biggest yachts on below deck

In the fourth spin off of Below Deck, the now infamous decided to spice things up a little. Instead of the usual Mediterranean or Caribbean routine, Below Deck went to the less explored (but extremely breathtaking) Norway.

For this new serie filled with adventure, Below Deck picked the motoryacht Mercury, ex Malibu and Kermit, to explore the Fjords Norway is famous for.

Mercury is a 50m motoryacht built by the dutch shipyard Amels, and designed by Terence Disdale.

She can accomodate up to 12 guests and 12 crew onboard. No doubt, that should be enough for this new exciting season.

Northern Sun: the yacht in Below Deck Down Under Season 2

northern sun below deck down under season 2

Below Deck Down Under season 2 explored the coasts around Cairns, the gateway to access the great barrier reef and the Whitsunday Islands.

And it’s hard to imagine a better yacht than the Northern Sun motoryacht to explore this iconic area. The Northern Sun is a 50.8m (now yacht) that used to be a vessel dedicated for ice exploration. The refit work took two years but was clearly worth it when we look at the result displayed in this second season of the Australian Spin off.

Although the Northern Sun is built by the Japanese Narasaki shipyard, it surely is a boat that fits Australian waters quite well and could delight anyone looking to explore the most rugged locations in style, whether they are polar or tropical.

Northern Sun is available for charter from $161,700 / week . Her latest asking price was $15,000,000 .

I lived ‘Below Deck’ on a luxury yacht — here’s what you need to know

Tahiti, St. Thomas and the French Riviera — I’ve yachted in all of these exotic locales, albeit from the comfort of my couch. And, millions of Americans are in the same boat.

In 2013, “Below Deck,” introduced the masses to the most glamorous mode of traveling: yachting. Since then, it’s become a Bravo mainstay with Season 9 of “Below Deck Mediterranean’’ premiering in June.

But how real is the reality show? I spent five nights on a yacht in Croatia to find out.

A tip on tipping

My suitcase wasn’t bursting with Benjamins. An agency at your final destination provides cash for the crew’s tip money. While you’re expected to tip $30,000 for a two-night cruise on “Below Deck,” in real life you only have to tip 10% to 15% of your charter fee. That’s about $10,000 for a two-night cruise on a 180-foot charter yacht like Mustique (from $250,000 a week), which stars in the new season.

According to Zvonimir Androi, president of the yacht charter company Via Croatia, more often than not, the tip comes from what’s left over after provisioning.

So, shun the Dom Pérignon and skip the beluga caviar, and you’ll have money to spare.

What’s up, dock?

In real life, “Below Deck’s” favorite commercial-break cliff-hanger isn’t nearly as dramatic. Docking in our yacht, Via Croatia’s five-cabin, 100-foot Adriatic Escape (from $52,800 a week), was breezy.

I asked the crew if they hated setting up the slide — a tortuous, Herculean task if you believe what you see on TV.

“It’s not that bad,” a twentysomething Croatian deckhand, as cute as his on-screen counterparts, told me. “That said, we’re definitely not sad if you don’t ask for it.”

Play it cool

Despite being served meat on more than one occasion, my vegetarian co-guests on board weren’t divas when it came to cuisine — a major source of chef-related stress on the show.

Tantrums aren’t the norm Barbie Pascual, the “Below Deck” stewardess famous for putting up with former “RHONY” star Jill Zarin’s demands for the perfect Diet Coke in the “Real Housewives of Grenada” episode, tells me. “Guests know they are being filmed so their reactions are more extreme than they’d be if the cameras weren’t around,” she says.

Pascual’s biggest tip for first-time yachters? Don’t go skinny dipping, like they do on the show, after dark.

“People forget about currents, sharks, etc.,” she says. “Jumping in the water should always be with the captain’s consent!”

Our humorless Croatian yacht captain was a far cry from “Below Deck Mediterranean’s” affable Captain Sandy Yawn. I think we only saw him twice over the course of four days, and he definitely didn’t join us for dinner.

That was fine by us because the stews and deckhands were always handy with anything we needed — including at chat.

Asking for it

“No” is a word you’ll never hear on a yacht, unless there is a safety issue, Pascual says.

While we didn’t ask our crew to do a striptease or decorate for ‘70s night (two recurring requests on the show), out-there demands aren’t out of the question, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

For example, Via Croatia is currently retrofitting one of its multimillion-dollar superyachts for an upcoming charter booked by a multigenerational Jewish family from Florida.

“In addition to paying the charter fee, the client is literally buying everything new: pots, pans, silverware, etc.” said Androi. “They’re even spending $30,000 on a new tender for the elderly mother-in-law.”

Now, I’m no reality show producer, but a picky primary trying to keep his wife, her elderly mom and their kosher kids happy at sea has the makings of an Emmy Award-winning episode.

