Home sweet home is a Lagoon 420

Bob and Margaret Kennedy have called their Lagoon 420 home for 6 years, “We thought it was terrific. In comparison, our other boat was ‘camping’, but this was ‘home’. We found a little-used boat in very good condition – we lucked out with the perfect boat.”

“There are so many wonderful memories from this short time at sea – sunsets, dolphins, peaceful night watches – this way of life is just spectacular and really feels right for our family. We pinch ourselves each day and wonder when we’ll wake up from the dream,” Lagoon 42 owners the Jones family.

Is this the best Lagoon 450 ever?

Is this the best Lagoon 450 ever?

This Lagoon 450F was Johns 3rd out of 4 Lagoons “You want to buy a production boat, built in a factory in series. You get a properly designed and built boat. Compared to other 40ft boats a 40ft Lagoon will have the most volume. A signature of Lagoon is its vertical windows. The advantages are you have ample headspace in the saloon, plenty of light and 360 degree views, whilst keeping the sun out.”

“We’re in Les Sables-d’Olonne and we’re taking the boat out for a test sail and I’m floating on a cloud, I’ve got no idea what’s going on! It’s the most stunning day – in January no less! The weather was fine and the wind almost calm, but regardless she made 3 knots in 5 knots of breeze. What a clever little thing she is!”

“As soon as we got onboard, we were sold— the sliding doors were brilliant, the big glass window right by the kitchen sink—it was just like an apartment,” said Lagoon 39 owners.

With only limited yachting experience between Darren and Kristy, their Lagoon 500 is fortunately “very user friendly and it was easy to pick up”. To anyone considering following their lead, Kristy is quite clear — “Do it!”

The Atkinsons love their catamaran. They had the design in mind for 20 years, and even though they weren’t actively looking, when they saw the Lagoon 400, they found the exact layout they had been dreaming of.

‘When you’re in a wheelchair there’s a lot of places you never see or you can’t get to. They’re just not accessible. Yesterday when we were out we sailed past some of those places that I have never seen before,’ Cliff said. For many sailors the freedom of the sea is one of the attractions. For Cliff, it’s life changing.

Boat Description

The Sunreef 60 is an all-round sailing leisure yacht, built for transoceanic performance in comfort and luxury. Characterised by her sleek grey hulls, Calma is a stylish yacht that offers guests 225m2 of luxurious living space and plenty of room for entertaining and socialising. Thanks to the sliding door, the saloon blends seamlessly with the outside, opening onto the large aft deck, as well as the bow terrace.

Heading upstairs to the flybridge, guests will find the BBQ, wet bar and plenty of seating as they unwind and admire panoramic views over the water.

Calma’s interior is designed to create a calming, yet chic and glamorous feeling on board, with a modern grey, black and white palette, combined with warm wooden features, dark paneling and grey soft furnishings across the yacht. The cosy saloon is the ultimate space for lounging and also features a dining area and fully functional galley for a professional chef. The huge panoramic windows surrounding the saloon means natural light is a welcomed and permanent fixture during the day.

The hulls provide impressive volumes housing five guest suites for up to ten guests overnight. Of the five cabins, one is the master stateroom and four are double guest suites, all with their own en-suite facilities, air conditioning and plenty of storage space. Calma also provides accommodation for three professional crew members.

2022 Sailing Special Buyer's Guide

Thanks to their habitable volume and deck space far superior to those of an equivalent-length monohull, multihulls in this category offer most of the attributes of serious yachts. Beyond a length of 60 feet, here we are at the gates of Superyachting... Exceptional machines that nevertheless require one or more professionals on board.

MC60 - Style and performance

60 ft sailing catamaran

Since first being presented at the 2018 Cannes Yachting Festival, the MC60 has seen three units built. Not a bad commercial performance for such an exclusive catamaran. The nacelle is designed ‘open space’ in line with current trends, but as for the rest, the MC60 is nothing like the others: a very specific topside form, high-tech mast support strut to distribute the loads, tempered glass panes, sliding side windows, no forward beam, sail-trimming flybridge set aft... it’s impossible to remain indifferent! In the hulls, the cabins offer volume and comfort without compromising performance thanks to a generous sail plan and superb centerboards.

