locals vow to show up to the bridge with cartons of rotten eggs. The only issue is: According to Curbed , the egg would have to fly more than 200 feet to hit the yacht’s hull, which isn’t impossible, but it’s not easy. Hopefully, former and current athletes with impressive throwing abilities will turn up armed with eggs.

De Hef isn’t currently in use because it was replaced by a tunnel and eventually decommissioned in 1994. That doesn’t mean it’s not an architectural treasure worthy of being left alone for the rest of time. Perhaps the only silver lining to its temporary deconstruction is the photos of Jeff Bezos’s new yacht covered in the putrid stench of rotten eggs courtesy of Rotterdam locals. Unfortunately, for now, the small European city won’t know the fate of their beloved bridge for another few months, but until then, they’re making extra stops to the store for eggs.

The world's 18th longest luxury motor yacht, “Flying Fox” belonging to Jeff Bezos, the founder of the United States e-commerce giant Amazon, was spotted Sunday on a blue cruise in the bays of Turkey’s Aegean province of Muğla, according to Anadolu Agency.

Jeff Bezos' Cayman Islands-flagged 136-meter-long (446.1-feet-long) yacht docked at Akbük Bay in the Gulf of Gökova on the western coast of Turkey.

Attracting attention with its size, the yacht features two helipads and a helicopter. Having a pool, jacuzzi, spa, gym, water sports and cinema facilities, it can host 22 guests in 11 cabins, one of which is a master suite and 10 of which are for VIPs.

The weekly rent of Flying Fox, which is ranked 18th according to the length order of motor yachts, is stated as 3 million Euros on the websites serving in the yacht sector.

The yacht was seen in famous tourist destinations of Muğla, Fethiye and Marmaris, as well as Bodrum the previous summer.

Royal caribbean’s utopia of the seas is a monument to cooperation.

Coco Cay, Bahamas – Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas cruise ship had its maiden voyage just last month. Construction of what exceeds 1,100 feet in length took place in Saint-Nazare, France, but it’s more realistic to say that this monument to the vastness of the human imagination was produced around the world. And that’s no insight.

What’s so big, what’s so fast, and what defies description in consideration of the myriad of features on board speaks to something that’s well beyond the capacity of Saint-Nazare’s inhabitants to create. And that’s not only not an insight, it’s also not an insult of those who live and work in Saint-Nazare.

When it’s remembered that something as basic as a pencil is a brilliant consequence of impressive amounts of global cooperation, what can be said about the almost tiring vastness of the Utopia of the Seas? Really, how to describe that which moves so fast on the ocean, but that entertains thousands of passengers of varying interests all day and night for three and four-day excursions? If Amazon is “the everything store,” Utopia is the everything ship full of endless eating, swimming, sporting, and entertainment options. Which is a description that most certainly insults the ship’s vastness. Better to just check it out, ideally in person, but at least online. Then marvel. In particular, marvel at the incredibly sophisticated blending of global effort, parts and knowledge that was necessary to create the Utopia in five short years.

In his uneven but at times wildly insightful 2011 book Adapt , Tim Harford wrote about an individual who set out to build a rather prosaic toaster oven all on his own. Ok, not so fast with prosaic and toaster. As Harford noted, an ordinary model “has more than 400 components and sub-components, made from nearly 100 different materials,” after which consider all the components, sub-components, and materials that go into the making of those 400 components, sub-components, and materials. It wears you out just thinking about it, and this is but a toaster oven.

Needless to say, the end result of this individual endeavor was a much-less-than-sleek looking toaster oven that soon enough wasn’t one. It broke. Harford’s essential point was that an individual could spend his life constructing a toaster that wouldn’t measure up to the cheapest version on sale at retailers, and that likely wouldn’t last long as is.

New Password Hacking Warning For Gmail, Facebook And Amazon Users

Trump vs. harris 2024 polls: harris leading likely voters by 2 points in latest survey, samsung slashes galaxy s24 price ahead of iphone 16 release.

Contemplate the limits of the individual working alone relative to the Utopia of the Seas. To then say that it’s a spectacular product of staggering amounts of globalized cooperation of man and machine insults statement of the obvious. It also raises the obvious question of the why behind embrace of tariffs and other barriers to the allegedly dirty word that is “globalization.” Utopia of the Seas rejects such anti-progress thinking.

That’s because there’s quite simply no way the Utopia of the Seas would exist absent mostly free global trade. Not a chance. Not only would the cost of the Utopia’s production in a parts and labor sense soar exponentially if it were constructed in autarkic fashion, it’s arguably even truer to say that limits of human knowledge within any one country would make construction of something so vast an utter impossibility.