Yachting on a budget

Charters are cheapest at the beginning and end of a destination’s season. Via Croatia’s yuppiest yacht, the 160-foot, 12-cabin Agape Rose , fetches $200,000 a week in July and August. But it’s just $164,000 a week in April and October. Divide that by 24 of your closest friends and family and it’s just $6,800 a person.

If that’s still too much, consider booking a yacht club suite on one of MSC Cruises ’ Mediterranean voyages.

Sure, you’ll be on a cruise liner, but for $1,659 a person you’ll be treated to seven nights of private butler service with a private pool and restaurant that the pleb passengers don’t even know exists.

Delivered by U.S. yard Trinity Yachts in 2006, the vessel is getting a little long in the tooth but underwent a substantial refit last year. The white hull was painted sky blue, the operational systems were upgraded, and the interior was revamped. The vessel’s name was also changed to Purpose this past January.

Large enough to accommodate both guests and reality TV stars, Purpose is equipped with six generous cabins, including an owner’s suite, a VIP, three doubles, and a twin. In addition, the yacht features a sprawling main salon with a baby grand piano, a formal dining room, and an upper deck lounge. The living quarters evoke the Golden Age of yachting, with dark wood paneling contrasting light upholstery.

Heading outside, the sundeck is home to a Jacuzzi, sun loungers, and a bar perfect for cocktail hour. The crew can also set up an alfresco gym or an open-air cinema outside if you desire. As you might expect, Purpose also comes with a full arsenal of water toys and tenders, including a 32-foot Intrepid, wave runners, kayaks, paddleboards, and more. She also sports an inflatable pool, a 30-foot waterslide, and a beach club pontoon that will be particularly fun in the Med.

‘Below Deck’s 8 Worst Guests Of All-Time: From Jill Zarin To Delores The Midnight Swimmer

Where to stream:.

  • Captain Lee

‘Below Deck’ Alum Captain Lee Rosbach Doesn’t Hold Back About Why His Relationship With ‘Summer House’ Star Carl Radke Disintegrated: “It Didn’t Sit Well With Me”

Captain lee rosbach enters his true-crime era with oxygen’s ‘deadly waters’, ‘below deck’ alum captain lee rosbach teams up with oxygen for new true-crime series ‘deadly waters with captain lee’: watch the trailer , ‘below deck’ chief stew fraser olender has a “love interest” of his own this season: “i’ve always been a third wheel”.

Demanding charter guests are a given while working on a mega-yacht — and the various Below Deck crews over the years have certainly experienced their fair share of them. Whether it’s Jill Zarin requesting special ice for her Diet Cokes or Timothy Sykes retracting a portion of the crew’s tip right in front of Captain Lee Rosbach , the yachties are always in for some kind of treat — or headache.

In the 11 seasons of Below Deck, nine seasons of Below Deck Mediterranean , four seasons of Below Deck Sailing Yacht and two seasons of Below Deck Down Under , Captain Lee, Captain Sandy Yawn , Captain Kerry Titheradge , Captain Glenn Shephard , Captain Jason Chambers and their staffs have encountered plenty of high-maintenance guests aboard their respective vessels.

We somehow managed to pick a handful of guests who have infamously given the crew members a run for their money — but let it be known that it was no easy task to narrow down the abundant slate of finicky charters.

Aside from the ones we previously mentioned, we can’t forget the time lawyer Erica Rose and her husband caused quite the splash on Below Deck Sailing Yacht with their obnoxious and combative criticism of the chef’s food. Or when Below Deck chef Rachel Hargrove was forced to concoct blended versions of each meal (lobster included) to appease a recently injured woman who had her jaw wired shut.

In case you need more of a refresher, we gathered a roundup of eight of the most difficult charter guests in Below Deck history. Check them out below!

Jill Zarin ( Below Deck Season 11, Episode 9)

The Below Deck crew was just about ready to make Jill Zarin walk the plank when she appeared as a guest of the primary in a Season 11 episode. The Real Housewives of New York City alum had the interior team frazzled as she complained about everything from the food to the lack of toiletry baskets in each cabin. She even suggested that chief stew Fraser Olender purchase a button so she could call on him any time she had a request. And it bears repeating that she wasn’t even the primary guest!

Barbie Pascual described Zarin as a “freeloading guest who’s extremely demanding,” while Olender said, “Jill is crawling into my brain and eating away at my soul.”

Delores ( Below Deck Season 8, Episode 11)

Captain Lee was heated when guest Delores defied his commands and drunkenly jumped into the water in the middle of the night. The Below Deck icon told the primary guests that their “charter [was] over,” before forcing his crew to stand guard outside Delores’ room to make sure she didn’t come out again. “First thing in the morning, I’ll drag everybody’s ass back to the dock and kick their ass to the curb,” he said in his confessional. “We’re not taking those risks. Not on my boat.”

