Lil Yachty Debuted a New Hairstyle on TikTok and Instantly Became a Hilarious Meme
Updated Aug. 3 2020, 6:38 p.m. ET
Not all TikTok profiles are created equal, and we can probably all agree that Lil Yachty ’s TikTok is definitely on another level than most people’s. If you haven’t seen his incredibly hilarious and (mostly) wholesome content on TikTok, you are definitely missing out.
While most of Lil Yachty’s TikTok videos are great, one specific video has taken the internet by storm. It features him revealing his “ new hairstyle ” and it is, quite frankly, perfect — he has his nails done too! If TikTok really does get banned in the U.S., losing Lil Yachty’s content would truly be the greatest loss.
Lil Yachty showed off a new hairstyle on TikTok — and got his nails done too!
Most of Lil Yachty’s TikToks feature him just kind of living his life in his gigantic house. He’s not afraid to get a little goofy, though, as is evidenced by the video that people can’t stop talking about/making fun of. In it, Lil Yachty shows off the hairstyle shown above.
Images of Lil Yachty’s hairstyle quickly started getting shared all over the internet, with many people making jokes about the rather extreme look. Honestly, a still image really doesn’t do the hairstyle justice. Here’s the video in full (there’s some NSFW language in it, just so you know):

Incredible. As we said, people quickly took notice of the bumped-end hairstyle and started poking fun — all in good fun, of course! “I thought my auntie made a TikTok I almost choked,” one person commented on TikTok. “I THOUGHT THIS WAS SOMEBODY AUNTY,” said another.
In an earlier TikTok video, Lil Yachty also shared that he had gotten a manicure and pedicure. He had separate designs for each of his fingers, and on his pedicurist painted the word “TOES” across his toenails. We’re not sure whether Lil Yachty will be starting a new trend, but we love that he went for it.

After Lil Yachty’s hairstyle became a meme, he took to Twitter to say that he was a little embarrassed that so many people had seen the video. “I ain’t gone lie my TikTok was never supposed to get out now that it’s been found I am embarrassed,” he wrote . But honestly? We’re not really sure what we even did on TikTok before discovering that Lil Yachty has become a master of the TikTok arts.
It’s not like he needs to become a viral TikTok star in order to enjoy some popularity — obviously, Lil Yachty has already proven himself capable of grand levels of success that most TikTok stars can only dream of. In May, he released his newest album, “Lil Boat 3,” which debuted at No. 14 on the US Billboard 200. It features guest appearances from ASAP Rocky, Tyler, the Creator, Future, Drake, DaBaby, Young Thug, and others.

When he’s not making new music, he’s keeping his TikTok followers — more than 3 million of ‘em — entertained with his various antics. Sometimes that means talking about how his washer and dryer are "bullies." Sometimes it means smelling flowers in his yard . In short, he’s the best at TikTok and now we hope the app never ever gets banned.

LiL Yachty Hair Tutorial he is known for his edgy and cool personality. In fact, he is never afraid to style his hair in ways unimaginable the latest being his red braids . Who would have thought beads, braids and red would match and explode into a very unforgettable hairstyle.
The rapper is admired for his experimental take on his hairstyles. Perhaps, all rappers do try to be unique not only in their music but also their signature hairstyles (and out of this world names). We just thought.
His music is about being you and staying positive. Perhaps, it is the message he’d like to send us all with his red braid hairstyle. He also believes that people are all gold.
When asked about the inspiration behind his red hair, he said that he just wanted to look like Kris Kross that had his braids with multi colored rubber bands. However, he used to have short hair, so he only two strand twists.
When it grew back, he wore only braids – and then it grew longer and also black at the time. When he received a Mc Do job offer, his mother had his hair cut so that he’d look presentable. But when his mother saw how sad he was, she told him to dye it red – it is red hair since Grade 11.
How to Get Braids like Lil Yachty Hair Tutorial
Start clean.
To get your freshest man bun yet, begin your hairstyle with clean hair. Try using a hair care system that leaves your hair thick and full looking, like Dove Men + Care Thick & Strong Fortifying Shampoo + Conditioner . You want a cool braid, right? It all begins with the condition of your hair.
Apply styler.
Apply a pomade or paste, like KEEPIT HANDSOME Sculpting Paste that allows you to sculpt and reshape your hair. Rake it through with your hands.
Comb through.
Comb product throughout the hair to distribute evenly before you begin to braid.
Mold middle section.
Mold hair as if you were creating a high pompadour. This is where you will be creating your man braid.
Divide and braid.
Now to begin the braid! Divide hair into three even sections, then cross them over one another, one by one. Continue this stitch until you get to the ends of your hair.
For those of you that don’t know how to braid, before you call someone to do it for you, let us teach you. After dividing your hair into three even sections, cross the outer right strand of hair over the middle strand, then cross the left outer strand over the middle strand and repeat! You can do this in your sleep!
Secure and finish.
Secure the end of your braid with a hair elastic, and you’re done!