Builder: McConaghy Boats  Architect: Ker Yacht Design Length: 60’1” (18.30 m) Beam: 28’2” (8.58 m) Draft: 4’7”/12’4” (1.40/3.75 m) Upwind sail area: 2,260 sq ft (210 m²) Cabins: 3/4 Water: 148 US gal (560 l) Fuel: 148 US gal (560 l) Motors: 2 x 57 HP Price: US$ 2,148,000 ex-tax

SUNREEF 60 - Welcome to the world of luxury

60 ft sailing catamaran

The Sunreef 60 is undoubtedly reminiscent of her big sistership, the 80 - this model of the same generation is in a way the best-seller of the range. The exterior lines bear close resemblance, as does the flybridge, the vertical side windows and the coachroof-bimini shape. The interior (2,420 sq ft/ 225 m²), the saloon and the cockpit merge into the hydraulic platform, which extends them into a terrace. The cabinetwork is remarkable. The in-house design team has considerable experience in listening to customers: each unit is different. High rigid bulwarks, and forward interior helm station with panoramic view also characterize this model.

Builder: Sunreef Yachts Length: 60’ (18.30 m) Beam: 33’6” (10.20 m) Draft: 6’3” (1.90 m) Mainsail: 1,022 sq ft (95 m²) Genoa: 915 sq ft (85 m²) Spinnaker: 3,230 sq ft (300 m²) Cabins: 4/6 Water: 211 US gal (800 l) Fuel: 264/462 US gal (1,000/1,750 l) Motors: 2 x 75/110 HP

MOON YACHT 60 - Loads of volume - made to measure

60 ft sailing catamaran

While this imposing 60-foot catamaran discovered at the Cannes Yachting Festival may lack finesse in the design of its superstructure, it does offer exceptional overall volume for its size. The same goes for the sunbathing areas, which are absolutely gigantic. In this category, only the Sunreef 60 is able to compete with this new model unveiled at the Cannes show. This isn’t a totally insignificant comparison, because Moon Yachts also happen to be built in Gdańsk, like Sunreef... The interior layout can be planned according to the Owner’s wishes. An 80-foot sailing version and powercats have also been announced by the manufacturer.

Builder: Moon Yacht  Length: 60’1” (18.32 m) Beam: 31’8” (9.64 m) Draft: 5’7” (1.70 m) Mainsail: 1,140 sq ft (106 m²) Genoa: 689 sq ft (64 m²) Displacement: 54,250 lbs (24.6 t) Water: 2 x 163 US gal (2 x 620 l)  Fuel: 395 US gal (1,500 l) Motors: 2 x 57 HP CE certification: A

  • Tiara’s Newest 56-Foot, 600 HP Boat Is a Speed Demon in a Full-Feature Package

Tiara just joined a small club of builders that make center consoles over 55 feet. But this new boat distinguishes itself from competitors through luxurious details and smart design.

Michael verdon, michael verdon's most recent stories, why this luxe cruise ship’s 3-year world tour got stuck in belfast before it started.

The Tiara 56 LS cockpit opens at the sides.

These larger models have become status symbols, partly for their impressive speeds, but also for the luxurious details—at least insofar as sportfish boat makers view luxury—across the boats. But many don’t quite understand the definition of luxury on a boat, at least not the same level that brands from Italy understand and implement it, which explains the significant increase in imports over the last ten years.

Tiara is one of the few US boat brands that gets luxury is more than expensive looking gadgets, but about the whole package.

Its new 56 LS, standing for luxury sport, strikes a nice balance between the two words in its name, without going to extremes on either end. “We want to have the performance, but offer a true luxury experience,” Tom Slikkers, Tiara CEO told Robb Report , bristling a bit when his new boat is compared to competitors.  “We see luxury as not just being able to get from point a to point b in record time, but enjoying the whole day aboard. Our competitors aren’t necessarily thinking that way.”

The 56 LS also has some distinctive features from its smaller 48LS and 43LS siblings. “We realized it was time for the next generation,” says Andrew Bartlett, Tiara’s director of design. “We wanted to keep the DNA of our center console design, but provide more enclosure behind the helm station, so owners can seal it during bad weather.”

Tiara 56 LS Foredeck

A disappearing bulkhead, a feature taken from its EX60 inboard model, proved a viable solution. “That let us keep the boat’s main characteristic of openness in good weather, but provides protection so owners don’t have to go below-decks in bad,” adds Bartlett.

The aft cockpit has a modular design that allows movement of the seating, inclusion of the dining table and connection to the outdoor galley for different social occasions. Both rear sides fold down to expand the cockpit size by about a third.

The cabin is a two-stateroom design, with two heads and a shower. The foredeck also has a settee and table, more in line with a cruiser than a center console. Fit and finish throughout promises to be as luxurious as Tiara’s other models.

The new 56 LS may not be able to claim the title for speed or size—Scout is building a new 67-foot center console for release later this year—but it could well be the most luxurious center console on the water when it debuts at the Miami International Boat Show next February.