The next morning, Lee allowed the primaries to remain on the yacht as long as they sent Delores packing.

Erica Rose and Charles Sanders ( Below Deck Sailing Yacht Season 3, Episode 4)

American lawyer Erica Rose and her obnoxious husband Charles Sanders were one of the worst primaries the Below Deck franchise has encountered to date. During their stay on the sailing yacht, Sanders aggressively complained about his food, claiming McDonald’s could’ve served a better omelet than the high-end chef on board. He also bickered with their fellow guests, nearly causing a physical fight when he referred to his friend’s wife as a “bitch.” Plus, someone stained the $50,000 white couch with tan body makeup. And just when everyone thought things couldn’t get any worse, they left an insultingly low tip ($6,500, to be exact) for the entire crew to split.

Timothy Sykes ( Below Deck Season 2, Episode 10)

Even Captain Lee remembers Timothy Sykes as the worst charter guest he’s ever dealt with. Sykes, a 32-year-old entrepreneur who wears shirts with his own name on them, flew to the dock via helicopter with his 19-year-old girlfriend. After spending most of his trip complaining about the yacht’s internet issues and chef Ben Robinson’s food, he infamously deducted $5,000 off the tip, which was initially a whopping $22,000.

Chelsea ( Below Deck Season 9, Episode 9)

Chef Rachel Hargrove had her work cut out for her when one of the primary guests in Below Deck Season 9, Episode 9 came onboard with her jaw wired shut. Chelsea, who had recently suffered a bicycle accident, had multiple “meltdowns” when her liquified food did not come out at the same time as everyone else’s meals.

Mahisha Dellinger ( Below Deck Med Season 9, Episode 11)

Aesha Scott couldn’t have been happier that television host Mahisha Dellinger booked a short charter. Upon entering the mega-yacht, Dellinger forced the interior team to move the sky deck’s couches, which she called an “eye sore,” so she and her friends could take photos. Nothing was quite right for Dellinger, who later complained that the caviar tasted like a “washcloth.” Her friend Neysla Paltsev even attempted to jump on the bandwagon by criticizing the utensils they were provided at dinner. When Scott proved her wrong, Paltsev fired back that their “caviar service sucked.”

Athena Lucene ( Below Deck Med Season 6, Episode 7)

Athena Lucene certainly wasn’t an awful guest, but she sure did keep the crew on their toes. Hosting an entrepreneur retreat for her clients, Lucene expected immediate gratification at all times. When chef Matthew Shea held off a few extra minutes on dinner to wait for all the guests to sit down at the table, an impatient Lucene took it upon herself to go into the galley and ask what the holdup was. She then forced chief stew Katie Flood to move her seat to the head of the table as she felt “awkward” sitting on the side, before requesting that the already-behind chef whip up a last-minute salad for everyone. Lucene was also “disappointed” with the cakes Shea decorated, though, to be fair, they were underwhelming.

Brandy ( Below Deck Season 7, Episodes 3 & 4)

The Below Deck crew has dealt with tons of drunk charter guests. But Brandy, who appeared in the show’s seventh season, might have been the most terrifying. Having clearly gone a tad overboard on the champagne (no pun intended), an unconscious Brandy was swiftly hauled away from the beach picnic to see a medic on the yacht. However, her friends seemed unfazed as they didn’t let her episode ruin their time on the island.

Ranking Every ‘Below Deck’ Show From Most to Least Memorable: Mediterranean, Adventure and More

Ranking Below Deck s Spinoffs in OrderFrom Med to Adventure

Bravo’s Below Deck series has inspired several spinoffs — but not every one has left an impression.

Below Deck , which debuted on Bravo in 2013, introduced viewers to various crew members who reside and work on a superyacht during charter season. The original series quickly became a major success for the network, spawning spinoffs that include Below Deck Mediterranean, Below Deck Sailing Yacht, Below Deck Down Under and Below Deck Adventure .

The show has since become an example of Bravo’s rare all-year long programming with a Below Deck series airing new episodes at any given moment. While most of the cast has changed from season to season, viewers have gotten invested in some of the mainstays , which are usually the captains and the chief stews or bosuns.

However, not every show has stuck with fans the exact same way. Certain iterations didn’t last longer than a season while others have become more memorable than the OG Below Deck show.

Keep scrolling to see Us ‘ ranking of the Below Deck shows — in order from most to least memorable.

1) ‘Below Deck Mediterranean’

'Below Deck Med' Guest Apologizes After Being Reprimanded by Captain Sandy and Getting Fan Backlash

When some of Us weren’t looking, Below Deck Mediterranean surprisingly became the backbone of the franchise that earned it first place on this list . A large part of that is Captain Sandy Yawn , who for better or for worse has gotten viewers reinvigorated about Below Deck . It takes a special kind of captain to not always make decisions everyone likes but that keeps fans coming back for more.

