Jeff Bezos’ New Yacht Is Finally Ready to Set Sail

Amazon’s founder has been spotted on Koru, a massive schooner with a design that evokes the golden age of sailing in the early 20th century.

Koru, a very large sailboat with three masts and a dark navy hull, sails on a calm blue sea.

By Kevin Koenig

Just in time for the high season of yachting in the Mediterranean, when multimillion-dollar megayachts descend on ports like Monte Carlo and St. Tropez, Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, has been photographed with his partner Lauren Sánchez on his new boat, Koru, off the coast of Spain.

Mr. Bezos’ vessel is a sailing yacht, a departure from the diesel-powered, floating palaces popular with other billionaires. But it is still massive. At 417 feet, Koru is the world’s largest sailing yacht, according to Boat International , and it cost an estimated $500 million to build, Bloomberg reported . (Parsifal III, the boat featured on Bravo’s reality series “Below Deck Sailing Yacht,” is 177 feet long — less than half the length of Koru — and cost $18 million , according to the website SuperYachtFan.)

A spokesperson for Mr. Bezos did not comment for this article; neither did Oceanco, Koru’s builder. Here is what to know about the boat.

For traditionalists, Koru is refreshing. At a time when yacht design skews outrageous — see the lizardlike, 262-foot Artefact or the otherworldly 463-foot Yas — Koru stands out as a schooner, a sailing vessel with two or more masts. Photos reveal a large sailboat with three masts, an on-deck pool and a voluptuous mermaid on the bow, that bears a resemblance to Ms. Sánchez. But otherwise, the sleek, classic lines suggest the patrician age of yachting in the early 20th century, said Robert B. MacKay, author of “The Golden Age of Newport Yachting: Between the Wars.”

“With the clipper bow and the dark hull and the masts,” Mr. MacKay said, referring to Koru’s concave, pointy forward section, “it reminds me of a boat built in 1930 for J.P. Morgan Jr., Corsair IV. It is almost like a reincarnation. It’s certainly at odds with the stuff the oligarchs are building — those look like bloated Clorox bottles.”

Compared with the world’s very largest motor yachts — built for sheer size and the accompanying bragging rights — Koru could almost be considered quaint. Azzam, one of the world’s largest motor yachts, is nearly 200 feet longer.

The Experience

Koru will be propelled primarily by the wind. “Sailboats are usually greener than most powerboats,” said Don Anderson, a former captain of M5 , the world’s largest single-masted sailboat, at 256 feet. “I’d like to think that Koru will be one of the most ecological yachts out there, with its sails and also with the technology that will be aboard.”

“When you’re on a sailboat, you’re more in touch with the wind and the waves than on a powerboat,” he continued. “You’re more susceptible to the elements, too. But you can leave California, and once you get past the Catalinas you can basically surf downwind all the way to Hawaii. All you need to do is run with the waves.”

Mr. Bezos has been a guest on similar boats, according to Bloomberg: In 2019, he was spotted on Eos , a 305-foot sailing yacht owned by Barry Diller and Diane von Furstenberg.

Bill Tripp, a Connecticut-based naval architect, said the appeal of this type of boat is clear: “When you are on a powerboat, you ask, ‘Are we there yet?’ and on a sailboat, you’re enjoying the ride and the ocean so much that you don’t ask that question.”

Koru will be trailed by Abeona, a 246-foot support vessel. Superyachts often have support vessels following along behind them. These “shadows,” as they are colloquially known, are for the “toys” — the ATVs, supercars, seaplanes, motorcycles, smaller boats, scuba gear, personal submarines and even helicopters that pleasure boaters might bring on a trip. According to its builder, this model of boat can carry these gadgets along with dozens of crew members. (Ms. Sanchez flies helicopters, and the couple was recently photographed taking a helicopter to board Abeona and then Koru.)

Abeona, a motor yacht, will have enough range to follow Koru from the Mediterranean to the Caribbean — a common course for yachts — on a single tank of gas.

The Kerfuffle

Koru set off a controversy last year — before it was even completed — in a face-off with the Dutch city of Rotterdam. The boat was built at Oceanco’s facility in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands, and needed to pass the historic Koningshaven Bridge, known as “De Hef,” in Rotterdam, to undergo testing in the North Sea.

When the city announced it would dismantle the bridge to allow the boat and its mainmast — an estimated 230 feet tall — to pass through unscathed, locals were angry. They planned a protest to throw eggs at the yacht as it cruised by. In the end, the bridge was not taken apart, and the yacht was towed to a different location to have its masts attached.

Koru is Maori for “coil” or “loop” and refers to the unfurling of a fern frond. The koru design is common in traditional Maori art, where it symbolizes new life, growth and peace. Mr. Bezos included a photo of a koru frond in an Instagram post on Jan. 1, 2022.

Brad Stone, who was the first to report on Koru, in his 2021 book “Amazon Unbound: Jeff Bezos and the Invention of a Global Empire,” said the name was “consistent with where we see him today.”

“He is no longer this single-minded tech guy,” Mr. Stone said. “He’s in media and Hollywood and has a new relationship.”