Interesting about all this is that the Utopia of the Seas set sail during a summer in which Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are battling it out for the right to be president of the United States. As part of their battle, both are telling voters they’ll employ tariffs aimed at substantially raising the cost of cooperation for individuals and machines the world over. In Harris’s case, she likely just doesn’t know that it literally “takes a world” to create any market good. In Trump’s case, the fact that his last name can be found on buildings around the world signals that he intimately knows what Harris doesn’t.

Despite this, both candidates have made their support of tariffs about protecting the typical worker. A walk of the Utopia of the Seas (more than a few Make America Great Again caps were spotted by yours truly) calls such a stance into question. Jeff Bezos’s yacht is 417 feet to Utopia’s 1,100+ feet, but the working-men and women on Bezos’s Koru are working .

On the Utopia of the Seas they’re playing in a fashion that even people like Bezos couldn’t have imagined not terribly long ago, not to mention the 2,000+ that the Utopia employs. Royal Caribbean’s latest (but certainly not its last) creation is a reminder that free trade doesn’t just bless workers with plenty at prices that continue to decline, it can also lay claim to substantial work opportunities as a consequence of people working together without regard to country origin.

Breaking news, inside jeff bezos and lauren sanchez’s hot yacht summer with kim kardashian, leo & more.

Lauren Sanchez rocks a tiny gold bikini as she and billionaire fiance Jeff Bezos ride jet skis on the Aegean Sea in Greece.

If Jeff Bezos’ and Lauren Sánchez’ hot yacht summer were a movie, it would be a mashup of “Three Coins in the Fountain,” “Eat Pray Love” and “The Perfect Storm” — and the season’s not over yet.

The 60-year-old billionaire and his fiancée, 54, are sailing the Mediterranean again this summer on Bezos’ $485 million yacht Koru , which features a sultry figurehead on the prow that looks an awful lot like Sánchez.

They’ve cruised to Greece, Italy and Spain, with a pit stop Wednesday on the secluded island of Menorca in the Balearics, where they took refuge — along with some other expensive yachts — from a low-pressure storm called Dana.

Bezos and Sánchez have been accompanied on the 417-ft Koru by their support yacht, Abeona , which holds their water toys and a fleet of A-list guests who have included Kim Kardashian, Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom, Leonardo DiCaprio and his 25-year-old Italian supermodel girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti, and others.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez laughing with Leonardo DiCaprio, Vittoria Ceretti, Orlando Bloom, and Katy Perry after lunch at Nikki Beach

“They’re the flavor of the month in the Med,” said a longtime entertainment exec just back from a month in the South of France.

“For a while it was the Russians, and way back in the day it was Ari [Onassis] and Maria [Callas] on the [yacht] Christina. But the Russians like Roman Abramovich are pretty much gone now. There’s always a new wave,” the exec said. “[Sánchez] seems tacky but I’ve heard she’s very nice and Bezos adores her. Is she ever going to look like Babe Paley? Not in this lifetime.”

The exec also pointed out that the Koru is more than 100 feet longer than Barry Diller’s yacht, which measures just over 300 feet — but not as big as David Geffen’s 453-foot vessel — saying billionaires often have “aquatic penis envy.”

The world’s second-richest couple channeled their inner Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck in Rome on Tuesday when they shared a passionate kiss in front of the famed Trevi Fountain, seemingly oblivious to the hordes of tourists.

Bezos, in a fitted golf shirt, navy pants and boating shoes, and Sánchez, in a red halter minidress and peep-toe heels, also joined the crowd in the time-honored tradition of tossing money into the fountain with their right hands.

Oh, to know what they wished for.

Later they held hands and walked down cobblestone streets to their dinner destination, Pierluigi, where photographers snapped them dining on white wine, salad and bread at a table containing a singular red rose.

The couple took a bit of a solemn detour on land on Thursday when they swung by the Vatican for a visit with 87-year-old Pope Francis.

“He reminded us not to take life too seriously, a simple yet powerful reminder to keep lightness in our hearts,” Sanchez wrote on social media.

Bezos and Sánchez began their summer in June island-hopping in Greece with a rare appearance by Bezos’ 19-year-old son Preston, who Bezos shares with his ex-wife Mackenzie Scott.

Kim Kardashian then joined them, zipping around the Med on jetskis . At one point Kardashian and an unidentified blonde rode her jetski as they took selfies.

The “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” alum has been tight with Sánchez and Bezos for a couple of years,  going on a double date  in 2022 and  attending a Beyoncé concert  in 2023.