Sandy’s priority is being a good captain but somewhere along the way she became Below Deck gold. Everything else is just icing on the cake when Sandy is at the center of every season in the Mediterranean.

2) ‘Below Deck’

The original show paved the way for every other iteration to find its place on Bravo. Without Below Deck — and Captain Lee Rosbach — fans wouldn’t know just how compelling drama on the high seas can actually be.

One reason why Below Deck isn’t at the very top is tied to the show’s decision to fix what wasn’t broken. Captain Lee was the face of the franchise — so it wasn’t easy to say goodbye when he was replaced following a decade on Below Deck . The switch came several seasons after chief stew Kate Chastain left and it was too much change at once for some of Us .

3) ‘below deck sailing yacht’.

Below Deck Sailing Yacht's Daisy Kelliher Hints at Falling Out With Colin MacRae Following Season 4 Hookup, Says He Has the 'Most' to Answer for at Reunion

Speaking of shows overshadowed by controversy, Below Deck Sailing Yacht had it all when it originally premiered on Bravo in 2020 . Paternity scandals, love triangles and Below Deck alums that overstayed their welcome by making the audience turn on them again.

Captain Glenn Shephard confidently steered Below Deck Sailing Yacht into a successful future but other factors ultimately got in the way.

First of all, Daisy Kelliher ‘s messy feelings for Colin Macrae and Gary King sounded like good reality TV on paper but it wasn’t as interesting on screen. The trio actually made it harder to come back around each week because it was exhausting to see them hash out their confusing issues.

Season 4 wrapped up with the promise of more episodes before Gary made headlines for his sexual misconduct scandal. He has maintained his innocence and no official statement has been given on the future of the show but Below Deck Sailing Yacht has yet to release any news about another season since the drama.

4) ‘Below Deck Down Under’

Laura Bileskalne Has 'No Regrets' About Being on 'Below Deck Down Under' After Consent Scandal

The spinoff set in Australia should have been a slam dunk with Bravo’s favorite hottie Captain Jason Chambers and fan-favorite chief stew Aesha Scott by his side. However, Below Deck Down Under initially struggled because it was premiering on Peacock instead of Bravo meaning viewers didn’t know to look for a new show.

Season 2 was what put Below Deck Down Under on the map but not for the reason anyone was hoping. A shocking consent scandal halfway through the season resulted in Luke Jones and Laura Bileskaline getting fired from the boat , which Below Deck Down Under was applauded for as new episodes continued to cover the aftermath.

Despite the fact that Jason and Aesha received praise for how they handled the situation , there has been no news about the show’s future. It is possible that the drama overshadowed the show itself — and not in a good way.

5) ‘below deck adventure’.

Ranking Below Deck s Spinoffs in OrderFrom Med to Adventure

The fourth spinoff was meant to be the most action-packed as guests signed up for thrill-seeking activities along the Norwegian Fjords. After premiering in November 2022, Below Deck Adventure failed to find an audience week to week and subsequently faded out of everyone’s mind.

Bravo never announced the show’s cancellation but it’s probably safe to assume that not many fans were asking for a status update. Instead, Captain Kerry Titheradge was moved to Below Deck and everyone forgot the first failed Below Deck spinoff series.

St David: Captain Lee replaced on season 11 of Below Deck

Season 11 of hit reality TV Show Below Deck will return to screens on 5 February 2024, this time with Captain Kerry Titheradge taking over from Captain Lee’s slot. According to TV network Bravo, the series will this time be based around Grenada, where the superyacht crew will again set sail on the 60-metre Benetti motor yacht St David with a new captain at the helm.

The show is based around an eight-week charter season and is one of the network’s most highly-rated series. It will feature some familiar faces – including chief stew Fraser Olender and Ben Willoughby – as well as welcoming a new chef, Anthony Iracane, a French restaurateur from Miami. Overseeing the deck crew will be Bosun Jared Woodin, while Marie “Sunny” Marquis and Kyle Stillie will join as deckhands. New stews Cat Bough, Xandi Olivier, and Barbie Pascual will complete the crew.

First used in season 10, St David was the largest yacht in the show’s history and is one of a few in the series to use the yacht’s real name. Take a look inside...

Delivered in 2008 by Italian shipyard Benetti, St David is a full-custom yacht with both interior and exterior design from British studio Winch Design . She went on to become a finalist at the 2009 World Superyacht Awards , where the judges were impressed by her sleek, supercar-inspired profile.

At the time of her launch, she was the sixth-largest yacht in the Benetti fleet. She was last sold in 2018, with an asking price was €22,500,000. Morley Yachts is currently her Central Agency for charter, and she is currently on the charter market from €325,000 per week, plus expenses during low season and €345,000 per week plus expenses during high season.