The best pictures of Koru

In 2022, the 125.8-metre sailing yacht Koru made history when she hit the water at Oceanco ’s Alblasserdam facilities. Now successfully delivered, she is the flagship of the Oceanco fleet and the largest Dutch-built yacht in the world.

BOAT rounds up the best pictures of the three-masted sailing yacht owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos...

Koru unable to dock in Florida

Koru arrived at Port Everglades, Florida in November 2023 following a months-long Mediterranean cruise that included stopovers in Dubrovnik, Saint-Cyr-sur-Mer and Calabria (according to BOATPro ). The sailing yacht was too large to anchor in the nearby marina, which has a maximum capacity of 121.9 metres. She was photographed instead docking next to a 297-metre cruise ship named Rhapsody of the Seas .

Koru's helicopter landing

Last summer, Koru was spotted in the French Riveria alongside her 75-metre support vessel Abeona . Delivered by Damen Yachting two months before the mothership, Abeona is equipped with a helipad and hangar for a D14 value helicopter– which is clearly being put to good use. Accommodation is for up to 45 people onboard Bezos' support vessel, including crew, guests and other specialist staff.

Koru in Portofino

Koru and Abeona also travelled to Portofino in the summer of 2023, with both Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez sighted enjoying lunch and taking photographs while on board.

Koru's figurehead

Throughout construction, it was difficult to get a glimpse of the details on board Koru ; but once handed over, all of her traditional features could be admired up close. As well as the intricate gold paintwork and scarlet bootstripe, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood. The woman is wearing a necklace with a symbol in the pendant, which some have speculated could be the Māori symbol meaning "koru".

Koru in front of Palma Cathedral

After delivery, the schooner spent some time enjoying the waters of Mallorca. The Balearic hotspot is a magnet for superyachts during the Mediterranean season, but Koru had the quiet anchorage largely to herself after leaving the Oceanco shipyard. Her classic lines could be appreciated in all of their glory against the backdrop of Palma Cathedral.

Koru delivered to Mallorca

In April 2023. Koru was delivered and undertook her maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar. She then headed onwards to Palma, giving the world a first glimpse of her cascading aft decks, mighty masts and elaborate aft deck pool arrangement. She was flying solo in Mallorca, but was later joined by support vessel Abeona .

Koru in Gibraltar

Following her successful sea trials in Rotterdam, Koru embarked on journey to Palma, Mallorca that involved an overnight anchorage in Gibraltar. The sailing yacht was sighted passing through the Strait of Gibraltar a second time on her cross-continental journey from the Mediterranean to the USA in November 2023.

Koru on sea trials

Koru was spotted departing from Rotterdam in the early morning light of February 13 to begin sea trials. The 125.8-metre Oceanco set sail across the North Sea to put her performance to the test after hitting the water for the first time in August 2022. The traditional three-masted schooner yacht has a midnight blue hull, traditional canoe stern and the unique addition of a chair at the very tip of the bowsprit. Her name represents the idea of life’s perpetual movement and is a Māori word closely related to that of an unfurling leaf.

Koru with her masts stepped

The yacht was seen for the first time in her final form on the dock in the Port of Rotterdam. Her trio of masts was stepped here to avoid having to dismantle any bridges to allow the Oceanco giant yacht to pass under. The maximum height of the bridge is 70 metres; the masts on Koru are thought to measure between 65 and 85 metres. The first images of Koru indicate the yacht will have plenty of features for her owner to enjoy, including an aft deck pool and a large, uncluttered sundeck.

Koru launched

The 125.8-metre yacht was moved from Oceanco’s primary facilities at the crack of dawn to enter the final stages of construction. The hull was transported via Dordrecht and Spijkenisse (Oude Maas), and her masts were transported separately via the slightly shorter Rotterdam Centre (Nieuwe Maas).

Koru moves through the Dutch canals

Before she hit the water, the hull of Koru was loaded onto a transport vessel and she made the journey through the Dutch canals for further construction work. The yacht was captured against the backdrop of the quaint Dutch countryside, revealing her classic-looking lines and long rows of windows.

Koru from a bird's eye view

As she was wheeled out of the shed into the light of day, yacht-spotters were able to get their first proper aerial shot of the yacht, without her masts.

Koru rolls out of the shed

When Oceanco completed the work on the hull, the yacht was rolled out of the shed to reveal a crisp navy hull and white superstructure. Koru ’s exterior design immediately drew a comparison to Lürssen’s 93-metre sailing yacht Eos , which was designed by US-based Langan Design . This was the world’s first sighting of the already iconic superyacht.

Oceanco Koru Superyacht

Reports from earlier this month suggested that Jeff Bezos was finally getting his hands on his new $500 million superyacht . But it seems the Amazon founder is going to have to wait just a little bit longer for his new toy.

During sea trials , a ship is tested to ensure that everything is working as it should be. Depending on what happens during this go-round, Koru could be sent back to the shipyard for final adjustments before making its way to Bezos, a person familiar with the boat’s travels told Bloomberg, requesting anonymity to discuss private matters. (An Amazon spokesperson didn’t respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.)

