I have watched it sail into the river and I'm impressed by how well it sails and manoeuvres. Tacks fast for a mono hull and is close winded. Makes a lot of sense as a trailer sailer.

Only downside is interior room.Get in it and lie in the bunks.Other than that get it.I have a tt720 and would struggle to go back to mono hull trailer sailing.

Yes it is a bit small in there! Has a nice bed under the deck toward the back. How does it handle gusty wind and choppy water?

little bit wet.but just goes quicker in the gusts.Take it for a test.

Got a clicky link for it felix ?

Plenty of room for hobbits. And they dont like weight aswell.Best bet is to get in and lie down.It is easy to say looking at pictures but i dont fit in my wing berths (length)leaving me to sleep in the rear berth. Its 23ft long but would have the same room as an 18ft mono trailer sailer. There is a good forum on yahoo.Link it from f-boats website.

From what I have heard the 680 sounds to be a better boat than the 720. I don't think you could go wrong at the price but it shouldn't hurt to throw an $8,000 offer at them. It is a BUYERS market.

The 680 is a bit more user friendly with the aft cabin. As the 720 has the weight of the crew to far back.Which is fine if your cruising but when your racing makes a difference. But when i race we sit out on the amas(pontoons) any way. The 680 is a great first tri and i have been watching the one you are looking at and it seems to be a great buy.I have watched it come down from 15 k over the last year.People usualy get a 680 then 720 for the bigger rig and space inside. Then they go even bigger but they never seem to go back to monos.Their is atleast one of every size on the gippy lakes where i sail and i have crewed on all of them.

Re:- Rail or road. I don't know what the economics of it would be but many years ago I had a car railed from Brisbane to Cairns. The locomotive was diesel powered and the car travelled without a cover. The diesel soot got into the paint work and knackered it. Absolutely would not wash off. It was an old car so I just wet sandpapered it off and gave it a polish. Be warned!!!

Prob best to pick it up yourself.I drove to Bundaburg from Victoria to pick up mine.(always a bit of bargaining tool)Same goes putting it on a truck, although i would say not as bad as a train re diesel soot. Put a post on Trailer sailer place.Or maybe give duckflat wooden boats a call they might know someone in the area.

Felix, talk to Perth based trucking companies as they may have a back load system for moving it back to Perth. Can end up half the freight price.

Looks GOOD !! ENJOY.

Thats awesome mate! Meant to be aswell, you got the better boat and it was close to home.Heaps of photos and advice on groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/TrailerTris/info .If you do have to get a new trailer stick with tandem as my single axle was hard to get rated tyres for the weight. And check your tramps out real good, plenty of stories of people going thru them.Havent been to the west coast on mine yet but it is a trip in the future. Also you can get the plans on cdrom for her from queensland multi hull club.for about thirty dollars delivered(maybe 40)

Thats a bargain mate!Yeah know what you mean by the mast length.Bit overwhelming after the 680's.What size outboard has she got? If your anything like me you wont be bothered taking vids, or forget, having so much fun!Guess thats a pastime for people who like watching themselves in the mirror.Enjoy!

fantastic mate - always sweet to see someone getting joy out of a "new toy" regards - D

Corsair Trimaran sailors

I am thinking about getting a trimaran, I sailed on one this weekend and there was maybe 10 knots of wind and we were doing 7 to 8 knots and the boat felt very balanced! I crew up on a munhaull, we had a 33 ft abbott and it was pretty safe. I am wondering if anyone capsized or if anyone had problems or have gotten in trouble with there trimaran? What are your experiences ?

farrier trimaran forum

Why weren't you doing like 20 knots I thought trimarans match the wind speed? I am looking for a 36 footer does Telstar make one? I couldn't find one on the INTERNET.

It is very difficult to do wind speed if you have to punch through 4-6' seas like that. That, and having reduced sail up, reduces your ability to sail at or above wind speed. On flat seas, that is normally quite easy to do. Trying to go as fast as possible is generally what causes most of the multihull capsizes... and I don't plan on having mine turn turtle any time soon. The Telstar 28 has two older siblings, the Telstar 26, which is also a folding trimaran design, and a much larger Telstar 35, but the Telstar 35 is rather rare AFAIK. If you're looking for a folding trimaran in the 36' range, you can go with either the Corsair F36, or the slightly larger Quorning Dragonfly 1200.

There is actually no such thing as a Corsair F36 - I separated from Corsair in 2000, and removed their right to use my F-boat trademarks soon after. There is my F-36 design (which has done a circumnavigation) and the Corsair C36, which I do not recommend. If looking for more information on trimarans, their safety, and performance, then look at my web site at Trimaran and Catamaran Designs By Farrier Marine, Inc. . I even have photos of capsized trimarans. But in this regard I have sailed and raced my trimaran designs for over 40 years now, in some very rough conditions (up to 80 knots), but have never managed to capsize one yet. Well not strictly true, as I did capsize one twice deliberately to check out a righting system. Ian Farrier

Sorry, my bad Ian... I knew that you and Corsair had parted ways, and that you did not design the C36, but that it is based on your previous designs in many ways. I have read your site quite often in the past, and have learned quite a bit from it.

Anything Ian Farrier touches is absolute GOLD! His designs are truly Second to None. I have often thanked GOD for his attention to detail especially when crossing the Gulf Stream in 10 footers heading home.

I'm a big admirer of Ian's work, too. I'd really like to see his F-33, but it's apparently not in production. Does anyone know how that compares to the Corsair 31?