The style is different from other rappers because he thinks that he is different with his style and sound as well not only for his hairstyle taste. He also adds that there is no blueprint for the aesthetic and style in the south. So when there is a new hairstyle being introduced, he’d think it is perhaps a look from the 90s.
How To Take Care Of Braids Lil Yachty Hair Tutorial
Just wash it once it is braided. Make sure it is also deep-conditioned to keep hair healthy and moisturized. According to the rapper, he also applies oil to his braids and all those good hairstyling products. And if he could get to a stylist, he would have his hair braided once a week.

Lil Yachty Kissed His Signature Dreads Goodbye And Has Completely New Hair Now
View this post on Instagram A post shared by WorldStar Hip Hop / WSHH (@worldstar)
Lil Yachty’s never been afraid to rock the boat, bad pun intended. The buzzing rapper’s not waiting on January 1, 2017 to adopt the “new year, new me” mantra as he’s already decided to switch up his signature hairstyle, unveiled on Instagram Live late Monday night.
Gone are his signature beads and braids in exchange for a permed out look he chose to call “the James Brown look.” In the video, Lil Boat indicates he’s working on a new album and the look is just part of getting into the proper mode mentally. “I’m working on my album,” he said while munching on a corndog. “This look means seriousness. This hair do means hits. And to Funkmaster Flex this means a lot of mumble rap.”
The jab at Flex comes after the two spent the latter part of last week going back and forth over social media. Clearly, Funk Flex didn’t get the memo that Yachty’s unbothered by all the critique of his rap skills since he’s now a Grammy-nominated artist and landing big looks from the likes of Nautica , Sprite and Alexander Wang.
Naturally, social media’s response to Yachty’s new ‘do was a mixed bag, ranging from mild confusion to comical. Meanwhile, Yung Joc is somewhere flipping his hair and feeling himself for being a trendsetter at the sight of all this.

Lil Yachty Explains Why He Ditched His Signature Red Braids
Once upon a time, Lil Yachty proved to be a branding expert, infiltrating the world of hip-hop with his signature red braids and becoming an easy costume for kids to recreate on Halloween. Still, he is one of the most recognizable characters in rap and tonight, he will continue his path with his new album Lil Boat 3 .
Set to feature Drake , DaBaby , Tyler, The Creator , A$AP Rocky, Tierra Whack, and more, Lil Yachty will close out the trilogy before moving onto new avenues. Already, he has taken a different route with his hair, no longer sporting the colorful beaded braids that we once loved him for. In a new feature with Highsnobiety, the rapper explained his decision and said it's not as deep as people think.
Some of Lil Boat's fans theorized that the change in hair colors symbolized a musical switch for the critically-acclaimed superstar but, according to him, that's simply not the case.
"Honestly, it was hard to maintain," said the bubbly personality. "The bleach was literally killing my hair. My hair was just dying. It's growing now. That's all. It's just hair. I just kept it red because I loved it. But it kept falling out. It never would grow."
Now that he has black hair, some of Yachty's fans assumed that he would be making darker music. Again, that couldn't be further from the truth.
"I think sometimes people just assume things are a lot more complex. In my world, it's just not that deep, bro," he explained. "It's just music. It's all fun to me. There's no strategy behind it, like, 'oh, his hair was red, it's black now. [He's] making evil rap music.' It's not like that."
Lil Yachty previously released the music video for " Split/Whole Time " this week, which serves as the official follow-up to "Oprah's Bank Account" with Drake and DaBaby.