As yacht fans surely know already, Koru is a pretty big deal in the maritime world: It’s currently the largest sailing yacht afloat, and one of the biggest ever built by the Netherlands-based Oceanco . On board, among other amenities, you’ll find a large pool and more than a few outdoor lounges. One feature that’s missing, though? A helipad. Because the sails of the ship are so large (they’re the same height as the Great Pyramid of Giza, for some perspective), there wasn’t room for landing a helicopter. As such, Bezos has commissioned a support boat for the task. That vessel is currently crossing the Atlantic and heading for Gibraltar, according to tracking data cited by Bloomberg.

Koru ’s size has created more than one headache for Bezos so far. Along with the helipad issue, the boat was going to cause a historic steel bridge in Rotterdam to be dismantled . The city initially acquiesced to Oceanco’s request, but there was enough public outrage over the demand that the shipbuilder ended up retracting its ask. Instead, Koru was pulled out to sea without its massive masts.

Jeff Bezos Yacht Koru, The Largest Sailing Yacht

Jeff Bezos' World's Largest Sailing Yacht: Koru

Jeff Bezos Yacht Koru A Controversial Start and a Symbolic Name

Jeff Bezos, the billionaire behind Amazon, is set to become the owner of the world's largest sailing vessel, S/Y Koru. The yacht, which measures 417 feet long, is currently undergoing open-seas testing before being delivered to its owner. The vessel has had a controversial start to its life, with a petition to dismantle a historic bridge in Rotterdam causing anger among the Dutch people. However, the boat was eventually moved to a different shipyard, and now it is almost ready to sail. In this editorial, we will look at S/Y Koru's design, its controversial start, and what the future holds for this massive sailing yacht.

The Largest Sailing Vessel in the World

Once S/Y Koru is delivered to Jeff Bezos, it will become the largest sailing vessel in the world. The yacht's sheer size is impressive, but its sailing capabilities are just as noteworthy. S/Y Koru has a hybrid propulsion system, which allows it to sail using wind power or a diesel engine. Crafted from cutting-edge materials, the yacht's sails are built to endure various weather conditions while delivering peak performance.

S/Y Koru's massive size and advanced technology come with a hefty price tag. It's been reported that constructing the yacht amounted to roughly $500 million, positioning it as one of the priciest vessels in existence. However, for Jeff Bezos, this is a drop in the bucket. The billionaire has a net worth of over $100 billion, making him one of the richest people in the world.

Symbolism and Design

The Jeff Bezos' Yacht Koru, which is not just a massive sailing yacht, but also a symbol of perpetual movement and the cycle of life, has a name inspired by the Māori symbol of the same name. The koru symbolizes the spiral of an unfurling fern frond and embodies the concept of how life both changes and remains constant, according to the New Zealand government's definition. Representing perpetual motion, the Koru's circular form with its inward coil signifies a return to the starting point.

The yacht's design is just as impressive as its symbolism. S/Y Koru was built by Oceanco, a Dutch yacht builder known for its high-end luxury vessels. The yacht has a sleek, modern design, with clean lines and a metallic grey finish. It features three masts and can accommodate up to 36 guests and 56 crew members. The yacht's interior is just as impressive, with a spa, gym, and even a climbing wall.

The Koru is not just a yacht; it's a statement. Its sheer size, advanced technology, and sleek design make it a testament to human innovation and engineering. It's the largest sailing vessel in the world, and it's a marvel to behold.

A Controversial Start

S/Y Koru's development process was not without controversy. In 2017, Oceanco petitioned the Rotterdam government to dismantle the Koningshavenbrug bridge so that the yacht could be moved to open water. The bridge, known locally as De Hef, is a symbol of local resistance against the invading forces during World War II. It was heavily damaged by Nazi shelling but managed to survive, becoming a testament to the city's resilience.

The Rotterdam city council refused the petition, causing anger among the Dutch people. Nearly 3,000 people signed up for a protest that involved throwing eggs at the yacht as it passed through town. However, the boat was eventually moved to a different shipyard without its masts early in the morning, avoiding any further controversy.

Top reasons why the Koru is a unique and impressive vessel:

Symbolic Design: The circular shape of the Koru represents perpetual motion, with its inward coil symbolizing a return to the starting point.

Cutting-Edge Materials: The yacht's sails are made from high-tech materials, designed to endure various weather conditions while delivering peak performance.

Advanced Technology: The Koru has a hybrid propulsion system, which allows it to sail using wind power or a diesel engine.

Impressive Size: Once delivered to Jeff Bezos, the Koru will become the largest sailing vessel in the world.

Luxurious Interior: The yacht can accommodate up to 36 guests and 56 crew members, with a spa, gym, and even a climbing wall.

Controversial Start: The yacht's development process was not without controversy, with a petition to dismantle a historic bridge in Rotterdam causing anger among the Dutch people.

Statement Piece: The Koru is not just a yacht; it's a statement. Its sheer size, advanced technology, and sleek design make it a testament to human innovation and engineering.

Jeff Bezos Yacht Koru is an impressive vessel, both in its size and design. The yacht's symbolism and modern features make it a unique addition to the luxury sailing world. While it may have had a controversial start, S/Y Koru is now ready to sail the open seas and embark on new adventures. Only time will tell what Jeff Bezos has planned for this magnificent yacht, but one thing is for sure - it will undoubtedly turn heads and be the envy of seafarers worldwide. S/Y Koru's advanced technology, sleek design, and exceptional performance make it a stunning feat of engineering and a true masterpiece on the water.

