Etobicoke Yacht Club

Nestled along the serene shores of Humber Bay, the Etobicoke Yacht Club (EYC) stands as a testament to a thriving maritime community that has been fostering the love of sailing for decades. Established with a vision to bring the joy of sailing to people of all ages, the EYC has become a beacon of maritime excitement in the heart of Toronto.

Welcome to the Etobicoke Yacht Club

Founded in 1968, the EYC has been a hub for sailing enthusiasts, beginners, and seasoned sailors alike. With a mission to provide a welcoming and inclusive space for all, the club has created a close-knit community that shares a deep passion for the open waters. The picturesque location of the club, situated near the tranquil waters of Lake Ontario, offers an ideal setting for sailing adventures.

EYC

The EYC takes pride in its Junior Sail Program (JSP), a not-for-profit initiative that was launched in 2000. This program has played a pivotal role in introducing young minds to the art of sailing, nurturing a love for the sea, and teaching essential skills to navigate the waters. The JSP provides a comprehensive curriculum led by nationally certified instructors who are not only skilled sailors but also dedicated mentors.

Beyond its youth programs, the EYC hosts a myriad of sailing events and regattas that draw enthusiasts from near and far. From club races to championship competitions, the club’s calendar is brimming with opportunities for sailors of all levels to hone their skills, connect with fellow sailors, and experience the thrill of competitive sailing.

Etobicoke Yacht Club

The EYC also serves as a social hub for members to connect, share stories, and build lasting friendships. The club’s vibrant social events, from awards nights to fundraisers, create an atmosphere of camaraderie that extends beyond the waters.

As a cornerstone of Toronto’s sailing community , the Etobicoke Yacht Club continues to inspire generations of sailors to embrace the open sea, learn the ropes of sailing, and explore the endless horizons of maritime adventure. With its rich history, welcoming spirit, and commitment to fostering a love for sailing, the EYC remains a treasured institution on the waterfront.

Etobicoke Yacht Club, situated in beautiful Humber Bay Park West, started as the Etobicoke Power and Sail Club (EP&SC) in 1966 with the commitment to create a better experience for boaters. Over 50 years later, that commitment continues. In 1977, the club relocated from the mouth of Etobicoke Creek at Marie Curtis Park to Humber Bay Park West. Humber Bay Park East / West had been created from tonnes of landfill excavated from the massive Toronto Eaton Centre development, with the West park design including a sheltered harbour for EP&SC and Mimico Cruising Club.

The new docks arrived in 1979 and in 1980 the club was renamed Etobicoke Yacht Club, complete with a striking new burgee. The first mast crane was erected in 1981 and 1982/83 saw the club transform dramatically thru an impressive member-driven landscaping program where topsoil, grass and trees were planted. Power and water were installed on the main docks, a cement launch ramp was poured and a new 2-tonne crane was installed. The clubhouse construction began in 1984 and was opened in 1985. A “friendship gate” between EYC and Mimico Cruising Club was installed to much fanfare and still stands today as a testament to our great relationship.

By the second half of the 1980s, the hard physical work of club building was bearing fruit. The clubhouse was bustling with member activities; EYC’s harbour had grown to accommodate 300 boats, many of them larger than what the founding members could ever have dreamed of. The club, noted Commodore Rick Bryant in 1986, was entering its “maturing phase.” Today, EYC continues to evolve with ongoing investment in docks, facilities and services delivering on that 1966 commitment to create a better experience for boaters.

*Members of EYC receive a beautifully written book illustrating the full history of the club with interesting facts and photos.
