We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our clients Yacht Management department in Palm Beach.

Job Purpose: The primary purpose of this role is to support yacht owners and crew in maintaining and operating managed yachts effectively. You will ensure that these yachts are kept in optimal condition, maintained in class, reliable, ready for use when required, and compliant with all applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities: As a Technical Manager, you will provide technical oversight, guidance, and support to yacht managers for a designated fleet of vessels. Your responsibilities will include:

• Technical management according to the provisions of the Yacht Management Agreement.
• Ensuring machinery and engineering systems comply with the Company’s Safety Management System and the ISM Code (where applicable).
• Reviewing monthly maintenance reports and following up as needed.
• Assessing defect reports and providing guidance for rectification, including Flag or Class notification requirements.
• Conducting periodic yacht visits, preparing technical inspection reports, and following up on identified issues.
• Developing a long-term (5-year) plan for major works on each yacht.
• Assisting with the initial assessment of potential insurance claims, including investigation and evaluation of damage.
• Supporting routine dry dockings and maintenance periods by:
• Maintaining professional knowledge through self-directed learning and continuing professional development (CPD).

Requirements for the role:

• Second Engineer, STCW III/2 (Unlimited).
• Chief Engineer, STCW III/2 (Y1).
• STCW Electro-Technical Officer Certificate of Competency.
• Seagoing experience as a Chief Engineer on large yachts or as First Engineer on cruise ships.
• Fluency in spoken and written English.
• Ability to travel worldwide on short notice.
• Must reside within a maximum 1.5 hours commuting distance from Palm Beach

We are looking for a Sole Chef with a fine dining/Michelin background to join a 20m new build private/charter yacht. 

-This is a permanent role onboard, the vessel is single season with their busy periods being between October and August. It was launched towards the start of the year and is going into it’s first year of cruising. 

-You will be required to cook for both the crew of 3 as well as the guests who are massive foodies! When it comes to their preferences, they like fine dining so having a Michelin/high-end restaurant background would ideally be required. 

-The owners enjoy a variety of things when it comes to food, with the vessel also being a charter – we are looking for someone who has a broad cuisine knowledge. 

-Whilst your focus will mainly be on cooking, you may be required to lend a hand in other areas from time to time – for example, setting the table etc. This said, housekeeping and most service will mainly be done by the Deck/Stew. 

-The vessel will be cruising around St Vincent and Grenadines. The owners are really keen to push the charter side of things and already have bookings for this winter. 

-The salary on offer is depending on experience but is extremely competitive for this size of vessel. The owners want a top Chef and so they are happy to invest in their team!

– The leave will be 60 days.

-Brand new galley space that is open, with all new equipment and a healthy budget to get additional things if needed. 

-Ideally you will start in the next few months – they were looking at an October start date but they’re also happy to bring someone on sooner for the right candidate. 

-You must hold your B1B2 and Schengen visas in hand.

Are you ready for an extraordinary career opportunity in one of the world’s most idyllic locations? We are seeking a dedicated Villa Co-Manager to join our team at an exclusive waterfront estate in French Polynesia. This stunning property features 10 self-contained bedrooms, a pool, tennis court, volleyball court, salon, spa, and much more!

About the Estate:

• Principal Use: The villa is used by the principal for relaxation three times a year, each visit lasting one month. The property is not used for parties.
• Rental: The estate is rented to private clients 3-4 times a year with bookings made well in advance.
• Developments: Currently, a theatre and recording studio are under construction.
• Staffing: Approximately 11 staff members when guests are in residence, including chefs, housekeepers, gardeners, an assistant manager, and an activities manager. The team reduces to 8 staff when the estate is not occupied.

Role Overview:

As a Villa Co-Manager, you will work alongside an experienced local Co-Manager who is enthusiastic about welcoming additional support. Your primary responsibility will be overseeing the estate’s day-to-day operations, including planned maintenance and contractor coordination.