Jeff Bezos' $500 million megayacht sets sail for its first sea trials — watch video of the 417-foot vessel hitting open water

  • Jeff Bezos' new $500 million megayacht hit the open water this week to undergo tests.
  • Sea trials are usually one of the last phases of construction, bringing the yacht one step closer to full sail.
  • The yacht previously caused uproar for nearly requiring that a historic bridge be dismantled for it to pass.

Insider Today

After drawing the ire of locals for nearly requiring the dismantling of a historic bridge, Jeff Bezos' new megayacht has hit the open water.

The vessel, estimated to cost $500 million, underwent its first day of sea trials in Europe this week, according to yacht fan club Dutch Yachting, which posted a video of the yacht on Monday. Sea trials consist of several tests and are usually one of the last phases of construction, meaning the Amazon founder's yacht is one step closer to full sail.

The boat's sea trials come after a turbulent year for the megayacht, which was built in the Netherlands. Last year, the Dutch company building it, Oceanco, requested that a historic bridge in Rotterdam be dismantled for the yacht to pass because the vessel's three masts were too tall to pass under the bridge, which has a 131-foot clearance.

The yacht, called Koru, measures 417 feet long and is expected to be the biggest sailing yacht in the world once finished.

The bridge in question was the Koningshaven Bridge, colloquially known as "De Hef," which is nearly 100 years old. After it was renovated in 2017, the city vowed not to take it apart again, according to Dutch broadcaster Rijnmond .

The ask didn't go over well. It caused so much public outcry, in fact, that more than 1,000 residents threatened to throw eggs at the yacht if the dismantling came to fruition. Oceanco later withdrew its request to dismantle the bridge , and the yacht was quietly towed under cover of night to another shipyard.

Related stories

During that voyage, the yacht was towed without its masts, which would be installed later, and it avoided going through the city center and past the Koningshaven Bridge, according to German magazine Der Spiegel .

An Inside Look at Jeff Bezos’ $500 Million Superyacht and What It Costs To Keep It Afloat

C liché but true, the second-richest man on the planet, according to Forbes , owns the tallest sailing yacht in the world . In fact, the 417-foot Koru is so big, it has its own 250-foot support vessel .

Priced at $500 million, the Koru hit the sea for the first time in 2023 and has since ferried Jeff Bezos and company around the globe. Complete with three massive 229-foot masts, it can reach a top speed under sail of 20 knots, according to the New York Post — which is approximately 23 miles per hour.

Made for a group, up to 18 guests can set sail on the yacht, allowing Bezos to bring family and friends on vacation with him. Here’s a look at the Koru’s extravagant features and how much it costs to operate his floating mansion.

Also take a look at Bezos’ mansion collection.

Key Features

As expected Bezos’ yacht is dripping with luxury. With a net worth of $203.8 billion — as of May 4, 2024, according to Forbes — he can afford to outfit the Koru with nothing but the best and he did just that.

The superyacht has three outdoor decks, with two containing swimming pools, according to the New York Post. It also features a cinema, several lounges and multiple business areas, according to Luxuo .

Highly personalized, the yacht is complete with a figurehead modeled after Bezos’ fiancée Lauren Sanchez. Even its masts are luxurious, as the Amazon founder chose in-boom furlers, which keep the canvases at the bottom of the mast above the deck, creating a pristine and spacious rope-free deck.

For You: Make Yourself Money Smart: 20 ChatGPT Prompts To Increase Your Wealth

Support Vessel

One of the most shocking features of the Koru is the fact that it requires its own support vessel. The $75 million Abeona features a helipad that Sanchez has been spotted using to park her personal helicopter, according to the New York Post.

Designed to carry extra gear, four jet skis, two fast launches and a dinghy were spotted on the Abeona during a 2023 trip to Mallorca, Spain, according to the New York Post. It’s also capable of lifting a small submarine, but Bezos isn’t believed to own one — at least not yet.

Additionally, the support ship has two extra staterooms, which can accommodate four guests. This could come in handy if Bezos wants to entertain a larger group than can fit on the Koru.

On-Board Crew

It probably isn’t a surprise that operating both the Koru and the Abeona is no small task. From staff to drive the boats and maintain them to caring for guests onboard, Bezos needs a small army at sea.

The Koru has a crew of up to 36 people, according to The New York Post. If you think that’s a lot, the Abeona requires up to 45 crew and support staff.

Annual Operating Costs

Purchasing the Koru and Abeona cost Bezos more than half a billion dollars, but his expenses didn’t end there. As you might imagine, the annual cost to maintain a superyacht and its own enormous supporting yacht is more than most people earn in a lifetime.

The Koru costs approximately $25 million in operating expenses per year, according to the Daily Mail . Much less, but still sky-high, Bezos spends around $5 to $10 million on annual maintenance costs for the Abeona, according to Super Yacht Fan ).

When their owners are on dry land, yachts have to find a parking space. However, even this doesn’t always come cheap for Bezos and the Koru.

In November 2023, the billionaire’s yacht arrived in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, but was too big to fit in the port with all the outer superyachts, according to the Daily Mail. Therefore, it had to be docked with cruise ships at Port Everglades, at a rate of $16,500 per week.