The yacht is a historically popular charter yacht that has made appearances at a number of high-profile events, including the Cannes Film Festival. She has also ventured to off-the-beaten-path locations including the Seychelles, Red Sea and Abu Dhabi.

A classic Baroque theme characterises St David ’s social spaces, with intricate marquetry made from satin woods and a skylounge area that draws inspiration from a ‘Tuscan palazzo’, with its turquoise, white and gold mosaic floor.

One of the most notable features is an elegant spiral staircase that leads through all three decks and is lit by a skylight in the spa pool of the sun deck. The sun deck itself is well-appointed, with sunloungers and a sunpad spread where guests can stretch out and relax. There is a shaded portion of deck which benefits from a casual dining arrangement and a spa pool bordered by more sunpads, which can also be fitted with an al fresco cinema screen.

Accommodation is for 12 guests in six cabins, with a split-level master suite that lets in plenty of light.

In terms of toys, St David has expansive water toy facilities and storage, including scuba dive gear. She most recently refitted in 2021 and works included new interior and exterior fabrics, audiovisual upgrades and a new skylounge cinema. The watersports equipment has also seen a recent upgrade, with a new 7.2m tender, new Waverunners, and an electric foiling surfboard.

The news that Below Deck Season 11 will premiere on 5 February 2024 was announced during BravoCon in Las Vegas.

Here's what we know about why a luxury sailing boat sank off the coast of Sicily

CNNWire logo

Emergency workers in southern Italy are still hunting for six people missing after a tornado sank a luxury yacht early Monday - prompting an air and naval operation off the coast of Sicily.

Fifteen people were rescued from the wreckage, according to Italy's Coast Guard. One body was recovered on Monday and four more on Wednesday, after divers struggled to reach deep inside the yacht around 50 meters underwater (approximately 150 feet).

Two Americans and four Britons were among the six initially reported missing - including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, Jonathan Bloomer, chairman of Morgan Stanley International, and Chris Morvillo, a prominent lawyer.

Here's what we know.

What happened?

A small waterspout - a type of tornado - spun over the Mediterranean island early Monday, likely capsizing the sailing boat amid lashings of rain and strong thunderstorms.

The British-flagged yacht, called the "Bayesian," was anchored about a half a mile from the port of Porticello, on Sicily's northern coast. The vessel sank after its mast broke in half in the storm, Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily's Civil Protection, told CNN on Tuesday.

Eyewitnesses described furious gales and hurricane-like winds that left an avalanche of debris near the pier.

More than a dozen survivors were spotted in the area hanging onto life rafts, according to the captain of a nearby boat, who steadied his ship to avoid colliding with the Bayesian.

"We got this strong hurricane gust and we had to start the engine to keep the ship in an angled position," Karsten Bower told reporters in Palermo on Monday. "After the storm was over, we noticed that the ship behind us was gone."

Bower and his crew rescued four injured people, he said, before calling Italy's Coast Guard - who later rescued the remaining survivors.

One of those rescued - a child - was airlifted to the children's hospital in Palermo. Eight people were hospitalized in total, according to the mayor's office.

The girl's mother, Charlotte, described how she battled to hold onto Sofia, her 1-year-old daughter, as reported by Italian news agency ANSA.

"In two seconds I lost the baby in the sea, then I immediately hugged her again amidst the fury of the waves. I held her tightly, close to me, while the sea was stormy," she told journalists. "Many were screaming."

The mother and daughter were later reunited with the father, James, according to a doctor at the local children's hospital in Palermo.

"The survivors are very tired and are constantly asking about the missing people," the doctor, Domenico Cipolla, said Monday. "They are talking and crying all the time because they have realized that there is little hope of finding their friends alive."

Italy's fire brigade dispatched helicopters to aid in the search, officials said Monday. After an unsuccessful attempt on Monday, the brigade sent divers to try and enter the sunken ship Tuesday, recommencing the operation on Wednesday.

The depth of the wreck means divers can only work there for limited periods of time, according to Marco Tilotta, an inspector for the diving unit of Palermo's local fire brigade. The Italian fire brigade said Monday its divers had reached the yacht's hull 49 meters (160 feet) below sea level.

The United Kingdom's Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) said it has deployed a team of four inspectors to Palermo which is conducting a preliminary assessment of the scene.

Who was on board?

Twenty-two people were on board the Bayesian, which was flying under a British flag and had mostly British passengers and crew, in addition to two Anglo-French, one Irish and one Sri Lankan person, a spokesperson for Italy's Coast Guard told CNN.

A troupe of high-profile guests are among those missing, including Lynch, the 59-year-old British tech investor who fought a fraud case earlier this year in the United States - which spiraled from the disastrous $11 billion sale of his company to tech firm Hewlett-Packard (HP) in 2011.

