The Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani : Just near the port of Parikia, the Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani is one of the most preserved Paleo-Christian sites in all of Greece. Believed to have been built by Saint Constantine, the first Emperor of Constantinople, in the 4th-century AD, this church pays homage to the Assumption of the Virgin; the result of a promise made to the Virgin by Saint Helene, Constantine’s mother. Having changed over the years due to Paleo-Christian, Byzantine, and post-Byzantine influences, this church is unlike any other. With a name like Ekatontapiliani, Greek for “the Church with the Hundred Doors,” this church is rumored to have 99 doors. In keeping with tradition, it is believed that a secret door will open when the church of Hagia Sofia in Constantinople becomes Orthodox again.

Parikia : Also called Paros Town or Hora, Parikia, the capital of Paros, sits on the same site where the ancient city and capital used to rule Greece. Built around the island’s port, Parikia is recognizable by its white, cubed houses and vibrant wooden doors and balconies. Near the port itself, a whitewashed windmill stands tall; a symbol of Paros. 📍 FYLY Paros yacht charter base is located in: Parikia Marina, Paros, 84400, Greece.

⚓ Parikia Marina, Paros Berthing – 37°05.4′N, 25°08.9′E

🧭 Parikia is the main commercial harbor of the island. It is a fairly busy and noisy harbor but it is an excellent shelter form the meltemi and from the south winds. Moor stern-to in the Yacht Quay in Parikia paying particular attention to the boulders near the quay 3 metres on outside of west end less further east. The bottom is sand and weed — good holding. Laundry – Opposite Graveyard. Pick up and delivery to boat. Phone +30 6974 394887. There are permanent moorings inside the Yacht harbor. Charter boats use the harbor on weekends so a space may be difficult to find from Friday night through Sunday morning.

• 🕡 Disembarkation time: Clients must arrive back at base the day before the end of their charter, latest at 18:00 PM for check out procedures (technical check, refuel, diver’s check, etc). They have free overnight & they can disembark the yacht the next day at 09:00 AM

🗺️ How to get to FYLY charter base in Parikia Marina marina in Paros:

• ✈️ Paros National Airport: The airport was located in the southwestern part of the island, about 10 kilometers from the port of Parikia.
• 🚕 Taxi: You can find easily taxis at Paros airport & near Parikia Marina.

🛒 Provisioning: Clients can either go to the super market located around Parikia (open all-day, every day except Sunday) upon their arrival or they can pre-order (upon request) their provisions and FYLY Yachting team will arrange their delivery to their yacht. If they want to pre-order we will provide them a provisioning list.

🚇 Transfer facilities: FYLY Yachting could arrange a transfer for you by minibus or by taxi (upon request).

• 🚕 Taxi prebooked – up to 4 pax: approx € 50
• 🚌 Private Bus – up to 10 pax: approx € 100

🛂 Port authorities: Our base manager will arrange everything with Port Authorities. The only thing we require from the skipper of the charter is to have with him his original sailing license and to send a copy of it two weeks prior to his charter. 🌦️ Weather forecast: You should always try to get a weather forecast before sailing away, especially if going more than several miles from shore, as it is difficult to tell at a glance what winds will appear, due to large landmasses, mountains and other geographical features. You can use your radio, Navtex or contact the Port Police. A forecast in Greek and English is given for all Greek waters at 06:00, 10:00, 16:00, 22:00 (GMT+2). Gale warnings are given at the beginning of the broadcast and a special security warning on Ch 16 gives all the VHF frequencies for different areas. VHF channel 16 broadcasts Gale Warnings as well as regular forecasts, upon vessel request. OLYMPIA RADIO broadcasts pre-recorded Weather and Sea bulletins in Greek and English.

Paros, one of the most popular of the Cyclades islands is a unique mix of traditional Cycladic architecture, historical monuments, and modern – rich nightlife, amazing sand beaches stretching along 120 – km coastline, charming cliff-top villages, mountains, delicious food, and watersports.

HISTORY OF PAROS

Due to the findings on the islet of Saliagos, located between Paros and Antiparos, we know that the island has been inhabited since 3200 BC. According to mythology, the first king of Paros, Cretan Alkaios built a city on the site of the present capital of Parikia. Back then, Crete was trading with Egypt, the Balkans and Assyria.

