A New Jersey teen was killed in a horrific accident on the Jersey Shore this weekend when she was struck by a propeller while trying to get on a boat, police said.
Zeina Mahafzah, 18, was killed around 4:30 p.m. Sunday while trying to get from a raft into the boat that was pulling it in Sunset Park on Long Beach Island, New Jersey State Police said in a statement.
The teen from Wayne “sustained fatal injuries” from the propeller, cops said, without elaborating.
Sources initially told NBC 10 Philadelphia that the teen was dismembered while her dad drove the boat. However, the outlet did not include those details in updated reporting and police would not confirm who witnessed the horror.
First responders reported that other people on the boat witnessed the teen’s death, the outlet reported.
A police investigation is ongoing.

There’s a private island up for sale off the coast of Nova Scotia, and it comes complete with everything required to escape civilization.
“Anyone looking for beautiful seclusion can isolate for over a year without leaving the island!” says a listing for The Lodge at Strum Island .
The 10-acre private island is nestled in the heart of Mahone Bay, which is about an hour’s drive from Halifax International Airport, along Nova Scotia’s South Shore. The island, which is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, can only be reached by boat or helicopter.

The island is on the market for $13.1 million or US$9.5 million.
According to the Coldwell Banker Global Luxury website, which is listing the property, the island includes a three-storey main lodge with “meticulously hand-crafted details, uncompromising privacy, and spectacular views.”
The island is owned by Strum Island Holdings, a corporation registered in Canada with three American co-owners.
“My partner is the one who primarily developed and built it. He’s lived there for at least six months each year for the past 13 years,” said Richard Goldenberg, one of the owners who, like his partners, typically vacations on the island during the summer. “I live in Florida, so I would visit the island periodically, year-round, for vacations.”
The partners decided to sell because they are currently developing a five-star hotel in California, which requires their full-time presence for at least the next three years, Goldenberg said.
The 9,500-square-foot home offers six bedrooms, each with its own ensuite bathroom. The lodge features a rustic hand-carved bar, a signature fireplace, and a massive gourmet kitchen equipped with dual Lacanche gas ranges and a large dining area with a butler’s pantry.

The home spans two floors of living space, with a media room, exercise room, spa, and an expansive third-floor primary suite that includes an executive lounge. There is also an observation tower with a stunning 360-degree view of the Atlantic Ocean.
In addition to the main lodge, the island features a two-storey guesthouse, complete with its own kitchen and coffee bar, dining room and lounging area.
There is also an outdoor “Lobster Temple,” with a wood-burning fireplace and lobster pot arm and two other small buildings, the “Rose Hut” and “Beach Hut,” for taking in ocean views away from the main house.
“Relax with a glass of wine in the rose hut while soaking in the hot tub, or feast with friends in your very own lobster temple! Whatever escape you are looking for, you will find it on Strum Island,” reads the listing.
There are separate staff quarters on the island, which are currently being used as a licensed micro-cannabis processing facility, but the new owners can convert the property back to bedrooms, the listing says.
The online brochure says that the island comes with two boats, is equipped with a helicopter landing pad, and is powered by a large undersea cable connected to the main power grid, with propane generators as a backup. There is also a sea wall protecting the island.
Strum Island is lush with vegetation, including some 50,000 plants, and features a self-sustainable vegetable garden that includes strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, grapes, peas, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, mint plants, and other herbs and spices. A video for the property says it’s also possible to fish and hunt for food on the island.
It is “designed with security, seclusion, and self-sustainability in mind,” the listing says.

Seven bodies have been found after a superyacht sank off the coast of Sicily.
Twenty-two people were on board the vessel named Bayesian when it got into difficulty in the early hours of Monday, with 15 people rescued.
Here's what we know about the sinking of the luxury vessel so far.