His 18-year-old daughter was also named missing. Lynch's wife, Angela Bacares, survived the accident. Bacares told Italian daily newspaper La Repubblica that she woke up at 4 a.m. local time, as the boat tilted. She and her husband were not initially concerned, she said, but became worried when the windows of the yacht shattered and chaos erupted.

RELATED: Divers find 4 bodies during search of superyacht wreckage after it sank off Sicily, 2 still missing

Bacares spoke to the newspaper while sitting in a wheelchair, at a hospital in the Sicilian town of Termini Imerese. She had abrasions on her feet and bandages on other parts of her body, it reported.

Bloomer, the finance tycoon, and Morvillo, a prominent lawyer - and both their wives - are also among the missing, according to Salvatore Cocina, head of Sicily's Civil Protection.

Morvillo, an American partner at Clifford Chance, was involved in successfully defeating the US fraud case against Lynch in June. Another employee of the firm, Ayla Ronald, and her partner, survived the incident, according to a spokesperson for Clifford Chance.

The body that was recovered from the vessel on Monday was identified as the onboard chef Ricardo Thomas, an Antiguan citizen, Reuters reported.

What do we know about the boat?

Built in 2008, the 56-meter (184-foot) yacht was manufactured by Italian company Perini Navi, Reuters reported. According to the Associated Press, the boat has been available for charter for $215,000 (195,000) per week.

Lynch's wife is linked to the yacht. The Bayesian is held by the company Revtom Limited, according to records from the maritime information service Equasis. The company's latest annual return from April lists Bacares as the proprietor.

"Bayesian," the name given to the vessel, is linked to the statistical theory on which Lynch built his fortune, according to Reuters.

The yacht's mast stood 72.27 meters (237 feet) high above the designated water line, just short of the world's tallest mast which is 75.2 meters, according to Guinness World Records. It was the tallest aluminium mast in the world, the Perini Navi website said.

Perini Navi is known for making "good quality boats," according to Caroline White, deputy editor of BOAT International, a media group serving the superyacht industry.

White told CNN that if the Bayesian dismasted, "it should theoretically become more stable." "But it might be a different story if you are in the middle of a violent storm with incredibly strong winds pinning you to the water," she added.

Dangerous weather conditions

Strong storms across Sicily brought torrential rainfall late Sunday. Initial reports suggest a small waterspout, which developed over the area Monday morning, could have been behind the yacht's sinking.

Waterspouts - one of several types of tornadoes - are spinning columns of air that form over water, or move from land out to water. They are often accompanied by high winds, high seas, hail and dangerous lightning. While they are most common over tropical oceans, they can form almost anywhere.

Matthew Schanck, chair of the Maritime Search and Rescue Council, told CNN that while waterspouts in Sicily are rare, "there is a risk" they can happen - just not every day.

Waterspouts rely on warm waters to gain energy and the Mediterranean Sea has been very hot, reaching a record daily median of 28.9 degrees Celsius (84 Fahrenheit) last week, according to preliminary data from researchers at the Institute of Marine Sciences in Spain.

Local temperatures have been even higher, with waters around Sicily reaching almost 30 degrees Celsius (86 Fahrenheit), almost 3 degrees more than normal, Italian climatologist Luca Mercalli told CNN.

"Warmer oceans have more energy and more humidity to transfer to the atmosphere, the most important fuels for storms," he said.

What happened to Mustique on ‘Below Deck Med’ Season 9? Luxurious yacht faces unexpected setback

ATHENS, GREECE: Throughout the various seasons of 'Below Deck Mediterranean', we've witnessed the crew navigate their way out of numerous challenging and precarious situations during charters. In the most recent episode of 'Below Deck Mediterranean' Season 9 which aired on August 19, Captain Sandy Yawn and the crew aboard the Mustique encountered a significant obstacle that the captain was deeply concerned might pose a severe risk to the vessel. The opulent yacht revealed a substantial leak after being battered by a disastrous storm that struck Greece. "We have another leak in the forward cabin. This is not good," Sandy said from aboard the yacht during the catastrophic storm.

With approximately two-and-a-half hours remaining until the next charter, Sandy contacted bosun Iain Maclean to look into the matter. "How is it getting in the bosun's locker?" she inquired over the radio. "It's been closed all morning," Iain replied, then looked in the locker to see if he missed anything. Upon conducting a more thorough examination, Iain and Sandy noticed that although the locker door was shut, a significant amount of water was still leaking inside. "When you take on this much water, it could sink the boat. We can't go to sea if we're taking on water; that will end our season," Sandy shared in a private confessional. Fortunately, the captain, along with the crew, was able to manage the issue effectively before the charter commenced.

'Below Deck Med' Season 9: Sandy Yawn finds another leak on Mustique

At the conclusion of the episode, 'Below Deck Med' captain Sandy Yawn discovered yet another leak on the yacht Mustique. This new leak was attributed to the severe and hazardous conditions brought on by a hurricane.