Jeff Bezos and a woman shaking hands with Pope Francis at the Vatican

In September 2023, the trio  had dinner together in New York City , joined by Nicky Hilton.

The “Kardashians” star made it clear that Sánchez is  part of her inner circle  when she celebrated her birthday in a Season 5 episode.

Meanwhile, Bezos and Sánchez were also spotted on their own in Greece on the island of Hydra, walking hand-in-hand on the seafront. They popped up next on Mykonos and from there it was on to Pserimos, famed for its beaches.

July saw them jet to Sun Valley, Idaho, for the town’s namesake financial conference attended by billionaires.

Jeff Bezos' ultra-luxe sailing yacht, The Koru, with multiple masts, measuring 417 feet and costing $475 million

Last weekend, the pair pulled up on the island of Sardinia with Perry, Bloom, DiCaprio and Ceretti. The celebs came to shore on one of Bezos’ smaller boats for lunch at a high-end beach resort before heading back to Koru.

Bloom and Perry — who started  their own month-long vacation in France  — also vacationed with Bezos and Sánchez  around this time last year. In August 2023, the foursome was spotted walking around Dubrovnik, Croatia, with Usher.

DiCaprio and Bezos have  been “really close friends” for years,  with a source previously telling Page Six they often vacation together and find “common ground in the  fight against climate change  and their work in environmental activism.”

Koru ranks as the planet’s thirty-second largest yacht and costs about $25 million to operate annually. The vessel can accommodate 18 guests and requires a crew of 40 sailors to manage its amenities.

Its three huge, 229-foot masts power it to 20 knots. It’s also the biggest billionaire’s yacht which can move under sail power alone.

Bezos and Sánchez recently relocated from Seattle to Indian Creek Island in Miami, where Bezos bought three mansions for about $237 million — surely a nice home if you’ve got to be on land.

Did Bayesian superyacht’s 237ft mast cause it to sink?

B ayesian’s 237ft metal mast may have played a part in the sinking of the superyacht off the coast of Sicily , experts have suggested.

The yacht, named after the mathematical theory Mike Lynch used to make his millions in the tech industry, foundered in the small hours of Monday morning.

Key among potential reasons for the loss of the vessel will be its most striking feature – the aluminium mast.

Four British personnel from the Marine Accident Investigation Branch are on their way to Palermo to carry out a preliminary assessment.

There are also theories that hot overnight temperatures of 27C (80C) could have prompted passengers to leave portholes and windows open – hastening the sinking when the high winds hit.

Launched in 2008 by Perini Navi, Bayesian is one of the 50 largest sailing yachts in the world and her mammoth mast supported a total sail area of almost 32,000 sq ft.

Bayesian had the tallest aluminium mast in the world when it first took to the seas under her former name Salute. The record was overtaken last year when Jeff Bezos, the Amazon billionaire launched his yacht, Koru.

Koru’s masts stretch to 278ft tall according to Boat International magazine.

Tom Sharpe, a former Royal Navy commander and warship captain, said initial reports from survivors and witnesses suggested “that the weather was sufficiently violent to cause her to capsize at anchor”.

Weather reports from Palermo airport, 12 miles west of the yacht, suggest that at about 4am, winds switched from a gentle south-westerly breeze to gusts of 40mph, with temperatures dropping.

Local newspapers have described the weather as a tornado and a waterspout, which is a tornado above water.

The pressure of high winds on the mast could have helped tip the boat over in rough seas, experts have suggested.

Mr Sharpe said capsizing seemed “unlikely” to him given the Bayesian’s size “and that boats like that are designed to survive poor weather – unless something failed at the same time like a valve that let water in and made the whole boat unstable”.

He said it was more likely that the Bayesian had “dragged anchor”. Anchors are designed to lodge on rocks on the seabed, but if the seabed is too soft, or weather is so bad that the anchor is dislodged, then a boat can drag its anchor and drift.

If a boat drifts into an obstruction such as a rock or another boat, this can damage the boat by tearing a hole in its side leading to sinking, Mr Sharpe suggested.

The sea bed off Porticello, the Silician harbour nearest to where Bayesian was moored for the night, consists of a mixture of rocky and muddy areas, according to nautical charts reviewed by The Telegraph.

This means the yacht could have dragged anchor if it had been lowered into a soft, muddy patch of seabed.

A captain of another boat anchored nearby said his vessel was hit by abnormally strong winds on Monday morning.

Karsten Borner said the Sir Robert BP was battered by strong gusts in the early hours of the morning but he managed to stabilise the vessel while anchored by using the engine.

He said as they were doing this, they noticed the Bayesian nearby and manoeuvred to avoid hitting it.