While one week of storage might be more than the average person can afford, picking up the tab for any number of weeks would clearly be no issue for Bezos. While his superyacht and the many expenses surrounding it are clearly astronomical, he’s still living well within his budget.

Koru , the record-breaking 127m sailing yacht built for Amazon founder Jeff Bezos , 59, has arrived in the United States for the first time.

Photos circulating online show the $500m titan moored in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. But the yacht is so large that it is being kept alongside cruise ships and oil tankers at a busy seaport, rather than with other superyachts, as Florida’s marinas typically cannot accommodate a yacht of this size.

One nearby marina told the Daily Mail it “might be doable” but warned that Koru ‘s 17m beam and 4.2m draft would make it a huge challenge.

The extravagant three-masted Oceanco schooner was snapped docked at Port Everglades, next to the Liberty of the Seas cruise ship. Meanwhile, Abeona — the ship’s dedicated support vessel — is docked at Dania Beach 6km away. The 75-metre Abeona , built by Damen Yachting, comes complete with a helipad and an array of water toys.

It’s understood that Koru — named after the Maori word for ‘new beginnings ‘ — arrived in Florida late last Wednesday evening after departing from Gibraltar two weeks prior.

Tycoon Bezos and his fiancee Lauren Sanchez have been cruising the Med in recent months, including stops in Sardinia, the Italian town of Portofino, and several stops around Croatia.

Media outlets noted that Koru ‘s AIS tracker had been switched off for an extended period throughout the summer, potentially a bid by Bezos to avoid attention.

Jeff Bezos' Koru sailing yacht has finally arrived in the US, and it's so enormous that it did not fit next to other superyachts at the Port of Everglades. The $500 million vessel was finally docked next to gigantic oil tankers at the South Florida seaport https://t.co/WBccQLq4LR — Nancy Dahlberg (@ndahlberg) November 27, 2023

However, attempts at hiding the goliath — which has estimated running costs of $25m per year — do not seem to have worked.

Amazon boss Bezos — the third richest person in the world with a $170bn fortune – is not currently on board but is expected to use the vessel over the holidays. Bezos has recently confirmed a move from Seattle to the Miami area in Florida, near where his parents live and where his space firm Blue Origin is based.

The design for 3,300GT  Koru  is based on  Black Pearl , built in 2018 and the largest DynaRig sailing yacht in the world.

The steel and aluminium superyacht Koru underwent sea trials in the North Sea in February this year. A video captured by  Dutch Yachting  shows the vessel being towed out of Rotterdam before cruising on calm waters in the misty morning air.

The yacht was eventually delivered in April, when it made its maiden voyage from the Netherlands to Gibraltar.

Oceanco  had remained tight-lipped about  Koru  while it was under construction, but never denied that Bezos was the vessel’s owner, sending superyacht spotters into a frenzy when the  vessel emerged from the sheds in 2022  under the cover of darkness.

$500M, thats about $750M to us tax payers!

Not sure how he gets away with operating a vessel that size with no AIS active.

  • Additional power source from kinetic energy generated by the sails
  • Large swimming pool main deck aft
  • Wealth of toys and accessories
  • 75m (247ft) support vessel ABEONA
  • Innovative kinetic energy recovery system to covert wave-induced motion for sustainable cruising
Sailing yacht KORU offers the last word in innovative design coupled with a wealth of luxurious amenities for the very best sailing experience for her guests.

The 127m (416'8") Oceanco sailing yacht KORU (previously known as Y721) represents one of the largest sailing yachts in the world, with an impressive internal volume of 3,300 GT and wealth of luxurious accommodation and amenities.

Commissioned by entrepreneur and Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, the 3-masted schooner KORU, known throughout the build as Project Y721 replaces Oceanco’s BLACK PEARL  for second place in the world's largest sailing yacht rankings behind Nobiskrug's 143m (469ft)  sailing yacht A , and operates under the Cayman Islands' flag.

Exterior Design

Reportedly taking its design cues from the 93-meter Lurssen sail yacht EOS, the yacht features a midnight-blue hull with an elongated bowsprit and traditional canoe stern, with classic lines reminiscent of some of the finest schooners in the world. As expected from a tech entrepreneur, known for pushing boundaries and driving innovation, sailing yacht KORU is trialing a prototype for a new kinetic energy recovery system. This is based on a conversion of wave induced motion, heave, pitch and roll into electric energy, with initial tests showing early promise. With a nod to her green credentials, this will provide an additional power source for the yacht allowing for more enhanced sustainable cruising.

Interior Design

Oceanco's newest yacht is understood to have an internal volume of 3,300 GT and will undoubtedly offer a wealth of luxurious accommodation and amenities. Sailing yacht KORU benefits from full-length windows across her superstructure allowing plenty of light to infuse her elegant interiors.

Guest Accommodation

With her wide beam the 127-meter sailing yacht KORU offers generous accommodation for her guests, equipped with the finest linens and state-of-the-art technology.