"I think we're leaking again. Oh, this is bad," Sandy said in a private confessional. Then she asked Iain to check the starboard cabin.

Iain looked into the cabin and said, “Are you f**king kidding me?”

Sandy asked over the radio,"Iain is it getting wet in that cabin? Iain is it leaking?" to which he replied, "Yeah. It's still f***ing dripping."

'Below Deck Med' Season 9: Captain Sandy Yawn dishes on Mustique's anchor issues

The 'Below Deck Mediterranean' crew has encountered numerous challenges this season, with a leak on the Mustique being just one of the many issues they've had to deal with. During Season 9, Episode 6, which was broadcast on July 8, the crew members of the yacht faced a significantly costly issue on the final day of their charter.

While the guests were savoring a sumptuous breakfast prepared by the skilled chef Johnathan Shillingford, the deckhands, Nathan Gallagher and Joe Bradley , busied themselves with the task of hauling up the anchor in preparation for their return voyage to port. As they set about their work, they encountered an unexpected problem: the windlass, the mechanical apparatus responsible for raising and lowering the anchor, was out of order.

"A windlass is like a spool of thread. It has a clutch so you free it from the teeth that haul the anchor. This starboard windlass ... it isn't grabbing, so we're having a difficult time trying to haul the anchor," Sandy said.

Following the arrival of the second engineer, Luka, on the bridge to inform Sandy that the windlass was probably "disengaged from the shaft," the crew devised a strategy to address the issue. They planned to utilize the alternative windlass located on the port side of the vessel, employing a line to assist in raising the chain and anchor.

"To use a port windlass you have to release the clutch, pop the drum up, wrap the line around it, and then haul in a little bit at a time. Worst case scenario, if I can't get the anchor off the bottom, I have to leave the anchor," Sandy added.

20 Best Reality TV Shows Right Now

I’m convinced below deck mediterranean’s johnathan shillingford is a producer plant, below deck mediterranean season 9 shows captain sandy’s selfish side (she’s inconsiderate).

  • Luka quickly moved on from Natalya to Jessika on Below Deck Med S8.
  • Jessika developed stronger feelings, but Luka only saw it as a hook-up.
  • Both Luka and Jessika are in separate relationships post-show, not friends.

Luka Brunton and Jessika Asai didn't start hooking up on Below Deck Mediterranean season 8 right away, but the two did connect on the boat, so are they still together? Before Luka began flirting with Jessika, he was interested in fellow stew Natalya Scudder . The pair often flirted while onboard together, but Natalya held back due to her open relationship. Even though it was open, Natalya always felt bad about her flirtations with Luka. She finally decided to cut it off completely with Luka, so he moved on to Jessika. Clearly, Luka moves on very quickly.

Even though Luka showed interest in Natalya first, it seemed like Luka was more interested in Jessika. The pair were attached at the hip during crew nights out and would openly flirt in front of each other when they were around their other crew members. However, Luka is a playboy through and through and never saw Jessika (or even Natalya) as a long-term situation. Luka is the type of guy who is used to getting a lot of attention from women and clearly uses that to his advantage. With all this in mind, did Luka and Jessika last after Below Deck Med season 8 ?

Reality TV is more popular than ever. With so many to choose from, here are some of the best reality TV shows to stream or watch right now.

Luka & Jessika's Journey On Below Deck Mediterranean

They were hooking-up.

Luka and Jessika's love story began after Natalya ended her flirtation with Luka. He immediately pivoted towards Jessika, and the two continued their boatmance until the end of the season. Luka was looking more for a hook-up the entire time , but it was evident Jessika started to have stronger feelings than he did. The third stew was trying to be laid back about the whole situation, but things took a turn for the worse when he found out he was texting another woman; that woman was Katie Flood, the Chief Stew during Below Deck Med season 6.

Jessika felt deeply disrespected by him and even gave him the cold shoulder a few times. Despite this negative dip in their romance, Luka and Jessika continued to hook up ; the pair even made plans to travel around Europe together once the season was over. However, during the final episode, Luka found out Natalya was going to be at the club the crew would be at and decided he would pursue her . This was the nail in the coffin to the end of Jessika and Luka's boatmance.

Luka & Jessika Ended Things Before They Left The Boat

They're both in different relationships.

Since Luka was officially over Jessika at this point, the two decided to end their boatmance once they left the yacht. It was for the best, as Luka wasn't as into Jessika as she was into him. However, the end of their relationship worked out in both their favor. Luka is currently in a relationship with his partner Lorena, who he was in a relationship before the show. The pair have been in an on-and-off relationship for several years. Luka seems very happy post-show and will likely not return to a future Below Deck season now that he is in a committed relationship.