“We managed to keep the ship in position, and after the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone,” said Capt Borner.

Mr Sharpe said: “From a seamanship point of view, the other boat (Sir Robert BP) coming up on her main engines and using those to keep position around [her own] anchor is what you should do. Yacht anchors are often not that robust and that is the best way to avoid putting too much strain on it and/or dragging.”

An alternative theory is that the weight of the mast led the Bayesian to capsize.

A yacht industry source told The Times that the vessel sank after the weight of her mast took the hull beyond its “down-flooding angle” – the point at which a boat cannot right itself after swinging at a steep angle – meaning water rushed over the sides into the interior.

“The wind toppled the mast, which fell over the side, causing the boat to heel over and take on water, capsize and sink very quickly,” the source said.

This can occur whether the mast snapped off or not.

Sam Jefferson, editor of Sailing Today, told The Telegraph: “She has a very tall, aluminium mast – I believe it is the second tallest aluminium mast in the world – and that would not have helped.

“Many yachts with big masts have carbon masts instead of aluminium as these save on weight and improve stability and performance.

“Stability was obviously the problem in the extremely strong winds she was experiencing and I’d assume the boat was pinned on its side and could not right before it filled up with water.”

Another superyacht expert who asked not to be named told The Telegraph that the mast could have pulled the Bayesian over into capsizing, although he expressed some scepticism, saying sailing yachts are designed to prevent that from happening.

He said the anchor-dragging theory was also a plausible explanation for why the Bayesian sank.

Typically, crews try to anchor in safe spots that are sheltered away from the wind, they said.

The Bayesian was moored just off Porticello, a few miles east of Palermo. Prevailing winds from the north-east may have robbed the vessel of the shelter offered by the Sicilian coast, which lay to the west.

Dr Lynch was reportedly aboard the vessel. His wife, Angela Bacares, is among those rescued but six others, including four Britons, are still missing.

One person, reportedly the yacht’s chef, died in the incident and his body was recovered by rescuers.

The Bayesian’s last refit was in 2020.

The vessel was listed for rent for up to €195,000 (£166,000) a week, according to online charter websites.

The interior featured six cabins – one master, three doubles and two twin rooms – for up to a dozen guests, with the crew occupying separate quarters.

Fitted out in a Japanese style, the interior was styled by the Remi Tessler design house.

Under her former name Salute, the yacht won the Best Exterior prize at the World Superyacht Awards in 2009, and the Best Interior at the International Superyacht Society Awards in 2008.

A coastguard statement issued on Monday morning said the missing passengers were of “British, American and Canadian nationality”.

Camper & Nicholsons, managers of the Bayesian, confirmed the vessel sank at about 4.30am following “severe weather”.

The Italian Coast Guard is leading search and rescue operations, and said on Monday it had safely recovered 15 individuals.

As e-commerce continues to reshape the global retail landscape, the demand for logistics and distribution centers has surged. Industrial real estate investment trusts ( REITs ), which specialize in owning and managing warehouses, fulfillment centers and distribution hubs, are positioned to be the top beneficiaries of this trend – especially those that have e-commerce powerhouses like Amazon.com (NASDAQ: AMZN ) as their tenants.

In addition to their growth potential, REITs typically offer high dividend yields. Like all REITs, industrial REITs must distribute a significant portion of their income to shareholders as dividends .

Commercial real estate has historically outperformed the stock market, but few investors have the capital or resources needed to invest in this asset class. Get started investing in commercial real estate today .

Let's look at three industrial REITs that name Amazon as one of their top tenants.

Stag Industrial

As of June 30, Stag Industrial (NYSE: STAG ) owns and manages a portfolio of 573 industrial buildings across 41 states, containing over 114 million square feet. Amazon is Stag's largest tenant, with six leases that equate to approximately 2.8% of its annualized base rent. Other notable tenants include Coca-Cola, FedEx, Tempur Sealy and DHL.

Stag currently pays a monthly dividend of $0.123333 per share, which equates to an annualized dividend of $1.48 per share. At the time of this writing, its stock yields approximately 3.75%.

In addition to offering monthly income and a high yield, Stag offers dividend growth. It has raised its annual dividend payment every year since its initial public offering in 2011, resulting in 12 consecutive years of increases. Its 0.7% hike in January puts it on pace for 2024 to mark the 13th consecutive year with an increase.

As of June 30, Prologis Inc. (NYSE: PLD ) owned ownership interests in more than 5,500 industrial properties worldwide, containing approximately 1.2 billion square feet, making it the largest REIT in the world. Amazon is Prologis' largest tenant, with about 45.7 million square feet leased, representing 5.1% of its net effective rent. Other notable tenants include Home Depot, FedEx, DHL and UPS.