Lil Yachty Says He Was Bullied for His Hairstyle In School
Lil Yachty might be on top of the world right now when it comes to reaching major milestones in the music and entertainment world , but he had to go through a lot to get here. The "Peak A Boo" rapper sat down with Zane Lowe for an interview on Beats 1 Radio, where he spoke about the humble beginnings and moments of struggle that led him to where he is now.
While he talks about his upcoming Teenage Emotions album that's due out tomorrow, the Sailing Team captain also dives into other topics surrounding his hairstyle, being bullied in school as well and what happened when he decided to drop out of college at the age of 18.
Towards the beginning of their conversation, Yachty speaks candidly about his unique appearance, confessing that he was bullied at school for his hair.
"If anybody would've went through what I went through at that school, you would instantly cut your hair off," Yachty admits to Lowe in the interview.
The entertainer says he's had his signature red hair since he was in 11th grade after his mom told him to cut his braids off to get his job at McDonald's. After seeing that everyone at his job had braids and colored hair, his mom recommended that he dye his hair red, and it's been that color ever since.
"I was on my way to work at McDonald's. I had braids before. They were real long and they were black, but my mom made me cut them for the McDonald's job. Then when I got the job, everybody had long braids and colored hair. So I was going to work one day and my mom said, 'You should dye your hair red.' And a light bulb went off in my head. I did it and then my hair grew back and I've had it since," Yachty recalled of his signature hairstyle.
Lil Boat also details what was going through his mind when he decided he was going to drop out of college, leading him to pursue his now-successful music career.
"People used to always laugh at my hair and stuff like that. I just remember being in social studies, or world geography, and the teacher was talking. I was in the back and the lights was off and it just felt like, 'Wom, wom, wom, wom.' People were asleep, people were texting and I was just like, 'This is doing nothing. What am I doing?' I was dumb broke. I was so broke and I remember walking home and I called up my friend, and I was like, 'Man, I don't want to be here.' I went back to my room. I packed up everything I could take. I left my TV. I had a brand new like 40-inch flat-screen... I left," Yachty recalls.
Throughout the interview, the "Broccoli" hitmaker also speaks on his first taste of success with his music, his unique sound and what we can expect from his debut album.

Lil Yachty Says There's No Deeper Meaning Behind Decision to Ditch Red Braids
Some fans have ascribed meaning to Lil Yachty's aesthetic switch-up. The 'Lil Boat 3'-crafter, however, affirms there is "no strategy" at play.
The Lil Boat trilogy comes to a close on Friday with the release of Lil Yachty 's Lil Boat 3 , boasting the previously released "Split/Whole Time" and "Oprah's Bank Account," the latter of which features Drake and DaBaby .
The new era has fans ascribing meaning to a number of aesthetic and thematic possibilities, including Yachty's decision to forego the red braids look that was previously an ominpresent staple of his presentation as an artist. In a new interview with Highsnobiety , however, Yachty explained that the move is not indicative of anything as deep as fans might have assumed.
"Honestly, it was hard to maintain," he said in the new interview with Danny Schwartz, out this week. "The bleach was literally killing my hair. My hair was just dying. It's growing now. That's all. It's just hair. I just kept it red because I loved it. But it kept falling out. It never would grow."
He went on: "I think sometimes people just assume things are a lot more complex. In my world, it's just not that deep, bro."