Onboard Comfort & Entertainment

Sailing yacht KORU is served by the 75-meter (247ft) Damen support vessel ABEONA  (ex-Wingman). This yacht will be equipped with KORU's larger toys, rumored to include a submarine for thrilling excursions beneath the waves a la Jules Verne, plus a helicopter and landing pad. She is also believed to house an array of PWCs, as well as a speed boat and a luxury car, as well as providing accommodation for additional crew and staff.

Although we have little information about the yacht's features, we do know that she will have an aft dip pool on her main deck, along with a further Jacuzzi on her sundeck and variety of alfresco social spaces. Pictures show that she also has a crow's nest attached to her central mast, offering lofty panoramic views for her more adventurous guests.

Access to sailing yacht KORU will be via folding side passerelles, discreetly hidden in the yacht's hull on either side. Rescue and work tender launches will likely take place further forward, as per regulations. Recent pictures show a large hatch opening in her lower deck aft, which may contain further tenders and toys, but may also double as a beach club.

Performance & Range

KORU is a 3,300 GT sailing yacht, built with a steel hull and aluminium superstructure, with teak decks. She was built to Lloyds Register ✠ 100A1 SSC Yacht Mono, G6, ECO(IHM) ✠ LMC UMS classification society rules.

Jeff Bezos' $500 Million Yacht: A Look at the World's Largest Private Vessel

Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, is known for his extravagant lifestyle and love for luxury yachts. In April 2023, Bezos took delivery of his newest and largest yacht, Koru, which cost a staggering $500 million or more. At 417 feet, Koru is the world's largest sailing yacht, surpassing the previous record holder, the 106-meter Black Pearl.

Built by Oceanco in the Netherlands, Koru is a three-masted sailing yacht that features a sleek and modern design. Unlike other yachts owned by billionaires, Koru is powered by wind and sails, rather than diesel engines. It is reported that the yacht has a range of 7,000 nautical miles and can accommodate up to 36 guests and 60 crew members. The yacht is also equipped with a helipad, a swimming pool, a spa, and a gym.

The delivery of Koru has sparked controversy and criticism, with some arguing that the money spent on the yacht could have been put to better use. Will Rotterdam Make Way for Jeff Bezos, Lord of the Seas?

Portrait of Sarah Jones

Jeff Bezos has it all. Billions of dollars, spaceships at his disposal, and soon, a $500 million super-schooner. The megayacht has been in the making for years , and is being built in the Netherlands. Upon completion, Y721 will be the largest sailing yacht in the world, with three masts, a black hull, and an accompanying “shadow vessel” with a helipad and room for Bezos’s other water toys. Yet misfortune has still befallen him. The yacht is large. Too large, by at least one critical metric: It cannot fit under the historic Koningshaven bridge in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, which it will need to get past to reach the ocean.

So city officials reportedly came up with a plan: They would temporarily dismantle part of the bridge so the Bezos yacht may pass underneath it. Bezos and Oceanco, the company building his superyacht upriver, would foot the bill rather than the city itself, and the bridge would be rebuilt after its ordeal. But officials have now backtracked, saying the plan has not yet been approved.

This is perhaps because the local population was not thrilled to hear that the bridge — known as “De Hef,” and a beloved local landmark even though it is no longer a working bridge — would be taken apart. “I think that’s why there is so much turmoil about Jeff Bezos and his boat,” the Dutch author Siebe Thissen told the New York Times. “People say, ‘Why this guy?’ It’s a working-class town, and they all know that Jeff Bezos, of course, he exploits his workers, so people say, ‘Why should this guy be able to demolish the bridge for his boat?’” The Times reported that hundreds of locals had said on Facebook that they would attend an event called “Throwing eggs at superyacht Jeff Bezos,” which sounds like a lovely way to spend an afternoon.

“Rotterdammers are proud of their city and don’t tear down iconic buildings just because you are superrich,” Pablo Strörmann, the event organizer, told the Times . (Strörmann also told the newspaper that the event was “mostly” a joke. Too bad!)

It is now unclear whether the city of Rotterdam will indeed dismantle De Hef for Bezos’s benefit. Nor is it clear what will happen to the superyacht, which must presumably find another way to open sea, or be built closer to it — unless Bezos is willing to settle for the world’s largest riverboat. Perhaps Bezos has finally discovered one problem that money can’t solve. Massive wealth will get you a lot. It will soothe fractious city officials and quash union campaigns, but maybe it can’t overcome the sentiment of a city that gives a damn about an old bridge.

Bezos is currently the second-richest man alive, behind Elon Musk. He has quite nearly conquered all he surveys. He can use his money to slip the surly bonds of Earth and touch the borders of space. But for now, De Hef stands in the way of his domain over the sea. Congratulations to the people of Rotterdam.

The Amazon founder's newest addition to his fleet was spotted over Labor Day weekend at Van Nuys airport in Los Angeles.

Jeff and his fiancee Lauren Sanchez were in L.A. for a double date with Kris Jenner and her partner, Corey Gamble , so it appears Sanchezos jetted into town on this Gulfstream G700.

By the way ... the double date went down at Giorgio Baldi in Santa Monica, a celeb favorite.

As for Jeff's new jet ... he bought it July and this particular model is hailed as one of the biggest, fastest and most advanced. This puppy tops out at speeds of Mach 0.925, which at 710 MPH is about 92.5% the speed of sound.