Key Responsibilities:

• Estate Management: Ensure the smooth running of the estate, focusing on planned maintenance.
• Contractor Coordination: Work with existing contractors for services including generators, electrical systems, HVAC, air conditioning, AVIT, pool maintenance, salon upkeep, and kitchen management.
• Maintenance: Provide first-fix options when possible. No dedicated maintenance staff are employed.
• Communication: Handle daily calls and weekly emails with the Principal to report on estate conditions and address any issues.

Requirements:

• Technical Background: Proven experience in a technical role within a superyacht or private estate setting.

This is a seasonal position for the summer (most likely ending in October) with the potential to be permanent for the right candidate.  

-You will be required to cook onboard the yacht for the summer months as well as potentially in the owner's home as they live by and could be offered to cook at the owners residences during the winter months too, if desired. This said, it can be a seasonal position only. 

-Experienced yacht owner who uses the yacht for himself and his family over the summer months. 

-The yacht operates with 4 crew in total. Captain, Deckhand/Engineer, Chef & Stew. The Deckhand/Engineer is currently on the yacht and this will be his 3rd season with the program. You will be sharing a cabin with the Stew. 

-The owners enjoy fresh, healthy Med style cuisine. They enjoy simpler styles of food so are by no means expecting Michelin star meals! They tend to eat healthy salads, pastas, grains and proteins. The crew food should reflect this also. 

-The owner has been using the vessel fairly frequently as it has been moored near their home, with a least a little day trip down to the vessel most days.

-The salary on offer is €5,000 -/+ depending on experience.

Responsible for translating the requirements created by functional analysts into the architecture for that solution and describing it through the set of architecture and design documents. Those documents are then used by the rest of the development team to implement the solution. The process of defining architecture by the Solutions Architect often involves selection of the most appropriate technology for the problem being solved, impact assessment as well as technical and operational feasibility. The Strategy & Planning team is focused on strategy formulation and prioritization, strategic and operational planning, program management, and vendor management efforts while building next-gen Total Cost of Ownership capabilities.  

The Agile Scrum Master role reports to the Director, Agile / Ways of Working COE, PMO.  

As a Scrum Master at McDonald’s, you will be responsible for the daily operations of an agile squad, facilitating the work of the squad and scrum ceremonies, and ensuring the team is fully functional and productive. You will help the squad self-organize, focus on outcomes, and get work to a finished state. The Scrum Master is an Agile expert and helps the team and the organization at large understand what Scrum/Agile is and creates an environment that fosters high performing teams. 

Accountabilities & Responsibilities   

• Ensure Scrum ceremonies (e.g., stand ups, sprint planning, sprint retrospectives, etc.) are executed properly, driving team to develop and deploy faster. 
• Champion Agile CoE standards and processes within the team, being a front-line change agent. 
• Support Agile Coach in educating the team, executing Agile best practices, promoting self-organization, and driving toward high-functioning teams. 
• Eliminates blockers and external interferences to development progress. 
• Helps Product Manager maintain the product backlog and holds team accountable to defining stories at the right level. 
• Supports Product Manager in defining Definition of Done (DoD) for the product.  
• Reports to the Product Manager and owns reporting and communication of scrum progress. 
• Participates in scrum of scrums with other teams as needed. 
• Addresses issues with their process and holds the squad to quality. 
• Captures key squad metrics and supports team improvement. 
• Maintains and cleans up JIRA in alignment with best practices. 

Basic Qualifications  

• 5+ years’ experience in mentoring and guiding Agile teams. 
• Deep understanding of the Scrum framework, with a demonstrated history of mentoring high performing teams. 
• Deep understanding Agile software delivery, the path to production and other operational aspects. 
• Experience with Agile toolsets (e.g., Jira, Confluence, etc.) 
• Exceptional communications and stakeholder management skills and strong Emotional Intelligence to read verbal and nonverbal cues in others so you can communicate effectively and cultivate healthy working relationships. 
• Posses one or more Scrum certifications (CSM, PSM) 
• Willingness and ability to live the McDonald’s values every day: Serve, Inclusion, Integrity, Community, and Family. 