As for Jessika, she has also moved on since her break-up with Luka. She is currently in a relationship with a man named Mark Reeves . He is often featured on Jessika's Instagram page, and the two recently spent time together in Hawaii on a yacht. It seems both Luka and Jessika are doing just fine without each other.

Did Luka & Jessika At Least Remain Friends?

They don't follow each other on social media.

Luka and Jessika did not remain friends after filming Below Deck Med season 8. While neither has confirmed that, t hey don't follow each other on social media . This is usually a huge indicator of whether people have stayed in touch, and clearly, Luka and Jessika have no desire to be in each other lives. They ended their romance quite abruptly and without any real closure. The reason behind the end of their boatmance had nothing to do with their yachting careers breaking them apart; Luka and Jessika simply weren't committed enough to each other.

They could've remained friends if Luka had been more respectful toward Jessika. Luka came off as a villain after leaving her when he felt like he had a better chance with someone else. Jessika clearly dodged a bullet and is much happier with where she is in life now. Nonetheless, there is always a possibility that Luka and Jessika could make amends and at least be friends .

Below Deck Mediterranean airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.

EXCLUSIVE: First Look Inside Superyacht VALOUR - Below Deck Season 4 Yacht

By Oliver Pearson   1 April 2016

In a recent exclusive, we revealed that the name of the Below Deck Season 4 yacht will be superyacht VALOUR. Now, in a further exclusive, we can unveil her real name, and show some previously unseen photographs of her interior.

Following Bravo TV's tradition of naming yachts after 'Homeric' Greek mythology, the forthcoming Below Deck Season 4 superyacht VALOUR is in actual fact the 47m/154ft motor yacht BG .

A sophisticated and modern motor yacht  built by the prestigious Dutch shipyard  Feadship , she possess a quality which is the yachting equivalent of a Rolls Royce. Bringing together the very best in luxury amenities in a highly styled environment, her interior decor is entirely contemporary and her outdoor areas are designed to keep up with the very best superyachts.

Her refit in 2015 was coordinated by Dee Dee Taylor Eustace, the celebrity architect and interior designer who established Taylor Hannah Architect Inc. With considerable experience in high-end residential interior design, and an extensive knowledge of the marine lifestyle, her signature use of colour and space makes BG every inch the ideal superyacht.

With this in mind, it’s no surprise that the yacht was chosen for Below Deck season 4. Indeed, it offers a suitably glamorous setting for the latest crew to treat their guests in, and showcases perfectly why private yacht charter is the most exclusive and desirable vacation choice. As we revealed in an earlier article, Below Deck Season 4 was shot around the stunning waters of the British Virgin Isles .

Like all of the other yachts featured on Below Deck, the yacht in season 4 is available to rent for private luxury yacht charter vacations

Unlike the clasically themed interior of the 46m/150ft motor yacht Ionian Princess  featured in the Below Deck spin-off  Below Deck Mediterranean , motor yacht BG exudes a modern charm, and employs an incredibly bright colour scheme to complement the soft and comfortable furnishings.

Working to create a ‘Hampton Beach House’ theme, the work Dee Dee Eustace carried out in the interior utilises designer fabrics and timeless furnishings to complement the expertly refined layout.

Indeed, her long main salon features an impressive symmetrical arrangement which nicely emphasises the space inside, and will certainly provide the perfect space for the amplified drama viewers have come to expect from the franchise.

Adjacent to the main salon, the dining room features an appropriately styled patina and rosewood table to ensure all guests enjoy their meals, and features a custom built wine wardrobe capable of storing up to 120 bottles of wine.

The master suite on the main deck has received the same refreshing treatment, with a comfortable seating area and a hugely voluminous en-suite feeling more like a penthouse apartment than simply a bedroom.

Each of her 5 other guest suites are similarly well designed and provide exceptional accommodation for up to 12 guests- a perfect arrangement for both families and small parties.

Inflatable slide attached to superyacht BG

The exterior spaces of luxury yacht BG are just as impressive- here, guests are able to take advantage of expansive sunpads and a sizeable table for some outstanding al fresco dining.

Sure to keep the cast of Below Deck Season 4 ultra-busy is the Jacuzzi located on the upper deck. Perfectly situated for taking in oceanic views whilst enjoying a soak, the guests will certainly be after a crew capable of bringing out drinks and fresh towels at a moment’s notice.

Furthermore, the spacious dining and entertaining area on the bridge deck aft boasts a large projector screen for guests to enjoy a movie after dark.

Steps on both the port and starboard side of the aft deck provide convenient access to the full beam swim platform which is nicely extended for greater access to the water. From this platform guests are able to effortlessly board tenders, begin playing with her catalogue of towable water toys, or simply dive into the ocean to cool off.

At the Palm Beach Boat Show this year, YachtCharterFleet boarded superyacht BG following the filming of Below Deck Season 4, and will be releasing a full review shortly.