What might have caused the sinking?
The British-flagged luxury vessel, named Bayesian, capsized at around 4.30am local time on Monday morning off Palermo, according to ship-tracking site Marine Traffic.
It sank in as little as 60 seconds with 22 people on board, 12 passengers and a crew of 10, according to the Italian coastguard.
Waterspouts, essentially tornados that form over water, were seen as powerful winds battered the area overnight, local media said.
The yacht may have sunk faster with all the doors open due to the hot weather, Sailing Today magazine editor Sam Jefferson has said.
"I imagine all the doors were open because it was hot, so there were enough hatches and doors open that it filled with water very quickly and sank like that," he said.
Official pictures show air conditioning units in several of the rooms, however, which could counter the suggestion open windows caused the vessel to sink faster.
The huge mast is also likely to have played a role, he added.
What are waterspouts?
Waterspouts typically occur during thunderstorms and can develop very rapidly, within minutes.
Their spin generally reaches wind speeds between 75-200mph, but can reach as high as 300mph.
They can travel at about 10-20mph typically but can reach greater speeds, making them difficult to avoid - especially in something as slow-moving as a yacht.
Matthew Schanck, chair of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, called the reports of a tornado or waterspout "rare" and "quite alarming".
"The vessel was at anchor in a recognised anchorage," Mr Schanck said.
"Depending on wind direction and the state of the sea, this informs the captain whether it is a safe area to anchor or not. There was nothing that was too concerning, for my eye. All in all, the captain used the information they had to make a safe call."
Who owns the yacht?
The yacht belonged to the family of British tech tycoon Mike Lynch. He was confirmed to have died after rescuers found his body on Thursday. Mr Lynch was on holiday with his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, who is still missing, and his wife Angela Bacares, who was rescued.
Mr Lynch, 59, was known as the " British Bill Gates " and has been in the headlines in recent months over a high-profile fraud case.
In June, a US jury cleared him of all charges, which were related to the 2011 sale of his software company Autonomy to Hewlett-Packard (HP). The yacht trip is believed to have been a celebration of the end of Mr Lynch's legal troubles.
HP accused him of deliberately overstating the value of the company before it was acquired by the American tech giant.
Mr Lynch was extradited to the US to face trial in May last year and spent 13 months under house arrest in San Francisco as he awaited trial on 17 charges of conspiracy and wire fraud brought by the US Department of Justice - which were later reduced to 15 charges. He always denied any wrongdoing and was acquitted.

Who was on board when the boat sank?
The passengers were largely British and American, with crew members were from New Zealand, South Africa, and Canada.
Charlotte Golunski was among the Britons rescued. Her LinkedIn profile says she is a partner at Mr Lynch's firm Invoke Capital and has worked there since 2012.
Speaking after the ordeal, Ms Golunski told Italian media that she lost her daughter Sofia for "two seconds" amid the "fury" of the sea but was able to retrieve her. She said she held the infant above the waves until the lifeboat was ready.
"Many people screamed. Luckily the lifeboat inflated and 11 of us were able to get on board," she told ANSA.
The girl's father James Emsley also survived, according to Sicily's civil protection agency.
Also on board were Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of investment bank Morgan Stanley, his wife Judy Bloomer, a top US lawyer Chris Morvillo, who worked on Mr Lynch's criminal case, and his wife Neda Morvillo. Divers confirmed on Thursday that their bodies had been recovered.
The yacht's captain James Cutfield survived, along with South African crew members Leah Randall and Katja Chicken.
Recaldo Thomas, a Canadian-Antiguan chef who was working on the boat, was the first to be found dead, the Italian Coastguard confirmed to Sky News.
During rescue efforts, divers saw "corpses through the portholes" of the wreck as they recovered the body of a man at a depth of 50m (164ft), according to Salvo Cocina, the head of the Civil Protection of Sicily.
What do we know about the vessel?
The Bayesian is owned by a company controlled by Mr Lynch's wife.
It was known for its unusual 72.3m (246ft) single mast - one of the world's tallest made of aluminium - and shared its name with the statistical method Mr Lynch's Autonomy software was based on.
It was built by Italian company Perini Navi in 2008 and last refitted in 2020.
It was listed for rent for up to €195,000 (£166,000) a week, according to online charter sites.
The luxury vessel , which was managed by yachting company Camper & Nicholsons, could accommodate up to 12 guests in six suites.
It won a string of awards for its design, according to online specialist yacht sites.
Mr Schanck, of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, said the vessel would have been equipped with "high standard" life-saving appliances and radio communications.
He added the yacht would have met all international standards and UK Maritime Coastguard Agency regulations before its voyage.
It was previously named Salute, or "health" in Italian, when it flew under a Dutch flag. Its minimalist interior featured light wood with Japanese accents designed by the French designer Remi Tessier, according to descriptions on charter sites.

What were its last movements?
The boat left the Sicilian port of Milazzo on 14 August and was last tracked east of Palermo on Sunday evening, with a navigation status of "at anchor", according to vessel tracking site VesselFinder.
The Bayesian previously travelled to other parts of Sicily before its last sighting off the coast of the port of Porticello.
On Sunday, the boat was seen off the coast of Cefalu before it travelled towards Porticello, MarineTraffic data shows.
In the days before, the yacht travelled around four of the Aeolian islands, just north of Sicily.