Preferred Qualifications  

• Significant work experience playing an active role in Agile transformations. 
• Demonstrated experience of coaching organization on Agile best practices 
• Proficiency in change management techniques to facilitate cultural and organizational shifts.  
• Previous experience in leading or contributing to an Agile Center of Excellence. 
• Knowledge across several Agile frameworks including, Lean, Agile-Scrum, Kanban, Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), Extreme Programing (XP). 
• Experience working in a Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) industry.

Minister Boissonnault reducing the number of temporary foreign workers in Canada

The Temporary Foreign Worker (TFW) Program is designed as an extraordinary measure to be used only when qualified Canadians and permanent residents are not able to fill job vacancies.

Unfortunately, the TFW Program has been used to circumvent hiring talented workers in Canada. That is why, earlier this month, Minister Boissonnault brought together business organizations to inform them that the Government of Canada was considering reductions in access to the Program, as well as strengthened compliance measures.

Given current labour market conditions, and to further reduce the reliance of Canadian employers on the Program, Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, announced today that the Government is taking further action to weed out TFW Program misuse and fraud.

In response to the current employment environment, the following changes will be implemented, effective by September 26, 2024:

• The Government of Canada will refuse to process Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) in the Low-Wage stream, applicable in census metropolitan areas with an unemployment rate of 6% or higher. Exceptions will be granted for seasonal and non-seasonal jobs in food security sectors (primary agriculture, food processing and fish processing), as well as construction and healthcare;
• Employers will be allowed to hire no more than 10% of their total workforce through the TFW Program. This maximum employment percentage will be applied to the Low-Wage stream and is a further reduction from the March 2024 reduction. Exceptions will be granted for seasonal and non-seasonal jobs in food security sectors (primary agriculture, food processing and fish processing), as well as healthcare and construction; and
• The maximum duration of employment for workers hired through the Low-Wage stream will be reduced to one year (from two years).

Employers in Canada have a responsibility to invest in the full range of workers available in this country, such as young people, newcomers, and persons with disabilities, who are too often an untapped economic resource in Canada. They must also invest in retraining or upskilling to ensure that those they currently employ can adapt to the economy of the future. The Government of Canada will continue to work with business and organizations to help them find the workers they need and ensure that Canadian workers have the opportunities they deserve, by providing supports for training and education.

The Government of Canada will continue to monitor labour market conditions and introduce further adjustments to the Program as needed in the coming months to ensure that only employers with demonstrable labour market needs have access to the Program. Within the next 90 days, further review will be undertaken of the Program, which could result in changes to the High-Wage Stream, to existing LMIA applications for which positions have not been filled, to sectoral exceptions, or refusing to process other LMIA applications, including for rural areas.

Quick facts

According to the latest data from the Labour Force Survey, the overall unemployment rate has increased to 6.4% following two consecutive monthly increases in May and June. Canada’s unemployment rate increased 0.2 percentage points to 6.4% in June 2024. The unemployment rate trended up since April 2023, rising 1.3 percentage points over the period. In June 2024, there were 1.4 million unemployed people, an increase of 42,000 (+3.1%) from the previous month. 

As the labour market has loosened, the Government of Canada began rolling back the pandemic measures aimed at addressing an extraordinary labour shortage. Beginning in October 2023, those adjustments have included gradual reductions to the validity period of Labour Market Impact Assessments (LMIAs) from 18 months to 6 months, as well as to the cap on percentage of temporary foreign workers from 30% to 20%, both necessary steps toward bringing the program back to pre-pandemic levels. 

On August 20, 2024, the Government of Canada announced the approval of a proposal by the Government of Quebec for a temporary freeze on the approval of new Temporary Foreign Workers in the low-wage stream in Montreal. Effective September 3rd, 2024, processing of Labour Market Impact Assessment applications will be discontinued for six months for job offers located in the Montreal region with wages below $27.47/hour, which is the current Quebec median hourly wage.