You did such an awesome job comparing the Telstar 28 to the Corsair, I was rather hoping for something more enlightening! Even better, I was hoping Ian would chime in (I know you weren't looking at boats that size at the time SD). Steve

LOL... just read this reply... reason I didn't reply with a more thorough answer is that I've not been on a F33 yet. Imasonofasailor- Which Farrier design are you going to get?

I dont know there are so many that I like , the idea would be to just get one built for me! What ones do you think, I like the F33, F32, I deal would be the 36, that way I would not have to worry about upgrading! I I also was thinking in just getting a F24 because they are cheaper, I like the Aft look...

The F-36 is a large, ocean going, cruising multihull, with the capability of being demounted (not folding) for occasional trailering at 10′ (3.05m) wide. This gives tremendous versatility for an ocean capable boat.

F-36 Sails Around The World!

The trimaran’s superior handling and performance makes it the knowledgeable sailor’s cruiser of choice. Other advantages include a drier ride, with no immersed windward bow to throw back spray, no problems with wingdeck pounding, nor is a high windage boxy cabin required for standing headroom.

farrier trimaran forum

The fractional rig is efficient and easy to handle in all conditions, and the boat can be sailed to its full potential with a minimum of sails. A self-tacking jib is optional with the centerboard version and boom can be roller furling. A wire luff genoa (Screacher) set from the bow pole, eliminates the traditional genoa and multiple sail changes, making sail handling a breeze. It’s even more ideal for cruising. Rig size is conservative and this coupled with the F-36’s enormous 108,000 foot-lbs righting moment, gives a very safe cruiser.

Daggerboard or centerboard are optional, while a kick-up spade rudder is housed in its own retractable rudder box in the transom. Wheel steering is standard, but a tiller is optional with the aft cockpit version. The self-draining center cockpit can seat six adults, aft cockpit eight to ten.

farrier trimaran forum

An inboard of 20 to 30HP is recommended, located in a roomy and accessible area under the cockpit. Maneuverability is excellent under power, due to the trimaran’s superior turning ability, its center hull and daggerboard being natural pivots.

The beams are demountable, to give an occasional trailering capability at 10′ (3m) wide. The strut reinforced beams eliminate the need for full width beams, increasing interior room. The beams are smaller, lighter, easier to demount, and allow standing headroom between the forward beams.

Interior can accommodate six to eight, with standing headroom throughout. Galley is to port, and a chart table is on the starboard side, along with a wet locker. Dinette will seat five, and can be converted into a large double bunk. Starboard settee is wide and comfortable, and can be converted into top and bottom bunks.

Forward, there is a private bathroom with head, washbasin, and a separate shower. Forward cabin has a double berth, with seating room aft, and large storage areas underneath. The aft cabin has a double or two single berths with full sitting headroom. Access is through a hatch in the aft cabin front, or through under the cockpit.

farrier trimaran forum

An optional pilothouse can shelter the cockpit, giving standing headroom to the forward end of the aft cabin, and an all weather passage to the main cabin through the cockpit. The optional aft cockpit version gives even more main cabin space, while the cockpit size is considerably increased, with easier access over the stern.

Material or building options include both vertical stripped foam and strip planked Cedar or Durakore®. As with all Farrier designs, a monocoque structural system is used, with interior panels being designed to absorb and distribute structural loads making the hull a very efficient, strong, and light unitary structure. The connecting beams are made from either fiberglass or carbon fiber with foam core.

The F-36 JAM TODAY has now crossed the Atlantic (twice) and another has sailed from New Zealand to Japan.

and the owner won’t budge and return the deposit... I reckon it’ll be next year before we can freely cross borders again and the is just sitting there: it looks the same as a later Crowther Buccaneer and also a Grainger (Aeolus) Unfortunately the ones on there aren’t of interest.. would love to buy Ave Gitana (Currently in NZ) but her sister here for under $100k (prior to my searching) She was loaded with all the new hi tech green to which makes $230k NZD difficult to justify... I’ve been tempted to buy something for next summer but can’t afford two and surely as soon as I did the perfect would become available: hard when you have an image in your mind of something that doesn’t appear very often. Good luck to you too. Cheers.

design on Tradeaboat over there is close) I need to sell my Corvette and Kombi for that one plus most of the cash I have: she’s a Formula 40 with wider than usual centre and also extended: her sister boat here for less than half what they’re asking prior to my looking, not sure I can justify the , there a few F40’s around with skinny hulls for around $30k but I need to for a few months at a time.. it’s a bugger, I had an F9 Farrier lined up for $70k but after two years on the market he decided not to sell. Tri’s are a strange animal, take the Crowther Buccaneer for example, the 33’er is a basic looking boat yet the 37’er is nice and almost identical to a number of others... and prices vary so much.

Hence, I promptly sold the Investigator and got a Farrier TT680 trimaran. I felt I needed tp 'learn' the ropes on a trimaran because of the different dynamics presented in sailing a tri. The Farrier TT680 is my stepping stone to learning how to sail a trimaran whilst I save funds for a larger trimaran, a Farrier or similar 31/32 footer.

Highly recommend some way to get out of the elements on these boats, since the high speed and expansive deck area start to wear on your ability to function. Also highly recommend a tiller autopilot. The corsairs/farrier feature a very balanced helm, and therefore a minimal power draw.

  6. Farrier F32A

Some Farrier trimarans are kept folded in marinas but fouling of the float topsides is an issue and the lateral stability of a fully folded Farrier in a big gale is a bit questionable.
