Hunter Boats
The first Hunter boat was built in 1969 and for over half a century the name has been associated with some of Britain's most succesful production cruising and racing boat designs.
The company was founded in 1968 and the first design produced by the new company was the Squib, an open keelboat designed by Oliver Lee in 1967.
David Thomas Joins
In 1975 David Thomas became the main designer producing the iconic Hunter Sonata and Impala 28 Cruiser Racers which to this day continue to offer competive One-Design racing and have their own National Championships.
Racing Yachts
Throughout the 70s the company produced many racing yachts including the Formula 28 and HB 31 designs by Steven Jones. The HB 31 was the first production boat to use kevlar laminates in its hull construction.
Move to Cruisers
By the 80s the company started building cruising yachts with the Hunter Horizon 26 and 32 Models winning the Best Production Boat of the Year and Best Production Cruiser of the Year awards respectively.
Return to Racing
1995 saw the company build the Hunter 707, a highly succesful sportsboat which went on to win the Yacht of the Year awards the following year.
The present
Hunter Boats was bought out in 2003 by the Select Yachts Group and in 2009 Lauren Marine of Southampton purchased the rights, moulds and tooling for the Hunter range of boats including five designs.

Hunter is a popular American shipyard, whose main activity is the creation of luxury cruise sailing yachts .
Created 40 years ago in the state of Florida in the USA, this brand is still on the wave of success, at least within the North American continent. Having chosen a strategy for creating comfortable sailing yachts at affordable prices and using innovative ideas and technologies, Hunter shipyard quickly became one of the best American manufacturers of luxury sailing yachts and has been confidently holding its leading position for decades.
Among competitors, Hunter yachts have always been distinguished by their original design, including including invariable stainless arches above the cockpit, a characteristic “winged” keel and numerous skylights on the deck. Designer Henderson, who was recently associated with this American shipyard, had a special influence on the specific design and development of the hulls of new models.
It was his influence that was noticeably reflected in the new Hunter models, which are increasingly acquiring the features of racing ships. The hulls of boats of this brand were significantly modernized and technical specifications improved, which allows not only comfortable traveling on Hunter yachts in the open sea, but also take part in international regattas on equal terms with worthy competitors. One of the shipyard’s most popular sports models is Hunter 41, which repeatedly proves its superiority in various regattas and at the same time is ideally suited for a comfortable stay. Henderson's innovative design only increased the number of fans of the sailing boats of this shipyard.
The interiors of yachts of this American brand are distinguished by the spaciousness typical of American manufacturers and the excellent illumination provided by numerous windows and hatches. Wood trim brings a special home comfort to the cabin design.
Innovations in design and constructions, continuous improvement and maximum reliability made Hunter yachts quite popular in the world of sailing, and so much so that even in Europe (in England) its branch appeared, where all the same technologies are used in production as on the main shipyards in Florida. The creators of comfortable and practical Hunter sailing yachts have successfully borrowed many technological aspects from the automotive industry, and it is not for nothing that boats of this brand are often called “cadillacs in the open sea”. Such technologies make it easy to release up to 50 models every month on water. The decrease in manual work in the decoration of yachts allowed them to reduce prices. Computer technology is used both in the design of models, and to create directly boat parts. Although it can be said that Hunter yacht production is put on a conveyor belt, their quality and reliability always remain in the first place.
Regardless of whether you are looking for a racing yacht, dreaming of a small boat for a comfortable stay or aim to purchase a comfortable sailing boat for family trips, a wide selection of Hunter shipyard model lines allows you to find an option for every occasion and taste.

I have a Hunter 170. The rudder bracket failed and came loose from the attachment structure. What are your recommendations for repairing this significant problem? How best to reinforce the assembly and fastening to the hull structure? Thanks for your advice.

Warren Luhrs, founder of Hunter Marine began in the boat building business, first with his father and brother at Henry Luhrs Sea Skiffs and then Silverton Sea Skiffs. Both companies were quite successful. Being an avid sailor, Luhrs had the idea of applying production line efficiencies to the sailing industry. In 1973, the first Hunter sailboat was launched. This was the HUNTER 25, designed by John Cherubini. This boat, as well as may models that followed were extremely well received. Hunter Marine soon became a major force in the sailboat industry. Luhrs became involved in single handed ocean racing and set many records aboard Thursday’s Child and Hunter’s Child. These floating test beds became the basis for many of the innovations that have appeared in Hunter production models. These include B & R rigs, arches and water-ballast. Hunter was sold in August 2012 to Mr. David E. Marlow, builder of Marlow Yachts.

History of Bryansk Oblast
Various Slavic tribes (Northerners, Vyatichi) inhabited the territory of the present Bryansk region since ancient times. In the 9th century, the local Slavic tribes, as well as other neighboring tribes, were dependent on the Khazar Khanate. In the 10th century, they gradually came under the authority of Kiev.
In 1246, after the Mongol invasion, Bryansk Principality was founded. In 1500, Bryansk was captured by troops of Ivan III and the region became part of the Moscow State, its south-western outpost in the fight against Lithuania, Poland and the Crimean Khanate.
In the 18th-19th centuries, the economic development of the region began, the first factories were opened. In August-October 1941, the region was occupied by German troops. Soon it became known for its fierce resistance to the invaders. There were about 60 thousand partisans in the Bryansk forests. July 5, 1944, Bryansk oblast was formed.

LENGTH: Traditionally, LOA (length over all) equaled hull length. Today, many builders use LOA to include rail overhangs, bowsprits, etc. and LOD (length on deck) for hull length. That said, LOA may still mean LOD if the builder is being honest and using accepted industry standards developed by groups like the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council).