The Long Island Railroad that opened up Long Island to its explosive growth in the 19th century, is now the busiest commuter railroad in North America and operates year-round 24/7. Bridges, tunnels and ferries connect Long Island to Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx and beyond, with ferries crossing the Long Island Sound to Connecticut and Rhode Island. Long Island was originally inhabited in the 1600s by a number of Indian tribes, mainly the Matinecock, Rockaway, Merrick, Montauk, Shinnecock, Narragansett, Manhasett, Canarsie and Patcheog—names recognized in towns and villages across Long Island; tribes that spoke dialects of a common Algonquian language, that also inhabited Connecticut. When English and later, Dutch settlers arrived, they began purchasing land for private ownership from these indigenous tribes who didn’t understand the concept, as they expected the land to be shared. The Dutch settlers focused on Manhattan Island and western Long Island in what became Queens and Brooklyn and Nassau County.
Suffolk County remained English and politically connected to Connecticut. Eventually eastern Long Island settlers yielded to pressure from New York and Suffolk County became part of New York State. The Indian tribes, who lived near the shores, traveled by canoe and fished the bounty of seafood in local waters—oysters, crabs, lobster and fish. Fish were used to fertilize farms of corn and other vegetable produce, that the settlers also farmed for sustenance. The settlers also ranched livestock, unlike the Indian tribes, who hunted deer, turkey and other small game. During the Revolutionary War, the British held Long Island after defeating George Washington’s troops and headquartered in Huntington until the war ended in 1783, as they used Long Island as a supply depot for British main headquarters in Manhattan.
In the 1800s, Long Island was still mostly rural and agricultural. As the western end near Manhattan grew more populous, a railroad service was built in 1836 to run in Brooklyn and Queens and was incorporated into the line completed in 1844, that became the Long Island Railroad servicing the eastern part of Long Island. Competing rail lines that were built on the south shore to bring tourists to beaches and shoreline hotels were eventually absorbed into the Long Island Railroad as Branch lines. From the opening of the first railroad service, population growth doubled every 20 years up to 1930, as bridges and tunnels were constructed allowing people from the City and other states to access Long Island by automobile. During America’s “Gilded Age” from about 1870 to 1900, a time of industrial development and rapid economic growth, wealthy industrialists (JP Morgan, William K Vanderbilt, Charles Pratt, Otto H. Kahn, etc.) built huge mansions on country estates on Long Island’s north shore within close proximity to Manhattan.
These towns became known as the “Gold Coast” and solidified as American icons by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1925 novel, The Great Gatsby and the film versions that ensued over the years, starring Robert Redford/Mia Farrow in 1974 and in 2013, Leonardo DiCaprio/Carey Mulligan. It was originally a silent film made in 1926 (lost) based on the George Cukor Broadway stage version of that year. Today most, if not all, of the remaining original estates such as Otto Kahn’s “Oheka,” have been restored and repurposed as historical public parks and inns.
World-renowned aviator, Charles Lindberg took off from Long Island’s Roosevelt Field for his historic 1927 solo flight over the Atlantic to Europe in his plane, the “Spirit of Saint Louis.” This amazing feat of aviation helped establish Long Island as an early hub of aviation development in the 20th century. LaGuardia Airport opened in 1939. Mitchel Air Force Base was established during WWII along with military aircraft production by Grumman and Fairchild Aircraft, that continued in Long Island to the Space Age, with contracts for space exploration components and space shuttle vehicles. Eventually production moved out of Long Island and the early airports closed. The huge Roosevelt Field shopping mall was developed on the former Mitchel Air Force Base site. The “GI Bill” benefitted returning WWII veterans with housing incentives and Long Island’s population exploded as housing design was simplified for mass-production to accommodate demand, creating affordable instant suburbs, such as Levittown.
The 21st century has become a time of transition from the “blue-collar” industrial past to a more cultural and high-tech scientific focus with major research labs and universities, such as Cornell University Duck Research Lab, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Cold Spring Harbor Research Laboratory, Long Island University, Adelphi University and Stonybrook University. The waterfront towns and villages that had become rundown, particularly on the south shore, underwent a gentrification and transformation process as once again, new wealth invested in waterfront real estate for upscale single family homes, condos and townhomes located near or on the water—some with their own marinas. Waterfront shopping, dining and entertainment districts with parks, attractions and special events to provide family enjoyment, lively nightlife, and recreation were developed to attract area residents and visitors from the City. Marinas and Yacht Clubs, waterfront restaurants, tour and casino cruise lines dot the shorelines as people have taken to the water. Boating has skyrocketed as recreational sport fishing, pleasure boating, coastal and long-distance cruising have become the ultimate summertime pleasures of the Island life!