Prologis currently pays a quarterly dividend of $0.96 per share, which equates to an annualized dividend of $3.84 per share. At the time of this writing, its stock yields approximately 3.1%.

Like Stag, Prologis has consistently grown its dividend. It has raised its annual dividend payment each of the last 10 years and its 10% hike in February puts it on track for 2024 to mark the 11th consecutive year with an increase.

EastGroup Properties, Inc.

As of June 30, EastGroup Properties (NYSE: EGP ) owned and managed more than 500 industrial properties containing approximately 60.2 million square feet. With four leases, Amazon is EastGroup's largest tenant, representing approximately 1.8% of its annualized base rent. Other notable tenants include Starship Logistics, Trane and FedEx.

EastGroup currently pays a quarterly dividend of $1.27 per share, which equates to an annualized rate of $5.08 per share. At the time of this writing, its stock yields approximately 2.8%.

While EastGroup may have the lowest yield of the stocks discussed in this article, it has the most impressive track record of dividend payments. It has paid dividends for 31 consecutive years with 28 increases and no reductions, including increases in the last 12 years.

Better Yields Than Some REITs?

The current high-interest-rate environment has created an incredible opportunity for income-seeking investors to earn massive yields, but not through REITs.

Arrived Homes, the Jeff Bezos-backed investment platform has launched its Private Credit Fund , which provides access to a pool of short-term loans backed by residential real estate with a target 7% to 9% net annual yield paid to investors monthly. It paid 8.1% in July. The best part? Unlike other private credit funds, this one has a minimum investment of only $100.

As long-term rates go down and short-term rates stay high, there’s a unique chance to invest in fix & flip loans before yields drop. Check out Benzinga's favorite high-yield offerings.

We all know Jeff Bezos is pretty rich. I mean, he's the second wealthiest person in the world, with a net worth of $191 billion, according to Forbes.

And as a result of the massive sums of money sitting in Bezos' bank account, the Amazon founder has some pretty nice things.

It was recently revealed Bezos has purchased his fourth private jet at the whopping price tag of $80 million.

Business Insider reports Bezos bought a Gulfstream G700 last month, a luxury private jet I'm sure he'll use to get to meetings across the world.

So, what is included on this swanky aircraft?

Well, it features 20 panoramic windows alongside 'whisper-quiet cabin with 100 percent fresh, plasma-ionized air replenished every two to three minutes'.

Meanwhile, Quartz reports the plane's seats are hand-crafted and can also be converted into ergonomic beds.

Pictures of the plane posted online seem to have a screen in place too, meaning Bezos and his buddies shouldn't get bored while on board.

Bezos certainly doesn't have to fly alone either, with the Gulfstream being able to accommodate up to 13 guests, while it can also sleep up to eight people.

Manufactures of the aircraft also claim the jet has broken many speed records and features innovative and sustainable technology.

According to JetSpy, Bezos appeared to take his delivery of the plane on 10 July.

The aircraft then apparently took several journeys before departing for Ibiza.

Funnily enough, Bezos and his fiancée Lauren Sanchez were papped on the Spanish island recently, walking to the Amazon founder's $500 million yacht.

Alright for some, eh.

If you're in the market for a plane, you could do worse (Gulfstream)

While it may sound like Bezos and his wife-to-be live a pretty lavish lifestyle, Sanchez revealed their 'pretty normal' typical day.

"Our lives are pretty normal," she told Vogue last year. "Daily life mostly revolves around our kids."

Sharing more details on their seemingly 'normal' day-to-day lives , Sanchez revealed they have a pact that whoever wakes up first in the morning has to make the first brew.

Bezos also works out with his fiancée, with Sanchez labelling the billionaire as a 'monster in the gym'.

Sanchez went on to say the family have dinner together every single night, which follows the kids' piano and tutoring lessons.

Oh, and now they can nip out in their new private jet on the weekend too.

The Boston Celtics are one of the most notable franchises in sports history.

They are also coming off a season where they won their first NBA Championship since 2008.

Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Kristaps Porzingis, Jrue Holiday and Derrick White help make up arguably the most talented roster in the league.

Following their incredible season, the Celtics announced that they were going to be up for sale.

Recently, Bill Simmons of The Ringer reported that Jeff Bezos could be a potential buyer of the legendary franchise.

Simmons: "In the last few days, there's been some, I think, legitimate buzz about Jeff Bezos buying the Celtics. I think it's real. I think he's gonna be one of the suitors."