Inside, the jet is said to be "whisper quiet" and there are 5 living areas ... including a master suite with a bed, bathroom and shower ... plus a dining area, stateroom, lounge and a rest area for the crew.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ gleaming new $80 million private jet was spotted at a Los Angeles airport over the Labor Day weekend.

The sleek-looking Gulfstream G700 — which can travel at nearly the speed of sound — idled just across the tarmac at Van Nuys Airport on Sunday, according to a video posted to X by journalist John Schreiber.

It is not clear if Bezos was aboard his shiny new toy, but the mogul was photographed over the holiday weekend in Los Angeles with fiancée Lauren Sánchez.

Jeff Bezos' new Gulfstream G700 jet was spotted at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The couple went on a double date with Kris Jenner and her long-time partner Corey Gamble to Italian restaurant Giorgio Baldi, according to People .

Bezos, the world’s second richest person with a net worth valued by Bloomberg Billionaires Index at $202 billion, recently added the Gulfstream to his fleet of three other private jets, according to a report last month .

The G700 is considered the premier long-range business jet, able to hit Mach 0.925, around 710 miles per hour.

It sports a length of nearly 110 feet and a wingspan of 103 feet.

The spacious interior of the luxury plane is outfitted with up to five living areas and includes a private stateroom, dining area, a lounge and a crew rest area.

The seats in the cabin are made of premium leathers while the interiors are lined with fine woods and customizable finishes.

Bezos can also enjoy the perks of a master suite, which includes a fixed bed, private en-suite bathroom and the option of a stand-up shower.

There’s also a kitchen and lavatory, high-speed WiFi, a circadian lighting system that mimics sunrise and sunset, temperature control, fresh air circulation and a whisper-quiet cabin environment.

The G700 has a maximum range of 7,500 nautical miles.

Bezos’ plane made 28 flights in 39 days — leaving a carbon footprint of 264 tons, or 17 times what the average American emits in a year, according to JetSpy and other publicly available data.

Reps for Bezos have noted that he uses sustainable aviation fuel for his travels and pays for carbon offsets, which fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas pollution and cancel out carbon emissions generated by the trips on his planes and yachts.

Bezos apparently tried to keep his acquisition of the plane secret by using the Federal Aviation Administration’s program that allows jet owners to hide information about their aircraft.

Jack Sweeney, the Florida-based college student who drew the ire of Elon Musk and Taylor Swift for posting publicly available flight-tracking data about their private jets on his social media accounts, also kept tabs on Bezos’ new jet.

Bezos is also said to own two other predecessor models of the G700 — the Gulfstream G650 and a Pilatus PC-24.

Jeff Bezos' new Gulfstream G700 jet was spotted at Van Nuys Airport in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez's $80 million move will leave fans lost for words

Amazon founder jeff already owns two jets.

Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez have treated themselves to an $80 million jet – but when your net worth is $194.9 billion, the jet is a drop in the ocean.

The pair bought the jet earlier in 2024; the Gulfstream G700 is known for its impressive speed capabilities, reaching over a thousand kilometers per hour, 92.5 percent closer to the speed of sound.

Inside the jet, there are four distinct living areas – a primary bedroom suite, as well as a dining room with high-end kitchen, bathrooms, lounge with leather seats, and crew area. It seats 13 passengers, with room for eight to sleep, with the luxurious leather seats turning into ergonomic beds.

Jeff, one of the richest men in the world, reportedly also owns two predecessor models of the G700 — the Gulfstream G650 and a Pilatus PC-24.

Reps for the former Amazon boss insist that he uses sustainable aviation fuel for his travels and pays for carbon offsets, which fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas pollution, and claim to cancel out carbon emissions generated by private trips.

Lauren and Jeff were spotted arriving in the jet at Van Nuys airport in Los Angeles, landing in the City of Angels for a double date with Kris Jenner and Corey Gamble at Santa Monica favorite Giorgio Baldi.

Jeff and Lauren also have an extensive global property portfolio which includes a $68 million Florida mansion, a New York property overlooking Madison Square Park and a ranch in Texas.

They spend most of their year however on his $500million yacht, Koru , the world's biggest sailing yacht. The 417-foot vessel was made in 2021 in the Netherlands, and has three 229-foot masts and a helicopter landing pad . It also promises to be one of the most eco-friendly with Oceanco claiming it can cross the Atlantic without burning any fossil fuel.

It can sleep up to 18 passengers, and there are two on-deck pools, an outdoor dining area and a hot tub while inside there is a cinema and various meeting rooms. Famously, the yacht also features an elaborate figurehead made of polished wood which many believe was modeled off of Jeff's fiancee Lauren.

However, Lauren debunked the claims in an interview with Vogue in 2023, confirming the statue is a replica of Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, fertility, war, and gold.

Lauren Sanchez shines in $9,000 designer gown alongside Jeff Bezos at charity gala

Lauren Sanchez made a striking appearance alongside her fiancé Jeff Bezos at the Kering Foundation's Caring for Women dinner on Monday. Held at The Pool in New York City during New York Fashion Week, the event supports organisations dedicated to ending gender-based violence.