Thanks to its central of the Cyclades location and fertile land, Paros became a perfect strategic spot where the Cretans built a naval station, calling it Minoa , a title in honor to Royal Cretan cities. In 1100 BC, the Ionians came to conquer the island and destroyed Minoans’ civilization becoming rulers of Paros.

Paros carries traces of Macedonian empire domination which was the prosperous period for the great discoveries like the ancient pottery workshop in Tholos, with its beautiful artworks, and the ancient cemetery of Parikia. Other influences come from Byzantine Empire rule when Paros’s inhabitants converted to Christianity, building many churches, chapels, and monasteries. Among those, the most famous is the Church of Ekatontapiliani in Parikia , considered the most important Byzantine monument in Greece.

Venetians and the Turkish rule also left marks in historical monuments, buildings, and churches. After the Greek Revolution in 1821 , Paros gained Independence and became part of the modern Greek State.

The Paros Environmental and Cultural Park, situated on the Agios Ioannis Detis peninsula, is an area of approximately 80 hectares of astonishing caves, rock formations, hidden coves, and seashores with crystal clear waters in an authentic Cycladic landscape. The main, organized beach of Monastiri is a well-protected and secluded shore located within Agios Ioannis Detis’ rocky bay. It’s a big beach with white sand and shallow waters perfect for swimming, water sports, and seaside activities. You can also experience the wonderful scenery of the Park by hiking along the 3 existing charted Walking Paths, spanning over 7km and varying from easy to moderate. Admiring the captivating sunset at Cape Corakas Lighthouse will be worth the long hike!

Explore Cycladic monuments

If you’re more into sightseeing, Paros offers a plethora of monuments, churches, and museums to visit. Located near Parikia, the Monastery of Panagia Ekatontapiliani (Virgin Mary of the Hundred Doors) is one of the oldest churches in Paros. Tradition says that the church has 99 doors and a secret door will open when the church of Hagia Sofia in Constantinople will be Orthodox again. The small Venetian Castle in the old port of Naoussa was built in the 15th century and served as a watchtower. Only a part of this fortress survived and now it’s the most characteristic place of the town.

Yacht Charter Paros (Parikia)

Parikia, also known as Paros Town, is the capital, and commercial and cultural hub, of Paros Island in the Cyclades island complex. It sits on a large bay, protected from the summer ‘meltemi’ and surrounded by stark white buildings in the Cycladic style. Parikia was built on the same site where the ancient city and capital used to stand.

Paros has long been an attractive destination and from Parikia you can rent a boat to explore all that is on offer in the Cyclades. Paros Island is in the center of the Cyclades and so a sensible base for sailing in this area. Parikia itself is worth exploring for its Cycladic architecture, winding alleys, archways, excellent museums and the ancient temple of Demeter, goddess of agriculture and fertility. There are good beaches on both side of the port. The remains of a 13 th C castle, called Kastro, stand on the highest point of the town, built from ancient materials found on site.

Coming ashore at night, there is plenty of entertainment. Most of the bars are along the south-west waterfront, from where the sunset is spectacular. Open air cinemas reside in the back streets and the lively, noisy clubs are further south on the waterfront.

The new Paros airport is located in the southwestern part of the island, about 10 km from the port of Parikia. It connects with Greek and several European cities.

By ferry, Paros is connected to the ports of Piraeus and Rafina. Ferries also run to some of the other Cycladic islands , like Ios, Santorini, Kimolos and Naxos. In addition, there are ferry connections to the islands of Crete and Rhodes in the Dodecanese. There is a choice of passenger ferry and high-speed ferry.

Sailing conditions

Sailing from Paros Town, the whole of the Cyclades complex is accessible, depending on what you want to see. Crowded and popular, or more remote, being on a boat is the way to see this region. The almost constant wind ensures good sailing and, for those who like something a little more challenging, there are longer passages with stronger winds. There are also plenty of safe and protected areas to sail around. The ‘meltemi’ can get very strong in this area in August.

Electrician graduate of Athens University, since 2011 on the island of Paros, next to the tourism professions. His first long boat trip at the age of 11 was enough for the sea and motor-sports to "captivate him. A co-founder and a skipper of Seacret Cruises, is always happy to share with you the secrets of the sea. "To wake up and see the ocean and the sun, so it should be all of our mornings."

Someone might say that he was born in the sea. Water skiing, surfing and diving entered his life at the age of 9. Graduate of tourism professions and a travel lover, he will always serve the sea and the infinite blue.