Connecting the change to his approach to music as a whole, Yachty affirmed there is "no strategy" afoot. "It's just music," he said. "It's all fun to me. There's no strategy behind it, like, 'oh, his hair was red, it's black now. [He's] making evil rap music.' It's not like that."
Also in the interview, Yachty—who is said to have recorded the new album "four times from scratch" since sessions began in 2018—gave a similar explanation when asked if there's any thematic connection going on with the album trilogy.
"It's not that deep," he said. Peep the HS feature in full here .
Earlier this week, Yachty shared the video for "Split/Whole Time," which notably features an appearance by Playboi Carti. Revisit that below while wondering where Whole Lotta Red is.

Red braids, hair jewellery and multiple protective styles would explain why the Lil Yachty Braids topic became an area of interest and intrigue throughout his career.
The impact of his red braids was evident as he was able to brand, market and position himself separate from his peers who were also widely growing in popularity during the SoundCloud era.
Sounding the same and looking the same are sins in Hip Hop therefore its common to see artists get creative with their image, even if that means dying their hair!
Our editorial highlights some of the best Lil Yachty hair moments from his signature red braids, cornrows, and afro puffs.
Lil Yachty Braids Gallery
Signature red braids.
Lil Yachty had his hair coloured red and placed his hair in multiple protective styles to brand himself and it worked!
From the moment we were introduced to Yachty he kept his hair in red only changing back to his natural hair colour in recent years.
Whilst his hair was red it was styled in multiple ways as the images showcase but this also became stressful on his hair, In Yachty’s own words,
“Honestly, it was hard to maintain,” he said in an interview with Danny Schwartz.
“The bleach was literally killing my hair. My hair was just dying. It’s growing now. That’s all. It’s just hair. I just kept it red because I loved it. But it kept falling out. It never would grow.”

Side Cornrows
Similar in appearance to his red braids with the only difference being his hair colour change.
Having reverted to his natural hair colour for hair health reasons we saw Yachty continue the same braided styles whilst keeping his beads on the ends, I mean some things just don’t change right?
This style has been a favourite amongst different rappers with braids for years!
2 Big Braids
Another popular protective style from Yachty were his 2 big braids which he often wore during interviews, photoshoots, and music videos.
Due to it being a protective style it enabled him minimal manipulation and styling allowing for other important things to get done and let’s face it, when you’re a rap superstar you don’t want to be thinking about your hair all day, you’ve got deals to sort out, music to create and tours to go on!!
How to Maintain your Braids!
Having braids installed is a great feeling as it gives you a new look and confidence. To ensure you maximise your hairs lifeline it’s imperative the proper care and maintenance is applied to your braids. We have provided some tips below to ensure that they stay neat, tidy and clean.
Make sure Braids aren’t too tight
If you experience the pain of tight braids, this is your body informing you they need to be loosened or redone. Not only do tight braids damage your hair but you increase your chances of getting braid bumps and infected follicles which we want to avoid. This could lead to temporary or permanent hair loss, something we want to avoid of course!
Moisturize your scalp
We like to explain it like this, your scalp is an extension of your skin, and therefore it requires hydration and care. A good moisturizing routine helps it keep your hair bouncy, defined and healthy, but most important not dry. Find one best suited for your hair type.
Oil your Scalp
We mostly forget to apply oil on our scalp as were too busy focusing on the ends and length, yet it’s our scalp that hair grows from, therefore an oil routine is super important and non-negotiable.
Protect your hair while sleeping with a Durag
The main purpose of Du-rags and head wraps is to prevent stray hairs from becoming loose or tangled which creates the messy look. Protecting your hair at night keeps it in check.
Ensure you take your Hair out every 6 Weeks
As we mentioned before you’re going to have to ensure you let your hair breathe, then washed and it’s been advised for years that the 6 week mark is the sweet spot.
This is nothing short of good hygiene! Your hair has been exposed to multiple layers of dirt and environmental factors which requires up keep! Wash days are your best friend and it will repay you which shiny, clean hair.