The 54-year-old former news anchor wore an off-the-shoulder Oscar De La Renta gown, priced at $9,000. Her dress featured appliquéd velvet and guipure lace. Sanchez, smiling radiantly, posed with Bezos, 60, as they made a grand entrance on the red carpet.

The gala also saw the presence of celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Dakota Johnson, who supported the charity event. Sanchez and Bezos were photographed with other notable figures including Ashley Graham, Priyanka Chopra, and Alessandra Ambrosio. Prior to the event, the couple arrived in New York City via helicopter. Sanchez was seen piloting the aircraft before they were transported in a bulletproof car surrounded by Bezos’ security team.

In recent weeks, Sanchez and Bezos enjoyed a sun-soaked trip in Italy with high-profile guests such as Leonardo DiCaprio and Katy Perry. The couple’s relationship was first revealed by the National Enquirer in January 2019, shortly before Bezos' divorce from his wife Mackenzie Scott and Sanchez’s split from her husband Patrick Whitesell.

Bezos, the world’s third-richest man with an estimated net worth of $165 billion, proposed to Sanchez in May 2023 on his mega-yacht. Sanchez shared in a Vogue interview that she was overwhelmed by the size of her pink diamond engagement ring, stating she “blacked out” upon first seeing it.

Sanchez recently engaged in social media fun, sharing a viral Instagram reel that humorously speculated on Bezos’ sleepwear, with nearly 11 million views.

This superyacht ceo didn't sell jeff bezos a $500m boat but confirms demand is 'absolutely incredible'.

MarineMax CEO Brett McGill is no stranger to selling superyachts that cost anywhere from $200,000 to $100 million to the ultra wealthy. Actually, it's his job to do so.

And based on years of experience, McGill understands why Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos may be building a monster of a floating luxury vessel.

"First thing I thought is why didn't my team get a hold of him and sell him a boat," joked McGill on Yahoo Finance Live when asked about his thoughts on the boat-buying Bezos. "Beyond that, I think it's relative for everybody. For some a 20-foot boat with three family members out anchored up on an island creating a memory that lasts forever to a yacht like that [Bezos'] where you can have several families and fishing gear, diving and snorkeling and tour the world — to each his own."

It may be relative for everybody, but when it comes to the world's richest man Bezos — make no mistake he is in rarefied air as it pertains to purchasing a boat.

Bezos is buying a 417-foot superyacht that boasts its own support yacht and helipad, Bloomberg reported earlier this month . The reported cost of the luxury sailing experience: $500 million. For some perspective here, a 25-foot 2022 Boston Whaler 250 Dauntless — no slouch of a ride for weekend boating fans — could set one back a little under $200,000.

As for MarineMax, McGill said business is very good for the second straight summer season as people look to escape the realities of the pandemic in all forms. For the six-months ended March 31, MarineMax saw sales surge 52% to $934.6 million. Same-store sales rose an impressive 33%. Net earnings increased more than fourfold.

MarineMax ( HZO ) shares are up nearly 50% this year, per Yahoo Finance Plus data .

"The demand is absolutely incredible, which gives us one of the best backlogs we have ever seen in the retail environment," McGill said.

That backlog doesn't include a $500 million superyacht for Bezos. But judging by MarineMax's stock price and financials, it doesn't need Bezos' oversized order.

Lauren sánchez dishes on low-key home life with fiancé jeff bezos: ‘my favorite time’.

Lauren Sánchez’s life behind closed doors seems to be very much low-key while she’s often galavanting on luxury yachts with her soon-to-be hubby Jeff Bezos.

And when the duo has time to themselves at home, Sánchez revealed that they’re often catching up on some shows.

“My favorite time is when the house is calm and quiet and Jeff and I are deciding what show we’re going to binge that night,” the Emmy-winning former news anchor, 54, told People .

The pair announced last year that they were leaving Seattle, where Bezos built his empire,  and moving to Miami  to be nearer to his loved ones.

With all the moving around, Sánchez admits that the pair are just as indecisive on what to watch.

“It takes a little bit of time to decide” she told the outlet. “You can imagine our tastes are a little different. But I love our TV time, we just have the best time.”

“We recently saw Baby Reindeer, which of course everyone saw. Fallout was also so good. We also just finished Presumed Innocent, which was incredible,” she continued. “Oh, and we loved Severance.”

It comes as Sánchez recently returned to the US following a romantic trip to Italy with her soon-to-be hubby.

The couple — who  got engaged  last year — were photographed sharing a sweet kiss in front of the Trevi Fountain in Rome before tossing coins into the fountain.

Later on, the lovebirds even enjoyed a sit-down meeting with none other than Pope Francis.

Sánchez raved about the honor, saying she was “deeply touched” over the Pope’s “wisdom, warmth, and humor.”

Three days prior, they spent time on Bezos’ $485 million superyacht in Sardinia with a slew of A-listers, including Orlando Bloom, Katy Perry, Leonardo DiCaprio and his girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti.

The star-studded clan came to shore on one of the Amazon founder’s smaller boats for lunch at a high-end beach resort before heading back to the massive vessel — Koru.

Bezos and Sánchez have spent most of their summer traveling around Europe aboard Koru.

The billionaire also owns a “smaller” $75-million yacht named Abeona.
